You slip through the formless black, your perception of time seeming to warp, stretch, and twist until there's no telling how long you've been there. It could have been seconds or it could have been years. Always that figure hovers at the edge of your vision, its voice whispering unintelligible gibberish from all around you. Every time you manage to catch a glimpse of its glowing eyes they seem to be closer, until he seems to be nearly on top of you. As fingers of ice slip around your neck and start to squeeze a light appears up ahead, and then before you understand quite what's happened you're thrust back into the real world.

Rather than emerging into the center of the Shah's throne room, as you'd dreaded, you find yourself stumbling into a dank, dimly lit, stone walled room. The only light shines through from high windows, casting their light on a row of massive cask lined up against the wall, each one larger than you are. A bird takes flight as your steps echo loudly on the marble floors, perching on the ornately carved capital of an adjacent column. You've never been in this room of the palace before, despite spending untold hours here over the course of your apprenticeship. Judging by the smell that permeates the room, it's a wine cellar.

Your attention is drawn to the sound of a quiet yelp from behind you. Darzi has sprawled out across the floor, seems she tripped over the steps on her way out. You move to help her, but she's already up and brushing herself off busily before you have the opportunity. Chrys steps out of the portal calmly, seemingly unaffected by that horrifying journey through the void you just enjoyed, and Fulvia follows sharp on her heels. The Witch and Profectus stumble out almost simultaneously, the former pushing the later to the ground and taking a few steps to the side to double over and catch her breath. Profectus grumbles something you don't understand while pushing himself to his feet.

Lets see here... You, Chrys, Darzi, Mortia, Profectus, Fulvia... who are you missing? Before you can exactly recall Skull Kid's head impacts the marble floor heavily, the clang echoing through the cavern. Every bird in the room takes flight, making for the windows and escape. You whip around, the rest of his body sprawling out on the floor as it leaves your cloak. He's just laying there, sobbing quietly. “Oh come now! The inside of my cloak isn't that horrifying! I'll have you know Ricky's put a lot of effort into decorating the place and I think it's lovely!” Skull Kid's only comment on the matter is incredulous. “You named it... of course you named it.”

Well, it seems like everyone made it through safely. The portal has deactivated behind you, so you have a few options regarding exits. There is a small stairwell leading up to a heavy oaken door just ahead, that would probably lead you into either the basement or the palace proper. There's also a hallway branching off of this room, you've little idea where that might lead.

>Follow the hallway, see where it goes.
>Head for the door, eventually you ought to find familiar territory.

Also.
Take a little time to stretch and take in that fresh Mundus air.
We're back baby!

>Follow the hallway, see where it goes.

Maybe we'll find an escape tunnel leading outside and won't be forced to go through the palace.

So Darzi you wouldnt by chance have been to the palace before have you? (Also I say we keep our helmet on so no one can see our scare)

halway, suspicious people in royal palace doesn't exactly scream safety

Ask for some advice from Darzi, being a guard some of this may be familiair to her. Also we need to cover up our face completely if it's not alread. If we be in our homeland I don't wanna be lynched by out countrymen.
>>
>>34112192
Didn't we cut that off our face?
>>
>>34112380
we cut the brand off but it left a big scar
>>
>>34112380
Only the part with the brand and most of the cheek with it, but it's a fuck HUGH scar right now and just about everything worth their spit knows our face after banishment.
>>
>>34112380
We no longer have a brand, but there's still a fairly suspicious scar in its place.
>>
So it seems like asking Darzi for advice, concealing your face, and heading for the doorway are popular. I'll start writin'.

Oh, and I found an alternative reference for your Centurion armor that I like pretty well. May or may not make this the canon appearance of your armor when sealed off.
>>
So the boots and ring fucks us over with health/sanity.
So i think the cloak either body snatches us, or forces us in bad situations(Ex:We acidently Kill the Shah.)
>>
>>34112093
>>Follow the hallway, see where it goes.
Lets put on our sura armour suit, that should help us more instead of the centurion.
>>
also we gotta go with a fake name here. Anyone got any ideas. We could just have people call us Mike. Mik seems like an obvious nickname be I might just be paranoid.
>>
>>34112093
>Skull Kid's only comment on the matter is incredulous. “You named it... of course you named it.”
"Why does everyone say that?"
>>
>>34112487
I'll second this, we'll probably blend in better in the Hiacian armor than we would in our Centurion armor.

Some, this Hiacian armor will just make us stand out even more, won't it?
>>
>>34112689
Probably not any more than your Centurion armor, the Hiacian armor is at least the armor of your ancestors, rather than your ancestral enemies. You'll attract envy and curiosity rather than ire.

Actually, the Samrajya (Eastern Pidjata) and the Shahdom (Western Pidjata) have been at war for centuries, ever since the fall of the Hiacian Empire. Now, it's not constant, endemic, large scale warfare but there is always a border dispute or some minor skirmishes going on, especially in the south, near the Deep Desert.
>>
>>34112956
I thought that Eastern Pidjata wasn't under control of the Shahdom.
And hey no need to call people names.

Maybe we should give SK a weapon so he doesn't have to waste bullets/shells if a fight find us?
Buy him and Mortia a Guar so they doesn't have to ride with someone?
Of course all of this can wait until we exit this cellar.
>muh meditation at the lake.

You turn your attention to Darzi. “Do you have any idea where we are?” She looks around for a moment before slowly shaking her head. “Afraid not, there are dozens of cellars like this one all around the palace. If we can find a main hallway I ought to be able to navigate a way out.” You frown. “Well, lets head through the doorway, then. Who knows where that hallway goes?” Darzi speaks up once more. “Actually, I do. It probably leads to the kitchens. This is a wine cellar after all. Best to avoid it, since the kitchens are always full of staff.” She glances down at herself, encased in Elaudian steel as she is. “You wouldn't happen to still have my guard armor, would you?”

You reach into your cloak and extract the gilded cuirass and chainmail that makes up the uniform of a City Guard Captain, as well as the various other accouterments . She takes the bundle of clothing and armor gratefully before retreating into the hallway, it ought to afford her something resembling privacy. An idea occurs to you, and you quickly press a button on your armor's control panel. The back unseals, folding into itself and allowing you to slip it off carefully. You pick up the heavy bundle and stuff it into your cloak before extracting the Ancient Hiacian armor you discovered in Baldev's vault. It hits the marble floor with a series of dull thuds and the jangling of ornaments.

Unlike your Centurion Armor, you actually have to put on each individual piece of this armor. Fortunately it's a fairly simple task. The materials it's made of seems remarkably pliant, yet unbelievably sturdy. You manage to slip the cuirass over your head and feel something prick your neck painfully, the armor suddenly tightening to fit you perfectly. When you cinch the cuisse onto your thighs and feel a similar prick they too tighten. You find that every individual piece of armor attunes itself to you separately, a trait you quickly come to loathe. When you finally unhinge the helmet and slip it over your head, the seals clicking quietly into place, you feel it stab you painfully in the base of your neck. Fire shoots up and down your spine and when you're next aware of yourself you're sprawled out face first on the floor.

You feel... fantastic, oddly enough. You feel stronger, faster, tougher, even healthier. It doesn't take you long to figure out why, your armor is passively drawing vys from your surroundings to refill your reserves and boost your physical attributes. Unfortunately there isn't any obvious control panel, and judging by the way each piece of armor attuned itself to you individually there is no telling what each piece of armor might do when vys is channeled into it.

Darzi appears a moment later, garbed in her guard uniform once again. Her burn scars are more or less completely concealed, save for a few on her hands and around her neck. She ought to allow you an air of legitimacy as you walk through the palace, assuming nobody recognizes her that is. Skull Kid will be a problem, you'll probably have to pass him off as some sort of tamed construct...
(2/3)
>>
Regardless, the longer you stay here the more likely someone is to come and investigate all the noise you're making. You gesture for Darzi to lead the way and the happily obliges, strutting with unusual confidence towards the oaken door. She jerks it open carelessly and steps through, your party following quickly on her heels. You find yourself in some sort of elaborate seating area, incense holders hanging from decorative columns and filling the air with sweet smelling smoke. Pillows are scattered all around a bowl in the center of the room, on which a collection of fruit sits. It's blessedly empty.

Darzi transmits to you via the brooches as she leads the party towards one of the doors. {If anyone ask, you're adventurers here to offer the Shah one of your finds. I deemed your goods unworthy and am thus escorting you out of the castle. You'll need to think up a fake name, and it's probably wise for the others to do so as well.}

The hallyway she leads you into is ornate, to say the least. The floors are marble and the walls are covered in intricate mosaics depicting scenes of battle. One mosaic in particular draws your attention. A man wearing armor not unlike yours is impaled on the end of the spear, dangling limply in the air. He's been stabbed through the back, but not by the enemy. Rather, it is a Samja wearing naught but a loincloth. Another Samja wearing flowing garb, with his face obscured, has cut off the soldier's face. Finally a third Samja, a woman, has sliced off his feet and cradles them like one might a babe. It's an... odd, and vaguely foreboding image.

{I recognize this hallway, it connected the entry hall to the dining areas. I thought that sitting room looked familiar.} Darzi's voice enters the back of your head, though it seems oddly muffled. You're glad that at least she knows where you are, because you're still completely lost. Hopefully at least the entry hall will be familiar, you know you've been there before. After walking for perhaps a minute you finally reach a doorway.

Stepping into the entry hall you're momentarily blinded by the intensity of the midday sun. When your vision clears, your jaw clenches involuntarily. Standing in the center of the brightly decorated room is none other than the Shah himself, conversing happily with two nobles you don't recognize. He's a tall man, taller even than you are at seven feet tall exactly. His hair tumbles down past his shoulders, and the lightest dusting of a beard covers his face. The only indicator of his age. The simple jeweled gold chain that adorns his head seems to throb with magical power, as does the ornate necklace that seems to cascade down his chest. They mark his rank. His garb is unexpectedly practical, if made of the finest silk. He turns to look at you as you enter the room.

Crap, he looks curious. He turns to his noble compatriots and speaks to them gently. “My friends, if you'd be so kind there is some business I must attend to. I will see you come lunch, yes?” They nod their assent, ostentatious jewelry clattering loudly with even the slightest of movements, and turn to make their exit through one of the side doors. The shah turns to your party as you approach, before snapping his fingers. Darzi freezes in place, snapping to attention. She touches two of her fingers first to her forehead and then to her chest before falling to one knee. You perform a similar gesture, although you merely bow rather than taking a knee. Your companions follow your lead after a fashion, all save Chrys, who simply stares passively at one of the most powerful men in the world.

“Rise.” The Shah commands, and you obey. You straighten yourself and Darzi stands. The Shah addresses Darzi while keeping his eye on you. “Captain, tell me. Who are these...” He looks from you, to the rest of your party. “-fine guest of ours, and why was I not alerted to their presence?” Darzi snaps off her answer with practiced ease. “Adventurers who claim to have returned recently from the Pa'vala, oh enlightened ruler. They come to offer you their wares, but after inspecting their wares I found them lacking. I did not wish to trouble your grace with second rate baubles.”

The Shah strokes what constitutes a beard among your people contemplatively. “I would see their wares regardless.”

That's because we don't know the guy, and we tried to get his son banished.

You grin a devilish grin, from behind your mask of course. “Ah! I knew the Shah would be a man of taste, unlike this vile woman I've been forced to deal with!” You proclaim proudly, drawing your cloak open with a flourish. The Shah merely raises an eyebrow as he watches you shove your hand through the fabric or your cloak and pull out one of those bulbous lanterns. As soon as it's out in the open it lights up and cast the area in a deep, red light. “A magical lantern, found deep beneath the sands! It's method of function is a mystery to this lowly wanderer, but for a man such as you an ostentatious display of mysterious, unknown power seems just the thing!”

You press it into Darzi's hands unceremoniously before reaching back into your cloak and withdrawing that enchanted gauntlet you found embedded in the lift cage while searching for Baldev. The palm glows faintly with magical power and wires run up the fingers to strange devices set in the fingertips. A strange sort of metallic control pannel extends past the wrist, large spikes protruding inwards. “A powerful gauntlet of unknown use! I know it's definitely powerful though! Why, just look! It needs to be screwed directly into the bones of one's forearms, if that doesn't scream power I don't know what does!” The Shah smiles wryly. “Unfortunately I prefer to be able to remove artifacts after I've put them on.” You scoff, waving him off unceremoniously and pushing the Gauntlet into Darzi's hands, she's starting to glare at you, but hopefully it's all part of the act.

(1/2)
>>
>>34115255
Speaking of doom Paul, what should this be on the happening-Con scale? 3?
>>
You withdraw another lantern, simply for the fun of it. “Behold! A magical lantern, found deep beneath the sands! It's method of function-” The Shah interrupts you. “You've already said that, my friend. No need to repeat yourself.” He's smiling now, a mix of sympathy and amusement. You scratch your head in mock confusion before glancing over to Darzi and pretending to be surprised when you see the other lantern there. You press the lantern your holding into her hands and reach once more into your cloak.

You withdraw one of the venom glands you extracted from the plant monsters in the mines. It's a sickly, purple thing. Bulbous and lumpy. Fortunately its time in the cloak has cleaned it of blood and various fleshy residues, leaving only the sack itself. “A strange... thing! I found it in a ceramic jar buried partially under ground. I think it might be some sort of... fruit, maybe? I'm not sure.” The Shah looks mildly disgusted, so you press that too into Darzi's hands. When you reach into your cloak and withdraw a third magic lantern the Shah holds up his hands. “I think that's quite enough, my friend. I'm sorry to say that you were right, Captain. You may escort these 'adventurers' off of the premises.”

She drops your various artifacts, minor though they are treating them carelessly still irks you. You're forced to crouch down to pick them up while she's busy bowing to her ruler. Once you've tucked your various findings away you stand, noticing that the Shah has turned his back to you. You could probably do it right now, end the man's life...

not really.. We can discuss it with him via the brooch and see if it's a viable option. If tehe game is going well we can use our share to put up costs of the new store.
If not i guess we can go there. Would be interesting to meet the shah's daughter again after our vast improvement since then.

Also guys, How do you feel about spending a turn soon on figureing out what our armor does?
We still haven't fucked around with the ring it may be able to cast a spell or something. same with the pouch we found. and have prof fuck with his armor out side of the things we have done. and learn more about our armor.
Basically have everyone fuck around with their armor and weapons. So we know how to utilize our shit better. Wouldn't be surprised if centurion armor had a heal function.

While some part of you certainly wants to end the man who handed down your sentence, you can't bring yourself to do it. He's not truly the man you take issue with, it's his son you want to kill. In fact as far back as you can recall the Shah has always been polite, even kind, if eternally distant and a tad absentminded. You turn to leave, following Darzi while grumbling something about 'stuffy nobles' and 'no sense of adventure'. It seemed appropriate for the role you were playing.

You pass through a pair of massive double doors into the courtyard beyond. You're afforded a lovely view of the city, the Grand Library in the distance and the port far below. Greenery sprouts up all around you, birds flitting about carelessly. These aren't the proper gardens, rather merely decoration to make the walk to the main gate of the palace more pleasant, but nonetheless it's breathtaking.

As you're 'escorted' down the path towards the streets of the city below you come across a woman sitting in the branches of a fig tree, happily plucking the fruits and consuming them skin and all. You don't recognize her, but she's dressed quite finely in a silken dress. She is fairly heavily tattooed, a practice uncommon but no unheard of among your people, and a sword hangs from her back in a leather sheath. It's straight and broad, after some foreign design. She doesn't wear much in the way of ornamentation, but you still recognize her as Shahzadi Shahnaz, the Shah's oldest daughter and the second in line to inherit the throne.

She nods to Darzi as you pass, and eyes you warily, but elects to say nothing. You seem to just be meeting the entire Royal Family on your way out of the palace. It's a miracle you haven't been found out yet. Finally you reach the gates proper. Darzi calls up to the men standing on the wall. “Open the gates!” A moment later they swing open and she leads you out into the streets of the noble's district just beyond the palace walls.

You walk several blocks, putting distance between you and the palace before coming to a stop in front of an upper class drinking establishment of some sort. You hear music playing softly from inside, and vaguely sweet smelling smoke billows out past the curtains that cover the entrance. Darzi lets out a deep sigh and leans against the wall, cupping her head in her hands. “Gods... that was far too close for comfort.” You nod your head, but there's no feeling in it. You're just too... happy. You're home! You're finally home, walking familiar streets! You could probably even find your family's estate, if you wished to.

Darzi Chrys Fulvia and Prof goes to the market

“Lets head to the marketplace. I've got a lot of things that I need to offload. Actually, come to think of it we've got a lot of chest that are just filled with gold and silver coins. We need to count those at some point.” Darzi stands up straight, eyeing you for a moment. “Are you sure it's wise to linger in town too long? You might be recognized.” You wave her off. “I doubt it, so long as we avoid the Grand Library and the homes of the various Vatis around it we ought to be fine. Few outside of my colleagues would recognize my face, let alone my voice.”

Still, her suggestion has some merit. As you progress through the city streets towards the docks and the marketplace you can't help but notice that your party is attracting quite a few stares. Most of you are heavily armed and armored and a fair portion of you are in some way physically deformed, altered, or otherwise stand out. Come to think of it, you and Mortia are probably the only ones in the party that don't have some sort of obvious disfigurement. Chrys has those horns protruding from her head, Darzi her burn scars. One of Profectus' arms has been replaced by a stone effigy. Skull Kid appears to have completely replaced his head with a strange metal dome, along with much of the rest of his body to all outward appearances. Fulvia's human appearance is only a facade, but it might actually make her qualify as 'normal-looking'.
(1/?)
>>
We've already met the Shah as 1st encounter and the 2nd heir to the throne as 2nd encounter. Let's not risk meeting Kadir and risk going full retard.
>>
“On second thought, Darzi... I think you're probably right. Why don't you, Chrys, Fulvia, and Profectus go to the marketplace to do our shopping for us while Skull Kid, Mortia, and I wait outside the gates?” Darzi nods her head. “I think that would be for the best. I understand you were probably looking forward to seeing some old friends-” You wave her off. “I certainly wish to, but I... probably wouldn't risk exposure like that. No guarantees.” You smile behind your mask, though you realize it's a pointless gesture. The mask's face is cast in an eternal scowl. Darzi glances towards the marketplace briefly before rubbing her chin. “What would you have us buy? Food, water, mounts, a wagon...? Come to think of it, what do you want us to sell?”

We shouldn't keep materials for a base we don't know the location of or if we even want to build one.

>Mounts
Think I got all the votes.

You'll buy food, water, and tents.

You'll give the cloak to whoever Ricky is okay with, and tell them to only sell mundane and relatively cheap stuff. Nothing Rhynian, nothing enchanted. That's basically:
>200 silver worth of cheap jewelery.
>Crude Jade Amulet
>x4 Heavy Iron Lamellar
>8x Wool Crates
>5x Pottery Crates
>5x Lumber Crates
>2x Weapons Crates
>12 bolts of silk
>2x Good Wine
>3x Wine
>1x Crappy Wine
>1x Date Liquor
>4x Honeyed Sorghum Beer
Does this sound good to everybody? Speak now or forever hold your peace.

Shit I just realized that we still have those hazardous mystery boxes.
Should we save those until we get Grandmaster in water?
>>
>>34118922
save a bottle of good wine and pop it open while we wait for the others
>>
>>34118922
sounds good, but is it advantageous to get a wagon with the carriage?
>>
>>34118922
I'd like to keep one of the good wines and honeyed beers for ourselves.
We do like our liquor after all
>>
>>34118922
Don't forget the scrolls.

Everything there but the drink. The crappy wine can go.
>>
>>34118922
yes, are you going to give us the options that we have to do while we what?
>>
>>34118973
we're not selling the scrolls, those should go to the academy anyway.

>>
>>34118973
If you mean buy a scroll or to then yes.
>>
>>34118922
Yes, save the good win and also the sorghum beer
>>
So it looks like people want to keep the (good) booze, sell the crap wine. Noted.

Do you want to ask the shoppers to keep an eye out for magical scrolls that might be of interest? Keep in mind, in your home country there are no regulations regarding selling fake magical scrolls, and none of your companions are trained Vatis like you are. They'll need to make checks to recognize a fake.

We are going to be waiting outside the gates. Our options will be the regular talk, meditate, read.
>>
>>34119126
Because we won't be returning for a long time, and the academy doesn't have everything.
>>
>>34119135
there are no laws against selling fakes
>>
>>34119150
yes there is that, but we should find out if it's available at the academy first, then shop here so we don't waste money.

>>34119093
wow. you'd think, considering our peoples magical aptitude, forgers would be caught out and blacklisted almost immediately. guess we just let others fend for themselves, as a people, and leave the stupid to suffer for their mistakes.
