Previously:
San Diego is wiped out by a tidal wave, a young man caught in the deluge as the city is erased by what some might consider the very wrath of god in a world with a sky of endless colors. Snatched from the brunt of the wave, the young man faces an inhuman creature of humanoid form that strikes out his eye to deliver onto him the gift of magic by means of the followers.

Praise be to Susej they say. These followers.

Selfish in his means of survival, a young man rallies with these people for his own safety as the government seeks to keep the truth of the world under wraps, that magic exists and that people like the followers are throwing it into chaos.

Sent on a mission to liberate people captured for conscription based on their awakening to magic, he journeys with others to meet with a woman planted for this very purpose, finding adversity on the way.

Having left a trail all too easy to follow, he's been captured and taken to the very place he'd been looking to gain access, though not exactly on his own terms...

Recently rescued by unknown allies, the young man takes on a new alias “Faust” to help him lay low.

You are Faust, welcome to Over(human)Limit S2

Hey Dranzy. What silly shenanigans will we get up to tonight?
Will we daughteru heal-bot?
>>
>>34632013

The old woman's smile had an energy, a vibrant glow that undermined how she had once appeared. The deep set leather wrinkles and ancient stare have been replaced with bright eyes full of vigor and beauty.
Echo had been hushed by Marcus while only you and he knew what transpired out in that wood.

Marcus stayed behind for the moment passing off the renewed woman to Saph's custody. The affair was done without drawing attention to the murder. He'd come after he relocated the door again.

Gertrude offered you a wink and Emilia put herself between the two of you. Though ignorant of what went on there was a certain murderous karma on the air, a tip to the sensitive that there's malice hanging about.

Saphira takes the woman off alone to speak with her and you're almost inclined to warn her against being alone with the woman. This danger, that merry predation haunting her feature. Echo stays away from her, Fox watching from the astral.

Regarding Gertrude in the Astral, you see a black blot in this plane of existence centralizing on one thing: A red hourglass with bloody sands ever so slowly trickling. As you stare, many eyes open up to stare back at you, snapping you back to reality.
Is it just you or does it seem that people know when they're being looked at in the astral?

Henry comes limping back with the little Hydra supporting him, taking him to an apartment assigned to her for further operation.

Eventually you arrive back at your apartment and Emilia's with you again as the two of you sit in an empty living quarter. She sits close to the door, ready to leave or ready to fight.
Leaning against the wall, she looks at you languidly, “So. Your... thing was out there. What happened?”

You tell her Donneth's report. What he was doing. How Gertrude got injured and he turned away. Roseanne's gone and Gertrude's younger.

Ask.fm suggests shades are on the menu. A shade of Asher summoned by Asher, to be precise.
>>
>>34632119
As much as I don't see it happening. That'd be an interesting turn of events by Asher.
>>
>>34632126

“Are you scared? Saph put the rule back on that we couldn’t hurt each other...”

“I'm more worried that they're going to let a freak like that walk around scott free. Roseanne relied on her, saw her as a friend.”

The two of you are quiet after that and you begin to wonder what's happening with Saphira. If Gertrude somehow gets Saphira... Or if she destroys the door on this side... You'd all be trapped with a killer bone. What's worse, you and Emilia are the most experienced people here. Could you honestly defend yourselves if she went truly berserk?

Programmable Wisps.
Fire halo.
Lava generation through either Geo+Pyro or Alchemy.
Ice board (chair)
Shade of a living person

Meh. We need to get a good focus before we even bother.

One thing you forgot is to test the range at which our summons can operate. We need to do that and we can test it simultaneously with other magic. Just send the ravens off.

>Programmable Wisps.
explain
>>
>>34632644
Basically, they're thoughtforms with air bodies. Kinda like golems made out of aerokinesis but programmed by summoning the same way Knight is a fire golem thoughtform thing. Anyway, the Wisps would be Asher's Fiend spell in remote control form so that he could hit things without needing line of sight. He summons a few Wisps, they home in on an astral signature, and then they self compress and detonate.
>>
>>34632722
To be honest that sounds extremly ineffecient.
>>
>>34632744
You can pre charge summons.
>>
>>34632757
That would still be a one use thoughtform summon for one fiend.
I like the idea of charging certain items with spells more.
On ask.fm there was the example of gems
>>
>>34632789
Just breaking the physical body doesn't kill a summon.
>>
>>34632644

>>
>>34632789
>On ask.fm there was the example of gems
That was a Vein thing. She was putting hunks of her soul into the gems.
>>

>Shit we could use it with illusion and photo-mancy we could make holograms to send messages or as another mirage mirror in low humidity conditions.

>>
>>34632848
>>It's basically the power of existence, truth, and lies.|||| So is it more like having gems with already defined "spells" in it? That should make it possible for us to reduce the direct burn in fights by streching it out over "peacefull" periods
Yes. Like a gem that's infused with Fiend for example.
>>
You know what's better than these Wisp things?

Using Alchemy to make clouds of poisonous gas or acid or something and then turn that into an air golem thoughtform thing and just have it try to sit on the target's face.

Oh, you're a Bone and you ate all the magic out of my golem? Well good for you. Now the area is saturated with highly toxic gas. Hope you stacked obscure poison resistances instead of bullet/fire/other more common stuff resistance.

And Hydra is more valuable as a lab monkey for when we start doing human experiments with Alchemy.

There's no way in hell Asher's testing out his magic body mods on himself first, and the less subjects end up dead the less subjects we need to acquire.

You stare ahead at a blank television screen for a while, back against the apartment's painted white drywall. It brings to mind that you could see what's going on with Saphira and Gertrude. Might even put the blue woman's heart at ease to know that you have that kind of concern for her.
It's a matter of caution. If Gertrude turns for whatever reason and manages to take Saph out, well...

You and Emilia had best start running.

Flames lick off of your hands and coalesce into something of a window, a gateway. You focus intensely on Saphira, Emilia paying a bit of mind as to what you're doing.

“Watching” is all you say in return. She scoots over to you and the two of you look through the flame together...

Saphira sits across from the young Gertrude whom carries a wispy smile. They're having a little bit of tea to go along with the conversation. The view outside the window suggests that they're on the upper levels of the apartment.

“- I'm not judging you on why you did it. You were scared and saw her as a way to live. However I mean to tell you that we will need to forbid you from doing this to your own comrades in the future.”

“You are very agreeable considering...” Gertrude laughs, that energy still giving her euphoria quite plain as day. She dips a biscuit into her cup. “So, is this suggesting that I keep to notable targets? Because you haven't told me not to.”

Saphira lowers her head, fingers laced in thought, “This isn't the first time I've seen something like this. And at the very least you haven't fallen into madness, yet.” She shakes her head, casting off a deviation of topic. “This I so. Considering your circumstances based on your true age and use to our ranks I will permit this, and likely Marcus will permit this so long as you are under him.”

Gertrude shrugs, relaxing into her chair, crossing one leg over the other. “Well, I can abide by these terms then. Might I ask where it was that you saw this before?”
>>
>>34633252

There's a sudden stone cold silence, Saphira looks up, her eyes flicking over to your observation for just a moment, “I rather not say, it's been a while. Just stay in control and we will have no problems, understood?”

Gertrude salutes with a sarcastic grin, “You're the boss.”

You end the scrying. Well, so long as she can't go after you. Emilia wiggles away, sighing heavily.
“That's unnerving, wonder what really happened anyway?”

You shrug, it's not really your concern anyway unless it's a threat to you. Better just leave it at that. “Keep an eye on her, and don't let her catch you alone, okay?”

Emilia nods, “Okay.” She smiles a little bit.

“What?” You raise a brow.

“Nothing.” She gets up and walks out of the room, “I'm going to go check on Hydra and that Henry guy.”

“I'll probably be here.”

You watch her as she leaves, switching over to astral perception to look at her.

The mustard-yellow of her aura is... Well it's more like an earth color now. Golden brown and dark yellow. It radiates down through her feet rooting her briefly with every step. Seems like something's going on with her again...

Let to your own devices, you decide to practice a few new ideas, heading up to the roof. Better than an apartment lighting up. A breath of fresh autumn air, a slight chill brushing against your cheek.
In the distance you see the lights of downtow Chicago and even have a stellar view of the ferris wheel at Navy Pier. Maybe you could go there sometime?

You take a walk around. No one should really be able to see what you're doing from street level and most people are asleep around this time.

With a deep breath, you decide to try out something a little different. Shades are the echo of the deceased. Just a reflection of who they were in life and an empty shell when compared to the real thing.
So in theory, it should be possible to summon a shade of a real person, right?

Might as well give it a shot. Reaching deep, you concentrate on everything that you define yourself as.

Your missing eye, amazing intellect, disdain for all things irritating, and magic. Can't forget the magic.

Forming a mirror out of ice, you draw forth the image, giving it form and life.

“Mirror, mirror, see my all. Summon forth a mirror thrall.” You whisper, a crude incantation as it manifests.

Walking from the mirror is a spritual body that looks every bit the same as you right down to an amused scowl. Letting up, you can't help but smile as you finish, nerves burning something fierce from the exertion.

“Okay, so-” You begin the little process of contracting the shade when it holds its fingers up to you, ready to snap.

“Hey asshole,” It says and you stare back in sudden disbelief. “Don't you know there can only be one of us?”
He snaps his fingers and fire fills your vision, everything goes dark...

You blink your eye, the pain in your nerves still present from casting difficult magic. You could've sworn that your copy just killed you. What the hell? You look down, a corpse dissolving into your body. With a sudden startled yell, you stagger backwards, knocking down the ice mirror and falling on top of it as the remainder of the corpse vanishes.

What the fuck just happened? You touch yourself, feeling all over. You're alive. Heart's ticking, if a little fast and for sure you're breathing. Yeah, you're breathing. Okay.

Taking a breather to steady yourself after the near-death (Or was it actual death?) experience, you get back up and decide to try it again. You just.. summoned yourself, right?

A short incantation later and you create another double without the assistance of a mirror this time. It looks at you again, gives you a shit-eating smirk and blows up your head again.

After a moment, you blink and the body's vanishing into the new one again. It was faster that time, but it's weird. Just a moment ago, you were standing just over... And now you're...

You pause, considering the possibilities of this phenomenon. You were there, and now you're here. You moved from there to here.

Looking down to your hot iron nerves, the pain is getting to you, but you want to try it one more time.
Checking over the edge of the building, you see an empty alley. Not a soul down there.

“Alright, let's try this.” You grin, stepping up to the ledge, a sudden gust disturbing your balance ever so slightly.
Steadying yourself, you take a breath and focus on a spot. The double comes into being and you jump, without missing a beat, the doppleganger snaps, killing you in midair.

Your awareness shifts and no body falls, just a trail of ether on the other side flowing toward you. Sweat beads at your brow and pain sends you doubling over from the spell but holy shit you can't stop smiling.

You can teleport!

A window opens up from above, and a man yells down at you, “Hey you fucking asshole, aint no fourth of july! People are trying to sleep!”

You look up at him and he seems to be taken aback. Right, the burn. You look at your hand, still glowing pretty bright. “Hey Morgan, can you help him back to sleep?”

{Certaintly Faust.} The Fae replies, she manifests before the man and kisses him. Right after her turns around and walks back off to bed like a zombie.

“You get that short term memory?”

{Of course. What am I, some kind of amateur?} She laughs as she vanishes back to the flow. You head back into the apartment to crash on the bed. You'll get that spell going faster yet. Wonder what happens when you summon other people?

You wake up morning of the next day, Emilia's doing some kind of yoga in the living room while the TV's on. Looks like she has it on the news...

New FIEND thing?

read when you want, will repost at thread end if I'm still awake.

Fiend Torrent. It's a Fiend variant requiring a source of water nearby. The idea is that the water is controlled, flowing towards the enemy in a tidalwave. Within is a mass of constantly freezing and unfreezing "snowflakes" that explode in spikes at random points before vanishing and making room for others. Depending on the size of the snowflake spikes, it could be used to chew away at heavy armor or sunder flesh at an alarming rate.
>>
>>34634900
I really think we need to not kill Emilia (even if she comes back) with the way we are right now. We really shouldn't piss her off since she is useful.

>>

Damn.
>>
>>34635192
Okay, here's how it works.

>Asher has a cut on his arm.
>Summons Doplleganger for blink.
>Emilia smashes his brains in.
>Doppleganger becomes original.
>Original still has a cut on his arm.
>>
>>34635163
She was useful when controlled by an insane ice spirit.
>>
>>34635275
Basically after the doppleganger is summoned, it's set up to become the original. with everything set at the point up to its summon.

>>34635283
She still has all the skills she learned when infected by Fara. She's learning more skills that she couldn't learn during infection.
>>
>>34635324

>>
If you look into the magical properties of wood in Celtic mythology, you see that it's a perfect fit with Asher.

>Associations with air/water/earth/fire, sometimes more than one at a time
>"Spirit" as another thing to which wood can be aligned (Summoning)

Poplar especially is good for Asher as if focuses on Fire, Water, Spirits, and evocation.
>>
>>34635431

Again with you.
>>
>>34635530
It's always been that way, But it means that Asher uses Ice at novice rank.
>>
>>34635530
Weeks before the hiatus. Dran decided that it wasn't fair for us to have locked ourself into the worst way to do an oath.

>>34635550
It was before that.
>>
>>34635560
No, it wasn't always that way. The original boost was a +1 to all ice no matter what, but ever using it offensively would cause it to change into a -1 for all ice.

Then we learned that we could do oaths the way we have it now, where the penalty only applies for the duration of the offending action, and you agreed that we could change it.
>>
>>34635560
Hmmm...We'll need to up ice in order to do that Fiend Torrent thing, won't we?
>>
>>34635643
That's kind of what I meant.

>>34635687
Upping Water is upping Ice.
>>
>>34635687
Or just not use Ice for offense unless it's the only thing that can possibly hurt the target because, really, why in the world would we use the spell that takes a -1 penalty to all offensive use when we have a veritable swiss army knife full of deadlier shit?

And if we absolutely need ice damage, no other thing will work, why aren't we just using a summon? I don't understand why you like this Fiend Torrent thing.
>>
>>34635702
's what I meant.
>>
>>34635737
Because it's an AOE that has more killing power behind it than pretty much every other FIEND spell we have?
>>
We should see about getting some more summons since we have some spare time, and we have Adept so we have a lot more options to choose from now.

Donneth and Morgan are both pretty useful, but there are some niches that they don't fill that well. For one we could use a good frontliner, something or someone who can handle themselves in melee and keep Bones and Veins from closing the distance on us.
>>
>>34635800
It'll never have more killing power because of that penalty.
>>34635822
An Ifrit would be good for that.
>>
>>34635800
It doesn't have more killing power behind it and it never will in the way you keep describing it. On top of that, it has nothing to do with the Fiend spell in any way beyond being AoE. It's more of hydrokinetic woodchipper, so at least think of a better name.

If you want it to work, don't make it use ice, make it use MF+Hydro(water only, maybe steam)

Also, that you keep saying Fiend in all caps is annoying and I wonder why you're doing that.
>>
>>34635822
I don't think a 'frontliner' is ever going to keep a Bone off us. We need to rely on interference to keep a bone away since they can absorb any sustained magic. Positioning, distraction, impediments, sensory spoofing.
>>
>>34635822
Summons aren't going to keep bones off us because they'll just eat our summons for power.
>>
>>34635935
Maybe if we can make something that would be toxic to eat
>>
>>34635961
Or that idea from earlier about making a toxic acid golem thing that will still kill them through mundane effects even if they eat the magic animating it.
>>
>>34635961
We could just throw together a bunch of bullshit and have them eat it to ache the hell out of them
>>
>>34635906
I'd rather have traps, positioning, impediments, sensory fuckery, teleportation, and some badass heroic fucker with a spear, than just traps, positioning, impediments and teleportation if a Bone decides we're a target.

The hope is that they buy us enough time to pull something off or get some more distance, and that the threat of them at their back keeps them from pursuing us incautiously. It's a stopgap measure, but still useful.

>>34635935
Definitely annoying, but they could still be useful against them.

And it'd still be handy against Veins, and against the menagerie of mechanical monstrosities that the government is using.

You sit down against the wall while Emilia stretches and contorts her body in... enchanting ways. It's impossible for her not to notice you as she goes into downward facing dog, she wiggles her hips and you can't help but to bite your lip a little bit.

What the shit Emilia, weren't you fucking pissed just the other night? You squint your eye and focus on the television, passing glances over her nice tush and shapely calves.

The news line reads Sunday October 12th,2014.

The news features some shit about continued efforts by military personnel, Rentech industries, and even England and France to provide relief to the west coast. Seems that they're still keeping it under wraps.
There's word of a lot of accidents in LA and sudden boom of murders that's made Chicago have the second highest murder capitol in the states.

There's no word about Pahrump though before they switch over to local news.

There'll be a Fashion show throughout next week featuring Fashion by Revol Collections, Rentech Fashions, Marcel Marsouls, and Katrice Swan.
The newscaster makes mention that one of the highlights of the show will be the famous model Anna Swan, modeling for her sister's designs. You've heard of Anna Swan before. She's usually on the cover of fashion magazines that loiter about in grocery stores and convenience markets. She's a bit on the thin side though, like most models. Your eyes flick over to Emilia as she stands on one foot, rooted like a tree in the astral.

Yet Anna's face is something enchanting.

There's mention also of a Columbus day parade taking place tomorrow.
“It'd be nice if we could all go.” Emilia says out loud as she drops herself into sitting.
>>
>>34636109

“All? You mean all of us fugitives and the creepy newly young vampire and the little girl thing with thunderthighs?

She looks back at you, nearly glaring, “Yeah, I think it'd be fun.” She pulls her feet in and rests her head against her knees, “We haven't really been able to do anything normal for a while, right? Who knows when we'll be able to relax again?”

Admittedly, she does make a good point. By the date, you'd spent something like three or more months in damn solitary confinement.

What's the deal with awakeings right now? Are we still getting brownie points with Lucy for everyone we awaken? Will this new group accept the newfriends?
>>
>>34636492

Hard to force someone into a shady group like this and it'd be best to keep exposure to a minimum.
>>
>>34636573
I don't think we're still getting brownie points with Luci for just awakening people. It has to be something more than that. They have to be all "Oh Asher you da best I follow you anywhere!" and stuff.

“I'll talk to Saph about the parade, that make you happy?” You say, getting up with one last lingering look at Emilia's derriere. You smirk and find her at your back as you open the door.

“Didn't need you to ask for me.” Emilia slips on through going ahead, “Come on, we'll be late for breakfast.”

Most everyone else id finished eating when you and Emilia come in for the last servings. You catch Saph and run the prospect of hitting the parade tomorrow to help everyone settle in. Emilia brings up her own points about it and Saphira seems pretty convinced.

“All right, but I'll need to be clear that we only use our magic in public if absolutely necessary. That applies for now and the future.”

{That's no fun. Power should be used.} Morgan makes a comment through the astral.

“You will restrain yourself.” Saphira's calm posture doesn't change, her word at perfect room level.

Morgan doesn't say anything more, holding her silence.

“Faust,” Saphira looks to you, “Emilia.” A smile replaces her stern expression, “If you want to go out into the city, you're free to. I'm not holding anyone here, you know?”

Some of the others seem to get that message.

You head up for the meyal door that shortcuts this urban environment with the woods that Zeitgeist's Saphira and Marcus had fled to. You open it and see forest on the other side, it's a surreal experience if you take the time to look at it without being rushed through.

It's changed locations again, and Marcus is nearby, staring at you. “Hey there recruit.” His casual word is unusual, his foul mood slightly uplifted. “Your monster did good last night.”

You'd almost deign to ignore him, you listen for a moment for the sound of water, you feel it in the distance, through the brush. “Did he?” You say in distraction, “Surprised to hear you say that when it caused a death.

Marcus shrugs, “Doesn't matter to me honestly. Saph's the one that cares about shit like that. Besides, all of the ones that lived managed to tap a bit into their powers. When you're with me you best be understand that you're just as likely to be killed as killed. Roseanne was destined to go with Eloc or Saph, it was her fault for choosing to follow that old witch.” Marcus actually throws his head back and laughs, “Anyone that can see the astral would that old bitch was something wrong and unnatural.”

“Yeah.” You say, kind of detached. “Saw a lot of weird shit around her, but she was pretty unassuming otherwise.”

“So what're you out here for?”

“Training.”

“Pretty damn dedicated aren't you?”

“Need to do something with my time. Especially with what you want us to do. Where's the river?”
>>

Marcus points off to the distance, “About eight hundred yards that way. Careful of the wildlife, and try not to leave too many marks around here. Overwatch is determined that we're around here and I can only shake them so much in a day.”

“Right.” You start to head off, turning before a bit of brush, “Oh, and the Columbus Day parade is tomorrow. Saph wants us all to go.”

Marcus stares at you for a moment, but gives a nod. “Alright.”

You arrive at the river... Well, what to do.

Alchemy is a pseudo-scientific magical field largely to do with the alteration of things and effects and, as a result, the creation of magical items. If you said that chemistry was about physical reactions and the movement of pieces of matter, you could maybe say something like alchemy is about conceptual reactions and the movement of ideas, or something like that.
>>
>>34638863
>and, as a result, the creation of magical items
It doesn't, though. I mean, it can make magical items, but we've mainly been looking at creating mundane substances that are in and of themselves totally unmagical, mainly because magical stuff is Bone food whereas they can't feed off of mundane hazards.
>>
>>34638918
