>[GOOD MORNING, DRAGOON. IT IS CURRENTLY 09:32. THE DATE IS JULY 25, [REDACTED]

You open your eyes and immediately squint against the harsh fluorescent lights suspended above the storage facility's main room, where you and your 'comrades' reside between tasks. There's surprisingly little activity today, aside from a few of those dark-skinned 'elves' bustling busily about, performing maintenance and what-not.

You shield your eyes with a clawed metal hand and disengage yourself from your 'dock' with your free hand, spinning the wheels that have long since replaced your feet before placing them on the smooth, stone floor.

You're currently known as 'Dragoon,' though you still think of yourself as Chariot, and you think you've probably got a pretty busy day ahead of you.

What?

… Strength...? She's gone missing?

You swallow down the lump in your throat and will yourself not to cry.

How do they expect you to be able to deal with something that Strength couldn't? Who or what took Strength away? Whether they call her by her real name or that stupid 'Berserker' crap, she's still a deadly opponent, and definitely not one to be trifled with.

And you know it's more difficult to take someone in alive than dead...

Maybe you're just being too negative. Maybe she ran away? Finally got wise and made a break for it? Would she really do that? Just up and flee, without even telling you?

You don't know what they did to her, but no matter what it was, there's no way she'd just run away without you. She's a good girl.

And good girls don't abandon their friends, right?

… right?

You shake your head fiercely, whipping your long, blonde hair about yourself in the process. The jagged black crown perched atop your head isn't even jostled. You need to stop... thinking.

You're afraid, of course. Afraid of what might happen to you, of what's happened to Strength, of... practically everything.

You've been afraid of something or another for a long, long time, though, so you've learned how to cope with it... mostly.

You roll out of your chambers purposefully, your goal already in mind.

Sure, you might be terrified.

Sure, you might be worried.

Hell, you might even be motoring straight towards your own untimely demise.

But that doesn't matter.

Your best friend is out there, all alone and probably up to her neck in shit.

And you just can't allow that.

You're at the armory within thirty seconds, and you're through the doors and in the Level A-3 room before you know it.

But you have A-2 clearance today.

You look around and take in all the various instruments of violence displayed proudly on their racks and shelves. The biggest things available in the A-3 armory are small-caliber rifles and pump-shotguns.

Your sword- your personal weapon, the one you've trained with for longer than you care to remember- is waiting for you in its usual spot.

>Take the sword. Why wouldn't you?

SWORD, I'LL NEVER LEAVE YOU~

Alright! TO THE A-2 ROOM!
Writing!
>>
You elect not to grab your sword, instead rolling over the spotless tile floor and to the huge metal doors with 'A-2' branded on them in big, bold letters.

You provide your identification code, and the doors slide open with a hiss, only to slam shut the moment you're through them.

The A-2 level armory is... something else entirely.

There's a whole goddamn /wall/ dedicated to rocket launchers of various shapes and sizes, and another dedicated to grenade launchers and autocannons. The third is covered in non-explosive firearms, most of them either .50BMG HMGs or 12 gauge shotguns of various makes and models, from semi-automatic to belt-fed full-auto monstrosities. Additionally, there are a number of shields and melee weapons on the same wall as the door you've just entered through.

You should probably avoid the rocket launchers if at all possible, you decide, and grenade launchers and autocannons are... probably a bit much.

WHOMPING STICKS

Okay, writing!
>>
You let out a whistle as you roll over to the grenade launcher and autocannon wall. The oldest weapon here is the M32 MGL (at least, as far as you can tell). The other things that catch your eye are a magazine-fed 25mm 'rifle' that's relatively small and compact, a humongous grenade-machine-gun, and a good old-fashioned 'man-portable' autocannon.

You don't want to make any hasty choices, though, so you roll on over to the slightly-less-huge gun wall and take a good look at the weapons there.

Lots of meant-to-be-mounted-on-a-vehicle .50BMG machine-guns, as you previously observed, most of them very ergonomic and practical, compared to the other wall's goods. There's also lots of shotguns, from the good ol' AA-12 to the belt-fed monstrosity you noticed earlier.

This being Academy City, these are all almost certainly experimental or newly-developed weapons, so you can find just about anything here.

The magazine-fed HMGs are the closest to the assault rifles you've trained with, but the AA-12 is a system you're reasonably familiar with, and the simpler grenade launchers won't be /that/ far out of your comfort zone...

The only question is, what sort of weapon do you choose? You can only carry one, you think, especially if you want to grab your sword on the way out.

A part of you really wants to try out an autocannon, but you're reasonably sure it's the same part as the one that wants to eat macaroons all day, set stuff on fire for little to no reason, and see how fast you can roll backwards through the complex.

The more reasonable-ish part of you elects to go with a shotgun of some sort. Good stopping power at close range, lots of versatility with different kinds of shells, and a lack of absurd-hugeness make a shotgun pretty ideal at the moment.

Now, which to take...

You scratch your chin with a black metal claw and consider your options.
Naturally, you can only choose one...

>OPTION 1:
Belt-fed, full-auto 'shot-machine-gun.' Extreme firepower- shreds anything in its path. Can only be loaded with slugs, buckshot, or frag rounds. Large and relatively unwieldy. Impossible to conceal in any way. HOLDS WAY TOO MANY SHELLS. Takes FOREVER to reload.

>OPTION 2:
Magazine-fed semi-automatic 'universal shotgun.' Reasonably compact, great stopping power, and can accept any sort of specialty rounds. Collapsible stock and relatively small size make it surprisingly inconspicuous. Larger-than-average capacity, reasonable reload speed.

>OPTION 3:
Revolver-type, semi-automatic, 40mm 'Elephant+ Gun.' Neither compact nor particularly large. Excellent stopping power. Can accept certain types of 40mm grenades in addition to its specially-made slugs and flechette shells. Not particularly conspicuous. Small capacity. Slow reload.

You don't even stop rolling to think on it- you just snatch your sword up as you speed by, slipping it into its scabbard in a single practiced motion.

An 'elf' glares at you as you blow past him, almost knocking him over in the process, but you pay him no mind. Their reflexes are so sharp you probably couldn't have run him over if you'd wanted to- not at the relatively-low speed you're traveling at right now, anyways.

You watch interestedly as Miku helps her sister into the spiky, vicious-looking, black metal armor that covers her arms and legs almost entirely.

“The problem with this, Mato,” Miku explains, “is that you don't have the neural or skeletal... 'enhancements' necessary for this armor to operate correctly.” She clasps something into place with a CLACK and dusts her hands. “There, it's on. How's it feel?”

Mato raises her arms above her head and holds them up for a few moments before letting them fall back to her sides with a cacophonous series of clangs.

“Heavy,” she grunts. “I can't wear this, Miku-neesan.”

Miku nods, a complicated expression visible on her face. “I made it to be able to grow with you when you get big, but the non-invasive methods just didn't work.” She sighs. “I'm sorry.”

“... What about the invasive methods?”

You sigh softly and pinch the bridge of your nose, and Miku gapes.

“... huh?”

Mato frowns. “The invasive ones, Nee-san,” she repeats. “You said the non-invasive methods didn't work. What about the invasive ones?”

“Mato... do you know what the invasive ones entail?”

Mato shrugs. “It can't be anything more dangerous than cutting your own arm off and replacing it with your remaining (non-dominant) hand,” she says evenly.

“I... no. Mato, you're my little sister, okay? I can't just go and-”

“Why not?”

You clear your throat. “Mato has a point, Miku-chan,” you say, “you're single most ridiculously-overqualified person for the job in the world, AND her older sister. This is something that could mean the difference between getting out of this alive and having the dubious fortune of not being alive to watch the world burn.”

Mato nods. “I trust you completely, Nee-san! You're the best, after all!”

Miku heaves a heavy sigh. “It'd be so much easier on me if you didn't trust me,” she laments as she moves to help Mato out of the armor.

“Wait, what are we doing now, Miku-neesan?” Mato asks, confusion extremely evident in both her face and voice.

“We can't do the procedure if you're wearing that,” Miku explains, suddenly sounding very... tired.

It's here that you decide to chime in again. “What kind of procedure are we talking about, here?”

Miku looks up at you, her fingers still deftly working to remove the armor, even without her eyes providing them visual feedback. “There's two ways we can go about this,” she says, “the first is the 'cheap and dirty' way. It would involve minimal surgery-type shenanigans- basically, we'd put the neural ports and spinal reinforcements over the skin. She wouldn't be able to remove the armor without exposing all six neural ports to the elements (which is so extremely bad that I don't even know how to explain how bad it is), and the implants wouldn't be guaranteed to stay in place... especially with the way she gets big.” She chuckles. “She wouldn't even be able to get wet without risking crazy-bad stuff happening.”
>>
Mato helpfully says, “That sounds like it sucks.”

Miku nods. “It does indeed,” she says, moving on to the last bits of Mato's armor and deftly removing them, “which is why we have method number two: the surgical way. We implant the necessary components the good old-fashioned way, anchoring them properly, using the much better and safer sub-dermal neural ports, and reinforcing your back and ribcage properly.”

Geez, that sounds... complicated.

“Can you do it, Nee-san?”

Miku sighs. “Yes... Yes, I can. And with your ability, you'd be back up and on your feet by the time you woke up...”

Mato has that determined expression on her face. “How soon can you be ready?”

>It and Fireball got replaced
Would have been nice to be told that. I, for one, do not approve. Spontanoeus Ignition was awesome.
>>
>>34589715
Dunno man, I'm not sure when it happened either, best advice I can give is check the archives or try the ask.fm.
>>
>>34589763
I dunno, it was definitely cool but I feel like we tried to spam it too often and it got a little annoying. I do wish we had a chance to use Fireball though.
>>
>>34589763
It's fine, I'm sure you guys'll roll a natural bajillion when the time is right and pull it back out of your asses as if it hadn't ever gone away.
It just doesn't click with your mind anymore, maaaaan.

>>34589788
Preach it, anon!

we TRAUMA'D our brain into thinking we're Roy Mustang during a ferocious New Guinnean BBQ
As such, our ability to spontaneously ignite things has been replaced with the ability to blow dem da fuk up
Except we don't know that yet, so we've basically just lost the aforementioned power.

You consider whether or not it's entirely wise to ask Mato's sister about whether or not her... figure will remain as-is.

Then, you go for it, because IT'S TOO IMPORTANT TO NOT ASK.

“... Uh, no, none of that stuff'll change at all.” Miku sighs. “Here I was expecting questions like, 'Why does powered armor need neural ports' and 'why does she need to be able to feel with the armor,' so I could give answers like, 'neural ports make for extremely easy and natural operation,' and, 'it's multipurpose; giving the armor a sense of touch makes it much easier to use, and by rerouting all of the sensations except for pain (because what kind of armor feels pain?) from her actual arms to the armor, it makes it like an extension of her being, rather than a heavy metal shell.'

“But, nooo, I get the questions about her butt.” Miku sighs again. “Sorry, I was just a little taken off-guard by that one. Anything else?”

You nod. “Is this reversible?”

“... That depends on how you define 'reversible', I think. I mean, sure, we could remove the neural ports and such, but removing the skeletal reinforcement is all kinds of difficult- not to mention entirely pointless. Y'know what I mean?”

You sterilize one last doo-dad, and Miku nods. “Right. Could you go fetch Mato? I don't wanna have to re-wash.”

You oblige her, and it's not long before the anesthesia's on, and you're making your way out of the room.

“Hey... Akari...”

You stop and turn to face the source of the drowsy voice, none other than Mato herself. “Yeah, Mato?”

“I just... wanted to... tell... you...” she yawns, “that I lo-ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.”

You shake your head and make your way out of the room.

Now, to wait...

I think we'll end it here for tonight! Short thread, I know, but this seems like it was destined to be a stopping point, and I'm feelin' pretty pooped.

Thanks for playing, and have a good night!

Also, be sure to vote in the archives here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Raildex
And feel free to ask questions here in the thread or in the magical land of question-asking, found here: ask.fm/EsperQuestQM

I think that's all, so, uh, yeah!

I'd like to thank you guys for being patient even though today was slow as balls, and I'd like to thank captcha for giving me numbers instead of gibberish every time today!

It's ok that it's a bit slow, college is a busy time and I know that my attention wasn't entirely on the thread either today. Mostly I'm just glad to see the Mato situation get a happy ending.

“I just... wanted to... tell... you...” she yawns, “that I lo-ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.”

Damn it QM!
>>
>>34590226
Thanks for running.
>>
>>34590268
It's simple. The next time she starts we just pull a Han Solo, "I know."
>>
>>34590268
Heheheheheheheh.

On the bright side, you're close to reaching a theme song for Mato, I think.
One of the kickass ones
>>
>>34590397
I should certainly hope so given that we're basically turning her into the Six Million Dollar Man.
>>
>>34590449
Yeah. It's a shame Iron Man's such a dark song. 'Iron Mato' is really quite excellent.
>>
>>34590486
Could just go with Back in Black maybe. What color is the armor gonna be?
>>
>>34590517
It's black. Armor modo Mato is represented by iBRS.
Still, you're not quite there yet, and there's a few possibilities.
>>
>>34581702
Shouldn't you attribute that quote to the character/organisation in Dune not the author?
>>
>>34590550
Fair enough, though I think that would be a pretty awesome song for her once she takes a level in badass, if perhaps a bit harsh for her.
>>
>>34590559
Hmm. Maybe?
I mean, they're the author's words, y'know? And if you didn't know it was a quote from Dune, it could be misleading.
>>
>>34590606
You attribute it to character comma italics Dune
