Well excuse me for not remembering the name of a clown mentioned for a moment in a movie I saw five years ago.

I remember randomly meeting him in San Francisco one time. He didn't act at all bothered when I quietly asked if he was Robin Williams and, when he confirmed it, if I could shake his hand. We spoke for a few minutes before I apologized for holding him up we parted ways. From the incredibly short time I spoke with him I got the impression he was a very kind man. The world is a poorer place with his absence.

Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.

It's not. This man, through his work brought happiness and joy to millions of kids. His more serious works gained international acclaim.

Most just don't influence so many people.

This guy acted and voiced in many movies and television shows that we cherish, and he was a /tg/ gamer to boot.

However, old man Belanger up the road just drank cheap beer and complained about gas prices.

Why do we give a shit about old man Belanger?

I wouldn't call it hypocrisy. His movies had an emotional impact on a lot of people, and thus they felt as if they had a connection to him in the sense that his roles contributed to them on an emotional level. That you'd be sad that someone who's had a very real impact on your life, whose face you've come to know and relate to, died, isn't something strange. That it's easier to get upset by it, than it is to be upset over an anonymous person's death, is very understandable.

I'm not a big fan of talk shows, but my folks used to watch 'em some, and I saw Robin Williams a few times way back in the day before I had moved out. The man was like an uncontrollable explosion. Any pretense of an orderly interview was gone within seconds as he'd just start ad-libbing, jumping from one subject to another at the speed of stream-of-consciousness. There was one interview early in Leno's reign at the Tonight Show that I found quite amusing for how out of sorts you could tell that Leno was for completely losing control of the conversation. It was one of the only times I've seen Leno be funny, and it really had nothing to do with him whatsoever. Anyway, I get the impression that Williams slowed down at least a little over the years, and became a bit less spastic, but way back then, that was some funny shit. Pic somewhat related--Williams on the Tonight Show in the old days, though not with Leno.

>Investigation into Death of Actor Robin Williams

>On August 11, 2014, at approximately 11:55 am, Marin County Communications received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting a male adult had been located unconscious and not breathing inside his residence in unincorporated Tiburon, CA. The Sheriff’s Office, as well as the Tiburon Fire Department and Southern Marin Fire Protection District were dispatched to the incident with emergency personnel arriving on scene at 12:00 pm. The male subject, pronounced deceased at 12:02 pm has been identified as Robin McLaurin Williams, a 63 year old resident of unincorporated Tiburon, CA.

>An investigation into the cause, manner, and circumstances of the death is currently underway by the Investigations and Coroner Divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary information developed during the investigation indicates Mr. Williams was last seen alive at his residence, where he resides with his wife, at approximately 10:00 pm on August 10, 2014. Mr. Williams was located this morning shortly before the 9-1-1 call was placed to Marin County Communications. At this time, the Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made. A forensic examination is currently scheduled for August 12, 2014 with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted.

I actually have a /tg/ related stry about this guy.
First off, I am an old guy, a lot older than most of the userbase here. Like, in my 40s. I am also a San Francisco native, which are about as common as DoDo birds these days.
Anyways, the point of this is that in the 90s, when I was working my way through my six years of college, I did so partly at my FLGS, called Gamescape. Still around to this day, owned by a cool old hippy guy who is a masterful go player, actually ranked and all that.
Anyways back in the pre-internet days, Robin would actually come to the shop and buy stuff. And I mean, lots of stuff. He'd come in and buy a sleeve of Warhammer 40k figs at a time, Orks and Eldar for him, and spess mahreens for his kiddo. Which was awesome because when he showed up we knew we'd have an awesome drawer that night and boss would be happy.
Now every time he came down without fail, someone would spazz out and have their fanboy moment. Thankfully he was never "glomped", because back then women never came into game stores, but pretty damn close. But he always was such a gentleman with those geeks....he'd indulge them for a couple minutes, make some wisecracks and jokes, and even sign autographs like a pro.
He also loved to talk shop with the counter monkeys for a few minutes while we rang up his giant pile of stuff. He really loved gaming, you could tell by the light in his eyes.He mostly was into the painting aspect of 40k though, he preferred the old Ral Partha paints to the Citadels .
I remember saying to him one day about how nice he was to the fanboys and he smiled his crinkly little smile and said "Well without your fans you're nothing. Besides, I remember what is was like being able to get excited about things". Then he snuck in a joke" You know, besides toy soldiers and cocaine" in his stand up voice. His normal voice was deep and soft and he was very very hairy.
Anyways, shit....he was a good dude and kind and we are all poorer for his absence.RIP good man.

>>
>>34070542
It may be that things have changed enough that it's hard to really appreciate their contribution today. That goes for the Beatles too. And hey, I'll give you that popularity is somewhat circular, so that the big guys inevitably get more attention than anybody deserves, but people need commonalities to bond and converse. In the old days, you could talk about the shit that was going on with the people you both knew, because you probably didn't get the chance to talk to people outside your larger social circle that often. These days when our culture is global, and there's a good chance we live thousands of miles apart, that's no longer the case. So we bond over entertainment, and funny people we've never met. At some level this may be a bit silly, but so is just about anything as life is ultimately kind of pointless, and everything we do is ultimately going to be lost to the passage of the eons.
>>
>>34071065

Could one you guys help me out. I'm trying to remember the name of a really wonderful Robin Williams movie I caught missed the start of on TV and it really stuck with me. He's taking care of his wife who I remember having something wrong with her and there's this scene that made me cry like a bitch where he says he loves his wife so much he'd die for her. The movie was set somewhere snowy and it had a tonne of Eels in the soundtrack.

You want to know rage?
Rage is when you realize that there are assholes who use this to garner a sick laugh for themselves.
Rage is when those asshole WBC fucks call for protests at his funeral. Just moments after the news gets out.
Rage is when you realize that all of these fuckers don't care about the fact that probably no one will cry for them when they're gone.

Rage is when I realize what true righteous hatred and fury really is.

I am the oncoming storm today. Today I mourn, tomorrow I'm gonna see if someone is rounding up a posse to protect Robin's service/funeral.

The Emperor, Khorne, Yagmoth, Pelor, whomever you align yourself with, we all share a common bond. But it is rare to see it in such volume. Let's not let his life go in vain, let's celebrate what he brought to our lives. Grieve in solidarity, not isolation.

Don't scorn him, pity him. Maybe he knows only isolation and refuses to accept that there are others who can feel, or maybe he just doesn't know how to trust others. Maybe he just prefers being alone. Whatever the case may be, let him be. Hopefully he'll reconsider our offer to join our brotherhood.

Maybe this is the right place to ask this...

Where did Mr. Rage go?
Baron von Evilsatan?
Xiombarg's Storyteller?

Other namefags that have been gone?

Did they die? Or just lose interest? I remember having to go away for awhile and then... I came back and all the names were different, even if the culture was the same.

>Other namefags that have been gone?
The Collector?

And now that I think about it, I haven't seen Esh-Esh or Gropey for quite a while now.

Rage still hangs out on suptg from what I understand

Xiombarg's Storyteller was supposedly quite ill. If the pictures posted are to be believed, she had some sort of condition that made her dangerously underweight. Assuming all that was true, Xiombarg's Storyteller may well be dead.

The rest? People change. As much as people love to wave the "you're here forever" banner around, people aren't. They change and gain interests and lose interests. Some of them stick around but drop the name. Others go elsewhere. And, yes, some may have died.

I've been here a long time, and I've seen many come and go. It will always be as such, and there's nothing to be done about it. Remember the ones you like, and honor their memory by posting in a way that would have made /tg/ what they would have wanted. Nothing else you can do.

I don't want your gay ass pity, though

Then don't take it, let it go unnoticed, then it will be lost to the sands of time just as everything else will be. It is an offer, not a command.

may he join such hallowed names as Fred Rogers, Bob Ross, Carl Sagan, Douglas Adams, and Kromgol.

it is the hard times that bring us together.

Love your family and friends a little harder, please. They'll all be gone some day and it could be sooner than you think. Before you know it it could be just like this thread.. a memory.

be happy, friends. He wouldn't want it to be otherwise.

This is the first ever proper reply I've ever made on 4chan. I've been lurking all this time. This occasion seems worth breaking my silence

Robin Williams was an awesome fellow, and we will remember him. From what we know of him, he'd be happier if we kept on with our stuff, whether /tg/, /v/, or /a/, with fun and dignity, instead of wallowing in sorrow. Because he was a bro.

Good night, sweet prince.
