The EPD was quietly audited, and it was found they were sitting on their hands when it came to disposing their confiscated weapons. A few phone calls, and the stolen weapons were very quickly and very publicly destroyed. You decide to go check up on your crew. As always, they're working over the Ghost Hawk and the Comanche to make sure that they're 100%. Taking a glance, you can see Rex maintaining all the weapons, with Ghost peeking over his shoulder as he works. Actually, now that you think about it, you've never recalled a time where you saw Ghost out on mission. Then again, since she was a stealthwitch, that was probably the point.

Meanwhile, Bullseye, Snips, and Hoskins had a maintenance panel popped open and were checking the engine for wear and tear. However, you say Bullseye had a nervous expression. Or maybe that he just didn't get enough sleep or ate something bad. The meals here were pretty seafood heavy, after all.

And meanwhile, there was Ugly, sticking his head inside his craft's new magical weapon bay to check for complications. His sister was sitting quietly in the gunner seat, keeping the craft powered and humming a little tune to pass the time.

"It's not that. I'm ecstatic, but.... I'm just worried that she's going to torpedo her own career just to be with me. I mean, going AWOL, especially in the middle of a freaking war, is a pretty serious offense."

Your first impression was that they were some kind of spooks looking for someone to take up some kind of suicide mission. The fact that black uniformed AFSOC personnel piled out of the humvees only strengthened that assumption.

"Please come with us, sir. It's urgent."

"Confidential information. Can't speak in the open." The AFSOC captain steps aside and opens the door of the center humvee. "Please don't make a scene."

You just sigh and enter the humvee, and are surprised to see Kelsey sitting in the adjacent seat. The rest of the AFSOC men load up and small convoy takes off.

"Where do you want us to go? Back to your office?" The driver asks.

"No, just drive some laps around the base." Kelsey says before turning to you. "I'm sorry for all this cloak and dagger, but there's a situation."

"Three hours ago, a combined Russian and Chinese force attacked and occupied Okushiri Island, just off the west coast of northern Japan." He explained.

"What?" You blink. "I thought the Reds didn't have a navy presence in the Pacific anymore."

"Vladivostok, where we think the assault force came out from, has its own naval assets. We just assumed they'd keep them close as a defense force. Apparently we were wrong. And it couldn't have come at a worse time. A lot of our naval assets are out of position in preparation for Blue Dragon. But that's not the problem."

"Really? Then what is?"

"When the Reds attacked, the Japanese sent a quick reaction force to try to dislodge them from the island." Kelsey sighed. "And during the fighting, Princess Katsumi of the Imperial Family was shot down."

Your heart freezes when you hear the name.

"Of course, this would be monumentally disastrous if word got out that a member of the Imperial Family had fallen in battle, or worse, captured. The Japanese have a full press blackout in place, but we don't have much time."

"Time for what?" You blink.

"We need someone to get on that island and confirm that Princess Katsumi is alive or dead. The Royal Guard is excellent in many fields, but CSAR is not one of them. They want the best, so that's why I'm here."

"Wow." Is all that can manage to utter.

"Now, I know the Japanese have been VERY insistent you go, but I'm not going to force a man to step on that island. This is a volunteer only mission."

"I get the stakes, sir." You assure him.

"Good. You'll be temporarily transferring onto the amphibious assault ship Ise. At full speed we should be able to get there before nightfall."

"What kind of support can we expect?" You ask.

"Not much." Kelsey sighs. "The Russians and Chinese are dug in pretty deep. Doesn't help that they managed to capture the island's airport intact, too, so they have a somewhat stable supply line. Plus, the Japanese won't stage a full scale assault until they can confirm the Princess' safety."

"So basically our only support is whatever we bring with us."

"That's right." Kelsey nods. "I don't think I need to state the obvious, but try to keep your squadron as small as you can. The more people you bring, the more likely we'll be noticed."

"I understand."

The humvee then screeches to a halt. One of the AFSOC men opens the door for you and you find yourself back at the hangar. Already, your witches and your crew are making preparations to take off as if it were a scramble alert.

"Hey, Cap!" Red dashes up to you. "Do you know what's going on? All they told is that we have to head for some island up north."

"All right, everybody, here's the situation." You say, talking on your encrypted squadron net. "The two witches that we're rescuing are Jess and Katsumi."

The channel stays quiet as the gravity of what you just said sinks in.

"Now, I now that it sounds and looks bad, but there's a good chance that they're both still alive. Otherwise, they wouldn't be sending us in." You say in a attempt to calm them down. "But in the end, we treat this like any other mission. We get in, save lives, and get out. Everybody follow?"

"Yes sir!" Everybody affirms, their minds now focused.

You notice Rex inspecting the miniguns with extra due diligence. After all, he's just heard his own little sister got shot down. You don't know a lot of guys who could just shrug that sort of news off.

You look out the door and see... something. You weren't quite sure WHAT you were looking at. When Kelsey said it was an "amphibious assault ship", you assumed it would be something like the Tarawa-class carriers the Marines used. But... THIS...

It looked as if whoever built the thing couldn't decide if he wanted a carrier or a battleship, and just went "fuck it" and smushed the two together on a single hull.

"Are you serious?" You turn to Jetstream, pointing at the maritime abomination below you.

"I admit, it's not exactly one of the IJN's brightest ideas..." Jetstream chuckles. "But it's still a warship, and as long as it floats and has working guns, a warship it will remain.
