Twitter: @Pokemon_Knights

You are Lilith, fourth daughter of Lord Erwin III, King of the Grand Forest.Your child hood was filled with tales of the brave Knights that rose up and fought of the evil that once ensnared your home so many years ago, and you have decided to run away from your noble upbringing to pursue your dream of being like them one day. With your faithful pet Charmander that you have raised since you were a little girl by your side, you feel anything is possible. You have recently been tasked with taking Alan - a Novice Mage - the remainder of his pilgrimage to Granite Castle, and see this as the first step to fulfilling your goal. Let the journey continue.

>A steel rapier with your father's seal etched into the hilt.
>Leather armor, with his seal around the chest piece
>A small shield, with the old crest rusted over
>Dried meat and bread
>A large sum of gold

You awake in your lavish room in the inn as the light pours through the open window. You can hear the soft bustle of merchants outside already moving along and preparing for a day of trading. You see Charmander curled up into a ball at the foot of your bed, careful huddled around its tail flame. You had a long talk with Alan last night, which has clued you in on many of the faucets of magic that you had either never learned or had forgotten in the time since you had been dedicated to your studies. However, the sunlight coming in also marked this the first full day of freedom from your father's castle, and by extension the first full day of your quest.

Now, it was just a matter to decide what to do with it?

You decide that the day is quickly aging, and it would be a waste of time to not utilize it immediately. You spend a minimal amount of time putting on your armor and brushing you hair before bothering to wake Charmander from his slumber. After gathering up your things, you exit the room and head down the hall to that of your companion. A few knocks on the door are met with silence, only to eventually bring out the Mage, his cloak wrinkled and out of place. "Do you have any idea what time it is? What could we possibly need to do this early in the morning?"

You look behind him to see his sparse room much the same as it had been the previous night, however the fireplace seemed to have burned itself out fairly recently. The curtains were drawn tightly that gave an eerie darkness to the room, which let most of the bed dark. In fact, the only difference you could see was the table you had your chat at the previous night was no longer bare, but had a single book open upon it, seeming turned to a page far near the back.

How do you respond?

"Gotta get a map! Get all your stuff and let's go, don't forget that book." You see Alan flinch slightly at the mention on the tome, as he goes back to pack it up inside his cloak. He steps out of the room abruptly, leading you to believe that the cloak he wears must simply contain all personal effects he has at any time. "Fine, but I must inform you I was up late reading, so don't expect me to be the best company." You shrug off his sour disposition, for you really did need that map, and perhaps a trip to the markets could drum up some other much needed supplies. On your way down the stairs, the man behind the desk informs you the case of spirits you hard orderd the night before, and you then somehow managed to fit the bottles into your pack. After settling your accounts with the Innkeeper, you exit out into the open town.

The crowds of merchants pulling carts and Pokemon around filled your sight, all of which carrying parcels or crates of varying sizes. The sight of "The Cunning Vulpix" was a much different picture during the day. The broken window had been crudely boarded over, and the glitz and glam of the previous night had been replaced with dirt and grime. It hardly seemed like the same place, but you focused your attention to the row of shops before you.

Down the isle of stores before you, several store fronts drew your immediate attention. One store had a logo of a piece of parchment being written on by a quill, and seemed to contain many books and scrolls, and seemed like the most reasonable place to find the map you were looking for. Another store had a crossed pair of swords, and seemed to be either a Blacksmith, or at least an outlet for his products. A third building had the image of a golden feather inlaid on a silver sign, however the flaking paint seemed to indicate its gilded nature. And finally, hidden off in an ally between a large grain depository and a stable, laid a shoddy wooden shack, with the words "Genral Stor".

You decide against the Parchment Store, and decide to take a chance on the "Genral Stor", betting that its homely outside masked a much more enjoyable interior. However, upon opening the rickety wooden door, it was clear that would not be the case. The store seemed to be illuminated entirely by the cracks in the roof allowing beams of sunlight to leak in. Around the room were scattered bits and baubles with varying states of rust or wood rot from days when the weather wasn't quite so pleasant. Alan turns to you with a skeptical gaze, but you decide to brush it off. Surely a map would be cheaper here, so you make your way across the creaky wooden floor and ring the rusted bell alongside the counter.

Without a second's hesitation, a thin old man rose up from behind the counter, as if he had been hiding there the entire time. "Yesss? How can I be of assistance." You quickly explain that you need a map of the surrounding region, which causes a sly grin to appear along his wrinkled face. His hand reaches beneath the table, and pulls out a faded piece of parchment. "For such a pretty young lady... 1 gold piece..."

You examine the map briefly and see all appears to be in order from your dull memories of geography tutors trying to hammer information into your head, and more importantly the price is more than fair. The old man gladly accepts your gold, and speaks again in his dusty tone. "I have something else you may be interested in..." Before pulling up a similarly rotted piece of wood, however, it was covered in carvings, and seemed to shimmer softly in the sunlight. "A fair price, I promisse..."

You pick up the object, and see more closely that the wood rot seems to not be natural, but a response to a long red object stuck through the middle leaking a substance from the bottom and being absorbed by the wood. The carvings display a language that you are incapable of reading, nor even remember seeing before. The only thing you can make out is the distinct carving of a snake coiling around the wood to the top. As you're examining the object, Alan leans in to your side, whispering to avoid the old man overhearing. "That looks like shaman magic, but I regret I haven't studied enough to even guess at its purpose." You bend down to Charmander's level to allow him to take a look at it. He sniffs it curiously, only to back away with a confused expression. He pokes it softly with one hand, and then relaxes, beaming up towards you happily.

The old man smiles, and coughs lightly before continuing. "You see... Calms Pokemon... for a fair price..."

Everyone's deathly afraid of charmanders so it was caged by your father.

You give the old man a cold glare, and slowly place 2 gold pieces on the table, in the interest of provoking him into negotiation, however much to your surprise he pushes away one of the coins, taking only a single coin between his boney fingers and uttering the phrase "Fair price. Farewell.." And before you can respond he is already retreating into the back room. You share a confused glance between Alan and Charmander, and then decide to exit the shop.

Upon exiting the shabby building however, you notice a squadron of men entering the parchment store at the end of the street, wearing an emblem on their clothes that you instantly recognize as that of your father. You had hoped it would have taken him longer to notice your disappearance, but it seemed fortune was not in your favor. It would only be a matter of minutes before they made their way down the street, and you would have to be long gone by then. A quick glance around revealed a stable to your left, a grain depository to your right, and a merchant loading a large cart up the road near the Parchment Store.

You decide to quickly duck into the stables beside you, with Charmander following in a rapid hurry, and Alan taking his leisurely time. The room consists of several pens, each with a single Pokemon inside. Mostly work Pokemon, it is clear that few if any have seen any experience in battle, and it seems like even fewer would be able to get you out of town as quickly as you desire. A quick glance around allows you to see a few that may suit your needs:
>a lone Bouffalant, which seems more than hearty enough to carry both you and Alan
>a timid Girafarig, which could probably carry a three out of town before needing a rest
>an energetic Blitzle in the corner, which while not big enough to carry Alan, could more than accommodate your weight
A quick examination of the prices listed below each showed a hefty price for the first, a modest for the second, and a minor for the first. All would cut heavily into your funds, but a bit of re-budgeting could save you from ruin for the last two, however you would be pinching pennies on the first.

What to do?
>A. Bouffalant, its worth the hit to get us all out of here

Sure but he's gonna be asking questions the moment you blitzle your way out and he's already grumpy this morning.
If it really looks like we can't avoid capture then I say we set fire to something with a bottle of spirits and charmander. I'd say grain store since that'd certainly catch everyone's immediate attention but that seems overly harsh on the townsfolk

You decide that the beast of burden would be too much of a hit to you finances when your journey was just beginning, and it would be much less complicated to simply take Alan with you on your way out of town and agree to meet up later. You hand over the large sum of gold to the stable hand, who saddles and loads your gear onto the Pokemon. You mount the Girafarig with the ease of someone who had been taught to ride at a young age, but Alan's was a much more awkward attempt. Charmander happily climbed into your lap, holding its tail close to its front as it snuggled between the reigns. You manage to get the Pokemon into a light trot out the stable doors with little trouble, however a loud call immediatly drew your attention: "Lady Lilith! Stop this instant, by direct order of your father!"

You turn white as you see the group of soldiers only a block away. They had advanced along the road much more quickly than you had anticipated. You felt the adrenaline surge up inside you as the prospect of your freedom being taken away from you after only a single day, and your dream dying with it. You had to act now.

What will you do?

You know you can't let them take you back, but you also don't want to hurt them. You give the Girafarig a sharp kick in the sides, and it reels back before galloping in the opposite direction. However, you can feel the effect of Alan's extra weight is an unexpected load for the Pokemon, especially since the Mage's confused manner seemed to be upsetting the beast's second head. It was clear you would be unable to outrun them if they gave chase by any other means than by foot. It was then you heard the fateful call from the soldier commander: "You give us no choice, Lilith! 100 gold to the man that brings me that girl unharmed! I care not what happens to the others!"

This caused a clamor among the townsfolk, causing them to scramble every which way. However, it seemed that none had the ability or means to catch up with her, except for a trio of relatively fit men in dark leather armor. You hear who must be the leader shout to the others "Sounds like a job, boys!" Before the trio all mount individual Doduo and take chase.

The men are clearly gaining on you, you need to act fast.

As you turn your head to keep tabs on the band of mercenaries keeping up with you, your gaze happens to meet Alan's hooded grimace. He seems to be fighting to simply remain on the Pokemon, and it is far beyond his capabilities to hold a conversation. So you'll just blurt out all your confessions when he can't complain: "Listen, I should have said this earlier, but I'm Lilith, Princess of the Grand Forest. I ran away from home to be a famous warrior because my dad would have never allowed it. I still want to help you get to Granite Castle, but I can full understand if you wanna bail right now?"

He stare back at you in silence, before shaking his head. "Just keep running..." You're taken back by the odd choice of words, but decide to shrug it off as a victory and turn forward. The edge of town loomed in the distance, and while you may not lose your pursuers, getting away from the soldiers was your top concern at the moment. With a surge of adrenaline, you decide to do the only thing you can think off, and grab Charmander tail, and press the flaming edge firmly against Girafarig's side. What the hell? You only live once.

With a violent cry, the Pokemon goes into overdrive, the wind whipping through your hair as you race towards the edge of town. The soldiers were quickly becoming a distant speck on the horizon, and the gang of men behind you seemed to stop gaining ground. However, it was clear the Pokemon couldn't keep up this speed for long, and it would only be a matter of time before they caught up. It was now just a matter of what to do when they did.

You grip the reigns hard, just hoping to clear all that remained of the distance between you and the open fields outside of town. However, fate seemed to have other plans in mind, as you felt the split second of weightlessness of the Girafarig's hooves falling through the gap in the road, and did all you could to brace yourself around Charmander.

The Pokemon tumbled over, grinding along the path for several yards before coming to a complete stop. Thankfully, Alan had been thrown off immediately towards the street's edge, and you had rolled yourself and Charmander away from being crushed. You could see the Pokemon trashing in pain against the ground, clearly too terrified to think rationally and avoid injuring itself further. As you held Charmander safely in your grasp, you could see the gang of three quickly approaching. You needed to act fast.

You shakily get to your feet, the dull pain spreading through your leg. You face the oncoming charge, while reaching into you bag to get one of the bottles of spirits you'd purchased for just this kind of occasion. You uncork it with little hastle, tearing off a strip of cloth from the edge of your dress and stuffing it into the opening, allowing the alcohol to soak through. As you cradled the bottle in your hand, you shouted out to your pursuers: "You only get paid if I'm unharmed, and I'm sure as hell not going to go without a fight! You're better off giving up while you're still in one piece!"

The sneer on the leader's face was all you needed to see how they felt about your proposal. Their loss. Grabbing Charmander's tail, you light the rag, which instantly began burning fiercely, and in a split second later, tossed the entire bottle towards the trio.

The bottle leaves your fingertips with an amazing force, however it begins to drift off to the right in mid-flight, away from the groups leader. It instead connects with he rider of the second Doduo, exploding into a shower of flames, coating both Pokemon and rider alike, prompting the Doduo to crash through a nearby window in a fit of hysteria. The riders leader give a brief glance over to his fallen comrade, but gives chase towards you regardless. It seems the payment you will provide is worth more then the injuries his underlings would endure.

As the Doduo are rapidly approaching, you can tell you only have time to try one more thing before they're upon you, and the remainder of your spirits happen to be in Girafarig's travel bag. If you had a plan, now would be the best time to enact it?

You draw your rapier and brace yourself behind the worn shield. You'd exhausted all your current options and needed to by more time, if you could take the hit, then maybe Charmander could help. The orange lizard stood by your side, tugging at you to move. His mind couldn't comprehend the tactics you had in place, and you didn't have the time to explain them to him. He'd have to feel scared for a little while, before you could assure him that you was okay. You glared as the man charging toward you raised a club, clearly willing to explain away your bruises if the need arose. You planted you feet and felt the blow connect with a dull thud against your shield, the force of his mount running past shooting through you already injured leg, sending you to the ground. It hurt like hell, but you managed to block it.

However, you had underestimated the groups determination, as the second Doduo came charging towards you, possibly even to trample you. Your leg hurt to much to react immediately, so you did the only thin you could do and called out: "Charmander! Help me!"

The lizard growled violently, a fire burning brightly in his eyes as he stared down the rider charging down its Master. He shouted "Char!" opening its mouth, but nothing came out. "Char!" but again nothing. The Pokemon began growling more and more ferociously, as it failed to breath flame.

As the Doduo was just about to trample you, the Charmander let out one more tear-filled "Char!" in rage, and again, no flame came out.

Yet his mouth sparked with bolts of blue energy, before unleashing itself into a violent blast of blue fire, sparking ferociously as it connected with its target, knocking both off into a bunch of barrels on the side of the road. You could only stare in disbelief, before realizing the leader was still turning around. You would have to figure out what happened later and plan your counter-attack now.

Not that I have any clue HOW that could be the case. It's literally the ultimate move of a single dragon pokemon
>>
>>34423711
Yeah, I just omitted mentioning that for that reason. Maybe charmander just didn't use an actual move, bearing in mind that in this setting they've yet to define them or something along those lines.
>>
>>34423430
You grunt softly as you rise to your feet, bracing your rapier against your shield. The aching pain is still there, and you're pretty sure that you won't be able to take another hit without fully damaging it. You know its a hopeless situation, which leaves you to rely on the unknown. You glance over to Charmander, and know you'll need to rely on his strength yet again. Perhaps in the future you can repay the favor, but you're too weak to do so now. As you see the tiny lizard bracing himself, you call out: "Charmander, I don't know what you did, but do it again!"

Charmander opens his mouth, growling violently at the approaching enemy, attempting repeatedly to replicate its earlier attack. However each attempt proved fruitless, only causing its frustration to build. However, like the first time, it managed to cough up a few blue electric bolts, that soon ignited in a blue flash of electrifying flame right at the approaching enemy. The force of the blast sent the mercenary flying off his mount into a nearby building, and the Doduo ran panicking down the street into town. You stared blankly at smoking enemy, realizing he could get back up at any moment. You needed to leave now, while you still could.

Just because moves aren't organized doesn't mean what pokemon can do is much different

Also, a charmander with dragon rage should be level 16, unless it was learned by breeding or something, if that's possible.

Seeing the trashing Girafarig, you remember the totem you bought earlier that you were told can calm pokemon. Perhaps, if you could manage to get it calm, you could do a quick patch job on its leg, and manage to get far enough out of town to hide. So you pull out the red-speckled wood, and draw it close to the trashing Pokemon, being careful to avoid getting injured yourself.

You manage to press the small bauble against the beast, and in an instant you feel its thrashing cease, accompanied by what sounded eerily like a soft hiss. You notice the scales along the serpent carving shimmer softly in the sunlight before soon fading to black. However, when you turned to Girafarig, you can see that its front right leg has sustained a nasty bruise. It doesn't look like it will be able to support much weight for awhile. You look over you shoulder to check and see if the soldiers have continued on your trail. You don't have much time.

What do you do?

Forgot my name
----
You decide that Alan might have more knowledge about this then you. After all he did give you that potion last night, who knows, he might even have another up his sleeve for just this kind of occasion. You see him shambling up from his landing spot and call for him to hurry over. He quickly makes his way to the Pokemon's side, and places a hand against its main neck, stroking gently.

"Is there anything you can do?" You say, unsure of what could possibly be done. Alan merely nods. "There is something... look away..." You oblige, but manage to catch a glimpse of him pulling back his hood, noticing a deep purple scar over his right eye before turning completely away. You here the ruffling sound of his book, and then him chanting a language you've never heard before. You fight the urge to turn back, as you feel as if the morning light began to grow brighter, until it was almost blinding. When the light subsided, you turned back to see Alan, back to his old hooded self. You see his face holds a grimace of pain, and he is rubbing his wrist. However, it seems that Girafarig's wound is gone. "We should get a move on."

You take his advice and mount the now standing Pokemon, taking a light trot out of town. However, you can't help but think about what just happened. As you pass the towns boundary, you consider asking Alan some questions, while you decide where to go from here.

What to ask?
> Ask Alan about Charmander
> Ask Alan about the totem

You decide to follow the map and head directly towards Emerald Lake. The soldiers had no way of knowing where you were headed, and the more distance you put between yourself and them the better. Besides, you didn't feel much like heading back towards home. A light traveling pace in the direction of the lake left some time to talk, so you turned back to Alan.
"So, is your wrist okay?"

"Huh? Oh, yeah. Must of hurt it in the fall, or something." He seems to look away for a moment, readjusting himself on the back of the saddle uncomfortably. You decide to change subjects. "So, what did you do back there? To Girafarig, I mean?"

He stares back at you, with the same hooded gaze. "I cast a spell... a healing one...it took quite a bit more out of me than I... expected..." You mind keeps racing with questions, but you can see there are things Alan seems to want to avoid talking about. But its a long trip, and plenty of chance to crack him.

You're definitely getting the vibe that personal questions would be more suited to a different environment, so you decide to change subjects entirely. You mind flashes back to the electric blue flame that came out of Chamander earlier on, and decide that would be a good place to start. "So, any idea what Charmander did earlier? That was the strangest flame I'd ever seen."

Alan ponders for a moment, prompting Charmander to nuzzle his head against you at the mention of his name in the silence. "If I had to guess, it seems he learned a spell. Pokemon don't have to study like us Mages, magic comes naturally to them. It seemed to be another element masquerading as fire, but why he wouldn't breath just regular fire first is an oddity to me..."

You rub Charmander's head softly in response. Something odd had definitely occurred even by a Mage's odd standards. It seemed while they were on the subject of magic, you might as well bring up the totem. "So, it seems like the thing the old man sold me wasn't complete junk, even though he only charged a single gold. Must be my good bargaining skills?" You smirk cockily, goading Alan into further conversation. "I suppose, however Shaman magic normally works on a karmic scale. Like a coin, every good is an evil, every evil a good. Two sides. It seems odd that it would simply dissipate negative feelings in Pokemon without doing something else in return. I'd exercise caution using that in the future, if I were you."

You continue riding through the plains, as you can feel conversation wearing thin.

You turn back again for the third time, only for him to meet your gaze expectantly. "Yes?" Alan say, his voice unsteady. "I was just wondering if there was anything you knew about Pokemon for training?" The Novice Mage simply stared back and sighed. "No, I'm afraid not. My expertise is in human magic, not that of monsters." You feel a little awkward for having asked the question, as the answer must have seemed so blatantly obvious to him. You just needed to fill the void of silence, and do anything to break the tension and make the ride go smoother. So you say the first thing that pops into your head. "Jeeze, calm down, its not like I asked about your sex life."

The awkward silence persisted.
