LAST EPISODE: You talked about PAGAN rites, and admired a P-COC display.
- - -

Koko, the P-COC registry clerk, gets out a small novelty snowglobe. It's a cheap one you can get in the gift store of the Tokyo Tower. There's the tower itself among all the little flakes. She flicks a switch and a little light turns on in the snow globe. It's blue.

"All you need to do, is to change the color of this light from blue, to green, then to red, and then black to blue. You can't let go of the snow globe." Koko says. "Who wants to try first?"

Well, there's NO way you can do this. You have no idea about Sachiko either, who also looks clueless.

"I'll go first." You say. Might as well get it over with. You hold onto the globe and close your eyes and focus, and then relax. Nothing. Of course.

"That's okay." Koko says. "Different talent for different folks. Your turn!" She says to Sachiko.

Sachiko takes the snow globe and stares at it. Then she concentrates.

>Do nothing and see if anything happens.
Sink or swim time for Sachiko.
>>
And remember, trying to go middle-road screwed us over during the Sachiko side-quest.
>>
>>34139675
Take her other hand. Because why not?
>>
>>34139943
Because it tells Sachiko that her powers are weak an ineffective unless she depends on a Ghostbuster to help her. And it WILL affect her, because Star has a heightened PKE signature as an active Ghostbuster who interacts with ghosts on a daily basis.
>>
>>34139981
i agree with this shlub. let scotch-tape do it on her own.
>>
I guess take her hand? We're assumed to be a couple, and I don't know how it could hurt.

Not really a fan of this choice though, it's too vague. Like does taking Sachiko's hand indicate we don't believe in her?
>>
>>34140054
>and I don't know how it could hurt.
This is how it could hurt >>34139981
And yes, it would indicate that we don't believe in her. Because, you know, Star knows about her own heightened PKE signature, so it causing some interference, maybe boosting Sachiko's powers, would occur to her.
This isn't just about passing or not passing the tests, it's about whether Sachiko is able to do things on her own or not, since she now knows that her magic works.
>>
>>34139675
So, here's what we want to do. Get to the legal documents, read through as much as we can to stall, and try to keep them as we leave. Don't obfuscate Sachiko's power, if anything, enhance it. Ask her if we should help, then help her as she wants.
>>
>>34139675
>>34140143
So, basically,
> Ask her what she wants
> Hold her hand if it will boost her power
>>
>>34140139
Alright then, let's not hold her hand.

I agree with your logic but I don't know if the QM does. Let's find out I guess.
>>
>>34140143
Hopefully Sato will save us with the Fire Drill, should be happening any minute now
>>
I figured out what the previous session did. Sachiko's abilities are starting up, and are related to her confidence. So stepping on her for will interrupt and attempt to disrupt her abilities. The alternative is going loud and exposing what us going on.
>>
>>34140143
I really hope there's not some compulsion spell to make people sign the contract, but given that no one else seems to have had suspicions I'm not so sure.
>>
>>34140282
We can read through all the legal documents to stall. Getting a copy in-fact is a great idea.
>>
>>34140338
But didn't we already damage Sachiko's confidence by having our metagaming ruin the first test, which I'm still mad about, and Star did all the work on test two?

We might, have already fucked up too much.

That was a d4. Three was the best number to get.
>>
>>34140489
(Lucky 3 time!)

Star's eyes shoot up as the snow globe not only changes colors exactly how Koko asked them to change, but the snow in the globe starts to swirl around the little Tokyo tower.

Sachiko has her eyes closed while this is going on. When she opens them she lets out a small gasp and drops the globe onto the table. The light goes back to being blue and the snow settles.

"How...?" Sachiko looks at the globe and then looks at Star.

Star shakes her head.

Sachiko looks back at the snow globe. "Huh."

Koko's pencil is scratching inside that red folder of hers. She nods and then looks up at the two girls, all smiles. "Well, I must say that congratulations are in order! Welcome to the P-COC Tokyo Registry girls, you'll be ranked as Class A. Sorry that you couldn't make Class S." She gestures to the door. "But believe me, you're still in a VERY exclusive group. There's going to be a LOT of work, money, and respect in your futures!"

"Umm...okay. That's...good." Sachiko says.

Koko blinks. She's a little thrown off at how un-estactic the girls are. She makes a small text on her phone. "I'm having the paperwork sent up to us." She drums her fingers. "While we wait, could you indulge me in a little fun?"

"Fun?" Star asks.

"Something to pass the time. It won't take long." Koko gets out a piece of paper and...draws a tic-tac-toe grid on it. "I assume you know the game."

"Uhh, yeah." Sachiko says.

"Good! Now. I'll go first, then you go, and then I'll go, and then you go." Koko says, pointing to Sachiko and then Star.

"Okay." Sachiko says.

"Alright!" Koko says.

She makes an X in the center-left square.

Sachiko makes a O in the center square.

Koko makes an X...in the upper-left corner. What?

Star's turn.

Amazing how even a simple game of Tic-Tac-Toe in this quest makes my heart flutter if there's something else I should be seeing here.

Of course, the only options now are

-putting an O in the lower left corner, and following till a draw unless she forfeits

-forfeiting by losing on purpose

-stop playing?

Make an O in the lower-left corner.

This game is already over, though. No one can win.

A game for children?

You make an O in the lower left corner.

Koko makes an X...in the lower center square?

Sachiko makes an O in the upper right corner and draws a line.

"Ah!" Koko says. "You two have defeated me and all my forces! Let no one question it." She giggles. "Thank you. I know it's silly but we civil servants get SO little time to just relax."

"No problem." Sachiko says, giving you a shrug of confusion.

"Anyway, here's Toshi with the papers." She nods at a man you see through the glass, approaching your office. He has another Red Leather folder.

The door opens. "Hello." Toshi says. "I hear we've got two new A ranks, congratulations!"

The fire alarm goes off.

All four people in the room look up.

"Someone must have put their lunch in the toaster too long." Koko says. "Sorry about that. They'll probably turn it off in a few moments. Now..." Toshi opens his folder and lays it on the table.

One side has the contract, it's one page. The other side has two long vertical strips of black paper. Koko puts two red, ball-point, pens in front of each of you.

"Go ahead and read through the contract. Then sign your names, in kanji, on the other side. One name per piece of paper. Take your time." Koko says. "And again, don't worry about the smoke alarm."

You and Sachiko look at the contract. It's...well it's very simple. One page. No small print. It's in Legalese but not completely unintelligible. You think.

First blush of the contract says that you will be on the registry, and that you will continue to uphold the traditions and ways of the organization you represent. You will serve the nation of Japan to your best ability, and that you won't commit any crimes, or you'll be booted off the registry.

It seems perfectly legit.

Though I feel like it might be a good idea to try and leave now, since the alarm bell ringing was the result of a good roll.

If anything Star, though not Saichiko, can claim a previous experience with fire and not listening to alarms and leave.
>>
>>34141651
> Ask a question about the contact (Write your own)
Ask about the "organization we represent" part. Which organizations are that? We never said what organization Star belongs to; it would be hilarious for us if the contract magically bonds us to being a Ghostbuster and fucking them over.
>>
>>34141808
> This isn't a bureaucracy, this is some sort of weird cult.
But it makes sense for the PCOC to be so intrinsically tied to all things mythical and religious about japan.

Unfortunately that's metagaming. In character, everything is fine.

I don't think we have a good reason to want to leave at this point, which makes the reason for that roll hard to discern.

This whole situation stinks, because the only way,to avoid metagaming is to ensnare ourselves
>>
>>34141651
Threes are important here. Agreed to come here three times, three marks and a person's forces are completely defeated, and a signature on three pieces of paper. Black vertical strips of paper is just fucking weird, too.
>>
>>34141914
A bureaucratic organization is playing weird games, not making us wait in a line with a bunch of other people, and is giving us a document to sign that appears initially simple. They are ignoring fire code regulations!

What about this seems fine to you, and why wouldn't Star notice this?
>>
>>34141953
>A bureaucratic organization is playing weird games
Psyker tests, really that's like one of the first things in the 1st ghostbuster movie that Peter Venkmen did, it's actually impressive they managed to make a system out of it

>not making us wait in a line with a bunch of other people
Didn't we already? We waited for our number to be called.

> and is giving us a document to sign that appears initially simple
This ought not to be an indicator of anything

>They are ignoring fire code regulations!
We and the PCOC have a history of ignoring certain regulations, but I agree with that point.
>>
>>34141909
Really I'm not sure why we can't do both.

It'd be suspicious if they tried to rush or threaten us.
>>
>>34141651
> Make a fuss about the fire alarm.
They're ignoring the fire code, playing weird games to pass the time, and the document they want us to sign is simple and refers to things they aren't showing us, with language that is obscure.
>>
>>34142003
>Didn't we already? We waited for our number to be called.
In the manner of most pubic service organizations. In a stressful area, and done in a piss-poor manner.
>This ought not to be an indicator of anything
It's a small thing, but multiple small discrepancies lead to bigger things that are wrong.

"What exactly does it mean to serve the nation of Japan? The language is a little murky." Star asks.

"It means..." Koko says over the fire alarm. "Hold on, Toshi, close the door."

Toshi closes the door and the alarm gets a little softer.

"It means that you will follow the wishes of the Emperor, State Shinto, the Diet, and the local laws and ordinances. The P-COC organization is actually last on that list. We understand that in your line of work there's often need for flexibility. If you belonged to another organization, like the Catholic Church, they'd also be there, right after the Emperor." Koko waves her hands. "It just means don't break the law, and if P-COC gives you a job, you're expected to do it. If you don't, you don't get paid. Also, you don't have to listen to P-COC if you get orders from another superior."

"What?" Star says. "We have to leave!"

"SIGN FIRST!" Koko snaps. "Please...I mean...you have my word that we can go over the contact item by item later and renegotiate if you'd like, but I need your signature. NOW...please." She says.

You can see her knuckles are white as she's gripping the table so hard.

It's a better idea on paper than it is in practice. There's no chance of getting burned or scalded, since it's just a magazine and a tacky couch seat that's actually on fire...but the smoke gets in your eyes, makes it hard to breathe, and near impossible to see.

You hear footsteps, but their far away and slowing. The smoke is hiding your presence a bit, and again, P-COC staff really don't like fire.

Sachiko is coughing and holding onto your arm as guidance.

You know there's another staircase on the other side of this area. You get to there, without being caught or pursued and you're all but home free.

"There you are!" Star hears Koko yell and there's a feeling of something grabbing her leg.

> You're almost there. All it'll take is a bit of a struggle and you're sure you'll be able to break free.
> Toss Sachiko the folder and make sure that she gets away. Make sure that this isn't a total loss.
> Kick hard with your leg and pull Koko into the smoke with you with the intention of violence. If you hand the folder to Sachiko BEFORE doing this, you'll lose your moment of vulnerability on Koko and she'll have a firm grasp on you. So it's give up the folder, or fight Koko, can't do both.

>I don't see why one for of pictures would be different than another.
It's because the technology behind the two are completely different (aside from the lenses).
Film photography is made by allowing light (and PKE) to directly fall onto a chemical film that reacts with the energy that falls upon it.
A digital camera has CCD and CMOS sensor chips that create a digital file from detected photons.

It's be a different story if the digital camera had PKE sensor chips to go along with the CCD chip.

The third option makes it sound like our options are:

You try to pull free of the grip that's around your leg, but all you manage to do is drag yourself forward a few more inches.

Also, Koko has come into the smoke. She's hacking and coughing worse than you are actually. She's wheezing for breath...but she can see you.

And you can see her. She's not human. She's...a plant?

Open flowers are where her eyes eye, her skin is a mass of branches, bark, and moss. Her hair is a mass of what looks like seaweed. Her hands and legs aren't really hands or legs, but a mass of vines that are taking hand and leg shape, compressed into a sensible business suit.

One of those vines is wrapped around your leg.

"This...*cough*...isn't...*wheeze*...please...*cough.* Hurting...*cough*...help...give back...following orders...please...*cough*...burn down...*gasping breath*...home...JUST SIGN! PLEASE!"

There's now a vine around each leg of yours, you aren't getting away without Koko letting you go, either willingly or unwillingly.

"I'll tell them that the Priestess who was number 444 and her 'partner' signed and took off before the fire." She wheezes. "But make me an oath...please..."

"What?"

"There's a maid cafe in Akihabara." Koko says. "Protect it."

"There's a lot of maid cafes in Akihabara." Star says.

"This one has a King Arthur theme. In the middle of the place...is a grove. My grove. Promise me you'll keep it safe." She wheezes out another cough.

"Why would I ever say no to something like that?" Star says.

"It's...not...exactly...innocent" She coughs. "We need to feed...everyone needs to eat..."

"Spill it." Star says.

"Narcotic in the tea." Koko says. "From our sap...keeps them coming back. Wanting to stay with us. Eventually they stay there, inside the trunk, forever. Just one a year! That's all. We've never hurt the girls. Promise!"

Star feels a muscle in her throat involuntarily clench, and her hands shake a little.

Star just turns her back on Koko and heads for the stairs where Sachiko is waiting at the door. She's not making any deals with any piece of drug-pushing scum. Also they kill people which is bad as well...a trip to Akiba is in order.

Of course, this will probably cause no end of trouble for the Ghostbusters and Sachiko down the line but...fuck it. She's not Akira, she couldn't throw Koko into the fire. But she's not...she can't...

Star rubs her arms.

She has the bad feeling that there might be a few 'Bad Days' upcoming. Maybe it would be best to invite trouble.

You can't get into Trouble if you're dealing with trouble. Star thinks to herself.

She shakes her head free of those thoughts when she gets out of the P-COC building and finds the two idiots.

Good news. You found a post-it note with both screen name AND a password!

Bad news. The guy who's desk this actually is, is back.

You quickly pocket the paper, and smile at the guy. Yes, yes, you're new. No, you didn't know that this was 'his' desk. Were we supposed to have assigned spots? Well, that does explain the toy bobbleheads and the other things scattered around here. Ah, well, so terribly sorry, won't happen again. Yes, yes. You'll take a desk over there.

You walk away, ignoring the grumblings of 'prick' behind your back and you head over to a more abandoned looking desk and sit down.

Thankfully, the system doesn't have any problem with two people being hooked into the network at the same time. You hope that there isn't someone else who can see that.

Bobblehead doesn't exactly have top access to all of P-COC's records. There's the employee manual, a mission statement written by Peck, the questionnaire script people are supposed to follow when they get a call...and a heavily filtered web browser.

There was the town of vampires versus the town of werewolves; the Ghostbusters said "Fuck this, we out" when the two sides started fighting/infecting each other, and didn't bother to check if they ever drained/killed humans.
And then there was the one instance where they were hired by a vampire to get rid of a vampire hunter. The vampire had given up draining humans of blood, but they never investigated if he had drained humans in the past.

Right, and we have shown mercy in most cases by now, and all of them have been different from spirits that admittedly kill humans, and have now asked us up front to help them keep killing humans. We already can't qualify as ruthless at this point for the sheer leniency we've already displayed - at this point, some of us are just fighting for these Ghostbusters to have any standards at all. We're not called Ghost-hold-hands-and-sing-kumbaya-ers.

You pull up the email, and thankfully bobble head used the same password to that. Thank you modern office culture.

The emails are pretty boring. Mostly questions about policy, car pools, and shift changes.

However, there are a few gems.

First is that people are complaining about the 'lounge records issue.' There's no more access to the employee lounge. There's just a bunch of 'locked file cabinets' that appeared overnight. Management apologizes for the inconvenience and says that it's just temporary until the Registry is complete and the old paper records that were given to P-COC for assessment are digitized. Until then people are to NOT touch the articles in the lounge area, under penalty of immediate termination.

People are also complaining about the noises from Maintenance. There's a lot of pound noises from that floor and people can hear them all they way down on floor 3 sometimes. Management apologizes for it, explaining that Maintenance is moving in some advanced IT equipment up there and special hardware is being installed. Also that anyone entering the 7th floor without clearance will be immediately terminated.

Finally Yasuo wants all of the human employees to remember that the yokai employees are under no obligation to drop their glamours, or even say that they're yokai. That commentary on their dietary needs in the cafeteria is considered rude, and to not be offended by some personal habits. He lists some common tanuki, kuchisake-onna, and kitsune habits that might seem strange to humans, but are harmless. Also that revealing the existence of the yokai is akin to outing a homosexual, and will be viewed as a hate act and immediate grounds for dismissal.

Also, the company dinner will be at a rather nice resturaunt where P-COC human employees will get to ask their yokai co-workers about their existence anonymously and are encouraged to do so.

Also, the list of birthdays needs to be updated.

>and have now asked us up front to help them keep killing humans
She asked for protection of the grove, which means that someone is threatening to burn her down (most likely the kitsune in order to secure her cooperation).
She can't ask for help in finding an alternative method of sustenance, if her first priority is not being burned to ash, either by her current master or by us.
>>
>>34146549
When you're under the threat of someone killing you and all you love, and there's another person right in front of you who can either protect you or kill you, do you first ask them to help you with your addiction problem, or ask them not to kill you and protect them from the other person who's threatening to kill you?

Heh. My Paladin tries to be the party face. In our first game he did this by trying to threaten the Queens of Winter and Summer (and if you have any mythological background you'll understand how monumentally BAD an idea that is). In the current one he's a level 2 character who tried to pay for an item with our bosses money (which he didn't even have on him and had to beg for it).

We decided to steal the item in question after he left the session early, just to piss him off.

>youkai employees of P-COC
Isn't there something in the P-COC regulations about needing to be fully human and alive in order to be an employee?
I'm pretty sure that Equal Opportunity Employment only applies to humans.
Youkai and other supernaturals don't have rights. They're not human, after all.
>>
>>34146680
There's talk about the 'Second Stage' project too. After the registry, P-COC is going to ramp up efforts for yokai/human integration. School programs, public education, workshops, and other ideas for integrating the non-human residency of Japan with the human. It's mostly spitball ideas and general mission statements. Nothing solid, at least the people in Receiving aren't getting anything solid, yet.

If you're going to email this to anyone, it has to be to an address of someone you know. And when you do that, the P-COC admins WILL see it.

"Daisuke's not some politician or centuries old rock creature that you have to convince, Mae!" Yasuo says with a laugh. "You can ease up. He believes in our cause."

"He does?"

"I do?"

"Well, you're building that Yokai sanctuary, correct?" Daisuke shrugs. "We're trying to do similar things. Bring the shadows out from the Shadow of Ignorance...you like that? We're still working on a good slogan."

You wave your hand in a 'eh' expression. "Needs work."

"Well, that's why we have PR. But, anyway, we can trust that you and your organization will keep this quiet? We don't want a panic, and we're all after the same thing. Safety and security for all, human or yokai."

"I suppose SOMEONE has to deal with Yurei trash." Mae sniffs.

"Doesn't this violate P-COC standards? Having non-humans on staff?" You ask.

"Nope. It actually is supported, thank you American Diversity Guidelines." Yasuo says with a look to Mae, who just rolls her eyes.

Hah, Daisuke's gonna think these guys are great.

Good thing Star and Sachiko got a lead, because as it stands, Koko's behavior goes beyond mere "yokai strangeness"
>>
>>34149334
There's a lot of little things we could Mae on:
>bit of a nationalist
"Oh, but the Occupation was so light-handed. I mean, the Americans were satisfied with the women we rounded up for them, and didn't loot and rape any of our major cities. And they didn't even burn the shrines or use national monuments for target practice. You must admit that they were far, far, more lenient than we were in the rest of Far East Asia."

>youkai sanctuary
"I assume you will have guidelines in place concerning youkai that have killed people, right? After all, there's no statute of limitations where murder is concerned."
>>
>>34149334
You reach the bottom floor. "I'm actually glad you're here. There's an...issue that I think you might be the best to deal with."

"I thought P-COC swore that they would NEVER hire the Ghostbusters." You say.

"Well, we can't. However, I CAN put out a bounty and only send one organization out on it." He smiles and then frowns. "This is actually really serious though. It could jeopardize everything we're trying to do here at P-COC."

"You aren't going to...seriously?" Mae fumes. "Ugh, we should call in the military, or use the new Registry. Not send THEM!"

"Mae, we need this done quickly and quietly." He sighs. "We're getting reports from Okinawa. A lot of incidents, we think it might be a kitsune that's gone a bit nasty."

"All kitsune are nasty. Spiteful sociopaths to a one." She shivers. "Can't believe we actually have them working for us."

"Mae, they're wonderful employees...but yes, they are clinically sociopathic...but that's why we're offering counseling and therapy." Yasuo says.

"More Western practices..." She shakes her head.

"That are working, anyway, we're modifying them and changing them to work for us. So they're ours in the end."

"I suppose." Mae sighs. "Fine. Tell them."

"I'd have to make some adjustments for the travel expenses, but would the Ghostbusters be willing for an all-expenses paid trip to Okinawa to take out a rogue kitsune?"

> Sure.
> Are you kidding? Where do I sign up?
> That sounds like a great idea!

>>

>"All kitsune are nasty. Spiteful sociopaths to a one." She shivers
Wait, why is Mae, one of the progenitor Kitsune, seem so personally affronted that her kind, based on her, are sociopaths?

And while this contract would send us to Okinawa and out of her hair, could this rogue Kitsune actually be Inari?

This sounds like such a trap, but if Mae is against it, maybe it's not.
>>
>>34149556
>Is Stumpy causing trouble?
Are you saying this from an in-character or out-of-character perspective?

IC, it wouldn't make much sense for one of Oiwa's agents to be in Okinawa; Okinawans don't really consider themselves Japanese, and vice-versa. They have their own culture, language, traditions, and folklore, which Oiwa wouldn't be a part of, and transferring culture-based PKE would be like Chinese gods trying to use Mongolians to power one of their projects.

OOC, Mae doesn't want us to go, so it's probably a rogue kitsune in the sense that she's not obeying Mae and her plans.
Of course, as sociopaths, she could just be putting on act.

I have a question that's not related to the case.

If all kitsune have sociopathic tendencies, what's the difference between a kitsune and a nogitsune?
>>
>>34149704
>what's the difference between a kitsune and a nogitsune?
Also, while there are stories of kitsune being vicious and hurting/killing people, there are also stories of kitsune helping people/being empathic and basically good.
In fact, some of the most famous kitsune are the good ones, like Genkuro and the foxes that helped Munechika.

Maybe the kami being gone, especially Inari the goddess of foxes, is what caused the kitsune to become sociopaths?
Something to ask Rini about. Were Kitsune always sociopaths.
>>
>>34149535
"Umm, wait. I have questions." You say.

Mae throws up her hands in frustration. "Every. Damn. Time!"

Yasuo sighs. "Go ahead."

"Why us, and why now?"

"Well, you're a well known group that's reliable...in your own way. Last thing I need is a hostile yokai causing bad relations. This needs to be settled, quickly. I'm willing to set aside normal politics and procedures for this."

"So you want it swept under the rug fast enough that you don't care that we're...us." You say.

"Your words, not mine." Yasuo says.

"Okay," You sigh. "How strong is this kitsune?"

"We've had reports of sightings that say it may have six tails. That's...pretty strong. I think."

Mae gives a derisive snort.

"The kitsune are...reluctant to tell us anything about them really." Yasuo sighs. "Apart from how wonderful they are."

"So, do you know why she's gone rogue, or her name, or anything?" You ask.

"Sadly, we don't. All we have are the victim reports. She's cause a few traffic accidents, temporarily abducted some children and...Mae you put together the case report. What did she do?"

"Just caused chaos to show her superiority." Mae says. "And you're a tad out of the loop. She did give her name."

"Oh she did, well that's good." You say.

"Yes." Mae looks at you and smiles. "She said that she was Tamamo-no-Mae. She said that she welcomed any challengers, and wanted to make sure that when they looked up and saw the ruins of their world...they knew the name of who defeated them."

(cont)
>>
>>34149864
"Huh. I didn't get that report." Yasuo says.

"I was about to bring it to you before we all had to get out due to the fire." Mae says.

"Ah, well...anyway, we'd be sending you to Okinawa as soon as humanly possible and you'd be there until you solved the problem. Shouldn't take you more than...what Mae?"

"If we DO send the Ghostbusters there, then they'll be in Okinawa for at LEAST three months...maybe four. Kitsune are hard to root out of their nests. I still don't think this is a good idea, we should send someone on the Registry!"

"We don't have as strong a presence in Okinawa as we do here. We need to take this one step at a time, and I think the Ghostbusters are the best idea. Don't you, Daisuke?"

You nod. It sounds like a great idea. Free trip, good money, Okinawa's nice, and you could get it done in three months, easy. You're seeing a big fat expense account and a lot of days on the beach.

The Ghostbusters timeline isn't suppose to diverge much from ours until sometime in the mid-80's, and even then, it doesn't change much.

All of the sources I'm referring to are unchanged from their pre-20th Century sources.
Even the videogames were put out in the early 2000's, and we're supposed to be past 2010, I think.
>>
>>34150040
Speaking of, I wonder what Central did with that Ghostbusters DVD they found in 1991.
>>
>>34149962
"I'm...sorry." You say. "I...I think we have a job we need to do first."

"COME ON!" Mae looks up to the sky in frustration.

"Mae!" Yasuo says. He looks at you and frowns. "Well, we can't just sit on this. If you don't go quickly, we will have to send someone from the Registry."

"Well...we'll...try to keep our calendar clear. But...yeah, there's stuff and things..." You shake you head. "Sorry, brain fart."

"Happens." Yasuo says. "Well, keep in touch." He bows.

"Yeah." You turn and take two steps and then spin on your heel. "Wait. I always thought Tamamo-no-Mae had nine tails. Not six."

"Really?" Yasuo says. "Huh. Maybe she's an impostor, or a Legend Copier. You know how they do that, right? Pretend to be a famous being to get some of their power?"

"Yeah...only thought ghosts did that." You shake your head. "Anyway, good luck with your projects. I hope they work."

"Same to you." Yasuo says.

Mae just narrows her eyes at you and sneers. Then she spins on her heel and leaves.

"She's always like that." Yasuo says with a sigh. Then he winks at you. "But it makes the evening a LOT more exciting!"

"You mean," Your eyebrows go up. "You and her?"

Yasuo nods. "Ssssh. What you're thinking is against company policy and I'm certainly not doing ANYTHING like that."

You nod and give him a grin. "Of course. Have a good day." You go back to the others.

"Daisuke!" Star says. "We've got to te-"

"Not here." You say. "Everyone in YOMI and we're going home. Until then, not a word."

The gang and Sachiko (who now is pretty much part of the gang after committing her first felony) head back to the factory.

There's a brief conversation in the car via note pad with the radio turned up.

You all get back to the Dumpling Factory, and after a quick PKE scan and radio scan, feel secure enough to talk.

Star immediately takes the Black Paper to be Spectro-analyized.

(cont)
>>
>>34149977
>Like she was killed once, and then her ghost passed on.
Oh yeah.
She was killed once (she asked for mercy, but come on. You're asking for mercy from a pair of Secret Service agents for committing treason and essentially trying to assassinate the President. Might have worked on other exorcists, but their job description pretty much forbade that), then a Buddhist priest basically told her "What are you doing with your un-life, sitting around in a rock all day? Don't you have better things to do?".
Now, it was assumed that Mae-turned-Hoji passed on, but it just said it wouldn't haunt the Killing Stone anymore.

Also, we do have some conflicting stories about Mae. Some say she was a nogitsune working for an evil daimyo, others that she was a good kitsune forced to work for an evil daimyo.
>>
I guess the important questions right now are, is the kitsune in Okinawa a rogue kitsune not following Mae's order and therefore a potential ally, one of Mae's agents meant to distract us, or is there even a kitsune there since Mae could have just made up the report to send us on a wild goose chase?
>>
>>34150194
"So we've got to raid a maid cafe that's eating people." Akira says. "Never liked those places."

"Is there anything you DO like that doesn't involve setting someone or something on fire? Would one of those cafes where they dress up in hockey masks and gas masks and you eat in a post-apocalyptic wasteland be more your speed?" Sato says.

"I thought they closed that place down." Akira says.

"Getting back to P-COC." You say. "We have...nothing."

"What? No! We have the plant lady." Sato says.

"They already admitted to us that they have Yokai, and I'm damn sure that she has plenty of reason to think that her grove would be burned down if people found out that it ate a person a year by drugging them." You say. "Because if we weren't already going to DO that, P-COC would."

"The weird kimono in the front lobby?" Sato asks.

"Again, they admitted that they have supernatural stuff." You say. "We've just got digital pictures of the thing. No proof."

"The paper and the contract?" Sato asks.

Akira shakes his head. "This is...not sinister in the least." He says looking it over. "The only thing that's weird is that it keeps saying that obedience to the Emperor is the first and foremost priority. Other than that, standard employment contract. The Ghostbuster Employment Contract has more legal loopholes and nefarious intent."

"The black paper?" Sato asks.

"Dyed papyrus." Star says. "Heavy PKE energy signature, but that's it. Same with the marble. It's just charged...like a battery. No intent or focus, just PKE rich."

"Papyrus?" You ask. "Weird."

"Yeah, but there's nothing WRONG about that. Is there?" Star says.

"But they have to be doing SOMETHING evil! They're P-COC!" Sato says.

"The only thing we know and can prove is that they have ONE nasty Yokai that's trying to keep her home safe and her dirty little secret, secret." Akira says.

"Sounds like the only reason you don't like them Sato," Sachiko says. "Is because they're P-COC."

>>34150354
Well shit, looks like we flunked that mission.
>>
>>34150354
Wait, isn't her insistence that Star and Sachiko had to sign the paper odd? Like there's no reason for Koko to correlate her family's dirty activities with having to make sure everyone registers for the contract, to the point of going in a room filled with fire.

That is severely abnormal.
>>
>>34150415
That's true. But, as we saw, there may be more than a little mind-manipulation going on to make certain things not seem suspicious.
>>
>>34150415
I mean come on, her zealousness doesn't really have a logical explanation unless you go "Youkai be crazy" which isn't very satisfactory at all. She risked her life, and decided to confess what her family was doing, to a fucking ghost buster.
>>
>>34150444
>>34150415
We need to go check out that cafe, they might be able to tell us what P-COC has over their heads.

>>34150440
This. Mae seemed really intent on getting the Ghostbusters out of Tokyo for three months. She even used Mind Shit to try and do it, and Daisuke should be able to recognize that short of Influence.
Also, the mission itself was unusual. A "Rogue Kitsune" that was supposedly "Tamamo no Mae."
If we had a way to get down to Okinawa and back really quick, I'd say we go and try to find her.
>>
>>34150444
>decided to confess what her family was doing, to a fucking ghost buster.
Think about that for a second.
She was willing to confess to someone that she knew was probably going to kill her, because the conditions of her boss, who's already threatening to kill her, were even worse.

Maybe she hoped that the Ghostbusters would give her the same chance that Kali and the Old Man got?
Because she's got no wiggle-room with her current employer threatening to torch her and her grove.
>>
>>34150494
I'm not sure why she bothered confessing anyway.

Like I know Youkai can break oaths, but they can totally lie, Tamamo-no-Mae just lied her ass off.

Was it so we wouldn't freak out once we knew the truth and were already in the situation?
>>
>>34150354
"It's all these little things though." Sato says. "And I remember Yasuo, don't you. He...really didn't seem to be the type who would head up a project like this."

Star shrugs. "People change as life changes them."

"Yeah." Akira says. "But I'm with Sato, that's a pretty big change from going from Mr. Rule Book to Mr. Equality For All, as well as Mr. Hire Ghostbusters Under The Table."

"I'm actually with Sato." Sachiko says. "Proof or not, these people give off a weird vibe. Plus, if they're letting plant girl work for them that means that they're worse at their yokai screening than you guys are."

"Also, why would a Plant yokai brave FIRE, just so me and Sachiko would sign a piece of paper?" Star says. "And it didn't sound like she was HIDING the 'eating people' thing."

"I'm with you too." You say. "There's something weird going on, and maybe something nasty...but we have no idea what and have no proof at all."

"Great." Akira sighs. "Now what? Going back to busting Love Hotel ghosts and getting ready for the Oiwa fight?"

You shrug. "Well, we should call Rini and see if her family has heard anything and...hang on." Your phone just vibrated.

It's a text from Kaede. You last heard from her that she had gotten back into school and had stopped working three jobs to keep Dad afloat. Things were going well for her.

Wait.
We think the kimono might be the Furisode Kimono, right? That's one of the possible haunted kimono's that Star and Sachiko identified.

That thing would burn Tokyo, including Akihabara.
Which would include Koko's maid cafe and grove.
It could be that she's being forced to work for Mae now, because if she doesn't, then her grove gets torched.
But it's going to get torched anyway, in the fire that Mae is planning.

She's dead either way, and she's probably been with P-COC since we took custody of Kali and helped to create the sanctuary with Rini, so maybe she thinks that she's got nothing to lose at this point.
Defy Mae = dead.
Work for Mae = dead later.
Confess to the Ghostbusters and ask for help = maybe dead.

Just so you guys don't dwell on it forever, there is no kitsune in Okinawa. Mae was trying to get rid of you. Good rolls though.

Don't worry about getting nothing. You have a copy on the Contract, and the Black Paper, and you were able to resist Mae's trick. You also kept Sachiko off the Registry, and helped her unlock some of her PKE manipulation ability. These are all wins.

Downside is that Mae knows that Sachiko isn't on the registry, so she's now a target, but that doesn't really change that much. Also, Koko is still loyal to Mae.

>Also, is it possible for us to figure out what the Tic-Tac-Toe stuff was all about?

>>
>>34150776
Yes, Star was horrified at the thought of people being eaten, and of drug addiction.
But she also knows how hard it can be to kick an addiction, like what Koko has, but only worse.

As for Koko and her type thinking about alternatives to eating humans, consider that the only ones able to come up with science-backed alternative are the Ghostbusters, who are the only ones to have this science and technology (which are proprietary company secrets and therefore NOT published in science journals and NOT available to anyone outside the company) and who have a reputation for blasting and trapping first, asking questions never.

Central only keeps incredibly mundane and harmless stuff in the front lobby, and something which supposedly caused one of the great fires of Japan is not one of those things.

Also if PCOC explicitly says "yeah, that's the the same cursed kimono" then fine, but if this had been swiped under their noses we are still obliged to inform them about it.

What he said
>>
>>34150875
>Firstly, it was assumed the Furisode Kimono was destroyed by the fire, I'm pretty sure.
It was burning, but destruction wasn't confirmed.
And death/destruction isn't always enough in Japanese folklore.

>do you realize just how insane that is to have that be displayed in your lobby
And the high-powered weaponry and dangerous energies we deal with are any better?
Not to mention, this is a world with confirmed artifacts and supernatural activity. The Imperial Regalia is probably pretty strong, and it also brings into question: Is the Emperor really a kami? Was there a hidden part of the Tokyo Accords that said that the US wouldn't use nukes to disincorporate the kami of Japan in return for the Imperial line agreeing to keep their power sealed?

>Shit's like having Godzilla chained up in your parking lot.
Who says there isn't? We've got Legion-Class entities in our basement.

>Central only keeps incredibly mundane and harmless stuff in the front lobby, and something which supposedly caused one of the great fires of Japan is not one of those things.
Peter keeps the Skull of Ivo Shandor on his desk.
>>
>>34151058
That was the skull of his actual body before his ascension to godhood, but you do have a point. I would presume they kept the skull of Gozer too.

Just saying we could at least ask "that kimono in the front's very interesting. Got a big PKE signature and looks like something outta legend. You guys put that there on purpose right?"
>>
We've been all assuming that Koko's grove is in Akihabara in a maid cafe.

What if it's not? What if it's a test to see what the Ghostbusters do?
Like, there is a grove in the center of the cafe, but it's just mundane plants with a bit of a PKE trace to make them seem more than they are, and Koko wants to see if we're going to immediately torch her, or if we're willing to discuss terms.

It could be a trap set by Mae, but that's assuming that she's got so many contingency plans in place that we'd almost never beat her without a LOT of planning and information-gathering on our own, which we don't have time for.
>>
>>34151095
They've got the painting of Vigo down there too, that's appearantly been repossessed.

But yeah, if we can get Yasuo alone, just chatting him up about some of the stuff might help. But we have to be careful, we're on Mae's shitlist since we were there under her nose, kept Sachiko off the registry and left looking even more like the heroes potentially.

We also need to extend a hand of friendship to PAGAN. Remember the little psychic girl told us that they were the key to getting Oiwa's face back.
>>
>>34151133
Oh right that.

Wouldn't that fuck with Mae's plans? Having the star of the show just go "nah."
>>
>>34151133
Oh yeah, and he comes with over 100 unique lines!

Ah PAGAN. Beyond their leader, I still don't like them, don't think I ever will. I actually like the PCOC a lot more than them and am quite sad things turned out this way (really felt the PCOC could've been a force of good here). That said they'll be what the Ghostbusters are to the PCOC, important to the security of the world, technically allies, but we still don't see eye to eye and I think that suits everyone just fine.
>>
>>34151133
>key to getting Oiwa's face back.
Casting Oiwa as some kind of protagonist would only work if you create some kind of anime/video game like Shin Megami Tensei or Persona where you futz around with legendary figures.

A reboot movie of the Yotsuya Kaidan with one of the original screenplays, where Oiwa is still disfigured and killed, but who isn't just a vengeful spirit but one who is seeking justice and is considerate of her sister, could work better.
>>
>>34151166
PAGAN is the worst elements of PETA, Sea Shepherd, and ALF.
I'd push them into haunted houses to be eaten, but that would only strengthen the entity we need to bust later. Maybe turn Koko's maid cafe into a coffee shop that caters to the PAGAN crowd? They're some people I wouldn't mind seeing disappear.

>The Imperial Regalia is probably pretty strong, and it also brings into question: Is the Emperor really a kami?
He's definitly divine alright. Emperor Showa rejected the idea of a manifestation of a god, but not divine descent.

>Was there a hidden part of the Tokyo Accords that said that the US wouldn't use nukes to disincorporate the kami of Japan in return for the Imperial line agreeing to keep their power sealed?
I'm sure Uncle Sam and all the other powers have their own secrets. I'm wondering if the MIB who totally aren't the same MIB with the aliens /surely/ have probably made some major upgrades to themselves thanks to the GB's pioneering of nuclear science and paranormal scienceis.
>>
>>34151205
We still don't really know what the spiritual ramifications of the Atomic Bombs were.

But I have to imagine they were pretty fucking dire.
>>
So, we need to talk with Rini about kitsune, and if they were always sociopaths, or if that happened later.

We need to look up what kind of youkai is Koko, see if there are alternatives to her method of sustenance (by asking Kali, consulting GB guides, and some of Rini's youkai contacts), and then go an pay her grove a visit.

Drop Yasuo an email about "Hey, noticed the nice kimono you had on display, but it peaked our PKE meters; anything you want to tell us about it?"

And ask youkai and Sachiko about the missing kami, that we got a confirmation from another god from.

Oh, and somehow deal with our omiai.
While I wouldn't be adverse to at least 1 meeting (there are ways to refuse that allows the refused party to leave with no loss of face and with their dignity intact), I really wouldn't want to inflict the Ghostbuster lifestyle on a spouse.
Almost as dangerous as being active-duty military in a combat zone, and comes home smelling worse with potentially ecto-hazardous stains.
>>
>>34151254
Atomic Bombs, like most nuclear explosions as well as total protonic reversal, are a one way ticked to the afterlife for all things living or unliving.

Complete annihilation of all matter and even spiritual energies that could still tie your immortal soul to this world. Nobody at Hiroshima or Nagasaki had a chance to become a ghost, souls sent straight to the afterlife.

And currently the only surefire method to free trapped souls from Rogue Gods at the moment.
>>
>>34151254
"Field of Screams" by Mickey Bradley touched on this. Baseball players who played for and against the Hiroshima Carp had some stories. One that stands out in memory is a lady all dressed up in a kimono serving guests beer. They say that some who died went out so quickly, that maybe they still don't realize they're dead and go about their business.
>>
>>34151205
>who totally aren't the same MIB with the aliens /surely/

It's my personal canon that MIB and GB exist in the same world. (Mostly because the same studio did both cartoons) Also, Egon is fully cleared to know everything about the MIB, and that the GBs are regular 'outsource' work. Sometimes money just shows up in bank accounts...like any GB would every question something like that.
>>
>>34151409
>MIB and GB exist in the same world
Then will we ever deal with the ghosts of aliens?
Will the ghosts of aliens ever have to deal with us?
And what happens when an alien's pantheon butts heads with a local Earth pantheon?
>>
>>34151409
Mars Attacks and Ninja Turtles also exist in the same world too, if the Crossovers haven't lied to me.
>>
>>34151425
Ghostbusters actually had to deal with an alien ghosts that possessed an astronaut in the international space station.

I imagine that since humans an aliens don't have much interaction, neither do our gods, except on the occasion where either of us worship beings who explicitly do. Gozer has eaten a lot of of alien planets, and likely their entire pantheons in her wake.
>>
>>34151425
>Then will we ever deal with the ghosts of aliens?
You don't remember.
>Will the ghosts of aliens ever have to deal with us?
You don't remember.

Goddamn neuralizer.
Egon's glasses are anti-neuralizer coated, aren't they?
>>
>>34151473
Technically the ghosts of aliens would fall outside of the MIB's jurisdiction. Especially since Central remembers all of their interactions with Alien Ghosts.
>>
>>34151501
>Implying they didn't orchestrate that entire event and let them keep their memories on purpose
>>
>>34151490
Of course, but the last time the two groups paths crossed, he pokerfaced so there'd be less paperwork and more usable data.
>>
>>34151515
>Implying that they did.
>>
Now I'm wondering if the underworld has their own Peoplebuster version of the MIB, who deal with alien ghosts.
>>
>>34151538
I'm still waiting for the big underworld Tokyo sojourn episode of this quest where we get to meet them proper, even if it's just Yurei or something.
>>
>>34151568
The peoplebusters I mean
>>
>>34151568
If we go into Yomi, gotta watch out for angry ex-wives.
>>
>>34151568
I'd be surprised if there wouldn't be an underworld journey episode, and to meet them would be amazing, but even without that to simply briefly see them along with any other ghostly allies we might have in the final battle to help us stop our worlds from colliding (and inconvenience to many on the other-side as well) would be awesome.
