Previous thread: >>34467475

1d4chan page: http://1d4chan.org/wiki/The_/tg/_Heresy

This is the /tg/ Heresy. Its continuing mission: to seek out new legions, new chapters, to boldly go where no space marine has gone before!
>>
>>34475912

So, who was at Isstvan V and where? Replace the Legion Icons with your own icons for this.
>>
Last time on /tg/ Heresy we got some shit done but also had a giant and pointless fight. More of the former, less of the latter, I say.

Nova Defenders and their Lighthouse took a lot of stick, and I think the problem is mainly that they can't be about the Lighthouse. They're about Rook North and the more we probe that the better it gets. However, the Lighthouse could be some kind of spatial gate thing, maybe bright enough for North to have seen with the naked eye from the legion's homeworld 4-12ly away - so it's the North Star he named himself for, an important part of Nova Defender lore and maybe of strategic significance. That way, a Nova Defender Successor Chapter (a-ha, my stake in this becomes clear!) could have planted a giant Fortress-Monastery by the thing to guard it.

Does that work for other anons?
>>
Hey, I tried to upload a picture of the Sand Keeper color scheme on to the wiki but its not showing up as a picture. Help?
>>
>>34475968
My advice is to just put Legions there and see if anyone complains.
>>
>>34476040
Nvm, figured it out. In other news what do you guys think of my color scheme?
>>

I was looking at the problem at the same time as you were fixing it.

Colours are sweet. It's got that classic marine "we know what camouflage is and we give no fucks" look.
>>
>>34476209
You could probably be a bit more wild with throwing legions in there. If they don't have a sigil, just use their Legion numeral.

(Also, to help lame guys like me, a key - or at least a "team roster" for each side posted as text - would be amazing.)

The Silver Cataphracts call upon the world of Rosskar as their primary world of recruitment and home. It is upon this dark, deary place where the Primarch Alexandri forged his legacy which bears the blood of so many.

To understand the Cataphracts and the Rosskans one must first appreciate the world they live on, Rosskar. The sun of Rosskar is dim, yet it is even closer to the world than that of Terra's. A pale blue light bathes the world during the day, and a less bright night sky greets the inhabitants of the world as a result of their sun's proximity. The foliage of Rosskar is a rabid xenos breed that grows tall, wide, and fast. The rich nutrients of the world make it perfect for agriculture, yet the trees continue to grow everywhere akin to weeds.

Worst yet, the copious plant life has allowed a massive amount of herbivores to evolve on the world. Good, you think? But such is the tragedy so common to Rosskar, where what one believes is good is simply wrong. The increase is herbivores led to an increase in carnivores. A genetic arms race began to see which species could adapt to be the most deadly. Both herbivores and carnivores on the planet are dangerous, swift creatures that attack and kill anything that is not of its own kind. Humans rarely survive a few hours wandering Rosskar's forests.

Alexandri did not land in the forests, tamed beasts to his will, and lived as an animal child. Instead, he landed to live among one of the wealthiest families on the planet. Long ago, colonists saw Rosskar from above as utopia. Before the Dark Age a colonial wave the likes of which was rarely seen in those days rushed to the world before scientists could finish observing it properly. This led to the massive, but incredibly depressed Rosskans that live on the planet today.

Alexandri learned all sciences available to him from the relatively advanced Rosskan society. The Dark Age had not effected them in this way but again, this is not good. The technological base allowed a new aristocracy to arise among the colonials, who ruled them with an iron fist. People starved and froze to death while the aristocrats lived in luxury, without any need in the world. This is wrong, yes? Again you are wrong. Without the aristocracy arising from the chaos of the Dark Age, there would be no Rosskans! In the great panic that begat the fall of mankind's stellar empire on Rosskan, dozens of cities were lost to the forest. Due to the leadership and harsh tactics of the aristocrats, everything would be lost!

Alexandri became aware of his origins from one of his siblings, upon his twentieth birthday. The knowledge was nothing new to him. He had known for a long time he was, something else. But it awakened something in him to be, more. More than an aristocrat's son. The son of a God? No. But ruler of Rosskan? Most definitely. In secret Alexandri organized the many gangs among the poor, promising a new future while arming them with weaponry bought from his allowance. When the time was right, his coup went off without a hitch! If you excuse the wholesale butchering of the aristocracy without a hitch, but none of the guards of those houses died, or their cooks, or anyone else.

His family never forgave him for this act. He did not care. Pure ambition drove him now. The planet's aristocrats were purged by his bloody dream of conquest. The decades rolled on, and Alexandri's family started to age while he remained in a prime state of health. His armies were grinded down to a halt, since the remaining few cities had become so entrenched and fortified. A crisis took over Alexandri. He realized the family that did love him was dying around him, and he wouldn't even achieve his dreams.

About the blockade marines... if you're setting Rook and the Nova Defenders up as firepower-based but averse to fighting eye-to-eye, they probably specialise in Elastic Defence. This is more or less what it sounds like - you have a screen with the main force concentrated out of the enemy's reach, so that attacks can be absorbed, then bounced back. I'm not entirely sure where guys with shields fit into that, because mobility is such a key part of that kind of doctrine.

It could be a thing for the Legion's Honour Guard as just symbolic of Rook's philosophy, I guess?

The blood of thousands were on his hands. The only people who had ever loved him, hated him. He saught out the only help he could. Someone who could solve all his problems. The Coven of Rosskan, a society of witches which had existed for centuries. Now, Rosskan's star is not just useless for giving light or warmth, but it also has breath moments where the fabric between worlds flickers. The Immaterium joins along the solar pulses to bathe the world in an odd energies. You didn't think creatures just evolve to be unnecessarily deadly, did you? Blyad!

Anyways, these witches and warlocks had lived among the people for years until the aristocrats feared their growing popularity among the masses. They helped the people with ailments, they summoned aid from beyond, and divined the future. Those witches who couldn't control their power were put down by bands of citizens led by more sane, careful witches. The government decided to force all witches out, because directly opposing them would bring too much ill will.

The Covens existed on the outskirts of civilization, skirting the edge of the dreaded forests. The witches were able to keep the beasts at bay with the aid of powers beyond Alexandri's comprehension. It is not known what was said between Alexandri and the witches, but he returned not with mystical aid. Fool! Did you believe witches are just people with hookus-pockus powers and daemon summoning capabilities? They are wise beyond your understanding! Wisdom is what Alexandri saught, and wisdom is what he received!

The sieges depended upon opening up a breech, and sending a horde of infantry in before they could properly block up the hole. Where as before this was easy, now the cities had built walls behind one another with overlapping lines of fire from hardened bunkers. Essentially making old tactics impossible. Alexandri started to forge the masterful strategy in which, one would not fight the enemy. His army would avoid fighting whenever possible. They would build defenses as well, but less obvious ones. Their snipers would pick off the defenders one by one without fear of reprisal since, the defenders never knew where it came from. His artillery focused on destroying the enemy's, and then their means to produce it, and then they would bombard everything but the defenses! They randomly shelled the inside of the towns, blasting apart regular people to disrupt the entire war machine within the city.

A Rosskan city, you see is meant to be entirely self-sufficient. Which is why you can't starve it out. But Alexandri found a different way to siege than ever conceived before on Rosskan. He attacked the city itself. He wore down the defenders, while his army never suffered a major loss. Cities fell within months, either capitulating or from coups brought by the military because they couldn't take it anymore. Alexandri was pronounced Emperor of Rosskan. His rule brought about a massive wave of altruism and intellectualism. He saught to cull the forests and bring the beauty of science to the masses.

No matter what, Rosskan is still a shithole. You can't beat the cold, you can't beat the monsters that lurk in the forests, and most of all, nothing you do will 'cull' the forests. You can only ever delay them. Decades of ruling the place he had once dreamed of brought crushing reality of actual governing to Alexandri. His grand ambitions were met with failure, after failure. He did some good, but not everyone saw this.

It's an operational doctrine from last century, though I think it's still valid today. In 40k terms (and remembering that a skirmish game isn't quite going to do the job) the idea is to have a thin line of scouts to keep the enemy from firing on your main force. Your main body is mobile (rhinos, maybe "assault marines" carrying standard tactical guns) and can move to deliver overwhelming firepower to enemies who get close enough to break the scout line. That's how I see the Nova Defenders setting up a defence, rather than digging in or standing behind walls.

He had awakened a fire in them! He had brought the desire for change for the better! Peasants who thought nothing before, now were angered at their Emperor for his inability to alter facts of life. Years passed where every day of Alexandri's life was plagued with assassins and attempts on his life. He fought all off these off, surviving poisonings and everything else. Then some brilliant, brilliant person decided. "What if we target his family instead!"

Alexandri has reconciled with his surviving family members by begging for it. He humbled himself before them, just as the witches had told him. No more excuses! No more justifications! Just ask and crawl to be accepted! And he was! A new generation within Alexandri's family was being raised up at the time, with tutelage and guidance from Uncle Alex. That is, before a car bomb at the Imperial Palace killed half of them. If I need to explained how the Ex-Emperor felt about that, you clearly are a fool who I have wasted my time with!

Alexandri forged a secret police who's true name isn't even known to his Legionnaries. It is said half of all conspiracies against the Rosskan government are actually entirely populated by his agents, just seeing if any idiots try to join. Life on Rosskan is heavily monitored and maintained by their diligent watch. If you aren't ambitious, things are pretty good for you! No one freezes, and no one starves. Alexandri may not be benevolent, but he is strong and just. That is all Rosskan needs of him.

I had actually intended the ND's to be like a legion sized moving phalanx, with plasma guns instead of spears. Sort of a wall of fire that by the time you've advanced on, outnumbers you. The shields are to increase the number of survivors during the charging phases, and make that advantage even greater. That was just my original concept for the Nova doctrine.

THE TALE OF TWO EMPERORS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6MuBslefto
-----
The Primach Alexandri's world of Rosskan exists in the deep zone of disinterest between the Halo Stars and the important worlds of the Segumentum Pacificus. It was discovered by accident, when an Imperial ship's Navigator detected one of the famous 'Warp flares' from Rosskan's star. This brought the attention of the two Imperial Legions. When it was revealed that the world was obviously ruled by one of his sons, the Emperor came with his own personal fleet to retrieve him.

Alexandri had through the processes of coercion and diplomacy become the rightful ruler of the quite chilly Rosskan. He had organized armies at his beck and call which could match the Imperial Army, but his fleet was quite lacking as during the Dark Age the ability to produce Gellar Fields had been lost to the world. This had made expanding into Warp Travel null and void. The Emperor met with his son on peaceful terms on the world, at first. His son even was the first to suggest removing his Rosskan title of 'Emperor', catching on fast that this wouldn't stand with his true father.

Alexandri and his world appeared to be in a perfect state of health, but at its core was a rotten festering mass of witchcraft. The witches of Rosskan had been accepted on the world for far too long. The Emperor found their existence distasteful, as they openly consorted with the beasts of the Immaterium albeit cautiously. The purges of the Covens especially upset Alexandri, for reasons undetermined. He was like a child complaining about having his favorite toy removed...
>>
>>34476959
I just don't want to scrap the Blockade Marines entirely. It's kind of a big part of who the Novas are. They certainly shouldn't be a one trick pony, but without it, they're just another chapter.

The Emperor was quick to discipline his child. When it was discovered that his secret agents had hidden away a few witches from the Emperor's Custodians continued the purges, rooting out the remaining psykers at great cost to the local population. When the local defense forces attempted to stop them, futilely, the Emperor demanded that all these 'traitors' be dealt with immediately. It was reported that Alexandri accepted these orders from the Emperor begrudgingly! Can you believe the arrogance?

It is still a matter debate if any witches did survive. Was some time ago, and now they could have rebuilt their numbers. If it is true, it could bring a great upset to the current debate on psykers in our Imperium. Never the less, this is a retelling of the Emperor reuniting with his son, not a commentary piece.

Alexandri took immediate command of his Legion, but mistrust was fresh in his mind over the acts of his Emperor. Further proof of his blind hubris. Those in command he did not approve of were demoted within the Silver Cataphracts. His agencies constructed events so some cities broke off, for the pure purpose of training exercises. Each Cataphract was forced to spend an hour the forests of the planet, to gain an appreciation for Rosskan. Few died as a result, but many were left with wounds and a new impression of their home.

The Emperor oversaw these exercises, attempting to detect any further impudence within his son. But the savage soul of Alex was still Rosskan, and with proper show of force, all Rosskans bend to the will of a powerful figure.

The Silver Cataphracts were an odd Legion, to say the least. To see such blatant hatred for the Imperium and other Legions, yet still remain loyal throughout the heresy is profound.

The world of Rosskan is bulging at the seams with humanity, as the cities climb high into the sky and deep into the earth. Millions attempted to join the ranks of the Cataphracts upon their arrival. Those in the Legion not from Rosskan were made into Rosskans, if this makes sense. Before departing with his Legion, Alexandri would not trust those who had not come from his world. They spent a full year, out of their armor or weapons, attempting to survive in the outside world. This had huge effect of humbling the proud Astartes, if extremely bizarre by our imaginations. Some grew to be minor bosses in the underground, others became survivalists, joining the ranks of the other outcasts among the Rosskans. Whatever they may have become in the meantime after the year all those still alive were brought back into the Legion.

Changes were made based on how well the Astartes did for themselves. Purists who refused to take 'practical' or 'logical' courses of action were left demoted in the ranks. Those who showed 'ingenuity' and 'pragmatism' were put into positions of leadership. This establishes the logic used for the rest of the Legion's history, and its continuation as a Chapter. Those who believe that the time spent in the forest with your equipment is all the Legion went through to become assimilated into Rosskan, you are sorely mistaken. It was only the beginning of the merciless attitude Alexandri took with his Legion.
>>
>>34477466
Who are their main legion foes? One would seem to be the Mastadontii. The Mastadontii also come from a cold world, but they are all vehicle-based, and optimistic by nature, where the Silver Cataphracts are pessimistic and fatalistic. Which is funny, the optimists side with chaos while the pessimists stay loyal to the Emperor.

The Mastadontii are an Ice-World Tank Legion. Tanks and More Tanks. They had the second largest armour pool aside from the Machinist Legion, tens of thousands of Predators, Fellblades, Sicarans and Land Raiders.

Their Primarch s a Space-Inuit/Siberian, so the traditional Russian/Arctic antipathy could be good to mine stuff from.

It is no secret now that Alexandri saw his Legion with open distrust and out right contempt. The same can be said of the Cataphracts for their Primarch! So long as these attitudes stayed at simple hatred however, peace was maintained. The Cataphracts took their role as Astartes with a mixture of solemn acceptance and dour pride. They believed in abandoning idealism and morality to seek out ultimate victory. The many worlds to be sieged by the Cataphracts came to learn this as no thunderous assault ever occurred, no glorious charge. Rosskar was in their blood, cold and furious, pumping into twin frozen hearts.

The Imperial Army raised few forces from Rosskar despite the multitude of citizens upon the surface. This is because of Alexandri's secret policy of still technically accepting candidates who could not become Astartes. As previously said, millions attempted to sign on to join the Astartes, and most were brought on. The industry of the Rosskan people helped arm these many auxiliaries for the Legion. These regular forces were used to great effect in sieges, serving as extra troops to assist in assaults and help with the occupations process. This attitude extends to now with the Imperial Guard. A general camaraderie is had between the Cataphracts and the average soldier because of this.

Alexandri saught out worlds he could transform to help fund his Legion. Places with high populations and unrealized industrial output or low population high, resource rich worlds. He carved out a small fiefdom which continuously funded the expansion of his auxiliary forces and Legion. It is also not a secret that the Cataphracts lied about their true numbers often, which turned out to be a boon during the heresy. Always loyal, whenever the Imperium called for help, Alexandri came with the full weight of his astral realm.

Well Darius is the loyalist sorcerer but me and Gaspard agreed that we were space-bros. Lumey didn't so much as hate psykers and magic so much as he simply rejected their philosophies and practices in favor of cold logic. Gespard didn't like Voidwatcher since he constantly tried to press his views onto Gespard and prove himself right, while Darius on the other hand accepted Gespard's beliefs and encouraged him to make his own opinions and decisions as he did with all his brothers. Darius and Gespard often had length academic and philosophical discussions.

>>34477466
I don't know what you have done with the legion, but are they at least still siegers?

I'd written them to take part in the Crucible as the story with the Bulwark...

If they aren't Siegers, did someone else include a new legion that is?

I though the Falcus Cobalt were going to be taken over cos they were completely unused...
>>

Let me post what has always helped me write when times were tough. It is the philosophy I will always believe in.

>Write. Don't talk about writing. Don't tell me about your wonderful story ideas. Don't give me a bunch of "somedays." Plant your ass and scribble, type, keyboard. If you have any talent at all, it will leak out despite your failure to pay attention in English. And if you didn't pay attention, learn. A carpenter needs to know how to use a hammer, level, saw, and so forth. You need to know how to use the tools of writing. Because, no, the editor won't fix it up. S/he will just chunk your thing in the shit heap and go on to somebody who can put together an English sentence with an appropriate sprinkle of punctuation marks.

From the author, Glen Cook. That last part is why I'll always be a stickler for my own mistakes. Anyways because I love stirring the pot. I'll post three story ideas.

1. The Mastodontii and Cataphracts disagree on how to take a particularly strong planet which simply doesn't want to join the Imperium, and are perfectly fine despite this. Told from the perspective of an Imperial Army Commander and a Cataphracts Auxiliary.
2. The Cataphracts piss off the Emperor with their fiefdom's expansion. Told from Alexandri's perspective.
3. Alexandri speaks for the psykers at Nikaea.
4. A squad of Imperial Army soldiers share some watch duty with a Cataphract Legionnarie.

>>34477775
Huh? Yes they are still very much siegers. It is part of their whole battle doctrine. They are pargmatic, altruistic siegers.
>>
>>34477802
If he really hates The Voidwatcher, maybe Gaspard enters the debate with the intention of only arguing for regulation and over-extends himself out of bile?
>>
>>34477816
2. No, 3. No... damn it, I can't decide.
>>
>>34477816

Ya I kinda helped set the Silver Cataphracts to take part in "The Crucible", where you and the Steel Marhsall's have to fight your way through a series of Bulwark super forts in order to leave the Ultima Segmentum.
>>
>>34477816

So the Cataphracts make their own realm. What happens to it during the Heresy? Would it suffer like the War Scribes realm, which the Zealots and Sons of Fire burned to the ground?
>>
>>34477792
okay.
>>34477702
>>34477816

well, GOOD NEWS comrade!
Your legion takes part in a crazy multiple planet siege against an anti-thesis rival legion - the Bulwark.

you were present for when their primarch was discovered and wrecked their shit when they said no the Emprah.
And then you and the Steel Marshals at the time of the Heresy/Siege of Terra end up in Stalingrad-esque siege warfare, but with you as an attacker.

All the primarchs have to die - so I'd written that the Bulwark Primarch slays the Steel Marshals Primarch, then you slay the Bulwark Primarch later in the war, but with his last hate filled breathe he detonates a bomb that fucks the Cataphract Primarch up, but doesn't kill him, destorys a lot of his body, and just leaves him in a deep coma. (all the primarchs have to go awol or die for the grimdark to set in to the setting)

could you work that end into your fluff okay?
The rest is great, and you have a rival legion (The Bulwark) and a friend Legion (Steel Marshals).
>>
>>34477860

I think the general idea from previous threads was that the Silver Cataphracts agree to come to aid the Emperor, but due to certain events they are forced to fight their way through the Crucible to do so, and in the end are too late to make it to Terra. However this was before Alexandri really started fleshing out his legion today so I guess its his call if he wants his legion to follow the original plan.
>>
>>34477888
The Silver Cataphracts don't have to be friends with the Steel Marshals to fight alongside them.
>>
>>34477860
RussiaDark scenario: the Crucible is set in the Silver Cataphracts realm and they have to burn their own worlds. Alexandri?
>>
>>34477914
very true, they were both just siege legions.
Maybe just a healthy respect and friendly one-ups-manship then.
>>
>>34477929
that makes no sense man - the Bulwark are the anti-thesis to siegers. They build fortresses as a means of attacking.
The Cataphracts are a siege attacker force.
The Crucible is set up by the Bulwark as its this AU's iron cage.
>>
>>34477950
It makes sense to me, perhaps I didn't explain it properly? The Bulwark invade and fortify the 'phracts' realm while Alexandri is off crusading. It would be particularly funny if this caused the Steel Marshals some moral quandries while the Silver Cataphracts racked up civilian casualties like they were going to serve as a tie-breaker.
>>
>>34477853
I read the story before writing anything.

I don't see anything I have typed that contradicts the story in question.

>>34477888
I'd rather have Alexandri die to the thing he so much tried to avoid, being assassinated. Actually, wait. He survives the fucking bomb! He's extremely wounded but conscious. After the Heresy, after everything else. After living where so many perished and died, Alexandri dies in the most anticlimactic way possible. A simple assassination attempt from a sniper, possibly a traitor element from within his realm. Possibly from within the Legion. Much to think about, I won't go into rambling unless you want to hear it.

Oh yeah, and what do you think of this idea?
>>34477914
Saying the Cataphracts have friends is stretching. They just have people they hate less. This guy gets it:

>>34477897
>>34477934
>>34477980
These are good ideas and I will write and support them.

In other news, can I get a consensus on the next story to write?
>>
>>34477816

1. What os the name of the Catapracts Auxilia? In canon, we have forces like the Calibanian Jaegers (Dark Angels), Selucid Thorkites (Iron Warriors), Aettguard (Space Wolves), Prosperine Spireguard (Thousand Sons) and the various Ultramar Regiments.

>>34477987
I have Gaspard Lumey on the brain right now, and I've remembered that he's meant to still be around in M41 (though spending almost all of his time in stasis, only emerging to terrorize his descendants). I wonder if, after butting heads at Nikaea and generally being the most disagreeable Primarchs, Alexandri and Gaspard end up the last two Loyalists alive and about, and have a kind of Adams/Jefferson correspondence about the Great Crusade, the Heresy, and the aftermath? Never quite becoming friends, but simply forced to communicate because nobody else can understand their lives.
>>
>>34477987

Ah okay, I just didn't want to force you into events you didn't want to be a part of. Not sure what you could write next. No ones really touched the Great Crusade if you want to do some stuff about that.
>>
>>34478026

They're Russian, right? So Rosskar Strelky, or Rosskar Razvedki.

Alliteration
>>
>>34478039
Not sure, but if Alexandri was still alive, his ambition would drive him to crown himself Emperor and rid himself of the High Lords. I think it is best for the setting, and everyone else, that this doesn't happen. He'd only plunge the galaxy further into war as a result of his mad brilliance.

I wanted to show that even with the extreme powers given to the Primarchs, even when they aren't crazy or have bad childhoods filled with slavery and death, and even if they can be perfectly normal above average childhoods, their skill and power will ultimately lead them to disaster. Or maybe that is just Alexandri, who soar too far into the heavens.

>>34478052
>Rosskar Strelky
Yep, that is the name. Stealing it.
>>
>>34478082
I think that kinda works, though you're right that Alexandri needs to die before starting another civil war. Still, if he is planning to become Emperor and the only other Primarch is Lumey, there's a strong incentive to feel the guy out before launching a coup. Going over history (especially _that_ history) is pretty leading, and with the Cataphracts and Rosskar shot up from the Crucible, there'd be time for the softly-softly approach.
>>
>>34477980
Still doesnt make sense because the Bulwark aren't chaos - they go renegade at the heresy, not knowing whose side to pick and decide to stay out of it.
The Crucible only happens because Uriel and the Children misinform the Bulwark Primarch as to why the Marhals and Cataphracts are approaching his little ultramar super-fortified space empire.

The Space russians can still give the Marshal moral quandries by butchering civilians etc.
But for a defensive minded, garrison style legion to suddenly go on the offensive is a huge unexplained change of character.

>>34477987
na thats pretty good - just make it kind of hushed up - like how Stalin removed people from history. Obviously you cant remove a Primarch from the annals, but have his successor notKruschev or whoever kind of skim over Alexandri's death with vague stuff, that could even imply he was behind it... That would fit with the fluff you made about strong and cruel is respected and tolerated, and would give him an anti-climactic death...

I'm fine with you not being friends with the Marshals - just the Bulwark are rivals, if thats okay?

>>34478082
>>34478002
why not the Red Guard?
He basically had a soviet revolution from the White Tsarist family he was raised by.
>>
>>34478173
>doesnt make sense because the Bulwark aren't chaos - they go renegade at the heresy

Ah, now I understand. OK, thanks.
>>
>>34478147
...do you think Lumey is enough of a bastard, to see that the Cataphracts lied about their numbers and even then didn't lose that many forces compared to those who fought in the thick of the Heresy, and he KNEW how Alexandri was...do you think he'd be a big enough bastard to call the hit on him, to make it look like the same old fanatics who had been trying to kill him for centuries?
>>
>>34478173

Then that was my fuck up since I had it down as Hektor sending the Bulwark to build the Crucible as a way of delaying the chapters stuck in Ultima Segmentum.
>>
>>34478173

Strelky is the soviet word Strelkovy, which was used in the context of the Red Guard as one in the same.
>>
>>34478173
You have given me a new idea to add onto this one: >>34478188

Lumey consults with the Cataphracts First Captain about the necessity for peace and stability now that Emperor is dead in the wake of the heresy. The weakened, delirious and demoralized Alexandri is easy pickings before he can move onto his plans of improving the rights of psykers in the Imperium and slowly changing how the Imperial worlds operate to be more logical, and to have more educated populace so to avoid another dark age.

How does that sound?
>>
>>34478188
Without a doubt. He'd have killed nicer guys than Alexandri if he thought it was keeping the Empire safe.

In fact, Lumey would probably have made a rope out of kitten skin and strangled his friend Darius with it, if he thought that would keep the Empire safe.
>>
>>34478243
No, Lumey isn't that kind of bastard. He wouldn't make a grab for power himself, because he believes that power corrupts everyone it touches. (Exception for the Emperor, but, y'know - it's the Emperor!)
>>
>>34478276
It wasn't a grab for power, it was approaching a fellow loyalist who is fine with the status quo about getting rid of someone who wants change. The only kind of change someone can bring by being in charge. Which Alexandri has shown you will become through extreme effort and whatever means necessary.

Fuck, he's some crazy cross between Ivan the Terrible and Lenin.
>>
>>34478188
that would be more of the Childrens schtick, but I'm not sure of a motivation as to why just yet

Maybe if you succeed that would unbalance our hold we just caused an entire heresy to attain...
Lumey would still be the fall guy for us, so you could think it was him when he is actually innocent..

>>34478207
no worries anon. I just spent a long while writing the Bulwark up from what they had, it makes sense that people *read* the fluff we do establish, otherwise all we do is run in circles revising everything..
Not that things that are written are set in stone - but we're trying to outdo GW, if we dont know our own source material we can't do better than the BL HH team..

>>34478243
Well I have no problem with it, but it should be remembered that you two aren't the only Primarchs alive post heresy, but see my first reply on this post - something of a mix-up of this idea and the one i'm proposing would work...

Maybe Lumey and Alexandri are both looking to take advantage of the post heresy chaos for their own political gain, but the Ultramarine role played by the War Scribes means they come out on top and fix everything while you two compete behind the scenes.. ?

Dont forget that the Scribes fix up the imperium in current fluff..
>>
Okay chaps, here's the thing. I really like the suggestion of Bohemond's background being

>Well, your name screams "CRUSADE!!!" to me, so Bohemond probably grew up on a feudal world. Maybe set him as the pious knight in service of the Church, who unites the temporal realm so that it can benefit from a Not!Christian ruler?

I like the idea of questing and being pious, but surely that's kinda heretical?
>>
>>34478332
Why do people assume Lumey is doing anything more than replacing Alexandri in this? He's not using some kind of puppet, he is just removing a possibly future threat through careful planning.
>>
>>34478315
Oh, don't get me wrong. The scenario is fine up until Lumey starts doing things. If all the other Primarchs were dead or gone, he'd slink into his stasis field so that he could avoid corruption before the Emperor's return.

Which makes Lumey a paranoid cross between Roland and Robespierre.
>>
>>34478350
If you believe it before meeting the Emperor, it's an honest mistake and Bohemond can renounce the mumbo-jumbo while keeping the virtuous servant stuff.
>>
>>34478357
>Why do people assume Lumey is doing anything more than replacing Alexandri in this?

I think it was the reference to plans in >>34478243. It's cool, we're working things through.
>>
>>34478357
well then that sounds like the Childrens sort of thing - safeguarding our own silent monopoly.

We could use Lumey as the fall guy though - so your legion thinks it was lumeys work.
Or just regular assassins.
Whatever works for you.
>>
>>34478383

Excellent. Time to get scribblin
>>
>>34478421
Lumey's my idea, and I'm telling you he'd shank Alexandri in broad daylight if that's what it took. Just because the Children are responsible for a lot of Terrible Things, it doesn't follow that they have a monopoly on Being Bad.

Roses Crush the Best
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn7rYISuUpw

Rosean, an oceanic world covered nearly entirely with water with a small continent containing its only landmass which only accounts for seventeen percent of the total surface area. The people of Rosean possessed an advanced form of laser technology they had devised after years of isolation. The sudden appearance of the Imperium was at first met with glee, but demands for compliance soon found the small system and the solar empire at war.

The amassed fleet sits behind one of the two moons of the planet. Heated debate has paralyzed the reclamation force for a week now. It has gotten serious, or else they wouldn't be calling her up. The Lacunan Lifewatch had been posted with the 66th Expedition Fleet with the intention of bringing back less than welcoming human worlds into the loving embrace of the Imperial Truth. But no one had requested the Major General's presence except if they needed someone to break a tie...

The Astartes gave orders. They didn't hold meetings that involved the common soldiery, normally. The elevator climbed the many floors of 'Rosskar's Frown' in a flash, reaching the war room with a few minutes to spare before she was supposed to arrive. There were no windows in this section of the ship, as it was in the very heart of the numerous layers of plasteel and ceramite that made the ship.

Stepping with her right foot out, she stride forward with gloved hands in her coat pocket ever closer to the sounds of bickering Astartes. "Major General Francia?"The question came from her left. The man appeared to be young, but that told you nothing. Rejuvenant treatments were commonplace among the upper echelon of the Imperial Army. His uniform was a dulled white, that of snow. It was nothing remarkable, which was remarkable. It didn't have flashy glint or elaborate designs, but it didn't look like he made it back at his backwater of a homeworld either.

"I am Major General Alexey, of the Rosskar Strelky," It was only polite to greet one's comrade with a handshake, right? Francia didn't think so, and the gesture died between them. "You're the Silver's dogs, huh?"
"Excuse me, miss?"
"You heard what I said. Your men don't think the Army is good enough for you, I understand."
The young-looking man was taken aback. He found his footing though, replying with a curt, "I did not expect you to be such a bitch."
A smug grin formed on the Lifeguard's commander. "There it is. Old Rosskan fire. Don't waste with the kindness, please. I know your people don't waste time with it, and I don't either. Can we agree to be honest with each other? We have enough to deal with the Astartes. Alright?"
It appeared as if a weight was lifted off of Alexey's shoulders. He slouched his back, pulling out a small winter cap to place on his head. "Glad we can find agreement even when others cannot." The yelling of the Captains still rung in the hallway.
"Let's go inside before they notice we're late."

It is an odd place to be between demi-gods. They are giants within armor to make a tank blush, wielding weaponry and strength not able to be conceived by the average soldier. The Lifeguard had fought for three campaigns alongside the Mastodontii, becoming quite accustomed to their tactics and strategies. Alexey had been raised from birth to assume his role as supreme commander of the Strelky, the grand auxiliary forces who support the Silver Cataphracts in their endeavors.

Currently First Captain Starikov 'Da Star' was having the same argument he'd been in with the damn Primarch of the Mastodontii, Tollund Ötztal. The Great Hunter.

As always, Starikov presented his case with the vigor and frozen fury of most Rosskans, "Those lasers will make a convention assault impossible. We'll have a hard enough time organizing out fleet to the orbit of the world so we aren't destroyed by surface-to-stellar batteries! We must move before more satellite defenses can be mustered! They've made another dozen in the time you've been having your 'talks'."

"Those discussions," always Tollund had a way with words that completely enraptured Francia, "As you so easily dismiss could lead to a completely peaceful solution. Even while that may fail, we are exploring completely bypassing those satellites and batteries by contacting sympathetic elements with Rosean. If you would only give it time, my brother."

"You! Are not! My fucking brother!" Starikov slams his Bolter into the table, smashing it and the weapon in two. "You will not see what is clearly necessary in front of you! This world has huge populations of algae which can be harvested to feed worlds which struggle to survive. And you want to preserve a few million when billions could suffer from our inaction? I have damn patience, but not the patience. To do. Nothing!"
>>
>>34478710
I see it. Also, what do you think of my portrayal of Tollund so far?

If it had been any other Primarch Starikov would either be dead or demoted by now. Always his fiery temperament had brought him to blows with his own Primarch, who admired him for the tenacity that grew within him. Alexey had come to expect it by now, but he never lived in fear of it. Despite the rage Starikov never succumbed to it. No one had ever been hurt by it, except maybe Starikov himself.

Tollund in regular expected fashion took the bluster and anger without a beat lost. The debate continued for hours, with what to do about this possibility or that outcome or any possible result of their actions. Starikov attempted to out think Tollund, to bring cold reason and hard facts into the equation. While Tollund spoke circles around the furious Captain by showing the clear virtue of handling this with the least amount of blood shed possible.

"The Imperium needs every soul. That includes our own and those of whom we wish to incorporate. You cannot rush progress, Captain."

Alexey spoke up at last, "Yes you can, Primarch. That is exactly what the Imperium is doing. That is what the Imperail Truth is, and that is the entirety of the Rosskan people's history for the past few centuries. Progress obtained from pure will and might."
>>
>>34478769

>>
>>34478803
The room fell silent. A Captain out speaking to the Primarch, this was a possibility. A human outright speaking against him, correcting him, and calling him wrongful was. It gave Francia more than plenty of reasons to take a few steps to the side when Tollund turned about. Instead of a angry glare, a friendly smile looked down upon the Strelky's Major General. "You agree with the Cataphracts philosophy? Not surprising. But you do not have authority here, despite being in such a prominent position within the militia forces of Rosskar. I will let you speak your mind, go on."

"Well, the Roseans obviously do not wish to be part of the Imperium. Their continued deployment of satellites, and the fact we much reach out to fringe groups and extremists to find support displays the sad fact that the majority of the population support this anti-Imperial sentiment. We must act quickly, as Starikov says. Not because he is a Silver Cataphract, but because every satellite represents another thousand or more crewmen dying in the upcoming void battle."

Francia stepped from the shadows to speak out against her colleague, before Tollund was able to reply. The Primarch saw the look in the woman's eyes, and happily allowed her the room. "So, you think just because we can't see the extent of the Pro-Imperial Rosean sentiment, we can't be sure that we could avoid even a space battle? We're talking about millions of lives, an advanced civilization that could even teach us something. This world deserves some time to allow us to reach out to them. If the Imperium struck out at the first signs of resistance, Rosskar would be ashes right now."

>>
>>34478886
>>34478886
All debate was ended with the sound of thunder. A figure marched into the room that demanded immediate reverence and respect from everyone except Primarch Tollund. It was Alexandri, dressed in green and white with a golden power maul in one hand, a lighting claw in the other. His face bore a great, massive long brown beard that ran down the front of his huge suit of armor. The Silver Cataphracts progenitor seemed full of glee as he surveyed the room. "Sorry!" His voice boomed in the room, a making the soft voice of Tollund appear like a faint whisper. "The warp is a fickle mistress. Anyways, my forces have already taken up position on the opposite moon. Those lasers! Dear, they nearly sniped by shuttlecraft. Let us all be thankful they aren't that accurate? Haha!"

Starikov signed heavily, looking to his Primarch with a mix of annoyance and barely concealed anger, "I'm going to say you had a few on the way, didn't you, Alexandri?"
"Perhaps so, perhaps not. Where is my favorite nephew though?"
Alexey smiled wide at his Uncle, speaking up, "Here."
"Aaah! Alexey! I'm glad to see you, we must meet somewhere else when this is all over!"
Tollund actually grew annoyed by his fellow Primarch's actions. He wanted to speak with his brother on how best to solve the Rosean problem. Hopefully with his wise council, they would be able to avoid the complications experienced between himself and Starikov. "Brother, please. Could we speak about Rosean?"
Alexandri turned to face his brother, "What about that shit heap of a world?"
"How are we going to deal with it!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6g1PevHvUs#t=150

Starikov would never forget the look on Alexandri's face as he spoke the words, "It has already been dealt with, brother."

Fucking Wank. Ok, I've fixed the map. Pleaseeverybody, don't let that happen again. Ok, we've got an opening that needs filling now. We need another Loyalist Legion for the first wave.

Also, do we have the Silver Spears and Heralds of Hektor sigils yet?

Writing up stuff for the Saturn Campaign. Appreciate any ideas, comments, or participation offers.

The SATURNIAN & JOVIAN CAMPAIGNS - Sub-front of the Battle of Terra

(Would like it if another legion or two would get involved; the discussion/planning bits are gone with the old thread, and we never actually committed much of this to writing as yet; doing so now.)

Terra and Mars were not the only theatres of significance in the Sol system, with the Jovian and Saturnian moons also important strategic objectives for other sides. Europa, Titan, Enceladus, Ganymede, and a handful other moons were fairly well populated, and also host to plethora industries or mining ventures that would be extremely useful for the maintenance of the war effort in the system. The massive gas mining stations which orbited Saturn since the Dark Age of Technology were especially valued, and much of the fuel for the Emperor’s vessels originated from these massive archaeotech refineries.

It was thus unsurprising that the Voidwatcher moved to secure these facilities promptly after his arrival in the system. Riding a high from their victory in the Isstvan system, they swept aside the various local forces present, established a security cordon around Saturn and its moons, and secured the majority of the facilities. With full control of the spacelanes not yet entirely established, the Black Augurs were forced to pull away the majority of their space-based forces to deal with emergent threats on the outer end of the star system, where loyalist forces were still a nuisance.
>>
>>34479070
It was during this critical moment when the Thunder Kings arrived, running the blockade around Charon and forcing a sizable contingent of Black Augurs into pursuit. Four tribes, totalling some seventy-thousand marines between them, preceded their Primarch in breaking into Sol; making for Terra on a very direct axis of approach. Unfortunately for the Loyalists, the disposition of Traitorous forces was such that it proved impossible to approach Terra so readily, and so the majority of Thunder King forces would be forced to remain in the outer star system for the majority of the Battle of Terra.

Commander Anibalos took the Bleeding Crowns and the Grinning Ghosts tribes, totalling some forty-thousand marines, and deposited them along the moons of Saturn while Commander Cnaios took the Mountain Breakers and the Star-Eaters, totalling another thirty-five thousand, to Jupiter’s moons. Despite the advantage in numbers traitorous forces enjoyed in space, their need to maintain ships at the system’s peripheries to intercept Loyalist reinforcements as well as to blockade the various worlds they were besieging, allowed the Thunder Kings fleet to remain relatively intact. It was never able to establish even local space superiority, on account of the sizable Black Augurs fleet presence, but the clever use of both Saturn’s and Jupiter’s depleted rings in hiding the Thunder Kings fleet would allow for its intermittent use in operational offensives throughout the duration of the conflict.

Of all the other moons, Titan and Ganymede would prove to be the most contested. As important transit points for much of the material the gas refining stations put out, as well as possessing many such refining facilities themselves, they were highly sought after by both sides. The initial Thunder Kings landings managed to overwhelm the standing Black Augurs garrisons in much the same manner as they themselves had overwhelmed the mortal defenders, and so resecured the moons.
>>
>>34479080
However, they soon faced a concerted counter-attack and invasion by the Black Augurs. It was to turn into a moon-hopping campaign, with both sides jumping from moon to moon in an attempt to take strategic points before their enemy--or to seize them when an opportunity presented itself from their enemy. No better example exists than Silacos’ gambit, when the Commander of the Star-Eaters tribe opportunistically left a skeleton garrison on Europa, gathered the majority of the Thunder Kings fleet, and scattered his forces across the outer Jovian moons while the Mountain Breakers were defending Ganymede. For a brief while, at least, the control of the defense batteries on those outer moons provided the Thunder Kings space superiority in that front of the theatre.
>>
>>34479041
Tollund's face didn't have time to match up with the horror and revulsion as he uttered the words, "What did you just say?"
"Yes, I had my flagship push the lesser moon into the sea. The tidal wave caused will sink the Rosean continent underneath the sea. The problem has been dealt with."

The room went silent. Both sides having been shocked by this act. Starikov was disgusted, Alexey was horrified. While others were left simply stunned Francia charged ahead to stand before the armored bulk of the Primarch. Her words spat forth like venom, her eyes filled with anger, "You act without the rest of us? You are callous, cruel man who only cares for his own judgement! How can you expect to-"
One swat was all it took for Alexandri to rip her into several parts with his power claw. For someone so tall, so hefty, it only took him a split second to end a life in a moment. A flick of the wrist. "Tollund," Alexandri said flexing his surging blades, " See in the future that you keep better discipline amongst your ranks. I will not suffer an insult like that again. Alexey! Let's go shoot something! I'm sure there must be something to hunt in the underholds!"

This is when Starikov, and Tollund, first began to truly despise Alexandri.

The End.

>Many years later, during the Scouring

Alexandri gripped his blade as he stared up at the colossus that had once been his brother. Tollund was a Centaur, his body that of an enraged mastodon with armoured plates clamped to it, his torso that of the Primarch he once had been, though six great tusks jutted from his chest. His spear was a massive, mighty thing, etched with Chaos runes. A weapon that could spear a void-whale with a single blow.

“The Dark Gods have rewarded me Alexandri,” the daemon-prince whispered, “and now it is time for you to suffer, as every man, woman and child who dwelt on Rosean suffered. Your brutal ways are nothing next to the brutality the Gods have shown me. Only through them will humanity survive.”
>>
>>34479096
I'm starting to think that the Void Angels should turn up here, after most of the fun has been had, almost as though Lumey only bothered to join the Loyalists for the sake of smacking Black Augurs.
>>
>>34479217
Hey, that's a great idea. It could be a point of contention in future relations between the Thunder Kings and Void Angels, right?

"We did all the work, and you boys just showed up to take all the glory," sort of thing, I reckon.

The way I figure it is that the Jovian & Saturnian campaigns were important enough that the presence of a legion was probably required, but there likely wasn't a whole lot of prestige in it both during and after the Heresy. Brennus himself would have gone on to fight on Terra when he arrived, leaving his boys around Jupiter and Saturn to settle their own affairs.

Any feedback to give before I sleep?

Also, guys, the Primarch discovery order is different on the .doc and the /tg/ 1d4chan wiki. We should probably figure out which one is the "right" one.

It's pretty good. You probably want to come back and re-write some sections after you've rested, but there's no point in trying to do that now. Francia probably gets to speak for too long if you want to say her death is sudden.

Tolland was a nice guy, but he fell, and he fell hard. He's like a Glacair. Slow to anger, slow to rouse, slow to bring to despair, but once brought to that point, unstoppable, crushing everything in his path, with a cold, relentless fury.

Plus I always wanted him to turn into a Daemon-Prince Mastodon-Centaur like Pic Related. He fell so far, that his former ideals were naught but dreams to him.

holy shit that's awesome
I'm gonna contribute by drawing something from the wiki
>>
>>34479371
Sure thing. I only used the other handle because I've done more with Second Founding Chapters than with Lumey & co.
>>
>>34479425
Where exactly is this 2nd Founding stuff? I'd like to add to it somewhat if it's collected somewhere as yet. Doesn't seem to be on the wiki or doc.
>>
>>34479371
By the way, I think the Iron Rangers should end up clashing with the Scale Bearers, maybe in a sequence of running engagements? Both need to get tied up so they miss other battles.
>>
>>34479412

You're the first Primarch to get an official portrait. And what a portrait! I swear that Drawfag is the woman who works for FW in disguise. The art is exactly the same as the official art.
>>
>>34479425
Oh, shit, I mostly meant people who were posting as anonymous, I thought you were just taking charge in general when you were posting as Second Founding, didn't realize you were one of the Legion founders...
>>
>>34479453
It's in the wiki. See the "Notable Successors" sub-entries for Nova Defenders and War Scribes.
>>
>>34479463
No big thing. Second Founding is less about taking charge and more about encouraging. (At least, most people like it when they hear that their Legion is so awesome someone wants to do a spin-off.)
>>
>>34479458
Hey, that's fine. We've had a huge number of ideas bouncing around for where I was during Terra (fucking up Mars, bouncing around the galaxy with one of several different loyalists on my tail, etc.)
Personally, I think my Primarch would be much more likely to be running amok on Mars, or it would take some serious convincing/ordering to keep him from there, but I'm not opposed to be used as a distracting effort for one or more loyalist legions.
>>
>>34479492
Apparently Tiran is happy to get killed on the way to Istvaan V, so if you want to add "killed a Primarch" to Merrill's achievements...

Otherwise, yeah, Mars is a cool place, hang out on Mars and see the sights.
>>
Man, this has exploded since I last checked. Wish I hadn't had work keeping me from jumping in.

So what's currently happening, and is there a cliffs notes version of the textdump on the wiki to get up to speed fast?
>>
>>34479527
Right now we're fairly settled on a list of Legions and are working them up. Some need more work than others. A bit of Second Founding has happened, so if you see a Codex Legion you like, get stuck in on expanding their theme outwards. No cliff notes, and the wiki/google doc thing has created a bit of confusion.
>>
>>34479516
Thought I wasn't a part of Istvaan V.
It also wouldn't be a good use of the Legion's skills, as it was a rather large and protracted battle.
>>
I think right now we need to still iron out events just prior to the siege of Terra. All the legions need meaningful things.
>>
Also, how's this for my pre-Emperor background?
Upon his landing on Profi Tiroedd, he was found by one of the local tribes, who raised him as their own, and gave him his name. They taught him the necessities of living in the forest. How to hunt, track, gather food, and how to fight. However, his tribe was one of the smallest and weakest, and so, had to stay constantly on the run, else be targeted for raids and attacks by other, larger tribes. Merrill was a quick learner, though, and rapidly adapted to every problem thrown his way. Eventually, though too young to be considered for the position, he was unofficially made chieftain. It was at this point he made a decision: no more running. The tribe would never again have to flee for its own safety. With that in mind, he began a number of small raids against the more warlike neighbors, burning longhouses, stealing, and destroying supplies under cover of darkness before returning to their own tribe. Eventually, this led to assassinating the leaders of this tribe that would oppose them. As he slowly destroyed the larger tribes, others came to join him. Slowly, either by diplomacy, surrender, or annihilation, he united all of the tribes under his own rule, and created a council of elders to act as advisers and lesser rulers.
>>
>>34479600
No, no, the Scale Bearers don't make it to Istvaan V. Possibly the Iron Rangers tag them, and the two Legions fight a running battle half-way across the sector as a result?
>>
>>34479622
That would make an interesting plot idea, as well. Cavalry vs. Infantry fast movers against each other...
>>
>>34479603
We didn't do anything in the Heresy pre-Terra, and didn't fight at the main event, either. That's meaningful.
>>
>>34479639
Why weren't you present for the fighting?
>>
>>34479568
Cool. I'm gonna take some time to read up then, and when I get back from the doc's office I'll see if there's anything I can contribute if you'll have me.
>>
>>34479660
All are welcome!
>>
>>34479660

If you contribute meaningfully then you're accepted, that's how this works
>>
>>34479673
Well, if/when people aren't really contributing, I can just yell at them...
>>
>>34479656
Standard story is that we had bad blood with the Loyalists and the Traitors, so neither made an approach to Lumey. So the Void Angels end up coming in at the end and taking a swipe at the guys they hate the most (Black Augurs), earning them nominal Loyalist status.

Basically, the VA are the "reflection" of the Children of Arnok, a loyalist chapter that everyone suspects instead of a traitor chapter that's thought highly reliable.
>>
>>34479705
Actually that's a pretty good idea. I do like how this is developing into more grey areas than the original story. Also adding more IRL methods and ideas.
>>
>>34479734
Well, in fairness we're kinda the Dark Angels crossed with the Space Wolves, but I'm glad you like the combination anyway.
>>
>>34479751
Maybe we should be friends rather than foes, since those seem to be what the Thunder Kings are too, to some extent.
>>
>>34479751
I actually like both of those chapters, for different reasons. One for being kind of badass, even if they are kind of dickish, and the other for being drunken space vikings who've spat in they eye of every authority figure in the Imperium. I do hate that they get more and more furry with every goddamn codex.
>>
>>34479794
At the start of the Heresy, Gaspard's only friend among the Primarchs is Darius, and I'm permitting that because Darius is the saintly patient one. We could run the fallout from the Saturn campaign in an unexpected direction and have Brennus be the guy who says, "Look, Lumey had his whole damn Legion intact and in the Heliosphere when the shooting stopped. He had us over a barrel, and he chose to hunt down the Traitors rather than take advantage."
>>
>>34479841
I can see that happening. I know Brennus was also tolerant of Darius, if not outright friendly with the guy.

That sounds good to me, I'll write that in somewhere if you don't. If you don't mind, I'll even put some stuff in about Void Angels assistance during the Saturn campaign, probably for some grand battle on Titan.
>>
>>34479841
Hmn, Zealots were at Saturn.
>>
>>34479865
On the other hand, Lumey respected Alexandri as a rational man and great planner, but he absolutely had the Silver Cataphracts' Primarch killed. (See >>34478243.) This isn't widely known, it's more for sake of understanding just what kind of guy you're proposing for one of Brennus's mates.

Feel free to write the Angels into the battle on Titan.
>>
Urgh, I hate writing backstory, but here it is.

Bohemond's upbringing took place on the feudal world of Hydegate. He was claimed by a martial order of warriors who were paid to resolve disputes by force. Their order had been founded with the idea that justice was something available to all, but over generations the warriors had succumbed to avarice and would only aid the wealthy or powerful. Whilst Bohemond revelled in the training and the martial lifestyle, his soul ached to shed blood for a reason far greater than temporal wealth, and thus one day he left the warriors to travel the world and take up arms as a wandering knight of justice. Largely ignored by society as a whole, he travelled far and wide trying to fill the whole in his soul until one night he set camp in the wilderness. A stranger approached Bohemond as he sat at his fire, and Bohemond bid the stranger sit. The stranger noted Bohemond was a warrior, and asked what Bohemond would do to bring justice to all humans. Bohemond laughed, assuming the stranger mean just the people of his planet, and said that he was trying to do just that. At this point the stranger began to shine in a brilliant light, revealing a power figure that was the Emperor of All Mankind.
>>
>>34479916

The Emperor told Bohemond of the Primarchs, of the Imperium and of the Great Crusade to reunite humanity, and with every word that was spoken Bohemond's spirit was lifted and his soul was made whole for the first time. At last Bohemond had found his calling, to be a knight not just for himself but for all of humanity.

C+C please

I just changed the second half of the Ultima Segmentum campaign based on input from Uriel, Alexandri and Gaspard. I edited the wiki but posting it here as well for further review.

"At least 4 loyalists still remained in the Ultima Segmentum on the other side of the Maelstrom. With only two paths around the Maelstrom if the traitors were able to block off both ways then the loyalists would never be able to reach Holy Terra. Speaking with his brothers, Hektor dispatched Voidwatcher and his Black Augur to the south of the Maelstrom, where they would conjure a second warp storm using their sorcery that would block any from trying to pass. However there was still the northern path and so the War-master approached his brother Uriel. Knowing of Uriel's relations with Sebastian he convinced Uriel to trick Sebastian into constructing a series of super fortresses known as "The Crucible" to bar the loyalists way.

A series of battles erupted in the sector as the Loyalists indeed tried to reach Terra. The first was the Battle of Belahaam, where Darius and his Sand Keepers intercepted Voidwatcher and his Augur's in the middle of the ritual to summon the warp storm. After a pitched battle Darius was ultimately unable to stop the spell was swallowed into the storm. With Voidwatchers success the remaining 2 loyalists, the Steel Marshalls and the Silver Cataphrants were forced to slowly fight their way through the Bulwark Crucible. In the final assault both Sebastian and Alexandri are killed, and though the loyalists triumph they are too late to help Terra. "
>>
>>34479916
He needs to do more than this. Rook North gets away with not conquering his world because there's nothing to really conquer. Bohemond should assemble a mighty army of justice and forge a world-girdling empire.

I had an Idea for a successor to the scions of europa
the idea is that they're pretty much the penultimate tactical operator marines
the design is suppossed to be urban camo, but B&C doesn't do it much justice
they're supposed to have the most advanced stuff: silenced bolters, laser sights, bullpups, Infrared Goggles, active camo, etc.
they're special forces so they can be deployed anywhere, but they specialize in urban warfare.
if you can't tell they're based on modern special forces

I guess what I'm going for is without having a grand purpose, such as the Emperor and the Imperium, Bohemond never really amounted to much. Sure he had vague concepts of "justice" and the fact that fighting for money alone wasn't enough, but when the Emperor tells Bohemond what he really is and gives him the "yer a Primarch" speech something inside him clicks and he becomes the justice-driven zealot that we've established so far.
>>

I wrote up a snippet on it for the doc.

Basically, I imagine it to have gone on prior to and simultaneously with the battles on Terra and Mars themselves. The moons were relatively populated, and there were a bunch of important facilities there (mainly gas mining from the gas giants) which would heartily fuel the war effort, especially with Mars so terribly ravaged. It was a campaign of moon-hopping and trading, with the moons and various facilities on them trading hands quite readily and rapidly.

Wrote up a bit about it in the doc.

>What is the Void Angels defining talent?

Reason. Lumey is a bastard but he's methodical and consistent. His misdeeds make sense, he alienates people by telling the truth, and he even applies his thing about not trusting the Primarchs to himself.
>>
>>34480020

The Emperor must trust Bohemond, as he is the Emperor's tool of censure when it comes to the Zealots.
>>
>>34480020
Make that an internal perception. Bohemond feels that he hasn't accomplished anything. Yes, he could maintain justice among men - within his sight. Or between nations - under his sword. But he could long for more and only feel that he is truly making a just 'world' under the Emperor's guidance.
>>
'''The Great Crusade'''

Merrill decided to keep the original title of the chapter, as he believed anything else would be insulting to the men that had served in the Legion before his discovery. He also discovered that he could create intricate overarching strategies involving hundreds or thousands of small moving pieces extremely well, however could not wrap his mind around any single battles requiring more than a company. With that in mind, he requested for, and was approved of, a fleet of Imperial Army soldiers. He would use his regular soldiers to bolster their fighting capabilities and dispense advice to their command structure, relieving him of having to plan and read large-scale engagements, so he could move his men around the planet like a Regicide board, to strike their most valuable assets. During this time, he achieved a close personal relationship with the representatives of the Adeptas Mechanicus. He slowly became more and more obsessed with always creating better equipment for his men, or upgrading that which they already possessed. During a diplomatic mission to a stray Human colonial planet, an STC was discovered, with what was believed to be an AI for targeting, strategic and tactical advisement, friend or foe designations, and other battlefield aids. Not wishing to wait for the STC to be confirmed as safe for use by Mars, he had it researched and studied in-house, and then installed it into all Power Armor in the Legion. Unbeknownst to all involved, it was already corrupted with the seeds of Chaos, which started taking root in the Marines through the neural link.

Hey, if that's so, reckon the Zealots could have had a place too for some epic battles. Perhaps we could have some big honking space battle within Saturn's Rings, happening coterminously to an assault on one of the massive gas mining stations in orbit around the planet?

The Battle of Huygen's Gap, where naval forces from the Eternal Zealots were able to identify one of the Thunder Kings fleet's hiding places and force them into a small divide between the concentrated asteroid rings. There, the two fought a sustained battle over a period of a week, culminating in the destruction by the routing forces of the Vintaya station--a crushing loss to both sides of a precious archaeotech installation.

I reckon that we can get along relatively well. Brennus is nothing if not patient and meticulous, very predictable in his behavior if not necessarily tactics. He is perceived as a cautious, albeit exceedingly competent commander of troops and men. Throughout the Great Crusade, he was assigned to various clean-up operations or protracted campaigns, as he was known for his ability to keep the greater strategic picture in mind throughout these long conflicts. Bit of a loner and general workaholic, really.

Aubrey Distraction Brennus until the ships are out in the open, only for Aubrey to chuckle and disappear via teleport.
>>
Well, apparently my IP is on a block list on 1d4chan. Guess I won't be doing any editing anytime soon!
>>
>>34480179
Brennus himself was actually on Terra, but the majority of the Thunder Kings were engaged in the Saturnian and Jovian campaign. Perhaps Aubrey captured some Thunder Kings relics aboard some ships or another, and this remains a point of honor between the two Legions/chapter?

Actually, I suppose I can write Brennus in as having been there; think I'll do a slight retcon and have him actively participate during the latter stages of the conflict there, what with others filling the necessary roles on Terra.
>>
>>34480126

I'm imagining a cool scene in my head where Darius and Baspard are talking about how Baspard doesn't trust any of his brothers, especially Uriel, but when Darius offers to do some divination for him Baspard declines due to his rationale. Darius happily accepts Baspards decision and says some weird proverbs about how its good to look at things from different perspectives since you might not always get the whole picture.
>>
>>34480180
Just edit the doc and we'll put your stuff into the wiki.
>>
>>34480126
Let's make them best frenemies. Gaspard and Uriel both understand themselves and their ambitions better than the other Primarchs. Gaspard keeps himself chained (eventually, in stasis) because he doesn't want to be hollowed out by power, while Uriel seeks out power because he refuses to be fettered. And they get each other as a result. There's no need to exchange words as the Heresy breaks out, even to explain what's going on. Gaspard didn't see it coming, but he knew that something like this would eventually develop. And after Terra, what's the point in exposing the Children? Nothing can be mended until the Emperor lives again.
>>
>>34480142
Thing is, "relatively well" might just mean that Brennus thinks that Gaspard is difficult and unnecessarily spiteful. Keep the improvement in relations until after the Heresy's done.
>>
>>34480216

Wasn't sure if the doc was still being followed. Cheers though, it's been added
>>

Cont....

As the infection began to grow, the need to improve their equipment with Human tech was no longer enough. They would salvage whatever they could from any campaign, returning it to their cohorts in the Mechanicus to study and understand, with the goal of integration. Eventually, the larger body of the Mechanicus caught wind of the operation, and a cease and desist was sent to Merrill and the Iron Rangers, and so, they officially stopped. They continued experimentation, but only with items which were deemed extremely valuable. Any members of the Mechanicus, outside a select few, were kept completely in the dark about what was going on. A rare few discovered the truth and found themselves victims of "accidents" before they could reveal the truth to any others.

Word eventually leaked again, though, and this time, instead of an order to stop, all their experiments were melted to scrap under the careful gaze of the Custodes. Shortly thereafter, Merrill received a heavily encrypted message from Hektor...
>>
>>34480259
That's a fair point. In the aftermath of the heresy, Brennus would have certainly seemed a fair bit more weary and bitter than he otherwise would have been. Perhaps they had a fairly cordial relationship, spending a few years cooperating in the hunting of fleeing Black Augurs and Eternal Zealots?

It'd be amusing if the Primarchs themselves were relatively friendly, but the chapters/legions themselves weren't on the best of terms.
>>
>>34480213
Use the scene to show that Gaspard actually cares about Darius's feelings, by having him show some tact. Maybe refusing the prophecy because it will only show a possible future, and he has to act on certainties?
>>
>>34480281
Ironically, after the Heresy and with Alexandri dead, Gaspard probably lightens up a little bit. (There's no immediate threat that one of the Primarchs can carry out a coup.)

Had you planned out how Dis comes for Brennus? Or does he head off into the Warp/stars?
>>
>>34480270

Nice, very good. Bit confused as to why the Custodes would melt them, surely the Emperor would send another Legion to do that?
>>
>>34480318
I was thinking that he might die some years after the Heresy. I'm not fond of the inconclusive fates some Primarchs have in the actual canon. After spending some time sorting out both his own Chapter (as it would be by then) and the Imperium, he would probably set off to attend to his usual duty--that of warfare--and perhaps perishes in battle against one of the traitor primarchs or something.

The animosity between the modern Void Angels and Thunder Kings could be because Lumey was there too, and he walked out alive while Brennus didn't.

Just need a volunteer traitor.
>>
>>34480370
Well... there is another option. If Brennus and Gaspard are left as the last two loyalist primarchs alive and present, now friends, with their legions rebuilt, it might be that Brennus proposes beginning the Great Crusade anew. Gaspard could not refuse, but - starting the Great Crusade under their own power means taking ambition into their own hands. And he knows where that ends.

"Better to die in the arms of a friend" and all that?
>>
>>34480368
Figured it would make things more personal. Cause an actual grievance with the Emperor himself, also a play on the Emperor for tact. Using the Custodes would allow them to to save some face, rather than the embarrassment of being exposed to another Legion.
Kind of like a dad, doing the whole "Look, dipshit, I told you that you can't play with this stuff, and you're doing it. I get why you want to, but there's reasons I said no."
>>
>>34480450
I'm not sure they're the only ones left. I'm not actually sure what the final fate of most of the primarchs are, but I don't think very many of them actually die during the Heresy.

Hmm I kinda wanna say Darius managed to get to Terra and make his death him literally burning himself out sitting on the golden throne in order to hold back the breach in the webway during a crucial moment in the battle. Afterwards his legion gathers his ashes, which now is magic sand and puts them in an giant intricate magic Hour glass in which the sand always flows, never reaching the bottom. The Keepers prophesize that when all the sand really does reach the bottom, it will signal the start of the endtime, in which Darius will be reborn from his ashes and the remaining loyalist primarches will return.

Pic related, Hourglass will kinda be like that, tons of extra tunnels witht he sand defying logic and gravity and just flowing all the place never reaching the bottom. Alternatively I wouldn't mind dying in either a crazy spell battle or just being burned to death by the sons of fire.
>>
>>34480213
yeah im writing some writefaggotry for it now - with one small change -
you do see the point in trying to out the Children for their shenanigans, but you also know you have no proof, and can see/guess they have taken precautions against it.
Which we secretly have - with our network of supporters, agents, informants, and sleepers in most of the Imperial government/infrastructure.

I see it as we genuinely like eachother, because we have similar outlooks/understandings of man and life, but we are frenemies due to our polarised end result - ie you think power leads to evil, while I think power is the best tool against it.

I'm writing up the idea that the Children like doing the dirty espionage work because as they see it - the ends justify the means.
Doing great evil is bad, but its okay if it causes great good in the end.

I see that as being how we get lead to Chaos...
And why we don't entirely trust Tzeentch, we just underestimate his power and skill at corruption.
>>
>>34480460
Also, thanks for the compliment. And to anyone else who wants to critique, I would appreciate it. We can always switch it to another Legion, which could set up a rivalry/reason for my guys to hate somebody...
>>
>>34480469
They aren't initially, but we could stipulate that they become the last primarchs in the Empire if you want to go with this end. (Give it a few centuries, it'll happen.)

It's an odd kind of closure for Brennus, not really betrayed, but not killed off randomly. It definitely fits Gaspard's story, but I won't push it.
>>
>>34480469
From the original, I think only Manus dies for sure. Vulkan is MIA after Istvaan V, Sanguinius dies at the hands of Horus, and there are two tellings of Istvaan III, one of which Angron is killed and immediately ascends to daemonhood.

>Basically, When Horus tells out the plan, Angron is just like "SWEET, I GET TO MURDER THINGS, I'M GOING!" And Horus is just like "You know we're setting a trap and everyone dies, right? Oh, you're already down there? Well, that just happened. Launch the virus bombs."
>>
>>34480481
>>34480368
My bad that was meant to link yo your comment.
>>
>>34480507
That would actually be a really cool set up for a small civil war/schism in the Imperium, either culminating or starting with Brennus' assassination/killing by Lumey. I'd certainly be down for writing up something about that; maybe a bit of writefaggotry regarding their final conversation or something.

"Regardless of whether your aims are noble," Lumey solemnly said, tone melancholy, "unfettered ambition is inevitably the murderer of righteousness."

and BLAM!

>>34480539
Talking about our AU, of course.
>>
>>34480539
Wasn't it more like

>And Horus is just like "You know we're setting a trap and everyone dies, right? Oh, you're already down there? Well, that just happened... I'll give him a week or two to blow off some steam while I do some other preparations
>5 months later
>"IS Angron still down there? Fuck it, glass the planet, he'll get the picture and come back to the ship"
>>
>>34480582
Yeah, I was taking artistic liberties...
>>
>>34480569
Alright, with some of the discussions, I'm starting to have a hard time keeping track of everything going on. Maybe we should add a timeline to the Doc, it would be a bit easier to see everything laid out, and adjust from there...
>>
>>34480569
The alternative is a duel. For the duel variation, the two converse over their blades and Brennus realises that, for him, the matter was lost once the duel began. (i.e. Brennus has no reason for either of them to die.)

We could do both, with the Thunder Kings preferring to tell the BLAM story.
>>
>>34480469

We have at least one who dies (Bohemond) on Isstvan V, and another is so badly wounded they have to put him in a Dread (Onyx)
>>
>>34480638
golgothos is in a dread - onyx hitches a ship and is out in the outer rims of space somewhere apparently
Also Marshals, Bulwark, and Cataphract primarchs die during or just after (cataphract only).

War scribes gets killed by a children backed AdMech assassination,

I think Occulus of the Empereors Eyes is lost in the warp.

The Ram primarch is i dont know where but he kills someones primarch i forget who.
>>
>>34480678
Kranios kills Rook North in the Loyalist's first strategic victory of the Heresy.
>>
>>34480689
So, are we considering the Heresy to be everything from the fall to the death of The Emperor? Or are we going all the way to pushing Chaos into the Immaterium?
>>
>>34480716
Not sure. I was thinking fall to the end of the Siege of Terra, but if we include the counter-offensive I get to put a lot more in the VA Heresy section.
>>
>>34480689
thats right! Nova Defenders iirc.. (this is all off top of my head)

Lumey goes into stasis, and Uriel is one of the last primarchs alive (but not *the* last) when he finally disappears into the webway having found a route to the Black Library - so either dead, lost in the webway with a small honour guard, or chilling in the Black Library.

>>34480716
We are covering the entire Heresy itself. or were, depends how much momentum we keep.
>>
>>34480747
Alright, cool, because it seems we keep bouncing between Istvaan and the Sol System. Figure for organization, we should figure out how far we're taking the Heresy, then work on it all chronologically.
>>
>>34480747
To clarify - Kleisthenes is dying in stasis. Lumey is doing his best Vampire: the Masquerade impersonation by programming his stasis field to discharge him at unpredictable intervals so he can check up on the Void Angels' Chapter Master and stop them from getting silly ideas.
>>
>>34480737

The Scouring is post-Heresy. We'll cover it, but after the Heresy is fleshed out.
>>
Thinking of doing a short fluff piece during the Crusade. Anyone want to volunteer to go on campaign with Bohemond? I can promise front assaults and glory!

Bohemond, Brennus and Darius? Let the earth tremble! (I recommend limiting it to three primarchs - if you want to tip your hat to that, maybe have them consider calling on Gaspard and let Darius suggest that the Void Angels are... busy.)
>>
anyone still on? Had to take a shower.
>>
>>34481203
I've mostly just been catching up on this thread, it happened while I was asleep.

I like the Isstvan map.

Did you guys ever settle things with Nathanog, or did he just leave in a huff?
>>
>>34481203
Just about to call it a night. The stuff with Brennus helped me work out what happens when Gaspard wakes up to review the performance of the Void Angels' current commander.

He kills them.

Anything else would require him to take stock, assess the situation, or effectively take command. Killing whoever is in charge at unpredictable intervals, means that every Void Angels commander knows his ambitions could be cut short at any moment.
>>
>>34481299
I think he just decided to get some sleep.

That's why they call me Warmaster (I'm Back)

>>34482305

>>
>>34482317
I do believe so. If Istvaan V is all complete, then that would make the next logical step covering the crucible and advance towards Terra...
But said Crucible is already figured out, so... On to the planet/moon hopping campaign, then.
>>
Think I can come up with a map/defensive positions for that one.

Personal opinion, I'd use some attack craft to draw the traitors into the system. Once they're all in, the craft would reunite with a larger fleet, and begin an assault on the traitors from three fronts. One from the direction of Sol, one from the side, and one from above/below.
If we've got more than two people on here, we could probably brainstorm more than that a bit better.

Don't warbands spring off of traitor legions?

And nice sigil btw
>>
>>34482817
Yeah, because the legions didn't have the codex most of them just broke up into warbands. Some keep the original name and others rename themselves.
>>
>>34482817
And if you don't want to have them be your successor warband, that's fine, they can be a second founding chapter from one of the loyalists. I was just saying that I already have two successors, and while I love Onyx's idea, I'm sure another Loyalist legion could use them; I don't want to hog all the fluff.

Alternate thought. If I was Hektor, I'd do something closer to this:

>Bring in every Traitor Army/Naval ship I could to make a straight run for Earth, supplemented by some Marines, thus forcing the majority of the defensive fleet to engage said offense. This is a feint.
>Send two smaller fleets full of Marines to attack Mars and Saturn from different angles, which will have reduced guard from moving them to the Terran defense, and hop their way towards Terra
>>
Should seriously get some sleep, though. Be back in a few hours.
>>
>>34482951
People are discussing the invasion of the Sol System, expanding the fluff for varying legions (like the Cataphracts), and drawing up maps of how Istvaan went down.

AND WE FINALLY STOPPED ARGUING ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THE SONS OF FIRE WERE TRUE KHORNATES

PRAISE BE TO THE DARK GODS
>>
>>34482951
Whole lotta shit's gone down. Much discussion, a couple people putting in some writefagging setting up their Legions, some interesting prototype maps coming through just now for us to use.

Still hoping the drawfriend's around, and I'm considering what to do for a second draft of my own Legion/Primarch fluff on 1d4chan.
>>
>>34483193
Alright I'm all up to date with the new fluff. Looking very good so far. One thing though, I understand the need for people to make successor legions as they can't make new first founding legions but I also think we should tone down the battles until everyones fluff is established.
>>34483379
I hope so too. I want to get my primarch drawn maybe because I have the drawing skills of a retarded third grader.
>>
>>34483489
most peoples Primarchs and Legions are a few lines at most.
Those people need to stop talking themselves into battles and rivalries and get on it.
I'm doing mine now.
And working on the Bulwarks Primarch to boot.
>>
>>34483555
You sir are a scholar and gentlemen. I agree about the talking themselves into rivalries thing. People are trying to RP characters that they themselves haven't even finished making yet. I managed to debate the nature of the universe into a rivalry though, which is kinda weird.
