General Notes.
>Who are you?
You are Kouga, one of the brave soldiers that fight for the love and peace of the world, a Saint. You were raised in the Sanctuary by your Master Integra and under the tutelage of the Witch of Darkness Medea. The Sanctuary considers you a prized soldier because you were born under the blessing of a Dark God, who hopes to use you as his dark messiah to destroy the world of light.

But you won’t have any of that… thus your main mission right now, besides being a Saint, is to find a way to make the darkness you wield yours and find a way to stop the Dark God from possessing you again.

How does love work? Also you must now face the truth, the truth called magic and sorcery

>How do your powers work?
Generally you have two elemental powers, the first are your electrical powers, which sadly over the years you have neglected. They serve as your primary ranged damage source and they have a low chance of stunning the enemy.

Then you have your Darkness Type Moves, which are used through Evil Right, generally you obtain some dice bonuses and DC bonuses depending on the type of attack used and when Evil Right is equipped you can use Curses and Witchcraft without having to waste a turn to prepare them.

In general Kouga build resulted in you having weaker physical capabilities, and in turn you should use things like Elemental advantages and Curses to even the field.

>What is the elemental wheel?
Certain Elements beat others, the general idea is that if you use a super effective move on an enemy, you deal extra damage and will have an easier time rolling, the end. Some elements beat the weaker, generally it goes,
Wind > Elec > Earth > Water > Fire (> Wind.)
With Darkness > Light (>Darkness)

>Then what is an attack type clash?
Generally speaking attacks can be classified in three types, the first are Strikes, which are precise speedy attacks, and the second are the Guards attacks, which are iron tight defensive maneuvers, with Crashes being the third type which are powerful moves that exist to overwhelm the opponent.

These three attack types have a triangle relationship, in which Crash>Guard>Strike (>Crash). When you use an attack that beats the attack of your opponent, you gain an advantage, which translates in some extra DC bonuses.

>What is the DS thing in the Stat Sheet?
It’s how much influence the source of Evil Right has over you, the higher it is… well you guys know how these things generally go, right?

>Why didn’t you include X option in the choices?
Most of the time I just write what comes first to mind. If you want to do something else, have a different idea or want to use one of the skills not listed, then use the Other Option. It’s there for a reason.

>Have there been any changes to skills?
Yes, thinking of changing the DC system to take into account enemy stats more… need to work it better.

“Eden, are you sure this is the place? Didn’t you get distracted again talking with some cute girl and got the wrong place?” You are Kouga, a young Saint that was chosen by the Black Pegasus Cloth and also the apprentice of the Witch, Medea, and right now you feel like you will get a headache.

“No, unlike you, I am not the type to get distracted by his base desires. So I will assure you this is the correct address. Mother sent you here, so if this is wrong address then take it up to her. Plus don’t doubt my work, unlike you, I at least understand the local language.” Eden’s newfound irritation was not helping you with it, but what really bothered was the place that Medea sent you.

The door simply read, “The Golden Canary Investigations, your cute magical detective girl agency!” and this gave you a huge headache. The sad thing was that you couldn’t just dismiss this as a stupid joke from Medea, not with these many magical barriers surrounding the place.

Even if this place was almost a joke, you know that there was a mage here, and that means you have to be alert.

“Kouga, is this place really bothering you?” How nice of Versa to care… but sadly right now she is also one of the sources of your current headache, so you want to ignore your fellow Black Saint a bit.

“No… I guess it’s nothing, let’s just enter.” The door was unlocked (to allow the world to enter this closed space) and inside the agency was a single room. Like something out of a noir novel, the dark room has an oppressive aura that feels alien with the city of Paris.

Thick shutters that block almost all light except a few faint rays of the sun, old whiskey bottles and cigars lying around, some broken lamps and a TV so ancient it must be older than you, and besides that an empty room with just a desk and a simple old telephone.

Just the right home for a classic detective, right? But sadly this is all a lie, an illusion made by the wishes of the caster. In the end it’s harmless, but what should you do?

WISE UP: Girl advice.

Before we do anything else, I have to ask you a single question. This is important Kouga, so I want you to take a moment and think before you answer. Let’s say if you had to choose between someone you loved or the world you fight for… which would you choose?

Sounds a bit stupid, right? But before even thinking about love, someone in your position should think about this first. At this point you are probably thinking of what you will do when the time comes, you should already be thinking about how what you will protect with your powers and what it means for those you care for.

What would you do if the people you loved didn’t accept the world you wanted to fight for, or if they chose to fight for something other than your ideals. Would you be willing to join them even if you thought their ideas were wrong, in the hopes of trying to change them? Or would you stick with what you believe in, hoping naively that they would be willing to change their hearts and join you eventually in your fight?

In the end, what I want to ask is this… are you the type of man who would be willing to throw away everything you believe in for the sake of someone you love, or are you the type of man who can throw away love for your ideals?

I know this is hard to think about, but the path you are about to take is not easy… but please consider this before anything, it will save you a ton of problems in the future.

You silently walk around the Detective Agency, taking in everything and analyzing the truth. Everything in this room is a temple, a lie that was carefully crafted to hide something from the world, but now that you are inside this thing might as well be useless.

With a snap of your right hand, the illusion is shattered, and in an instant the old detective office is replaced by an equally old library.

The size of the small room almost multiplied ten times, as shelves with almost an endless number of grimoire suddenly burst into existence. Several reagents hang from the ceiling, and now the dark room was illuminated by motes of light, a magic spell, that formed a complex arcane circle in the whole room.

In short, under the lie was the truth, this small office was in reality the base of a Magic Cabal, a complex fortress that shall never be found and broken.

But in the spot where the detective’s desk should have been, there sits the owner of this Atelier, the witch who turned the curse called darkness into light, the Witch of the Golden Dawn, Beatrice!

Her business suit didn’t fit someone who called herself a witch, but you still understand that the woman is quite beautiful, or rather she should have been, if at the moment, she wasn’t frowning at you. “I must admit I am honestly impressed, I never expected a child like you to break my illusion, but I am also impressed at how rude you are.

Illusion magic is something you don’t have many fond memories of, and Medea has already taught you extremely well what happens when you give a witch time to mess around with you.

Seeing that you haven’t said anything back, she just continues, “I see you are the silent type, I guess I can’t blame you, we witches have a horrible reputation, but I am sure you didn’t come here to just talk with me, Saint. So tell me why have you come here to my humble workshop?”

So she can tell that, even though you aren’t wearing your cloth, Eden and BT are thankfully staying silent, allowing you to think what to say.

For a moment, you want to fanboy a bit, after all this woman is one of your heroes, the Witch of Light herself, the one whose theories you used to develop your Evil Right and the Curse Matrix, but you are a professional and thus you will play this coolly.

“I am a student of magic, an apprentice witch. My name is Kouga, and I am sorry for disrupting your concealment charms. To be honest, I was unsure if this wasn’t a test… but it seems I ruined your spell, Lady Beatrice and for that I am sorry.” Surprisingly, you feel that you are being sincere about this, you really feel sorry for breaking her illusion… kinda.

“A witch, then did you come to become my apprentice? No, you don’t look like someone that fears the darkness, rather, seeing how the darkness clings to you so thickly, I could say that it loves you the most. No, someone like you has no reason to fear the darkness, so you must be here for something else. But before anything, Witch Kouga, do you know the first promise to be kept between mages?”

The first promise, “You mean to respect each other’s magic?” Medea always mentioned this when you trained with her, but you never really got that.

“Correct, that means to never try to deny the magic of another mage. To be honest, magic is just an illusion. A borrowed power that comes from an outside source. We, the powerless mages, cling to that illusion so we can dare to match those who inherited true power from the Gods and their fate… that’s why mages accept each other’s magic, we accept the lie of the other, so we can face the truth of the world together.” Magic is a lie… that’s not how it should work right? “To deny the magic of a fellow, means to deny their existence to our world… it means to kill them in a sense.”

“That’s what we call love, Kouga. To accept the lie even if we know otherwise… that’s the basic of being a mage. To accept our mutual lie that is the foundation that allows our magic to exist.” You really don’t get it, and the witch of light sees your confusion as she laughs, “Ha, I guess it’s too soon for you, but don’t worry Kouga, this is something that many mages never manage to understand, so just give it time. I am sure that one day you will understand what I am trying to mean, but considering who your master is I doubt she really cares about you getting along with your fellows.”

Hearing that your blood freezes, and your body tenses, you can now tell Beatrice is serious, “But we have talked enough, and I am sure that your friends are not interesting in this chat. So, apprentice of Medea, the Witch of Betrayal, why have you come to me today, what do you seek of me?”

She knows… and what? Witch of Betrayal why is she calling Medea that? At your side Eden also tenses when he hears his mother being called that, but you try to calm him down. Fighting a mage in their atelier is akin to suicide, the same as marching across a minefield to punch someone.

Just plain old suicide.

“What did my teacher do to you? Do you have a problem with Medea?” You know this is a sensitive subject and could get you into a fight, but this is the first time you have met someone who knew Medea that was not part of the Sanctuary, so you can’t say you aren’t curious about your teacher’s past.

Plus you feel that the title of the [Witch of Betrayal] is not something your Master would be proud of.

“What she did… hehe, that’s simple boy.” Beatrice’s business suit fades away into the light, and is instantly replaced by a witch’s outfit. Now before you stands the true witch of Light, the witch that has lived for over 200 years and has stood undefeated! “She was the one who committed the ultimate taboo, and betrayed the ones who welcome her. For that many would kill her and any who associates with her on sight, but I know Medea, and I understand why she betrayed us.”

“But…” The Witch of the Dawn pauses, and here you feel that she doesn’t know how to express what she feels, “She is someone that I can never forgive, and I doubt you will find many that do. That is why her name has been cursed a thousand times over and that’s why she has been branded with title such as the [Witch of Betrayal], the [Traitor of all Magic], or the [Witch of Denial] so that she never forgets what she did and the hate many feel for her.” Eden smartly stays silent, as a prince he is used to being emotionally smart about things and you are thankful for that.

You doubt that even a Gold Saint would win against Beatrice inside her atelier.

Cursed a thousand times over… did Medea really do something that bad? You know she is not a nice woman, but you never thought of your teacher as someone that would be cursed a thousand times over or would be called a traitor to all mages.

“But that is not important right now, Kouga, the sins of your master are not your sin, and thus I shall grant you the benefit of the doubt, and will extend to you a hand of friendship… but Witch of Darkness, Kouga, if you betray the trust I am placing in you… I won’t forgive you.” She means it, if you betray her she will kill you without hesitation and that makes it all scarier. “Unlike your master, you are not that weak to need to betray others, the light in your dark heart tells me that, so I will choose to believe in it. Now, Witch, tell me what do you seek from me? Let this act be the first foundation of our friendship.”

What do you seek? You probably should keep things simple, least you make this witch mad.

WISE UP: GIRL TALK II

So you are the type that would choose his ideals over those he loves, then I guess someone like you would make a great Martyr… just like she did. How funny, sometimes I feel that you and I are very similar… but in this we are different. I guess that’s why you also remind me of her too… which is heartbreaking for me.

Kouga, fighting only for your ideals will only lead you to ruin. What use is creating a perfect world in your image if you don’t have anyone to share it for? Aren’t you fighting to protect the world you share with the ones you love? So then why are you willing to discard them the moment they might become an obstacle for your ideals?

Kouga, living like that… if you live fighting only for your ideals, then the only thing you will ever save if yourself, Kouga. You will only save yourself and the things you believe in. Being that sort of idealist martyr will never make you happy, take it from me.

In the end it took me fighting against [him] and then siding with him against that bitch and [her] to really get it. The world that I wanted to create wasn’t just a world of freedom… but a world where [they] could also be free with me.

I guess what I want to say is that fighting for your ideals Is not all there is in this mess… you also should consider who you are fighting for too. Fighting for the sake of those you love is not wrong, Kouga! Please understand that! This might be heretical from someone like me, but maybe… maybe trying to balance both what you believe and those you love is probably the correct way to live in life. At least after seeing [him] and how he lived, I want to think that too.

I know this might sound stupid coming from me, but you have to think of this before even thinking of girls. I think this will save you a lot of pain in the future. Kouga, I am not a good example of how to deal with this dilemma… but if anything the only thing I hope is that you can learn from [him].

Learn to be strong and make your own choices, with your own free will, Kouga. That's what it means to be human.

Seeing you grimace, the witch smiles, “But while I deny the darkness, it doesn’t mean I can’t accept those who wield it, so Kouga, I can at least try to teach you about the light as I understand it, without teaching you my magic and it’s mysteries… it won’t be as effective, but it would be the best I can do for you in this situation. But if that is not enough to satisfy you, then I would recommend that you join my Cabal, together with me, we could research a new method for a child of the true darkness like you, to use the power of the light freely.”

You aren’t sure what to do, but joining the Cabal would mean having to spend more time here with the Witch Beatrice and getting new responsibilities from being a member of the same group as the Witch of Light. You could really consider up on the power of darkness just to learn magic from the Witch of Dawn… that would probably more than make up for it, and solve your problems with the Dark God.

But that would be the same as running away from it. Maybe you should just ask her to help you with your problem for now, but behind you see BT raising her hand, and holding a piece of metal?

Think of a cabal like a mni-club or a sub-faction. It means basically joining a small faction part-time, with everything that means joining a faction.

You will get her resources and get bonuses but also have to deal with their problems and their enemies too.

You have to be careful when considering to join many factions because you have limited time and your problems won't solve themselves.

Joining Beatrice in particular means that you will have to dedicate certain amount of time each month for researching the new magic, and also will shift your job into a more mage type (in the Saint vs Mage paradigm that Kogua has). You will also have to do some combat mission for Beatrice, and just more responsibilities man.

In the grater faction scale, not all witches/mages like Beatrice and some would consider joining her Cabal a betrayal to the darkness/witch-hood, Plus some Saints might not like you joining her, as they already don;'t like you even being a witch, and let's not talk about the church. Surprisingly, the Big Three (Chaos/Law/Neutral) Factions wouldn't care about this, so it is one of the easier sub-factions to join, if you want to.

Of course, joining one now means that you won't be able to join another sub-faction later (at least without getting Beatrice mad at you), so consider it carefully. the Golden Dawn is a useful tool for Kouga to grow stronger quickly in the light, but it has it's drawbacks, specially the high time, Beatrice will demand of Kouga.
