Your name is William. You're a gamer, a gambler, and you like to tinker. You also have the mystically-gifted powers of danger sense and heightened intuition and awareness. These powers have been causing you considerable consternation - the danger sense triggered earlier before you were hit in the head by a hacky sack, as a serviceable example. To get past this, you enrolled at Titans Academy, under the auspices of Professor Peter Parker.
Your first day has been going... not badly at all. You've taken your new roommates - Vic, Gar, Jinx, Jubilee, and Starfire - out to dinner at a Mexican place, when your powers started going haywire. A moment later, an eight-foot tall giant of a man in a trenchcoat walked in.
Your reaction: Do nothing. You sit. You stare. You wait.
A few terse seconds pass. Finally, a waitress comes out of the back.
"Pickup?" He nods. "Name?"
"Marco."
"Three Hijo de Putas?"
"Yes." She hefts a paper shopping bag that looks spectacularly full.
"Sixty-two ninety, please." He slides a fifty and a twenty across the counter, takes his bag of food...
And fixes you with a glare. He says nothing. And then he slips out the way he came.
"...goddamn." Vic muttered. "That was some creepy shit - do you know that guy?"
"No..." You finally let a breath out. "No, and I'd be a lot less freaked out if I did." At least you seem to be safe for the moment - but something about that guy made the skin on the back of your neck crawl. And it wasn't just his size.
The question is, now what do you do?

"Are not all air raid sirens the sirens of danger?" Starfire gives you a look that says it should be fairly obvious. You ignore that.
"Yeah, he looked pretty nasty, too. Just as well he didn't decide to start anything." Vic rubs his fingers together idly.
You tuck into your burrito - the spicy-savory goodness helps to soothe your nerves. A moment passes, and the realization hits.
"You have a digital eye."
"Uh, yeah?"
"Can you - are you taking a video capture?"
"...ohhhh. I see where you're going." He smirks. "Yeah, I have a constant three-hour loop going. Let me save it, and we can run it by the Prof's." You feel a lot better all of a sudden.
The rest of the meal is kind of quiet; when you get ready to go, the fog has started to roll in off of the bay, shrouding the streets. It's a little eerie, but kind of beautiful as well - and the lack of visual input means there's less to trigger your intuition. So by the time you get inside, you're feeling far more relaxed.
Vic says he'll shoot an e-mail to the professors, let them see the video. It feels like enough for tonight; you're almost ready to crash anyway.
You have about an hour before you would normally fall asleep; what would you like to do?

You consider searching for Power Girl porn - until you remember that the Academy is an internal network. The professors can read your search history. Nope. Nope, not doing that. Maybe later. With your tablet. On a public wi-fi network.
Instead, you end up looking up details on any Stark and Wayne Enterprises connections.
=
The two companies have little in common aside from certain medical technologies - prosthesis, mostly. Wayne Enterprises backed out of military tech in the 80s to refocus on medical equipment and civil engineering. The decision has not treated them as well as one would think, but it's allowed them to avoid scandals that have plagued Stark for decades. Meanwhile, Stark works with everything from power solutions to military hardsuits to consumer electronics. They have, however, coordinated on three notable items. The Delphi exoskeleton, designed to give enhanced mobility to paraplegics. The Wayne-Stark Sol chip, which remains the most popular cell phone processor in the world, and by far the most efficient. And the Model 117 arc reactor engine, which is making inroads as an alternative to the hydrogen fuel cell.
The company execs have a history of teeth-clenched cooperation - word is that Tony and Bruce rub each other the wrong way, although it's hard to say how. Both men are tight lipped about it - Tony actually insists that he likes Bruce just fine. Really. Totally.

"Outtamyway!"
"Do you-"
"Yeah, but I'm gonna be late!" Thankfully, Vic is making waffles for everyone - evidently he has a little streak of a chef inside him? He tosses you one, and you start to chow down as you run, the floppy waffle dangling from your mouth.
It feels ridiculous, but it tastes so good that you hardly care.
You end up in the gym, mouth full of waffle and stomach far happier, alongside a handful of others. Virgil is there, as is Starfire, the levitating girl from yesterday, and two others - an orange haired behemoth, and an athletic-looking girl with a black pixie cut. And...
The legend herself. One of the last Kryptonians. The puncher of faces. Power Girl.
Who, for the record, is perfectly recognizable even in standard gym wear.
"Alright, line up. You guys were slacking off yesterday - I want a good, solid workout from you. Kori, let's try for 800 reps at your usual weight."
"Right!" She charges over to a weight machine that looks more like an industrial metal press.
"...Virgil, we're working on your endurance today. Ten laps with the 10-kilo leg weights." He deflates a little, but nods. "Raven - you're with Virgil. No cheating with your levitation." A scowl, but she didn't resist. "Mammoth?" He lets out a sharp grunt. "Speed bag, thirty minutes. WITHOUT destroying it." He squints - and then nods twice. Challenge accepted, it seems. "May, let's try to get you up to Class-10 today. Start your warmups."
"Yes'm!" She drops to a set of pushups - wait, May? As in May Parker? You shouldn't be surprised. Of course Spidey would want his daughter to go to the school he's teaching at.
"Aaaand..."
"William."
"Will. "
"It's your first day."
"...yyyyes?"
"You know what that means."
"No?"
"It means I get to put you through the WRINGER."

>>
>>34876865
A Stand, from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, is essentially a guardian spirit, a reflection of your soul. Only you and others who possess Stands can perceive them (though in a supers setting, it would be more convenient for those with mystical and psychic vision to perceive it). Stands tend to have very unique powers, and no two Stands are the same.

>>
>>34877057
The World had a bunch of other Joestar powers in its repetoire. You can even explicitly see DIO using Hermit Purple's power at one point.
>>
>>34877039
Well, we're also very good at extrapolating a lot of information from only a few clues.
So we got that going for us.

Also, pretty sure that shooting lightning is NOT a hallmark trait of a poltergeist.
>>
>>34877063
>You've spent the last few years - everything since that incident with the fortuneteller at the stupid parking lot carnival - knowing things that you really shouldn't know. You can extrapolate ridiculous amounts of information from small clues, and you have a sixth sense that alerts you when you're in danger. Which is all kind of cool, but at times your enhanced awareness feels like a bunch of voices all shouting in your head at once.

Huh would you look at that. Shit I wonder what demon or spirit he J-Jammed into our soul
>>
>>34876792
I'd rather that not be the case. Nothing against Jojo I would just prefer not to have a stand.

>>34877601
Lets say we do both?

we may not have "spider sense" but we have precognition.

We got alarms from that big guy (was it mammoth?) and nothing even happened at the time.

I'm thinking we have a more long.term. kind of precognition, so lets say we're about to do something that would get us in major trouble down the road if one or the other girl found out. like maybe for example, one of them leaves a love letter somewhere the other might easily find it, we should be aware of it before it happens and be able to intercept it.

If we were to go somewhere the other girl would run into us we might get red flags before we agree to go there.

I'm thinking our precognition is more useful for a quest setting since we can plan around it.

"That's it for today, kids. Get yourselves showered up and get ready for your next class." Power Girl calls out, and you nearly collapse, panting for breath. Laps with hurdles while carrying weights in hand, free weights, curls, squat-walks - all without time to so much as breathe. Your legs are burning, your lungs are on fire, and she's offering you a hand wait why is she- because you actually collapsed. Crap. "Not bad for your first day."
"...thanks?"
"You're welcome." Her smile quirks to one side, as if to say 'yes I really did mean that'. "You won't get that treatment often, but we have to make sure you're ready for any field assignments."
"And... you think I am?"
"Well, no." Blunt as a baseball bat. "But you wouldn't slow us down as much as some." A hearty pat on the back, and she all but shoves you towards the locker room. "Now shower up. You smell like armpit."
==
You are still completely exhausted when you slog into Science class, nearly on autopilot. Thankfully, they seem to be on a topic that you've had before - discussing the various theories surrounding Kirby radiation. It's all theoretical stuff, so today's really a softball.
You manage to get some notes together, when you notice a post-it note levitating itself onto your desk.
>If you need notes from previous lectures, you can borrow mine. -R
R - you glance around. Raven? Yeah, the gray-skinned girl who isn't Jinx. She's sitting right next to you.
Well, it's only polite to reply, right?

She seems impassive as she reads the note - quickly jotting down some notes on the nature of the so-called 'Kirby dots' - before writing her reply in the same neat, squared text.
>Law and ethics is pretty serious, but the Professor is a fan of interaction in the classroom. More discussion than lecture. History is weird.
No further explanation. Then again, there isn't a lot of room on the post-it notes she's using.

You consider asking about your rather unpredictable roommate, but take a pass on it for now, just nodding and mouthing 'thanks' again. You're almost sure she smiles a little. Tiny bit. Almost invisibly. Either that or it's just the angle she turns her head to.
==
Lunch comes quickly. Your body is still aching, and you need some protein, stat. It looks like some of the students are drifting off towards the city, while the rest are heading for the lounge. At the moment you don't see any of your teammates, and you're not sure where Raven got to... so where to?

The lounge it is. You can't eat out every day, after all.

You'd guess around half the students are scattered around the room. Virgil and Kitty are on the couch already with May. Most of your team - sans Vic and Jubilee - are at the counter, and an assembly line of sandwiches is flying out of the fridge, thanks to the youngest girl you've seen at the Academy so far - she can't be more than 13. A stubby little brunette.
As you get closer to the counter, she points at you. "Sammich?"
"Sandwich...?"
"SAMMICH!" She slaps one together in about twice the time it takes her to say the word, and passes it to you. A little too much mustard, judging by the look of it, but it beats fending for yourself.
>A - Pull up a seat with your team.

"Thanks. It looks great."
"Well, yeah. Kinda hard to mess up lunch meat and bread." She gives you a look like you're crazy; given that she's wearing a novelty fish beanie, that kind of says something. You grab the barstool next to Starfire and dig in.
"Hey, Will." Jinx leans in with a faux-conspiratorial whisper. "The chief wants to see you when you're done eating. I think they've got some news on Mister Big, Angry and Freakout-triggering."
"It wasn't a freakout."
"It was totally a freakout and your denial only strengthens my argument."
"Children, children!" Gar pipes up, waving his half-eaten hoagie at you - a hoagie you notice is nothing but cheese and veggies. "We can argue over this all day or we can agree that last night was just freaking weird. For the sake of the sandwiches, I suggest we go for the second option."
"For the sake of the sandwiches." Starfire echoes in a solemn voice, before taking a chomp out of hers,

"Nice hat."
"Thankya." She seems rather satisfied, as much by the giant hero she's about to inhale as anything else.
"So - how bad do you think it is?" Gar grimaces a little.
"Professor Parker sounded kind of worried, but he isn't calling us all in right away.. So on a scale of one to Darkseid rising again, I'd say... like... four?"
"Where would a Skrull invasion rank on that scale?"
"I guess... six?" Craaaap.

"Cain Marko. The Juggernaut." That sounds more like a five on Gar's arbitrary disaster scale. Maybe five and a half. "Former professional criminal, current soldier of fortune."
"What's the difference?" Vic asks; this earns him a less than amused stare from Jinx.
"Intent. As of late he's been trying to stay out of jail, at the least... I don't have the details, so don't ask why." Spider-Man looks a little ruffled. And he's actually in his outfit this time - the last one he wore, the one with the open-mouthed mask.
"So you think there's going to be trouble?" You mumble.
"No, I just put the suit on because MJ likes it."
"...I... don't need to know about your love life-"
"There's going to be trouble, but he might not be the one starting it. Until we're sure that he's out of town, I'm stepping up patrol duty." They have patrol duty here? "One team will go out at a time twice daily, and do a surface scan of the city. If you see anything suspicious, radio back. If you see Marko, then don't engage him. Just keep an eye on him from a distance. The more subtle you can be, the better."
"And if he starts trouble?"
"Then we have all the not-subtle we need in the gym." He smirks. "You're on patrol tonight."
"Dude!" Gar bursts out. "We were the ones that found him!"
"We assigned slots randomly. Relax - you should be in by ten." Jump City at night. This will be interesting. Especially because you can't fly. Hell, you can't even drive a stick, and your legs still hurt from this morning!

"Hey, Jinx?"
"Yeah, Willy?" You try not to flinch at that. You've always hated it when people called you that.
"Look... my powers are based in magic..."
"And?"
"And I was hoping that you could give me some kind of training as to how to handle this. Maybe I could-"
"Whoa whoa whoa! Okay, let's be up front about this. You've got a danger sense, and some kind of crazy linking-things-up sense, right?"
"...that's... yeah, that's accurate."
"That's order magic. I'm a chaos mage. You work with patterns, I break `em down."
"But you have to know something about the pattern to break it, don't you?"
"Hell no. Half the time when I hex something, I have no idea what's going to happen." Well, that bites. Before you can voice your disappointment, she charges on. "But I CAN help you study this stuff. I have a pretty awesome little reference collection put together, and we might be able to convince the other magic-types around here to share what they've got." You let out a breath you didn't quite realize you were holding.
"Thanks."
"Don't mention it. Now..." She scoots into her room, picking through a pile of books on her desk. "...We can start you out with Hoyle's Book of Games."
"What."
"Hey, Eddie Hoyle was one of the greatest mages the world's ever known. The old editions of the Book had hidden cyphers with all kinds of magic info in them."
"...and you have one?"
"No. I wouldn't know how to decode one, anyway. I have... this." She holds up a three-ring binder. "It's a bunch of what's been decrypted from the older volumes. Not all of it, I'm sure - but consider it a good primer."
"Where did you get this?" You start leafing through.
"Ah - one condition on lending that to you. You never ask that question." Her smile disappears, and
>DANGER

It's twenty minutes before you have to go on patrol. You've been reading all afternoon, and stretching out slowly. You're still in less than prime condition, but you should be able to walk around without getting a cramp, and you're starting to get a vague idea about how this magic thing works. You're trying not to use your intuition on it for now - that would make it a lot easier, but you've got a deadline to keep.

When the time comes, you meet your team in the foyer. Vic glances between all of you.
"Alright. We've got three of us with a way to get around fast, and three that don't. Star, you can carry someone-"

"Yeah!" The engine thrumms softly as it slips out of the garage; it's a four-door model with a spacious backseat - although at present there isn't actually a seat there. The new parts are all gleaming white and blue, but there's large portions of the dash that are unfinished grays and reds and maroons - temporary instruments, you guess.

"Chinatown it is."

Neon.
That's the first thing you notice about Chinatown. Not as much as Vegas, but every business has an obnoxious neon sign. It's still early evening - they aren't even lit yet - but they're still conspicuous.
The second thing you notice is that every shop is either an importer, a restaurant, or trying very hard to be ignored. Vic drives slowly - not by choice, but by necessity. Traffic is heavy, and there are pedestrians everywhere.
"...alright." He pipes up after a while. "We're gonna be late meeting the others. That's cool. Not a big deal."
"Maybe we could get you a jet pack..."
"Hell no! Do I look like Iron Man? I'm not built for aerodynamics."
You lean out the window, taking stock of everything - just looking for
For

"DOWN!" You scream, putting your head between your knees just as the explosion hits. Your danger sense flares - a constant low drone. Sitting back up, the windows aren't even cracked.
"...Lemme guess. Your precog thing went off?"
"No. I saw someone holding a gun, and it looked like things were going south."
"...yeah, I'd say they went south pretty hard." The second floor windows are blown out, the paint scorched.
"So... what's the protocol?"
"Officially, we're supposed to radio back and let Pete give us instructions. Unofficially, he's kind of encouraged us to step in if it looks like something we can handle."
>A - This doesn't look like metahuman stuff. We can handle it.

"Hey, Professor?"
>"William? Don't tell me you ran into him already. Was he at a hot dog stand? Because I owe Ted five bucks if he was."
"No - no, we haven't found Marko, but there was an explosion in Chinatown."
>"Oh, great... where are you, near Stockton Street?"
"Yeah - does this thing have a GPS?"
>"No, I can see the smoke plume from here. Park the car and stick around. The police are going to need a statement if you saw anything."
Technically, you did, if only for an instant. "Got it. Anything else?"
>"Just keep an eye on the crowd for anything unusual. Anyone running away without getting medical attention, that kind of thing. If there's anyone in the building still, you can help get them out."
"Got it." It isn't close to safe, but if you wanted plain safety, you wouldn't have joined an academy like this, would you? You hit the street; a crowd is already gathering, and you can hear sirens approaching slowly. What do you do?

The priority is to observe, and so you observe. A few people run out of the first floor business - a lunch counter, it seems - but you don't see any movement coming from the top floor.
Which, really, could be for the best. After all, you -
>DANGER
>DANGER

Your danger sense comes on high alert again - you can actually feel the color drain from your face as Cain Marko approaches the crowd. He looks irritated - but more than that, he's gawking about as much as you are. His shoulders slump, and you hear him yell two words, barely above the din of the crowd.
"The FUCK?!"
He sits down on top of a disused newspaper vending machine, his mouth hanging open.

Yeah, I thought about that. Each has it's advantages.

If we're watching the building, we'll catch things that Cyborg won't, but won't have footage of it.

If we're more focused on the crowd, we might miss something from the building, since we're not focused on it.

"Well, I was supposed to be talking to some guy about a bodyguard job, but I guess he called me too late."
"...bodyguard? Really? I mean, makes perfect sense. You try that thing from the Whitney Houston movie, and the bullet would just bounce off." He considers that a moment, and nods.
"The Academy, huh?"
"...yeah."
"GodDAMN. Parker's rubbing off on you hard." He tosses you a business card. "Here. Give him this... if he has any questions, it's the guy who was supposed to be paying me."
