You are Reinhold, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

The only issue at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After getting a tour of Citrine and Marius's apartment, you decided to repay them by treating them to lunch. After all, you have plenty of money to spare even without the small fortune that the King gave you.

But before you get lunch, you figured that maybe it would be a good idea to go to the bakery and get the order for Marianne's cakes taken care of sooner than later.

>Congratulations, you are now a timid LLAMA!
>Llamas are strong and hardy... but also rather skittish.
>The Princess considers you to be her friend!
>But while llamas may be majestic, they still don't count as people.

>You enter the bakery first, followed by the others... Mr. Wilhelm seems to be really surprised to see this many people enter his store all at once, but then he smiles when he sees just who it is that's come to visit.

>"Oh hey, if it isn't mister bodyguard!" he says, waving at you. "Marie's not with you today?"
>"It was the plan, but she got caught up with some stuff back home," you say, shaking your head.
>"Ah, that's a shame," he sighs. "So what can I do for you and your friends, buddy? The usual order?

"Not today," you say, shaking your head.
"Oh?" Mr. Wilhelm tilts his head. "Is the little lady on a diet?"
"Heh. She probably ought to," Nicolette laughs, "considering how she's always eating cookies a-OW!"

Ouch. Melanie just elbowed Nicolette for that little crack.

"Er..." you clear your throat, "Marie was supposed to be here with us but then some urgent business came up," you say.
"Oh, I see," Mr. Wilhelm nods. "That's too bad."
"Yeah, so I was wondering if we could order a cake for her to try and cheer her up."
"A -very- big cake," Luciana chimes in.
"Oh?" he laughs. "And how big are we talking here?"

"Hmm..." you scratch your head. "Maybe as big as a fancy wedding cake?" you say, turning to Luciana.
"That might do it," Luciana nods. "We need enough for both her and her father, right?"
"Yeah, and he eats a ton..."

Judging by how things like this usually go, the two of them won't be the only ones eating this potential monster cake.

"Yeah, just make it huge," you say, shrugging. "In whatever type that she usually gets when she's here."
"Will do," Mr. Wilhelm replies. "I'll tell Liese to get right on it... but you do know that this'll take a few hours to finish, right?"

"Haha, that's just how it is when you're dealing with the ladies, my friend!" Mr. Wilhelm says with a toothy smile. "Don't tell me you're not used to that by now? I mean, these are the same girls you came in with last month..."

And then he looks at Luciana.

"...actually, I don't believe we've met before, miss..."
"Violette," Luciana says with a wide smile. "I'm Marie's friend."
"I see," he replies. "And how about the happy-looking lady over there?"

Oh, he's talking about Citrine.

"I'm Citrine Lanzmann," Citrine says, placing her hand on Marius's shoulder. "And this is my husband Marius."
"Lanzmann..." Mr. Wilhelm scratches his head. "Where've I heard that name before... OH!" he snaps his fingers. "The artist, right?"
"The one and the same," Marius replies with an embarrassed smile.

"About the cake," you say, "would I be able to request something special on it?"

"I dunno, but I'm not the baker here..."

Wow, she's not even trying to hide the fact that she thinks your idea is absurd. And judging from their giggling, Nicolette and Melanie think so as well.

"Oh, really?" he raises and eyebrow. "Er... but I'm assuming that you want the cake done before you guys head back home for the day, right? The earliest we'd be able to have a llama-shaped cake done is tomorrow afternoon. ...one that I'd be satisfied with, at least."
"...oh," you sigh.

So much for that idea.

"But I could probably manage some kind of small decorations around the cake, if you'd be okay with that," Mr. Wilhelm says, shrugging. "Liese likes cute stuff like that, so I'm sure she'd be thrilled to work on it."

"I dunno about that," you say, laughing nervously.

She must have noticed how Elena seems to adore you.

"Well I guess I ought to get started on your fancy cake order," Mr. Wilhelm says, clapping his hands. "Come back in about... five hours or so, that should be enough time for it to be done."
"Great, thanks!" you reply with a wide smile.

Marianne's going to be so surprised...

With your dealings done with for now, you and the others wave goodbye to Mr. Wilhelm as you leave the bakery. The next stop: LUNCH!

Because seriously, your stomach is growling something fierce. Being around all that fresh bread only served to make your appetite even stronger than it already was.

Alright, your cake plan is ON!

Though it sucks that you're not able to get it shaped like a llama like you'd hoped, it's still going to be a huge cake and Marianne's sure to be thrilled so you're (mostly) fine with it.

And now Marius is leading you and the others to that restaurant that he was talking about. The more that you imagine the prospect of eating the food, he more your stomach growls... you really wish it would stop already.

"Oh no!" Luciana sighs.
"Hm?" Nicolette turns to her. "What's wrong?"
"I forgot to introduce Takamaru to that nice baker fellow..." she turns to him. "Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude."
"No, it's alright," Takamaru shakes his head. "I am not one for such... lively events, I find it more comfortable to stand in the background."
"Still, it was really rude of me and I'm sorry for forgetting you like that."

After walking for quite a ways, you find yourself stopping in front of a medium-sized building with some kind of strange writing on the signboard. Through the large picture windows, you can see people eating... this must be the place that Marius was talking about.

"Here we are," Marius says, extending a hand towards the building. "'Eastern Restaurant Kurobayashi.' It's got a pretty wide menu so you should be good even if you don't like fish."
"Fish?" Melanie turns to Marius.
"Yeah, a lot of the dishes involve fish," he replies. "But there's other meats if you don't like that. Shellfish, chicken, squid..."

Melanie seems visibly grossed out upon mention of that last one.

"Hey, it's not that bad if you give it a chance," Nicolette says, resting a hand on her shoulder. "How about we get some of that takoyaki stuff, that's pretty good."
"Tako...?" Melanie mumbles.
"It is made with octopus," Takamaru replies. "They're quite popular during the summer back in my village."
"No," she shakes her head. "I refuse to eat something like that."
"Well how about I order some and you can take a little bite..."

After letting out an exasperated sigh, Melanie leans into Nicolette's ear.

"And I'm not about to -kiss- someone with octopus breath, either," she whispers... but it's still loud enough for you to hear.
"ahahahahahaha never mind," Nicolette says with extremely artificial laughter as she takes Melanie's hand. "now let's quit loitering out here and go inside!"

You honestly feel kind of bad for Nicolette. She and Melanie have only been going out for maybe a week now and she's already completely under her thumb.

The first thing you notice as you enter the restaurant is that it's really dim. Not so much that it's difficult to see, it's just enough for you to notice. Must be for the ambience or something... a lot of the places you've been since leaving Cateno have done things like that.

The light level isn't the only thing that's noticeable about this place, the overall decorations of the restaurant are very foreign-looking. In particular, there's a lot of wood-looking material along the walls. Yeah, this place feels extremely foreign.

But in a good way.

"Good morning!" a cheerful-looking waitress says as she approaches you and the others. She's wearing something similar to what you remember the Queen of Kinsen wearing back when you met her at the party in Marconetti, and her accent is very noticeable as well. "Are all of you in a single party?"
"Yes," Marius nods. "There's, uh... seven of us."
"Alright, we'll get you seated right away."

The waitress scurries off into the restaurant, and shortly afterwards you notice a couple of guys come from the back room and push a couple of tables together. Once they're finished, the waitress comes back and guides you to your seats.

The seating arrangement is what you'd expect, the three couples among you sit next to each other, with Takamaru taking the seat opposite Luciana. And you find yourself sitting between Luciana and Citrine.

"Everyone should feel free to get as much as you want, I've got the bill for this," you announce as the waitress hands you your menus.
"I hope you know what you're in for," Nicolette says, grinning at you while Melanie giggles.

Knowing her, she'll end up ordering everything on the menu... everything except takoyaki, anyways.

"Marius, what do you think I should get?" Citrine asks.
"I'm getting the soba," Marius replies. "But it's cold and I know you don't like that... maybe you should try out the ramen?"
"Okay!" she chirps.
"Those are both types of noodles," Luciana says, sensing that you have no idea what they're talking about.

"I'm gettin' this sushi, and that sushi... ten of each to start with, you think that's enough?" Nicolette turns to Melanie.
"I guess," Melanie shrugs.
"Ooh, they have eel!" she says with an excited glint in her eyes. "Ten of those too, and five for you..."
"Eh?" Melanie flinches. "I'm not eating eel!"
"Eels are just long fish," Nicolette sighs. "And it's really good. Just trust me on this one."

Wow, she's actually putting her foot down?

"What are you getting, Reinhold?" Luciana asks.
"I dunno what most of the stuff on this menu even is, so I'm not sure," you reply. "What about you?"
"I'm getting some of the nigiri type sushi, along with chicken katsu... both of those are really good, if you were wondering."

Then she turns to Takamaru.

"What about you?" Luciana asks.
"Ebi tempura, a few pieces of chicken teriyaki," Takamaru says as he looks the menu over. He might not be able to read, but there's pictures of everything on the menu along with the list. "Maybe some gyouza, I haven't had that since I left home... unagi..."

Wow, he's really into this. Not that you can blame him, this is the food of his homeland.

If we're going to ask anyone, it should be Takamaru. Even if he's not a certified expert or anything, it's food from his homeland. He's bound to have some good suggestions.

We don't need to make him order the whole meal for us or anything, but it's at least a good idea to ask him for one thing he thinks is a must-try.

Thirded.

"Hmm..." you look over the menu. "I guess I'll just get the same thing as Nicolette. But not as many of them as she's getting, of course."

You're still going to be walking around for a good while after this, and you know better than to completely gorge yourself on strange food at a time like this.

"Hey Takamaru," you call out, leaning back so you can get a better view. "Do you think that's good? Getting a bunch of these different types of sushi?" you say, pointing to the ones that Nicolette listed.
"Hm," Takamaru nods. "I'd suggest not to get that one, it's a bit of an acquired taste," Takamaru says, pointing to a picture that says something about "wasabi." "But the tuna nigiri and unagi sushi are good, yes. I'd also suggest that you get a main dish just in case you dislike the sushi like the- er, like Violette picked."
"Katsu... alright," you nod.

And just as you decide on what you're getting, the waitress returns to the table and takes your order. As expected, Nicolette gets the most food, but Takamaru's in second place. Not too surprising though, he definitely looks excited to be able to eat familiar foods again.
