Ohhhhhhhhh. Sick burn. Not your best, really, but it’s ten’o’clock. That’s nearly morning. Layla is lucky she even merits your slightest attention.

While Layla takes a trip down to the burn ward, you take a moment to just chill. You breathe in slowly, tasting the air. Fresh, cold, clear. Sometimes you forget that, in a way, the scar is one of the cleanest places in NY – nobody around to spew litter everywhere, no cars, very few hungry hungry hobos pissing and vomiting everywhere (you seem hellbent on changing that last bit, intentionally or not). It’s almost like the rest of the world, the world outside the mirrored grey of the city, is slowly moving to reclaim it.

He considers this carefully. Eventually, his conclusion is that he feels “Pretty good.”

“Hey, Laura!” You call out, hoping for your voice to carry. Her scent is relatively fresh, so she can’t be too far. When there’s no immediate response, you pull yourself up, heading toward the stairs – though, not before a quick “don’t go anywhere” to your victi– companions.

Following her trail, you find her sitting nearby, beside a small outcropping of snow-glazed debris. She’s not alone. Noriko huddles down against the cold beside her, shivering slightly in her honestly kinda inappropriate jacket. Leaning in perilously close to Laura’s face, another girl sits nearby – you soon recognize her as the fairy-looking chick rolling around with Paige and her weirdo friends. She’s talking fast, a big, floppy smile on her face, though you can’t tell what she’s saying at this distance and you’re not sharpening your ears up just to eavesdrop on friends.

As you trudge closer, she seems to notice you, glancing up over Laura’s shoulder. A brief panic pass through her eyes (her incredibly creepy, pitch black eyes) and she vanishes in a blast of psychedelic colours, leaving behind her the faint aroma of saffron and candy-canes.

Weird.

Laura turns to you, watching your approach in silence. Noriko waves.

“Hey-up!”
