Well, as I said on Twitter, due to a change in my schedule, I've not got a huge chunk of free time on Tuesday afternoons, so I thought I'd run an extra thread of Gundam Build Fighters on Tuesdays! We'll see how things go. If attendance isn't up to par then we'll just keep it to Fridays.

Characters and Gunpla: http://pastebin.com/e16JZdXs

You are JACK FOULKE, an amateur Gunpla Fighter with dreams to make your own mark on the Gunpla battle scene!

Over the past weekend, you've had a pretty fun sleepover party at Charlotte's place, as well as having a great time at the American Qualifier finals, where Charlotte managed to beat her opponent, Greco Logan, and you got to meet the famous Ricardo Fellini himself!

Unfortunately, the weekend was now over, and it was time for school again. The school's Special Tournament to determine which student would get the special entry into the Gunpla Battle World Tournament was going to be held soon, and it was literally the only thing anybody in school was talking about.

As if you needed to be reminded of that.

Another thing that also happened was that as a result of winning the American Qualifiers, Charlotte couldn't really stay incognito anymore, and her real identity was outed to the school. You've never seen so many people piling over each other to try and talk to her. It really irritated you to see that.

Fortunately, the team room was one of the few places where she could find respite from all of the attention, which was where all of you were gathered at the moment for a strategy meeting.

"Jeeeeeeeez." Charlotte sighed as she leaned back in her chair. "I win one battle and suddenly I'm the most popular girl in school."

"Isn't wonderful?" Amy smiles.

"IT FUCKING SUCKS!" Charlotte grumbles.

"I'm sure it'll eventually pass once all the hype dies down." Lucina says helpfully.

"Yeah, I'm sure Lucina could use a bit of that popularity, too." Mac chuckles before being cut short by a sharp elbow jab.

"All right everybody, let's focus on the issue at hand." Karen speaks up, silencing everybody. "Now, on the subject of the upcoming special tournament, we've all agreed that Jack should be the one to represent us. After all, he's pretty much been the core of all of our fighting lineups."

"Ummm, thanks?" You blink.

"It's a compliment, Jack." Karen chuckles. "And there's no debating this issue. You deserve it."

"I assume we have a plan, then?" You ask.

"From what you've told me, it's highly likely that the representatives for Teams Black Stallion and Swarmlord are colluding with Kenneth to let him win the tournament. Now, if you're feeling particularly confident or brave, you're free to try and fight all three of them at once. OR, we could always try to convince at least one of them to 'reconsider' their deal..."

"I'm down with anything that can even the odds against me." You sigh.

"Well, I do know a bit about the fighters Swarmlord and Black Stallion will likely put up." Karen smiles. "From Black Stallion, we have David. He's a senior, so this is going to be his last year. I'm hoping we can use that fact to sway his position. For Swarmlord, we have Lilian. She's actually a sophomore, but I know she's got ambitions. It would just be a matter of making her believe siding with us will benefit her more."

"All right." You nod. "What kind of Gunpla do they use?"

"David uses a highly customized Zaku. Actually, I think it's more weapons than mobile suit at this point. Pretty much a poor man's Kampfer, really." Karen says. You can see Charlotte huff in indignation at the mention of a Kampfer. "Lilian uses a Hi-Nu. Nothing too special about it, except probably extra funnels."

"Okay." You nod. "You think I can just turn both of them?"

"You could." Karen nods. "But that's risky. There's a chance Kenneth could find out and take more... drastic measures."

"I'll keep that in mind." You sigh.

"Huh, maybe I should go talk to David, first." You say.

"You'll find him at the gym. He almost always battles during lunch period." Karen says. "

"I'll come along, too." Lucina says. "I always like to meet formidable opponents."

"Or maybe you just wanna protect poor Jack from big mean Kenneth." Mac chuckles before your shoe meets his shin.

The concerned look on Karen's face was not encouraging at all.

"How about you, Charlotte?" You ask

"And get mobbed by 'fans'? No thanks." Charlotte sighs. "You two go have fun."

"Yeah, sure, let's go, Lucina." You nod.

The two of you exit the team room and meander out onto the school grounds, passing by a number of students. You notice them start whispering in hushed tones as you pass. You're not sure if what they're saying about you is positive or not, but it's still rather unnerving.

"Don't mind them." Lucina says, walking past as if nothing were happening. "Just wondering about it just makes it worse."

Right. You remember Lucina had something of a reputation of being a delinquent in middle school, even though she never willingly broke a school rule, and never hurt another person At least not somebody who didn't "deserve it".

"Anyways, I'm kind of surprised. And maybe a little jealous, too." Lucina says.

"Really? At what?" You blink, wondering where this was coming from all of a sudden.

"At how much you changed." Lucina smiled. "Before, when you were into Gunpla, you never seemed to take it seriously. I don't mean in a bad way, but it never seemed to be at the forefront of your mind."

You just nod, wondering where Lucina was going with this.

"But now, it seems like you've got a purpose. Look at you now, defeating strong opponents left and right and climbing your way to the top. I mean, you actually have a shot at the World Tournament!" Lucina grins.

"Aw shucks, you're embarrassing me." You chuckle.

"I'm sorry, that wasn't my intention." Lucina frowns.

"No, no, it's all right." You laugh. "Where is all this coming from, anyways?"

"Hmmmm, I don't know. I've just noticed lately that you've become a bit more... what's the term... manly? Self-confident? Something like that." Lucina shrugs. "I think it's a nice change."

"I see." You nod. "What about the jealousy part? Because I'm moving so high in the Gunpla fights?"

"Something like that." Lucina grins. "To be honest, I had World Tournament aspirations, too, but I never acted on them."

"You know, I could let you take my spot in the World Tournament if you asked." You say.

"Oh no! I could never do that!' Lucina shakes her head rapidly. "It's something that you deserve... but thank you for offering."

Lucina warm smile makes feel all fuzzy inside.

However, the moment is interrupted by a loud cheer. You realize that you've already reached the gym, where you came just in time to see the end of a match. You make your way inside where you see a older student, with very short hair almost bordering on a crew cut, standing on top of a chair, both arms raised in a victory stance as he clutches a black Zaku in one hand.

Yep, that had to be David.

However, as you approach, you see him step down from the chair, where Kenneth is waiting for him. You see his expression darken somewhat before switching to faux pleasantry as he and Kenneth begin talking.

"This could be a problem." Lucina whispers.

"No kidding." You mumble.

"Let's just wait." You whisper. "They can't talk forever."

"Right." Lucina nods.

True to your prediction, the conversation doesn't last longer than a minute. You see them both nod, and Kenneth gives David a pat on the back before leaving. At this point, the crowd of students is starting to disperse, so now seems to be a good time to approach.

"Watch my back, Lucina." You say.

"I always do." Lucina responds.

You slowly walk towards David, who's busy packing up his Zaku.

"Hey, you're David from Black Stallion, right?" You say loudly as you approach.

"Hm?" David turns to see you walking towards. "Huh... you're that guy from the Sorcerers... Jack, right?"

"That's right." You nod. "I'm the guy."

"Yeah, so what do you want?" David asks.

You decide to get straight to the point. David seemed to be the sort of guy that wouldn't tolerate bullshit.

"I'm just going to say it right now. I want to see if you're willing to actually fight fair and square in the tournament." You say.

"Really?" David raises an eyebrow. "What makes you think I won't?"

"Oh, come on. I just saw you buddying it up with Kenneth, and I'm sure we both know he's not exactly the most upstanding guy when it comes to competition." You roll your eyes.

"Okay, you got me there." Kenneth grunts. "What do you expect me to do?"

"Fight to win it for yourself, not for someone else to win. That's all I'm saying." You stare hard at him. "Look, it's your senior year. Do you REALLY want to go out as the loser in the number 2 spot? Being Kenneth's lapdog? Or do you want to risk it all and do something people will remember you for?"

You can tell David is seriously considering your words, judging from the conflicted look on his face.

David takes a deep sigh.

"I wasn't always as into Gunpla as I am now. Back in freshman year, I was on the football team. I was stupid, and in an effort to pad my stats, I uh, took some 'performance enhancers'. It was only once, and I regretted it ever since."

"And Kenneth found out about it?"

"Yeah. I don't know how he did it." David sighs. "But when I formed the Black Stallions, he suddenly shows up out of the blue with a medical file that showed my test results being positive. Said as long as I never try to beat him, he'll keep quiet about it."

"Is it really that bad?" You ask.

"If something like that goes on my record, I could get expelled!" David says fearfully. "With an infraction like that, good luck joining any pro sports team, whether it be football or Gunpla."

Jesus. That was harsh.

"Listen, if you want my help? Get that file and destroy it. If you do, then I'll give everybody a show they won't forget."

"You remember when we watched Gundam SEED that one time?" You say.

"Yes." Lucina nods. "It wasn't that bad."

"Well, they tried making a sequel to that. The abomination we got was called SEED Destiny."

"Was it really that bad?" Lucina blinks.

"Remember all that characterization in SEED? All those plot threads? Throw them all out the window into an ocean of gasoline and light it on fire."

"Why would anybody watch it, then?" Lucina frowns.

"You can only appreciate true terribleness by experiencing it yourself. It's actually one of the few Gundam series I pirated instead of bought because I didn't want to give Bandai money for it."

"I see..." Lucina looks at you. "Do you really want me to watch something like that?"

"Yeah, sure. We can suffer together! Misery loves company after all." You nod. "It will have the side effect of making every other Gundam series look amazing by comparison. Except AGE, but that's a torture fest for another day."

"Well, I'm looking forward to it... I think?" Lucina says uncertainly. "Anyways, should we look into David's problem, or should we scout out Lilian?"

Don't be silly, Merc. AGE is a wonderful two-parter following the mediocre adventures of Flit, which mostly serves as a setup for the second generation featuring his son. It's a shame it got cancelled and ended fairly unresolved compared to what was still going on, but there definitely wasn't a third generation.

Nope.

Definitely not a third generation.

Just like how SEED Destiny ended when the Freedom's reactor went nuclear and Jesus died for good.

Yyyyyyup.

"Let's go find Lilian first." You say. "Maybe she'll be easier to convince than David."

"I hope you're right." Lucina sighs.

You head over to a section of the school grounds where Karen has told you Lilian was known to hang out at. And indeed you find her, sitting in the shade of one of the school's large oak trees. She was pretty short and had scraggly brown hair, but otherwise didn't seem to stand out too much.

"Well, same thing as last time? Watch my back as I do my thing?"

"Of course." Lucina nods.

As you get closer, you see Lilian apparently putting on nail polish or something. However, you then realize that she's actually painstakingly painting individual funnels, no doubt for her Hi-Nu. She's humming the CCA theme to herself.

"Hi there." You say to get her attention. "You're Lilian from Swarmlord, right?"

"Yep yep! That's me!" Lilian says cheerfully as she turns her head to face you. "Oh, if it isn't Jack from the Sorcerers! What brings you to my fine abode today?"

Jeez, did everybody in school know who you were know? It feels so weird.

"So I guess you really like Char's Counterattack?" You say, eying all the funnels and recalling the tune she was humming.

"Yep! It's my favorite Gundam movie of all time!" Lilian nods rapidly. "Plus the tune is so catchy! No other theme comes close to matching it!"

"Yeah, it IS pretty catchy." You chuckle. "That final Axis battle was pretty cool, too."

"I have to tell you, I literally freaking CRIED when Char and Amuro died!" Lilian sniffed. "And it's too bad the Nu was only limited to that one movie, too!"

"Such a shame." You shake your head.

"What exactly did he say about me...?" You narrow your eyes.

"Oh, all sorts of unpleasant things, like how you were cheater for somehow winning with such a weak mobile suite and stuff." Lilian shrugs. "But yeah, I don't really care much for that sort thing. Don't judge a person until you meet them is what Pa always says!"

Well, it appeared Lilian was one of those sort of people who were bluntly honest about what they felt.

"Anyways, I was wondering if you were going to be fighting in the upcoming tournament fair and square." You say. "You know, I've been hearing that you might be colluding with Kenneth to let him win, after all."

"Hmmmm, you're partly right." Lilian nods. "You want me to go back on his deal? You'd better be offering me something better than he does."

"Okay, what will it take?" You ask.

"Well, I'd be willing to consider your offer for 10,000 Bandai points." She says. "Maintaining all these funnels ain't cheap, you know."

"Ummm, anything else besides money?" You blanch. That was quite a lot of points she was asking for.

"Weeellll...." Lilian pauses to think. "Hey! The Krimson Kampfer is on your team, right? If you could get me an autograph from her, then we'd be square!"

You stop to think. For the points, you'd have to dig into the team treasury for that. No way you were carrying that much on you. On the other hand, it would be relatively cheap to get an autograph from Charlotte, but you weren't sure how she'd feel about the whole thing. You're afraid she'd get offended be even asking.

I'll see what I can do." You sigh.

At that point, though, the bell signifying the end of the lunch break rings. Students scramble to pack their things up so they can get back to class on time, or not.

"I believe we should be going." Lucina says.

"Yeah, okay." You sigh. You had a lot to discuss with the others after school. "What do you think about all this?"

"Honestly?" Lucina glances at you. "From a practical standpoint, Lilian's request is probably easier to fulfill. From an ethical standpoint? David's probably has more merit."

"And which do you think we should with?"

Lucina just shrugs.

"Some help you are." You roll your eyes.

"I can't make your decisions for you, Jack. I can only point out the facts."

Typical Lucina.

"Also, why are you still following me?" You ask. "Don't you have a different class for 5th period?"

"I just thought I'd stick around for a little longer." Lucina said simply.

You sigh. Just like old times.

"How many?"

"Two."

"How close?"

"Keeping their distance. I say about fifteen to twenty meters."

"Might as well let them know we're on to them." You sigh. "Give them the GLARE, Lucina."

"Are you sure about that?" Lucina frowns. "Last time I think I made somebody cry."

"They're big boys. They'll be all right." You shrug.

"Okay..." Lucina then spins around and gives her best deathglare to your tails. It was a move she had picked up from her mother, and it was deadly effective against the faint of heart.

Both of your tails immediately turn away, visibly sweating and trying to at least maintain a semblance of subtlety. One of them begin fumbling awkwardly with a locker lock that he definitely didn't know the combination to, while the other tail became EXTREMELY interested in a nearby water fountain. Both refused to make eye contact with Lucina.

"Okay, I think that's enough." You laugh. "Let's go."

Following your lead, Lucina turns away from your tails. They continue to follow you, but you notice that it's from a significantly farther distance away now.

"I'll see you after school, then." Lucina says as she drops you off at your class.

"Thanks, Lucina." You nod.

Class passes by rather uneventfully. Nothing special, nor do you see your tails again. However, even with the school day over, you've still got a lot to do. Karen would definitely be at the team room to take care of club work. However, Charlotte was probably going to be heading for the hobby shop.

"Hey, Mac, I got something to take care of with Karen first. You mind walking Holly home for me?" You ask your friend.

"Yeah, yeah, sure thing." Mac sighs. "Always talking with a girls, huh?"

"Oh come on, it's not like that." You laugh.

"Whatever, I'll take care of it." Mac gives you a save. "Later, man."

As Mac leaves, Lucina and Amy then approach.

"Amy? What are you doing here?" You blink.

"Well, Lucina told me about what happened earlier. so I decided to come along in case you needed some extra muscle!" Amy grinned as she cracked her knuckles.

"She insisted." Lucina added.

"All right." You sigh, looking around. No sign of tails. That was good.

With Lucina and Amy in tow, you head to the team room, where naturally, Karen is sitting at her desk swamped in paperwork.

"You know, you really should ask for some of us to help you out with that stuff." You frown.

"It's all right. It's not as bad as it looks." Karen smiles weakly. "So what brings you here?"

"Well, I talked with David and Lilian, and they, well, have some pretty interesting demands."

"Really now?" Karen raises an eyebrow. "Such as?"

"David is being blackmailed by Kenneth to throw the match against him. Lilian is basically getting paid off, so we either have to outbid Kenneth for 10,000 Bandai points, or we get her Charlotte's autograph."

"I can see why you're conflicted." Karen clasps her hands together. "On paper, Lilian's demands should be simple to fulfill, but then we'd take a big hit in club funds, and I don't know whether Charlotte would appreciate being used like that."

"That's what I was thinking, too." You nod.

"And freeing David from Kenneth's blackmail might take... interesting measures." Karen sighed. "However, personally, I'd rather help David than indulge Lilian."

"How do you know this?" You blink.

"Well, he is still technically a friend of mine." Karen sighs. "I know his habits and methods."

"Isn't breaking and entering illegal, though?" Amy frowns.

"So is blackmail." Karen responds.

"Point."

"But won't he know something is up if David's blackmail info is missing?" You blink.

"That's why you'll make it look a burglary. Just take whatever you see and get out."

"I'll be distracting him." Karen says.

"You're the hero we deserve, Karen." You grin. "When are we doing it?"

"Tonight." She says, standing up from her desk.

"Whoa, really?" You gasp.

"If you talked to both David and Lilian, I'm sure Kenneth already suspects something is afoot. We'll have to make our move before he has any time to prepare."

"Um, all right." You turn to Lucina and Amy. "You two coming?"

"Somebody needs to keep you out of trouble." Lucina shrugs.

"Sounds fun!" Amy says cheerfully.

Great.

"Come along, then. He doesn't live far." Karen motions for you three to follow her.

True to her words, Kenneth's house is only a few blocks away from the school. Pretty convenient. As you walk, Karen goes over the plan with you.

"Okay, I'll go through the front door and lure Kenneth away from the house." Karen says. "His parents usually don't come home until very late, so you shouldn't have to worry about him. Amy, I suggest you keep a lookout. Jack, Lucina, I'll leave it up to you how to enter the house."

"All right." You nod. "Amy, you signal us if you see anything suspicious, okay?"

"Right!" Amy nods. "If I see anything, I'll mimic the Deathscythe's power up sequence! Or actually, maybe Wing's. I think that's a bit more distinctive..."

"You you can just use your phone." You sigh.

"Oh right! Of course!" Amy raps a fist against her temple and stick her tongue out. "Silly me!"

"Okay, I'm going in." Karen takes a deep breath." Good luck, everybody.

Karen then walks up to the front door and rings the doorbell. It takes a few seconds for it open.

The two of you silently creep into the backyard. There's not really much other than some trees and a lot of grass. Looking around, there's the back door. You guess you could try working the lock. You definitely know Lucina got lessons from her mom, so she was moderately skilled at it. It could take a while, though.

Then again, you could just break a window and get in that way, but someone might hear it.

Looking up, you could see that one of the trees had actually been planted pretty close to the house, and on the second floor you could see an open window. Maybe if you climbed the tree...

Well, you guess it was time to put your tree climbing skills to use. It's been a while since you did this sort of thing, but hey, it was like riding a bike, right?

"Are you sure about this?" Lucina asks cautiously.

"Hey, we did this all the time, Lucina. Don't get cold feet now!" You say as you grab the first branch.

Unfortunately, the first branch you grab literally snaps the moment you put any sort of weight on it. You yelp as you fall backwards, only for Lucina to rush in and grab you in the nick of time.

"Okay, that could have gone better."

"Obviously." Lucina said dryly.

"Did you hear something?" You hear Kenneth's distant voice.

"Probably just the wind." Karen says offhandedly. "Come on, let's grab some tea or something."

Well, that was close.

You're still surprised at the kind of things Lucina could do with a simple hairpin. After a few seconds of manipulating the lock, and she's already undid it with a soft click. You were pretty sure under the right circumstances, she'd find a way to kill a man with that same hairpin. Maybe. Probably.

"That was fast." You whistle.

"It was a cheap lock." Lucina shrugs. "Easy enough to crack."

That didn't fill you with a lot of confidence, for some reason. You were thinking that perhaps you'd double check the locks on your own house...

"Come on, let's go." Lucina says as she slowly opens the back door. The both of you creep inside.

Kenneth's house looked... pretty ordinary. Not much different from yours. Then again, you suppose the majority of people would have pretty mundane home decorating. However, you ignore all that and head for the stairs. Your path briefly takes you past the front windows. Glancing out, you don't see any sign of Karen or Kenneth. So far so good.

You sneak into what you presume to Kenneth's room. Lucina immediately goes to work, combing the desks and drawers around the room for anything incriminating.

However, you find yourself drawn to another part of the room. There, in the corner was a large glass case filled with various Gunpla models. And there, at the very top shelf, was a very familiar looking Unicorn Gundam. The Gunpla model seemed to simply stare at you, as if taunting you try something in its presence.

This was Kenneth's main battle Gunpla. You were sure of it. Your hands slowly reach for the case...

You quickly withdraw your hand at the last second, wondering what the hell you were thinking. You shake your head quickly to clear your thoughts. Instead, you decide to try and examine the Unicorn, looking for any oddities or faults that could give you any clue as to how the Gunpla worked.

Upon close examination, you had to grudgingly admit that Kenneth was a pretty good builder. You couldn't really find any major faults in the Unicorn's construction. However, you were able to glean some extra facts. You could see attachments as well as the pieces for its Full Armor configuration. No clue if it had the fully awakened powerset, but it would be on the safe side to assume it did. Otherwise, it was a pretty stock Unicorn Gunpla.

"Jack, I appreciate your desire to ogle Gunpla, but can you help me out here?" Lucina hisses.

"Oh, right!" You dash back where Lucina is and she plops pillowcase-turned loot sack into your hands.

"That's every single flash drive I could find, as well as the paper file for David's test. I took a handful of other files so Kenneth won't know what we're targeting."

"Maybe-"

"NO. We're not looking in the other files." Lucina grunts. "We're destroying them along with David's file."

"Yeah, okay." You blink when you see Lucina pick up Kenneth's computer. "What are you doing?!"

"Need to make it look like a theft, right?" Lucina says, lugging the tower as if it were an empty cardboard box. "This is pretty high end tower. Pretty expensive. No way a thief would pass it up."

>Okay, let's just take it and go!

"Okay, let's just take it and go!" You hiss.

Suddenly, your phone vibrates. You take it out to see that you received a text from Amy.

K&K COMING BACK. GET OUT NAO!

Damnit. You motion to Lucina that you have to get out NOW. Lucina quietly nods and you quietly bolt down the down stairs and out the back door just as you hear the front door unlocking. Amy keeps the back gate open as the two of you dash out the moment Karen and Kenneth enter the house.

"Should we wait for Karen?" Amy asks.

"I have a feeling she'll be fine." You say and turn to Lucina. "How are you gonna handle the tower?"

"I'll take it apart piece by and piece and sell it off as parts. It'll literally be impossible to trace." Lucina shrugs.

You don't really want to ask her how she knows that.

"Okay, I'll take the evidence with me and I'll seal the deal with David tomorrow morning." You say. "See you two tomorrow."

"See ya!" Amy salutes before dashing off.

Lucina splits off from you to take a concealed route so people wouldn't see her lugging a damn computer around, leaving you to walk home alone. You send a text to Karen saying mission accomplished and asking if she was all right. You quickly get a response.

SEEING KENNETH THIS ANGRY HAS MADE MY DAY.

Heh, that was nice.

You finally get home, and the first thing you're greeted by is Holly.

"HEEEEEY, Jack! Why do you look so tired?" She asks.

"I've had a long and very, VERY weird day." You sigh. "I'm gonna get some sleep."

Well, at least your prospects for the tournament were already looking up.
