Dwarf Quest! The Clan of Brassbeard!

Lead by King Brondan they will forge their own path in this world, crawling up from the tribal marshes and coming together for safety and community. Their people looking for a proper place to call home, and build a legacy that their descendants could have pride in.

Of course, they must first pick and choose a location to create their home. Each will require different skills and other dwarven families will follow to different locations, where skills will be of more use. Now, where to...

A: The Grey Range: Mountains: The homeland shall be built on the slopes of the mighty mountains or even inside it.
Population: 100 Dwarves
Skill sets: Miners, Architects, Blacksmiths, and Prospectors.

B: The Grand Plains: Plains: The homeland will be built around the fields and tiny hills of the plains.
Poplation: 100 Dwarves
Skill Sets: Farmers, Blacksmiths, Traders, and Brewers.

C: The Blue Woods: The Homeland will be made from the trees, and the people shall live in the treetops and the roots.
Population: 100 Dwarves
Skill Sets: Loggers, Traders, Fishing Dwarves, and Architects

D: Write in.

Just play Dorf Fortress.
Toady one will always outmatch you OP. Always. You're not psychotic enough to work out all the details.
>>
>>34860587
Option A sounds nice
>>
>>34860587
D. The Mountains of Pantsu: The Homeland of Waifus built around gigantic mounds of undergarments.
Population: 9001 Waifus
Skill Sets: Tsundere, Yandere, Kuudere, and Deredere.
>>
>>34860587
What's the countryside in Option A (AKA the only feasible option, be real) like?
Woods close by, arable land on the slopes? What's the geology like? Good mineral resources? Any prospecting been done? Any lakes or streams for water? Native wildife? Wild goats and such?
>>
>>34860717
It's a rather sparse forest honestly. The classic sort of 'dwarfy' mountain. Their area few rivers and a few lakes dotting the things. Wildlife is rather unknown other then the basic of mountain fauna. No one really knows what the minerals are in the mountain.

We have one vote for A Currently.
>>
>>34860768
So enough water. Not enough wood. Probably poor hunting, unless we happen to find mountain goats. And hardly any arable land. On the upside, we most likely have enough minerals... Probably. And the mountains are far more defensible. Hm...
So, how far away are the plains from the mountain? Do any of the rivers that run through the mountains also run into the plain?
Could set up a colony down stream to farm. Use the river as an easy transport route. Depends on how much wood there is for boats and docks I should think...
>>
>>34860892
I vote A too
>>
>>34860908
Three days on horseback from the plains, the rivers do run to the plains but they aren't too large.
>>34860914
2 for A.
First to four will be the victor.

Voting for this.
>>
>>34860930
I'm >>34860908
I'll also go for A.

Guess food and wood are gonna be a bit of an issue though. Point A on the agenda: Trade Routes. Point B: farming trees and industrial scale fishing.
Hope there's Salmon in this river.
>>
>>34860930
Are minorities represented properly among the colonists? I vote for option A only if we get a multicultural, multivalued society.
>>
>>34861025
We should also have a matriarchy because women make better leaders and organizers of society.
>>
>>34861135
>>34861025
I find this unacceptable.
Mostly because there's not enough farmland to farm the grain necessary to make the amount of alcohol required to make this society bearable.
We get more farmland, and then we can talk.

There are all sorts of different dwarves, more dwarven traders will be going for the Plains. Of course some will come with the Mountain dwarves for example.
----A it is.--------
The Grey Range settlement is a land of a dull surface. As the population of one hundred dwarves went to the agreed location, a relatively flat area where they had started to build their surface homes themselves.

As the days went on, and everyone work hard for the good of the community they had sent a few dwarven prospectors down into caves they found. Few finding anything of true value except that the stone would be easily used as a building material.

After a week of their construction, they had dubbed the town Greytooth for both the rocks and the mountains that seemed to be the teeth of mighty giants. Their king had sat in the house given to him, polishing his axes as he gave orders to his people.

A: Have them explore the caverns more fully.
B: Have the scouts check the mountain range for anything dangerous.
C: Set the people to start to create a few forges for the smiths among them.
D: Send the miners to dig in the caves for the building stones.
E: Write in.

Population:
15 Dwarven Miners, 10 Dwarven Architects, 5 Dwarven Smiths, 5 Dwarven Prospectors. 3 Dwarven Traders, 2 Dwarven Brewers, 3 Dwarven Woodsmen, 2 Dwarven Fishers.

3 Caravan horses and two Carts.
>>
>>34861240
E:
Set up some fucking farms, anywhere possible. Set up a fishery and a lumber mill.
What are you, stupid? Never played 4x games? Smelting and metal work are always far higher up the tech tree for a reason. If we follow your logic, all our dwarves will have starved come winter.
And get someone to set up some trade routes.
>>
>>34861334
This.
Then a mis of A and D, so we can build C in the deepened caverns, and use the stones to build that guy's suggestion.

The order for farms and a fishery is taken rather well by the dwarven people. Some of them quickly working on the chopping of any nearby trees, taking the wood as a firewood and building a few sheds.

They had brough a special sort of plant with them, a Rockwheat, that dwarven people can grow even in the harshest of soil. It makes rather dull tasting bread and other such things but the dwarven people can also making a fair beer from it.

The large lumber pile near the edge of the village has been stacked as best as it could as well. Luckily most dwarves know how to swing an ax properly.

--You've developed a Rock Wheat Farm--
A: Have them explore the caverns more fully.

Agreed. Do we have any rye to plant? Rye can grow in rather poor soil, and makes very good whiskey.
>>
>>34861628
Not currently. That would be something you could specify for trade.
>>
>>34861584
D. Use the stones to make an actually decent lumber mill and fishery, and a granary to store the food safely.
Surely we can divy up Dwarves into teams for different jobs?
Assign 2 architects and the 5 smiths (they're currently useless anyway) to building the mill, 2 architects and 5 miners to building the fishery.
Have the fishermen start making nets and fishing. Have the woodsmen replant woods.
Assign the 15 miners to D. Assign the 5 prospectors to A. I also suggest we arm these prospectors.
Use the remaining 3 traders and 6 architects to fill in any shortfalls in construction. Maybe get started on the granary if there is time.

Sorry, that should be 10 miners mining. The other 5 are building. Should be enough anyway.
What about our ruler? Can we assign him to do anything?

B. Let us make haste, this was too easy

We truly do have a fan of DF on our hands.
--------------
As King Bronzebeard starts to give the orders and the dwarves get to work he starts to notice the teams are working well together. He smiles and nods as the week goes on. He notices a few dwarves are being taught to make nets, and others are making a fair sized building near the river.

As he walks through the streets waving kindly to his people he sees a large mill being constructed, the axes and hammers being used more for the construction. Without more advanced blades the work would be slow but well done.

Not long after, he sees a few of the miners going off to the mountains with the prospectors. The caves not far away but not close enough to hear the constant clanging of the picks and hammers against the stones.

Not long after the night had fallen, and a fair amount of stone was brough back with the help of the horses a large bird like cry is heard. The dwarves are now on edge as a huge shape swoops down and makes off with the horse pulling the cart.

The cart topples and the dwarf rider is pinned under it as the horse is torn away with painful whinnys and the community works to bring the injuried miner to his own home so he could be tended to by the healers.

Seems there are more dangers then known.

A: Have them explore the caverns more fully.
B: Have the scouts check the mountain range for anything dangerous.
C: Set the people to start to create a few forges for the smiths among them.
D: Find some use for the building stone.
E: Have the Dwarves find what that monster was.

>We truly do have a fan of DF on our hands.
This is /tg/. So... yeah, duh.

Gosh I wonder OP. Do you maybe want us to do E? Well, tough luck, we don't need 99 Dwarves to do that.
Arm the prospectors and Traders, and some of the miners so we have a dozen men, preferably armed with crossbows.
What weapons and armour do we have btw, OP?
Have the rest of the dwarves do D. Finish the Mill and fishery.
> Without more advanced blades the work would be slow but well done.
And C is next priority, clearly. For weapons too.
>>
>>34862080
You currently have roughly twenty axes, fifteen battlehammers, five crossbows (each with about twenty bolts), a fair amount of leather armor and a few sets of chainmail.
King Bronzebeard is currently wearing a set of chainmail and has his own battleaxe not counted with the others.
>>
>>34862130
Right. So let's send a dozen men, 5 armed with crossbows and the rest with axes, to find the beast in E. Armour the 7 front line dudes in as heavy armour as possible, the marksdwarves can do with lighter. or maybe all in leather to be stealthier? Sneak up and shank it in it's nest?
Thoughts, anyone?

The rest can just finish construction, continue farming and fishing... and have one of the woodsmen start training to become a fletcher. We will need more bolts.
So E and D, then C.
>>
>>34862130
Can the axes be thrown, like franciscas?
>>
How about we Trojan Horse the monster?

Have a horse drawn cart brought down on the same route, and fill the cart with marksdwarves and warriors. Then they all run out and shoot it when it tries to grab the horse.

King Bronzebeard quickly rallies many of the man's friends who were trained in combat to be armed with the settlement's weaponry. Many of them skilled with using their own axes and the prospectors focusing on their crossbows. They head off during the day as the King looks at them worriedly.

The rest of the people focus on making sure everything is done well. The mill is made rather well, the stone being able to be worked by one of the horses or a few dwarves strapped into the harness.

The fishery takes a bit longer, and only a few of the younger dwarves interested in working there. But the fishermen takes a trio of his own sons and starts to train them. Most of the time working at the nets carefully and bringing in a fair haul of the fish.

As night falls, a few torches light through the night awaken a few guarrds stationed spying the dwarves sent out to find the beast. And carrying a great head of it above them and it's wings behind them.

One of the prospectors is carrying something else, a trio of eggs which by their accounts came from the monster's nest. They despribed it as a mix of a lion and an eagle. They had killed it by finding it while sleeping and jumping on it's back starting to hack and shoot at it.

One of the eggs is given to the king, one is kept by the prospector who found them originally, and one is given to the injuried miner. Who is known as Brundar, the broken.

A: Have them explore the caverns more fully.
B: Have the scouts check the mountain range for anything dangerous.
C: Set the people to start to create a few forges for the smiths among them.
D: Find some use for the building stone.
E: Have the Dwarves 'research' what the hell the eggs were.
F: Write in.
>>
>>34862333
Is the miner useful for anything still? Else, I suggest we give him the relatively easy and light job of becoming a fletcher. Maybe crossbow maker later too, if he can. Get him to make a couple more crossbows of that wood, if he can.
So... we gonna need to domesticate the griphons OP? For now best to keep it warm I suppose. So E.
And also D. Finish those damn buildings so we can move on to C and make better and more arms.
Also, have those prospectors prospect for some Iron with the miners.
>>
>>34862451
Question: What are we going to feed these griphons? So far our dwarves are only eating fish and rockwheat bread and beer.
There must be animals the griphon fed on in these mountains?
I suggest that after we finish the building and set up iron industry, we have some Dwarves search the mountains for any domesticable animals. Would be good to feed the griphons, and also diversify our Dwarves diet.
>>
>>34862451
The Brundar is currently sort of in a depression, his only real object of entertainment is the egg. He is given some things by a few of the others and told the basics of fletchery. He makes bolts and uses a few bits of wood to make some rather basic basic crossbows. Ones more geared for target shooting then anything else.

The buildings are then finished, and the forge is fast behind. The smiths making the progress even faster making them fairly happy. As they start to light the fires and do the basics the miners go back out to the cave.

Soon striking a vein of iron, with the help of the prospectors they start to dig out as much as they can to start to send back home. King Bronzebeard and the prospector's eggs being kept close to their fires, while the third egg being kept to Brundar chest in a cloth harness. Many find this...odd...

As soon as it happens, a caravan arrives, a few elves sitting on their wooden card being pulled by tamed stag. The dwarves interested in trading different goods like their ground wheat and fish with the elves. Other not quiet trusting the tricks of elves.

A: Have a few dwarves explore the mountains
B: Have the Miners continue digging out that iron vein.
C: Start a trade with the elves.
D: We're dwarves, we don't trade with elves.
E: Write in

>rockwheat bread and beer.
No bakery or brewery yet bro. So just fish as it stands, and whatever supplies we brought with us.
>>
>>34862670
I don't know... I want to know what these Elves have to sell.
So strike up a conversation with their leader. What I want to know is:
What do they have to trade?
How far away have they come? Where is the nearest elven outpost?

And I pay close attention to how many elves there are, and how well armed they are.
>>
>>34862725
The elves have bows, wine, and a few unique tomes they claim are from a wizard's library. Not to mention there are only five elves with only two of them being actually armed. Explaining where they come from, the leader gets nervous and coughs explaining 'We can't go back, so their no point in explaining direction'.
>>
>>34862670
A. We need some goats or something as a food source, and a source for wool for textile. Sheep would be better, but mountains, ya know. Gonna need to feed them griphons.
>>
>>34862778
Ask more.
"Why can't you go back? No worries elf boy, we don't much care about what you did to other Elves. I mean, I'm now asking because I need to know the kind of man I'm dealing with here. And it might be useful to know whereabouts these other Elves are, so where you from?"

>wine, tomes and bows
Not very useful...
>>
>>34862670
E. Smite the Elves and seize their goods, for the glory of Armok!
>>
>>34862841
Hold up. Need to know if we can ransom these guys or what. Or use them to our own ends. Or something.

It's certainly not worth the trouble to murder some elves and risk our Dwarves over some moonrune books and shoddy elf wine.
>>
>>34862836
"My son was...well he used be a wizard. He borrowed a few books unknowingly bringing them home was illegal." The man explained and glanced at one of the young elves reading from one of the tomes in a robe. "I was leaving on the trade route anyway, we bring most of our own items left and end up in a new home."

"Now what would you like to trade for?"
>>
>>34862938
"Looking for a new home are you? Hm... And you got a wizard with you? Or a wizard in training, anyway... Listen here, how's this... We build you Elves a place, with a wizard tower and all that, in return you guys with the wizard use your magic to back us up. Could use some Elven fighters too. What do you say? a solid hundred dwarves to hide behind from your fellow elves, room and board all arranged for you, and all you gotta do is Stay the fuck away from the town itself, and be scouts or watchers or something like that"
>>
>>34863049
"Fair enough." The elf said as the boy perks up along with the guards rolling their eyes. The King shaking hand with the elf who seems to smile simply as the other dwarves build them a a 'simple' home out in the distance just out of sight of the town. Closer to the mines.

---You now have the 'Elven Traders' in the town.----------

A: Have a few dwarves explore the mountains
B: Have the Miners continue digging out that iron vein.
C: Let's have that tower start to be built.
D: Let's go exploring for more caves.
E: Write in.
>>
>>34863049
So is the plan to get Elven Gryphon ride wizards?
>>
>>34863155
>A: Have a few dwarves explore the mountains
Send a messenger to the Elves. New job: explore the mountains. Find us some goats, would you kindly chaps? Your sort of thing after all, trodding around in the wild, enjoying nature and all that.
So that's one taken care of...

As for B: how much iron do we already have, and can we make better tools/weapons with it?
C can wait. A while.
>>
>>34863155
Can the Wizard do any magic?
>>
>>34863286
Consider him a second level wizard.
>>
>>34863155
A
Do what >>34863257 said, but also see if we can establish any kind of lookout post on a peak, and we could even find an area for building signal fires, should we expand our control across more mountains. This would also establish the possibility of constructing an observatory for our wizard in the future.
>>
>>34863376
In that case, we might as well build that wizard tower and use the Elves as lookouts. 2 birds with one stone.

>>34863346
In D&D terms I assume? Are there any useful spells we can have this guy do.... What sort of spells does he know OP? Anything useful outside of combat? Anything in those tomes he can study that would help?
>>
>>34863376
The Elves are contacted by a runner, bringing the message and a pair of elves go out running. It seems this was a single family, the two older sons being fighters while the youngest going to wizardry school.
----
As the Elves aid with the building of the tower by the dwarves, mainly by holding them up with the ropes or boosting them making the dwarves start to kind of like the elven family.

As the pair of scouts come back with a few goats, one dead on one of their backs the other tied up and on leads seeming half dazed impressing the dwarves.

The dwarven smiths start to build a few more weapons, a few new sets of armor for the different military types needed.
------
In DnD terms he would be currently an Evocation wizard. So he knows a primary section of fighting spells but a few spells to help with other things, including all the cantrips a wizard could do.
>>
>>34863541
"one goat? Where did you find these? We're gonna need more. Like 6 or 7. One male, mostly females, preferably, if you can"
Meanwhile, set up an enclosure for these Goats.
How does the village look now OP? What buildings do we have, and what food do we have? Weapons?
>>
>>34863541
And this is where we cut it off for today folks, next thread should be tomorrow about the same time. If not then the next day.
