I shut the door behind me as I leave Mom in bed. She looks to be recovering, even if she was absolutely exhausted a few minutes ago. It's amazing how fast this card can heal people.

I am Itsukuma Masami, and Mom just taught me what it's like to design a magic card in such a way that I can use it. Unfortunately, it seems like our exercise was too much for Mom and she ended up collapsing from exhaustion. I had no idea that the process drained her energy so violently. I just put her into bed and am now back in the living room, examining the card that was just 'drafted' as they call it.

Before, the card had a collection of sketches and lines along the outside, along with some kind of burn mark in the center of it. Now the burn marking is gone, and there is only the standard face of any of the cards. This card face now proudly displays a castle with a set of armor emblazoned on the front of it. Unlike the other cards, I can't feel much of an aura. The other cards have a very brilliant radiance that comes from merely holding them, but this one feels weak and puny. Is the glowing aura a function of how much I use it? Or maybe it has to be designed with one in mind?

I put the card away with the others; it's the first card I ever drafted so it's as good as mine. Plus lessons and questions for Mom have been cut short so she can rest, anyway.

I take out my phone and look up Aiko's number. It's been a few hours since we had breakfast here, so she might be available by now.

Besides, I do want to show everyone this new card.

Scrolling down the list, I reach the tile that holds Aiko's number and tap it.
It starts ringing,
and ringing.

Suddenly, elsewhere in the room, tacky J-Pop starts playing. That's really strange and coincidental. Maybe that's Mom's phone?

The J-Pop keeps playing as the phone keeps ringing. Eventually it goes to voicemail and the J-Pop stops.
I walk across to the chairs that have been pushed back under the table. Immediately noticing a glowing light coming from one of the chairs. I pull it out and note a phone that looks surprisingly like mine, only this one is covered in stickers with a masked superhero as the background.

"Oh no, is this..?" I say to seemingly no one. Of course I already know the answer of who this phone belongs to. I'm amazed no one has tried to call before now, but I'm not sure that I would have been able to hear it anyway when I was in the middle of drafting a card.

Well, it's not like I don't know where she lives! I write a note for Mom and place it on the table. Grabbing my phone and Aiko's phone, I skip out the door and toward her house.

I walk down the road toward the large, glass house at the corner of the block. There doesn't appear to be that many people out today aside from the occasional jogger, despite it being Sunday.
Weird.

My hand reaches into my front pocket and takes out the card collection that I seem to have started. So far I have five cards total,

Haruko, the red card that has the miraculous ability to heal
Julie, the blue card that has a very sharp outfit and an even sharper sword.
That purple card I got from a guy with an axe, last time I used it I seemed to be able to float or maybe even fly.
Another card that seems to be half-finished, I got this one from a monster in Fortune who attacked my friends.
And the last card that I just drafted, it's a grey card with a kind of white hue to it. On it's front is a picture of the set of armor I made and the wall of a castle.

I should probably think of names for those last three cards. How about, Belle? Maybe? I need to think on it some more.

Walking down the sidewalk, Aiko's house comes into view. The sun shines brightly off the sleek windows and somewhat messy lawn.

Except something is different this time. A window on the second floor is open, and I could have swore I saw someone jump from it and run in a sprint along the back of the house.

Uh oh.

"Hey Wait!" I yell, but it's so fast that it probably didn't think much of me yelling at it.

My cards go back into the pocket of my blazer as I start into a sprint. Quickly, I rush behind Aiko's house and get a look at what I'm chasing from behind.

It's a humanoid creature which looks to be my height. It's running extremely quickly, but it also appears to be nimble as it does leaps and jumps over obstacles and tree stumps. It darts into the forest behind Aiko's house with me trailing right behind it.

Through the leaves and branches, it's hard to keep up with. The woods in this area don't appear to be very thick, but I'm still having trouble bounding over the vines and logs in my quick pace. It disappears through a light spot in a thicket, and I follow in straight after.

That's when I'm presented with a view of the track at school. Apparently Aiko's house borders pretty closely with school property. Across the fields, I can still see that thing making a beeline across the fields and toward the school.

It's way ahead of me now, it's almost all the way back to the gym. It darts around the side of the gym and disappears from sight. Several minutes later; I catch up to where it was only to find it completely gone.

All this, and I still haven't given Aiko her phone back yet.

I sigh and fish the phone from my pocket. I start to look at some of the numbers that it has stored on it, maybe I can call someone and just give the phone to them instead of carrying it around with me all day.

Suddenly, the phone rings. Looking at the number, it's from Ryouta.
Then looking up, I notice Ryouta is standing outside the theatre, glancing at his phone. He hears the tacky J-Pop and looks up toward me.

"Hey!" I call out to him
"Hmm? Oh Masami! I didn't think you'd be here today. What's up?"
"Aiko left her phone at my house, and then I found someone or something running from her house. So I followed it here."
"SomeTHING, huh?"

He looks around suspiciously.

"That... is another reason I'm here. I got a call this morning saying that there was someone suspicious hanging around school and the police couldn't find him. I put two and two together after yesterday and came over to have a look."
I gasp, "But they said they weren't going to do that anymore!"
"And you're really going to listen to the words of monsters?"

Well, he has a point.

"And then, Maeda and I split up to cover more of the school, but she's not answering her phone either. So if Aiko doesn't have her phone, and Maeda isn't answering hers."
"..Then we need to start looking for them next, don't we?"
"Oh? I wasn't going to say that, but that's a good idea, too."

"So, what do you want to do?"

>"I'll call Aiko's house, it's here on her phone, and leave her phone with them and maybe look for Aiko there."

"I'm going to call Aiko's house and go leave her phone there. Maybe later I can come back and help look for Maeda."
Ryouta nods, "You got my number, right? Call me if you find either of them."
"Right, take care!"
He turns and walks toward the school cafeteria. Maybe he's hoping to find Maeda in there.

--

I realize that it's kind of silly for me to walk all the way back to Aiko's house. Instead, I walk out to the tracks and try putting on that mysterious purple card that I got to see how flying works out.

I look down and remember why I haven't tried doing this again,
"Seriously, who makes a flying dress that has a short miniskirt?" I try pulling it down a bit further, but it still doesn't seem to conceal very much.
I make sure no one is around and that nothing can see me as I look for a good place to take off. I tug at my skirt some more before turning and leaping to the sky.
Immediately, I notice that this card has some problems ascending. It's a great card if I want to simply hover a couple feet above the ground, but going up is SO SLOW. It feels like I'm trying to lift up my entire body by pulling myself up by my shoes. After some practice, I'm able to slowly ascend above treetop level and glide over the woods behind Aiko's house.
That is, until I take a branch to the face. I gently glide back down to ground level and just walk the rest of the way from there.

Going around the house and approaching the front door, I gently knock and step back several paces. A younger girl answers the door, one who looks surprisingly like Aiko with longer hair.

"Hello? Are you looking for my Dad?"
"Um, No no. I'm looking for Aiko."
"Pfft, someone looking for Aiko?"

She looks back behind her, and then turns back to me. "That's a new one, come in!"

Walking in, I notice that the house is a lot more spacious than my own. Lots of more separated rooms and even a full-sized kitchen! I wonder what Aiko's parents do for a living?

"Hold on, I'll go get sis!" She says as she runs upstairs.
A few minutes pass, I can hear some banging on the door upstairs along with some teasing.

Aiko appears out of the doorway, seemingly trying to hold her sister at bay with her free arm. She looks disorganized, and her hair is messed up. I wonder if she was sleeping?
"H-Hey Masami!" Her sister struggles against her arm some more as they both come in and sit down. Aiko being sure to scoot several places away from her sister.
"Masami? Is that your name? My name's Suzu!" She says with a cheery smile.
Aiko sighs, "No one asked your name, and hi Masami. My parents aren't around, or I'd introduce you to them too."

That was an odd change of tone from Aiko, "Oh that's fine, I came to give you back your phone."
She immediately gasps when she sees it, "Oh my god you had it the whole time, Thanks Masami!" She almost leaps over the table to hug me, but restrains herself when she glances over to her sister.

She takes her phone and presses a few buttons on it. Moving it away from her sister as she quietly tries to glance over at it.

"Um, sorry about not giving it back to you sooner. I was busy...."
I look over toward Suzu, who has the most interested look on her face.
I probably shouldn't mention that here.

"Oh! Right, speaking of which. Ryouta was trying to call you."
"Hmm? What did he want?"
Suzu puts on a stupid grin, she leans over and nudges her sister's shoulder. Which puts a very sour expression on Aiko's face.

"He can't find Maeda, and speaking of which; I was going back to school to help look for her. Want to come along?"
"Uh, sure!" She gets up, "Let me go get dressed first."

She takes a few steps away from the table, before immediately doubling back and grabbing her phone. She eyes her sister suspiciously as she only giggles in response.

It must be nice having siblings.

--

"I'll be back!" she shouts, as her sister closes the door behind her. Several clicks sound off from the door's locks.

She sighs and turns back to me, "Okay, what's this really about?"
"Well, Ryouta and Maeda were told there was another creep hanging around school."
"Mm hmm, and?"
She doesn't seem very surprised by that.
"So Maeda and Ryouta broke up to search the schoolgrounds, but Ryouta wasn't able to find her. So I thought all of us looking would go faster."
"Okay, that sounds good."
"Oh! and also."

I take the newest card I got out of my pocket. With a flick of my wrist, I can suddenly feel the weight of the extremely sturdy armor against my skin.

"I drafted my first card! What do you think?"

She doesn't say anything, but I'm pretty sure I can see stars in her eyes.

"That's another thing-" I say as the card slips back off of me, Aiko pouts slightly at me denying her the chance to see it some more.
"Did you notice anything in your room?"
"Hm? Why?"
"When I was coming to your house earlier, I saw something drop from a second floor window of your house and sprint toward the school."

Her face goes blank, "Huh, that is strange, isn't it?"
"..Any idea what it was?"

"Nope! Not really." She answers, "but I'll try to think about it some when I get home. Maybe look to see if anything was stolen."

That's a not very concerned answer for someone who was just told that their house may have been broken into.

We approach the front of the school, normally I would see students continue to walk from room to room exchanging information regarding their clubs. That's at least how it was when I left earlier to go to Aiko's house.
Something is different, this time. No one is around, in the distance I can see a student fleeing toward the theatre.

Aiko's phone rings again, she quickly takes it out and answers it.

"Huh? Ryouta? Did you find Maeda?"
Aiko's eyes grow wide.

In the distance, I see another student walking toward the theatre. It's Ken'Ichi, and in his arms he's very clearly carrying Maeda.

I break away from Aiko, but I can hear her start to follow me from behind.
"Ken'ichi! What happened!?"
He looks toward us and brings Maeda inside. Her eyes are closed, but she's cradling her shoulder as if she's awake. Walking in, there are quite a few students chatting and talking inside. Some of them break up and run over to us when they see Maeda.

Ken sets her onto a table before he turns around to face me.
"Both of you, stay in-" Ken cuts himself off, before looking directly at me.
"You, stay in here and don't leave until I get back. There's something I go to go deal with." He says, throwing a burnt cigarette out onto the sidewalk as he starts to leave.

I turn around to ask Aiko to go help him, but she's already gone. That's when I get his attention again,
"If something's happened, I want to help!" I shout. This causes Ken to shrug.
"Okay, fine, just don't complain when you get hurt like she-"

I don't even bother listening to the rest of that. Sprinting past him, I make my way toward the direction of the commotion.

--

I can hear a distinct thumping noise that gradually grows in intensity as I approach the courts.

Ryouta is the first thing I spot, leaping around and forming a defensive stance.
Then I see it.
It's another monster, who looks to be clad inside and out in metal. This one is WAY taller than the other monsters I've seen. This one is easily three meters in height. Holding it in one hand, is an axe that's could be the same size that I am. He's definitely not the thing that I saw moving ridiculously fast earlier.

Wow.

He throws a slow but powerful swing at Ryouta, who actually manages to block it with his bare hands. Ryouta counters with a punch to the broad side of the axe which sends his swing away.

This guy looks like he could really hurt if he hit the wrong place. What I need is something that can take it.

Grabbing the card I just drafted, I place it in front of me and leap through it. Immediately, I can feel the heavy armor brace against my skin.
This seems to immediately grab the monsters attention as he pushes past Ryouta and walks straight toward me. My hands are weighed down with the sudden presence of a gigantic tower shield and a rather hefty sword.

He takes several steps and tries an overhead swing, which I easily knock away with the shield. Despite this suit of armor being so heavy, everything else that is thrown against it feels like light paper. Despite the size of the axe, blocking it didn't feel worse than a slight nudge.
I think I've taken a liking to this card.

The monster, clearly confused at this, steps back several paces. Ryouta looks like he was going to shout something at me but changes his mind once he saw me block that strike. He moves as if he's going to flank the monster.

But before he can, someone ricochets off his armor, leaving a visible dent.
Or should I say, someone.

The lightning-fast blur does several somersaults backwards before landing perfectly behind the monster. From her form, I can tell it's clearly a girl who stands taller than I do. She wears a dress that has been cut down the center, as well as a bodysuit that rests under to support it. She seems to be covering her face with a mask, with a beret resting on top.

Seeing this, there's only a few words that come to mind.

"Wow, you look really silly."

Okay, Sorry for that hour-long delay for the final post.

But it's done! Thanks for the thread?

How was my writing this thread? Enjoying this little arc so far?

Clearly my late runtime is getting to me!

I meant: Thanks for the thread!
>>

i like the way you write, but all your delays make your threads feel way too short

Also for card names, I'm seeing a choice between Bellevedere and Cirrus for the one we just made. And Levi for the float card.

I will update that pastebin eventually, I swear.

that's okay. it just means you need to GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP. for your sanity

>>34452523
I think we actually chose Bellevedere for the new one and are stuck between Cirrus and Levi for the Float one, though I would go with Cirrus.
>>
>>34452523
Actually, I wanted Bellevedere for Knight card we made, and Cirrus for the float card. Not sure about the others
>>
>>34452523
i guess cirrus is for the float card
you know, like the cloud...
it's a good name, if you ask me

Yeah the last two threads have slowed down a whole lot. I'll work on post rate.

Ohh okay, Cirrus seems to be the choice then. With Bellevedere as the knight card. I'll write it down.

Also, archived!

Also, recounting, I only had 11 updates this thread.

That's not good!

I'll try to start way sooner next time so this doesn't happen again.
