There's a light groan coming from the side of the table, Camille smiles and continues,
"A year or so ago, the person I was training under decided to go on some kind of 'spiritual journey', or something, she has always been a little crazy. When that happened, I had to pick up her slack and leave someone here to tend the shrine. Keiko was next to inherit the shrine, but she's way too young to be left out here all by herself. So I pulled a few favors and convinced Atsuko to do it instead."

"When ye say, 'Pulled a few favors', what do ye mean exactly?"
She giggles, "I asked her mother if she would convince her to do it. I've been friends with Atsuko for a while, and I knew she wouldn't want to do it."

Atsuko lazily sits up, slumping over the table. Her head hits the top of it with a thunk.

Keiko hastily stands up and tries to put the cloth back onto her head.

You laugh, "Aye Lass! This sounds like a win/win situation for the both of us!"
Your hand reaches over and starts petting Keiko's green silky hair.
"Though, I do feel for the little one here, having to put up with you all day." Your fingers run over her scalp, tracing along the base of her ears. She giggles softly as she tries to focus on her task of cooling the other girl's head.

Atsuko musters a lazy response to this, "..Don't let him touch you, you don't know where those hands have been." Keiko squeaks and shuffles slightly out of your reach. Camille laughs at this display as she readies another cup of sugar for herself.

She thinks about that sentence for a few minutes.

She sighs with a giggle.
"Demons, they're a pretty serious problem. Has anyone explained to you what the 'barrier' is yet?"
"The Fritelli woman did, apparently it's like some kind of shield over the soul."
"Eh, close enough. The thing to remember is that damage to the soul works both ways. Because our body and souls are shielded, they are also very weak and fragile when the barrier is taken away. Summoned Heroes like yourself don't have that problem, because you spent most of your life without the assistance of the barrier anyway. You're hardened in both body and soul that way."

She speeds the bird up into a light trot. Her tail is now hitting your face with more force, you wrestle with it briefly before moving it out of your nose.
"Demons around here usually form when minor gods of the land become corrupted. Have you seen a minor god before?"
She runs up to a riverbank, and then stops. She points a short ways up stream to the outline of some creatures sitting by the bank.

"Err, What's 'corruption', how does something become 'corrupted'?"

"That's the terrifying part, no one knows! It could be a number of strange things that cause it. But the point is, when one of them becomes corrupted they tend to run off and try to find some place where the barrier is weakened. Which only makes the problem worse. We don't know why they decide to do that, but it accelerates their illness until they become a demon."

She starts the bird back on the path toward the castle, "And when that happens, well, there's only a few things we can do to fix it."
"So, Lass, do you know special tricks for fighting them? Silver bullets? Wooden Stakes? Maybe how to fetch?"
She laughs and wists her tail in your face, you fumble with it wildly before grabbing a hold of it again.

"Eh, I know a few things. Like spells, and charms, but I find the best way is always the easiest way."

She lifts up her strange coverings with her fluffy tail, revealing the top of her green panties, her lower back, and two hammer-like implements strapped her back.
"Priestesses in this region are required by code to carry appropriate weaponry, in case they need to some emergency exorcism. I have these, Atsuko has a set of Axes, even Keiko has a set of picks she keeps hidden."
She laughs, "Though I don't know if Atsuko makes her wear them. I don't think anyone ever tried to train her with those things."

Yeow, you're suddenly very aware that the green child and the ice vixen may have been able to slice you to ribbons in an instant.

Some of the guards seem pre-occupied with an entourage of carriages and some more ornately decorated birds standing around outside of the entrance. You can see the head maid, Alicot, dashing around outside as she greets carriages and helps people out of them.

"Oh right, Aligot was telling me about that last night, there was some kind of meeting today. No doubt a bunch of brown-nosers coming over to pretend to care about Biscotti and her problems so they can get into her panties."

One particular carriage, that looks to be sleeked in gold, pulls up to the castle gate. Alicot immediately bursts into a huge, goofy grin when she sees who is inside. She starts chatting wildly with the occupants.

A rabbit-eared girl draped in an ornate dress, who looks to be much younger than most of the populace you've encountered so far, gracefully steps from the carriage. She carrys some clothes and baggage in one hand, and waves of dress in the other.

You can hear the passenger in front of you scoff, "Ugh, let me give you a hint Jack, Women like that? They're probably completely insane. I bet she's some kind of sexual deviant."
"Aye'm not sure what the issue with that is." This response evokes a muffled laugh from her.

Then, Alicot stops and assists another passenger who was sitting with her. This one, however, is very clearly lacking any sort of rabbit ears.

The first thing this passenger passes out to the maids is a long pole with some kind of sheathed knife on one end of it. Certainly not like any weapons you've used before, but you've seen spear and halberds on occasion used by soldiers.

As the maid grabs this passenger's hand and assists them out of the carriage, you notice something.

The lady with the flowery wrapping elegantly steps out of the carriage and bows to the maid before taking her polearm back. They talk briefly and she does another short bow as the carriage pulls away. She's standing with several other passengers and Alicot as they all chat just outside the castle gate.

You both walk by the assorted crowd with caution, to not disturb any of them. They keep chatting in their own little worlds as the black-haired girl with the polearm continues to admire the scenery.

Suddenly, her head turns around, your eyes meet. You didn't really notice before, but through her hair, she very clearly has your conical ears on both sides of her head. You wave idly at her as you pass by, she continues to stare at you for some time before you round the corner toward the stables.

You don't really care about that stuff, though. Now it's sword and gun time! You and Camille walk down the hallway to the Armory just in time to see Fritelli and Aligot talking outside the large steel door.
