You are Lilith, fourth daughter of Lord Erwin III, King of the Grand Forest.Your child hood was filled with tales of the brave Knights that rose up and fought of the evil that once ensnared your home so many years ago, and you have decided to run away from your noble upbringing to pursue your dream of being like them one day. With your faithful pet Charmander that you have raised since you were a little girl by your side, you feel anything is possible. After a brief pit stop, you are riding towards Emerald Lake on your way to Granite Castle. Let the journey continue.

Inventory:
>A steel rapier with your father's seal etched into the hilt.
>Leather armor, with his seal around the chest piece
>A small shield, with the old crest rusted over
>Dried meat and bread
>A small sum of gold
>4 bottles of Spirits
>A red-speckled totem
>A Girafarig mount

I think we should get rid of da's seal ASAP and, at least for the time being use the old family crest
>>
>>34580359
The shield is at least rusted over, the rapier and armour seals would be more of an issue. That said we're not too rich right now so the best we can do really is probably just wear a tabard to hide the chest crest.

Also, shirking your family crest? What kind of knight ARE you?!

You awake to the morning sun already a decent bit above the horizon. Your body is sore and bruised from last night's sparring session with Charmander, but you feel the training you imparted on him will do will to allow him to focus his strength. You gaze around to see Alan still sitting opposite you around the now smouldering ashes of last nights fire. He seems to be lightly reading from that familiar tome of his, however he seems to notice you awoken.

"I took the liberty of checking the map while you had your beauty sleep. Seems there's a coastal village we can reach before noon, even given our already late start." he says with a trademark agitation. You almost prefer the sleep-deprived Mage from yesterday, always looking for the nearest place to nap. However, while a coastal fishing village would be the closer destination, it might lack all the supplies you would want for your expedition through the mountains. Crescent Port was a well-known trading city, that would more than certainly have everything you would need, but that was a ride that would take all day. Also, there was the possibility your father's soldier might already be searching such a populous city.

What's your decision?

Is the mountain wooded at all? I'm guessing not, so we might wanna try and grab some firewood before heading up and since we're currently in the forest...
>>
>>34580928
You decide its best not to agitate Alan any further in his current state, and that the risk of being caught would be too great to risk the trip. You would just have to hope that whatever no name fishing village was closest would have the bare essentials of camping equipment for you. With a gentle nudge, you push the still sleeping Charmander over onto his side, waking up the orange lizard. Judging from his groggy response, it seems he feels much the same as you after yesterday's training. After a good couple minutes of cleaning camp and preparing Girafarig to ride, you are mounted up and off on a slightly different course.

The scenery remains much the same for a good portion of your journey. The Amber Plains were not so named after their abundant varieties of flora. However after a few hours, you begin to see a shimmering expanse swell up over the horizon. As you ride closer, the mass of water begins to taken on a shiny blue-green hue, as if the endless waves of golden grass before you had just been the fitting for such a beautiful Emerald. The sight brings back fond memories of your parents and siblings visiting relatives in the various castles that adorned the far side of the lake, still well over the horizon. You shake those feeling off, as things are too different now to reminisce about your previous life. Especially if you wished to keep your new one.

The village itself is more of a collection of wooden buildings and dirt paths leading to a large away of docks encompassing a good portion of the local beach, with fishing boats dotting all around the surrounding waters. Out a few miles from shore looked to be a small island with a small forest around it, which seemed to have a lone dock attached, possibly for emergency landings. The buildings themselves seemed loosely decorated, with only ornaments made from fish bones and scales adorning the occasional door or window. (1/2)
>>
>>34581234
The most notable buildings seemed to be evenly dispersed. At the end of the dirt road stood a General Store, with a significant upstairs, seeming to doubly function as an inn. Down the road only a few buildings was another building, with a much finer construction, that was adorned with a single Blue diamond beside a red and green sphere. It seemed to be a temple of some kind. And finally, down near the water was a building attached to a dock with several small boats attached, and a large sign advertising "Bait & Tackle". (2/2)

You decide the General Store seems to be the best place to stop first. You can see if they have the supplies you need, and maybe even secure a room or two for the night depending on their rate. You make your way down the road, and dismount Girafariig before tying its reigns to a hitching post. Charmander groggily hangs off your shoulder, his legs too tired to work on their own volition. As you enter the establishment, you see a few shelves laid bare, with only the odd item dispersed between them, with an old man sitting behind a counter next to a staircase leading up. He look up from his ledge with a bright smile over his wrinkled face. "Well, hello there weary travelers. It seems Kyogre has seen fit to bless me with two new customers this fine afternoon. How can my old bones be of assistance?"

Your memories of the Lake air seem to bring you back to a distinct memory of lounging in the grounds of your Granmother's villa, having servants bring you delectable treats from the kitchens. You seem to remember them being a specialty of the local area, and the idea of a familiar taste was too tempting to pass up. "Do you have an Rare Candies?"

The old man gave a hearty chuckle. "No, missy. If I were in that kind of market, I assure you I wouldn't still be working at my ripe old age. I had no idea I had such distinguished customers, but I'm afraid you'll find nothing of the finer things in life here."

You hush up a bit, realizing you might have given away more of your status then you would have liked. You decide it might be best to peruse the rest of his wares in silence, lest your mouth betray you again. "Then we'll just take a look around..."

You walk around the shelves and displays, but most you can find is the odd sack of dried grain or dust. You manage to find a pair of bed rolls, although the fabric is worn, and they appear to be stuffed with straw. You also manage to find some blankets, which while scratchy, will do more than enough to keep you warm on a cold night. You decide the grain will keep longer than the remainder of your bread, and can be paired with your dried meat and some water to create some passable rations. You take your items to the old man and place them on the counter, and he takes a minute to look them over. "Ah, you lovebirds looking to go out and enjoy the stars, aint'cha? Tell you what, I'll save you some trouble. 2 gold for the equipment, and I'll let you have the master suite tonight free o' charge. Much more enjoyable then the lumpy ground. I'll even through in my old metal pot from my travelin' days. Plenty you can cook with a simple kettle, right missy?"

You grin and bear it. Clearly the old man's misunderstanding was currently benefiting you greatly, and it would be a shame to ruin his kind efforts by correcting him. A quick turn and smile to Alan was enough to confirm that he was also in no opportunity to pass up free lodgings for the night as well, especially given the previous night's accommodations. "Thank you, we'll definitely take you up on such a kind offer."

The old man smiles in return, asking for a name for his registry. You decide giving Alan's would be the safest, and allow him to sign. The old man then produces a large brass key, and ppoints up the stairs. "Your's will be the door at the end of the hallway. I'd offer to take you purchases up there, but my back hasn't been the same since my 50's. If that's your Girafarig outside, I can pen him in the stables out back free of charge, though. 'Fraid all we have is straw and water for it." You decide to let the old man stable Girafarig, as the remainder of the village is well within walking distance, and you can always retrieve it later if you change your mind.

You and Alan take the purchased goods up to the suite, which is frankly well below your expectations for a room called as such. However, Alan seems sufficiently impressed, so perhaps your standards are set to high. There is a large bed in the center, along with a changing screen and bath basin in a far corner. There is a wardrobe and desk, along with a fireplace, with a large rusted cauldron, presumably for heating the bath water. You store the purchased items in a heap on the bed, and decide to figure out matters of the room later.

When you arrive downstairs, you see both the old man and Girafarig are gone, no doubt being stabled out back at the moment. The sun outside indicates its still early in the afternoon, with plenty of sunlight left. What to do now?

You walk off towards the Lake's shore, and head over towards the boat launch. you get a few stares from the locals on your way over, but you are strangers in a small town so that is to be expected. The boat launch is a much less impressive building then the general store. It is mostly an open front room, with barrels of chum open and exuding a noxious aroma. The middle-aged man behind the counter seems to not notice the stench, but does make eye contact with you as you approach. Behind him seems to be a selection of fishing poles and nets, along with specialty lures.

"Anything I can help you with?" a small trace of annoyance betraying his voice.

"We're looking to rent or buy a boat, and we saw your selection out on the dock."

The man looks the two of you over from top to bottom before letting out a sigh. "You look like you've never spent a day on the water in your life, and your friend there looks like he'd keel over from sea sickness sooner then he'd row." He sighs again, taking a look out back at the remaining boats, before turning back to you. "Rent will be 3 gold a day, with a deposit of significant value. Buying outright would depend on the boat itself, but would range from..." He then proceeds to list a few figures, all of which would leave you with barely a dozen gold to your name.

"If you'd rather charter a boat, I'd recommend you speak to one of the captains. They like to hang out at the Watering Hole, after the fishing boats come in for the night, but I can't imagine their rates being much more favorable."

You say you might be back later to rent a boat, but are going to check out the Watering Hole later. You exit the Boat launch and decide that you'll pass the time until the fishing boats return at the Temple you passed by earlier. The building is well built, and seems to have a lot of time put into its construction. Upon opening the door, your here a series of bells chime on the inside, playing a soothing melody. The front room is sparsely lit but by a few candles, the windows being covered by thin drapes. The floor holds a circular blue carpet, which seems to have some inscriptions in red in language you couldn't read. On the wall in back is a single tapestry, which seems to depict an ancient sea Legend.

You only have a few seconds to admire the artwork before a lone woman enters from behind one of two curtains along the back wall. She is wearing a blue dress with a single red jewel held against her forehead by strands of silver around her head. She smiles softly at you, and goes into a curtsey. "Oh weary travelers, I welcome you into the house of Kyogre, It is both my joy and duty to assist you however I can."

You smile back at them woman, and suddenly remember the thoughts you had back to the previous day and Alan's recommendation on where you should go in life. You decide this is about a good of chance of any to ask. "I hope this isn't rude to ask, but do you know the location of a temple to Rayquaza?"

The priestess moves a hand to cover her mouth as she lets out a quiet giggle. "Oh, sweet girl. Such a question could never be considered rude. Rayquaza is leader over the Weather Trio, of which Kyogre is a member. If you seek the path of moderation, I would be more than happy to guide you. However, other than knowing Rayquaza's temples are normally built up high in the mountains, I'm afraid it has been many a year since I've felt the cause to visit one."

You feel a bit silly for asking your question, but the warm smile behind her words seems to take that discomfort away from you without a hassle. You decide that you might as well inquire on her belief, while you're here. "I'm afraid I'm new to the Weather Trio faith. Can you tell me about Kyogre?"

You see her eyes light up and open wide in excitement, you feel a little uneasy that you may have unleashed something you weren't prepared for, but before you can act on these feelings she begins talking. "Kyogre is the Ancient Legend of the Sea, and bringer of the Rains. He is cold and powerful, and cares little for the affairs of individual people. However, this does not negate his love, for he has the power to end droughts, and bring the fish back, even to a village in as dire need as this one."

She smiles kindly upon you, allowing you a chance to speak in her pause.

You decide to interject with a question leading back to your earlier question. "When you said Rayquaza's Temples were up in the mountains, what did you mean?"

She bows softly, keeping her smile. "I apologize for my vagueness. I must remember that not all are as experienced as I when it comes to certain aspects of faith. Like Raquaza himself, those who follow the Weather Trio and focus on him tend to shun the affairs of man and reach spiritual enlightenment in a secluded location high up in the air. All the more reason I've been neglecting making a visit I do not have to."

She smiled again, having answered your question, but seeing you had another brewing. You speak up again. "What is happening to the village?" She looks down for a moment, with a somber pondering that indicates while she expected you to ask, she wasn't quite sure how to phrase it.

"The village is sick. It has not rained for many weeks now, and the fish have been retreating further and further out into the lake as a result. It has gotten so bad that I hear the general store itself is even running out of dried foodstuffs, as people try to supplement what would have once been fish. We have been praying to Kyogre's aid, but he is slow to act, and even harder to garner the attention of. But our problems should be of no concern to an outsider."

She brushes off the subject, and returns to her trademark soft grin. "Although, if you truly wish to follow Rayquaza, perhaps following in the steps of another of the Weather Trio for a seesion would help you know what to expect?"

You decide to accept her offer, which promotes a look of pure glee upon her face. She quickly excuses herself behind a curtain, and returns just as quickly with a piece of jewelery clasped in each hand. She hands you a red bead similar to the one she is wearing, and to Alan she gives a similar bead on a necklace. "These are good luck charms, and are absolutely necessary if you wish to join in on one of our prayer sessions. We're meeting at the shrine on the island in the lake at midnight, when the moon is highest, and Kyogre is most awake. Please, join us on the island."

You thank her for the jewelery and turn to leave, but remember you have one last question for her. "About the Weather Trio, who is the third member?" She gets quiet for a few seconds, her smile disappearing from her face. "Groudon, and he is no doubt responsible for this drought." And with that she turned away, and went behind her curtain without a second word. As you exit into the outside, you see that sun has already begun to set, and you can see the fishing boats returning to port. No doubt the Watering Hole would be filled with patrons within the hour.

You decide to turn in the direction of the Watering Hole, asking Alan something along the way. "Are you up for a nighttime excursion to the island or would you rather sleep?" The Novice Mage merely shrugs his shoulders.

"If we went back to the room, all I'd do is reread my grimoire again. There's only so much one can learn from a book, besides, this sounds... interesting, to say the least." You take that for his approval, and continue on towards the Watering Hole. While it was no Cunning Vulpix, the waterside tavern did have a somewhat lively atmosphere to it. However, somewhat was indeed the key word here. For every fisherman pounding back another mug of ale and laughing with his crew mates, there was two more sitting quietly, somberly nursing a single drink. It was a clear visual indication on just who was succeeding and who was failing when it came to the fish business.

The tables seemed mostly separated by crew, although there was the odd co-mingling amongst the more joyous people. Alan manages to find an empty table, and sits down, seemingly content to merely observe. You turn to Charmander, making sure the orange lizard is maintaining a tight grip on your shoulders, so that you didn't lose him in this crowded environment. The captains themselves seemed easy enough to identify with their position of authority at the tables they sat, and the bartender seemed to be keeping a watchful eye over the place as he cleaned out a mug.

You decide that you can cut out a lot of legwork by just going up to the bartender. He works this place every night, so he should know who was the most reliable to provide her travel along the lake. You make your back to the bar, and place a single gold piece on the table. Father never allowed you to drink when you were at home, but surely a bartender was more willing to talk if you bought something? At least that was how it always worked in the stories you heard growing up. The bartender takes one look at the gold coin, then back at you. "Awful lot to be overpaying for a drink, little lady."

"Maybe I'm paying for more than just a drink..." You say as you take your hand off the coin, hoping that sounded as sly as it did in the stories. The look on the bartender's face informs you that it did not. However, he takes the coin and pours your out a glass or red liquid from a rather nice looking bottle. "That should split the difference a little. Anything else I can help you with?"

Drink up sure, but we best not be getting even tipsy on account of having things to do later
Do princesses drink when growing up? Thinking about it they probably would be given wine, at special occasions if nothing else. I'd like to believe we're not a lightweight and can handle the drink we were compelled to buy

You take a sip from your glass, tasting the sweet wine, of surprisingly nice quality. You realize that the overpay could probably get Alan a drink with what was left over. "Could you send a waitress over my friend? He could use a drink as well."

He nods to one of the bar maidens, and she goes over to take his order. You turn back to the bartender, and he looks back at you. "Well, what can I do for you?" You smirk, maintaining your cool demeanor. You felt like a cunning rouge in a story the knights would read.

"I need passage; for me, my Charmander, my friend, and a Girafarig. Someone reliable, who's worth what I'll pay. And who might be trusted to forget I was here and where I went."

The bartender thinks for a second, before looking up from the mug he was polishing. "That's quite a unique request, just by the fishing boat size required alone. I know that Odo has been on hard times lately, maybe he might be interested in making a longer trip, and being quiet about it. However, you might want to avoid him until morning... he's been acting odd at night."

The bartender kind of shrugs. "Sunken, stand-offish, seems to just be depression. Apparently he's been turning to religion recently to help with it, but times are hard for everyone."

You decide to enjoy the time you have until the meet-up, and decide to drink away your time, chatting it up with the bartender until its time to leave. You have him point out Odo, who is a small unassuming man, with bronze skin and a pencil mustache. He's mostly just mumbling to himself the entire time you're there, cursing under his breath as he fiddles with his drink. However as the night begins to drag on, he eventually gets up to leave, and with him several other somber types eventually begin to disperse, until the tavern is at half its original capacity, but at an equal level of noise.

You get up to go hang out with Alan, you glass now empty. A little tipsy, but nothing you can't handle. Alan seems to have brought out his book, only to take a glance out the window to see the moon rising high in the sky. "Seems its almost time for our rendezvous. Did you figure out how we're getting to that island?"

You stare back at him for a split second. No, the thought had not crossed your mind. You decide maybe if you're lucky you can catch the priestess on her way over if you head to the docks. You get up with Alan to rush out of the bar, only to crash into a small, bronze man with a pencil mustache as you try to exit. He notices the gem you placed around your forehead in preparation, and see the necklace sitting in the palm of Alan, and offers a solitary sigh.

"Thank goodness. I'm Odo, a ship captain. The Priestess was worried her guests had not arrived, and I don't think I could handle the disappointment of not finding you two. Please, join us on the island." He offers a hand to help you up timidly. Upon standing, you realize the two of your are of equal height, which did not speak well for a full grown man. "Are you ready?"

Well?

Well now we know what religion he's turned to. Might as well talk business on the way.

I'm still half expecting him to be praising Groudon for some reason and this is a cunning trap but Im now wondering if Im just massively paranoid

You decide you have no time to lose, and make quick pace to board Odo's boat, which as advertised had more than enough room to accommodate your entire traveling party. After some quick checks, he begins to row, his strokes both strong and rhythmic, propelling the boat easily along the still night air. The odd silence is broken by a light glowing on the dock to the lone island just out on the water, and a larger light behind it, the sound of voices streaming out in song.

The slow pace opens up the opportunity for questions, although Odo seems to be awkward around new people. Perhaps it would be a better time to ask something of Alan, or perhaps just sit in silence on the way to the island.

You decide to sit in silence as the boat approaches the island. The sky is clear and beautiful, full of stars, all encircling a bright full moon. The emerald waters around you only reflect the beauty further. Before you know it, you're so entranced by it that you don't even notice the boat dock, or Alan and Odo get off. However, you do feel the nudge on your shoulder, with Odo offering a hang out. "Please, join us on the island."

The red gem dangles around his neck in his stopped position, before taking your hand and helping you off the boat. You walk over to Alan, who is holding his head. "I think I'm getting a headache." The sounds of the ceremony are indeed louder than before, but you feel the singing is rather pleasant, and that perhaps Alan just can't hold his liquor. He follows you regardless, looking more at Charmander's tail light than anything else. Charmander himself on the other hand, is thoroughly enjoying the new sights and sounds, despite the momentary terror of riding a boat.

As you walk down a winding path through the woods, the singing grows closer and closer, until Odo pushes aside a branch to reveal the full coronation. The Priestess is standing in front of an alter that overlooks the water on a small cliff, with a Golduck by her side. The crowd is composed by several familiar faces from town, such as the Old Man from the Inn, and several of the gloomier bar patrons. However, they were dressed in blue robes, with a red gem worn on their persons, all singing around a rock circle painted blue, with grooves carved into it in eccentric shapes. You see Alan is holding his head tighter, his headache seemingly increasing in pain.

It is not until you hear the singing stop that you realize Odo is no longer by your side, and that the crowd of onlookers is looking directly at you and your companions. Their smiles are as warm and friendly as that of the Priestess on the alter, however you notice an odd shape covered by a sheet behind her. "I'm so glad you you could make it! Surely with your added support, Kyogre will hear our plees and bless us with rain and fish once again." The entire group cheers heartily, but fall silent as she continues to speak. "How about we get started, while the moon is high, and Kyogre's power is at its fullest!"

This time the cheers continue, as she reaches behind her to pull on the sheet, ripping it off to reveal a Girafarig, bound and gagged, placed on top the alter, its main head unconscious. The Priestess looks back to you, her smile as genuine as ever. "I thank you for coming, we really couldn't do this without you. Please, join us on the island." As she speaks, the gem on her head and Golduck's lights up, before the gems all around lighting up, causing the entire crowd to speak as one, your voice included.

"Please, join us on the island."

Okay, that's it for tonight. As always @Pokemon_Knights for updates. I'll try for a Friday Quest, but definitely next Tuesday. Same time, same place.

As always, thanks for running. I wonder how we're gonna deal with a mind controlly sacrifical cult...
>>
Thanks for running

Sad to say, but I think the best result for us here is that the ritual goes off as planned. Otherwise we risk our ride and a whole mess of problems. We can report this cult to other authorities though.

Unless maaaybe we can convince these people that it's a bad idea to do sacrifices? I mean it hasn't worked for them so far. Or maybe if they're all really under a spell and don't know what they're doing we can snap them out of it, but that seems unlikely.

I just hope that isn't our Girafarig.
>>
>>34590687
Yeah, but the whole headband mind control 'goodluck charm' thing would suggest that there's something malevolent going on beyond futile sacrifices. If we potentially beat some bad guy then that in turn might put everyone in favour of us, yada yada

Just have to wait til next thread to see how it plays out
