Sorry about the delay!
Let's get started post-haste!

Sayaka is like a butt-ghost.
She takes over every butt she touches.
Her lewd cannot be quenched until the last butt standing has been squeezed.

Remember, no touchin'

The sound of your sword being jammed into its scabbard- the rasp of steel on wood and leather, followed by the CLACK of the crossguard smacking against the end of the sheath- echoes out into the otherwise silent library, even as you toss your phone onto a table and fasten your cape about your neck.

“Kyouko,” you say, not even bothering to raise your voice, “gather up your shit. Mami's in trouble.”

There's a frantic shuffling, banging, and clanking as Kyouko gathers up her things. “Academy City, right? I won't be able to gather many natural components there...”

You nod. Kyouko's a bit disorganized, but she's a right proper wizard when it comes right down to it- unless you're Mami, in which case she's a 'Magical Girl'.

You shake your head and give yourself a quick once-over to check that you're ready. Mami seems to think you're a 'magical girl,' too, for whatever reason.

Though, to be fair, Kyouko thinks the same thing.

You still don't have the heart to tell her the truth.

You love her, after all.

You are 'Sayaka Miki,' or so people seem to think, and you're a magical construct created (apparently accidentally) by none other than the red-headed, always-hungry wizard called Kyouko Sakura.

More specifically, you're what's called an 'Eidolon'.

And Kyouko doesn't seem to have any idea of the fact. Not that anyone else does, mind. All you know is that the /real/ Sayaka Miki went missing a few years back, and you showed up a couple of months after, with what you can only assume are either her memories, or some very high-quality manufactured ones.

To be honest, you didn't notice until about a year and a half ago, and you've only been sure of it for a year or so, now.

Thing is, creating an Eidolon isn't an easy thing. It's a long and deliberate process, and there's no way Kyouko could've done it by accident.

Which means that she's either pretending not to remember, has repressed whatever memories related to the original's disappearance and your creation she might have, or has had her memory altered to omit those things.

You sigh. You really don't like any of those possibilities.

The worst one, though, would be:
>If Kyouko is pretending not to remember
>If Kyouko has repressed memories
>If Kyouko's memory has been altered
>>
>>34283217
Nope. I just saw someone playing MW2 and realized that I NEEDED to make a joke about it.

And I thought just plain old "REMEMBER, NO TOUCHIN'" might not be obvious enough, reference-wise.

… Yeah. Any of those would suck big time, but the thought that Kyouko's lying to you- and maybe even to herself, too...

You just can't bear it. You can't even imagine /why/ she'd do something like that in the first place!
What purpose would it serve?

You take a deep breath, then exhale slowly.

There's no reason to think Kyouko's lying to you about anything. It's just a possibility. A worst-case scenario.

Your thoughts are interrupted by Kyouko herself calling out to you. “Hey, Sayaka, have you seen the gum arabic anywhere?”

You roll your eyes. She's so unorganized! “It's with the other tree-related stuff!”

“Oh, right! Duh. Thanks!”

Gum arabic... for an invisibility spell?

You suppose that could work, but you wouldn't be surprised if Academy City could see right through that sort of thing.

Kyouko might know more about it than you, but it can't hurt to ask, right? How stupid would you feel if you went there and it turned out your concerns weren't quite as un-founded as you'd like to think?

You can't go making any mistakes, you've heard some crazy shit about this place, and those science-y fuckers get really touchy when magic's involved.

“You sure an invisibility spell's gonna work against science and technology and all that bullshit?”

Kyouko pokes her head around a shelf and peers at you.

“Invisibility? Oh, I see where you could get that from, with the gum arabic an' all. I was thinking a disguise spell, though!” She holds out a scroll with a circle of familiar-looking runes scrawled on it, and you nod appreciatively.

That's some pretty god thinking, really. Cameras and such can't see through your stealth if you're not using any! And your appearances being different means they won't be able to recognize you from any sort of database or anything.

“Oh, alright. Good idea... but what the hell do you need the gum arabic for?”

She laughs. “Mami uses it for some of the sweets she makes, remember? It's super-expensive in Academy City -I guess they don't have acacia trees or something- so I thought it'd be nice to bring her some, yanno?”

You grin. “Yeah, that'd be really nice. Good thinking, Kyouko.”

… She's not lying to you. She can't be.

That can only mean one of two things:
One: Whatever happened with the 'real' Sayaka Miki was so bad that she subconsciously blocked it out
Two: Someone purposefully erased her memories of the 'real' Sayaka Miki

There's nothing else it could mean, is there?

How about this: Mami really did call for backup, but the one Sayaka and Kyouko got was actually a duplicate set up as part of a trap by Necessarius and/or the Catholic Church (perhaps a joint operation?) to neutralize rogue magicians. Kyouko was a time traveler who used a time machine to jump to a universe where Sayaka Miki has always existed as an Eidolon, killed her alternate self in the crib, and unwound her history until she became a baby, ready to live out a new life. One of the baby toys in her parents' attic is a cloaked time machine, waiting to respond to her DNA signature.

Wait, what if you really are Sayaka Miki?

If that's so, then where'd you go?

You shake your head.

You need to stop thinking about this.
You should be getting ready!

What about the Fae? They kidnap children, right? Maybe the real Sayaka was taken by the Fae?

Maybe you're the real Sayaka, and YOU were taken by the Fae!

What about Mami's call? Could it have been a fake? What if the trouble she's in is more urgent than she felt it was safe to let on?

The Church took down Kyouko's dad, maybe they want to finish the job?

“Hey, Sayaka?”

“Yeah?”

“Could you find a book for me?”

… “Yeah, sure. What am I lookin' for?”

You can't afford to think like this right now.

You are Mato Tsuruya, it's the morning of July 24th, and you're feeling pretty comfy right now, holding Akari in your arms the way you are.

She's so peaceful and warm and cuddly and...

You grin and squeeze her a little tighter against yourself. She mumbles softly in her sleep and presses her face into your neck.

You and Akari got home last night without incident, and proceeded to collapse onto her bed the moment you were within collapsing distance.

… Apparently Akari woke up at some point, because she's wearing pajamas, and you're-

Oh.

Oh-ho-ho.

You're in your underwear.

Akari took your clothes off.

You... maybe you should sing along. Just a little... “... Didn't mean to make you cry...”

Apparently, Akari accepts your input, because she continues, “If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,”

“Carry on, carry on, 'cause nothing really matters...”

She's not murmuring anymore, but full-on singing, “Too late, my time has come-”

“Sent shivers down my spine-”

“Body's achin' all the time,”

“Goodbye, everybody-” you start, but Akari finishes with the “I've got to go!” before you can.

“Gotta leave you all behind-”

“-I'd never-”

Were you in a more suave and un-panicked mood, you might've said something like 'finish this line at all' or 'say stuff like this again'.

But you're not in that sort of state of mind.

It's not possible for you to be in that state of mind when Akari's being this... whatever she's being right now.

It's all one smooth motion- gently displacing Akari's face from your neck with one hand, catching a glimpse of her open and alert purple eyes for a fraction of a second before quieting her by muffling her mouth with yours- and, mission accomplished! She's too busy kissing to finish the line!

Also, she's kissing you!

She makes a soft “Nnn” sound and wraps her legs around yours.

… She's actually being pretty aggressive, here.

Uh, oh geez.

She tastes nice. Sweet, you think. She's getting warmer, too.

This is hot, heh.

She pulls away after what seems simultaneously like a lifetime and a split-second- so long, but too short- and looks into your eyes.

Wisps of steam are simmering out of the corners of her beautiful, sad, eyes.

If there was any doubt in your mind before, it's gone now.

Akari killed that man.

“He... he hurt you, Mato...” She sniffles. “I... I didn't... I was so... /angry/... I just couldn't stop myself. He hurt you, and he... he needed to die.”

Now, to be fair, she didn't murder the guy.
He attacked two officers of the law with clear intent to do them serious harm.
IRL, with real people and cops, this might cause some stupid controversy until it came out that 'oh, the criminal was reaching into his jacket for something after the officers shouted at him to freeze five times, and they shot him'.
As far as I'm concerned, Akari was perfectly justified in 'opening fire', as it were. You don't fuck around when an officer is holding you at gunpoint/fingerpoint and NOT get shot, that's just not how it works.

Still, though, Mato doesn't really know what happened. I like how you guys stayed in character instead of either vilifying her or telling her that she did nothing wrong.

You frown.

Should you be blunt, or should you approach the matter with a bit more... tact?

You bite your lip. Tact... tact is good.

A proper lady is tactful.

Now, how to begin-

“Tomoe-san,” Akane says, interrupting your thoughts before you can even formulate them, “are you about to tell us that Akari-chan was the one who blew that huge crater in the Strange last night?”

You pause, then nod. “That's part of it, yes...” you take a deep breath. “The more important part is that she almost certainly killed a man in the process.”

Miku looks up from her batter and grimaces. “Shit.”

Akane merely sighs. “I should've expected as much. She's too powerful, now, and not used to the amount of power she's got. Even if she was calm, she'd have problems taking someone down non-lethally, I think.”

You nod. That sounds about right. “Mato-chan was unconscious at the time, and Akari-chan was out cold when she woke up. From what Mato-chan told me, it sounds like whoever it was attacked them and injured her enough that Akari-chan flew into a rage and turned him into nothing more than a bad memory.”

Miku scratches her chin. “And you think it's because Akari-chan couldn't take the guy down non-lethally...?” She nods after a moment or two. “I think I can work with that...” She glances over at Akane and winks. “Can you take over for me here, Akane-chan? I've got an idea.”

Miku rushes out of the room, and Akane takes her place. “I don't suppose Akari left any evidence or anything, did she?”

“No. There wasn't anything left of him.”

“Well, that's something, isn't it?”

… Yes, you suppose it is.

You hurry into your workshop, your idea already formulating in your mind. You are Miku Tsuruya, a cyborg-idol-technopath-person, and you've got shit to invent!

How did you manage to not think of this earlier?

Akari needs a weapon! Something that can hit things she can't with her powers, and something she can reliably deliver less-than-lethal force with! Something she can charge with her powers and do anything from mild irritation to small-scale demolitions with!

Hmm...

What should you use as the base? The autorevolver is the most logical choice, but you could probably fabricate something rifle-grip and entirely-custom if you wanted to...

If you do the autorevolver or another weapon you've already got, you can make the modifications necessary in no-time flat, then get to work fabricating the necessary ammunition to put those modifications to use.

If you make something custom, it'll take longer and be more difficult, and you'll only be able to do something the size of a small rifle or bigger, but you won't have to make ammunition or anything for it.

You could also use one of those semi-automatic pistols you've got lying around, though she wouldn't be able to tell what she was about to fire as easily... which kinda defeats the purpose of the whole exercise, really.

… Akane-chan uses a shotgun, and you've got an old-ish lever-action one lying around here somewhere, just waiting to be made into something great...
>>
>>34289345
>shotgun
Oh fuck yes! Flaming shotgun here we come!
>>
Well, you've gotta come to a decision on this- what'll you use as the base of this masterful weapon?
>Use the autorevolver. [No particular drawbacks, but no huge benefits, either. Looks badass.]
>Fabricate a rifle-grip platform. [Big and bulky, but you can make it work with charge packs instead of ammunition]
>Use a semi-auto pistol. [Less powerful than revolver, and the rounds inside aren't visible, meaning you can't see what level of charge they're at- bigger magazine size, though. Not recommended.]
>Use the shotgun. [More difficult to conceal and the internal loading mechanism means charge levels won't be visible, but it's easy to use and maintain and, like most shotguns, able to fire a large variety of different shells.]
>>

Disregard stealth, acquire firepower.
>>
>>34289417
I don't think a shotgun is going to help much, honestly. If someone isn't scared of the prospect of attacking a walking miniature nuke, they aren't going to be deterred by a shotgun.

Ordinary thugs probably won't know that we're a level 4 and this way we can scare them without having to light up.
>>
>>34289417
It's not a big gun, though. The autorevolver's the most intimidating one of the bunch. The lever-action shotty's relatively small, and the rifle looks rather derpy. Semi-auto pistols are largely indifferent.

The difference in firepower is also minimal, with the exception of the semi-automatics, which are rather piddly in comparison to the .357 and 12 gauge barrels.

Shame the shotgun is a derper. AC shotguns are pretty nice.
>>
>>34289539
Not really. The shotgun's too big for you to be able to carry it around without attracting undue attention, even cut-down. It's versatile and easy to use, but nothing particularly special. The autorevolver's not too difficult to use, either, and it's a handgun- meaning it's significantly more concealable, and it's got plenty of punch, in addition to allowing you to see how charged the rounds you've got loaded are.

You look around for the shotgun for a moment or two before deciding it's not worth the trouble- it wouldn't really be any better than the autorevolver, after all, so why even bother?

It doesn't really seem all that fair to you, when you think about it. It's almost like there's some sort of deity out there that just didn't balance things very well right there.

You shrug, brushing those thoughts aside and focusing on your work. You retrieve the weapon of choice, move it over to your primary workspace, and get to work.

Hmm.

It doesn't take you long to run into another dilemma:
If you want the thing to still be able to fire good old-fashioned bullets, you'll need to make single-use special ammunition for it; if you want to replace the barrel and use re-usable ammunition, it won't be able to use regular bullets.

>Make minimal barrel modifications, meaning it will be able to fire any rounds of the appropriate size... but only once per round
>Make extensive barrel modifications, meaning it'll only be able to use custom ammo... but each round can be used over and over again, (as long as it's charged before firing, naturally)

You decide that rechargeable ammo is better, and rationalize that highly-charged rounds would be more powerful (and less stressful on the wrists) than good ol' .357 magnum.

The conversion is rather expedient, and you're done with the barrel before you know it.

The next order of business is the ammunition-related stuff.

If you make the cylinder removable (and fabricate some more of them), you could speed up the reloading process significantly by permanently fixing the six rounds in place and making it so that heating the cylinder would charge all six shots equally. However, it'd also make charging take longer, require carrying around cylinders instead of individual rounds, and make it impossible to have different levels of charge available without reloading.

A non-detachable cylinder means each round has to be inserted (and charged) individually. However, it also mitigates charging time (charging each round directly is far more efficient), allows for rounds of varying levels of charge to be in the same cylinder (and therefore more immediately available), and makes it possible to alter the charge of individual rounds directly without opening the cylinder (though it's rather slow and inefficient to do it this way- Akari would be best served charging rounds by holding them in a clenched fist and heating them from all directions).

Decisions, decisions.

Removable cylinders take significantly longer to charge, though, so you'll only get however-many shots in a fight, and you'd better hope you don't need a higher-powered shot if you're using stun- or vice versa.
>>
>>34290373
Can't we just have a cylinder of FUCK YOU and a cylinder of stun? How many cylinders can we charge/carry on us at once anyway? And that's too bad about the revolver not being a device, but having a custom weapon is still plenty cool in and of itself.

There's several things you can do with them at this point.

The whole thing is just for 'cool' factor anyway. Why does the revolver have lethal rounds, when the entire point is having a weapon that doesn't kill people ?
Because a revolver is pretty sweet. thats way. There isn't much logic behind it, anyone who we can't get with our Heat Ray, won't be much more deterred by the revolver.
>>
>>34294726
All someone has to do is be a level 1 pyro to be immune to almost all the things. A super-kill option that isn't massive amounts of fire is a good thing to have. It probably outranges Akari's power, too.
>>
>>34296131
It's not like Esper powers are infinite. A level 1 pyro couldn't stand in the center of the sun. They're just powerful enough to withstand their own maximum output.

Your PRISMATIC RAYS are significantly more powerful than anything but MAX OVERCHARGED rounds. They're also bigger, less precise, and heat-based.

Besides, there are people who are just as immune to fire and heat as you are...

>>34296131
Precisely!

>>34296272
I might just be crazy, but isn't the center of the sun relatively cool, compared to the surface?
A Level 1 pyro can't do much, but they can still walk through a pretty good blaze unscathed- I like to think that the subconscious gives one a 'buffer' of a few orders of magnitude when it comes to being immune to one's own stuff.
>>
You are Akari Takamichi, and today is the 24th of July... probably. You think there's something you're supposed to remember about today, but it's just not coming to you at the moment.

It's late morning, now, and Mato's no longer in bed and cuddling you. You blink sleep from your eyes and realize that you probably fell asleep after telling her about... what happened yesterday.

It's all a blur after the point where Mato started bleeding- you were seeing red, and not just because there was blood in your eyes... but you remember very clearly how you meticulously disassembled your foe, working your way down from just above his head to a meter or so beneath where his feet had been, systematically destroying him (and everything near him in the process).

You cauterized Mato's wound, you think, and then you passed out.

Oh boy.

You can smell something awful.

You cringe as you realize exactly what it is.

You exit your room quietly and peek into the kitchen, where Mato seems to be cooking up a storm.

Which would be cool, if she wasn't the most horrifically-incompetent cook in the known world!

You slink up behind her and wrap your arms around her, simultaneously hugging her and pinning her arms against her sides.

“Ma-to~” you sing.

“A-Akari!” Mato blurts, surprised by your sudden intervention, “W-what are you-”

You slowly begin dragging her away from the stove. “Come with me if you want to live.”

“... what?”

You sigh. “Mato, you're good at a lot of stuff, okay?” You continue pulling her away. “Cooking is one of the things that is not included in that list of stuff that you're good at. Remember what happened last time?”

She shudders. “The Great Fried Chicken Debacle...”

You nod, even though she's facing away from you and can't see it. “And the time before that?”

She shudders even harder. “The Greater Oil Spill of 2010...”

She seems to remember just fine.
So why did she try again?

You need to cook more clearly.
>>
You move her to the table and release her, then head back into the kitchen. “Honestly, Mato,” you grumble, “I don't know why you'd-”

You stop as you see what she was making.

Vaguely heart-shaped pancakes. There are candles in the topmost one, and 'Happy Birthday, Akari!' is spelled out in chocolate syrup on... all of them.

The pancake mix is sitting, still open, by the bowl she stirred the batter in. Beside it is a box of baking soda and a pepper grinder.

OTHER DETAILS OMITTED FOR CLARITY

You're not sure what you feel worse about. The whole 'scolding Mato for trying to cook for you on your birthday' thing is pretty bad, but... BAKING SODA AND A PEPPER GRINDER?

MATO. WHAT THE HELL.

You sigh again. “I'm sorry, Mato. I didn't realize-”

You look over at her. She's making that face.

You know the one.

Your stomach twists and ties itself in a knot at the sight.

… Oh boy.

You're really gonna do this, huh?

You look at the abomination that has the nerve to call itself a stack of pancakes and sigh once more, steeling yourself the way a person does before doing something insane and reckless, something that puts their life on the line for the greater good.

You sigh one final time, for good measure, and quickly prepare something edible for Mato.

Your life flashes before your eyes, and, before you know it, you're sititng at the table across from Mato. Neither of you has touched what's in front of you.

“Akari... you don't have to-”

You squeeze your eyes shut as she says this, and shush her softly before she can finish.

That's the final nail in the coffin, you know.

Now you HAVE to do this.

You light the candles with a fingertip, for good measure. It wouldn't do to fail to follow proper form.

You blow the candles out and remove them from the 'pancakes' numbly, then raise your utensils.

But percentages were never a thing when creating the Celsius scale, unless you think every scale that goes from 1 to 100 uses percentages.
Also the term degree has nothing to do with Fahrenheit, precedes it by at least 150 years, and is used for multiple scales not just temperature (geometry being an obvious one).

Percentage scales are used for scales denoting units as fractions of 100. The Celsius scale does not do this, as while 0 and 100 are important points on the scale, no temperature is ever described as a fraction of 100. If anything, 0 is the more important number.

For easy check, google 'celsius percentage' or the like and marvel at zero relevant results.

Your battle with the pancakes is a long and arduous one, one that will be rendered in song for future generations, so that they may know of your great struggle.

About halfway through, you realize something.

The reason you're doing this.

It's the fifth element.

Love.

YOU BRANDISH YOUR FORK AND KNIFE, RESOLVE FILLING YOUR BEING ENTIRELY.

YOU'LL DO IT! FOR LOVE!

Each bite is like a punch in the mouth.

It's so, so AWFUL.

By the time you've only a quarter of the starting portion left, you're barely hanging on. You wonder if this is how Ahab felt. “Towards thee I roll...”

There's only a few bites left.

“To the last, I grapple with thee,” you mutter.

Almost there.

“From Hell's heart,” you hiss as you choke down another bite, “I STAB AT THEE!”

ONE MORE TO GO!

“FOR LOVE'S SAKE,” you bellow, shoving the last bit into your mouth, “I SPIT MY LAST BREATH AT THEE!”

Is... is she about to give us the I will kill you if you make her cry talk or similar?

I do not want that talk from someone who can implant brainchips at will.

If its supposed to sound really awkward, then it makes sense.

Dangit, guys
I'll figure something out, I guess.

No. She knows you won't make Mato cry. You killed a man for her and ATE HER COOKING.
Miku's awaiting the wedding day

Yay!

Okay, then. Writing!

Have her ignore the awkward by trying to redirect the topic, only to have it become too much for her.

“Is there something bothering you?”

She hesitates, then shakes her head. “I, uh, I just don't really know how to bring this up. Sorry...” She trails off.

Ah, okay. You've had conversations like this before. You've just gotta let them get comfortable enough to broach the subject. “Don't worry about it,” you say, offering her a thousand-watt smile, “take your time. I'm in no hurry!”

She nods. “Okay... thanks.”

“No problem!” You reach into the pocket of your State Alchemist coat and produce the gifts Mokarin and Fate gave you- a weird top and a rather wicked-looking knife, respectively. “What's up with these, anyways? I don't mean to be rude, but... a top and a scary knife?”

Miku blinks. “Oh! Mokarin's been fascinated by tops for awhile, now. I think it's something to do with her flight functionality. She's really interested in gyroscopic stabilization, I suppose.” She smiles, like a proud mother, which you guess she kind of is?

Huh. That's pretty cool, you guess. She likes you enough to give you something she really likes.
… You never expected a robot to be such a sweetheart.

“And the knife...” She shrugs and slips the blade partway out of its sheath, where the light catches on it's edge and flashes in a way that is almost... intimidating? “I think Fate-chan just really likes edged weapons, and figures everyone should have one, or something.”

She points to the blade and grins. “See that?”

… You don't see anything. Just cold, black metal. “Nope.”

“Exactly! No markings! Fate-chan machined this herself- it's one-of-a-kind, fireproof, and probably won't need sharpening anytime soon.”

“Oh... that's- that's pretty cool, actually.”

She sheathes the knife again and hands it back to you. “... If you think those were weird, though...” She glances away from you and pauses.

Ah, is she finally going for it?

You put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “I'm listening.”

She swallows, nods, and continues, “Uh, you might wanna be ready for Mato-chan and Akane-chan's gifts, y'know?” She laughs awkwardly. “The important thing to remember is, Mato's not trying to propose, alright? She's just...”

>“Propose...?” FREAK OUT.
>Ask what Nee-chan did this time

You panic for a brief moment before regaining your composure.

“... I wouldn't expect anything less,” you say evenly, and Miku nods.

“Mato-chan just doesn't understand the heart of a maiden,” she notes, “and Akane-chan's a big weirdo.”

You snicker at that. “That 'big weirdo' is your girlfriend, you know.”

“Hey! She's MY big weirdo, thank you very much, and she can be really cool if the moment's right!”

The rest of the conversation is relatively normal, and, after a few minutes more, Mato and Nee-chan come into the room, Nee-chan bearing the cake and Mato carrying a couple of nicely-wrapped presents in her arms.

You listen to, rather than endure, their remarkably-pleasant rendition of 'Happy Birthday to You', which is so good that you find yourself suspecting that Miku made them practice beforehand, and then it's time for you to blow out your candles and make a wish...

What do you wish for?
