Previously:
San Diego is wiped out by a tidal wave, a young man caught in the deluge as the city is erased by what some might consider the very wrath of god in a world with a sky of endless colors. Snatched from the brunt of the wave, the young man faces an inhuman creature of humanoid form that strikes out his eye to deliver onto him the gift of magic by means of the followers.

Praise be to Susej they say. These followers.

Selfish in his means of survival, a young man rallies with these people for his own safety as the government seeks to keep the truth of the world under wraps, that magic exists and that people like the followers are throwing it into chaos.

Sent on a mission to liberate people captured for conscription based on their awakening to magic, he journeys with others to meet with a woman planted for this very purpose, finding adversity on the way.

Having left a trail all too easy to follow, he's been captured and taken to the very place he'd been looking to gain access, though not exactly on his own terms...

Recently rescued by unknown allies, the young man takes on a new alias “Faust” to help him lay low.

You are Faust, welcome to Over(human)Limit S2

The night plays a sleepy melody on the violins of crickets, their chirps easing the discomfort of the occasional rustle in the wild dark. A cheshire moon smiles with white teeth, leaping through the colors of the night's aurora, a psychedelic plethora of color dancing and filtering moonlight.
No one's ever really known why the sky's been like this since that day.

The weatherman rolled out some mumbo jumbo that anyone with two bits to their name and a basic level of science could call out as bullshit.
You missed it though. The darkness of that cell and even the colors of the other world can't really match the beauty, the completion of this one. A warm breeze catches the flames of a bonfire that light grateful faces, yours amongst them. They look to the woman in blue, the man in red, and the queer in a fancy suit for answers.

Saphira sits at the edge of the flame with Marcus, an invisible tension between them. Yet the woman says little, telling them to eat and speak to one another, once more emphasizing the importance of finding a bit of companionship amongst those newly freed of isolation.
Helia sleeps in the cabin up on the hill, the glow of the fire outlining it against the dark, it's a fuzz in the astral. No wards, and barely anyone can see it.

Some of the people here talk, or rather some have been talking since before being persuaded. Saphira sits at the edge of the flame with Marcus, an invisible tension between them.
A man with dark hair sits alone, nursing a water bottle and a deli sandwich with most of the contents removed. Onion set aside, mustard and mayo notably scraped off. He doesn't talk to anyone, and contents himself with observing the others. In the astral, you see dark things looming around him, looking back at you even. It's an unnerving feeling, amplified only when he too looks your way. The two of you stare at each other for a breathless second before you look away. A rub at your arm reveals goosebumps.

There's an Old Woman here, a wonder that she even made the run with all that was going on. She sits with another woman that sits submissively, bandages wrapped the entire way around her face. The two of them talk frigidly, neither of them committing to any food. Not in the mood for it given the recent exodus you guess. Astral reveals that there's something wrong with the bandaged woman's face, a dull red noting her lingering concern as it rides up part of the way up her face.
The Older woman has a shadow looming over her, something hanging from a thread from above. It's too hazy and indistinct to understand, it's more like a feeling. Death?

A young lady of Auburn hair and an all too wide grin pesters another boy perhaps a bit younger than her that seems entirely too gloomy. When he finally looks away from her, she tears off a piece of his sandwich, eating it brazenly in front of him to which he gives her a deathly glare, "I will cut off your fingers, fuck off!"

“She's only playing, there's more sandwiches.” Saphira chimes in with Marcus leering harshly at the kid. Everybody looks at him, some with a bit of disdain, others revulsion at the violent outburst. The man sitting alone smiles, shaking his head slowly.

You take a bite of your own sanwich.

“That lad's a bit of a tryhard, isn't he?” John chuckles with a patronizing shake of his head. “Around that age, huh?”

“Yeah.”

“Blood is... Gross.” Says Elena, her hair still dripping wet from a dip in the river. A few of the ladies headed right over earlier to get themselves feeling some kind of clean.
Blood's more disgusting than riverwater though? You shake your own head to that thought. Some people, you swear. Just believing whatever they want to believe.

There's a blonde-haired guy sitting beside that waitress. To your relief, she still hasn't recognized you yet. Maybe if you had a psychotic ice ghost with you again, or you showed off how well you torture people into forced awakenings she'd remember your face? She looks your way and you try to remember her name. Even if you aren't going to say it, it's best that you know it.
You don't know why, but it feels like it'd be kind of a courtesy to the one you tortured. Maybe?
You bite your lip and look away. A part of you still can't believe you did that shit so easy. Another part wonders if these feelings are the work of the lady in blue. But deep down you're pretty sure that the followers brought out some of the worst shit in you.
Makes you almost wonder if all of them are like that.

Absolved from conscience.

The fire cracks, and sparks drift up and disappear into the night on the tide of shadowy heat.

Might as well get to know some of these people... There are others besides the one you've been watching, but these are the interesting ones.

Your eye lingers on the Crone and the Wounded Maiden. The way that the younger woman nurses herself with the words of the elder interests you in some odd manner. Of note, Is that the woman's body doesn't look that bad, even with the voluminous prison-whites. Then again, any fleshy thing looks about good to you. Though Lucia will always be superior.
You stand up with your eye on your target. “Gonna go meander like the lady in charge wants.” You dangle your water bottle in front of John, “Hold this for me?”

“Sure you don't want me to be a wingman? Though that one's lookin' awful skittish...”

You shrug, “I'm fine with goin' solo. Last wingman I had near shot me in the head. Just hold my drink, okay?”

“Roger that, good airs mate.” John gives you a half-hearted salute with your drink in hand before knocking back the bottle.

“You fuck'n ass.” You grumble as you head around the fire to the two ladies.

“As good a one to another chum.” John gives you one last snipe before you're out of mumble distance.

The Old Woman acknowledges your approach, the shadows of her wrinkled face cast long by the fire. She gives you a slight smile, deep laugh lines folding within her profile. “Hello there young man. Are you doing well?” Her voice is old and tired, her hair white wisps upon her head.

The other woman looks to you, a single eye visible from the bandages upon her face, the subtle emergence of a dandelion sheen from her pupil, “Ah- hello.” An older feminine voice from her, a slight southern drawl. She draws her knees into herself, the single eye regarding you warily. “Hello suh...” She says again as she rubs her legs for some self-comfort.
>>
>>34261036
A complete hour is long even for your standards
>>
>>34261069

“Got a problem? You squat down beside the two, not much in way of seats. Your shadow looms across from them and you feel the heat of the fire at your back, draining away the slight chill of the summer night.

“No! N-no suh. Ahm jus' fine. Jus' a bit cold y'see. Noth'n wrong 'tall.” Her eye avoids you, rolling away to the ground.

“Now, now. That's impolite Roseanne...” The Older woman lends a hand to the other's shoulder as a bid of comfort, “My name is Gertrude, this is Roseanne.” Her elderly smile persists through a slow nod, you can almost hear her old bones creaking in her spine. “And what is your name?”

“Faust” You say, sniffing up some of the lingering smoke from the fire. A breeze blows to your back, carrying the heat of the flames, “Don't really mean any trouble, just following the Lady in Blue's advice.” You scratch your head, feeling up the back of your head. Your hair's still a bit shaggy, should fix that.

“Ah yes, you are acquainted with her?” Gertrude's eyes widen a bit, a twinkling of moisture from her dry eyes.

“Only recently.”

“She and the man are rather familiar with you considering.” Gertrude stifles a little chuckle, “Just letting you know it could make one wonder.”

You nod idly, your eye falling back on Roseanne, “What were the two of you in for? Judging by this crowd there's a little bit from most walks of life.” You pass a look over the fire, illuminated faces embraced by the darkness of a wooden night-time.

“Something you'd often answer first, yes?” The old woman shakes her head, “I refused to be coerced into fighting for my country. They took that as my agreement to be put into a prison of rubber walls.”

Roseanne looks to Gertrude, then the ground before you, “Ah... Mah circumstance is a bit, ah, private suh. Ah hope that you might understand...” A subconscious hand touches her cheek with an all too fresh memory.

Mention that the followers scrambled our eyeball, gauge Roseanne's reaction.

Two things could happen from that
>She's too stupid to put "followers" and "bad crowd" together
"Oh, I had mah face destroyed as well! Can I be your minion plox?"

Anyways, even if number 2 is what happens, at least we get that shit out in the open so it doesn't blow up in our face later. The truth is like a cleansing light, right?

You can assume that Marcus and Saphira have it though.
>>

>>
>>34261628
Would making a mirror out of water/ice or something like that let us see ourself with astral vision, or is that not how it works?
>>
>>34261649
I would think so. Speaking of Donner, hopefully we can get him fixed this thread. We need to diagnose his mental state, there's no telling what that hex did to his mind. He might be completely insane and frothing at the mouth, or he may be a straight up pacifist that has learned violence=soul rending pain.
>>
Am I the only one that dislikes that we feel guilt now?
Because that could hinder some of our plans
>>
>>34261628
But doesn't it work by looking through other people's eyes or something? It doesn't even work when Asher's isolated by himself. I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the mechanics of astral sight which functions in that manner but also does not allow viewing of the self.
>>
>>34261688
>or he may be a straight up pacifist that has learned violence=soul rending pain
Why does that remind me of HK47 with the pacifist upgrade
>>
>>34261701
I really dislike it. I don't know if this is Dran thinking that non-villains are more popular and trying to get more players or if he just got bored of scumbag Asher or what, but this feels like a slap in the face.
>>
We never did rework the contracts. Pretty sure Dran said that was going to just happen offscreen because really it's just 2 or 3 words that need changing, but they're still the same in the paste.

>>
>>34261723
I don't really think so. I mean, we fuck Satan on the reg.

Probably just that we were mustache twirlingly evil to such a huge degree that it didn't make -that- much sense. We went from, "the followers can help me gain power." to 'I'm gonna blow up a damn and kill tons of people because vaguely defined reward.".

Also probably added it to give us an excuse to move away from the followers, which I'm grateful for because they creeped me the fuck out.
>>
>>34261910
>because vaguely defined reward.".
You don't like rewards?
I mean you can argue but Gods pay well.
>>
>>34261910
We already had an excuse to move away from them in the form of Lucifer wanting Asher to gather up his own group of followers with him in control, and that directly conflicted with being a member of the Followers.
>>
So what do we guess astral Asher looks like? I'm guessing he kinda looks like a flaming marionette with some ominous, nebulous light cloud thing hovering around him holding the strings.

Anything you'd like to do or say concerning these two?

“Refugee from Cali.” A look away for a moment of thought, what exactly do you say? “I... Ran with a bad crowd for a while after that.” You say, and reach for your eye as you sit the rest of the way down onto the loamy soil And a group called the followers took my eye- if you were wondering. I've learned to live without it though.”

Your gaze returns to Gertrude and Roseanne, neither of them budge much, the the latter does speak, “Po' dear. Tha's jus' a heinous thing t' do t' someone.”

Gertrude's eyes turn to the younger woman, “It is cruel, yes. But they did not take this dear's life.”
“Faust.” Her eyes bear a recognition for you, the crease of her smile increases, “That's a charming name. You remind me of my late husband, from his younger days. A shame that he's not around anymore...”

“Gertrude. Might I ask you how you.. awakened to magic? There's got to be a reason that you were in that place, right?”

Gertrude slowly nods her head,”Ah, yes...” She touches her chin, slowly searching her old memory for your query, before giving an understanding sigh.
“Yes, I know what you're asking. My husband's passed recently you see, making me to be a widow. Living alone isn't easy for an old woman like me. One day I'd fallen and I'd never splurged for one of those senior alarms. Fiddlesticks, that'll never happen to me I had thought.”
She smiles as she tells her story. It's a strange disparity, the mirth in her old breath, despite what must've been a traumatic experience.
“I couldn't get up. Hurt my arm on the fall, and my legs were too weak. I'd laid there for days, talking on and on, eventually finding the event hysterical.” She chuckles now.
>>
>>34262218

“Just when I thought to give up, I saw a little spider coming down upon a single thread no wider than my own hair. It was then that I thought, 'Such a fragile thing. Its life hanging by a single thread. The slightest thing goes wrong and it could end up dead. Could this be my mistake?'

No, I said and started up. I pushed through the ache in my bones and crawled off to a railing to help myself up. I had strength that I didn't know that I had. When I finally stopped, I saw that my body was alight with a strange power... and that is how I awakened.”

“That's... Honestly pretty mundane.”

“Not all of us are so interesting dear.” The old woman laughs, a near cackling.

“Ahm.. I'd like t' tellm-mine as well.” Roseanne mumbles as though she's faint of heart.

Gertrude's bony fingers are laid upon the other woman's shoulder, “Go on dear, we're listening.”

With a deep breath, the southern woman begins, “Ah grew up with mah family back in Georgia... We were a real godly family. Pa' made sure that me an' mah sis'er said our prayers an' respected him an' momma. Always said...” She swallows, “Allows said that women are for men, and that they cook, clean, and raise children. Ah didn't quite believe tha' but I loved mah pa.
Ah married a man he said fer me t' marry. I said that I loved him, but he was...” She swallows hard, pushing back tears, “He was not kind t' me. Mah family don't believe in such a thing as divorce, so I had t' stay with him.
Some days he'd come home an' he'd reek of the drink. Ah tol' him that he bes' stop 'for he loses his job 'cause he makes all the money. But he'd just tell me t'... Shut up 'n make 'em dinner. But when he did... He'd hit me.” She sniffles, choking back some tears now, clutching at the prison-whites from her time.
>>
>>34262249
“Now dear, you don't need to force yourself...”

“'s Okay. Ahm okay Ma'am. Jus'.. jus' gimme a moment, please?” The bandages by her left eye have darkened, wet from tears she's trying to hold back.

You stay silent and wait for her to continue. A slight tilt of your head maybe but you keep your hands to yourself. Rather not touch a woman that knows pain comes from the hands of a man.
In your own mind, you do muse about what she might think of someone like Camille. Born in the wrong body...

Some of the others find themselves watching your little story session, when Roseanne's finally ready, she continues.

“Ahm sorry. So... When I awakened, mah husband'd come home af'r an especially rough night. Real mad that day and I made to scold him from the kitchen. Ah didn't see when he came up to me, but when I turned to see him standing there... He... Grabbed me... An' he put... Mah face...” She trembles, whispering out each word, “Into... The... Hot... Pan... Ah screamed. An' he yelled at me fer screamin. I asked- begged 'im t' stop.”
She touches her face, digging in through the bandages, “Don' think I'll be havin a husband again.” She cries openly and Gertrude puts her own skeletal hands around the woman.

“Shhh.. Child. I'm here. We're here. Let it all out.”

Getting up, you pat off your pants, “I don't much think I'm needed here.” You lower your head and turn away, “I'm sorry for you.” An afterthought, but you feel you should say it.

The others appear alarmed, yet still mind their own. You realize now that Saph's been watching the entire time. It's likely that she's weighing what kind of a person you are.

You're kind of trying to do that yourself.

The girl with the fox ears isn't by the brooding kid anymore, he's alone and she's over messing with the waitress- Cassie's her name.
She seems to be incessantly talking to them and poking the blonde guy, much to the test of his patience.

The Man that sits alone is watching you now, his sandwich finished. But he's not going to be approaching you- or anyone.

Asher's pretty dead set on summoning Lucifer. That requires both Summoning and Alchemy at Divine (though he could probably pull it off with one at Divine and the other at Master if he's willing to take some pain for it). The only spell we have that doesn't work towards that goal is Materia Firma and I guess Pyromancy is a rank higher than it needs to be if you want to be really anal about it.
>>
>>34262964
Oh wait. I forgot Illusion, sorry. That spell is actually a pretty big waste for us to have.
>>
>>34262891
>>34262964
It's not like having lots of side spells is even bad. Alchemy and Summoning both benefit from having other spells unlocked. Sure, buying way too many other things will make it harder to level up Sum&Alch, but they're far from useless.

Once we get both of them up to Master, we should either start buying as many different spells as we can get or we should level all our current spells up to Adept+, because you can do some craaaaaaazy shit when you have multiple -mancies under your belt.
>>
With the man looking at you, it's gotten too hard to just ignore the eerie vibe that you get from him. You start to walk over and he pats himself down, likely freeing his hands of crumbs.
He stands up to meet you, and reaches out, obliging you to shake his hand, “Hello there fellow. Tony, and your name is?”

You look at the man's hand, even in the dancing light of the fire you can see how pale this man is. Against your better judgement, you shake his hand. “Faust”
He smiles, and it's a little too wide, or the shadows on his face are a touch too long. He's not using any magic, but that doesn't deter the rate at which you withdraw your hand after the exchange.

“So...Tony?” You ask, and he looks away for a moment, as though he's about to laugh at some kind of unheard joke.

“That's a nice name you've got friend. It suits you.” He says with one hand rubbing the other, fingers that are meant to be busy with something else.
Why, have you got a moment? I'd like to tell you a little story.”

Pre-recorrded this. Told myself I'd try not to put it in but I can't resist.

"Sure." You say, with an air of detachment. On the inside though, every fiber of your being tells you that you should be wary of this man.

He smiles, licking away the dryness of his cracked lips, "It begins with a time that I'd been out in the rain for a while, coming back from a little trip out to the woods, a stood up date. Man found me by the side of the road. Came right up beside me with his pickup and opened the door. Asked me if I knew my own name and needed a ride.

"Told him my name was John." He pauses, his eyes meeting yours now, "His name was William."

"William was an honest fellow." Leaning a gainst a tree, his thoughts seem to go somewhere else. You slip into astral sight and you can see him looking at one of the black things in his company.

"We talked for a while in his car. He'd told me about how he's been where I've been, how everyone needs a lift up. To humor him, I agreed. I had doubted that he'd been where I've been, but if he was willing to talk, I'd let him. I love hearing what others have to say. William Let me into his home, offered me a change of clothes, the shirt off his back. Kept me for a cup of coffee while I told him the truth of why a man like me would be standing out in the rain alone."

"To me, he was... of an agreeable sort." Tony nods in slow approval, rapidly turning into a shake of his head," Though, he didn't like my stories. No, he didn't like my stories."
Tony's eyes find you, and his smile grows wide again, amused by something he sees that you may never know.

"I'm... Alright.” You steady your posture, staying straight, too straight, like a plank at attention. “That's a nice... Uh... story. But, how does it end?"

To that, Tony's grin is set impossibly wide, “Bad habit of mine. Don't usually tell the end of my stories. Would spoil all the endings.” He laughs, finally admitting to the joke. “So, what's yours?”

>>
There's lots of stories we could do. I just want to do one of them so long as we make it just as, if not more, PG than creepyfuck's story was.

Nah, no need to delay it. Church story is probably more interesting.
>>
>>34264163
It'll probably keep the mood a little better if we tell him about how we stalked, seduced, and manipulated a mentally ill person that may or may not have died for our profit.
>>
>>34264163
The story about Camille would complement his story better.
>>
>>34264163
I'd prefer the Camille story
>>
>>34264163
I'm fine with either, so long as we don't give details that can really be used against us.

You take a seat, your eye still on the man as the nightly wind carries on. The crickets and the gentle crackle of the bonfire a subtle ambiance. You think for a moment, recalling your time at Choice Hills Baptist. Guy like this? He might like a story like that.
Hell, maybe saying it out loud can stifle some of the bad feelings coming from that memory.

“I'd been walking out in the desert for days. Came to a little town after having a vision.” You begin, and you can already see that you have his attention. His eyes watch you like glistening black coals, his dark hair casting his face in greater darkness.

“Go on friend, I'm listening.”

You nod slowly, “Vision told me to visit a priest in a church for a baptism. My friends at the time, a bad crowd thought it was a good idea. Something to take our minds off the heat and give ourselves something to do.
I was... very nervous about it you see. I didn't go to the service at first, went to wash my face, got distracted and left the water running after that.

Building started to flood but nobody noticed. Walking through those halls though? Like jesus walking on water.” You find yourself smiling a little at that part. You were very proud in that moment. But it's what comes next that evokes a morose cannonball of regret in the depths of your soul.
“I'd never much been a religious man, but this was a moment that I'd anticipated.. I'd been anxious for the moment to be reborn again...” You chew at the nail of your thumb at that bit of a lie, nodding slowly.

“When the time came though, and I went up to the altar, the place was flooded and everyone was looking at me. The priest was distraught at what I'd done. I ruined his church... But everyone was baptized. Yeah, just like that, everyone was baptized.” You look up at Tony, his interest absolutely maintained. “Everyone except for the priest.”

“Why's that friend?”

“Spoil the end.”

Tony smiles, “You and I. We're kind of alike, aren't we? More than William, hm?”

Not affording a response, you stay quiet. This is the face of a man that's a lunatic. With the Followers, you might've been a lot like this guy. A hell of a lot like this guy.
He's a perfectly functioning human being though right? But he never said that he killed anyone. He just... heavily implied that he offed some guy in his own house.

It's... Not really good to trust a man like that... Is it?

You feel a change in the air, Saphira stands and approaches the fire. Her blue mask turns a shade of dusky purple as she stares within the roaring flame. To each and everyone she says, “You've all had time to learn of one another.” Her harmonic voice rings like a siren enchanted by the power of the fire.
“Now it is time that you learn of us and decide how you will use your gifts.”

Walking around the fire, she looks to each and every single person, acknowledging them all one by one.
“We are shadows working beneath the scope of the world at large. With each our own methods at creating a utopia in the very near future. The Pillar of Malevolence, marked by the one in red, is Marcus Wyld. Through his flames, he would guide you to purge the corruption of society. Politicians, corporate hounds, fanatical terrorists, and warlords. His is the hand that will wash away their sins through bloodshed. A protector of the weak, the innocent, the just, and the ignorant.”

Saphira stops close to the fire, while Marcus steps up, patrolling around, acknowledging the faces that now know who he is, “Yes. My Pillar is violent Yet if that is not how you'd wish to change the world, then you may follow the Pillar of Benevolence. This woman, Saphira Sagewood would guide your power to the benefit of others rather than the purging of those that halt and control society. Though her way is not always love, at times it is subtlety, the removal and discredit of one that may otherwise be a martyr to the people.
Regardless of your personal choice, if you have neither the stomach nor the power in your being to murder others, I would reject you.

“Suppose I'll be introducing myself then.” Eloc steps up, looking proper and clean if not for the irritation marking his face at that of insects. “I am the Pillar of the Pragmatic and Charismatic. If I'm to abide by the standards of my associates' show. With me, we will exploit your power for profit, future technology, political maneuvering, and corporate takeover. While these two remove the competition and undermine disagreements in this great country of ours, My pillar is the one to fill every void that might come into being based on their action.
To note, we have indeed rescued you all to coerce you into this scandal. I'm something of a politician, but it's not too hard to read this situation.”

The three stand facing the fire, their eyes passing over the others beyond the flames. “The world is sick, and it's coming to a new age.” Marcus says, the distortion of his mask a crude growl.

“We are the cure.” The harmonics ring out from Saphira.

“We are Zeitgeist.” Eloc shrugs, his smile as persistent as it is casual.

Everyone seems to be silent, thinking over the whole thing. The first question rings out, “So, who were the people that captured us?”

Marcus is the one to answer. “Overwatch. They catch people of talent like ourselves and demand they fight in wars across the globe. They seek to maintain the status quo. We seek to destroy and rebuild.”

John stands up to say something sarcastic, “What's the pay?”

Eloc answers this one, “Virtually unlimited funding so long as it's approved through my resources. You'll never need another job in life.”

John scratches his chin at that, “Well strewth, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.” With a shrug, he's the first one to step forward.

Tony leaves your side, “Already made your choice, friend?”

“Pretty much.” You say, “Uh... You in?”

“Malevolence is my sort. Marcus seems like a nice fellow.” The man's statement isn't sarcastic, only you wish it was.

Marcus has been more or less an ass to you. You aren't quite sure which of them you'd pick though... But that weird chemistry between Marcus and Saphira... This leadership obviously has some degree of fraternization.

“I've got nowhere else to go, I'll join as well.” Elena follows after John, coming closer to the fire. You stay where you are. You're already committed.

“Do we get to play?” The girl with astral fox-ears runs over, without a second thought.

“I will be joining as well.” Gertrude walks up, at the pace of an old woman.

“Ahm... Obliged. Nowhere to go anyhow.” Roseanne steps up.

Others look on at those that've already fallen in, and eventually the only ones that aren't up there are you and the angsty brooding kid.

You raise up a hand, “I'm already committed.” And look to the kid, “He's a bit young though, huh?”

“Shut up!” The kid yells, “I- I'll cut the stupid off you're fucking face!”

He's louder than you'd expect, causing you to raise your hands in a patronizing defense, “Woah, woah there kid. I don't need any of that trouble. Bite off more than you can chew anyway.”

The kid springs up, “Yeah, you'd think that, wouldn't you?” his fist raised, a dark silver power forming at his fist. “I'm better than you, I have the Edge!” He throws out a fist, light fizzing out from his arm sparking like a sharpened blade.

Reflexively, you begin to snap your fingers. A scream rings out, “STOP!” And you halt you, a flash of flame divides you and the kid. In the next instance, Marcus has the kid by the throat, strangling him up in the air.
>>
>>34265784

“In the presence of Saphira, I do not permit violence.” Marcus drops him, and the kid scrambles back towards a tree holding his throat with tears staining his eyes.

“You tried to kill me!” He chokes out, hoarse from Marcus's grip. “You were actually going to kill me.”

“You lack discipline and control.” Marcus's hands burn with his Violet-red light, his bones obscured by not a raging, but a smoldering flame. In the next moment, as though to reinforce his point, he smothers the flame with a clenched fist.

“You doubt yourself and the things that you can do.” Saphira departs from the fire. You back off nearer to the others. Your hand trembles a little bit, mostly from rage.
Little prick. Little fucking prick.

“Strewth... Chum, Your eye's all lit up.” You hear John from around the crackle of the flame.

With a slow breath you calm down. Fighting didn't always feel like that. Fighting was easy. Snap of your fingers and that kid would've been dead. Part of you know that he deserves it but...

Saphira approaches the kid, holds his hands, talks to him, gets him to calm down. You can't really hear what she's saying but apparently it sounds good to the kid.
Eventually she called the fox-girl over to talk to him, they seem to share something of an aplogy and the kid finally walks over, his temper completely defused.

“Sorry for the way I was acting... Just realized that I'm really scared.”

Saphira stares at you expectantly, Marcus just behind her.

You stare the kid down, “We've all had bad weeks kid.” Your voice is strict and constrained to emphasize your anger. By Lucia does it feel good to be angry again. “But if you pull that shit again, I'm not going to let it go.”

Meekly, the kid bows under the pressure of Saphira and Marcus. The two of them give you a look of approval. You did alright you guess.
The night moves on with everyone hearing Zeitgeist's contract. You realize now that the Pillars that they'd mentioned earlier is effectively their mission statement. It's not much later either that you find that the reason everyone's out here isn't just for a recruiting drive, but to be taught how to hone and how their powers might best serve whichever Zeitgeist pillar that they fit into.

From the get-go, Saphira has everyone let themselves go into a state of meditation. Through words sje guides them through the journey of traveling inward to find their spirit animal, patron, or focus of their power.
You figure that Lucia might as well be yours...

I'd be fine with that, but I guess we'll burn that bridge once we get some LP to spend. It'd give us some extra use of it, and our Ice defenses would be pretty cheap to toss around after that.

While we're at it, we should think about Oaths we can apply to things like Aerokinesis, maybe Pyromancy, Geomancy, and Materia Firma. Getting burn reductions and power boosts on things is nice even if it doesn't add more versatility.

We have some thematic things to pull on from our relationship with Lucia, opposition to authority, indulgence, enlightenment.

“Touch the mirror and speak your name, ask for something that resembles you.”
At first, you watch the others. Their auras go steady, the baggage looming around them internalizing, slipping into the ether of their own souls. You get the feeling that it might get interesting if you keep watching, but you quickly find that It's quite easily like looking two ways at once.

You summon up the mirror, against the better judgement of saying “Asher,” you say “Faust.” In short term, the mirror, simple and chaste as it was initially constructed, quickly form for the better of baubles and doodads around the quickly forming and evolving frame. Eventually it produces steam and a darkness creeps over its surface.

“When the mirror changes, step through it.”

You touch the surface of the mirror. It's strangely cold, like iron. The surface is resistant, though it does have some give, if only barely.

Don't use brute force to go through it, we have Alchemy and Materia Firma, we just need to imagine magicking it to a form we can easily pass through.

Our Alchemy needs another rank up before it can effect things that aren't one of the 4 cardinal elements.

With a push and a shove, the darkness of the mirror shudders, slowly giving way like an iron gate as you pass through. The stress eventually sends tingle of electricity sailing through your palms.

“Greet the one in the realm that you have traveled to. They will be waiting for you.” Saphira's voice rings out into this world.

No. No, shit. She's moving on with the guidance and you're still not through yet. With a harder push, you ignore the pain and wield the power of your mana to force your way through, peeling back at the dark.

Once within, you find your body wracked with insurmountable pain, forcing you to fall to a messy floor covered to the brim in books and tables covered in dust. You fail to rise up from the phantom static pain. Your form trembles, threatening to send you back to your body, but you hang on.
For the moment you hang on with everything you have. A look up reveals an endless library as far as the eye can see, a chandelier hanging from far above, one of many lights that seem to cast lumen without electricity or flame/ But it's what lies upon the ceiling that bothers you.

An alchemical circle spans the entirety beyond that Chandelier with scratchings that you could barely tap into the surface understanding of. Looking on to that circle, you remain in awe to the point that your mind slips, forgetting the desire to stay. As though bounced, out, you find yourself opening your own eyes again, blinking in confusion.

What was that place?

Nora's contract:

>1. Do not try to eat or injure me, Asher, or any of those I designate as allies unless I explicitly inform you that they are no longer allies.
> 2. Current Zeitgeist are all designated allies by default. Individuals that clearly and deliberately move to kill or capture me through the use force lose ally designation
>3. Don't do tricks on the mundanes in ways which would place the blame on me or in ways which would lead to attempted retaliation against me.
>4. All Fae summoned by this summon will obey the previous rules.
>5. She must be no lower than rank 3.
'Followers' replaced with 'Zeitgeist'. Removed the rule dealing with awakenings and the paths and whatnot.

Not implemented in the changes I made, but I suggest that we somehow incorporate random overs into rule 3. As it is now, if Nora finds a randomass mage somewhere, she can go fuck with them and make it very obvious that Asher's responsible for it. Someone else write this one out, because I'm tired and don't want to deal with it.

I apologize for the edgymancer.

I thought the edgymancer was hilarious.

I loved Tony. He is the Shade Man, right? I suggested him if he was and it makes me feel all warm inside.

Asher's magical realm is cool.

Liked that Marcus finally acted like a little bit less of an ass.

thanks for running Dranzy

By saying 'Faust' instead of 'Asher', we just busted into the real Faust's place, didn't we.
>>

Also Edgymancer was hilarious.
Tony was perfect
Am I correct that we had difficulties going through the mirror because the alias is only a few hours old?
>>
>>34267003
She's not interested in screwing us like that, though, and nobody wants to spend three hours on contracts again.

Nora's contract thread was my favourite one.
>>
>>34267140
We can do this shit now and have Dran implement it between threads with a tiny part of the start of next thread acknowledging that the contract changed. If Nora says no to this shit, then we drop her as a summon because really it's nothing that we weren't doing with the previous contract.
>>

I don't know but it was great. We have to get back there.

I think the only question is how many different things will benefit from putting somebody inside it. Souls are weighty and strong, make good Alchemy.
>>
>>34267082
Hah. Was -NOT- paying attention.

But yah, There's a couple other characters in this group, and all the ones presented have their respective backstories.
Some are already pretty okay at magic(Tony).
Others are kind of shit and lucky to be alive. (Edgelord/Gertrude)
But they're gonna get so fuck'n baws if they live long enough.

Nora has some gripes:
She's annoyed that she hasn't really had any playtime.

Asher's also still too poor a summoner to summon her true form. She demands that he makes progressive to a state in which she can be summoned.
>All LIMIT points will need to go towards Adept Summoning
In return, she'll decrease drain by drawing from her own mana reserves and agree to the contract changes.
>>
>>34267501
I'm ok with this
>>
>>34267501
Does this include the change to 3 which disallows antagonizing randomass mages in a way that implicates Asher?

Dran, had some thoughts on possible cantrips based around the Knight spell
Toy Soldier
(Element:Any, Summoning+Materia Firma)
Use a known elementary spell compatible with Materia Firma to create a Thought Form of simple human design of chosen element. When fatal damage is sustained, the Toy Soldier will self destruct depending on core element (Fire-Explosion,Water/Ice-Area Freeze,Earth-Shrapnel Bomb, Air-Wind Blades)
Guard
(Element:Any, Summoning+Materia Firma)
Use a known elementary spell compatible with Materia Firma to create a programmable Thought Form of specialized design. Can vary from size and shape depending on purpose and while not as hardy as a Knight is capable of more complex actions than a Toy Soldier.
>>
>>34267501
Seems reasonable.
Am I mistaken or hasn't she made use of her ability to summon other fae yet?
>>
>>34267501
>demands we work on summoning
Finally, my time has come
>>
>>34267501
I'm alright with that, it'll just mean the first 4 Limit points we get go towards summoning, and it's a good skill to get up.

We should pick up a bit more of a menagerie now that we have some downtime. Maybe ask Lucia for some recommendations or referrals.

>We are forced to wait even longer before we can nuke shit with glorious Alchemy

It's not like I'm against summoning, but now it's effectively an 8 cost to get to the point I was all hype about and with the rate we get LIMIT points, it's going to take months of real time to get there.
>>
>>34267599
Dranzy has a list of potential summons he's seemingly not willing to share with us
>>
>>34267501
>Demands to have us work on summoning

Goddamn it. Nora if you weren't actually good I would be pretty pissed.
>>
>>34267537
Very interesting. Adding.

>>34267560
She used it back in Vegas. You'll be hearing about Vegas/Pahrump, and more detail on the state of the world next thread.

>>34267656
Part of the issue as that you're still not really able to summon named mythos as of yet.
>>
>>34267683
The good news is that we had to level up Summoning anyway before we could get into some serious body alteration, didn't we? In addition to Alchemy, that is.
>>
>>34267715
>She used it back in Vegas. You'll be hearing about Vegas/Pahrump, and more detail on the state of the world next thread.
That will be fun.
>>
>>34267720
Yeah, we do need both of them together for our plans

The thing people are miffed about is that Alchemy has busted strong potential all on its own while Summoning really doesn't.

Adept Alchemy can turn a paper clip into a nuke. Adept Summoning can summon Nora in a slightly more powerful form.

Woop de doo.
>>
>>34267715
>Part of the issue as that you're still not really able to summon named mythos as of yet.
Did we need adept or master for it?
You should add that to the pastebin
>>
>>34267779
I think that people vastly overestimate what we would be able to do with alchemy.
Turning mass into energy is a realy bad idea
>>
>>34267824
People talk about Alchemy like it's hot shit because it actually is a big deal. That said, Nora's pretty high ranking among Fae, isn't she? I think that was implied.
>>
>>34267851
Also all our summons get stronger and we get access to named ones.
That should also allow for not that nice heroes right?
>>
>>34267824
Alchemy nukes already confirmed for doable.
>>
>>34267884
Doesn't change the fact that we will blow ourself up if it needs visual contact
>>
>>34267927
Do you even magic engineering? We have Summoning. That allows us to program spells.
>>
>>34267952
that "in theory" sounds fishy.
>>
Does anyone else wonder how Shademan got his astral vision?
>>
>>34267966
Ok, then set up an anti-nuke shield styled after our Knight cantrip to take incoming energy and turn it into water, then divert it harmlessly around Asher. Or obtain visual contact through a scout summon. Should be trivial once we get up to higher ranks since we were sorta doing it with raven thoughtforms ever since Novice. Or make an Alchemist thoughtform and have it cast the spell while Asher is way the fuck away somewhere else.

I think you're really underestimating just how bullshit this setting gets. I was asking Dran on his Ask.fm if high-tier Pyromancy can compete with an alchemist spam transmuting up vats of ANTIMATTER and the answer is yes.
>>
>>34268040

read as
>Shadman

Its official, in my headcannon I will now imagine that he constantly draws awesome porn and is actually Shadman inserted into the world by Dranzy.
>>
>>34268087
>anti-nuke shield styled after our Knight cantrip to take incoming energy and turn it into water
So will this kill us by aneurism, drowning while unconscious, or radiation poisoning?
>>
>>34268161
Probably the aneurism. That's not exactly a solution to use at Adept rank, but I'd be willing to bank on it working at master.

Since we'll likely never actually get hydro up to Adept for a very, very long time, what do people think about an Oath of Selfishness for it?

>Improves regenerative abilities of hydro, but disallows use on any human who is not Asher.
>>
This might have been asked before, but what did you have planned if we were a Vein? Could we have been an Eva? Or Bone, but that's not as cool and didn't get any votes anyway.
