Transformers Quest 12: Fire It Up

A brilliant white figure floats before you. Solid white with silvered hands and feet, his form was all soft angles. Great curving wings jut from his back and you can see the hilt of his ancient Cybertronian greatsword rising over his head. Once one of the most famous Transformers alive, Blancorvus had been a super hero to the population of Cybertron. Fast, skilled and well liked he had been selected as Arbiter by the Senate. Performing daring raids on terrorist cells, engaging in public duels with Straxus of Darkmount, the self-styled Lord High Governor and Last of the True Decepticons, and stopping petty crimes the world over if he was ever near. Posters and propaganda had born his name and likeness. To the Sentries of Cybertron he had been either a superstar or what some had called ornamental justice.

You had never cared for celebrities.

Toxic green clouds roll overhead. The acrid smell of chemical fires waft up from below. A city ravaged by battle stretches out into the horizon. To your left and right lies a road littered with wreckage, pierced through by a massive metal beast that had passed you by.

The sound of thunder slowly ebbs away.

Blancorvus smiles.

"Care to introduce yourselves?" he asks.

"People usually introduce themselves before asking others." you say while brush debris off of yourself. Gyro hops down from the partition she was crouched on and you see Drive-By helpinh Copper to his feet.

"True!" he says with a chuckle. Gliding closer lowers himself untill he is barely above the ground and bows. "I am Blancorvus, Arbiter of Cybertron."

"Kracken" you say.

"I'm Gyro." Your friend says. "And who the heck did you say that was?" She asks and points down the road the red behemoth had travelled.

He simpers ."Carnage. Don't mind him though, he tends to get tunnel vision when something pings on his scanners."

Placing his hands on his hip he looks your group over, glancing behind to see the others poking their heads over the partition wall.

"Quite a motley crew wouldn't you say? Shouldn't expect different from Uraya though. Can't blame you for leaving! Where are you all off to then?" he asks and examines you intently.

Marginally related, I'm playing through war for cybertron and there's a scene where a decepticon dodges being crushed by the ceiling and excitedly yells 'I'm still functional!' only to be smashed by a second ceiling trap.

Megatron's "/idiot/" is just perfect afterwards.

"Anywhere but here." You say.

He hmms at that and raises an opticbrow.

"Just running around then?"

You shrug dismissively. "We weren't going to stay out there."

"Right right." His smile returns.

"What's your business down in Uraya? You said something about dark energon."

"Yes! Right," he claps his hands together, "See me and my companion are roaming around trying to extract and contain the stuff. Cybertron can't be repaired with it infecting everything."

"And there was some in Uraya?"

"Oh there's some everywhere. Nasty stuff."

You hmm and nod.

He looked like he was being upfront and honest, and that was his usual behavior from what you knew, but he didn't seem to recognize your group from the sub-levels and the meeting seemed... coincidental.

"You would probably know better than anyone, is Cybertron really dying?" you ask.

Drifting just above ground he seems to deflate somewhat.

"Well that is the official story. City after city is going dark. But! I've had word from my employers that it's just rebooting, though it will take awhile."

"What's everyone supposed to do in the meantime?" Gyro asks from next to you. Her arms are crossed and optics scrutinizing Blancorvus.

"Well everyone is going to have to leave. See, Chief Justice Tyrest and the last living members of the Senate have ruled that Cybertron will be off-limits once it completely shuts down. Not that anyone will want to traipse around on it once the atmosphere is gone."

She scoffs. "So what they're just gonna round everyone up and ship them off somewhere?"

"Maybe." He says, his grin back. "Dromadon, Opulon, and Floron III are still safe. Lithone and Odessyx have remained neutral as well. Chief justice Tyrest and the Senate are on Omnitron and that is where the bulk of the Senates' forces are as well. Go where ever you please! There is a whole galaxy out there."

"The Autobots and Decepticon, what are they doing?" You ask.

"Fighting." Hes says with a shrug.

Gyro throws her hands up and walks past Copper and Drive-By, back to the group waiting on the other side of the partition.

You growl lowly. "We need to get going. There's a ship waiting for us." You nod politely to the Arbiter and turn away.

"Right, do be careful. I've been informed a Decepticon warship is inbound. Someone has really riled them up."

You half turn back just in time to see him transform and fly off.

You growl again. Activating your commlink you relay the news to the others.

Before you make it back to the group you haer another message over the comm.

"Incoming! Another group coming from the rear!"

You punch the side of a transport.

"Everyone get moving, quick!" You bellow.

Running up and vaulting the partition you hop on dasher and the group takes off. Everyone who ca activates their turbo boosters and rocket along the ground at breakneck speeds.

You race along for a few kilometers before Arclight calls from her position on top of Copper in the back.

"Kracken sir, there are ten or so cars coming fast. There's this bright yellow race car in the front of 'em!"

"Slag, that's Dragstrip." Dust says over the comm.

"THE Dragstrip!?" Dasher says underneath you.

"Who?" You ask.

"He's one of the greatest racers EVER! Over six thou..."

"He's on of Motormasters' lieutenants." Dust cut her off. "Cruel and fast."

"So we probably can't out run him." You grumble.

"Well ah know ah can't." Copper says.

"Primus that guy is moving!" You hear Arclight exclaim.

>Everyone keep moving, we'll blast him when he gets close.
>I'll take a few volunteers back to get rid of them. (who)

There is a lurch under you. Dasher turns her momentum into a slide then pops up on one side to pass those behind her. You find yourself clinging on for dear life. Once clear she comes back down and wobbles a bit as her balance stabilizes. You look behind you and see Gyro coming down from doing the same.

Up ahead you see a yellow car racing ever closer.

>You know I feel like I should have ran more combat this week since it was shark week.

Gyro and Dasher charge along the dark grey road side by side. Gyro , an angular, wedge shaped brown vehicle, her hull all bars smooth planes of metal. Dasher was more oblong and slightly more compact. She had a large jet turbine on the back and her surface was a blue with an orange racing strip.

You crouch low on Dashers' hull, optics narrowed and mouth set in a snarl.

As he gets closer you see Dragstrip, a long and sleek yellow race car. Low to the ground with a large fin on the back.

When you get close enough he opens fire with a pair of guns that emerge from his headlights.

Dasher and Gyro bank left to right and avoid most of the shots, you can do little else then hang on.

Once he gets close enough you transform with a roar. Tentacles fan out around and underneath you, coiling to launch you at your foe.

Launching yourself like a spring-loaded jack-in-the-box of teeth and hate you slam into the 'Con.

Latching on to the base of his racing fin your tentacles scoop under his hull and your momentum carries you onward. The two of you flip and somersault into the beige partition.

You lose your hold on him with your tentacles, but not with your teeth. The fin comes away in your mouth and he flips up and almost clears the partition.

Instead the fast thinking racer transforms in the air, kicks off the wall and pull his gun on you.

>Energon Reserve-78/171

Nodding to Gyro, who has a slightly disgusted look on her face, you climb back on Dasher.

Gyro transforms and the three of you race off after your companion. Seconds later the first of the Decepticons catch up with their leader.

You hear a dull, wet crump from behind.

Below you Dasher laughs.

Eventually, after Gyro and Dasher burn through multiple turbos, you catch up to Copper. You see the small tank driving along with the large green form of Arclight sitting on top. She has the energon converter held under one arm and a pistol held awkwardly in her other hand. She waves it at you.

"How was th'dance?" Copper asks.

""I think we dazzled them." Gyro jokes.

The three of you decide to hang put in the back in case any 'Cons catch up, but thankfully kilometer after kilometer passes without incident.

Driving down the maintenance road between the two five lane roads of the Tri-Torus Loop you pass kilometers of rubbish and wreckage. The sky is still an ugly green, but the further you move the thinner it gets.

Eventually you reach the city-state limits and in the distance you can see where the noxious clouds end.

You are pleased at the groups' progress, mostly because large beams of energy had begun to rain on the city much like the acid of yesterday.

The Tri-Torus takes the convoy over an open bay of the Rust Sea. The sky takes on a reddish quality from fine specks of rust blowing up into the air.

Above you the clouds begin to break.

The amount of wreckage on the roads diminishes and, save for a few gargantuan transports, is mostly clear.

The faster members of the group, Gyro, Dasher and a few others, move onto the other sides of the partition. They speed along the roads, avoiding any wreckage they come across. Dasher takes you over a few jumps which has cursing her construction.

Arranged in the bay are various shipping docks. Ships designed to trawl the rusty depths sit in their moors, unused.

Along the way Dust tells you that her comms are full of reports of fights with Wreckers, Monsterbots, and some new group called Dinobots. Apparently Shockwave was directing more forces to the city. An investigation into the attacks you had preformed was underway but no one knew what had happened other than a report of someone taking down Dragstrip on the Tri-Torus. The 'Cons didn't have enough troops to spar it an investigation though.

More distressing was the news you received from Gyros' friends. More Terrorcons had shown up, and some big Transformer you guess is Carnage was attacking them and they were entering a frenzy.

"They're getting antsy," Gyro says, "If any of the Terrorcons get near the ship they said they're gonna scram."

You mutter something about cybersnake oil dealers too low for her to hear.

The Loop dips low and after traveling down to sea level the group comes to a halt. Stretching before the is an old and rusted looking city, if it could be called that, all warehouses and control towers. It looks even more unclean then Uraya did.

On one side the Rust Sea stretches out to the horizon. Its waves of fine rust particles flat and calm.

Everyone transforms to stretch their limbs.

"Alright so Cogsworth says his ship is in a submarine pen roughly a hundred kilometers up the coast and twenty inland, it's connected to the sea by an underground tunnel. The place looks like a warehouse, number LX-32." Gyro says.

"We should go looking through those warehouses." Quarry muses. "Could find something.

You scratch the back of your head. "Why don't you all move through the city, see if you can find anything but stay close. Keep tabs on one another."

"Where are you gonna go?" Quarry asks.

"Going to take a dip, see if I can find this tunnel to the sub pen. Keep in touch." You take a running dive into the sea before anyone says anything otherwise. Once submerged you transform.

Your tentacles ripple around you, propelling you forward through the red depths. There is no visibility but the tightly packed metal particles transmit sound and electromagnetic fields well enough for your alts' senses to guide you. Despite the flat looking surface there proves to be many currents moving the rust dust about like liquid.

You swim along the coastal edge. There is no gradual incline, only a long drop where the sea meets the shore. You locate various pipes and tunnels along the shore wall.

Small mechanical lifeforms flit around you, and every once and a while something big gets close enough for you to detect but moves on without any fuss. Along the wall is millennia of compacted junk.

You detect several energy signatures coming from some pipes, as well as a large electromagnetic field out into the sea as you weave between dock supports.

Not wanting to go to far of course you swim closer to the wall. Crusted with eons of junk and debris, it looks like a vertical junkyard.

Examining it you encounter wharf eels and cancrabs, along with various other lifeforms.

Gliding along next to the wall you pry bits of junk off and toss them into the deeps. You find little at first, though you manage to cram a cancrab and eel into your maw.

In the distance it feels like the electromagnetic field is moving.

>Energon Reserve-85/171

You eventually come across a small locker with a faint energy signature coming from within. You tear it from the wall and coil a tentacle around it.

Continuing your search you come across a great rent in the junk, like something had raked through it. A little ways away you find another, the crevasse going down to the smooth metal of the original wall.

You also locate what seems like a small ship lodged in the wall.

Reaching the ship you tear the door off and climb inside. The entire thing is full of rust.

Broken screens cover the walls and cables drift slowly in the rust dust.

Rummaging through various lockers you find a few broken guns and tools. Luckily in one you find a medkit.

As you rifle through the ship you feel vibrations running through it, like repeated impacts on the wall outside.

Suddenly the whole ship lurches.

You bounce around inside the ship, smashing into walls, unable to brace yourself. The medkit is flung from your grasp and sucked out the open doorway. In moments you are too.

Tumbling through a tremulous current you struggle to get your barrings. As you do you catch a glimpse of something massive clinging to the wall below you.

Long and slender, with a number of crab-like limbs and claws, your not sure what it is. It is emitting the electromagnetic signature you were detecting earlier.

To your side, a ways away, the medkit tumbles downward.

Swimming as fast as you can you grab the medkit before it gets to far away. Coiling it in a tentacle and holding it next to the locker behind you you turn towards the behemoth and snarl at it.

It doesn't seem to notice you for a moment, too busy cracking the ship open. It brings the open side of the ship up to its front section and you hear a horrible grinding noise.

Then it fires a pair of harpoons at you.

The harpoons whiz through the rust towards you, to fast to follow. You manage to avoid one of the barbed rods but the other pierces a tentacle.

Jesus titty dancing fuck. We're so inept in the ocean we'd probably drown before we won this.

Teleport as far as we can, and then use that medkit.

Also mark down it's general location. We might be able to lure some enemies into it later on if stuff goes down as badly as it did here.

You struggle on the line. Pulling one way, then the other you get no distance. The aquatic behemoth reels you ever closer and discards the ship remains.

Not wanting to be used as fuel you pull yourself along the harpoon and snip the line. More harpoons flash towards you but you are no longer there.

A -zzap- brings you out of range of its harpoons but not the howl that reverberates through the rust dust.

That thing was clearly mad.

It's a walker, so the surface offers no safety, and we're taking a stat hit due to our low hp, so it'll probably outrun us. Time to scurry into a hole too small for it to follow.

As quick as you can you swim to an open pipe. The gate that had blocked it had been lost long ago and it was easily wide enough for you.

Climbing in and crawling down the pipe you travel about a hundred meters before it turns down at an angle. When you reach the downward turn you feel a thunderous vibration as the behemoth slams into the wall outside.

With no other choice you move further down the pipe into the waiting darkness.

Gonna call it there for tonight dudes. Thanks for joining me.

Question, comments, concerns all welcome.

As a bonus, since everyone was talking about upgrading martial arts when the time comes I've been fleshing out some disciplines Kracken may have trained in.

Tahtib-tron- the art of using a pair of batons, each with a single effect like stun, burning, freezing and the like.

Laser Lathi- the art of using a staff with energy blades on the tips. High defensive/offensive capabilities.

Metallikato- the art of the sword. High damage plus a single weapon effect.

Circuit-Su- crazy spiritual wuxia shit. No weapons but abilities that use energon for funky shit.

Kracken also knows Diffusion and Crystalocution retroactively as those feel like standard Sentry martial arts.
>>
>>34177857
Thanks for running.

And circuit-su sounds good to me. It'd further contrast kraken's alt and basic forms.

Thanks for the fun.

I was in the process of planning my own Transformers Quest when I found yours. Do you mind if I use your rule set for it, or would that be stepping on your toes too much?

Sounds great. We could have one of our tentacles modified to produce a sword, like Ivy's from SoulCaliber.

Thanks!

Now I just gotta figure out what racial benefit of choosing a Lithone is. A 'head full of extra sensors' doesn't seem grand enough next to a Junkion's scrap-to-health and a Cybertronian's Triple-Changer ability.

>They could have a bonus for science and technology as well.
I've gone with
>Lithone receive bonuses to their intelligence, plus a boost to agility if their size is small or a boost to their perception if their size is medium.

Next is the Mutant, who has no transformation. Combat king, stupid otherwise.

I think Cybertronian, Lithone, Junkion, and Mutant are a large enough pool to pick from.

Were there any other robot species that might make for a good class to play as?
>>
>>34178349
Lets see...

You got:
Terrodores and Ammonites, who totally not Autobots or Decepticon, or Cybertronians at all even though they really are the same damn thing.

Destructon and Logicons, another race of divided mechanical beings who are totally not Cybertronians (I'm planning to have a Destructon show up as a secondary character later on)

Quintessons count I guess?

and well whatever the heck you find here http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Category:Generation_1_species
