Sorry about not running Sunday night, guys, work likes to fuck me.

You turn your head and retch hard, and your chest is a mass of pain and you retch again, bringing up water, and then you're dry-heaving, stomach and lungs empty. You shove a hand against your chest, feeling for new bullet holes. There are none. You let your head flop back against the hard metal of the helicopter, and then you almost retch again, but nothing comes up.

“Good kids,” you slur uneasily to Rei, answering her question. “'s all good kids,” you repeat. Someone hands you a juicebox with the straw already stuck in, and you begin slurping it up greedily. Delicious orange juice. You turn your head again, and see the blue-haired girl drinking from a juice box much like yours.

“You're fucking nuts, Comrade Cryan,” the Ukrainian (Sergei, your mind helpfully supplies,) says from above you. “But good kind of fucking nuts, da?”

“No,” Irwin, ('strayan, your mind tells you again, and a right proper cunt of a 'strayan he is,) chimes in. “He's got a death wish. Doesn't want to be here, does he? Doesn't want to be around anymore. Thinks if he dies in the line of duty it won't much matter to anyone. Innit right, Cryan?”

“Go fuck yourself,” you slur angrily. “Get right fucked, mate,” you tell him. “You don't know shit.” And then you spit at him, and it's tinged with phlegm and blood, and he flinches back.

“Bastard,” he snarls, and makes to lunge at you, but apparently he thinks better of it, for he draws back and scowls fiercely. The fight leaves you, then, and you slump back against the metal beneath you. Patting a hand down your side, you check for holes, and then realize your stitching from the day before yesterday has popped loose. It's not bleed, badly, at least, but you realize you can get someone that knows how to stitch properly to do it for you.

[]Do it yourself.

Waving a hand at Sergei, you catch his attention. He kneels beside you once more, and you indicate your side. He probes with a gloved finger for a moment, and you wince in pain.

“Apologies, comrade. How long ago did this happen?”

“Day before yesterday,” you tell him. “I caught it, but the other guys caught it worse.”

“Would this have been the... 'altercation' at the Lawson's we heard about?”

“Da,” you grin up at his cheerful face.

“Was good work, my brother said. He was Security Service.”

“Glad to know I've got his approval,” you say easily.

“Are you of wanting a simple bandage or stitches?” Sergei asks.

“Bandage, I think,” you tell him. “I don't need stitches popping open on me again.”

“No wonder they did,” he says with a cluck of disapproval. “These were the stitches of amateurs. Rank, horrible amateurs.”

“Well,” you begin with a loopy grin. “Considering I was doing it in a bathroom and half-loaded, at the time... I suppose yes, I am the rankest of amateurs.”

“I did not mean to offend,” Sergei attempts hastily, but you wave him off.

“No matter, Sergei. It's because I'm not a tinker or tailor.”

“I know what you are referencing! Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor, da?”

“Da,” you confirm. “I suspect it's best in the original English, but no doubt the Ukrainian translation is excellent,” you reassure him.

“I would not know,” he admits as his hands begin to deftly open up your clothing around the bullet hole and popped stitches. “I am ethnic Russian and do not speak Ukrainian, but consider myself wholly and truly a Ukrainian. Glory to heroes, glory to Ukraine, da?”

“Of course,” you nod. His eyes smile at you, even though his face is set in determination. He falls silent, so you do too, and let him work. He slaps some sort of cream on your skin that numbs it, and then he begins to work.

When he finally ceases, he pats your side, and helps you sit up. “I have stitched and bandaged the wound, but I am thinking you won't need it long.”

“Thanks,” you tell him. “Thanks.”

“Is my job, nyet?” He moves to talk to the pilot, and you're left leaning against a seat, across from Rei. She stares at you, impassively, as though she's trying to work through a tough math problem.

That's the thing, she literally needs to die.
Only by destroying unit zero can she recover the part of her soul inside of it.

That and if that happens it can be used for more character building.

Of course Armisael is quite far from where were at in the story, but it's important.

You slide across the deck with your hands, and stare back. She doesn't say anything.

“Rei,” you grin confidently. “I know I'm devastatingly handsome, but take a picture, lass. It'll last longer.” She doesn't react to your bait.

You stare for a moment longer, and you're about to move away, when she speaks.

“You are not worth less than myself,” she says. “I am replaceable. I a-”

“Bullshit,” you interrupt her. “Fucking bullshit. You've got decades ahead of you to live. To love. To learn. To grow. To live,” you repeat.

“Cryan. You do not understand. And that is okay. I do not expect you to understand. I want to know why, though.”

“Why what?”

“Why do I remember you dying hundreds of times? Why are not dead right now?”

Your blood runs cold, and your heart skips a beat. It accelerates, for suddenly you're fearful. But what can she do? What does she know? You wish you knew what was going on in your head or soul. Forcing that aside, you grin at Rei.

“Now who's replaceable?” You ask her quietly.

“I-”

“I don't know why you'd dream about my deaths,” you tell her. “But they're just dreams. Not memories, or whatever. Dreams.”

“I don't dream,” she tells you.

“Then they're fucking visions of the future and all the horrible ways I could die,” you snarl. “But they haven't happened yet.”

“I see,” she says.

You move back to your spot on the floor, leaning against the seat, and close your eyes. Nothing happens for a few moments, and the silence is blessed, but then it's interrupted.

“We haven't been able to kill the Angels,” Sergei says as he sits in the seat to your left. “They've dropped an N2 mine on them, and it's halted their progress for now. Estimates give us a week.”

“Christ,” you say. “What a bloody mess.”

“Just land us at the airbase. I'll get Rei to the docs to be checked out.”

“Of course,” Sergei says. “I will alert the pilot to your wishes.” You thank him, and he leaves again. You feel a strange desire to get right with God, but it passes almost as soon as you felt it, and you try to remember the last time you said confession.

That would have been, oh, quite a few years ago. At least. You wonder why Rei was so unusually vocal. It's out of character, for her. Is she remembering? She shouldn't be. Not like you. You don't see how she'd be able to, either. She just might not be feeling well. But that doesn't make sense. She never feels unwell.

You eye her carefully, and she eyes you back. You close your eyes, not wanting to picture her above the world, and try instead to think of home. The tenement you grew up in was small and smelled of cigarette smoke from the surrounding rooms, but your mother was there, and she took care of you.

It was small, cramped, but it was home. You think of the rolling hills and old-growth forests you'd spend weekends in, tanning to a warm brown hue beneath a soft Irish sun, skinning your knees on tree roots and rocks, and splashing through streams. It was- nice.

And then you realize you've fallen asleep, and staring across a table from you is your mother.

“Declan,” she says. It's not Lily. She didn't smell like your mother does, and you can pick that up, even across the table, and you wonder how.

“Ma,” you say quietly. “Such a tall boy, you are. I never would have expected it. Surely it can't be all my side of the family. Perhaps your father's people were tall?”

“You're dead and in the ground, Ma. Stop this dream business.” She manages to look hurt, and her eyes brim with tears.

“Cut the shit, Ma,” you tell her angrily.

“Why would you say such hurtful things to your own dear mother, Declan?”

“Because you're not my mother,” you say coldly. “You're a memory or the synapses in my brain firing in patterns they shouldn't be, but you're not my mother. You're not Darcy Cryan. She's dead and in the ground.”

“And do you not feel guilty, for that being so? For forcing her to do what she did so she could feed you?”

“I never forced her to any choice, or any course of action,” you whisper. “She was an adult and capable of making her own decisions. I never held a gun against her head and made her do anything.”

“But that's the thing, Declan, dear, isn't it? She had to keep you fed and alive.”

“And so she did. And when she couldn't, I took it upon myself to do so.”

“By becoming a killer? Sure, and Darcy would be mighty pleased by that turn of even-”

What's the worst she can do? It's your fucking head, not hers. You keep walking. Her shouts fade into the distance, and the landscape changes from a black nothingness with a single lightbulb above the table you flipped to gently rolling hills, old trees that one could sleep underneath, and a dense fog, hanging over everything.

From your left, the first man you ever killed drifts along beside you, clothes tattered, feet gliding above the ground.

“Declan Cryan,” he rasps.

“Pat Murphy,” you greet. “Why are you here?”

“I don't know,” his voice is a growl, as though speaking is difficult. “Watch for he who weren't a father,” he warns in an odd tone of voice, as though he's not used to speaking. And then he's gone again.

The next man comes from your right, and he's dark-skinned and nearly naked, with a Kalashnikov slung over his shoulder.

“White man,” he smiles at you with his lips pulled back, clearly a threat.

“Liberian,” you greet him with his nationality.

“Be watchin' for de man what don't commit,” he warns in that same tone of voice Pat Murphy had used. You wonder what the Hell is going on. These are old enemies, and you don't need any warning to be watchful, especially not from them.

“Reliving the old days, Declan?” You turn your head, and Lily is there on your left, but she's different. She's got a cigarette dangling from her lips, and she's blonde, now.
>>
>>34659363

The table flip champion returns!
>>
“So what if I am?” You ask defensively. “The old days were the best days. I didn't have the weight of the world and four teenagers on my shoulder. I didn't have to deal with everything.” A wave of your hand encompasses the 'everything.'

“It's bad for you.”

“Everything's fucking bad for me,” you snarl. “Alcohol is bad for me liver, smoking is bad for me lungs.”

“I'm not bad for you,” Lily begins, but you spit on the dirt at her feet.

“Sure you're not,” you say bitterly. “You're a SOMETHING in my fucking head, apparently capable of toying with time and forcing my soul backwards in time over and fucking over, and there's a debt on my soul. What kind of debt, Lily? What kind of weight am I dragging with me everytime I fuck up?”

“Your bitterness and inability to get over your failure,” she says quietly. You turn to face her, and her eyes don't meet your own.

You are. I'd wife you so hard you'd give birth to our child and we'd both raise him/her as best we could. While, sometime in the future we'd grow somewhat dissatisfied with each other and divorce, we'd still be proud of our progeny. Some days, we'd both wonder what would happen if we had stayed together, but ultimately, we'd never be able to reconcile our differences.

We'd both go on to be successful in our own respective fields and remain good friends, though. I'd develop a congenital heart condition and have a few months left to live, and I'd choose to spend those last few months with you and our child, getting to know you better as people before I pass on.

You'd go on to live the rest of your life, fulfilled.

You look into her eyes. And then you take a step forward, bridging that interminable distance between the two of you, and you seize her head in your hands.

“So what the fuck do I do to win, Lily? Quit playing your fucking games,” you rasp. “I'm beginning to think you don't actually want me to succeed.” You need a cigarette. You need a drink. You probably need a good fuck, too, but that's for later, if there ever is a later.

Her eyes fill with tears, and she tries to jerk away from you, but you're not having it. You don't let go.

“I don't know,” she mutters. “I don't know, I can't see it, you're hurting me I can't look that far it hasn't happened so I don't know please stop hurting me.” You drop your hands, disgusted with yourself for hurting someone that can't hurt you back, and disgusted at her for not being able to tell you shit.

“So,” you start. “You don't know how I can succeed. Or you do, you're just not telling. Y'know,” you say conversationally. “I bet starting Third Impact myself might be a good way to go about things. I'm certain I could rustle up Rei and whatever else it is I need. Maybe slaughter some technicians while I'm at it. After all, I'm just as much a monster as Hitler, right?”

Her eyes widen and Lily shakes her head at you.

“Don't do that that would be the end I couldn't be with you please don't leave me alone-” she continues in that vein for a minute, and you look away, even more disgusted- at you or her, you can't tell now.

“Fuck,” you snarl into the mist. “What do I fucking do, then? How do I fucking win? What's the fucking secret?”

“I don't know,” she repeats, and your hand comes up of its own accord and almost rockets into her face, but you stop it and it's a close thing, but you feel dirty, now, for almost hitting a girl(is she really just 'a girl', Dec? Still, your mother had always told you- never hit a girl.)

You step back.

“Would you hit me, then? I, who love you? Would you strike me, Dec?”

Well, instead of saying, "this shit is stupid hurr I'm not going to add anything other than to say it's stupid," why don't you say...

"Frankly, tang, this kind of stuff is getting annoying. It's clear you have no idea what you're doing, but that's kind of okay because when you do do something you know what you're doing, like the fighting parts, that's excellent.

I'd suggest learning to write characters better, and come up with some overarching plot."

Or something, instead of being a passive aggressive cunt about and just going "hurr it's stupid needs moar waifu"
>>
>>34661657
you should have just asked him to elaborate

>>
>>34661657
Declan should have a series of flashbacks of screwing all the girls, just so we can get it out of our system.
>>
>>34661657
Honestly I think waifu is the problem, reading this thread with the exceptionally lame take on Rei, and now Lily is what annoys me. Especially in those two veins it's the same stuff over and over and it's like you're writing it without any effort, or worse some sort of underlying waifu bias.

The same goes on with previous threads, there's all this waifuing here and there and this whole scenario that sounds good in the beginning just sprawls over the waifu stuff too much.

You're able to criticize yourself, and that's fine and it sounds like you know what I'm talking about already.

So why do I think this shit is stupid? For being repetitive, it's even getting convoluted, and a bit forced. This current dream-scenario has since it's beginning been a just a tip-toeing and a lot of aggressiveness towards Lily, never reaching any sort of conclusion so continuing to push down that road is well, what do you want really?
>>
>>34661852
>a lot of aggressiveness towards Lily

isn't that really more from the players?
>>
>>34662013
Nope, the option is always included and focused on in-text - even when players focus away from it, like was always the case in previous threads.
>>
>>34661657
Eh I actually like the whole deal with a being beyond our comprehension and the immortality is not all its cracked up to be angle. I think it would be helpful if we had a better characterization of how much control over the situation Lily has. But I do like the concept of the character and its an interesting take on the NGE canon.
>>
>>34662013
I can't even tell at this point, there's a lot aspects of Dec's personality we don't really have control over, especially with his bouts of insanity/flashbacks because of the looping thing.
>>
>>34662013
It's written in in the post, not as write-ins or similar. It's from the writer, since players choose the peaceful option regularly.
Could say a lot about declan, but it's getting repetitive and never seems to go anywhere, yet it keeps being added and added and the result is that there's no progress.
>>
>>34661657

I Like Lily!

And her scenes always have a point. You can just taste the escalating madness, despair, what have you.

Dec x Madness, all the way.
>>
>>34662087

>>
>>34661299

>[X]”No- I- Jesus. It's fucking rough, knowing I'm basically doomed to failure. You try it, sometime.”

<3 Lilly.
>>
>>34662087
I like Lily too, but it's not like where going anywhere.
If she's supposed to be some soul-version of Rei then the synergy between them are just too lacking and Rei herself responds waaay to ignorant/strange about what she should be able to figure out and be more blunt about herself, and Declan too responds weirdly.

Maybe I just like the concept of Lily and not the writing, though? This crying and p-please don't l-leave me is just strange at this point.
>>
>>34662259
>>34662150
>>34662087

The thing is I don't even like lily. Her characterization has always been shit, she offers us nothing of value really, and these dream sequences kinda fuck up the flow of the quest.

I wish we could get rid of her honestly, I don't see why declan needs an imaginary friend to show him the horrors of his life when just seeing Lilith in Central Dogma would have been good enough to send him into a mindfuck, no Lily needed.
>>
>>34661299
>[]”I've hit lots of people before. You wouldn't be the first.”

Teach this bitch a lesson
>>
>>34662365
I was fine with her at first.

It's just that Tang hasn't really gone anywhere with her.
>>
>>34662365
To be quite frank, this whole idea that it's happened over and over again kind of sucks and with that, Lily as well I guess since she's fronting that whole plot.

Concept's not too bad though of a "Lily", but maybe it's too soon and the Central Dogma thing would be enough to get things going. Similarly the synergy with Rei just isn't there is it?

I kind of have to agree with you, just not 100% since I did like the concept.... the bare bones of it.

“No- I- Jesus,” you say. “It's fucking rough, knowing I'm basically doomed to failure from the start. You try it sometime.”

“Judging from the way you're reacting to everything, I don't think I will,” Lily tries to joke. You don't laugh.

“Do you love me, though? Me? Why would you put someone you love through this shit?”

“You wanted it,” she says defensively. “'Send me back', you said,” and her voice is an eerily similar version of yours, now. “'Send me back so I can make things right for the Kids,' so I did. I fell in love with you over the course of watching you at your highs, and your lows, and every point in between. You're not perfect- your God knows no man is. But you try to do your best. And what more could a girl ask?”

“A lot. So what exactly can you do?”

“Right now? Nothing. My soul is not... Whole. At Third Impact? Time and space could be my playthings, if I so desired them to be. That's how I managed to get you back, and keep doing it- and why. You kept asking. It says something about you, I think, that you would choose to suffer like that, over and over.”

“Yeah,” you say. “I'm a masochist.” Your lip curls, then, and you slump your shoulders in defeat. “I don't know what to do. How do I defeat things that I can't even get close enough to touch, let alone hurt?”

(1/2)
>>
>>34661299

I've hit lots of people before, you won't be the first, you won't be the last
>>
“I think you need to worry less about that,” Lily says as she moves to embrace you, “and worry more about being a good role model for the children, and a friend for Katsuragi, if she needs it. I'll be here a while, yet.” Putting a stiff arm around her shoulders, you roll your own, and look up at the sky.

The mist is clearing, some. Maybe this probably impending sign of your own madness is right. There's just some things you can't change. Fish for the nets if God wills it, the fishermen in the fleet would say.

When you open your eyes, the helicopter is landing and you don't hurt- anywhere. Striking that aside, for now, you stand. Rei follows suit. Thanking Sergei and the pilot, you head for the Infirmary, Rei following behind you.

Okay, we're done for tonight. I was actually planning on ending a little later, but I've got to go run errands and this is a good a spot as any.

Eliminate SEELE

Alright it ended, what was the point.
>>
>>34662799

None, there was no point.

Lily serves no point

Remove Lily

Remove Kebab
>>
>>34662799

Simple. For all the games of Tableflip we played, once we knew who she was, actual violence towards the lady was never a thing. But Dec's pushing closer to that edge. He's running out of time, both in this loop, and in general.

He's rushing towards that breaking point where, in spite of personal (player) motivations (stop third impact &ct.), he might accidentally ruin everything he's worked for.
>>
>>34662881

That doesn't say what the point of the dream was

Once lily showed up there was no point at all

At least the dead foes kinda had a point. They told us to watch out for Gendo and Kaiji
>>
>>34662707
But don't disregard the criticism. The whole dynamic with Lily has been tiresome and repetitive for a while.

Either make sure it advances the character or the plot, or else make it short enough that people won't mind.
>>
>>34662581
Hey, does Declan have a memory of trying to tell someone *everything*? Wondering how that'd go over.
>>
>>34663031
seeing as how the loop is still going, not very well
