This time, we'll do the inverse of last time! That is, we'll start off with Mokarin and switch to either Akari or Mato, depending on stuff and things!

Remind me to do a Mami-PoV flashback to July 21st sometime.

>WD-001 'MOKARIN' IS ONLINE
>ALL SYSTEMS NOMINAL
>'RAGING HEART' M.E.W.S. IS FUNCTIONING AT FULL CAPACITY

>DIRECTIVES: UNCHANGED

>CURRENT OBJECTIVE: ACCOMPANY FATE AND ENSURE HER CONTINUED EXISTENCE

You are WD-001, the most advanced (and second cutest, after that stupid kitten with its stupid maracas) artificial intelligence and gynoid combat chassis in the world. Your mother and father provided you with the designation 'MOKARIN', and you have already made great strides towards achieving your goals.

More specifically, you have already acquired an aesthetically pleasing female cyborg whose designation is 'Fate.'

It was easy, really. Approximately thirteen hours ago, you activated your cuteness protocols and your 'Mommy, can I keep her' subroutines, and the turquoise-headed technopath was like putty in your hands.

Mother once told you that if you met a girl with high-quality, custom-made cybernetic implants, you would be a fool not to claim her.

Of course, mother /is/ rather strange, but one would have to be blind to not see that Fate has servos in all the right places- not to mention those cold, hard red eyes of hers.

On top of that, she seems like a nice girl, she doesn't have one of those strange 'surname' things that everyone else seems to have, AND she has electricity powers.

Your batteries will never go un-charged again!

Not that they ever have or anything, but, it's a nice thing to be secure in.
>>

Even now, as the two of you walk towards your destination, she's holding her sleek, black, exquisitely-crafted arms out in front of her and sending bolts of electricity arcing from one hand to the other.

Oh, right. Your destination.

You've just been following Fate, after all. You've no idea where you're going, other than SOUTH-SOUTHWEST at approximately TWO POINT SEVEN THREE KNOTS.

You should probably ask her where you're going...

>INQUIRY PROTOCOLS ACTIVATED

“Fate-”

She glances over her shoulder at you. “Oh, you're probably wondering where we're headed, right? We're going to visit a friend of a friend. Uh... Yutaka Kobayakawa, I think. Minami'd have a panic attack if I didn't check in on her at least once.”

“So... we need to inspect this Yutaka person?”

>UPDATING MISSION OBJECTIVES: INSPECT YUTAKA

Fate chuckles. “Yeah, pretty much. She's got some kinda crazy regeneration ability, but she's sick all the time anyways. Poor kid.” She pauses. “I say 'poor kid', but she's my age. I guess that's pretty rude, huh?”

She seems to be directing a question about etiquette at you. Why on earth would she do that?

Perhaps it's some sort of test? Is this what a human mating ritual is like?

>CONSULTING INTERNET.

Hmm. If it /is/ a human mating ritual, then Fate is employing very long-term strategies.

You are unsure how to feel about this. Flattered? Embarrassed? Victorious?

Well, you do know one thing: you feel something anomalous in your lower torso.

>SCAN COMPLETE. NO INSTANCES OF INSECTS OF ORDER LEPIDOPTERA DETECTED.

How bizarre.

You brace yourself for pain and humiliation and failure and also possibly deactivation and issue your response. “I do not think you are rude. I think you are nice and good and also very attractive.”
>>
She stops and looks at you strangely for a moment. Her face is red in the areas between either of her cheek-bones and her proboscis. She smiles a little. “Th- thanks.”

And there go those bizarre sensations again. They are uncomfortable, but also nice. How strange.

… Emotions are confusing.

Why couldn't mother have given you some sort of instruction manual?

Perhaps this is that 'love' thing. Should one love one's future wife? You were under the impression that love and marriage were largely separate things, but perhaps you were mistaken?

Fate stops in front of a rather nice-looking residential housing building. “And we're here!”

>DESTINATION REACHED.
>APPROXIMATE TRAVEL TIME: 347.3482 SECONDS

Fate looks at a listing of names on a wall, mutters, “Kobayakawa,” approximately seventeen times before muttering, “Oh, right, she lives with her cousin, doesn't she?”

Then, she mutters, “Izumi” approximately nine point four two times before exclaiming, “Ah-ha!”

She turns to you, an excited look on her face, then frowns. “If I'd told you what I was looking for, you coulda helped, huh?”

You nod. “That is correct.”

She scratches the back of her head and laughs awkwardly. “Sorry about that. I'm just used to doing this kinda thing alone, y'know? Having someone along is... different.”

Different?

You are uncertain of the meaning of 'different' in this situation.

>INQUIRY PROTOCOLS ACTIVATED

You don't even get to execute 'what_does_that_mean_in_this_context.exe,' however, as Fate seems to have some sort of foresight when it comes to your questions.

“I don't mean different in a bad way,” she explains, “having someone to back me up is nice. It's a reassuring feeling, just... not one I'm particularly used to.”
>>
>>33988129
Smooth.
>>
She pauses as the two of you board the elevator and begin your ascent. “I mean, I've got the gang and all, but I've always just kinda avoided dragging them into stuff. Didn't wanna involve 'em, y'know?”

She snorts and shakes her head. “I guess they got involved anyways, huh?”

On that awkward note, the two of you exit the elevator at the appropriate floor, then approach the relevant door and ring the 'door-bell' -via the button mounted in the wall by the door- and wait patiently for approximately 7.361 seconds until it swings open.

A middle-aged human male with blue hair that is remarkably not-peculiar (for some reason) is revealed to be the one who opened the door, and lets you and Fate enter the domicile when she introduces you as “friends of Yutaka's.”

He directs you to the room in which the PRIMARY OBJECTIVE resides, cautions you that she is ill (and probably asleep), then appends the warning with a statement along the lines of, 'but if you're her friends, you probably know that already.'

Thus informed, you follow Fate to the designated bedroom door.

As she reaches for the doorknob, you stop her by gently placing your hand atop hers.

She turns red again and looks at you, probably surprised, and you shush her.

>ENHANCING MICROPHONE SENSITIVITY

You hear the gentle mouth-wind of a small, dormant human.

“The PRIMARY OBJECTIVE is asleep,” you whisper, and Fate nods. Slowly, gently, she turns the knob and opens the door.

Yutaka is in bed, asleep, just as you thought.

Briefly, you wonder if the phrase, 'cute as a button' is applicable here.

Then, you scan her.

“She appears to be in acceptable physical condition,” you state, “but her WBC is low and she appears to be sick.”

Fate nods and smiles a little. “Good. Iwasaki'd kill me if something happened to her.”

“I am uncomfortable with the concept of you being murdered.”

She snorts as the door clicks closed behind her. “Yeah, so am I.”

You frown at the combination clock-calender-thing.

>July 22, 11:05 a.m..

Really, you're just trying to not look into Mami's eyes. Because she's staring at you so hard that she's actually starting to burn through your coat.

Literally.

She's literally starting to burn your coat with her glaring.

That's what being Level 4 is like, you guess.

You're Mato Tsuruya, an esper with an 'anomalous' bio-manipulation ability, and you're pretty sure that Mami is especially angry now that you've told her that Akari won't be present for the tongue-lashing.

“Staring at the clock isn't going to make time go any faster, Tsuruya-san,” she states coldly, crossing her arms and frowning at you in a way that makes you feel like a very small and very-much-in-trouble child.

You mutter a “S-sorry, Mami-sempai,” and suddenly find your boots to be incredibly interesting.

“Sorry isn't good enough,” she says as she begins to pace back and forth, “you've disobeyed direct orders from me twice, now, and you've nearly gotten both yourself and your precious Takamichi-san seriously hurt- or very probably even worse- both times.”

She sighs. It's the kind of sigh that someone who's incredibly disappointed in someone makes.
It feels bad.
>>
She stops pacing and just looks at you for a few moments. “Your run-in with the Mop-man, I can understand. It was a chance encounter that I should have more carefully warned you about, and both you and Takamichi-san handled the situation rather admirably.”

You resist the urge to say something like 'thanks' or, 'aww, it wasn't that big a deal,' but you just know that there's about to be a BUT-

“But-”

Called it.

“-your actions yesterday were... rash, to say the least. You could have been killed. KILLED, MATO-CHAN. Do you understand? You were moments away from a swift and violent death. All because you didn't follow my orders.” She sighs. “What do you have to say for yourself?

You take a deep breath.

Part of you says to throw Akari under the bus.

The rest of you wants to slap that part of you! How dare it!

You exhale.

And you tell Mami the truth.

“Ah, I see. You left the decision-making up to Akari-chan, and did your level best to support her. So, while Akari called the shots, you didn't try to set her straight.”

She smiles ever-so-slightly. “I can tell you're being honest, Mato-chan.” She shakes her head. “For a second there, I thought you were going to try to take the blame all for yourself- if you were anyone else, I'd have half-expected you to try and pin the blame on Akari-chan, but my Mato-chan's much better than that!”

Ouch.

She really thought you'd be that selfless?

She leans over and pats you on the head. “You're dismissed for today. I don't want to send you off on patrol alone after almost getting yourself and your partner horribly maimed or killed two days in a row, after all.”

You are Akari Takamichi, you've just finished scolding Nee-chan and Tsuruya-san for conspiring to implant a microchip in the back of your head, and you're on fire again.

You're burning pretty hot, too. Hot enough that the two eldest sisters look pretty uncomfortably-hot even from where they're situated- which is the far side of the room, sitting together in a chair clearly designed with one occupant in mind.

“Even if another chip would work, she'd have to stop being on fire for me to implant it,” Miku muses.

Nee-chan scratches her chin. “Do you have anything else we could try?”

Miku shakes her head. “Nope. Unless a fire extinguisher counts?”

You cross your arms and glare. “No.” You're pretty peeved. Maybe a little /too/ peeved.

Miku frowns. “Wait, you're not on fire because you're still angry, are you?”

“What's there to be mad about? Akari-chan's more mature than that, Miku.”

You glare harder.

Maturity has nothing to do with it! They can't just go around putting things in people's heads!

Miku's right, though- you're still mad, and you have been ever since you woke up. You've also been on fire since then.

There's probably a connection there.

Maybe if you could just calm down...?

… It's really hard to be calm when you're standing in the center of a raging inferno.

Unless one of them has something up a sleeve, you're on your own in solving this dilemma.

You're managing the fire pretty well, so it's not too big, but that only makes it hotter.

>>33990614
Go for a walk. Maybe visit a park, what could possibly go wrong?

More seriously try to get our mind off of the whole chip thing, maybe think about how if we can't control this and calm down we won't be able to take the Esper Classification tests, which means the scientists will never give us ice cream for reaching level 5. And we are going to get that ice cream.

She's trying to drive home a point about personal realities. It doesn't seem to be inaccurate either.

We should probably accept what she has to say next time. It's not like she's convincing us to burn puppies or anything. We're the ones who choose what world we enforce on others.

Yeeeeaaaaaaah, no.

You're outta this joint!

You make your way to the exit and out onto the street...

It's all still the same weird, nondescript-

Black and white.

Everything's monochrome!

You and purple-bitch are the only non-gray things here.

You're also the only things that aren't entirely nondescript.

Every car is entirely generic, as is every man, woman, child, building, sign, light- there's nothing distinguishable about anything here.

You duck a split-second before the leathery purple whip cracks through the space your head was occupying just a moment ago and roll to the side, dodging a second lashing in the process.

What kind of sadistic freak uses a whip in combat, anyways?

You sprint off in a random direction.

Apparently, purple's wearing heels or something, because she just can't catch up.

… You don't know how far you've run or how long you've been running. You can't tell the difference between any of the buildings.

You're starting to get tired, though.

None of the faceless people pay you any mind unless you run into them, in which case they just act annoyed and move on.

The cars all follow traffic laws perfectly, many of them of their own accord.

There's only one thing left to do, you suppose.

Ya gotta burn the whip! You burned her to cinders last time, and apparently that didn't deter her, so the only logical course of action is to disarm her and ask her what the hell is going on!

You slip into a darkened alley, where a faceless hobo throws a half-eaten and also-faceless fish at you after you bump into him.

After several minutes of awkwardly standing around with the hobo, you hear the clacking of purple-head's heels on the pavement.

Seriously, why doesn't she just take them off?

She rounds the corner and stops, and you strike! Her stupid whip-thing goes from purple leather-stuff to a pile of ash in no time flat.

She begins looking all around, and turns to face you when you step out of your shady alleyway (which, conveniently enough, wasn't as bright as day like everything else is).

You've quite a few questions, so you might as well start with the simplest.

“Who are you?”

“Doctor Precia Testarossa, head of Project Paradigm Shift, visionary, revolutionary, and so on and so forth.”

… Uh-huh. So THIS is Fate's mother, then.

“Where are we? What's going on? What do you want?”

She grins. “Where are we? It's hard to say! Samuel always has the nicest ways of surprising me, you know!” She twirls around and laughs. “I'd say we're in the nightmare of a dream, yes I would, yes I would!” She giggles like a schoolgirl.

“As for what's going on, if you haven't figured it out by this point, then it must be working, because I'm trying to break you! Yep, yep, I'll make you SNAP!” More laughter.

“And the only thing I really want is for humanity to move on to the next step! All I ask is that the inferiors lay down and die! Is that so much to ask?”

It's like she gets crazier every time she opens her mouth.

“Why me? Why not a Level 5 or something? What did I ever do to you?”

She laughs, and laughs, and then stops. Then, she laughs again.

“... how do I get out of this place? How do I leave?”

She tilts her head and laughs some more.

“Silly child! If you want to leave, then you must simply /leave/!” She giggles again.

This is creepy.

You grimace. “What the hell is wrong with you?”

“Sanity, m'dear! I'm far too sane! Yes, yes, faaaaaaaaaaaaaar too sunny for the loony bin!” She cackles.

You're not sure about this.

But 'just leave' was the most comprehensible and least insane thing that came out of her mouth, so it's probably worth a shot.

“Uh, bye... I guess.” You wave awkwardly at the crazy purple-haired woman who now seems to be doing something to the featureless pavement, turn, and... leave.

You... you're back.
Well, that was weird.

You're standing right were you were earlier.

The only difference is, Mato's hugging you and... asleep? Were the two of you sharing a standing-sleeping-hug?

Is that a world record or something?

The door swings open and Fate and Mokarin walk in, the latter sporting several rather disconcertingly-large holes in her torso and the former looking like she went skydiving in a hurricane.

“Good morning, sunshine,” Fate says, “welcome to the 23rd of July. You slept standing up through the 22nd, I guess.”

Mokarin looks at you for a moment. “I never thought I would be more afraid of chickens than velociraptors.”

… Huh?

Fate notices your expression and laughs. “Long story. Suffice it to say, my mother is insane.”

“Tell me about it,” you complain, “she was chasing me around with a whip and shouting weird stuff at me and everything.”

Fate puts a hand over her mouth. “Oh, shit! I'm so sorry about that- I completely forgot to kill Sam!”

Mokarin crosses her arms. “Funny, isn't it, that a 'superior' human brain can lose data but my little old hard drives can't?”

Fate frowns. “You know that's not what I meant by that, and I've apologized for it already! Just drop it!”

You squeeze Mato a little tighter. Maybe you need to “Leave” again?

Oh well. At least you're not on fire anymore.

Assuming we go full burninate mode, approximately how hot can we get at this point? I suspect fireproofing isn't going to work for much longer.
>>
>>33996569
HA! No. Precia's crazy strong.

Actually, she's literally that.

Fate meant to kill Sam... probably every time they met?

He's kinda like that.

>>33996572
Hot. Muy caliente!
I think.
Much rainbow power!

>(and second cutest, after that stupid kitten with its stupid maracas)
Please tell me kittybot is on the encounter tables.
>>
>>33996567
When she says she "forgot" to kill him that implies that she wanted to kill him, and probably still would given the chance. And I'm fairly sure thats against the law or something.
Assuming Akari is around to do something about it, of course.

If nothing else we can at least give her a good lecture about how killing is wrong and how important it is to take the bad guys in alive.

>Fate is best cyborg.
Isn't Miku a cyborg too? Who does Mokarin love more, her mother or Fate?

Anon, have you SEEN my encounter tables?

...
No, I suppose you haven't.

I have BUTT GHOSTS on there.

BUTT. GHOSTS.

Everything's on an encounter table in one existence or another.

Kyuubey's encounter table is a goddamn masterpiece, by the way. I can't even describe how great it is with words.

... Is it really so important, anon?
>>

>... Is it really so important, anon?
Curing Feito of her delinquent ways is TOP PRIORITY. Even if her gang isn't really a gang and she just says that to look cool.
>>
>>33996795
Just accept it, anon.
Miku is inferior to Fate, just accept it.

But Mokarin still doesn't know how to measure love. I'd recommend teaspoons, but that's just me

>>33996844
Wait, Fate's gang doesn't have a name yet

This is unacceptable!
>>
>>33996799
>... Is it really so important, anon?

Not that anon, but considering she works for a law enforcement agency, death threats are kind of a serious issue, and all things considered, it was clearly not meant in jest.
Bringing Fate on the straight and narrow is important to ship her with Mokarin afterall.

Name them SKILL IN.
>>

>Bringing Fate on the straight and narrow is important to ship her with Mokarin afterall.
That's true, but Mokarin is enough of a justicebot to correct her girlfriend's perceived deficiencies without our help.
>>

Okay. I'll let you guys do that your own way, I think.

... Wait, when does summer break end?

Oh, August 31! Thanks, RAILDEX CALENDER THING!

>>33996928
Marry me
then file for divorce
and marry me again

>>33996965
... Is she?

I mean, she's afraid of velociraptors.
And chickens.

Also, she probably doesn't have a pilot's license, so she shouldn't be allowed to fly.
And don't even get me started on her murder stick!
>>
Seems like that's it, then.

Good night, all, and thanks for participating! Or lurking.

Y'know, for being there and stuff.
>>
>>33999223
Thanks for running!
