Well, hey there nerds.
Let's run some tonks, yeah?
I know I was supposed to run Saturday, but homework got the best of me. Other than that, tonight will probably be short as I get back into the swing of things. Plus I'm on puppy duty, so there's that too.

Anyhow, archive here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=mightym0use
Twitter here: https://twitter.com/JakePenetrator
And as always, I'm in IRC.

======

“Yep. Smells like Germany.”

Standing next to you, Anderson stretches before bringing his arms in close around his body. European winter had set in strongly here, leaving snow on the ground even though it was early spring. The snow on the apron had been melted away by the maintenance crews long ago however, showing the all-too-familiar taxi lines.

“I wasn't aware Germany had a specific smell, viking.”

He cocks an eyebrow. “Viking, sir?”

“I remember the battleaxe comment.”

“Ah. Well, either way. Smells like beer, poor decisions, and combat here.”

You nod. Watching the Achilles and Myrmidons roll out of the black C5's you flew over in, you can't help but wonder how the drivers could see out of the armored vehicles. Thick tarpaulins covered both the vee's chassis and turrets in order to obscure them from prying eyes. Either way, they were doing an expert job driving them down the ramps.

(1/3?)
>>
>>34395445

You take your time watching the four vehicles form up, watching to make sure that the General Dynamics team are there and going over everything with a fine toothed comb. Wouldn't want to finally get back to the line just to have something silly and little keep you from the fight.

“Any idea where we're off to?” Anderson asks. His hands are firmly planted in his pockets in a futile attempt to keep the cool spring breezes off of them.

“No eyed deer. I'd suppose somewhere where fighting is light, that way we can test systems. Past that, your guess is as good as mine. Want some gloves?” You ask, offering your battered flight gloves. You'd stolen a pair from either Frank or Rex some time ago, long enough that you can't remember who they were from.

The lieutenant takes a step away.

“Sir, I know better than to take another man's personal effects. I also know for a fact that you've had those since we met and probably longer, and in that time they've not been washed once. I think I'll just deal with the cold.”

You shrug. “Suit yourself. My hands are comfy. Yours are cold.”

Soon enough, your orders arrive via some guy in a Humvee. You're to report to the 7th Panzer Division in Trebbin, some 55 kilometers from Berlin under special instruction from General Lindsay himself. Exactly who you're to report to, however, remains up in the air.

“You believe this shit?” You ask, passing the paper over to your second in command.

After skimming through it, he scoffs and hands your orders back.

“You mean you'd want to keep new, experimental weaponry out of an augmentation status? Especially since they literally haven't been seen outside of APG or the factory? Now, that's just crazy talk, Captain. Gotta knock 'bout a hundred IQ points off of any good idea, remember? Gotta think army.”

You shake your head. “Yeah. You got me there.”
>>
>>34395466

You pass out the warning order to the company, who promptly set to having the vehicles stand to, up and ready. Your infantry, all wearing fresh issue BDUs and body armor, run over their weapons and other high speed gear one more time before mounting up. You almost have to stop Meany from climbing onto Booze Hound, but realize that he's just headed over to fist bump Nicky. Soon enough, you're on the road.

The roads are still in surprisingly good shape, despite the heavy traffic they've seen over the past few weeks. That, and the route you're taking is kind of a back road of sorts, it's certainly not the main rollbahn. Too high profile still, you think.

“Hey, Captain?” Sargeant Rockfield, over internal comms.

“Shoot, top.”

“Why're we being relegated to foreign command? We're a silver bullet here, these four vehicles. An American commander would know how to use us.”

They're also gigantic dopes that think they're still palm-of-your-hand sized puppies. Protip. 90LB of dog does not a lapdog make. Just don't tell them.

You cock an eyebrow, even though she can't see it.

“Top, are you asking me if whoever is in charge of seven Panzer isn't gonna get us stuck in?”

“Not at all sir. I'm just asking if they'll know how to use us. I mean -” She turns in her seat halfway, then cranes her neck back to see you. “- We're two tanks and a pair of middle weight fighting vehicles with some dismounted specialists. We're really not anything that could fight at a front. So, I guess what I'm really getting at, is what the hell are we doing here, at the front?”

You're torn. Even though you're really not sure either, you know she won't take “Jesus top I dunno ask General Lindsay” for an answer.

“We're gonna do whatever seven panzer's CO asks us to do. And we're gonna do the hell out of it. We're gonna do it harder than anyone has ever done it befo-” You stop yourself mid thought, catching Nicky giggling and Michael staring at you. Rockfield smirks a bit, before turning back to her MFD screens.

“Yeah, I guess we will sir.”

The road to Trebbin is quieter than you'd expect – especially being this close to Berlin. NATO fighters are on constant CAP flights it seems, as there's a constant dull roar of jet engines although you never really put eyes on them. Even so, it's nice knowing someone is up there watching your back. You'd never trade armor for three dimensional movement. Not ever.

The column is called to a halt the first time some 200 kilometers out of Rammstein, where you're met by a US-German run checkpoint.

“Orders, herr captain?” A fresh faced Feldjäger asks.

You pull your papers out of the pocket they've been riding in and hand them to the waiting MP. He looks over them, looks back to you and your vehicles, and then hands the papers back.

“Ah, seventh panzers. I know the unit vell. I believe the unit distinguished itself near the Vistula crossing before the general retreat. The CO....well. You'll have to see them to believe them, herr captain. Carry on!”

He hands you your orders before stepping back and sending you on your way. You're almost ready to give him hell for not saluting you, but then you remember you're back in a combat zone. Generally speaking, the rest of the ride is serene. Other than the CAP flights, that is.

After stopping to refuel in Bad Hersfeld and warding off the quizzical looks of the people who had no idea you'd be showing up in vehicles they've never seen before (See, all of them), Corporal Siegel pings your private net.

“Shoot, corporal” you respond.

“Sir, I've um. I've gotta ask you something. It's important.”

You can't help but wonder what's got her, of all people, riled up.

After tapping nicky to get his opinion (He shrugged), you thumb the push to talk on your comms. “Well, go on.”

You can hear the tension in her voice.

“Well sir, when we landed and got our orders, I made a call to a few friends. They got back to me just a few minutes ago. I uh, I asked who the CO of seven Panzer. To be honest sir, I'm really not sure how else to say this, so I'll just come right out and say this. Seventh Panzer is under one Oberstleutnant Paula Wittmann.”

Your heart stops and your sphincter slams shut.

“Uh. Wittmann?”

“Yessir. That's what my girls said.”

“Wait wait, it can't be that Wittmann. She was a Leutnant when we left her!”

“Well sir, war takes it's toll. They've seen fighting since you pulled out, and that's been about all they've seen. Chances are it was both field promotions and what she had scheduled for her, but either way. It's that Wittmann.”

You feel like screaming. Last time you saw her, she'd pulled a stunt that left your blood boiling for quite some time.

And now she was gonna be your CO. No doubt about it.

Wittman was attached to our unit way back. Our actions and orders, while ultimately successful, we're risky and what some might even classify as reckless.
Wittman survived a glory hound CO, and thought she was under another one. Jake assures her that the Bishops do not seek glory, only for Frank to go on global TV taking on an overwhelming Russian force over Tanana, that made Jake look like a lying asshole.
Jake didn't see it that way, and holds a grudge against her to this day.

What, the fact that she is sitting in our tank and turned around to face us at one point? I saw that, but frankly it's been so long that I can't even remember what the scorpion did or how it was any different from having a healwitch do it.
>>
>>34398432
the only difference between the two is that she'd be walking again with the Scorpion, as opposed to waiting 6-8 months to get a healwitch, though the Scorpion would fuck up her chances at getting a healwitch later

I really really hope she went for healwitch, then we can have fun pushing her around in a wheelchair which would be adorable and I'd hate for her to take the scorpion and it fuck her over just because she wanted to walk a few months sooner
>>
>>34398432
The Scorpion is an implant that is implanted alongside, and augments the spine. It's permanent, can't be removed, and this is the pre-alpha prototype.
It would basically bypass weeks to months of waiting for a heal witch to become available, with the obvious downsides that it can't be removed and that it's highly experimental.
>>
Technically, don't she on tank as opposed she on strikers mean she opted to wait for healwitch?
Either way Top is here and we'll have fun time.
>>
>>34398505
Can't be removed yet. Those russians are crazy with the cybernetics, considering Konstantina and the other witches.
>>
>>34398537
No the tonks have witch integration suites.
>>
>>34398505
>can't be removed
Which is totally fucking bullshit, we've got magical healwitches and they can't do minor spinal surgery properly? A friend of mine lost 3 inches of his spine when his truck went over an IED, and they replaced that with prosthetics and he's walking again fine now, and this was a decade ago.
>>
>>34398537

Not really.

The scorpion just means she could be in strikers if she wanted to but all 4 of our vehicles need to be crewed with a witch anyways. She still could have taken the op and got in the tank. So as not to be a liability under battlefield conditions, say if we needed to bail or something.
>>
>>34398257
....I think we read or got something different when I read the threads.

But I'm interested in seeing Wittman again though the anger at her is a bit much
>>
>>34398595

>>
>>34398594
If we need to bail, then having legs or not, your getting hauled out of the tonk, standard procedure during a bail from a KO'd tonk is to assume severe leg wounds and trauma and treat them as such.

So it wouldn't be any less of a liability than a able bodied crewman.

I am both amazed and amused about how butthurt people are about that one scene even to this day.

If she wants to start this clusterfuck up again then I'm perfectly willing to answer her, but I'm also willing to bury the hatchet too.
>>
>>34398643
Thats probably just one example. Imagine trying to scramble the tank on an emergency sortie if she didnt take the op. That'll take a bit of time to not injure her.
>>
>Bite the bullet, remain professional

“Well, fuck. This is gonna suck.” You say to no one in particular, even though you're still on comms with Siegel.

The rest of the drive is quiet, ending with your recon elements making contact with 7th Panzers picket line. Your Achillies and Myrmidon vehicles gain quite a few looks, though nothing you're not familliar with already.

You're called out of your tank by an Unterfeldwebel who, other than his lack of clean uniform, looks the very model of a Whermacht nco.

“Hallo, herr captain, ve are quite glad to see you! Ve've taken a beating here, being ze only armored unit on zis line. I zuspekt Dame Wittmann vill vant to zee you on ze bounce. I vill haff my signaller radio your arrival. You can park your tanks right over zere, unt maybe eat vhile ve vait.”

At first, you're not sure if the guy is putting his accent on for you. Then you remember that most, if not all Germans are fiercely proud to be German, so he probably was hamming up a bit. Oh well, honestly, you can't say you wouldn't do the same if they were in your country. You nod your approval and guide Hans over to your company landing, where Ooishi and Siegel are already out of their strikers and pitching their tents.

The divisional camp is quite spartan, at first glance. Trenches have been ripped into the ground, between which Leo 2a4 and 2a3's sit in fighting positions, ready to repel any attack headed towards them. Outside of that, everything seems to be just like on a training op. There's no hard latrine, no DFAC, not a hint of a rec area. The Germans mean business.

After ripping halfway through your first of what would probably be many MREs, the very same NCO approaches you.

Same here, what she did was a prick move and we even though Jake does not know much of jet combat, we saw our brother die (before we found out what happened) and for her to say something like that, it was a prick move.

However it's been a long while since it happened and we did our best not to have our squad killed (with mix results) if she is willing to let bygones be bygone, I'm happy for it.

If she is going to act like a bitch then we'll answer in kind of just request a transfer

>[] Grab shotgun, tighten armor, find Anderson, grumble to self.

You look up at your tank, then at the Unterfeldwebel. His eyes go wide for a moment, before you break a smile, accompanied with “Naaahhhh”.

You do, however, climb up on your vehicle, fishing down under your seat for your super shorty and sabre, making sure to grab your PASGT and NOT the Achillies' integrated helmet. That'd just look silly.
Making sure your armor is tightened down over your chest, you hop off of the vehicle. “One more second Sargeant, I've gotta go find my XO and let him know what's going on.”

The German nods, crossing his hands behind him. “Ve are not in a rush, Herr Bishop.”

You find Anderson sharpening a tomahawk, sitting just on the ramp of one of the Myrmidons.

“Jesus, I thought you were kidding about the axe thing.”

For his part, he just looks up and smirks.

“Well, either way. I have to go meet with 'Dame Wittmann.' Company is yours.”

Anderson nods, adding “Luck, sir. Holler if you need me” before setting back to his work at hand. Say what you will about the man's social skills, he damn sure takes care of his gear.

The walk to Wittmann's tent is relatively uneventful, though you and Unterfeldwebel Plattz hit it off well. Turns out his family have been in the Panzer Korps since their inception, and he's probably got a better running knowledge of soviet vehicles and how to kill them than anyone else you've ever met. Then again, when you've been fighting them for this long, it'd be a surprise to meet someone who didn't know how to kill enemy armor that well.

“Ah, here ve are, Herr Captain. I vill vait outside for you, ja?”
>>
>>34399328

>>
>>34399328

You exhale before pulling the flap back and stepping in.

“Captain Bishop. It's good to see you again.”

You're a bit taken aback at first, really. Last time you had seen this wench, she'd just tried convincing you that you were a glory hound because your brother refused to die without fighting. Where was this polite demeanor all that time ago?

“I um. You too, Oberstleutnant. ARSOF reports as ordered.” You finish, pulling your papers from their pocket again. She motions for you to set them on her desk. After reading them, she sets them on the edge, just teetering.

“Do you see what your papers are doing, there, captain?”

You say nothing.

“They're feathering. Just right on the edge. On one side, safety. On the other, rock-total-bottom. Just as I feel your career is doing. You've apparently done amazing things, which I haven't seen. You've also done some things that got your people hurt and killed. I will not tolerate that with my men.

“Captain, while under assignment here, you will be perfect. You will not step out of line, nor will your men, or the Heer will toss you out of this war just as quickly as you came into it. And I swear upon every breath that I take, if you so much as even think about reaching for a medal or hunting for glory, I will personally collect the debt of whoever you kill doing so. Do I make myself clear?”

Somewhere in the ambush dressing down, you'd gone to the position of attention. Not that you really liked it, but she IS your CO.

“Clear, ma'am.”

“Good. Tomorrow we'll be conducting a reconnissance movement. ARSOF will be at the tip of the spear. Move your men into fighting positions around Underfeldwebel Plattz' location. I suppose for now you'll be the officer in charge of sector two. My men are very familiar with this area, if they say something out of place, I recommend you listen.”

“Yes ma'am.”

“Dismissed, Hauptmann.”

You click your heels, before spinning on them and wheeling out of the tent.

Hunt for medals?

Fucking.
Please.

>>
>>34400232
So in your attempt to justify Whittmann still being a Cunt you choose the very case IN-POINT that Frank followed the mission to the T, Kill the Flying Aircraft Carrier. You can in no way say for certainty that the Dreads would have gone down if we used the Harpoons on them instead of the Flying Carrier nor can you say that the Kitty Hawk would still be floating.
>>
>>34400303
True but easy missions and playing safe is what I'm assuming. Also for the fact her superiors got killed and she was next up the bat.

IIRC Saudi was something that couldn't be helped and we tried our best to minimize the causalities.

>>34400346
If people didn't treat teh mission like a video game and rushed towards the boss (basically leaving everything else to their fates), things would have been better. It was pretty blatant glory hounding from anon and when it went tits up, people started making various 'justifications' to cover up the fact they fucked up (as is the norm on the internet)

In contrast what happened with the Russian Supertank could not be helped. There was no glory hunting but rather trying to minmize the damage from a bad scenario.
>>
>>34400346
Not to mention the fact that the Flying Carrier was packing enough planes and heat to destroy even the Kitty Hawk by itself or even more of the ships instead.

What happened to it was unfortunately but it was a bad situation no matter the choice
>>
>>34400410

Dude, the problem is that she doesn't know that. We know that for a fact, but she's not exactly omniscient.

Actually he's the guy the officers need to sign off on her paperwork for exactly those reasons.

So yeah, your full of shit.
>>
>>34400418
Again, you didn't answer my question what could have been done?

Your just criticizing our decision without any means beside "Anons wanted to he a hero"

We were facing a shitload of planes a flying carrier and two or three dreads. What was your plan going against that.
>>
>>34400410
>kind of blood thirsty and adrenaline junkie
This leads to us getting medals and putting ourselves and our unit in harm's way.
Is that really any different from chasing medals?

But more importantly, if Command didn't tell Wittmann about the circumstances around the one instance where we lost soldiers, then how likely is it that they also failed to mention the SOVIET SUPERTANKS being deployed to a fucking satellite ally, and which apparently haven't shown up yet in one of the more traditionally important theaters?

Can we tell Wittmann about them, or would that be a breach of security?
>>
>>34400418
You are still not telling us the plausible way that the Kitty Hawk would still be afloat, sure perhaps if we focused on the Dreads right at the start it would have been different but the Flying Carrier would have bugged out as soon as she lost her escorts and we would have had no way of hitting her as the Harpoons would have been used on the Dreads. She'd also have most of her fighter and witch escort left.
>>34400478
There was two dreads.
>>
>>34398257
uh, what
when did we do anything remotely close to what you just posted?
I'll give you the "she was smug about proving Jake wrong" part, except she was wrong in that regard. The only reason Frank did that was because if he didn't fly in and intercept, the entire mission would have been a failure, along with the accompanying deaths of several witches.
>>
>>34400393
Perhaps, and maybe your right I just think she went on mission or situations that didn't require major decision other then play it safe though.

Not saying she is a bad commander but she didn't face supertanks, Vampires, Soviet superwitches, and overwhelming numbers like the Bishops had.

Any of them would have caused casualties, we did our best to minimize it with a crippled Sushi and losing good men in one of our tanks. Frustrating but considering the alternatives we prevented death.

Trying to cut down some of the fighters so the allied planes could futher clear things out and thus reduce the need for the Kitty hawk to get into range.

Even if they didn't have the firepower to decisively damage the dreads, the ally planes could have at least kept them busy.

>if Command didn't tell Wittmann about the circumstances around the one instance where we lost soldiers, then how likely is it that they also failed to mention the SOVIET SUPERTANKS
They didn't tell her shit or she would know the whole story, which she doesn't.

>Can we tell Wittmann about them
If we've got clearance to read her in, then yes, which is something I think we should do.
>>
>>34400514

Maybe that's why the general sent us here? He expects Soviet supertanks to be in this sector so he wants to see how the American superweapons stack up against the Soviet ones?

That would have lead to more planes being shot down however and the flying carrier can still send, refuel, rearm any planes. not to mention the armament it had could have swatted other fighters out of the sky.

Also that still left the dreads still attacking the Kittyhawk
>>
>>34400588
>but it's the better choice imo
And you are flat out wrong.

Being inside the tank is the best place for her, and the scorpion is a fucking terrible idea that all but cripples her for life, for no good reason, because she'd be in our tank even if she did pick the scorpion, which I hope to god she didn't

The fact that in the situation we were in, the BEST possible result we could expect going up against those supertanks, is the result we got, and she wouldn't throw that in our face if she actually knew what happened.

She knows only the smallest bits from scuttlebutt, as simple as that

>>34400533
>The only reason Frank did that was because if he didn't fly in and intercept, the entire mission would have been a failure, along with the accompanying deaths of several witches.
Except that's not what was shown on TV.
All that was shown on the television, and wasn't commented on until later, AFTER the big fight between Wittmann and Jake, was Frank, apparently alone, flying into the middle of a huge Soviet air formation.
There was absolutely no context given in what was shown except "Frank Bishop flies into the middle of enemy air squadrons without support".

We, the players, knew that. But NPC's, who were just seeing it for the first time with no commentary explaining what was happening, would just see a gloryhound trying to go up against incredible odds in order to win a medal, when he should have been retreating.

Neither Jake nor Wittmann knew the reasons for Frank's suicidal charge; to Wittmann, it proved Jake's assertion that the Bishops are not gloryhounds. To Jake, it was Frank preferring to stand and fight, when escape was no longer an option.

As for what happened after, Frank continues to rack up medals and awards, not dispelling Wittmann's assessment.
The problem with exemplary bravery and competence is that it's difficult to separate it from medal-seeking (so long as things work out) because we can't get inside the head of the person to know WHY they did what they did.

Yeah, but someone else determined the sector and part of the frontline we would be sent to.
We would have been useful at any place: Mid East, they have confirmed Soviet supertank presence.
Europe, expected Soviet supertank deployment.
China, intel pointing to Chinese Shagohod/Metal Gear deployment.

Whichever theater we chose, we would have been thrown at a superweapon.

so you didn't reread the threads, and are basing this off of memory.
Thing is, I reread thread 20 right before hopping into this one. Dr Light tells us that the Scorpion is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
He never said it was worse, only permanent. Also, he said that the chimpanzees that were given the scorpion were stronger than the ones without, at the cost of earning the ire of the unaugmented chimps. The only real problem I can see with the scorpion is if it has a defect and doesn't do its intended job. So long as it does its job, it has no real problems.

The good news is, I left inline notes for myself in the document! Mav and Goose were on base, at the rec facility, trying to distract themselves, take their minds off it. When you'd have arrived, they'd have just sat down to watch TV with a bunch of pilots.

Mav took it hard, but was clamping down on it for Goose's sake, because she felt she couldn't show what she was feeling in front of the kid. Goose, on the other hand, was probably processing it best- she didn't really interact with Frank much directly, didn't really know him like that, and to her it was sad, yeah, but it's like when your best friend's friend dies. Nazis are very much still badguys. the major difference here is that, instead of WW2 removing that particular cancer, the people of Germany did it themselves when it became apparent the SS was still waging der fuhrer's war instead of throwing their entire effort into beating the invaders.

And as for star wars, no. that was a long long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, anon.

Okay, Thanks that gives me some ideas now. I appreciate the info.

It was either asking that or Looney Toons

They may well have plans for removal, but perhaps the implantation would essentially make the damage permanent. Like, the equivalent of having to amputate a limb when you don't have access to antibiotics. The treatment exists, but the quick solution precludes it.

You know we can regrow amputated segments and reattach new grown limbs to them completely repairing the damage the amputation did these days right?

Warcraft wouldn't have changed, completely fantasy setting. Besides, it's not out yet, we're only just into 90.

Starcraft... I intensely doubt it'd have changed. It also won't drop in setting for, what, another six-seven years?

>>34403030

It'd probably just be a letdown, to be honest.

>>34403166

No, medical science actually is more advanced on the high end- the influx of martian technology saw to that. And major shooting wars do tend to amp up the speed of medical progress with regards to trauma treatment and prosthesis, so. Your average, everyday treatment is pretty much what we know, though.

You'd have to ask maus. Only thing I can think of is that the procedure to remove it is incredibly difficult and/or expensive, but scorpion isn't my thing.

Which are negated by healwitches and the supporting environment the characters are in...

That is kind of surprising> Though I imagine she'll take it literally or question the purpose of it?

So 1990 = 2014 in medical tech?

Actually, it's already been stated repeatedly throughout the entirety of SWQ, SW89, and TW89 that even with magic and improved technology, it doesn't mean that recovery from serious injury is always perfect or possible.

Of course, you don't know this because you don't read these threads for the actual story, you're just hoping you can fap to some hot hot (FADE TO BLACK)

Please go and stay go.

Not metal rods, wooden dowels. She was using the dowels as ramrods to load the flintlock with flechettes and put them all over the place so she wouldn't need to carry one. None of the operators seemed to be wearing plates so their vests didn't do much for them.
