Grand Talon is a massive plain, greater than even the Salt Plains you once called home. The ground is covered in thick grass that sways in the breeze, and the sky is blue and vast. Critters roam the grass and soil, free from birds of prey. The ability to see so far so clearly is at times a bit overwhelming, but you adjust in time. Today, after a week of walking, you come to the point where Pietra stops the group.

"From here on out, it's tribal land. They don't love visitors. We should be able to avoid a fight if we're polite, but there's no telling what they'll think of us."

You ask if there are any rituals you should know in case you meet any of the tribes. Pietra scratches her head for a moment.

"I guess don't look them in the eye. Other than that, no idea. I've never met one. I just swiped some charts from the outpost before we left."

As Pietra finishes speaking, you feel a sudden yawn come on. When you shut your mouth again, you start to feel a bit wobbly on your feet. The others look at you funny.

You peel off your armor and throw down your bed. The others sit around the fire and talk as you lie down. Almost as soon as your head touches ground, the world begins going dark. Your body goes limp, and your eyelids grow heavy.

You suddenly smell peaches, and open your eyes. You look around and see a wide, bending sky above you. Beneath you is a stone circle, suspended in the air on seemingly nothing, but you can't see over the edges to confirm this. Across from you, standing on one hand, is a thin man in gold and red robes. He supports himself with a single finger, legs stretched straight up to the sky. A large spider sits on the back of his head, its many eyes focused on you.

The man leans back and sets his feet on the ground, standing upright. The spider hangs onto his head for dear life. He looks at you with a sort of dull smile, and with a motion of his hand the ground shifts, carrying him over to you.

"It has. I heard you calling to me before, but my powers are weak where you are. Luckily, the people of Grand Talon worship no gods, so I was able to touch you. It's been hard to keep an eye on you out here, but you seem well. How go things?"

The most I could do is give you some of my powers, but that would require some work on your part, not mine." The spider climbs down onto his shoulder and rubs its forelegs together by his ear. He seems to perk up at this. "You're right, but still, I-" The spider rubs its forelegs together once more, making light skittering sounds. "Okay, but there's no way to- huh? Mhm. Yeah. Alright." You accept the offer of new clerical magic. He seems taken aback by this, and can't find words.

"Uh, well...alright stand still." He pulls an arm back and suddenly thrusts his palm into your chest. The force takes the air out of your lungs and sends you flying back. So far back, that you soon find yourself freefalling down the side of the great stone tower. As you flail helplessly, he peers over the edge. "I'll send you a message soon! See you then!"

You bolt upright, gasping and sweating heavily. The rest of the camp seems to be sleeping soundly, except for Pietra who sits by the dying fire handling something you don't have time to see before she tucks it away behind her back. The sun seems to be on the cusp of rising over the distant mountains.

Slowly she releases it, and before your very eyes you see it begin to float in place, supported by nothing. Pietra then begins moving her hands around through space, and the dagger follows as though attached by marionette strings. As it moves, you hear small gusts of air, leading you to believe that it must be lifting itself by its own power.

"I can make it do all sorts of things, watch." The dagger begins twirling, spinning, dipping and slicing all around Pietra's body. She is able to send it thrusting at lightning speeds, then draw it back in just as quickly.

Pietra tucks the dagger away and the two of you start preparing breakfast.

Once everyone is awake and has eaten, you set out again. The day goes by rather smoothly for the most part, with everyone making small talk now and then. It isn't until the afternoon that you notice something odd. In the distance you see a light cloud of dust. At first you think nothing of it, but in a few minutes, after it seems to have grown larger, you determine it to be riders approaching. Whether they aim to intercept you in uncertain. You tell the others to lay low in the grass. Annalise and Pietra don't like the idea, but with a little reassurance they agree. You do however see them both draw their weapons as they get down. Hopefully it won't come to that.

You slowly approach the dust cloud. After only a half-mile, it grows close enough that you can make out the horses and mounted men. They carry oddly shaped weapons: they have the handles of normal longswords without crossguards, but the blades begin curving into great crescents about five inches from the hilt. They also carry lances made from strong wood but no metal, and shortbows. As they grow closer, you can make out leather and hide, but no metal armor to speak of. A hammer would do poorly against men armored to lightly. The leader is clearly distinguished from the rest by his wild headdress made from feathers and his facepaint, which shades his eyes black and runs down into a mixture of reds and blues.

When you finally meet, the horses come to a stop and rear up, likely meant to intimidate. The lead rider brings his mount across from you and stares down into your eyes. The warpaint gives him a monstrous look, and his temper doesn't help. He speaks, loud and booming, but the language sounds like grunts and clicks to your untrained ears.

You stand tall and address him firmly, though you don't really have a way to communicate beyond body language and inflection. He seems to grow displeased with you quickly, and proceeds to yelling as soon as you finish your own words. You continue this approach a little longer until he scoffs and turns back to one of his men. He shouts something, and the rider dismounts. The lead watches as he approaches you and says something, only this time in a different language. Different thought it might be, it's not completely unfamiliar. Maurice may be able to speak, but to call him out of hiding is to admit you have a man in hiding.

Maurice pops his head out of the grass and begins approaching. When you glance back at the riders, you see them whispering amongst themselves. This continues until Maurice arrives, panting lightly, and asks what the difficulty is. You explain the language barrier, and he agrees to attempt to bridge the gap. He moves around you and raises a hand as a gesture of peace before asking the standing rider to speak up. After a minute, Maurice turns back to you with a smile, and assures you that he can handle the task.

You agree to go along with them, but do not call your friends out of hiding. With that, you begin following the riders as they lead you back to their camp.

After a few hours of walking, you come to a stop. The lead rider shouts something, and all the other riders begin to dismount. You watch as the lead takes a few steps forward with the reigns of his horse still in hand, and reaches out to touch nothing. Suddenly, the air ripples as if over a great fire, and the riders begin leading their horses forward. They start to disappear behind a veil of wriggling air, and you and Maurice follow.

Once through, you are suddenly standing before a massive camp, able to fit at least ten thousand. The people are loud and busy, even though moments ago there was nothing ahead of you but empty plains and silence. You follow the riders into camp, and soon you are being looked over by every man, woman and child here. They say nothing, but clearly your presence here is uneasy.

You pass by one pointed tent after another, as well as wagons full of food and supplies. As you move through the veritable maze, you finally come to a stop as the lead rider enters a tent, and the others merely stand by.

"Sir," Maurice leans into you and whispers, despite the people here being unable to understand you. "I do believe this is the home of their 'mother'. Also, I don't think Miss Annalise and Pietra have followed us through the magic veil."

You lead the way and enter the tent. Once you are through the entrance, you are hit by the smell and thickness of smoke in the air. The smell is nearly noxious, and not helped by the poor ventilation. The only holy for the smoke to escape is directly overhead, but too small to even get your fist through. Before you is a circle of pillows stuffed with straw, and across from the entrance is a withered old woman wrapped in faded robes. They seem to be made of animal hair, and are decorated with hand painted patterns depicting horses, hands, and other such symbols. Her white hair is pulled into a tight ponytail, and her one visible hand holds a long and narrow pipe that emanates smoke from the smouldering end. You and Maurice sit down and cross your legs as she takes a puff from the pipe and exhales it, blowing a ring of smoke that floats across the distance between you and wreathes your face. "I believe that she is the village elder, as well as it's...mystic of sorts. She is responsible for the veil surrounding the camp." The old woman speaks again, and Maurice listens carefully before passing it along to you.

"She has apparently been spending her days in this tent, fasting and awaiting a vision from the great spirits, or something to that affect. Ever since Dordak Khan rose and reaped her people's most prized breed as tribute. The veil keeps him at bay, but they must go out to gather food and water, and it's only a matter of time before he finds out where they are. Two weeks ago, she finally felt the presence of the spirits, and they told her that a lord of the south would come to slay Dordak Khan, eat his heart, and mount the north as his prize." "She wishes you to watch the tribes greatest riders compete for the honor of riding by your side on the battlefield. It's some kind of ancient rite. You stand tall and motion at him rudely. You see rage build in his eyes. There is fire in him, without a doubt. But emotion is not always a boon in battle. You run at him, throwing all your weight into the attack. He catches you and tosses you around him. You roll in the dirt and right yourself just as he brings his leg around for a powerful kick.

You kick off of the ground and roll to one side to avoid the attack. As you right yourself, Thunder is upon you once more. He raises a thick leg and attempts to bring it down with a mighty stomp.

You open your arms and grab hold of his leg as it comes to you. It does make an impact on your chest, but your strength is more than enough to hold him. In fact, your strength feels to be bolstered somehow. You twist and pull him to the ground.

A) Pin him

If he's face down, kidney punch then pin

You roll over and lock up his leg. He struggles to break free, testing your endurance. The crowd watches in relative silence. Thunder begins shouting wildly, and refuses to give in despite his situation.

With a twist and a push, there comes a sickening pop. Thunder screams in pain as his leg is effectively crippled. You stand up and wipe the sweat from your forehead, looking out at the crowd. Many seem shocked, some are only silent. Shortly, a man steps forward. He wears a headdress similar to Thunders before arriving at the camp, and speaks to the people. Maurice comes up behind you and hands you your shirt, which you pull on as he translates.

"You have beaten the mightiest rider in the camp. You've proven your strength and ferocity, and so the elder will grant you her forces. Eight-hundred riders will now be your to command. Should I make arrangements then?"

A) Go ahead, I need to rest

You tell Maurice to set up another audience with the old woman. He nods and sets off. You begin strapping your armor back on, and just as you finish Maurice returns. You go with him back into the old woman's tent and sit down. Before you can even get comfortable, she begins speaking.

"She congratulates you on your victory. Mountain Thunder, er, 'Biolo' I should say, was a man of pride. He was far too eager to meet you in battle, and that was his undoing." The old woman draws from her pipe, exhales the smoke, and then turns it around and offers it to you.

You take the pipe and inhale a little of the smoke. It is rough going down, and worse coming up. You begin coughing uncontrollably, and hand the pipe to Maurice as you try to compose yourself. He takes a long, deep drag from it, and lets the smoke leave through his nostrils before passing it back to the old woman. She cackles at your discomfort.

Through the coughs, you manage to get your question out. Maurice translates quickly.

"Dordak Khan sends his underlings to search for the tribal camps every so often. The veil is a magic passed down from elder to elder since ancient times, but only recently have the tribes needed it. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to master, and should any of the elders perish before Dordak Khan is slain, their people will be exposed. However, now that you have proven yourself to the White Pine, the other tribes may be more willing to listen to you. As for Dordak Khan himself, all she knows is what her scouts tell her. He spent one month putting the great cities under his rule, and then demanded tribute. He has three drakes, although I suppose you brought that down to two. At any rate, they are his mightiest tools, other than his own powers." The old woman makes a grand gesture with her one visible hand, and Maurice is taken aback slightly.

"It seems that she does know one thing about Dordak Khan. He fears few things, but he does fear lightning. He has never taken wing during a storm."

A) Thank her
B) Ask something else
C) Other

You thank her for her help, and leave her tent. Outside, you take a few deep breaths of fresh air to clear your lungs. As you do, Maurice taps you on the shoulder and points across the camp. You look over and are shocked by what you see.

A team of men are dragging prisoners through the camp by ropes. The ropes themselves are tied around their ankles, and all three of them struggle to break free. The people of the camp hoot and holler as they are made an example of, screaming and shouting through gagged mouths. You don't want to believe it at first, but the three of them are in fact Pietra, Annalise, and Kor.
