Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you were contracted to kill someone, arrived at the Water Temple, and put on a demonstration.

You wave cheerily to the Varistha, grinning wearily. He doesn't return your wave. He looks... contemplative? Wary? You're not entirely certain. You turn your attention away from the Sehzade and instead devote it to the crowd. The cheers are starting to die down, slowly but surely. You bow low, once to all four sides of the arena. When the atmosphere is finally quiet enough that you can speak over the mutterings you raise your voice. “Honored friends! What you have just witnessed is your first glimpse at a new game I've invented. Books containing the rules to play are being printed as we speak. If you would be interested in procuring one, please speak with me when you can. For now, I must meditate.”

You carefully pick your way across the ice and snow covered arena. You're starting to realize you created far more than you consciously realized. Thick forest wind their way between odd glacial buttes. The crumpled, lifeless figurines of animals lay scattered across the field. You even notice a small shrine in a forest grove surrounded by prostrate worshipers. To be honest, it's a little concerning. You really hadn't intended to create such detail.

You slip out through the arena gates, wincing as you enter the sunlight. The clouds you conjured weren't as thick outside the arena and have quickly dissipated. You notice that people are only just starting to trickle out of the gates on the upper level, but you've no doubt that trickle will soon be a flood. You don't see your friends anywhere, but you suppose they know where your rooms are.

Contacting Demetrios seems pretty popular. You'll do that, along with telling your companions you're headed inside.

>>34368784
They are speaking Samjan, Profectus has no idea what's going on. Fulvia can understand the basic gist of things.
>>
>>34368825
Since we are about to meditate, can we contact Darzi and ask her if she wants to heal her scars now.
>>
>>34368825
>They are speaking Samjan, Profectus has no idea what's going on. Fulvia can understand the basic gist of things.
Will they bother switching to Rhynian if it appears the gang doesn't speak Samjan?
Remember guys, Samjan are a tad xenophobic.
>>
Since we have a lot of free time right now we should probably talk about what to do. I suggest meditating on the effects we learned, and only then starting with water meditation, because if we keep reading about effects without ever meditating on them it's going to be kind of useless.
>>
>>34368522

FUCK
>>
>>34368869
Yeah, I just checked, we have 3 effects we learned haven't meditated on, and we should also probably test our armor and weapon.
>>
>>34368894
It's the dead god, huh
>>
>>34368913
I think it's just because we used too much vys at once. Soma said it's bad for us.
>>
>>34368913
GOD DAMN IT DEAD GOD
>>
>>34368913
Probably, only other thing that relates to a shrine we've met is the fire spirit and the dragon, but the spirit was all business, and we resisted the mindfuckery of the dragon (for the most part)
>>
>>34368962
I did notice the line where Mik's arms turned blue, but if using lots of Vys causes lapses of awareness that's a bit concerning.
>>
>>34368993
>>34368962
Soma, said that there is no adverse affects from refilling our vys instantly, so i think its the same for wasting it.
I'm in favor of thinking its the dead god doing shit with our power.
Also i think the head priest noticed the army movements we used was rythian.

Lets try and get the healing thing out of the way first.
>>
>>34368962
He said it harms where the vys exists the body
>>
>>34369045
Where?
All he said is that the body deteriorate when it gets too much vys for it to hold, its also why we need a bigger vys pool if we don't want to feel fatigue from using our magic armour.
>>
>>34369041
Before we heal Darzi I'd like to talk to her about what the bandits did to her.
>>
>>34369073
Sure, but i have a feeling rolling will be needed, and we only have 1 vys.
>>

From Soma's ask page.
>>
>>34369065
On the ask page.

>Do you harm yourself if you recharge your vys quickly. For example your in a battle low on vys you try to max your vys by absorbing from Fulvia's generator or from a enchanted item we have have that stores vys.And if it does what is a safe amount of time like 5 minutes to over a hour?

>So long as you're absorbing less than your maximum amount of vys, you won't harm yourself. I hinted that expending too much vys too quickly can harm you though, especially where it exits the body.
>>
>>34369065
>magic armour.
Speaking of which should we use this, when we meditate?
>>
>>34369108
Soma hinted on his ask page that it may have very positive or very negative effects, as far as I could tell
>>
>>34369093
>>34369088
>>34369099
Huh, here is hoping healing can heal the damage then, but i also wonder if having a bigger vys pool lessens the damage.(like when we have 60/60 vys, wasting 30 will do nothing to us.)
>>
>>34369125
Yeah, i think so to, but it seems like the negatives can be negated by having a larger vys pool.

You make your way quickly towards the dilapidated bathhouse. You hadn't really noticed when you were inside, but it's practically a ruin. Large chunks of what was once an ornate facade are missing and the colonnade that graced the entrance has mostly turned to rubble. You slip through the crumbling doorway into the dimly lit bathhouse inside, reaching out towards your companions via the brooches. {I'm inside, I really, really need to rest. Darzi, come see me when you get the chance and make sure the others don't make asses of themselves.} Her reply comes a moment later. {I will do my best but I offer no guarantees.}

You press yourself flush against the wall to shimmy past the pool of water, but as soon as your hands press against the slick stone pain shoots through your arms. You jerk your hands away on instinct, taking a moment to inspect them. What you see... isn't good, at all. It looks like you've kept a hot coal clenched in your fist until it seared away the flesh. Your entire palm is red and raw, and the skin in the center as well as at the tips of your fingers is charred black. It won't be too difficult to heal, but in your current drained state you wouldn't be able to manage it. You'll need to meditate first.

You quickly hide your hands in the voluminous sleeves of your robes, carefully picking your way past the pool. Without the aid of your arms to steady yourself you have a difficult time of it, but manage to avoid tumbling into the water. As you begin to descend the stairwell into the temple proper, you reach out across a vast expanse to Demetrios. {Good news, my friend! I yet live!} His response comes only a moment later. {Mikhael! Gods above, I've been trying to contact you all week! Where have you been?}

If we meditate with something healing-related for all 3 or 4 insights we can get now, we'll have grandmaster level healing without being a grandmaster. We already have healing insights, so getting water manipulation early is impossible, is what he's saying.
>>
>>34369893
Never mind, i thought we had gotten 2 healing insights instead of 1.

{I don't have much time to explain, I'm rather exhausted, but I visited a different dimension and it's given me ideas for an expansion of Siege!. It was a strange, desolate land rife with twisted monstrosities and strange people. Humans were the only race, elves and my own people existing merely as legends from the distant past. The inhabitants replaced large swathes of their flesh with metal and wires.} You start to push memories of your time there to the forefront of your thoughts, with the hope that they'll be transmitted through the brooches. You focus on what you saw of the people, those strange rent open pigs, and the giant lizards you encountered. You also touch on the Elephant Man and various other mutants, and the scenery and weapons as well.

{Their weapons were strange. Instead of using sword, bow, or spear they had firearms. Pistols, rifles, and innumerable other categories. They're much more advanced than the firearms you or I would be familiar with though, capable of rapidly firing and putting holes in almost any armor.} As you conclude your little speech Demetrios' voice filters through the connection. {I'm standing here staring off into space wide-eyed and open-mouthed while in the middle of a classroom full of pupils, Mikhael. They probably think I'm crazy. Regardless, I'll make note of what you showed me. Do try to stay in this section of reality in the future, won't you?} You smirk, despite yourself. {No promises, now tell me! How is Siege! doing? What news do you have for me?

(1/2)
>>
>>34369976
> Mohan Solak: Fellow Apprentice. A quiet young man who was secretly the biggest pervert you knew.
Alright Soma, this is important:
Is this guy a bigger pervert than Profectus?
>>
You come to the door at the base of the stairwell and rip away a small portion of what little remains of your power, channeling it into the ancient wood. The door swings open after a moment and you pass quickly into the temple grounds, listening to Demetrios' response while making your way towards your room. {Siege! is doing well. We've gotten the rule book written and several scribes are working tirelessly to make copies. The copies we've sold have earned us good money but we've yet to turn a profit. Some of my students have been performing demonstrations in city squares, the marketplace, and on campus to garner attention.}

Well, you suppose that's good news. After all, they've started making copies of the books and bringing in money, even if they're still spending more than they make. {As for news, are you familiar with the Knyaz?} You squint at nothing in particular, trying to dredge up any memory of that title. {No, I can't say that I have.} Demetrios continues. {He's an elven warlord ruling on Elda.-} Ah, this must be that warlord Sadik wanted you to steal a gem from. {-I believe his official title is something like, 'Vladan I of House Dragov, Knyaz of the Isles'. Anyway, he recently declared war on a handful of small elven states on the Rhynian mainland. Some say he intends to unify the elves and found a new empire.}

(2/3)
>>
That's... concerning. This might mean you'll need to change your plans regarding securing that gem. If he's off leading armies, you might be able to just waltz into his fortress and snatch it from him. Alternatively if he's taken it with him, you're going to need to find a way to infiltrate his army. {Anything else?} Demetrios' reply is prompt. {Eh, not particularly. Rumors and hear say. Experiments escaping from a Rhynian ruin, raiders harassing the northern coast. Other than that, it's been quiet.} Doesn't sound too out of the ordinary. {Thanks, Demetrios. I'll try to keep in touch.}

You sever the connection with that, pushing open the door to your room and stumbling inside. You collapse onto the uncomfortable mattress, for a moment finding it the softest bed in the world. You'd like nothing better than to just close your eyes, curl up, and take a nap. Sadly, there is much still to do today.

>Wait for Darzi, you'll need her here if you intend to heal her wounds.
>Catch a quick nap after all. It will recharge your vys and you'll be better able to focus when you heal Darzi.

You decide that maybe a nap wouldn't be such a bad idea after all. It will help you recharge your vys! Faster than meditation would, too. You're asleep practically as soon as your eyes close. You drift lazily through the realm of dreams for a long while, not really cognizant of what is going on. Memories twist together into incomprehensible jumbles of thought and vanish the next instant.

Slowly, you become aware of yourself. The color of your dreams begins to drain away, replaced by the pitch black of the void. You stand on an flat, invisible plane. Before you sits a familiar sight, Ricky and his amalgamation of furniture. However, you're viewing it from a different angle than before. Where you think your head would usually emerge from your cloak there is a thin slit of bright, white light, shifting and formless. Currently Ricky sits in mid air, floating, by some means you can't discern. Across from him sit a figure, similar but not quite the same as Ricky. It has four arms, and ist body is skeletal. Its face is a blank sheet of some strange, chitinous material. The same material covers the rest of its body. Its feet fade into a tangle of ethereal tentacles, their proper shapes impossible to distinguihs.

Floating above its hand is a strange, twisting object. Five pyramids are attached to a central cube, and at the top a diamond-shaped object spins. The creature seems to be in a conversation with Ricky, its fingers blurring together as it forms innumerable arcane gestures faster than the eye can follow. Ricky responds with chattering and clicks of his beak. Neither seems to have noticed you, which you find odd. You'd assumed Ricky could read your thoughts. Could he be showing this to you intentionally, or did you wander into some sort of secret meeting unconsciously?

>You dream of the sun god, Surya, looking down at you disdainfully from on high. He reaches across the great distance and stabs his finger roughly into your shoulder, the flesh seared where he touches. When he speaks, it is a language you've never heard before.
>“Γεια σου; καμήλα πόρνη;”
>He slaps you in the back of the head, sending you falling forward. The ground gives way and you tumble through blackness. As Surya grows ever more distant, his voice booms forth once more in that strange tongue.

and

>You hear a sigh from behind you, and more mumbling in that strange language.
>“Αυτό εραστή καμήλα κοιμάται σαν πέτρα.”

You realize with some small amount of disgust as you watch the creature gesture that it doesn't have four arms, rather it has two arms that split in half at the elbow, allowing it four hands. You can't help but wonder if this creature and Ricky are part of some broad category of monsters, or if they are unique amongst the endless expanse of the void. You decide to merely watch the situation unfold rather than interrupt and risk angering the creature.

As you observe, Ricky's chattering gradually grows in intensity and volume. By contrast the other creature's gesturing slows, becomes more understandable. You realize that is fingers don't seem to be linked in any way to his hands. They bend and twist in horribly unnatural ways and form symbols hands really shouldn't be able to make. You're not sure if they're arguing or simply chatting amongst themselves. Regardless, it seems to be growing heated.

Ricky lets out a horrid screech and you're forced to wince. The other creature abruptly stops gesturing and that levitating artifact above its hands seals itself off, the various pieces pressing flush against the cube at the center. It glows dimly, and then there is a bright flash. You're momentarily blinded. When you're able to see once more, the creature is gone and Ricky is standing passively where he'd once been levitating. He turns to face you slowly, nodding his head to you. You're not really sure whether to consider that a comradely gesture, or a greeting, or what. Regardless, you find your view of the void fading away.

Your eyes snap open to the sight of your dimly lit room. You feel unbelievably refreshed, no joint pain, throbbing headache, parched throat, or any of the various other ailments that come with being low on vys. You push yourself into a sitting position and stretch out, rolling your shoulders and cracking your neck. Darzi is nowhere to be found, so you assume she left you alone once she realized you were asleep. You're not really sure how long you've been out, there are no windows in this room after all. You feel like it ought to be sometime in the afternoon but you're not really certain. You do note a small pile of orange robes sitting on the desk. Those are likely your monk robes.

You take a moment to inspect your hands and find they're not as bad as they were before you fell asleep. Most of the charred flesh has flaked off, revealing the bones of your fingertips, but the reddened flesh has returned to a healthy shade. The wounds don't bleed, cauterized as far as you can tell.

You channel vys into your palms, watching the flesh knit itself back together. It strikes you as intensely odd that channeling vys through your palms was the cause of your wounds in the first place, yet you're doing the same thing to heal them. It's even the same type of magic, Water magic. A truly double edged sword, you suppose. Once you've finished the flesh is smooth and flawless, exactly as it was before your injured yourself. Small amounts of flesh like this aren't a problem for you, but you have to wonder whether you'll be able to do the same for Darzi.
>Vys Pool: (28/30)

You stand up and make your way towards the door. When you pull it open you find the hallway filled with an unexpected number of people. You count at least twenty, crammed into the narrow little hall. Profectus has been cornered in front of his doorway by a group of monks varying in age and is chatting happily in Rhynian, they all seem to speak it fortunately, some rougher than others. Fulvia, Skull Kid, and Mortia are grouped together, Fulvia acting as a translator. Chryssa and Darzi are nowhere to be seen. As soon as you step outside you find yourself surrounded by curious faces.

“That was an impressive display! You really must tell me how you conceived of such a thing.” One of them exclaims. “You said there were rule books? Where might one procure one of these tomes from?” Another ask. “So why are you here? Are you striving to become a Grandmaster, or are you merely retreating here for a time?” Inquires a third. You're a little overwhelmed after only just waking up.

You hold up your hands in mock surrender. “Friends, please! While I would love to speak with you I've made prior arrangements and I'm already late as it is. We can discuss this later, perhaps over dinner, yes?” There are some nods of assent and on of them, the oldest of the crowd, speaks. “Of course, of course. Apologies for cornering you like this. It's just such a perfect method for teaching our younger disciples control. I'm sure you understand.” You nod solemly. “Of course, and I'll be happy to expound upon this method at some later date, but for now I really must get going. Oh, and do go easy on my companions. Not many of them can speak our language with any sort of fluency.”

One of the monks grins. “Oh, we'll be sure to speak slowly and clearly so the degenerates can understand. That one woman seems a surprisingly quick study when it comes to our tongue. Her talent ought to be enough to cover for the rest of your entourage.” You're not sure why, but that really rubs you the wrong way. You're not sure if he thinks they're your slaves or if he just thinks them so inferior to your own people that they may as well be simple minded idiots. On an objective level you realize you're only offended because they're your friends, and you'd be like to agree with the man were they simply strangers, but it still rankles.

>>
You wave the man off dismissively and brush past the crowd, stepping briskly up to Darzi's door and knocking three times. It jerks open after a moment, revealing Darzi's irritated face. When she sees it's you she pulls the door wider and grabs you by the collar of your robes, jerking you inside and slamming the door behind you. “Damned monks, they're like animals out there. Why did you have to go showing off and drawing all this attention to us?” You shrug your shoulders. “Because it will ultimately make me money? I need to spread the word about my investment.” She grumbles something you don't quite catch, and stalks over to her bed, plopping down next to Chrys. You hadn't even noticed her sitting there.

“What have you two been doing?” Darzi shrugs her shoulders. “Chatting, mostly.” She grins sadistically. “Chrys had quite a lot to say about-” Before she can finish her sentence Chrys clamps a hand over her mouth, glaring holes into the other woman. Darzi rolls her eyes, and a conversation seems to pass between the two unheard. Finally Chrys huffs moodily and removes her hand from Darzi's mouth. Darzi simply sticks her tongue out at her tauntingly before returning her attention to you. “Sorry, guess I can't go gossiping all about her secrets.” Chrys simply grumbles. “By their very definition secrets are not supposed to be discussed.”

You decide to simply move on. Whatever they were discussing before you entered is hopefully none of your concern, and to be frank you find this sort of behavior impossibly tedious. “Well since apparently I'm not eligible to know the secret, what did you two think of my demonstration? Very nearly forced myself to pass out in the process of casting and maintaining the show, I'd hope it was impressive.” Darzi nods her head enthusiastically. “Yeah, are you kidding me? It was amazing. The detail is what really got me, the decorations on the fortress and the wildlife in the forest. It blew my mind that you were able to keep a battle of several hundred individual figures going while at the same time managing to simulate a wolf stalking its prey through a snow-covered forest. I'm not a fan of the attention it attracted but the event itself was amazing.”

Huh, you don't... really remember doing that at all. Perhaps you were simply acting on instinct? Your thoughts are interrupted by Chrys. “My sentiments mirror Darzi's. The monk's are annoying at best and offensive more often than not, but the demonstration was impressive. I look forward to the day I surpass you and put on an even more impressive display.” Sheesh, talk about cocky. You're not sure if she's teasing you or if she's serious about intending to one day surpass you in skill, regardless you don't think it's particularly likely. You trained with your master for more than a decade and he could still probably beat you effortlessly in a real fight. “Keep dreaming, Chrys. I'll be old and insane by the time you have a chance of beating me in a magical duel.”

You move on before she can respond. “Darzi, are you ready for me to heal your scars?” She nods her head, confidently. “I believe so, but I have been thinking. I want you to leave the scars on my arms untouched. They will serve to remind me of the trials I have faced and serve as proof of my captivity.” You raise an eyebrow. While that makes sense, it's certainly not what you were expecting. Especially considering how self conscious she is about her scars. Regardless, you carry on. “I can manage that easily enough. You do understand that in order to remove your scars I'll first need to cut out the tissue, correct?”
(2/3)
>>
Darzi frowns. “I know, though I'm not particularly looking forward to the experience. Is there any way you could put me to sleep for the duration?” You rub your chin contemplatively for a moment. You could ask around to see if anyone has some poppy seed oil, that would put her right to sleep. You suppose you also have some liquor, if she drank enough she'd likely pass right out. You were hoping to save that, though. You haven't yet learned the 'Sleep' effect, though you have a book that contains it...

>Mortia is an alchemist, right? Maybe she has something that would help with this.

would depends on how many vys you pump the spell with, like para/poison
>>
>>34374572
It's a magically induced sleep, if they succumb to the spell outside of combat situations they'll conk out immediately and stay asleep for at least an hour, maybe longer. The more vys you use in the spell, the deeper the sleep will be and the longer it will last.

You hold up a finger. “One moment, I'll ask around. I'm sure there is an apothecary somewhere in the area, if not in the temple itself than in town.” She nods, visibly relaxing. “Very well, if you do not find anything I'm sure this temple features a brewery.” You nod, and slip out of the room. The crowd has thinned somewhat, but a few still hang around. The atmosphere at least is a lot less frantic, for lack of a better word. Oddly enough you don't see Profectus anywhere. You tap the nearest monk on the shoulder to get his attention and he turns, nodding to you. “Tell me friend, where might I find an apothecary?”

He smiles. “Ah! Of course, you'll want to head into town. There is an old woman who lives in a shack on the beach. She has all manner of tinctures, tonics, salves, and potions for sale. Some of them even the ancient enchanted potions of the Hiacians and Rhynians, though those are horribly expensive. Can't recall her ever actually selling a single one.” You nod your head in thanks, but a thought occurs to you. “Will I need to leave the same way I entered, or is there an easier way down the mountain?” The monk looks confused for a moment. “Were you not told? If you leave through the gardens there is a path down the mountain that exits in the temple fortress.”

You duck into your room and close the door behind you, taking a moment to slip out of your master's robes and instead pull on the robes the monks left for you. They're a bright orange with white trim, but fairly undecorated otherwise. Once garbed, you slip out of your room and make your way towards the gardens, where the Varistha had said to meet him when you were ready.

You press your palm flat against the door you recall opening into the garden and channel just a touch of vys into it. The door swings open after a few moments pause and you step through into the humid garden. Monks rush to and fro to attend to the plant growing here. You spot poppy flowers, haoma, flax, and a variety of other plants. The centerpiece of the room is a spindly olive tree, it must be unbelievably ancient judging by the size of it. It almost looks like five or six trees twisted together, with a small hollow at its center where the monks have placed a water basin.

You see no sign of the Varistha, so continue on to the portion of the gardens that extends into the caverns. There is no ceiling in these caverns, likely removed or collapsed some time ago. The centerpiece of this particular cavern is a large pond which seems to be where many of the monks have congregated to soak in the last few rays of sunlight before the cavern is plunged into shadow. Varistha Sehzade is perched on a rock, meditating from what you can tell. However, as you get closer you realize that he's snoring softly and his posture is slouched. He's fast asleep.

(1/2)
>>
You pause, you recall your Master had a preternatural sense of his surroundings even while asleep. You'd certainly think that someone well over a thousand years old would have the same ability, if he'd been at all diligent about pursuing magical development that is. If that were the case he would already know you're here. Could he be testing you, somehow?

The DC was 25 for it to sound remotely decent. It still sounds bad, you don't need to worry.
>>
>>34379854
>>34379882
Are you both mislinking?
>>
You sit down across from the Varistha and reach into your cloak, withdrawing your oud. Were this a play, ominous music would probably be playing as the villain reveals his secret weapon. Instrument in hand, you sit across from the Varistha on a large stone. You spend a few moments experimenting with the knobs, trying to figure out just what it is they do. It doesn't take you long to figure out they adjust the tension of the strings, though you're not really sure what sort of effect this has on the music produced.

You start to pluck the strings, tremulous and halting at first. The sound is... off, so you fiddle with the knobs some more. You pluck a few more strings and find that it sounds better, though the thinnest string still sounds really tinny and harsh to your ear. Ah well, you'll leave it as is for now and worry about it later. You start strumming away at the strings and a noise vaguely reminiscent of a cat practicing autoerotic asphyxiation thunders forth into the stillness of the gardens.

You hear a dog howling from the direction of the village, and soon other voices join it as you continue to strum away at the oud with senseless vigor. Birds flee through the hole in the ceiling as quickly as they can. Monks quietly begin to filter out of the gardens while others stare in awe at your (lack of) skill. Somewhere a musician begins to sob without knowing why. Your mind is filled with a hellish, unnatural screeching as Ricky begins to sing along in a voice incomprehensible to your mortal mind.

(1/2)
>>
You finish your 'song', though really it was just a series of noises played very loudly and quickly, and the Varistha cracks open a single eye. You're not sure if he's irritated or amused. He opens his mouth, then closes it again. Searching for words to express his appreciation of your talent, surely. When he finally speaks it wasn't exactly what you were expecting. “I will pay you to not do that ever again.”
