Previously:
San Diego is wiped out by a tidal wave, a young man caught in the deluge as the city is erased by what some might consider the very wrath of god in a world with a sky of endless colors. Snatched from the brunt of the wave, the young man faces an inhuman creature of humanoid form that strikes out his eye to deliver onto him the gift of magic by means of the followers.

Praise be to Susej they say. These followers.

Selfish in his means of survival, a young man rallies with these people for his own safety as the government seeks to keep the truth of the world under wraps, that magic exists and that people like the followers are throwing it into chaos.

Sent on a mission to liberate people captured for conscription based on their awakening to magic, he journeys with others to meet with a woman planted for this very purpose, finding adversity on the way.

Having left a trail all too easy to follow, he's been captured and taken to the very place he'd been looking to gain access, though not exactly on his own terms...

Recently rescued by unknown allies, the young man takes on a new alias “Faust” to help him lay low.

You are Faust, welcome to Over(human)Limit S2

Everyone sits in quiet guided meditation within the woods. Spots cleared and Marcus's grim spectre watches over the procession, his gaze frequently lingering on the vocal harp that conducts the astral practice.

Quiet breathing, some strained groans as some of them are forced to deal with inner demons.

In your meditation, you spoke a recent false name and broke through what felt like a wall to find an entirely new place. A library? Or perhaps a study? A lab? You faintly recall the alchemical circle adorning the ceiling, the symbols slowly fading from your mind and into a blur.
Again and again you try to force yourself through wielding mana for a chance at entry yet to no avail.

Instead, you occupy yourself by reworking your contract with Nora. She's a bit of a bitch about it, but she agrees to change the clauses concerning the followers to “Zeitgeist” on the condition that you work on your summoning. She wants you to be good enough to summon her in her true form instead of a little mockery.
You concede that point and find yourself once more with nothing to do.

Opening your eyes, you abandon the practice. Marcus's eyes fall upon you and you look back to him spiteful with frustration. Doesn't seem like he cares all to much. You do not speak for fear of ruining the concentration of others and instead head off to the side, holding up a tree with your back as you watch the others, slipping into astral sight.

Something blooms from Roseanne's form, twisting and weaving itself around her like a natural growth. Painted reds and lipstick shades atop a natural forest green. Her aura seems to find some manner of peace.

The thing you saw hanging over Gertrude is gone now, that black thing now rests within her soul. Deep and hollow, staring into it is like looking into the hunger of the world. You find yourself needing to force your eye away. There's something wrong with that woman, as kind as she seems.
>>
>>34328347

The shadows around Tony stand around him, watching him in quiet accusation. After a while one of them, a taller one, looks at you with quiet understanding and a sense of loss. Sorry William, he's part of Zietgeist now. Can't touch him.

That Edge Kid's aura keeps jutting around, half forming into an angle intermittently before returning to a blob-like mess. Shit focus you guess.

Fox girl's tail waves back and forth like she's amused about something. Now and then she giggles, distracting the people closest to her. What the hell's so funny? A set of glowing yellow eyes appears from her shroud, bristling orange fur around it, to look back at you. Again you look away.

Seems people know when they're being watched.

John's situation seems... Oddly normal. Nothing really changing for him. That's good... you guess.

Elena's aura bristles, blackens and then whitens up with another set of bristles. With a squint, you can sort of see it as some kind of amoeba or something. Thought she was a germaphobe? The aura pales up again and she screams, snapping you back to observing the real.

Saph is up and by her side in moments, taking a knee, yet keeping her hands off the woman as she freaks out, “What's the matter? It's okay, just tell me what's wrong.”

“I... I don't like what I saw. Why does it have t be that? I don't want that anywhere NEAR me!” Her voice is stricken afraid, hands around her shoulders to cradle her with comfort.

“It's not there to hurt you. It's there to guide you. Be not afraid. It won't come any closer unless you're ready...”

“But it's so disgusting, why would it want me?”

“Because you're one of the ones that minds it the most. It wants to lend you strength, for you to accept it as you would want to..”

“But I don't want to accept it! Why me?” Elena breaks out into sobs, “Why-y...”
>>
>>34328375

Saph's arms finally come around her and you observe the astral again. The amoebic seems to split. One where Elena should be, and the other... Is it infectious?

Saphira rises, holding Elena by the hand, “I understand, come. Let's go wash you off, it'll make you feel better.” She then looks out to everyone else, “Continue on your own if you'd like, we will begin again in the morning.”

The Fox-Girl raises her hand, “Hey! I have a question please!”
“Is it quick?” Saphira's turned, beginning to move Elena away.

“Yeah, I think. I'm just seeing myself in the mirror. Nothing else, what's with that?” Her voice is a bit nice to hear, but too cheery for the mood.

“You said your name, correct?”

“I did, I said Echo. Because Echo's my name. But then only I showed up. Thought it was weird.” She shrugs, hunkering down.

“That... Is odd. Speak to me after I attend to her, okay?” Saphira walks off and down to the river, most everyone relaxes, while Gertrude remains in pose for meditation.

John looks over to you with a bit of a laugh,” Any luck on your end, chum?”

You shrug in response,”Not really.” looking over to Marcus, he's been quiet, “What, not gonna follow your girlfriend?”

His back straightens and he shoots you what must be a deadly stare from behind that red mask. With a turn, he heads off into the woods without another word.

“Huh, trouble in paradise?” John scratches the rough on his chin after getting himself off the dirt.

“Think he's just always like that.”

Turning, around the tree, “Catch you later, gonna go see what is damage is.”

“Stay safe, guy rubs me a bit funny.”

“Thought that was the gay one.”

“A -different- kind of funny.” John chuckles with a wave, he heads back up to the cabin.

You head off into the dark, squinting at first to see, astral sight reveals a slight path of recognition left by Marcus, though it does you little good as it's fading fast. Of course, this is the kind of thing you don't bother remembering.
With a snap of your fingers, you set a small flame alight at the tip of your thumb and forefinger. There's a tickle as you use the spell, and the tips of your fingers burn a bit, butt that's from the closeness of the flame. After a few more snaps you have a few wisps of flame moving around, lighting your way as you walk. You catch Marcus making pace through the brush and increase yours into a bit of a jog.

“Hey, Marc-” Your foot catches an upraised root and you fall into a bush.
Thorns and branches snatch your clothing and bite into your skin, but you manage to pull yourself out, the baggy prison shirt more than a bit marred but you don't much give a shit.
As you look up, Marcus stands before you, just over the bush and looking down with the red eyes of his mask gleaming in the moonlight, the surface like the shell of a black beetle amidst the eclipsed sun design.

“What the hell do you want?” His voice filtering through the distortion effect of his mask, and it does nothing to hide his seemingly perpetual distaste for you.

Righting yourself, you stare back at him, almost defensively in the wake of a suppressed feeling of hostility. A shrug, and you try to play off a casual vibe, “Oh, nothing. Just wondering why you've got such a chip on your shoulder when it comes to me. Something I said?” You force yourself to smile sarcastically.
>>
>>34329837
The man barely budges. With that mask on you can hardly tell if he's human or not. “Your sarcasm is part of the issue.” He folds his arms. “You ignored me during my timed effort to rescue you and still persist in trying to irritate me despite my attempts to remove myself from your deviant presence. Further, I find you weak, insignificant and a liability. Your past is also an issue, and as I said before, you'd be dead in that cell if Saphira hadn't spoken for you.”

You catch yourself rolling your eye at one point, “Yeah, I get it. Ex-Terrorist doesn't look good on the resume but the one holding your leash says 'Don't bite so you bark inste-”

Marcus's form flashes a dark violet-Red, and he moves forward, through the bush, grabbing you firmly by the throat, a low rumble in his own turning into a cacophony of hellish sounds by his modifier. “There it is again.” You find yourself unwilling to struggle, something deep down in the reptilian part of your brain absolutely paralyzed by fear.

With you unable to breath, he comes in close. “I swear, if you disappoint her, the breach of contract will NOT be good enough to keep you from me. You will be hunted and have the scarcest clue why.”
“Now be a GOOD boy and stop taunting the dog.” He pushes you off and he turns around. You notice that he's walking through the bush, but you don't see his legs. Your breath returns to you, and you realize that your throat doesn't hurt at all.

You just forgot to breath.

“Hey, what the hell are you man? Bone? Vein? Something else?” You call after after you shake the mortal terror from your mind.

“Your bane.” He calls back, fading into the night.
>>
>>34329858
Backpedaling a bit, you turn your light back on and head back. He's an asshole but you can't blame him, He hates you for all the right reasons.
You rub away some goosebumps and head back to the camp to see Gertrude standing over Roseanne as the later woman touches a tree. Most everyone else has left by now for the cabin, though you're just in time to have Cassie pass by you, shooting you a look. For a moment, you think she recognizes you, but it isn't in her eyes.
“Hey.” She says, and she carries on with that blonde fellow from earlier.

Sheesh, one of these days.

“Is it saying anything?”

“She's sayin'... Hello... An' she's tellin her friends about me.” Roseanne whispers with a smile, petting the bark of the tree familiarly.

Annnd the southern woman's gone crazy. What else is new?

You head down to the river, giving Gertrude a nod as her eye catches you. Descending down the loamy soil to the moist riverside you see Saphira's fingers aglow with her bright sapphire luminescence as she manipulates flowing water, pouring it over Elena's head. The latter has her back to the forest, though you can see her pale nude skin glistening with wet moonlight.
Elena shivers, but she doesn't protest.

Saphira pauses briefly, glancing in your direction. “It's a bit rude to walk in on a woman taking a bath.”

Finding yourself staring, Elena looks back and turns meek, covering her modesty. “Wh-why are you here? Go away!”

You throw your hands up in your defense, “Hey now, hey now. I'm not here for you.” You put a hand over your eye with your fingers slightly parted to see. You point out at Saphira, “I'm here for you.”

“Can it wait?” Saphira weaves another wave of water to drop down upon Elena. Another delighted shiver of being “clean” traveling through the woman's body.

“It could, but I rather get it taken care of sooner than later. I've got a contracted summon and it's suffering a hex as well.”

“What's the nature of this being?” She asks dryly, touching Elena's shoulder. “Feel clean now?”

“N-no. But better.” Elena nods, her long dark air hanging over her shoulders.

“Get dressed and go to the others, I'll be after shortly.”

You cross your arms as you wait, partway moving your hand away from your eye to look at Elena. Mortal women haven't really been your thing lately but it's still nice to compare what they've got going on. Elena: Narrow ass, pretty flat. Defining feature, nice skin.
Feeling Saphira's stare, you cover in full rather than upset her.
>>
>>34330797

Once Elena's gone, you explain to her what Donner is. A wendigo, Native American demon if winter and hunger.

Understanding the situation, she shakes her head, “That sounds like an awful creature. I cannot lift its hex.”

You don't like the sound of that, but you notice, something. “Now, you said 'cannot' instead of 'will not.' Are you saying that you won't or that you actually can't do that rule of three thing again?”

“I cannot. The Rule of Three only applies to humans and other creatures of benevolent nature according to the tradition of Wicca.” She places a finger to the chin of her mask, “Though as its summoner you should be able to lift the curse with your own magic. You'd not been able to do that in the time of your imprisonment, right?”

“That's right.” crossing your arms, you look out at the river, “So, any tips at least?”

A nod from her, that's good. “It was a powerful hex said with a prayer to what Christians refer to as the Almighty God. It's our luck that their denominations throw the 'almighty' into a state of madness and instability. And that you are not a strong believer.”

“I try to be a bad christian.” You smirk at that one. “So what do I do?”

“Summon the creature, restrain it and remove the taint.”

“Sounds simple enough. I'm not going to be smited or anything, am I?”

She shakes her head, laughing dryly, “Well, no. But I will give you a suggestion...” She brings her hands together, her fingers laced. Her tone changes, and it sounds like more than a suggestion, “This... is a time of change. Great change. For better or for the worse. If you can, I'd like you to try to alter the demon's behavior. With your help, it may become something more than just an existence of cold, hunger, and suffering.”

A pacifist?
>>
>>34330818
>[] “I'll think about it.”
I rather not
But the first option just sounds stupid
>>
Just a thing to consider:

>Marcus' pillar more or less says "we kill those who prey on the innocent and ignorant"
>Our contract with Donner requires that we unleash him on innocents

Next full moon is going to be a clusterfuck, just sayin'.
>>
>>34330818
>>[] “But I like it that way.”
Donner is a windigo and windigos are defined by their hunger. He is viscous and dangerous but we point him at our enemies. He serves a similar purpose as Marcus and his pillar of whatever it was. His only purpose is to destroy those that would obstruct our path to our goals.
>>
>>34331040
we get better and summoning and we can remove that part of the contract and force him under control.
>>
>>34331064
We do that and we get an even shittier reputation with the mythos creatures. They all talk to eachother in the flow.
>>
>>34330818
>[] “That's an interesting idea...”

Brownie points are nice, and the change doesn't have to be good, linking him to blood for example could be helpful and keep him properly murderous. But with more purpose and life to it.
>>
>>34331064
Shitty idea.
I would like to have a rather good reputation with summons
>>
>>34331087
It's more within mythologies.
Odin doesn't talk to Yahwh.
Izanagi isn't gonna give a shit about how hard you fuck the fae.
Roman mythos aren't going to heckle you about Celtic.

Though they will know if you've aligned yourself.

>>34331105
This is a good point.
She never said to make it -not- a killing machine.
You can be effective without being a ravenous death-beast.

>>34330909
What she's saying is that based on what you have it do/how you treat Donner it could be changed into something more than a demon of winter hunger.
Hint at evolution of legends.
>>
>>34331274
What if we were to change him into being a gourmet eater instead of a glutton?

Make it so he doesn't want tons of civilians, he wants to kill and eat strong/tasty targets?

Something like that doable?
>>
>>34331309
Well, maybe still a glutton, just a snobbier glutton.
>>
>>34331309
That's exactly the kind of thing that she's talking about.
>>
>>34331365
Well, I'd love to do that. Keeps him as a ravenous killing machine but it makes it so Marcus doesn't fingerfuck our brain for it.
>>
>>34331309
Well gluttony and greed are similar, and we will likely be targeting wealthy/powerful people in our new "job". Maybe we could work that angle a bit, idk

“I will... consider it.” You say, with a hint of interest in your voice.

“That's all I ask.” She bows her head. “Give the demon form and we will begin.” She walks out into the water until it's pushing past her knees, which really isn't that far given her short stature.

Walking forward, you undo the astral ward that you'd imprisoned Donner within. You made a note a while back that in the case of rebellious summons, you could do this as well. A “Time out.”

As you do, the wailing pain comes forth again from the timeless monster. A deep sadness and primal pain.
Saphira seems a bit shocked at first, she feels it too, but she does well at hiding it, standing resolute against the flow of the river.

With a sigh, you speak the words you used when you first summoned the wendigo.
“Demon of the winter wastes...” You pause, thinking to yourself. You'll adjust the next part...

Steadying your hands, you decide to use the water as a medium. He'll freeze it as he appears anyway.

“Hunter that leaves not a trace.” The air grows still, a spectacle you'd never noticed before during a summoning. The crickets cease.
“Consume the warmth that hugs the earth and bringeth doom to those given birth.”
The river frosts over, water spilling over the banks as the pocket that you're focusing on rapidly cools.
“I bid you to appear, to stalketh those that breath air.” You grow innately wary of your own breath, you feel an alarmed shiver from Saphira as well.
“When darkness falls you'll come.” The illuminated ice of the summoning grows black, crackling dark as something begins to form.
“Then the game is on.”
>>
>>34331965
An inhuman cry erupts into the surrounding world, lingering and dragging on like the thunder of a horn, the call of something old and malevolent.
The summoning magic fades and a creature of shrouded form creaks through the ice, gleaming red eyes appearing from the mists, staring you down. “Paiiiiinnnnn Summmmonurrr.” It drawls on, whimpering, shuddering.
“Sooo lonnng painnn” A wisp of cold vapor curdling from its maw.

It falls to the riverside, the water washing over its frigid body as it trembles, “Sooo muuuuch painnn...”

Saphira looks to you warily, “I'm watching.” Is all she says.
Great vote of confidence.

Staying a safe distance away, you look to Saphira as the beast continues groaning. “Tell me, what do I do?”

It takes time as the hex runs deep, intermingling with Donner's origin and drawing upon its natural violence to perpetually trigger.
You've lived with this hex for months now though and so has he, likely putting him through something akin to mortality or whatever that means to an incorporeal existence.

With precision, you remove the “cancer” from Donner and the demon seems to be put at ease. In your astral viewing, its auric form seems to slowly regenerate from ambient ether.
Holding the hex incarnate remotely via mana, you view it as a seething ball of punishment, condescension. It ripples and kicks as though trying to free itself from your ether prison manifest.

“You are quite skilled.” Saphira comments. “You followed my instruction very closely.”

“I've had time to familiarize myself with mana.”

“Oh? That is what you call it?” She doesn't sound surprised, more like a subtle intrigue at a difference.

“Went through a few names, but I figured it fit pretty well. Why? What do you call it”

“The flow, aether, though we've referred to it as mana as well. “

“Right.” You look back to the festering hex. A subtle fear in your mind that it might suddenly latch onto you. “What should I do with it?”

“Snuff it out.”

With that said you light the ether equivalent of flame and set it ablaze only to snuff it out as a whole. “Almost feels like I killed someone a little bit.”

“Not quite.” She corrects, “Though the feeling is the same, aura restores itself like DNA might.”
She almost seems to smile impatiently from beyond that mask, “If that's all, I'll be taking my leave. I have the others to tend to now.”

“Tend” she says. That's an interesting word. As though she's tending to a flock. You watch her depart, “I'll be back soon.”

“I expect it.”
>>
>>34332784
Back to Donner now. The demon looks at you, watches warily. “Youuu...” There's spite in its physical voice. {You let me suffer for ages, locked me away.}

“Yes, and I've also fixed you after I was released from my own. We shared that hex.”

{The season has nearly changed. Moons have passed. How long has it been?}

“I lost count myself. We were both in a prison. We both suffered.”

{I starved.}

“As did I.”

The Wendigo pauses for a moment. {You... do not look it. Yet you do not lie. What was it that you were starved.}

“Food and water, I survived as an ascetic trapped in an emotional, mental and physical prison Donner. I did you the same so that your screams would not drive me mad.” You cross your arms, your eyelid lowering slightly with a keen look. “You are saner now than I would have thought you'd be.”

The Wendigo takes a moment to examine its surroundings, gazing warily out into the wood. {We are further north. Wild lands... Ah, a morsel watches.}
Donner rises up, cold water dribbling off the black ice of his body, long frozen crystaline horns much like a stag and a lumbering werebeast form. He towers more than a meter above you as he looks out to the brush.

There's a rustle and something scurries off, Donner suddenly bidden to chase by instinct, you catch an orange tail within the astral.

With a hand out, you restrain him by the power of water you posses over his corporeal form. “No.” With a clenched fist you throw the entire beast back into the river as lances of heated pain shoot up your arm only to quickly fade.

With middle and thumb pressed together, you stare down the distraught Wendigo. {We had an agreement.}
>>
>>34332813
“Situation has changed.” You hold the threat of Fiend in your fingers. “We need to rework your contract. I need something more than a dumb animal.”

{Dumb Anim} The Wendigo speaks, but it yours in protest and you deliver a small part of the threat, like an explosion of furious red fireworks the air cracks inward and explodes into flame enough to graze the cold beast.

“Yes, a dumb animal is what you are.” You say cooly and calmly, “I would like to remake you.”

{Why should I?} The Wendigo growls and you raise your hand, causing it to recoil.

“See?” A condescending grin from you to match the domination in your eye, “You fear fire like an animal.”

Giving ground, the demon concedes, lowing its head and sloshing back through the river. {In what way?}

You rework the contract with Donner, replacing the clauses as you did with Nora and twist him into something more befitting his new tasks.
Though he was resilient, he quickly obliged your demands with the promises that it'd make him into a better and more efficient killer.

Once finished, Donner actually thanks you before returning onto the ether. He and Nora reunite, the fae crying black tears of joy in the reunion as she starts to tell Donner about everything that's happened since he was cursed. Which she actually just sums it up as a whole lot of nothing with a lot of aircraft that should be crash landing soon.

You return to the lodge and everyone's waiting there, with exception of Marcus and Eloc. You find from asking John that Marcus hasn't returned and Eloc disappeared somewhere...

You notice an out of place door at the back of the cabin, it's got a metal frame and metal composition as opposed to the rest of this cabin's wooden makeup. It's also not much like there's a basement here.

Everyone sits around the Cabin, some changing out of the prison clothes, trading around whatever'll fit for the moment. You take the time to appropriate a sleeveless black shirt and dark khakis. Bit spartan, but it'll do for now.

Saphira speaks with some of the others, telling them about what's expected of them for now and they listen.

You sit by Helia as she's still rightly passed the fuck out and you look down at her. Without thinking, you move away some hair that's in the way of her face with the back of your hand.
The color's returned to her face and she's not cold anymore. Fara's influence is really gone.
It's a good feeling, though a conflicted one and you find yourself frowning a bit at that.

“So, are you two an item or something? Because you two really look like an item. Though not the sort that you'd take. But definitely the sort that's nice to look at, and yes you're nice to look at.” You hear some jabbering voice and slowly turn with a leering eye to see “Echo” sitting on the floor near you, a big stupid smile on her face.

“What do you want?” Your brow twitches in the dim light of oil lamps illuminating the wood. “Trying to have a goddamn introspective moment here.”

“Oh, just, uh, curious. And you're interesting. I saw that thing earlier, what was it? It was all big and like, rawr!” She fixes her hand into a claw and scratches at the air in feigned ferocity.
Stopping the demonstration, she smiles at you, and pokes your face, “You're cute.”

“What? -I” You bring a hand to your forehead, “That was one of my, uh, minions. Look, I'm not really in the mood for-”

She pokes your nose this time and smiles, “You're cute.”

You cover your nose now, “Thank you?”

“You're welcome. So are you two an item? Just so you know- Demon Blade Spirit,” She rolls her eyes, “Devon, the edgy guy that you almost exploded earlier” Back to a smile, “Isn't my type.”

“Yeah sure, we're an item. How'd you know that I was going to explode him?” You adjust your hand on Helia's forehead and she shifts a little bit, closer to you.

You found Echo grinning a bit too wide at that little thing, “Knew it!” Her eyes flick to you, and she rolls back to sit, chuckling at something, “That finger thing. You did that that to the monster too. And Fox told me.”

You nod warily, “Fox?”

She shoves her hand in your face and you flinch back, her ring and middle finger touching her thumb, pinkie and fore upright. It looks vaguely like an animal. “Fox” she says. You shift to astral for a moment and see her aura gathered there and taking on a fox shape with smiling eyes.

~Hello person! I am Fox! You are... Not Faust. No, this is a fake name.~

You hear the thing speak through the ether and you switch back to the mundane, raising an eyebrow.

“Fox tells Echo secrets!”

“That your real name?”

“What name?” ~Fox is real~

“Echo.” You shift, and finally move the hand out of your face, only to get the other hand shoved in to replace it. This is... annoying.

“Echo is my name, yes.”

“But it's not the one your parents gave you.” You say, and her eyes open up in a moment of petrified shock before restoring her smile. Might've touched on something there...

“Echo is fine. Just call me Echo, okay?” With that hand-gesture, she pokes your nose and you swat it away with her giggling. “Fox gives you kisses, okay?”

“Yeah, yeah, okay. Can you leave me alone now?”

“Okay, okay!” She says aloud, but she sits there without moving, like some sort of statue.

“Wel-”
>>
>>34333508
>>34334559
A hand snakes past your guard before you have time to blink to plant another light poke on your nose, “Fox kiss!” She jumps up and slips behind Saphira as she approaches to hide from your wrath.

You rub at your nose and shoot the fox a death lo-You mean Echo a death look. Goddamnit.
“Hey Saphira, what's going on?”

She's silent for a moment, “Asher, you are... skilled, yes? You're confident in yourself?”

“Well, some shit I still need to try out since getting my mojo back, but yeah. I can handle myself.”

“I'd like for you to go out an help Marcus.”

You find yourself sneering at that without thinking about it. You consciously fix your face, “Why? He's strong, right? And what's going on?”

Echo sticks out a tongue from behind Saph, and you shoot her another glare.
“Danger, Danger. There's people coming.” She whispers.

“Under attack? Already? I thought we-”

“Shook pursuit? For whatever reason they couldn't pursue is by plane.”

Nora snickers, flickering into existence, “I had something to do with that.”

Saphira eyes the unseelie for a moment, “Thank you.” And back to you,” We had a contingency plan in case this happened in the first place, disabling trackers was apparently not enough. There are few, but we need them taken out, I'd prefer their deaths happen away from the others and I suspect that you're going to be part of Marcus's unit.”

“I may have considered that.” You say, holding your position.

“It'd help if he had more respect for you. And you're capable of sealing our exit and returning if we're fully compromised.” Her eyes go to the metal door situated at the back.

“Yeah, I need to stretch out my legs anyway, leave it to me.” You look down at Helia for a moment with Saphira and Echo watching. Getting up, you feel a hand grab you by the pants, pulling at you.

“I'm coming too.” Helia says with an uncommonly cold look in her eyes before meeting yours.

“No, you can stay.” You push her hand away, or rather try to as she gets up, looking away from you.

“I don't need to listen to you, you know.” There's a tinge of spite in her voice, “I'm going with you.”

“You're still recovering from getting your fucking soul torn apart,” You begin to raise your voice, “You're staying.”

“Ohhh, they're fighting. Miss Saphira, look, look,” Echo points, “They're fighting.”

“I'm free to do what I want... Faust. And I don't want you out there alone.” She snipes back.

“Helia, I don't want you out there.”

“The name is Emilia. We're not with...” Her eyes flicker to Saph, Echo, and the others that are listening in on the exchange. “It's Emilia. And why not?”

“Because I don't want you getting hurt out there. All you ever did was get hurt.” You make for the door.

She follows after, even so far as to push ahead of you.

“Wall!” You say, cutting her off outside with a barrier of earth. Without stopping, she walks through it, locking the soil around her and tightly compressing it with a dusky yellow glow.

“Thank you.”

“Goddamnit Emilia!” You can't help but to be pissed and smile at the same time, that was just too smooth of a slap to the face.

“I told you that I'm going.”

When the hell did she get this bold?

You send out your ravens and they take to the high, feeding back rudimentary information with eyes that see the astral. Too much of it is dark for pathfinding, not enough people, but it should make anyone moving an obvious blip.
>>
>>34335506
>>34334632

Emilia walks ahead, further compressing that soil until it's nearly the thickness of a traditional suit of armor. Not a step unimpeded.

“Not using blood anymore?” You ask.

She's silent for a moment, “That was reckless- I was reckless. I'm going to do better from now on. Not unless I need to.”

One of your birds sees something, you snap your vision to the astral and see a few small things flying up high. “As many as... seven bogeys up top. Can't see what they are. Need to be careful.”

“Think they're Wraiths?”

“Those black things?” You recall the chitin-black machines piloted with the bodies of humans on the inside. Fast with a fucking dangerous screeching attack that could make an eardrum burst.
“Might be, stay careful.”

They're coming in from above at high speed. Small flying things.. what could they be?

“Nora, go and play your tricks on them, force them down if you can.”
{Will do summoner!}

You continue walking forward a bit, “Emilia, they're walking this way, if we hide we can get the jump on them, I'll be summoning Donner as well.”

She stops walking, “Good idea, but I'm not hiding.” She sinks partway into the earth, taking a deep breath, the land moves into place, rising to link with her right arm. “It's a shame that Hot Rod left us, isn't it? Do we even remember his real name?”

You materialize Donner with a few words, the burn presses through your skin but you can bear it.
The Wendigo's new medium-less form is far more upright, humanoid and less primevil. Where there were once grand antlers there are now the fascimile of a fawn, and where there was once a gaunt and furred feature, he now appears to be wearing something of a coat.
He growls, {We will try this your way, human...} Instead of claws and a gaping maw, he draws out an eight foot spear from a tree and bears an unloaded bone and sinew crossbow upon his left arm.

At least he looks the part. “We're hunting things in the sky. Prey upon them where they fall.”

{Very well}, he departs, slipping inbetween this world and the other as a silent shadow moving through the woods.

{These things are weird, viscious, smart!} Nora complains, and something shrieks from high up in the sky, {But I got one to bring another down!}

Something crashes in the brush far ahead, breaking tree branches in the process. Donner makes for it and you can sense something separating from the flying creature and proceeding rapidly through the woods.
{Others are falling!} Nora reports and you relay that to Emilia, whome stands at the ready with an earthen minigun.

“Let it fly” you say and she discharges a flurry of pellets.
>>
>>34336276
You get back to Nora, (What do they look like, what's going on?)

{It's hard to see them, but it looks like the flying things are carrying others. It's weird. The flying things are the screamy ones. Oh, oh! Let's see how loud they can squeal like pigs!}

One of the monsters suddenly surpasses Emilia's flurry, streaks of blood trailing from the damage received yet ignored. In the moonlight you catch short silver hair fluttering from air resistance. In one bound, the thing ricochets itself off a tree and straight for you, others inbound, ignoring their wounds.

With a snap of your fingers, you end the thing mid-flight with solid flame, sending the thing flying back into a tree, twitching violently, rabidly.

Two others, come in, zig-zaging as they're clipped by Emilia's fire. With the three things in close range, she's forced to abandon long range tactic and turn to fight the others.

You sense Donner busy with others out in the words, and these two enemies are coming in left and right for a flank full of piss and vinegar.

Stabilizing yourself, you assume an imitation of what you've seen of “horse stance” and raise your hands, snapping your fingers as you cross them down and proclaiming the spell “Dou Fiend!” Two explosions engulf the rabid clones, sending them crashing back with lethal force and fire lingering upon them.

As order's been restored to the moment, you shake the mage burn from your hands and put on eye on the first one that went down. It starts to leap out, lunging at you like some sort of sad desperate monster, lightning arcing between their fingers, but no magic signature.

You know, if they had faces. If they weren't clones. If they didn't act like rabid dogs to be put down. There might've been some hesitation in the snap of your fingers. “Fiend” And another explosion sends the thing into the ground, still twitching.

Emilia holds out and arm and sends earthen knucklebones into the near-dead. “You've gotten good.”

“You're not near dead or dying.” Holding out a closed fist, you open it slightly, “Pit” To slide the rest of the clone's body in before closing it for a burial up to the head. Wonder if you'd be up for another tragic suicide via interrogation.

She doesn't say anything to that. You realize that you might've hit a nerve there, you'll apologize later.

Another shriek rings out into the woods from the sky, even at a distance you can tell that it's that same fucking sound that could tear apart your ears.
There's a cacophony before they're all abruptly silenced.

(Good job Donner.)

{Wasn't me. Hunting down the furthest one. Move a foot to the left.}

Without thinking, you do as you're told and a bullet whizzes past you. Hair bristles at the back of your neck as you can almost see it, just clipping your ear for a stinging pain that sends you swearing. “What the fuck!?”

{Lucky.}

“Emilia, get close, we've got a sniper!” You shout and she gets herself by your side immediately.

“Wall!” You raise up a barrier of the loamy earth and drop down as a bullet pops a hole right through the soft ground.
Emilia does the same, hunkering low as you tap into the moisture within this earth to freeze it over and reinforce it, you hear the next bullet getting stopped.

“So, we just wait in here for your demon and that other guy... Marcus to kill them?”

“Well, pretty much. Just the waiting game since we don't know where they'll shoot from.” You point at the hole that was made, “That came in a different direction from the first and there were seven enemies that were being flown in.

{One is dead. They are too fresh.}

“We've got at least three enemies left to worry about.”

You hear something strange from above, like the hissing of a balloon that has the slightest hole in it, like a hissing snake.

Something comes in from above and immediately somersaults into a divebomb.

Emilia reacts by driving a foot into the ground, an earthen pike tipped with solid ice spike up to shish-kebab the thing just as it tries to scream.

With a twitch, it dies and it sounds like a lot of air just got released... Blood drips down the pike and you both stare at it with subtle fascination and slight revulsion as dark bloody matter starts to come down in chunks.

“Stuck in a bunker with a dead body looming ten feet above us, great.” You roll you eye and slink down against the wall.

“Is that two then?”
>>
>>34336648
>>34337009

“Nah, probably the last of the fliers. Strange thing though.” The more you bring yourself to look at it, the more it looks like a human. A human with various air vents all over their body. There's a stink in the air., like methane.

What in the hell are they doing at Overwatch?

“Um, excuse me.” You hear a voice from outside. You don't recognize it, but it sounds pretty damn young. “ I'm here to heal the injured. Are there any here?”

“Who the fuck are you?”

“I- I'm here to heal the injured. Are you hurt?” The voice asks again like a goddamned near broken record, “I'm sorry. I hit my head, I'll get better soon though... Oh, there are some that are hurt here. I will apply triage. If you are injured just let me know.”

It seems like an apt response. I don't think anyone even vaguely normal would be acting like this in the situation, making it a damn fine bet that it's been modified.

We can't exactly take it back with us like a pet what with the possibility of it gutting us, and the tracking devices likely implanted into it. And we don't want it to have a chance to heal up its comrades.

So burn it with fire.

“I'm going out to kill that thing.” You inform Emilia.

“Really? With the snipers out there? You'll get shot, just stay in here.”

Your eye watches the wall, the stink on the air getting heavier, “If I don't kill that thing out there it'll get the others back up. You sure you shot the other two dead?”

“Yes.” Emilia shakes her head, “Do what you want though. I'm not going to stop you.”

Finding yourself frowning a little bit, you realize that this attitude is so far from what you're used to from her... Oh well.

With a snap of your fingers, you initiate a fire armor with Fiend. To your surprise, the fire explodes a bit too rapidly and large to control like in your simulations, and you're rapidly consumed by flames, feeling the heat wash over your body in an instant and blowing you back against the wall.

“ASHER!” You can hear Emilia scream for you, she's safe in her armor after all.

Your head rings, the concussive damage you've suffered much worse than the burns. Your head sticks a bit on the hardened ice wall, you peel away to find a bit of blood leaking from your noggin.
“Goddamnit...”

{Summoner? Are you alright? Summoner? I killed another sniper. Why won't you respond?} The surely growl of Donner rings in your consciousness.

{Ohhh, you got a boo-boo. Mr. Marcus killed the rest, only ones left are the one just outside... Should we kill her too?}

“Help! We have an injured!” Emilia howls out to the being outside.

“I am already performing triage, please wait patiently your turn.” An almost robotic, yet young voice calls back.

“It might be critical, hurry!”

“I well perform emergency lifesaving procedures right away.” Within moments a pale figure comes into your darkening vision. A young-looking girl with blood leaking from her head, wetting the platinum blonde hair she and her kin are known for. The strangest part of her appearance may actually be just how long it is, trailing far down past her shoulders and her thighs, they are exceptionally robust. It doesn't look like something that can fight at all.

With light blue eyes, she smiles, “I will begin the operation.” She pulls a strand of hair from her head, talons extending from her fingers, hollow at first and quickly darkening. “Please stand by while Hydra- XIX performs life-saving procedure number one hundred and thirty seven.”

Fiend before Knight rapidly generates solid fire for quick armament.

The reason why it detonated though? Is because the thing that came in from above let loose methane gas.

Methane+ suicide hound zapping it for a boom.

Murder (Summoning)- Create a swarm of crow thoughtforms to assult the enemy. Can also be used for mass scouting though may attract attention
Fang (Earth)- Raise a spike of earth beneath the enemy
Claw (Earth)- Form a spike of earth above the enemy
Bite (Earth)- Similtaniously form spikes above and below the enemy
Devil (Air)-Burst of concentrated air
Sickle (Air)-Generate a blade of concentrated air. Can be used for single, burst, and rapid fire
Swarm (Air)-Force the air around the target to strike them (Blunt force, Sharp blades, Piercing)
Void (Air)- Force the air around the target to recede from them leaving an airless void air them. Can kill or incapacitate with concentration
Snake (Water)-Generate a whip of water
Hydra (Water)-Generate a large mass of water around the user that can be controlled for free flowing attack and defense. Effectiveness proportional to level of Hydrokinesis
Leviathan (Water)-Rapidly convert nearby elements into a massive volume of water aimed at opponent. Control of water beyond simple aim and shoot with additional levels of Hydrokinesis

Pit Swarm (Earth+Air)- Opens a pit beneath the enemy, which quickly fills with air projectiles
Snake Pit (Earth+Water)- Opens a pit beneath the enemy, which quickly fills with water before sealing itself
Void Pit (Earth+Air)- Opens a pit beneath the enemy, which quickly becomes an airless void while closing
Dust Devil (Earth+Air)- Use earth and air the assault from all angles
Dust Hydra (Earth+Water)- Rapidly convert earth into water to envelop enemy in semi solid water, can be used to convert water into earth for a solid prison
Fiend Leviathan (Fire+Water)- Assualt enemy with a large wave of semi solid flaming water
>>
>>34337414
Isn't Methane a fair bit lighter than air? With the corpse above the pit it wouldn't accumulate too much.

>>
>>34337521

>>
>>34337552
Exactly.
>>
>>34337472
>>34337505
Raise a good point.
The clone biology contains a concentrated degree of methane and it was steadily releasing it post-mortem as opposed to all at once.

None of these clones had magic, and Hydra's number suggests that these are very new. and 100% near-magical biology.

>>34337545

>>

>>
>>34337578
Frankenfran actually inspired this new clone version.

>>34337603
>>34337612
It was spiked Mid-divebomb with a pike ~ 10 ft.

I'll mind it for next time, but that's how this encounter's gone.
Asher's getting 2 LIMIT for it.
>>
>>34337649
May as well put them into summoning right off since we have that deal with Nora.
>>
>>34337649
summoning it is then
>>
Ok, so who's up for never leaving the ice rock bunker during a fight ever again and just letting the summons deal with things?
>>
>>34337660
Speaking of Nora, she's the reason why the clones couldn't attack you all at once.
She confused the flyers, Hydra carrier got Soniced and the rest got scattered. The "Hounds" went by instinct and immediately went to fight while the snipers went to look for far enough spots and the fliers which were integral to a firebomb/scream and speed+ electricity combo of the hounds were picked off trying to carry the others.

Formation fucking wrecked.
>>
>>34337688
okay so while we got wrecked by not paying attention, we thoroughly fucked them from the beginning. I guess I can live with that
>>
>>34337688
Our dynamic duo summons are the best. I am hella liking new Donner.
>>
>>34337688

>>
>>34337649
Well its a damn good inspiration.
>>
>>34337688
Donner is way better now, kinda knightly i guess.
Nora is gonna wreck when we can call the real her
really though we need more "Named" summons
>>
And this is why I wanted to use Aero for our armor instead of fire. Shame we don't have either Aero or MF at adept to actually do it.
>>
>>34337728
honestly wouldn't surprise me, as soon as we found out Overwatch made them using cloning I just assumed they'd make more out of strong mages
>>
>>34337772
after summoning, I'd want to go for Water or Air next
>>
>>34337772
We could just use water instead of fire. It's not like we needed to get suited up super fast in this scenario right here, which is the only real advantage the pyro Knight has over the hydro Knight, and there was water around. Pretty sure MF'd water is harder than MF'd fire anyway.

Let's just remember to use water for knight from now on if we have the ability to gather water up.
>>
ability to use solid mana when?
>>
>>34337810
Already. Read the description of the most basic ward in the pastebin.
>>
>>34337828
As weapons when
>>
>>34337803
There were lots of things we could have done if anybody noticed the methane.

>Transmute it into water/dirt with alchemy
>Use aerokinesis to vent it out before doing Knight
>Just summon something to kill the medic instead of trying to armor up and go out there ourself
>Use water for Knight instead of fire
>Other stuff

People just need to remember that Dran loves trap options and to not vote for anything without combing the update for ways it can fuck us over.
>>

>>
>>34337028
>There's a stink in the air., like methane.
Just FYI, methane itself is odorless. They add shit to natural gas so you know that you have a leak.

I like the more streamlined combat system in action. Cantrips make it a lot random than it used to be.
