It’s been a day since you met with the conclave and talked with Waldric about being a super shadow assassin. You’re currently having a good time hanging out and doing nothing productive with Rowan and Vikrama. You’re situated in the family room, and you’re showing your friend all the sweet features of your guitar.

“It’s got like, six strings and everything,” you tell her.

Stress: 3/100
Sanity: 99/100
Bloodlust: Rising

Vikrama hefts the instrument experimentally, as if judging its weight. “It’s great you’re getting into music,” she says, handing it back to you. “What talented friends I have – but now I feel lazy and untalented by comparison.”

Rowan peeks up from one of her new comics, some cool-looking graphic novel you’ll have to borrow later. “This coming from the 4.0 valedictorian that edits the school paper,” she says.

“It’s about all about extracurriculars, darling,” Vikrama says, patronizingly. “Colleges eat up tidbits like that. How many 4.0 valedictorians who edit the school paper can also play the guitar?”

“Whatever,” you say, settling your guitar on your lap. “You do other stuff too.”
>>
>>34273267
You hear somebody walking over. A minute later, there’s a knock on the doorframe, and Isaac peeks in. “How are you girls doing?” he asks. Though you can sense there’s something up.

“Simply marvelously, Mr. Hallow,” Vikrama answers.

“What’s up, Dad?” Ro asks.

“I have some business at the police station,” he says. “I was wondering if you or Sierra wanted to come along with me.”

Vikrama doesn’t say anything, but you can tell she wants to ask why, exactly, either of you would want to take a trip down to the police station with him. Of course, she doesn’t know that Simon probably just got booked, and that you’re going to see if you can get the whereabouts of the hellborn from him.

>Actually you know, I’m kind of busy right now? Have fun.
>Oh yeah. Uh. Just a second.

I can see what's gonna happen here. We're gonna end up having to roll to not murder the hellborn guys later on. Hopefully we can kill a deer or something before we have to go do anything important.

“Oh yeah,” you say. You glance at Vikrama. “Uh. Just as second.” You shoo Isaac away and prepare to leave.

“What’s going on at the police station?” Vikrama asks.

“It’s a work-study kind of thing,” Rowan says, giving a half-hearted explanation.

Vikrama gives her a hard look. “Right. That same online course that has her running to the woods every now and then,” she says. “How could I forget about that.”

Rowan shrugs. “It is a mystery,” she says.

You try to slink out while Vikrama is distracted, but she addresses you directly. “There’s something you two aren’t telling me,” she says sternly, in a motherly tone. “If it’s something you don’t want to talk about, you can just say so. But so long as you keep dropping all these hints all the time, I’m going to keep asking about it.”

>Have you ever had some like, huge, earthshattering secret? Imagine that and like, double it.

Dodge and run smoothly

“Good, good,” you say in a diabolical tone. “That was like, our plan from the very beginning. Keep asking your questions, because one day, when the time is right, you shall know all.”

Vikrama is a little impatient with the theatrics. “And why isn’t today the right time?”

“Because uh. Because you are not yet ready, young one,” you reply. Then you fix an expression of horror on your face and point somewhere right behind Vikrama. “What the hell is that?!” you exclaim.

She glances slightly in the direction indicated, and you bolt out of the room, like a ninja. Or batman. But according to the movie, Batman is a ninja?

Anyway, you go get ready. Even though you’ll probably have to leave your weapons in the car, you take them too, because you wouldn’t want to be caught without them. Then you fetch Isaac from his study when you’re ready to leave, and you drive down to the station – funnily enough, the same one where Isaac found you after you were arrested that one time.

But hey, they couldn’t charge you with anything back then, right? You should be good.

--

You pull off a not-too-crooked parallel parking job and Isaac feeds the parking meter with a bunch of quarters, and you both hop out and walk toward the station.
>>
>>34274357

When you see the big San Fransisco Police Depeartment logo and stuff above the main entrance, you try not to groan too much. There’s cop cars and cops and people that could be cops everywhere. You and police have never really gotten along well, and the prospect of going on their turf kind of makes you nervous, even though you shouldn’t have anything to be nervous about. (+4 Stress: 7/100)

Isaac senses your disquiet, and stops before heading up the steps to the door. “You don’t have to go inside if you don’t want to,” he tells you.

>Maybe I’ll just uh… wait in the car or something. Yeah.
>What, you think this is a problem? Pfft, whatever. I’ve seen problems, this isn’t a problem.
>We’re the good guys, these are the good guys, we’re all the good guys. Let’s go.

>Yeah, and miss out on a kind-of police interrogation? Not on your life.

Heh
>>
>>34274571
Meh, we can take out our aggression on the Hellborne they picked up. Bonus to intimidate when we look like we're slipping into the deep end. Perfect "Good cop, bad cop" set-up. Because while Isaac might be the boogeyman, we can remind them of their boss who they're pretty much guaranteed to know will fuck them up.
>>
>>34274762
"I've been wondering what another Hellborne tastes like. You're the first one I've met . . . that I'll remember tasting. Do you get it, too? That feeling, that rush better than any drug, sweeter than any drink, finer than a lovers tongue gliding down your throat to sit in your stomach like all the rainbows and puppydogs in the whole wide world smiling at you?

Pop a claw and trace down his neck while using Belphegoran mood powers. Try to balance him between freaking out and attacking by having Isaac (Freaking Demonbane) standing beside us . . . looking worried.

Seriously, these new mood powers of ours can be total hax for interrogation like this. Also, we can sate our bloodlust a little if it gets too high.
>>
>>34274793
>>34274762

>quest players

>>
>>34274830
Players gonna take whatever opportunities they can to get edgy
>>
>>34274846
This is just stupid. I mean, Christ, I'm the dude that wanted to do shit with Philo's head, but this stuff people are saying is dumb. Sierra is doing this because she wants to help these hellborn guys if possible, so they decide to start doing writeins for threatening to eat them while holding what is essentially a very sharp knife to their throat and using mindfucky powes on them? And that's discounting the whole not-even-being-aware-of-who-they're-suggesting-we-do-this-to thing.

Anyway, yeah. Edge is fun sometimes, but this is just plain bad.
>>
>>34274846
Pfft, maybe some of us want to actually play a girl who grew up in and out of foster care, on the streets, who's still a little immature herself and currently has (some) COSMIC POWERS and is probably a little edgy herself, instead little orphan annie with claws.

It would also work if Simon wasn't a hellborne, because he'd probably be desperate to send us after them instead of him.

Honestly, though, I'm pretty sure we're going to let Isaac do the talking. That was just my back-up plan for if we start to stress out too much.
>>
>>34274793
>Seriously, these new mood powers of ours can be total hax for interrogation like this.
If you're talking about the thing that lets us manipulate how people see us and figure out how to better make them do what we want, we didn't get those, m8. We have the thing that lets us taste emotions, the thing that makes people depressed, and the thing that makes em scared. Nothing else related to mood.
>>
>>34274890
Sorry, that was for if we were stressing. Rather than breaking down, lets break someone. We were a gang-banger, back at a place that reminds us of that time, and when people are under stress they revert to what they first learned. Maybe Isaac will pull us off and let us cool down, but I don't really see Sierra being doing that on her own unless she suddenly matures a crap-ton more than a teenage girl who was last under arrest here would. You don't back down in Gangland, you double down.
>>
>>34274912
>We have the thing that lets us taste emotions
That one sounds kind of hax to me. We can tell when they get more nervous, or when they relax and use that to pressure them.
>>
“We’re the good guys, they’re the good guys, we’re all the good guys,” you say, being all, you know, aloof and crap. “Let’s get in there.”

“Nothing’s stopping you from walking in the front door,” Isaac points out.

“Yeah, except you not walking toward the front door,” you reply. “I’m not walking in a police station like I own the damn place.”

Isaac gives you a kind of look that’s kind of a midway between concern and suspicion.

It rustles your feathers a bit. (+1 Stress: 8/100) “What, you think this is a problem?” you ask, giving Isaac an impatient look. “Yeah whatever, I’ve seen problems, this isn’t a problem. You’re a problem. Let’s just get in there already.” You turn from him and lead the way, just to show how much of a not-problem it is.

As you near the door, a police officer comes out and holds it open for you. You give him a nervous glance and skirt around him, careful to leave as much distance between you and him as possible as you go into the building.

Oh geeze. It’s like, the exact same as it was, except maybe there’s a few less people here due to Christmas vacation. Festive wreaths and tiny desk-friendly Christmas trees are everywhere, and it smells like somebody spilled a lot of hot chocolate on the floor a few days ago and didn’t get around to cleaning it up.

The receptionist is about to ask what she can do for you when Isaac stalks in behind you. He nods at her, and leads the way.
>>
>>34275064
+1 strss, that's not too bad.
>>
>>34275064

“Yeah, that’s right,” you say, staring the woman down even as you try to stay in Isaac’s shadow. You remain very close to the American hero as you go through the station and pass cops doing various police-person things like talking on phones and working on computers and chatting with one another.

So many police people. Do they recognize you? Well, why would they, actually? You look completely different – longer hair, an awesome jacket, and you’re not even wearing handcuffs. Right. (+3 Stress: 11/100) “You know, last time I was here,” you tell Isaac under your breath, “I almost freaked out. Like, I came within an inch of freaking the hell out. That’s why I hit the one guy with a Dementor sphere.”

“I know,” says Isaac. “I was there.”

“You think that guy’s in right now?” you ask, smirking and looking around and trying not to be intimidated by all the uniformed police officers about. “Should I drop by and say hi?”

Isaac smiles wryly at you. “If you’d like to,” he says. “I’m sure Officer Flowers would be happy to see you’ve cleaned up your act.”

The demontongue section is kinda crummy. You could be listing the different languages used down there or something like that, but instead you just have Sierra's name and the word for blood in Heltic. I assume you were going for some kind of list of every word we've ever heard in Heltic? If that's the case, change the name of the section to "Known Heltic Words" and actually give the meanings with them.
>>
>>34275815
>>34275921
Also, why is it under the Magic section at all?
>>
>>34275921
It's the crummiest but player knowledge is a lot more limited than Sierra's right now. Languid mentioned she has learned words from Ranthix but never went into detail.

I at least remember only two words in Heltic and they are the ones listed.

Honestly though, I'm not sure how I want to display this whole thing, or this particular part. I'll keep your suggestion in mind for sure though.
>>
>>34275999
It's not. I've just not given it bolding and colouring yet since it's practically empty. Maybe I should move it to the bottom of the whole thing until we have more to add?
>>
>>34276031
>I at least remember only two words in Heltic and they are the ones listed.
You have "Nydalis" listed up in the pdf earlier...
There's also aggot that was presumably the command for "Kill".

Since we know there are multiple languages, you could do it like

>Word [Origin] - Definition
So it would be like
>Sakerith [Heltic] - blood
Maybe word whether it's a noun/verb/adjective/whatever into it somewhere.
>>
>>34275815
I also should mention that the formatting is probably going to change on the pee dee eff. I'm not too keen on this one.

Anyone got any suggestions for a font for a document that looks like one of those official government documents? Should also be easy to read.
>>
>>34276104
Orite, Nydalis is a Heltic word too. Duh.

>>34276104

“Geeze, it was just talk,” you say. “You know what a joke is, right?”

“I’m told I don’t,” Isaac responds.

You don’t know if he’s joking or not. Maybe his humor levels are higher than you give him credit for. “Whatever,” you say. “We’re here for Simon and stuff. Do you need to talk to the police chief dude?”

“He’ll talk to me sooner or later,” he says. Man. Isaac’s got some weight if he can push around ranking police officers.

“By the way,” you say, getting back onto the topic of Officer Flowers. “Speaking of the guy. He was okay after, right?” You don’t really know if there are any long term effects to when you mentally screw people over.

Isaac nods. “He was a little shaken for a couple days, but he got over it.”

Well, that’s good, you think to yourself. You take notice of how a few officers sit up and take notice of Isaac walking through their midst. “You uh. Work a lot with cops? Like. Normal cops?”

“They’re my eyes and ears,” says Isaac. “But most of these boys only know me as a consultant who gets his hands dirty.” You snicker at the fact that Isaac can call all the grizzled police veterans around you ‘boys’ in complete seriousness. Isaac continues. “What I do is on a need to know basis.”

“Cool,” you say.
>>
>>34276226
You start getting back toward the interrogation room when somebody comes over and shakes Isaac’s hand. He’s a big guy probably in his fifties, with graying hair and a bristly mustache, just like the one all cops should have. The police officer seems a bit more portly than a street officer should be, and the air of authority about him marks him as somebody important. He’s in a dark blue, uniformed suit thing with rank insignia on the shoulders.

“I thought you’d drop in,” says the officer cop. “You know, it’s hard to bring someone in for questioning when you don’t know what you’re questioning them about.”

“Good to see you too, Aguilar,” Isaac says, pulling out of the handshake and taking a step back. “I’m sure it’s a real hardship to arrest someone who was carrying drugs and an illegal firearm.”

“I see you’ve met Simon Icart before then,” says the police captain.

“I let him go with a warning,” Isaac replies. “You get to keep him. If you could have someone bring him into the interrogation room, that would be very helpful.”
>>
>>34276244

“What’s this all about?” asks Aguilar.

“The usual,” Isaac replies. “You don’t want your officers getting involved with this one.”

Captain Aguilar turns his attention to you, distrustfully. “Who’s she?” he asks. His eyes show a glimmer of recognition. “Wait. I’ve seen you before,” he says, surprise and anger in his tone. “Isaac, you’d better have a damn good reason for bringing this punk into my station.”

It'd probably look weird with the horns up there too. If the horns morphed into some kind of shadowy thing, that'd be badass tho. Lawnguy did say that the different bloodlines all warp and influence the traits of eachother, so maybe it'll happen.

You grin smugly at Aguilar. You’ve got friends in high places.

“She’s an observer,” says Isaac, “and she won’t be causing any trouble for you today. You have my word.”

“An observer?” the Captain says incredulously. “You’re the last person who would let anyone observe the work you do.”

You can no longer keep quiet, even though such is probably the smarter course of action. “Okay, maybe I’m not like, totally an observer,” you say. “I’m kind of here in the capacity of a consultant. Like. I’m your consultant’s consultant,” you explain. “It’s kind of deep and stuff, so I wouldn’t expect you to understand.”

It’s so hard not to laugh right now. You’re in the guy’s station and making fun of him to his face and he can’t do anything about it. (-8 Stress: 3/100)

Aguilar looks down his nose at you. You can tell he’s pretty mad right now, and no less so from your condescending snarkiness.

“Just bring out Simon,” says Isaac, drawing the attention and anger back to himself, “and we’ll make this quick. We’ll be out of the way before you know it.”

Begrudgingly, the Captain nods and orders a couple of passing officers to withdraw Simon.

A few minutes later, you and Isaac are standing in front of the observation window that looks into the interrogation booth. An officer sits a disgruntled guy into the chair and walks out, locking the door behind him. Simon Icart is a greasy-haired guy with too many freckles and dark eyes.

You can feel the smoky anger and the sweet, sweet taste of fear coming from him from where you stand. So sweet. Still, he sits completely immobile, staring hard at the glass as if daring somebody to come in and question him.

The room has a cheap desk lamp and the overhead lights flicker every once in a while. The temperature inside is set to sixty degrees, and Simon seems a little uncomfortable without a jacket.

Captain Aguilar walks over for a moment. “This guy’s a real piece of work, Isaac. You really know how to find them,” he says, scowling a little. “For the next hour, nobody’s going to come down this hall. You’d better be gone when time runs up.” Aguilar leaves without saying anything else.

“What to do, what to do,” Isaac says, watching Simon with a kind of unsettling, steely gaze.

>So, what do we know about this guy?
>Well, we only have an hour. You want me to like, keep watch? I’ll knock on the glass if anybody’s coming.

Terrorizing Gaze ought to help with any bad cop shenanigans we do.
>>
>>34277946
We can be all cheerful while terrorizing him too for maximum confusion. Drop him right into the uncanny valley, yo.

We can even play up the angle, if it turns out that he knows about the whole demon shebang, that Isaac's job is to kill demons. We can be ominously silent about what our job is, but let slip that Phylia isn't around anymore.

Worst comes to worse, we hit two birds with one stone and start working on becoming Waldrics secret weapon. Perhaps we can do this while Isaac is out of the office, and then he'll think we're also strong enough to fool a Demonbane.

Or something. I feel like we should be terrifying and vague goddamnit.

“Well, he’s angry and afraid,” you say. “I mean. He’s doing a good job of not showing it, but he is. I can feel it.”

“You can pick that up from here?” Isaac asks, curiously.

You shrug. “Yeah. If we get like, an earpiece or something I could let you know the play by play of how he’s doing, if that’d help.”

“That would help, actually. Simon’s hard to deal with. He’s spent more time on the streets than you have,” says Isaac. He pulls a Bluetooth headset out of his pocket and slips it over an ear, and makes you to call him on your cell. He adjusts the volume so it isn’t audible when you’re talking.

“Look at you being all fancy with technology,” you say, grinning.

Isaac gives a brief smile. “I have my moments.”

“Okay. So before you get in there and knock this out of the park,” you say, “what do we know about this guy?”

Isaac takes a minute to give you some background information. Basically, he had a crappy family or something, and then got mixed up with some gang. And then he distanced himself from the gang, but kept up with the whole laundering money angle. Turns out he was pretty good at it, and had a few good clients that kept him going. But then he got mixed up with drugs and like, dangerous people like Nabuth and demon people, which wasn’t really okay, but made him a lot more money.
>>
>>34278918

Other than that, Simon’s a smart guy who’s pretty much out for himself all the time. He doesn’t really understand the depth of trouble working with demons is, but he knows it makes more than regular business.

“And that’s who we have sitting in that room, right now,” says Isaac, nodding at Simon, who is impatiently tapping his fingers on the table.

Simon speaks suddenly. “So what’s this about then?” he asks the mirror, leaning back in his chair. His voice comes through the speakers. “You needed to make some quota? Put somebody in jail?” He laughs derisively. “Plus one for the fucking government!”

“Hm. Seems like a cool guy,” you say offhandedly.

Isaac walks over to the door and prepares to go inside. “Wish me luck,” he says. Then he goes in, closing the door behind him.

Simon stands up suddenly, staring Isaac down. “You’re not a cop,” he says, surprised. He turns to the glass. “This guy’s crazy! He’s some paranormal bullshit quack! I want a lawyer!” Confusion joins the anger and fear and other mixed emotions coming from Simon.

Isaac, however, finds his seat and sits down. “Have a seat,” he says. It’s not really so much an offer as it is a command. Resolve and revulsion waft from Isaac like heat from a steady blaze.
>>
>>34278918

Simon paces behind his chair. “I don’t have to do anything for you, wacko,” he says. His anger builds into a frenzy along with his discomfort at the situation, eclipsing his fear.

Isaac’s voice takes on a resonant, implacable tone that seems to hit you from the other side of the glass. “I said sit down,” he orders.

Noticing how little room he has to squirrel about or further distance himself from the demonbane, Simon decides to obey. “Fine. What’s it you want?” he asks, nervous, but defiant. His expression and tone though are fit for the poker table.

>Hey Isaac, I’m going to hit the lights in a second. It’ll be just you and him in the dark with that little dinky lamp.

We're just using our Verwalken powers. We don't need to say anything about being an assassin, we just let the higher ups put two and two together. I presume demon politics inclines people towards the "it's not paranoia if they're actually out to get you" mindset.

We can just say that it seemed like a good idea at the time. I mean, we're pretty freaking impulsive, it wouldn't be out of character at all. Besides, we gotta lay the groundwork for when people eventually find out who we are. It'll be way better if we can come out as the Imperatrix who ruled from the shadows, building up a power base by assassinating Waldric's rival and then pushing out or taking over possible competition, all the while doing it under a Demonbane's nose.

Exactly. Revealing ourselves as someone who is a scary fucker/behind the scenes player as being actually the new Imperatrix makes people go "oooh, click!"

Whereas coming out of nowhere as an Imperatrix that Wally our old pal "found" makes it look like a power play on his end.

Which could actually be useful too if we're willing to go full disguise when we come out, but I feel like that will be so situational that it's not worth it.

Also, lets not forget mom's old empire had a bunch of Infernus (respect strength) and Belphegoran (can tell when you're lying) in it, so I feel like KISS is the best plan here.

Actually, what I was talking about was reasoning to Isaac as to why we're going to do what we're going to do.

>>
>>34281210
Who says we absolutely have to do anything horror like at all? We got a good roll for the emotional read on Simon, so I feel the best course of action would be to let Isaac do his thing while we advise him as to Simon's emotional state, thus enhancing the effectiveness of Isaac's interrogation.

Sure, we could go all shadow demon and make Simon shit his pants, but that's not the goal here. All we need from Simon is the location of the two stygian hellborn. Anything more than that is unnecessary.
