Previously:
San Diego is wiped out by a tidal wave, a young man caught in the deluge as the city is erased by what some might consider the very wrath of god in a world with a sky of endless colors. Snatched from the brunt of the wave, the young man faces an inhuman creature of humanoid form that strikes out his eye to deliver onto him the gift of magic by means of the followers.

Praise be to Susej they say. These followers.

Selfish in his means of survival, a young man rallies with these people for his own safety as the government seeks to keep the truth of the world under wraps, that magic exists and that people like the followers are throwing it into chaos.

Sent on a mission to liberate people captured for conscription based on their awakening to magic, he journeys with others to meet with a woman planted for this very purpose, finding adversity on the way.

Having left a trail all too easy to follow, he's been captured and taken to the very place he'd been looking to gain access, though not exactly on his own terms...

Recently rescued by unknown allies, the young man takes on a new alias “Faust” to help him lay low.

You are Faust, welcome to Over(human)Limit S2

Amidst the cover of the wood, you put yourself to the test, simulating that strange spell from before.
You summon the doppleganger to the riverside, it turns and destroys you. With a blink, you're standing on the other side
You do this again, and once more as you blink to new awareness you've moved and the body vanishes.

A strange and unnatural spell. But it's just like that, with a blink... Blink. That's a good name for it. The burn is less now than even last night, and it's getting faster. Looking through the wood, you pick a spot and say the word.

“Blink” Your alter ego is cast to the other side, a snap later and you're partially trapped between thorn bushes. With a rustle for comfort, you feel a thorn drag across your skin, “Shit...” stings like hell.

“Blink” Casting yourself out to tte riverside again, you free yourself of the thorns. There's still a sting. Looking down, you still see the beading of blood from where the thorn cut you. You suck at it, wincing. Seems that it's not a get out of injury free. Pulling away, you stare at it. What if this is because you didn't do it to yourself? You'll need to be sure. Pulling up a series of stones from the river with a wave of your hand, you pick out a nice sharp one. Using it to put a small cut on your skin, you blink again.

The injury's still there. One more test. You begin to blink while holding the stone. Just before your copy kills you, you inflict a third slash before it all ends again.
This time, the mark vanishes.

So when blink starts any damage you suffer after is negated... Cool.

There's a rustle at the brush edge of the river, you turn out fingers at the ready to snap, a switch to astral perception to track whatever might be out there. Is it just you or did you become rather paranoid at some point?
>>
>>34651303

“Woah! I'm good, promise!” A familiar voice calls back. You see a fox-person with two tails from beyond the brush. Echo.

Lowering your fingers, you relax,”Scared me for a second, thought you were Overwatch or something.”

The girl nods once and rolls her eyes, “Yeah, Marcus told me about that too.” She puts a hand up in that weird handsign from before.
~Marcus is happy because of Sapphie!~
Your brow twitches and she puts the strange magical handpuppet down, “So, why are you killing yourself out here?”

You cross your arms, a befuddled look as to how exactly you justify assisted suicide teleportation. You come up with an eloquent answer, “None of your damn business.”

Echo stares at you with scrutiny glazing over her eyes, raising up the hand-puppet gesture.
~Asher kills himself to gofast!~

You stare at the little tattling fox in the astral, annoyed and confounded.

Echo stares back at you with a cheesy grin, her hand shakes. ~Fox kisses?~

“No.”

After that, Echo pesters you for a while. She keeps talking and asking you questions and whenever you don't answer something Fox gives her the answer. You find that maintaining a conversation while blinking intermittently is rather disorienting but not impossible. Good to know, you guess.

While you're taking a break from the accumulated burn getting to be too much, Echo finally hops up. “Can I show you what I learned now?”

“Go for it, you lean back against a chair-like rock formation. Not natural of course, but definitely looks it.

She flicks out fox and snaps her fingers, the orange hue of her magic bursting out into blue flames. The strange part about it though is that from what you see in the astral, it's not combustion, it's just her aura getting juiced out and converted into flames. To be honest you'd never seen how a vein fights outside of the shit that Emilia would put herself through until Echo and Saphira.
>>
>>34651335
The girl performs a dextrous no-hands flip while sending out the flame, some of it coming back to tickle along her arms, wrapping her body up into a burning cloak. “I figured this out too!” With her arms and legs coated in indigo flames, she drops into a four legged run. Despite the awkward position, she manages to get some pretty good speed. With a flip, she digs a heel into the loamy soil to stop herself, “I learned that one from Marcus!”

“He train you our something?” You say, and Echo perks her head up, a confused and then mischievious look.

“Oh, no. I was just watching.”

“You a copycat like Saph?”

She shakes her head, “No, Fox says that she's a mirror, we just like to learn neat things that we see. That fire thing was good for that monster of yours. Oh, and I didn't tell the others that it was yours. By the way, did you know that Gertrude drank Roseanne's blood?”

“She wha-” You begin to react, but withdraw for a moment of thought. Right. Bones aren't supposed to be able to eat souls... Friend said that a while back. But she drank the blood... Could that have been a medium to... make it easier?

Echo leans in, looking you at in the eye, “Say, you're why we're going to the parade, right? I'm from around here, well not here but there, Chicago. You know, I've never actually been to the parade before. How exciting, thank you.” Her face goes through a bunch of expressions and for lack of a better word you have to call it cute.

You find yourself nearly petting her on the head, but you restrain yourself, thinking against it.
“Yeah... No problem. It was Emilia's idea anyway. Then again, it was between that and a fashion show.”

Echo stares at you, the fox-hand comes up, ~Asher likes Anna Swan!~

“That's really annoying, you know?”

Echo smiles, a knowing grin, “I know.”
>>
>>34651474
> By the way, did you know that Gertrude drank Roseanne's blood?
How the fuck does the fox girl know that
>>
>>34651474

There's not even a rustle as Marcus appears at the edge of the brush, walking on over to the two of you by the riverbank, “Hey cupcakes, I'm going to move the door again, call it a paranoid habit but you two best get back on through, I'll be in soon as I find a good spot.”

You head on back to Chicago, a surreal step through the door in the forest to the apartment complex.
It's sometime in the afternoon, you still got some time to fuck around. But little miss Echo is following after you, likely she's going to follow you wherever you guy, like it or not.

Anyone else ever actually been in one of those places?
I used to go all the time. There was one down the row from my middleschool and I'd go in there and they'd talk to me about the different properties of crystals and read my aura and shit and then I'd go to subway a little further down the road. It was fun.

Wiccan is good aligned. Asher is neutral leaning towards evil at best.

And don't say "alignments a shit DnD shit!!", because that's not what I'm talking about. This quest has a karma system thing. Asher can't get heroic/good summons/magic because he's an asshole. Good people aren't going to get evil summons/magic.

With Echo in tow, you head on outside looking for some kind of witchy shop. There's places like that right? You've heard of them before back in high school at least. The kind of joint that would have Tarot cards, spiritual stones and other shit that would've been insanely cooky before. Well now? It's more like another kind of science, isn't it?

Echo follows close enough for association, but far enough that you don't actually need to talk to her. You find that the Zeitgeist apartment's area actually isn't too bad of a place. Could be worse. There's the occasional grafitti here and there and the occasional sagging black man on the street but her, shit could be worse, they could be trying to rob you in broad daylight.

After a while, Echo increases her step, and puts in a word, “Hey, so where are we going anyway?”

You look at her, and she smiles, raising her hand. With a roll of your eye, “Some spiritual witchy shop I guess. Just gotta find one first.”

Echo seems to think for a moment on that, “Huh. We should ask Saph about that. She does wicca, you know?”

You stop fast in your tracks. Goddamnit, she's right. You about face, and walk right back to the apartment. Saphira gives you the directions and you're on your way to.. a place. Apparently most witchy stores have been getting closed down for various reasons by the government. At this point, it's almost an underground trend kept on the hush.

For one reason or another though she knows a place and she sends you there.

On the way you discretely borrow from an ATM and hail a damn cab, walking's for chumps.

In a back alley according to your instructions you walk down a little stairwell to some kind of basement door. There's nothing discerning it from any other back alley drugdeal. You follow the instructions that Saphira gave to you.
>>
>>34653103

“Three knocks for the rule of three, then wait three moments before saying blessed be.”

You knock three times, wait three seconds, lean in and then say the password. A shutter slides open. “What do you come here for?”

Squatting down, you peer into the shutter a bit, “Oh you know, get an aura reading, maybe some taror cards, that kind of shit.”

“Who sent you?”

“A lady in blue.” You cut the shit and snap your fingers, showing the illumination of the nerves in your thumb. Saphira told you that they're in the know as far as real magic is concerned.

The shutter instantly closes, deadlocks are unbolted and the smell of burning incense wafts through the door as it opens, “Come in,” a woman in blatantly mystical garb hums from the counter.
You step in, and are greeted by the presence of many dangling wares, spiritual stones on display, various wands and even a few staves among other things. You look back at the door, a bit perturbed that the woman got behind the counter so fast.
A black cat looks back at you, “Mind yourself, lest I cross your path.” The feline says with a slight growl.

“Solace, mind them. Our blue darling sent them.” The woman from behind the counter ushers the two of you forward, “Blessed be, how do you find yourselves? I am Dorothy, and this is Solace, my familiar.”

“I go by Faust-”

“And I'm Echo!” Your companion steps forward, sniffing out all the wares with shimmering eyes.
>>
>>34653129
With a sniff, you push back a sneeze. Place makes your eye water. Astral perception reveals that this place is charged to hell, lots of crazy shit hanging around here.

“Faust, Echo, it's so nice to meet you. How's Saphy doing, still fighting the good fight?” Dorothy leans over the counter, a wide grin on her older face. She's got some years on her but she's got a strange bewitching beauty about her. Hell, you wouldn't mind if she turned cougar on you.

>>34653159

You play it kind of smooth and saunter up to the lady at the counter, “She's doing well, though us new folks may try her patience a bit-”

A sudden hiss from Solace, causing you to look back as he's licking his lips, fur raised on his back, and another hiss. “Too close,” he growls.

Dorothy waves it off, “He doesn't much like new people, feline personality, dog guardedness.”

You nod, for a momemt, swallowing a bit as the cat's stare actually manages to be unnerving. A step back and the demonic growling ceases. He kind of reminds you of someone...

“So, uh... I didn't really know what to expect from a place like this.”

“What are you practicing? Are you an Evoker, Invoker or do you use chakra?”

“Excuse me?” The terms confuse you for a moment. “I'm not quite familiar.”

“Evoker, your nerves glow, you externalize magic. Invoker, you internalize magic, bones glow. Chakra, you use your own body's natural ki, chi, aura, whatever your preferred term is. If I know what you are, then I can see to it that you find something relevant.”

“Evoker, I prefer to just say Nerve though.” You show the glow of your eye, deep from the optical nerve.

“Nice color, you've been touched by something, haven't you?”

A smirk from you, more ways than one you muse, “I use pyromancy and dabble in the summoning of mythology, got anything good for that? Oh, and where do I pick up one of those?” You point a thumb back to Solace, another low growl from him.

“Oh, a familiar?” Dorothy smiles, “You need to be close to an animal, involve them in your work. Something changes in them from the touch of the spirit world and they're blessed with new awareness and even their own gifts.” Dorothy throws a little smooch out to the feline, “My Solace has a bad temper but he's an amazing assistant in my work. He even doubles as a bouncer and doorman.”

“Right.” You nod. It's something to consider, even if you've got enough on your plate regarding summons as it is. “So about the goods.”
>>
>>34655191

“Oh, right. This way.”

Dorothy steps from behind the counter, and Solace hops up onto her shoulder, keeping one golden feline eye on you.

Giving him a look in the astral, you see that his aura is actually heavily concentrated. A pitch black body with shadows running off it in deep rivulets, shining white eyes in a stark contrast. Dorothy's own aura appears.. strangely subdued. You'd expect there to be more, but for all in all, she appears as a normal person. How... odd.

{Rude to stare you know.} Solace's astral voice passes over your conscious mind.

“What are you talking about? You've been staring at me the whole-” At this point you realize that you're trying to argue with a cat in an underground witch's shop. What are you doing with your life?

Dorothy runs you over a great many trinkets as you define your purpose. When it becomes clear that you deign to use destructive magics she shifts focus to small ritual daggers and other little trinkets flooded with ill intent and equally malicious karma.

Of note, you find a small medallion of a serpent coiled around an apple, A wand of blackened poplar, a ritual dagger with a crossguard, a selection of flint stones, an actual human skull, and fingerbones.

That very last bit is conspicuous as fuck.

“Well then, what'll it be?”

You notice that there's no price tag on... well, any of this shit. “What's any of this going to cost?”
>>
>>34655215

To that, Dorothy smiles, “I provide service for a service. In this world stockpiling hard money is foolish. We're on borrowed time till this age comes to its end. I grant you my service in exchange for a service in the future. Nothing like a first borne child or anything.” Dorothy returns to her counter, leaning in a bit too low for the cut of her dress.

You almost like the idea of a “Service.”

Buff to a future summon, probably some kind of demon or something recommended by Luci

Obvious Fiend buff

Honestly, any of them except the flint is good. If I had half a clue about what the dagger actually did, I'd probably be more willing to throw my vote behind that. It sounds like it's some kind of general power boost to spells that take a while to do?

It'd probably be pretty good for when we start having to do human experiments and big crazy shit with Alchemy and Summoning.

I love how there was a whole big argument about whether or not sex magic was related to Lucifer or not and then we walk into the shop and get offered a medallion with a snake curled around an apple (Lucifer as fuck) that's charged with literal sex magic.

>>
>>34655745

Blood sacrifice to empower spells.
>>
>>34655759
The skull and the fingerbones actually come separate.

The skull bears the lingering apparition of a murdered scholar. It scrutinizes you and tells you to put remove your hand from his profile when you touch the skull.

The fingerbones seem to each be from different people. They're inscribed with runes and seem to be a perverse method of fortune telling. Dorothy tells you that they should be able to alter fate in the hands of the right person.
>>
>>34655705
What its charged with might have nothing to do with an actual connection to Lucifer, but you're right, signs point to yes.

Okay, so based on the number of multiples, I want to let you guys know that Dorothy assures you that her favors are often toward the procurement of new merchandise. Many of these items are mage-made and thus need their involvement.

When she deigns to collect a service Asher will feel an annoying buzz and be contacted. Should he fail to perform the service... well let's just say that there tends to be a streak of ill fortune to be had afterward.

Sorry for late vote, just got home.
>>
>>34651268
Can we summon a shade then lock it in an astral prison, let it out someplace nearby whenever we want, and get a free 'Get out of any level of injury instantly' card?
>>
>>34656529
When you summon yourself it's not a shade, it's a doppleganger.
It knows everything that you know- including how to get out of astral prisons.

You can't trick yourself.
>>
>>34656614
What if we have someone else seal the doppelganger in a gem or something set to release it in the event of real Asher's death?

It'd be like a pseudo-phylactery.
>>
>>34656641
That would assume that we wouldn't be able to break out.
And I don't think Doppelgänger can be inprinted in gems
>>
>>34656641
YES!

We could even use the medallion for specifically this purpose.
>>
>>34656713
It doesn't have to be a gem. It could be a magic circle array in a basement somewhere.

The only important factors here are that it can contain the doppelganger and that it can release it conditionally.
>>
>>34656720
That medailion would trigger as soon as we blink
>>
>>34656641
The biggest problem with this is that it makes it so we can no longer Blink at all while we have the pseudophylactery active.
>>
>>34656750
Wouldn't that Phylacterie be triggered as soon as we use our blink?
>>
>>34656751
We leave the medallion at our home base, or someplace discreet. Tie the binding on it to our life-force, the moment we die the doppleganger is let out.
>>
>>34656785
We literally die as soon as we blink.
We would seal our mobility
>>
>>34656751
That's actually part of the caveat of a case like that. Blink requires the original to die for the doppelfanger's effect to trigger.

>>34656641
This idea seals away blink and effectively makes it so that Asher respawns somewhere on death. Not a bad idea but it could screw anyone that's counting on Asher being somewhere.
>>
Medallion sucks. Dagger and Wands till the end.
>>
>>34656854
Medallion is for summoning, wand for pyromancy, and dagger for blood magic / the more fucked up parts of alchemy.

All three are good. Wand is probably the biggest immediate power boost, dagger the biggest long term, and medallion could let us get a nice summon bound earlier than normal, thus being the medium term power boost.
>>
>>34656821
Eh, we could use it to get someone off our tail.

>Give Medallion to Emilia
>If we don't come back, break open the medallion.
>>
>>34656908
Wand can also be used for summoning.
>and the rage of old lands
Sounds kinda up our alley for summons
>>
>>34656821
>it could screw anyone that's counting on Asher being somewhere.
I'm pretty sure that Asher being dead would screw them over just as bad as him respawning in a cave way far away.
>>
>>34656920
...this gets around it.

If we die, it won't matter, because that's not the condition. The condition is that the medallion gets busted open.
>>
>>34657008
That's not how our blink/doppelgänger works
>>
>>34657008
We would still seal our blink with that.
And I don't think that's worth it
>>
>>34656920
>>34657008
Bad idea. If it takes too long for the doppel to absorb Asher's soul, then it goes to the death layer and is permanently gone.
>>
So what's going on Dran?
>>
>>34657093
Bingo. That's the second caveat.

>>34657175
Almost done.
>>
Is there a quest with more ability spergin going on than this one?
>>
>>34657228
Can we ask for an aura reading when we're done with our purchase? Plenty of people have been curious about it, and here Asher can ask about it with a wry smile. It's funny, we're around people that can see auras all day, but that's something people would do here before magic.
>>
>>34657228
It takes a dopple 3 seconds to kill itself, right? Then the timer is 5 continuous seconds of us being dead.
>>
>>34657228
What did we even buy now?
>>
>>34655241

You consider things for a moment, everything honestly looks like it could have some use, and you feel that testing it all out could prepare you for future bargains like this.
Pointing out the items you want, Dorothy readies a contract upon vellum with the appropriate list of items for trade. The medallion, the wand, and the dagger. In exchange for those items you'll be granting her three services of her choosing.

Signing off on it, Dorothy immediately gives you a wink, “I'll be asking for my first service right now.”

“Already?” You squint your eye in scrutiny.

“You'll always be polite in my shop, and courteous to me and other patrons.” She gives you mystic smile, and you already feel obliged to return it.

“Certaintly my dear Dorothy, as you ask of me.” What the hell just came out of your mouth? You grin with subdued worry.

“Don't worry, it's only for when you're in here.” She gives a light chuckles, and holds up two fingers, “And since you're trusting me enough to commit three services on your first trip, as well as a discount for a friend of Saphie's, your second service is to give me a kiss on the cheek.” She turns her face, and points to where she wants it put. You lean over and give her a kiss, thus completing your second service.
“The last one, I'll save for when I need it, a pleasure doing business with you.”

Echo finally comes up to the counter, with a small trinket from the far east. A yin yang symbol portrayed as two foxes chasing each other's tails. “I like this one a lot but... I'm not sure if it's really right for me.”

“And what sort of token might you be looking for?” Dorothy leans against the counter, eyes full of interest and ears quite open.

Echo describes kind of what she's looking for, and Dorothy seems to get the picture, “Alright, I'll see if I can't get something like that by next week. See me then, okay?”

Echo smiles, “Thank you, that's really awesome of you!”
>>
>>34657419
Debt. No matter what we just got, it came with a nice hunk of debt.
>>
>>34657577
And two of them are just payed off. HOLLA!
>>
>>34657608
Well that was easier than expected
>>
>>34657569

Before you leave, Dorothy tells you that since you've been to her shop, performing the routine on any door will take you back here... However. Her shop is not a sanctuary and to send you back to a place it must remain connected for the visit.
In other words, Solace will not open the door if he senses that you're under threat.

“Oh, and if you continue business with me, I'll see about getting you a dimensional bag.”

With that, you leave with your bartered purchase. A little bag full of items with ineffably bad karma. When you walk out, it turns into a Jewel bag, a local grocer.

Maybe next time you'll just go in for an aura reading?
>>
>>34656641
The problem with that, even if it would work, would be that that would be the us from the time it was summoned, not the time we died. Still better than the alternative though
>>
>>34657726
>dimensional bag
Oh god I want it
>>
>>34657734
It's possible to merge the mind with the soul. That would be hard to do, but it would fix that problem.
>>
>>34657682

She's a businesswoman. Good deals, and every mage that passes through is an investment as much as a patron.

Should also mention that she's willing to free up services if she's given curious items.
>>
With MF at Adept, it can, with a ritual, apply its effects to any object permanently.

>>
>>34658231
And now step into that circle
>>
>>34657726

You make it back by dusk, and you're tired enough of Echo talking your ear off to fall right into bed, the items of malicious power gently put to the side. You'll deal with them later, everyone's going to head to to the parade pretty early anyway...

You're woke up with a change of clothes thrown onto your bed, a shower later and you're wearing something less uniform to stagger up your association with the others. All black turtlenecks and jeans kind of give a hint of cult personality, doesn't it?

You all make it there early enough, and you drop mention of the fingerbones to John whom kind of pales at the thought. “I'll consider it maybe, old son. That kind of thing seems like worse luck than it ought to though. Ever heard of a monkey's paw? Find shit like that there.?”

To be honest, you did see a few dried animal parts but you'd rather not get John any more spooked of the place before he meets good ol' Solace.

Emilia sticks close to you, though never really looks you in the eye. Neither of you have really talked about the other night but it seems that she's forgiven you. Or maybe now it's pity? Either way, she's there for you, like she's always been. Saph and Marcus almost replicate the gesture as a couple. Hydra's left back at the apartment to tend to her own devices. The little one doesn't complain much or really seem to have an opinion... on anything.
You can tell that Emilia cares about the kid despite her origin. Hell, even Saph's treated the clone nicely. It's... Kind of strange but, you're kind of starting to like the kid too. Not a mean bone in her body, just mild mannered and willing to help everyone out.
>>
>>34658249
Now, I'm gonna throw some virgin's blood on you and start chanting. It's totally innocuous, don't freak out or anything.
>>
>>34658247
I'm pretty sure that would break the wand immediately
>>
>>34658249
And now speak you True Name.
>>
>>34658281
You all make it to the front to get a pretty good view of the procession. There's a bunch of dorky historic floats with the odd bit of injun dancers. It's really kind of an odd parade but it's nice to be doing something normal for a minute. In retrospect, you've probably killed yourself around twenty times or more in the last couple days... Oh yeah, crazy stuff.

As the parade makes its way around, there's a sudden explosion from a nearby building on the upper floors, fire bursting out and glass falling onto the crowd underneath.

You watch the scene unfold coming as close to being stunned and dumbfounded as you possibly can. Saphira closes her eyes and looks away, some of the others do the same while Toy and Marcus stare on eerily unflinching.

Through the astral, you can see something drawing inward, fuzzing up the sight layer some. Makes you think of a bone's consumption, or maybe it's from all the people watching?

You look over at Saph and Marcus, looking for either a go ahead or something. Marcus gives you one look and it tells you to stay put. Her lowers his body as though to pray. With everyone's eyes on the destruction, his body dissolves into smoke and travels along the ground.

Low profile doesn't necessarily mean inaction, does it? Blink is too flashy to move in, but Morgan or Donneth could do something about whatever's up there.

Emilia swallows, wishing that she could do something discrete to assist.

(Morgan, do you know anything about this?) You propose the question to the astral.

{Why would I know about a fire in chicago? Perhaps a cow kicked over a lantern.}

(This isn't funny Morgan) You curl your fists. Exposure now means you'll have to run again. You don't want to fucking run anymore. You don't want to run, and you don't want to be imprisoned.

{Oh but it is. As I said before T'is a crime to have power and not use it, no? You deign to not save those poor people from the shards of fallen glass? Such ill karma ones that have restraint show.} The Fae's voice is as mocking as it is condescending, though not to you. It's Saph that she's speaking to.

“Please...” She shudders down to her knees, her pretty face contorted and morose, “I can feel them. Please make it stop.”

Morgan just laughs throughout the astral. {I abide by your word so that Faust isn't put to blame and neither are you lot. I abide so far as that, yet all else is by my will.}

Basically:

She's specifically using her power because she believes that to have power and not use it is ridiculous. She's generated a scenario in which Zeitgeist's members could make a difference by using their powers and thus forcing them to choose between action and inaction.

Her point is, "Use the power, to do not is sinful." She's basically saying this to Saph as something of a challenge.

She's also made sure that it can't directly compromise them unless they choose to act as you and the others have been instructed.

I don't really care too much, but it's good to keep Morgan on her toes so...
Catch her on a technicality. Saph is an empath, so she is harming one of our allies by causing pain in front of her. I think the whole "no harming allies" clause is still in effect.
>>
>>34660264
I don't think that applies.
It would make her unable to attack anyone within the Saph's empath range
>>
>>34660264
I'd rather not bar our summons from fighting in Saph's presence.

Easy. We can freely drop/add people to ally status. If we need to fight in front of Saph, we drop her as an ally. Morgan will still be unable to attack her, since she would harm us by violating our contact.

True, but there's probably a limit to how much shit our allies will let us pull before they start wondering if we are more a liability than an asset. If someone's summon pissed Asher off, we'd probably blame the summoner alongside them.

You make to suck it up and start to walk away from the crowd, the screams of victims and Saph mixes in with them. Some of the other Zeitgeist members carry her off to a safe distance. You rendezvous with them, silent and a bit distraught. You aren't much sure what you can really say at a time like this.

Morgan chuckles in the ether now and then, riding the example that she's forced Saph under. The pain the little lady endures.

After recovery, Saphira beckons you forward and you oblige her, “Look, I'm sorry” you start, but she raises a hand for your silence.

“Please, it's okay. I know that you aren't involved with that mess, and I know that your ally is possible, I can't hold you responsible. Marcus will do what he can as the most discreet amongst us and accidents happen.” She sighs, “I just want you to be aware the power that you give to these beings is damning the rest of us. Yes they are powerful, yes they are old, but now is the time that we create new legends.” She takes a deep breath, closing her eyes for a thought.

“What I want you to ask yourself, Faust. Is- Do you want to bring back the old, or become the new?” She opens her eyes, “I want to become a gentle goddess, Saphira. Are you content being some toy for the legends of the last age?”

As Saph stares at you, goosebumps prickle up at the back of your neck.

She wants to become a goddess? What the hell is she evem talking about? A human ascending to divinity? What- “Is that possible?”
>>
>>34661419

“Of course it is. It's just a matter of how you carry yourself and the choices you make. Draw the difference however. Prophet, Sage, Ascetic, Hero, Villain, Immortal, Spirit, Diety. We can make ourselves in the images that were never before imaginable. We can make the world a better or worse place.” Her eyes shift, regarding the astral, “And those with power should use it, right? I choose the wisdom of when.”

{Oh? She's got some spirit.} Morgan laughs, {Asher, I like her. So ambitious.}

Ambitious, that's the word. The others seem a tad thoughtful of the situation suddenly. Such a prospect after all.

The question is: what would you become?

>>
>>34662859
Typing this gave me a thought. In theory, could we construct a badass bone-tier body through alchemy then transplant our soul into it, therefore keeping our nerve powers while also gaining some of the physical benefits a more robust combatant would enjoy?
>>
Just throwing it out there, but acquiring some types of life magics would make this Alchemy transhumanist stuff way easier.

Flora branches into Viromancy, bacteria stuff, Faunamancy, toximancy, etc.

We don't technically -need- it, but Alchemy does get stronger with every additional spell we have.
>>
>>34662921
Yes. This was one of the things that people kept bringing up in favor of Alchemy.

We could start doing that kind of thing once we get 1 more LIMIT point put into Alchemy.

What we'd be doing is use summoning to create thoughtforms (or summon mythos things if we want to get risky), and then use Alchemy to make the parts real and attach them to Asher.

Though, we're not going to want to start out on Asher himself. We're going to need to test it on some other people first.

Transferring the soul would be way harder than just modding the body the soul is already inside. Blink is a weird thing, soul transfers aren't normally that easy.

For example, we could summon up Balor and try to steal his eye. If we manage to pull it off, we could implant that eye into Asher's empty eyesocket.

That would give him a death-gaze spell as a result of having the eye. It'd result in burn gain when he used it, but he could totally use it.

It's supposed to be a lot harder to gain LIMIT points now, so it'd probably be better to just focus on Alchemy.

Technically it just said that we wouldn't gain LIMIT from some of the things that previously would give us LIMIT, likely meaning that we just wouldn't be getting any more freebies from training with Saph / drug trips / other simple shit. It's not that we're getting less, it's just that there aren't going to be freebies.

You're right, though. Most of the points really should be going into Alch and Summoning.

Materia Firma is a personal favorite of mine, though, and it hitting Adept would be such a good thing... Oh well...

As a long term late game goal though I think it is a good idea. Alchemy first then summoning then getting into some good life magics.

>W will never get Materia Firma to Adept
It's a shame, it's a major component in most of our spells and it's THE component of our magic for physical defense.

I'd support it getting a fraction of the limit points we gain. Something like every 4 points we get, we throw 1 into MF.

Do we really need to focus on Summoning anymore? The only solid thing we really want from it is summoning Lucifer; every other thing we said we wanted is done, right? If we get a good shot at some things we should take it, but I don't like roundabout methods that will waste LIMIT anymore, and that's what an investment into flora sounds like.

One more bump to alchemy, then I'll back you.

Here's hoping Dran sees this if he checks the archives later.

Added Blink to the cantrips and added a new magic items section with our loot.
