“Drive, Jockey, DRIVE!”

It was a short sleep and then back into the action for you, the Rookie. Down under the orange morning sky, your Kubelwagen drives, being pursued by Neuroi small ground-types, adapted from local motorcycles into fast recon units for Hive K-2. They are known as Aldrich. Along this dirt road to the mountains, they patrol, and they’ve caught up with you.

But reporting names mean little to you know. You sit in the backseat and open fire at them with your M1919A6 Browning .30 Caliber Machine gun. It’s not your trusty old M2, but it’s quite close and a heck of a lot lighter at least. Rounds spray onto the ground. The Aldrichs, of which there are five, duck, weave, and jump from your bullets. They’re only a few dozen meters away, and they’re absolutely impossible to hit.

Rachel sits on the passenger side door, also giving you supporting fire with her M1928 Thompson. “Come on, Rookie, get ‘em, get ‘em!”

“I’m trying! These little peasants are slippery!” you scream over the gunfire.

One of them fires a small laser, its only armament, at the Kubelwagen. Rachel’s shield deflects it away.

The Jeep Jockey yells, “Gee! Good thing you didn’t bring your Striker Units! They’d only weigh you down!”

“Shut up, Jock!” Rachel is quick to silence him. “Keep driving!”

Your ears twitch. There’s more up ahead. “Lieutenant, there’s trouble up ahead!”

“Ah, shit!” Rachel ducks down into the seat and pulls out the map. “Jockey, where the hell are we!?”

“How the hell should I know!? I’m driving!” he screams. A laser breezes past him.

“Agh… okay…” Rachel tries tracking their position on the fly. “Ah, to hell with it!” She tosses the map at you. It lands on the back of your head, and you immediately rip it from there and glare at her. “Rookie, you read it!”

You roll your ears. Great, an Officer that can’t read maps while under fire. That’s great. You take a look at the map. The Neuroi are directly ahead, but there’s a fork in the road leading in two directions.

Going direct south will lead you into the mountains, the fastest way into the Nest.

Going right will lead you east towards Ostmark territory. You might find help from local resistance forces if there are any.

Of course, you could always turn back, but then again, the Commander might not be happy.

“Well, which way!?” yells the Jeep Jockey.

Honestly, in retrospect we made a huge mistake in going along with this. Rook goes on risky missions when ordered to, and she'll go behind the commander's back when it's safe and necessary, but this is way beyond what she'd normally do.

“South!” You turn back and chop the air with your hand. “Direct south! Keep going straight like this!”

The Jeep Jockey nods, gritting his teeth as another laser nearly slices his arm off. “Okay!”

The road straightens out, becoming less dirt and more asphalt. Good, good, you’re making progress. You can see huge black storm clouds on the horizon, over the mountains. That must be where the Nest is, even a blind man could see it! You’re getting close. But you’re not of the woods yet, far from it.

Suddenly, the road in front of you explodes, revealing a giant Heavy buried in the ground. It flexes its four heavy legs and lowers its body down, adapted from a King Tiger tank. In place of the 88mm gun is a very big disintegrator launcher, and in place of the machine guns are small lasers.

“IT’S A TRAP DOOR!” yells Rachel.

>>=[| Trapdoor Heavy Neuroi – “Kaspar” |]=<<

It fires the cannon. You all duck as it passes right over your head and blasts the pursuing Aldrich Neuroi out of the road. That was lucky. “Go around, go around!” yells Rachel. The Jeep Jockey brings the car off the road, sending everything inside bouncing and bumping. Kaspar roars like a wounded whale, hidden behind static as it turns its turret to face you. It fires its small lasers at you, ventilating the car with hot holes.

The Jeep Jockey suddenly is blasted through the chest with a laser, falling onto the wheel instantly. The horn blares as the car spirals out of control. “Hang on!” screams Rachel.

With the lightest bump, the Kubelwagen is sent into a flip. You meet the ground headfirst.

It hurts. Oh, lord. Mother, father, this hurts. You feel the ground shake as your cheek lies against it. Your body won’t move. You can’t even see all that well. Kaspar is closing in you. Where’s Rachel? Is the Jeep Jockey okay? Oh no, you don’t even know his name. Please, don’t let him die. Not yet.

Your vision is suddenly engulfed by flame. There’s faint yells pounding in your ears. Stay awake. Just stay awake.

You feel your eyes shut. Nope.

Breathing. You hear a very heavy breathing, right over you. You open your eyes to two shiny glasses. It’s a girl, with very thick glasses not unlike Karen’s.

Is she straddling you? Are those her legs?

You blink again. Your vision returns. This girl is sitting on top of you, staring at you.

You squint, your face narrowing in disgust. “Um… what are you doing?”

The girl says, “Treating you.”

“Listen, thank you, but could you get off and tell me where I am?” you ask politely. She smiles at that, then steps off you and stands at your bedside. She wears a uniform of Karlsland, with a white armband with a red cross. She also wears white and blue stripped trousers as well, neat. She adjusts her glasses a bit then swipes back her messy black hair.

“You are in the camp of the Western Ostmark Resistance, nestled deep in the mountains.” She wags her finger. “We are actually only several miles from the Nest, according to the Camp Leader, the closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm!”

You nod. “Ah, I see. Who are you?”

“My name is Leutnant Helga Primozic.” She offers her hand, which is covered by a white glove. You shake it gently. “I work with Captain Kelly’s Joint Fighter Squadron as their medical doctor and their StuG III Striker.” She grins. “Very good to meet you!”

You nod. “Thanks, thanks. Um… there were three of us-“

“Ah, yes, the Corporal and Lieutenant McCawlay. The Corporal is stable, but is unconscious at the moment. Too bad…” She scratches her chin, pouting. “Then again, I’m not sure how well he would’ve taken to me operating on him wearing nothing but my trousers. As for your Lieutenant, she’s outside, only a few scratches.”

You nod. “Okay. Um.” You blink a bit. Wait, what?

“You should be fine to walk now. Yes? Go ahead and take a look around. The Corporal is in the next room if you would like to visit.”

“We saw what happened, you driving down and getting ambushed by Kaspar. That Heavy was giving us trouble in regards to supply, intercepting our convoys and taking down our radio links. Burnie was really excited though, you ever see a Flamethrower Tank Witch? Flamethrowers are surprisingly effective against Neuroi we’ve found, keeps them from regenerating relatively quickly.”

You nod. “Never heard of the idea.”

“Well, Burnie is quite… enthusiastic about it. If you do meet her, do keep your distance.” Primozic is quite blunt with you on that. She’s relatively polite, in that trying to hide weirdness kind of way. She has led you down the hall of a prefabricated building made out of wood and other scrap, and opens a door for you. “The Corporal’s in there. Don’t take too long, okay?”

You nod, then step in to see the Jeep Jockey, lying in bed as a young nurse sits by his bed, reading idly. He turns his head to you, then smiles. “Ah… hey Rook.”

The nurse smiles as she rests her hand on his forehead. “Don’t overexert yourself.” She motions you over, and you walk down and kneel by his bedside.

He nods slowly. “Yeah. Yeah I did. Hehe…” He rests his head back. “Gotta say… for a second there, I thought I was going to die a virgin.” You narrow his eyes at him. What a pervert. “I’m not really good with girls, I think you’re the only one I can manage actual casual conversation with.”

You quirk your brow. “Oh?” You can’t wait to hear this. “Why’s that?”

“Eh…” he shrugs a bit. “Don’t know your name, you don’t know mine. I suppose that gives me a little anon… something.”

You say, “Anonymity.”

“Bless you.” You blink. What?

“Anyway. You might be going home after this, for getting wounded.” You smile at him. “I hear women like men with scars.”

“Ah…” he frowns a bit. “As much as I’d like to, I want to stay here, I’m ndeeded. It’s not that I’m out for glory or anything.” He wheezes a bit. “I just want to help. Like I said, I don’t want to spend the war driving jeeps all day.”

“You’ve done all you can,” you say. “For now, you have to rest.” You place your hand on his. “Just get some rest, alright?” He nods again, then shuts his eyes.

Lieutenant McCawlay steps in. “Oh, Rookie, you’re awake.” Her regular uniform has been tattered a bit, bearing some scratches here and there. She also has a wrap of bandage over her right hand. “How’s the Jockey?”

“I have a name,” he says quietly and jokingly.

“Yeah, no one cares,” says the Lieutenant. “But we’re glad you’re recovering. Rookie, we gotta hash things out.” She picks you up by the shoulder then marches you out of the room. You pass by a few doctors, nurses, and the occasional walking wounded.

“What’s the fuss?” you ask.

“Captain Kelly and her girls were assisting the Ost Resistance here,” she says. “Apparently one of their Witches got got by Roy too, and got taken to the Nest. So… things are a little more complicated now.” She rubs her forehead, sighing heavily.

“Do we have any idea on how to assault the Nest? I mean, now it’s us, a few other Witches, and an entire Resistance Cell I gather. There must be some kind of plan.”

Lieutenant McCawlay is to the point. “No. I haven’t got a fucking idea.” She sighs heavily as you all step out into the cold air. The Resistance camp is barely more than a few prefabricated buildings, with the tanks and vehicles parked underneath a camouflage tarp covered in leaves and branches. Soldiers move to and fro, you can identify people from all over the Ostmark, and even a few Dacians as well. Dacians are tough you hear, Karlslanders quite in love with them.

You frown as you both sit down next to 40M Nimrod AA tank.

“Well, maybe Captain Kelly has an idea,” you say. You blank out though. “Who is she?”

Lieutenant McCawlay purses her lips. “Well…”

“Bugger, bugger, bugger!” Click. “There we go!” A woman with heavy plate armor hefts up a PIAT onto her shoulder. You all stand beside her, watching as she turns around and walks to you. “Ah, so you two are our new little lasses. My name is Captain Bridgette Kelly.” She shakes your hand, nearly throwing you down to the ground as she does. “Britannian Royal Armor, 10th Joint Fighter Squadron.”

Lieutenant McCawlay smiles. “I like your Striker, what is it?”

“Churchill IV AVRE Model,” she says politely. She snaps her finger. “It even comes with a little place to cook my tea!” You grin, hopeful. “Don’t get your hopes up, love, I ran out of tea packets out here days ago. It has been dreadful going without my Orange Pekoe.” She gestures to the three girls out, cleaning their Strikers and chatting with each other.

“That girl over there, that’s Primozic, Doc, you’ve met her.”

“That’s Bernadette Coalhearth, we call her Burnie. She’s our M4A3 Crocodile Witch, very much loves her job. You’ll learn to love her.”

“And lastly, that’s Jamie Edith Beauregard, we call her JEB. She’s our M5 Stuart Witch with the Trenchgun.”

Lieutenant McCawlay laughs. “Quite the squadron, a little small don’t you think?”

“Captain,” you ask. “Do you have any plans of some sort for attacking the nest? Anything? “

Captain Kelly sets her PIAT down and then begins scratching her chin. “Hum… not really no.” Damn it. “I was more of the charge in, blow everything up kind of deal. Roger Nests are not like actual Roger.” Roger was the Britanian equivalent of Roy, a shortening for Neuroi. “There is a core to disrupt, problem is Nests are buried deep into the ground, who knows how long we’d be down there just trying to find it. Your strategic bombing is good at sending them even further, keeping them from deploying more units at least.”

Lieutenant McCawlay says, “Fine. We can deal with that. Maybe you have a spare Striker for us to use or something?”

“Only one.” Captain Kelly raises a finger, stern. “Either of you know how to use a Tank Striker?”

You shrug. “They teach it at the Academy.” Lieutenant McCawlay nods as well.

“Okay, good enough. Our spare Striker happens to be for our kidnapped girl.”

“What is it?” you ask.

Kelly gestures over to it, a pair of legs with a gigantic 17-Pounder Anti-Neuroi Rifle next to it. “It’s Bohater’s Firefly Striker. A bit finicky for scrubs so I’d prefer someone who has experience. Do either of you?” You both shrug. “Ah.”

“Uh… Lieutenant. Perhaps you’d like a go?”

Lieutenant McCawlay walks over, bending over to examine every nook and cranny of it. “So… how does it work?”

“Well unlike the Flight Strikers,” says Captain Kelly. “Tank Strikers focus magic less on flight and speed and more armor and strength. You’re going to feel your shields be a lot stronger, and your attacks are going to pack a whalloping. I tell you, Bohater takes this Firefly, and puts Roger in a right bugger’s muddle she does. Damn shame she ends up getting captured.” She smiles. “I’m sure you’ll be fine if you use it. Just stay behind us and let us do the work. If they see you down there shooting away, they’ll gun for you, the 17-Pounder is nothing to shake a stick at.”

“Alright,” she says. “Who else we have?”

Captain Kelly says, “Approximately fifty soldiers, a Nimrod tank and two Toldis. That’s all they were willing to give us.” She shrugs. “Understandable, they don’t want to risk everything on this raid. I imagine whoever sent you two only sent you two and the Corporal just to gauge the strength rather than actually attack the damn thing.”

“Ah, you lot have good intentions then,” says Captain Kelly. “I’m sure your Commander will understand-“

Rachel says, “Our Commander is a Karlslander.”

“Oh, you lot are fucked then.” Captain Kelly whistles a bit. “You’re going to get whipped and lashed so much you’ll start to enjoy it.” You shudder a bit. You actually wouldn’t mind if it was the Commander but… “Anyway, get some food in you, get some rest. We launch in a few hours.”

You and Lieutenant McCawlay sit together, in the shadow of a Nimrod being cleaned and maintained. The sun starts setting, good, it’ll be a night mission. Hopefully, rumor is that Neuroi aren’t very good at fighting at night, but those are rumors anyway. You both chew on some stale bread and drink coffee that’s also partially made from mud and dirt.

“You know, Rook,” says Lieutenant McCawlay. “Listen.” You look at her, skeptical. “When we get back to Bucholz. I’ll take the blame for this.” You widen your eyes. “I’ll say that I strongarmed you into doing this, that I… essentially I forced you and Jock to come along. This was all my idea anyway.”

> “No it wasn’t, you beat me to it.”

You fume at her. “This was my idea! You just beat me to it, Lieutenant!” You cross your arms. “Jeez.”

“Let me get this straight.” Lieutenant McCawlay smirks. “You were planning an illicit raid on a Neuroi Nest all to free one guy.”

“Maybe,” you say. “I mean… honestly, did you think I wouldn’t tell anyone on myself? I’ll take partial blame for it too. It only seems fair, Lieutenant.”

“You got spunk, kid,” she says. “You don’t deserve someone like me. I mean… honestly, this whole business of rescuing family, it just… talks. I think. I don’t know how to describe it.” She sighs, resting her head on her hand. “You know, back in 1940, during the Blitz, I knew a girl. Name of… Will… Willy? Wilcke? Something of that nature. She headed the 501st until they got disbanded after Warlock.”

You quirk your brow. “Where’s this going?”

“Oh, relax, Rook. I’m telling a story.” She stuffs some bread into your mouth, silencing you. You grumpily chew as she explains. “Anyway, she lost someone very, very, dear to her during the Dunkirk evac. And… she wasn’t exactly the same after that. I dunno. She’s pretty motherly, competent, but…” She shakes her head. “I wouldn’t want to fly with her.”

You take the bread from your mouth. After a moment’s thought, you say, “So… what are you saying?”

Rachel sighs. “War takes something from everyone. People have different ways of dealing with it. I don’t want to see Bucholz become Wilcky… shit I forget her name. Point is, I don’t want her closing herself off like that. I mean, I can barely imagine losing Daisy, I almost lost her during Doolittle and I was nigh-inconsolable.” She leans back on the cold hard steel hull. “Rookie, I’m glad you’re here with me. But at the same time I kind of wish you hadn’t come.”

“Why?”

“Honestly?” Rachel shrugs. “I don’t want you to lose that spark. There’s that spark in your eye I see. It’s… that thing that I don’t see in regular soldiers and some witches. It’s… life.” She and you are quiet for a moment. “Rook, I’d rather you die than lose yourself out there. Seeing you walk and move without any kind of happiness or purpose. That would break my heart.”

You hold your hand over your mouth. “Ohoho~… Lieutenant…”

“Oh, don’t Lieutenant me,” she says sternly. “You know what, forget-“ You place your hand on her shoulder.

“Live or die, Lieutenant. I won’t lose myself, that spark is who I am. Though I would prefer to live.” You sigh, pouting a little at her. “Don’t worry about me, Lieutenant. I will be fine.”

She blinks, then smiles. “Ah… well. Don’t tell no one I said any of this, alright? I don’t want the squadron thinking I’ve gone soft, especially on you.”

You place your finger to your lips, winking. “It’ll be our secret.”

Captain Kelly and her girls pop up from behind the tank, surprising you. “Alright, lassies, it’s time to step off!” You dust yourselves off and stand up. “Lieutenant, to the Striker. Sergeant, you’ll cover her as best you can. Go ahead and pick out one of the weapons on the table.”

You nod, walking over to the nearby table where the weapons are laid out for you. Most of your ammo and weapons were lost when the Kubelwagen flipped, so you’ll have to make do with what the Resistance could scavenge. All you have now is your sidearm and…

> MG 131 Machine Gun

You load and cock the ammunition of the vaunted MG 131, usually used in aircraft as the equivalent to the M2 Browning. It’s much lighter, uses a similar caliber, with a reasonable rate of fire as well. It also came with Armor Piercing Incendiary rounds, perfect for those big targets.

Lieutenant McCawlay stumbles over, hefting the huge 17 Pounder cannon. “Alright, come on, Rookie, get on my back!” She bends down, and you find some footing on the nook of her legs, and hop onto her back. “You’ll cover me. Keep the air boys off me and I’ll keep the ground ones down, got it?”

“Got it!” You sit on her shoulders, locking your legs tight as she strides forward. You are now her coaxial machine gun.

Night has fallen. The Nest itself glows with green energy, cackling like lightning from beneath the miasma of the clouds. All of you settle into a little clearing, hiding behind some rocks as Captain Kelly hashes things out. “Alright. Here’s the word.” She whispers as she starts assigning places. “Regulars will take the road to Innsbruck, with Jeb and Doc covering them. They’ll be our diversion. Me, Burnie, and the two Witches here will go around and punch a hole in the wall. Hopefully, if we’re lucky, we’ll make a hole big enough for ten men at a time.”

“Wait,” you say. “How many people are being held in there?”

Lieutenant McCawlay nods. “Yeah. We only learnt about this a day ago.”

Captain Kelly says, “They could be holding as many as three thousand prisoners in there. Some women and children, most of them Karlslanders and Ostmark soldiers. Once that’s done, Lieutenant Antonescu will bring in trucks, start ferrying out as many prisoners as we can. All we have to do is cover them until they reach safety. Is that clear?” You all nod. “Good, good. A lot of people are counting on us, so let’s get this done right.” She hefts her PIAT up and gestures for Burnie and you two to come along.

Burnie cackles, her fiery red hair messed up beneath her M1 Helmet. “Hehe… can’t wait to burn me some Roy!” Her fangs grind up against each other. That’s a crocodile familiar with spats and a bit of Liberion fervor for you.

“Put that pilot light out,” says Captain Kelly. Burnie pouts as she licks her fingers and puts the pilot light of her flamethrower out.

You look down, with Lieutenant McCawlay’s head between your thighs. “Lieutenant, are you okay down there?”

She says, “You know, Rookie. Your legs are amazing!” She smiles up at you. “No joke, I bet Betty Grable would be jealous.”

You grin. “Ohoho~, well… it is tough keeping such shapely appendages so beautifully shaven and tight. But it is easily maintained by a rigorous exercise schedule!” You want to believe the best part of you isn’t your chest or your rear, it is the one thing you use many times, your legs.

Captain Kelly motions you all to get down. You hop off the Lieutenant’s shoulders then cling to her back as you all crouch down. There’s flashes and explosions booming in the distance. “It’s started,” says Captain Kelly.

There’s a booming roar as a Large type flies over you, as does another one. You ask, “Are Jeb and Doc going to be okay?”

“They’re veterans,” says Captain Kelly. “They know what they’re doing.”

“Can we give them the heat yet!?” asks Burnie.

“Not yet.” Captain Kelly places her hand on the end of the flamethrower barrel and gently points it downwards. Burnie grumbles, looking downwards in disappointment. “Alright, come on, while they’re distracted.”

You all stand and quickly begin a rush. The Witches switch from Walker Mode, to Tread Mode. The Treads slink from the legs, then wind up on the feet and begin whirring to life as you start forward in at amazing speed. Dust clouds are kicked up in your wake, but since it’s so dark, Neuroi might mistake it as their own miasma clouds.

You start down the mountain, rushing at the Nest, a huge orb half buried into the ground, taking nearly the entire town of Innsbruck. “Cover your ears!” yells Captain Kelly as she raises her PIAT. It glows blue with magical energy, and a magic crosshair hovers over her eye as she sights in.

Then poof, the dustbin flies.

And bang, a huge hole is shattered right into the Nest. You all roll in to see Large-types, hanging from the ceiling, completely inert, with Heavies resting beneath them on racks. Phew, they’re just sleeping for now.

“What the hell was that?” You all look down. You light up a flashlight and look down to see hundreds of men, soldiers caged in the floor beneath forcefields and bars, like being stuffed into cans.

“We’re here to rescue you!” says Lieutenant McCawlay. The men smile, grin, then begin cheering and shouting. “Alright, we need to find some way to break these barriers and quick. Before these Neuroi wake up and realize what’s going on.”

You hop off Rachel and kneel down on the floor. You close your eyes. All the active Neuroi are outside, and probably don’t know about the breach just yet. You’re quite surprised that there doesn’t seem to be any kind of alarm system, but you suppose the Large-types nestled inside the nest ARE the alarm system.

You try to grab the bars, only from them to shock you.

You know what. You’ve had enough of this. You grab the bars, again. You feel the energy surge through your every nerve. You focus down, trying to hold in your scream as the electricity sends your vision near black.

“Rookie!” yells the Lieutenant. “What are you-“

You answer that with tearing the bars open, big enough for them to crawl on out. The forcefield shuts down as well.

“Huh.” Captain Kelly smiles at that. “Nice job!”

You pant, shivering a bit, twitching. “H-How’s my hair?”

Lieutenant McCawlay, in her most polite way, says, “Fucked up.” You feel at it. Ah, that’s gonna take forever to fix! At least, it’ll take Daphne forever to fix!

You start opening up more holes in the floor as the Neuroi continue to hang overhead. More battle noises outside indicate the distraction is still a go. Captain Kelly says, “We’ve got about ten minutes to keep this going.”

Soldiers, men, women, and children start climbing out. They crowd up as Lieutenant McCawlay starts giving them instructions. Captain Kelly stops one of them. “Hey, we’re looking for a witch by the name of Bohater and… what was his name?”

You say, “Johannes Bucholz.”

The soldier says, “Yeah, Bucholz, big guy?” You nod, hopeful. He shakes his head. “They send all the witches and the big guys downstairs, nobody ever comes back.”

Captain Kelly’s radio cackles. “Captain! It’s Jeb! Hive O-7 is bringing reinforcements from the southeast!”

“Captain. Johannes Bucholz is the reason me and Lieutenant McCawlay are here. Bohater is the reason you’re here too. We can’t leave without them.”

Captain Kelly is already dropping down into the floor. “Don’t need to say that to me you little gobshite! Come on!” Burnie turns and comes over. “No, no! Burnie, it’s time for you to burn!”

“YES!” She bounces in place. “FINALLY! I’ll cover your back!” She sets off her pilot light. “IT’S TIME TO BURN, BURN, BUUUUUURRRRNN! AHAHAHAHA!” The soldiers she’s covering all run from her, rather than from the Neuroi that have imprisoned them. She starts setting fire to the Nest.

You and Lieutenant McCawlay drop down with Captain Kelly. You wander about in the darkness, where nothing sits but cots, improvised campfires, and toiletries. These men have suffered quite a bit down here. Finally, you find a hole and drop down, coming into a hexagonal corridor, wide enough for you three to fit. You all run begin running.

Suddenly, a ceiling panel busts down, nearly crushing you three. A giant centipede type creature appears, brandishing its sharp limbs at you, with a single red eye blinding you three and covering the hall in a faint red glow.

You scream, “Go! Get out of here! I’ll cover you!’

Lieutenant McCawlay says, “You be right behind us!” They start down the opposite way, running.

Oh boy, you just left yourself alone with a small type in a very tight corridor. This isn’t going to be fun. It swings at you, tearing your uniform up as you slam on the wall. It pounces on you again. You respond with a powered up punch right through its shell. It screeches, flexing and flapping about as it hangs on your arm. You finally shake it off and throw it to the ground. It screeches further as you furiously stomp on it.

It dissipates into white mist on the first stomp.

“Phew.” You wipe your forehead and pick up your MG 131. You look back and start in the direction that Rachel and Kelly ran down. It’s dark, claustrophobic, and the only lighting comes from the red little panels on the ceiling.

“Rookie!” Lieutenant McCawlay leads you into a room, where a woman in Orussian Uniform with markings of the 1st Polanian Armored Division on her helmet lies on a bed. “We found Bohater.” Captain Kelly takes her up into her arms, and Bohater quickly hugs in, quiet.

“What about Bucholz?” you say.

“He’s around here somewhere.” Captain Kelly says. “I have to bring Bohater topside. We’re running out of time!”

Lieutenant McCawlay nods. “Rookie, you go up with her. I’ll find that boy if it kills me.”

“I came this far, Lieutenant. I’m going with you.”

Lieutenant McCawlay squints at you. “You’ve done enough, Rook.”

“Not yet,” you say. “I’m with you to the end.” All Lieutenant Rachel McCawlay do is smile and pat you on the head. “Come on!” you say.

“Right, follow me.” You all run out of the room and down the dark halls of the Nest. The halls shake and rumble with the sounds of battle above you. You keep on running and running, time is becoming a valuable asset. Minutes have to be stretched into hours now. “We have to keep moving, Rookie! We’re might be out of an exit if we don’t hurry!”

Damn it. “Damn it!”

You come up to a large room. You bash down the door and run in. There, on the table, lies a shirtless man. Above him is a great big screen, which covers him in a sickly green glow. You and Rachel walk over. “Bucholz? Johannes?”

He opens his eyes, revealing his bright blue eyes. He sits up, shaking his head. “Where am I!?” he yells.

… whoa his abs are… whoa. Um. Wow. His jaw is so square and straight.

Rachel blushes a little, staring at his chest while he looks around confusedly. “Y-you… you uh… you-…” She quickly takes a gentle touch of his chest, then pulls back immediately. “You’re in a Neuroi Nest. You’re Johannes Bucholz?” He nods violently. “We’re here to rescue you.”

He nods, rubbing his eyes. “Agh… fine, okay. Come on, give me a gun then.”

You hand him your revolver. “Ah, a firearm!” He quickly cocks it. “Excellent! A fine firearm, little one!” He ruffles at your hair, laughing. You blush a bit. STOP THAT DAMN IT, YOU ARE A PROPER LADY AND YOU WILL BE TREATED AS SUCH.

“Come on!” yells McCawlay, trying to avert her eyes away from Bucholz’s amazing muscles. “Let’s go, go, go!” She leads you all on through the corridor. Suddenly, a panel falls from the ceiling, then another, and another. “The place is falling apart!”

You run down to the hall you jumped down from, which suddenly collapses in on itself and blocks your path. “Agh, damn it!” you yell. “Come on! This way!” You lead the two of them on, keeping your shield up to shield them from rubble. You break out into a great big hall, large enough for dozens of Large-types. The ceiling breaks open, revealing the open sky.

“There!”

Your ear twitches. You look up to see a great black dot dropping down, and it suddenly lands down on the catwalk in front of you. It rises up, even bigger than Johannes Bucholz. It unfolds out, like a great big spider creature, and unfolds a great stinger tail. It’s a Hive O-7 Neuroi, and not just any Neuroi.

Though, I wonder. As much as a few of us would like it, would Schteel be okay with taking it in that direction.

> Beat a hasty retreat

Yeah, nope. “Back!” you yell. Rachel raises her 17 Pounder. The shot booms, nearly deafening you all. The smoke obscures Menelaus, the scourge of the Ostmark. It suddenly pounces at you all, knocking you all away. It crawls on top of you, pinning you down and forcing your gun out of your hands. The stinger is raised above you, and starts spinning like a drill. It screeches and beeps, spinning its red balls of light down to look down into your eyes.

“Rookie!” the Lieutenant screams.

Oh. So this is how you die. Menelaus the Impaler. At least you’ll go down in a blaze of glory.

Suddenly, Menelaus is forced away by a barrage of 13mm bullets. Bucholz roars a primal warcry as he charges Menelaus, firing away with your MG 131 like it was a submachine gun. “Go! Get up!” Rachel helps you up quickly. You look up. The ceiling is only a few meters up, you just need a boost. Bucholz empties the entire magazine of the gun, then runs back while Menelaus recovers from the barrage.

“Johannes! You first!” Rachel boosts him up and tosses him up to the edge. You turn over and then clamp your hands together. “Rookie, no, you-“

“Go!” you yell. She hesitates. “LIEUTENANT!” She closes her eyes, then steps onto your hands jumps for the edge. Johannes and Rachel recover and reach down for you.

“Rookie! ROOKIE!” You jump up for their hand. Menelaus roars it pounces at you.

“ROOKIE!”

That's it for Strike Witches of Gallia Quest. Should be back tomorrow on Wednesday and Thursday as usual.

Unfortunately, due to other commitments, I can't run LGA this weekend, there's a lot for me to do. I'll see about getting it done the following weekend, or perhaps running a special thread of something if I find the time to. Stay tuned.

SCHTEEEEL!

"Tomorrow on Wednesday and Thursday?"

So, Rookie wakes up being operated on by Neuroi to become Magical Neuroi Girl Rookie?
>>
>>34308766
Please no enemy brainwashing. I like Rookie as is.
>>
>>34308261
See >>34308227
Yoshika was a witch, and not a typical one either, and she still got discharged.
>>
>>34308787
It could be interesting though.

However, is there a Neuroi Daphne to do her hair?
>>
>>34308791
Though, that was because she was spilling the beans on some stuff Leigh-Mallory didn't want getting out.
>>
>>34308808
There had better be, our hair is in a bad state.
>>
>>34308787
Maybe a one or two thread thing? Then the commander and/or Daphne break her out of it.

Graf is wounded and sent to the rear to recuperate. Nothing of value was lost.
>>
I like this thing about the Hives being different entities, using separate tactics and units and having special characters.
>>
>>34308787
Nah, no brainwashing.
I'm picturing that they only manage to make Rookie a Neuroi Girl in body before she manages to make an escape. What happens after is up to us.
>>
>>34308877
It would be more interesting if they persuaded her to join them.
>>
>>34308582
Sooooooooo we dead?
>>
>>34308875
It's a cool idea that's sort of hinted at in the series, and I love Schteels take on it.
>>
>>34308890
Not sure how: one of the big problems the Neuroi faced was being completely unable to communicate with humans. The best they could do was Best Girl and that still didn't quite work.
>>
>>34308862
Please do not bully the Graf.

Okay, so she's even grating on me now with the flip flopping, and my old interpretation that made her more interesting/defensible doesn't hold anymore because of it, but still.
>>
>>34308877
I'd be amused if they somehow did turn her, and convert her hair into an actual drill type weapon live on the back of the impaler here.
>>
>Neuroi spy
It happened in the LNs. Alas, that part is not translated.

>>34308916
>The best they could do was Best Girl and that still didn't quite work.
It was close to working, but both attempts at human-Neuroi communication in the series were interrupted. Once by the Warlock, the other by other Neuroi.
But Best Girl DID manage to communicate with Yoshika for a while.
>>
>>34308963
>>34308890

No ruining Rookie dammit.
>>
>>34308963
Amusing, but kinda impractical.

Also what the fuck capcha, a picture of a basket and nothing else?
>>
>>34309030
Are you saying you don't want Rookie to become a Neuroi Girl? Where's your sense of adventure?

Oh, I forgot about the Neuroi spy. Was she brainwashed, or was she a full on Neuroi thing? Also, I'm a bit sad they never tried any more spy shenanigans in season two, aside from the one defeated by Minna's secret weapon.

>>34309086
No spats and her familiar is a crocodile, but looks good.
>>
>>34309160
Must've missed that part, read on my phone mostly.

We can make an honest man out of him!

>>34309176
You are. I never was and I doubt these shenanigans will help our chances.
>>
AVRE witch is best witch, though crocodile witch is pretty good too.
>>
>>34309192
>No spats and her familiar is a crocodile, but looks good.

The tail is there but it's hard to see, and the boots have spats.
>>
>>34309220
No trouser spats
>>
>>34309220
> you used the historically correct spats instead of the bicycle spats.

That's actually damn neat of you. Not many people know those bootwraps are called spats.

I wonder how it went from that to that.
>>
>>34309220
I suspect you might be thinking of a different kind of spats.
>>
>>34309192
A bit of both.

Also, that bug Neuroi was more of an experiment if a Neuroi with a remote, separate core could work than an actual spy.
Minna's ass proved that experiment a failure.

>>34309201
Nah, let's just rescue him, show him to the Commander and send him on his merry way. We're still after the Commander.
>>
>>34309220
I'm going to be honest, the tail looks like a ragged dog's tail, not a croc tail. As for the spats...

... uh... well then. You're not WRONG. Not exactly the spats I think German were referring to, but... okay. Hm.
>>
>>34309275
>That's actually damn neat of you. Not many people know those bootwraps are called spats.
>I wonder how it went from that to that.

I am not a smart man.
>>
>>34309286
We will never win the commander. So we either go for Daphne or go for the next best thing to be the commander's family, which is to marry his hunk.
>>
>>34309275
>>I wonder how it went from that to that.
Japan. Thank god they did.
>>
>>34309299
Your heart was in the right place and I can't ask more of that. Though, if you need clarification for your sketches, just feel free to ask.
>>
>>34309304
Would not be shocked if he has already little-sister-zoned pretty much every witch as a result of the commander.
>>
>>34309073
>Are you saying you don't want Rookie to become a Neuroi Girl? Where's your sense of adventure?

Powergaming, you are the worst.
>>
>>34309304
I'm going to be honest? I don't know why you want to go for him, since all we've seen of him is his abs and his admittedly badass attack on the Neuroi Ace. We haven't even had a conversation with him.
>>
>>34309337
So he has a gaggle of tiny little sisters running around in his older little sister's troop?
>>
>>34309304
Why? Its literally the first time we meet him.

Leave him for the LT.
>>
>>34309339
How is that powergaming?
>>
>>34309073
It's not a lack of adventure, it's just good taste.
High quality human butt > alien crime against humanity and nature
>>
>>34309299
I'm not mad, just disappoint I didn't get my sweet alligator ass spats.
>>
>>34309304
I for one wouldn't mind getting to know the other witches better.
It's Daphne, the Commander or Graf. Rarely do we interact with the rest of the 509th.
>>
>>34309382
I think alligator leg spats are just fine.

>>34309377
I think they'd be enhancing what they need enhanced, not replacing what's already good.
>>
>>34309360
Sounds about right, yup.
>>
>>34309377
Perhaps all the Neuroi do will be grafting Neuroi stuff here and there.
Think Borg.
>>
>>34309390
Rachel is surprisingly a bro.
>>
>>34309360
That is an adorable mental image, and yes, I wouldn't be surprised if that's how he thinks of them.
>>
>>34309390
The LTs we already have a good feel for, though this adventure has shown a slightly different light on Rachel, and Vera is always asleep. Carla and Karen, we did try to see more in Monaco but then fucking Graf wouldn't leave Rookie alone. And still won't.
>>
>>34309371
>>34309351
Just having fun. I am not being serious here.
>>
>>34309400
>>34309427
But anon, Rookie's butt and drill increase drag in flight and serve no practical purpose. They'd be the first things to go.
>>
>>34309427
>Neuroi Borg
I vote we call them Norg

But the Neuroi are more than aware of the need to be able to infiltrate and use physical assets to distract enemies!
