You test the seats as the halftrack glides down the street. The ride was surprisingly smooth, and the seats were a comfortable brown leather. Or faux leather- either way it was a welcome change from the hard metal bench you'd occupied before Anchovy had arrived.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank "Black Jack" and you've been invited back to Anzio's HQ by their Commander, the Napoleonic Anchovy- a short girl with delicated girled pigtails and a penchent for leather boots and bravado.

Unfortunately, Yukari hadn't made it back to you and Miho with any kind of relief for the massive volume of Italian food you'd both consumed with the help of Anchovy's lieutinant, Pepperoni. Who's sitting across from you along with Anchovy and another girl- a blond.

You lean back- partially to appear more at ease and casual and partially to relax the pressure on your still-engorged stomach. Luckily you aren't one for being carsick.

At this point the driver turns around. "Someone ask for me?"

"Oh." You say. "Um... Nothing- just talking about Pizza toppings..." Looking back and Anchovy and Pepperoni, they don't seem as entertained by the joke or who real it turned out. "Sorry- didn't actually... uh... I'm gonna be quiet now."

You pat your belly. "I can see why you'd take a lot of pride in your food..." The twelve pounds of pasta you feel like you've packed away is testiment to that.

Miho nods politely. "Pepperoni is an excellent cook! I don't think I've ever eaten that much in my life!" Thank you Miho- rescuing you from making an ass of yourself since forever.

Pepperoni beams proudly as Anchovy pays her own compliments. "She's a true artist. Bold and creative. She's a true paragon of our school's strengths!"

Miho nods and gives you a short explanation. "Anzio's central theme has always been food- its what they're famous for!" You'd sort of guessed that from the huge number of food stalls and restaurants you've seen. "Even if their senshado team isn't always the most successful, their greatest pride will be their cooking!"

Anzio nods slowly. "Our food is our pride, but you underestimate our team this year, Miss Nishizumi." She says carefully. "Our team will take after our food preparation and this year we will finally show the world what we're capable of!" She balls her hands into a fist, looking fiercely into the distance as the halftrack rumbles along.

"Wait..." You say, looking from her to Miho and back. "What does cooking have to do with tanks?"

Pepperoni smiles before she answers in for her leader. "Do you cook, Commander?"

You shrug. "Nothing really fancy like you guys do... Pancakes and bacon for breakfast- and I know my way around a Barbeque... Burgers, dogs and steaks, mostly." You shake your head. "Honestly, always tried to stay away from the big flashy European recipes- too many things for me to screw up." You smile with the self depricating joke.

Pepperoni nods and closes her eyes as she thinks. "Well, those 'flash European recipes' require a lot of thought, patience, practice and even timing- only a few minutes are the difference between pasta that's tough and chewy or soggy and mushy. You have to know exactly when its perfect..."

Anchovy continues. "These are the same things that make one excellent in a carro armato." She says, using some pretty out of place Italian. Well, maybe not for her.

Miho smiles. "Our gunner feels much the same about her gunnery and her flower arranging. She feels that each makes her better at the other."

>>
"So, what does my cooking say about my tanking?" You ask, you'd lean in because its actually a pretty interesting connection. Unfortunately your stomach won't let you move more than a few inches forward.

Anchovy looks to Pepperoni, who looks back. Anchovy nods and her lieutenant gives you her analysis. "You're straight-forward, even simple. You don't have the patience for elaborate plans, you prefer to look at the problem and solve it with the most direct application of brute force you can find."

You blink a couple of times. "Thanks?" You're not sure whether you should take it as a compliment, but its not entirely innaccurate- even if you still think you're a bit more flexible than she gives you credit for. "So... You guys took down Maginot? How did you manage that?"

And with that, Anchovy smiles at you.
