Previously on Medieval Pokemon Quest

A 14 year old boy is sent on his pokemon journey with his trusty Turtwig, Teddy. Hunting in the the forest and checking out a lake nets him Carla, the Clauncher. We travel to Bluerock city and join up with a trading ship. Bunking with the wealthy Jesse, Barry learns to sail and trains his pokemon. Barry escorts Jessie to her ultra-rich uncle and learns of the civil war taking place in Hoenn. After a night at a mansion, the pair explores the jungle and gain new partners, a Bagon and Croagunk. They then walk through the botanical garden and return to the ship.

On the trip home against the currents, a pirate ship is spotted and board the Painted Wailord. The pirate captain attacks your room with his Greninja. Luckily, we fight off the scum and watch Teddy evolve. Resting against the wall, you have a highpoint in every boy's life, your first kiss. You are informed that as the slayer of the pirate captain, you are now the owner of his ship. You rename the Grim Greninja the Garrulous Grotle. You and Jessie get kitted out in poke-armor, then you meet her parents. An awkward dinner later, you leave and wake in the morning to see Jessie and her father

I'm still not entirely convinced we should go the route of full-on captain, especially given the fact that we will have a Torterra before long.

Looking down at the pair on the dock, the older man out of place in his fine silk, you are happy to see Jessie and her father. Throwing on your best vest and puffiest shirt, you slide down the one of the tarred ropes securing the boat. Alighting on the dock, you walk over to the pair.

"Hello sir, I'm pleased to see you again. Will your wife be joining us?" you speak directly to the man, keeping your gaze from Jessie.
"Thank you master-, sorry, Captain (Insert Last Name). Sadly my lady wife dislikes the sea. That is a fine ship you have, do you know when you will be sailing her again?" the dark haired gazes up at the main sail and fore jib.
"Well sir, as you can see, the crew is loading her with goods and provisions. We should be set to go in three days," you gesture over at the Machokes carrying boxes and bolts of fabric, "We sail northwest to the Hoenn archipelago."
"All good, all good. If I could inquire, would you be willing to hold off leaving? i have been massing my ships to go the same way. Safety in numbers and all that"

So ocean caravan? I can dig it. Your ship is too small to handle anything more than a small pirate group anyways, and what with that hoenn civil war, that means privateers will be about. Safety in numbers.

Train

"Of course sir, that sounds like a good idea. I shall inform the crew tonight. I'm surre they will be toasting you when they're in their cups. Would you like a tour of the ship, the woodworking is abnormally good for a pirate vessel."
"No thank you, I'm sure that you have better things to do than entertain me. Come along Jessie" the gentleman turns on his heel, looking back when his daughter doesn't follow
"Thanks Daddy, I was hoping to spend some time with Barry. We're gonna go train together." the heiress grabs you hand and pulls you onto the ship.

You get your team and spy the squat frog pokemon hiding atop some crates. He walks over and stands with Jessie, her Joltik resting on his head. Your convoy waits for Mr. Korda to disappear over a slight hill, before walking for to the city gates. Once free of civilization, you troop into the forest to train and get meat for the trip

>One week later

You walk hunched over, carrying a large number of bidoof skins and jerky. Teddy walks against a roughly made harness, dragging a sled of more forest animals. One Stantler, a full grown buck, lies in pieces, killed with a well aimed Razor Leaf. Both you and Jessie are caked in dirt, with twigs and leaves sticking from your short hair. Stopping at Carla's lake, you wash up and prepare to go back to civilization.

In the wet tunic, you board the ship, dropping the meat and fur at the galley. Looks like Bidoof chops and Stantler burgers are gonna be the staple for the trip.

Mr. Korda's view:
The child captain is dragged away by your willful daughter, onto the pirate ship. A large frog, Croagunk you think, takes peeks at you from on top a crate. She could end up with worse, even if he is a nomad. Fourteen and already steering a vessel, the boy shows promise. You dearly hope the two will be safe.

>Learn to read

The sailing charts confound you to no end, with their cramped letters and notes. Realizing the importance of literacy, you set out on a quest to read. You steer the ship close to Mr. Korda's ship, the Scowling Scolipede. Carla launches a rope and ball onto the railing, her targeting systems perfectly looping the weight around the wood. You climb across, ignoring the drop to tropical waters below. Walking into the cabins, you knock on doors until you find Jessie's(third on the left). You knock, then sit next to her at a desk. Conveniently, she already has a book out. Talking it over, and explaining your quest, you convince Jessie to teach you.

>The next week

"The his-history of Ho...hoenn is a rich and fab... fabu..."
"Fabulous" Jessie looks over your shoulder at the history book.
"Thanks. Fabulous tale of riv...rival brothers, Archie and Maxie." you stumble through the words, tripping on the u's and ie's. Another twenty minutes and you turn the thick page.
>You can now read at a second grade reading level

>Mr. Korda View

You are now banned from Jessie's room. For some reason, Mr. Korda doesn't like you spending time with Jessie. Weird, he seemed fine with you sharing a room.

The ships cut through the emerald waters of Hoenn, the trade winds blowing you towards riches. Coming to harbor on the docks of Lilycove city. Larger than Bluerock, the markets make up a large portion of the city, with an eighth of the city being the Grand Market. The crew ties up the ship at your mooring post, and trows down the bridge, then start carrying the cargo to the market. The faces of the locals stare at the mass of ships, thin faces following the grain and meat.

God damn it Berry.

"Hey Mr. Korda my crew keeps asking if I've done it with Jessie yet. What's "It"?"
>>
>Meet the Captains

A messenger was sent to your ship, bearing the message that the captains and merchants were meeting on the Scowling Scolipede. Walking down the gangplank, you shout for Colpher to guard the cargo. You climb up to the Scolipede, and enter the meeting, taking place in the wheelhouse of the ship. Sitting at a felt covered table are ten men, one for each ship in your convoy. You sit at the vacant seat on the left side of the table. Looking round, you recognize Captain Diamond and Jessie's father.

"All right, now that we're all here, we can start. As agreed upon, we shall not undercut each other's prices, selling grain at 400 gold a bushel and meat at 10 gold a pound. The rest of goods are subject to demand, charge what you will." Mr. Korda addresses the captains, standing at the head of the table. Some captains begin to quarrel over mooring spots, complaining about their distance from the markets. You don't see the problem, they were the last ships to moor, and Colpher says that they don't replace their sails often making them slower than the rest of the group.

You zone out for a time, listening with half an ear, perking up at interesting snippets
"We should only sell to Aqua, seems like they would be the best for us."
"Heard talk of a big battle on Mt. Chimney"
"Magma wants a lot of steel, any of you bring any? Wonder what they'll do with it"

As lunch is served, the talk dies down and ends, freeing you from the room. Teddy wakes up from his spot on the deck, and walks over to your side. Scratching the underside of his neck, you knock Jessie's room. She looks over from her book, looks like the Poke-bible, and stands stretching. She grabs her belt with knives and coin purse, anticipating your suggestion. The two of you walk over to the dock, leaving your pokemon behind.(Choose one pokemon to bring)

>Let Jessie Lead

You drop Teddy off at the ship, he probably doesn't want to move much today. It's sunny out, and he tends to sleep a lot in this weather. As you enter your cabin, Carla jumps up and scuttles onto your shoulder. Now wearing a shellfish as a scarf, you exit with Jessie. She leads the way through the streets of Lilycove, first driving through the market. The two of you wind through stalls for all items, ending up in small plaza with a fountain and marble columned building. The two of you, accompanied by Carla and Joltik, sit on cool marble. Carla slips off your shoulder into the water, swimming with the goldeen and luvdisc. You walk over to one of the vendors, and purchase two jelly filled doughnuts. Bring them over, you see Joltik has spin a small raft for him/herself(you don't know the sexual characteristics that show the gender of spiders). You hand a doughnut over to Jessie and watch her bite into the sticky ball of rice.

Your snack over, Carla pulls Joltik over to the wall and climbs out of the fountain. With the wet crustacean on your neck, Jessie leads you back through the markets. Your pair stops occasionally, looking over the weapons or jewelry for sale. A helmet made from a Tyranitar catches your eye, then a silver necklace with pink crystals from a Diancie glints in the box of a jeweler. Leaving the markets behind, you end up south of the docks, standing in the soft sand of the beach. Carla scurries into the surf, then pops back up, hosing the two of you with seawater. Carla might have been aiming for Joltik, they don't get along well. Now soaking wet, the two of you wade into the waves. A few hours pass, in which Carla shoots more water, but due to a rough wave ends up shooting across the water
>Carla learned Aqua Jet

You and Jessie lie together in the sand, the bright sun baking the water from your clothes. Jessie's looking a little pink, she doesn't go out in the sun much. Closing your eyes, the world goes black, and when you open them again, the sun is touching the sea. Red and yellow suffuse the waves, drawing your attention from your body. Looking down, Jessie has curled up against you, smiling as she sleeps on your tanned arm

>Mr. Korda View
It is nice to be in the hot sun. Bluerock is nice, but so dank in the winter. Perhaps when this war ends, you'll buy a house out here. Taking the telescope from your cabin, you gaze into the city, strafing the markets and beach. Oh, thats nice. Some couple fell asleep on the beach. Wait... son of a bitch.

Hell no. This is not gonna happen to you. You are the pickpocket, not him. Grabbing hold of Carla and finding her wrapping herself around your hand, you find that you now have a arm mounted water cannon.
+New skill: Arm Clauncher

Running after the thief down the alley, you spot their boot, turning right. Running full out, you turn the corner to spot the thief once more. Their red hair streams back, like a Pyroar's mane. Firing off jets of water, you blast the pickpocket in the leg. The thief continues, reaching a dead end in the street. He turns, a small knife clutched in his freckled hand.

Shooting out another beam of water at the knife, you see the hand bend back from the force, before the blade spins from his hand. Now unarmed, you look up at the thief's face. And ample chest.

"Hey man, a girls got to eat. The greedy merchants are charging 10 gold for a pound of shitty salt meat." The girl eyes the pokemon on your wrist and the large red and gold dagger on your hip. "Course, that probably is chump change to someone like you. That a Pawniard blade? Rich brat like you got daddy to buy it for you.

"I'm Alyssa... wait what. You're a captain. Of a ship. And you killed a pirate" the redhead questions you. Its not that strange, so what if you are only fourteen. There are stories of a ten year old general named Red. Captain seems low compared to general.

You walk the red haired and handed thief to the closest restaurant cart and buy kebabs for yourself and Alyssa, and a small hunk of meat for Carla. Walking with the food, you lead Alyssa to the Garrulous Grotle and talk to her in a spare cabin.

Get to know Alyssa: Find out her age, why she was stealing or if she have any family
Maybe introduce her to Jessie

>introduce her to Jessie

There is no way this can end badly.

Hopefully we do this while her father is within earshot.

>Ten year old general named Red.
Okay, so THAT'S how this universe works. I misunderstood the initial premise. This is basically an alternate reality, not a historical exploration. And for some reason I'm reminded of the Bartimaeus trilogy. . .

Introduce alyssa to the crew first. Say that she's uh. . . handy with a dagger. That much is true.

>Give Alyssa a job, and ask about her life

"Okay, before I do anything, I have to know why you were robbing people."You start off with the thief, watching for any telltale movements that would give her away.
"Fine. I'm fourteen years old and from the northern part of Sinnoh. My family left when I was a baby, so I lived on a small farm west of here. I stole your gold because I was desperate. What with the war, all the men in my village were sent to fight for Magma. Without my brother, I was all alone and couldn't grow anything. I sold the farm, but the money barely lasted me a month here. I don't know if Silas is still alive, last we heard was that Magma lost at Mt. Chimney." No obvious ticks that you can spot, either she's telling the truth or she is a great liar.

"Well, thats a good enough reason for me. I would have done the same if things got that bad. Do you have any skills, purely so I can have an excuse for giving you a job" you say, thinking of the skeleton crew you have currently.
"My brother and I would make barrels for the village, so I know some carpentry." A cooper, perfect.
"If you can do that, it seems that you have a job. The Garrulous Grotle happens to be in need of a cooper, and you can work with the carpenter as well." This is good, you help a person out and you gain a valuable asset to the ship. You lead Alyssa to the carpenter, Mister Cahill. Leaving them, you return to your work at reading.
>>
You have a few days before the convoy is ready to leave. Most of your grain and meat is gone, along with the rum and textiles. No doubt the hold will be empty on your way back, the strong box heavy with gold. What do you want to do with your time?

Well if we're going out to pick her up, we can talk to him first. Better than somehow doing something to piss him off in the intervening time.

Hell he may approach us at that time anyway, better we take the initiative.

>aron
I don't want to get anything that can't conceivably float (or fly)
>>
>>34565151
We're already set to have a dragon type and a ground type. Flygon is just sort of redundant.
>>
>>34565177
...but awesome
>>
>>34565195
Salamence will be plenty awesome, if we can even get him. I think we ought to diversify. I suggested Aron and Ralts earlier, and I understand not wanting something that can't be transported too easily, but if we evolve Teddy into the Torterra he was always destined to be, we'll have that same problem. Having an Aggron in a medieval setting seems like a great idea to me.

Jessie getting the Ralts makes total sense, I'm behind that plan.
>>
>>34565378
Aron is another (eventually big) heavy pokemon that's as good as dead if falls overboard.

Mankey has limbs and hands for shipboard utility much like the sailors machokes. Also he can perhaps learn thunder and fire punch to round out our elemental availaability.
>>
>>34565378
But having TWO large and bulky pokemon is a problem. We already have torterra, so another slow guy will ju-

>>34565442
Yes what this guy said. (Although spinarak is also good which is why I suggested that too)
>>
>>34565442
We'd just get aggron to cling to the prow and then sail into our enemies
>>
>>34565462
Also, apparently Aggron can be taught surf. I'm not expecting HM's to feature in any way in this quest but it DOES imply Aggron's aren't so insta-drown as they might appear.

Plus, if we ever fight a land battle (say, attacking a castle) Aggron would be a tremendous asset
>>
>>34565545
And as for a flygon - we might not have pressing need of it but I'm sure a comrade would be more than happy to take care of one

>Mr. Korda View
The little Nomad has been ignoring my daughter in favor of some street rat he picked up. Any girl will do it seems.
>>
>>34566206
Exactly. As it stands he seems to begrudgingly accept you being close to Jessie, he's just paranoid about potential hankypanky
>>
>>34566244

So we alleviate his fears by making it perfectly clear we are denser the a geodude's core and then we'll see how Jessie deals with us being a dipshit and hanging out with Alyssa

You send the weighted rope across the water again, thanking Carla and climbing across the tarred rope. Jumping on the deck, you walk to the cabins. Opening the door to the aftercastle, you bump into Mr. Korda and his Scolipede. Thinking now would be a good time to talk, you open with some of your best arguments.

Mr. Korda View
Oh, so you want to spend more time alone with Jessie in the room of my one and only daughter. Haha, no. Silly nomad, I say you on the beach. I swear to Arceus, if you do anything to my daughter, I will feed you to the silly little crustacean clinging to your arm. Then again, its better than them going off on their own. At least here, you can keep an eye on him. Fine, you can just have a carpenter cut a hole in her wall. If this little boy even thinks about Jessie that way, you can hear and interrupt. Wait... oh he stopped. Shit think of something to say!

"Well Barry, you have convinced me, you may entertain my daughter in her room. But remember that you are still on my ship." the old man agrees to your proposal, only to watch as you walk into his daughter's room and exit again with her.
"Bye Daddy, see you soon. Me and Barry are going to explore while we have time."

One more crossing of the rope, and another to help Jessie across, and you introduce Alyssa to Jessie. For some reason, Jessie seems to dislike the perky redhead. Fitting on your armor, you lend Alyssa your bow. Turns out she did some hunting while a farmer.

The three of you walk out, you with Carla, Jessie carrying Joltik, and Alyssa with the Gogoat bow. Climbing the hill, you walk along a cobble road, then turn into the forest. Trekking through the jungle seems to scare Jessie, for she seems to be hanging closer to you than normal. Alyssa stays back a bit more, holding a notched arrow on the bow. A chattering pierces the trees, a series of short "keykeykey"s. You and Alyssa raise your ranged weapons, while Jessie's Joltik rubs up against her hair. A short white snout is forced through the canopy, followed by a pair of beady eyes. You press your finger against Carla, prompting her to launch s jet of water at the pokemon.

The jet hits the pokemon square in the snout, due to Carla's careful aim. The pokemon falls from the vegetation, landing in a crouch. Around the same size Teddy was before the battle, the furry little pokemon stands on it's hind legs, baring it's fangs and flexing it's muscled arms. You place a small hunk of berry and honey in the claw near your wrist, and press Carla's side again. She fires a weaker beam of water at the pokemon, launching the candy in front of the creature. The pokemon reaches for the treat, sniffing it before stuffing it and the hand holding it into it's maw. The mankey turns it's head, savoring the sweet. Deciding, the mankey walks bowlegged to you. You pet him and fish out another chunk of sweets for the mankey

Now with a sixth member to your band, you follow the lead of the Mankey. He leads from above, swinging through the low branches and hanging while waiting for you to catch up. After an hour following him, you find yourself on the bank of a small lake. Lying in some tall grass, a blue cat-like pokemon rests in the shade. Creeping closer, you find that the cat has a large wet red patch on it's side. Alyssa rushes forward, fumbling for an Oran berry. Lifting the cat's head, Alyssa slices slivers of the berry off and pushes them past the large canines. As you watch, the wound on the pokemon scabs over. The scab begins pealing away in strips as new muscle and skin form. A light fuzz of short blue fur is is all that remains of the life threatening gash. Falling asleep, the pokemon opens one golden eye and nuzzles her savior. You camp by the lake, roasting some goldeen over a bed of coals. The next morning, the cat, which stays by Alyssa's side, is standing and speaking in it's feline language.

With the group yet one more larger, you set off back towards Lilycove city. After lunch, you are walking with Jack upon your shoulders. You make a joke about piggy back rides, received with much groaning from your companions. Jack liked it though, which is a good consolation prize. The group is startled, as a white pokemon appears in front of you. It turns it's green capped head at you, then swinging it's red horn to point at Jessie. Before you can think, the pokemon half jumps, half teleports into Jessie's arms, which swing up to catch the small pokemon. The pokemon shifts, turning it's back facing horn at you and a wave of happiness and contentment washes over you. Shaking off the feeling, your group continues but every so often the horn points to you.

The cargo holds in the convoy's ships are empty, and provisions are once more being loaded onto the ships. The strong box on your ship is full with gold from the price gorging. You hand out pay to the crew, cutting into the gold. Provisions and Captain Diamond's cut is also factored in, leaving you with enough money to pay yourself and leave money for the rest of the trip. You take a break from finances, the numbers spinning in your mind. You stop at the poop deck, where Alyssa is working with Mister Cahill. You talk with the twenty something, checking on their project. Just the replacement of a pulley, you ask if Miss Alyssa is crucial to the project. Learning that she isn't, you ask for her company. Mister Cahill winks back at you as the two of you leave. Walking down the gangplank like a normal person, you walk to the Scowling Scolipede. Finding Jessie lounging on the deck with Ralts, you get hit with another wave of joy. Clearing your head, you ask Jessie to come with you to the markets for some books.

Pushing up from the chair, Jessie walks to your side. Your trio complete, you walk down the plank towards the market. The market seems full today, but with you as a spearhead, you move through the crowds with ease. Wonder why their all here. Finding a small book shop, Jessie sets on the scientific diagrams. Alyssa hang back at the counter, looking at some small story books. You decide to get an assortment of books, piling textbooks and fairy tales together. Jessie grabs a few for herself, and you notice Alyssa buying a history book on Red. The cover must have been destroyed, for it has been replaced by a fanciful painting of an shirtless adult Red and a woman in his arms.

Loaded down with the parchment, your group wanders back to the Garrulous Grotle, where you lie in the sun next to Teddy and read.

Yeah I think we're doing fine. Only real complaint would be about the time it takes to post, but that can't be helped.

I'd like it if the developing relationships aren't too... predictable. Stereotypical. Especially where Aly is concerned.
