You are Sireyi Valyenya, 18 years old, you are on your first quest.

You have retrieved the Horn of Alzurad: a legendary artefact that can call dead heroes back to fight for the holder of the Horn. But now you’re lost on another plane, trying to find your way home.

Mistress Ilveyen offered to change you through the power of her flesh-sculpting, you decided that it requires more thought before making such a decision. You’re still at the House of Flesh, downstairs after getting dressed.

Now that she has agreed to give Dravere his heart back, you could simply ask her to do so, accomplishing your objective, but these two were in love once, perhaps they still have feeling for one another.

What shall you do?
Please pick only one
>Mission accomplished, nothing further to do
>Talk to Ilveyen about her feeling for Dravere
>Go talk to Dravere about his feeling for Ilveyen

[Metaquest Post]

Ok, I failed to properly explain some of the voting options last time, and fucked up the Final Destination voting, I’ll try and avoid that in future.

I apologise for any confusion or upset caused.

To clarify the Something Else option was supposed to be “add additional limbs” as I felt that transforming existing limbs into something else (replacing legs with snake tail, satyr-like legs with backwards-bending knees, turning into a centaur etc) was taking things a bit too far.

However, it seems many of the players thought that was an option and/or wanted it to be an option, so we might as well include it.

I’m taking as written that one of the options was General Improvements (stats) – though the vote between pure Agility and All was very close, so I think a re-vote on that is best.

We’ll re-vote on general categories:
General Improvements (additional pick)
Limb Upgrades (Something Else renamed)
Animal Abilities (As before)

Custom Job removed as an option because it got no votes I could see.

I’ll re-open the voting later in the thread, when we have enough players, might leave it to the end of the thread.

Until then, feel free to discuss as well as suggest extra options to add to each category. Please don’t feel bad if I don’t include your suggestion – I may see it as overpowered or thematically wrong. Ant-Strength for example is not an option – pick Str boost from General Improvements for that.

Planned Options

Limb Upgrades
Extra limbs (as before)
Prehensile Hair (increase in length included)

pt1
>>
>>33980070
Animal Abilities
Extreme Flexibility (all joints, and some bones, can twist and stretch beyond human limits)
Chameleon Skin (allows complex tattoo-like patterns as well as camouflage)
Pheromones that trigger emotions in those nearby (not automatically a magical realm thing – can be used to calm someone for example)
Regeneration (down-time healing, restores lost limbs/body parts, does not cause rapid ageing)
Toughened Bones (bones almost unbreakable – requires extreme physical strength, or magic)
Unusual Senses (smell emotions, echolocation, see heat etc)
Wall-Crawling
Webs

“Would we already fully know how to work with our new limbs?”
For the sake of convenience yes – we’ll bypass the years it might take in real life to adjust to a new limb.

“Is Sireyi a half-dragon?”
No. Sireyi is not a half-dragon in an in-game or setting sense: Her children will not have draconic appearance or abilities, nor is she affected by dragon-specific effects (unless transformed using Aspect of the Dragon).

Due to taking Ebonsong as a familiar she has access to powers normally restricted to half-dragons: Transforming into a dragon, breath-weapon etc.

These are not spells: rather they are spell-like powers that are part spell, part natural power.

I can see how someone could categorise her as half-dragon (or half-elemental) but I see this as more her having access to specific powers, rather than an underlying physical change.

To put it another way: She only has access to these powers due to her link to Ebonsong – if that link was broken, she would lose the powers. She’s more of an adopted dragon than a half-dragon.

I think I'll vote for 1) general stat bonus and 2) agility bonus as upgrades.

Although I wouldn't mind regeneration or toughened bones in place of one of those.
>>
>>33980141

Oh also

>girl talk about Ilveyen's feelings for Dravere
>>
>>33980084
I gather that the first change (general improvement) remains chosen?
>Extreme Flexibility (all joints, and some bones, can twist and stretch beyond human limits)
>Chameleon Skin (allows complex tattoo-like patterns as well as camouflage)
I still like those two. Not obvious if we don't want to show them, but useful and fun nonetheless.

>Regeneration (down-time healing, restores lost limbs/body parts, does not cause rapid aging)
Not bad, but mostly redundant our other options. Might be useful if we don't want to use divine abilities.
>Toughened Bones (bones almost unbreakable – requires extreme physical strength, or magic)
I would be ok with that as well.

> due to her link to Ebonsong
Ah, I thought a huge part was that the elder dragon infused his blood into us. Good to know.

Alright. Posting from my phone due to reasons.
>talk to ilveyen about her feelings for dravere

>>33980070
Regarding the upgrade.
I'll try and make the vote later but I'm liking the stat improvement ALL or regeneratation boost and the prehensile hair. It just seems like a rather neat unobtrusive physical modification that could proof rather useful and difficult to effectively combat
>>
“You and Dravere loved each other once” you say “Have you ever wondered how things might been?”

“I used to” says Ilveyen “but not for a long time now, let him rot, I’ve no further interest in him.”

“And yet you kept his heart all this time” you counter

“As a trophy” she insists “I kept it to prove to him that I was stronger than he was, and to remind myself never to fall in love again.”

She seems pretty sure that this isn’t going to work out

>Ah well, can’t win them all, I’m done here
>Try to convince her to give Dravere another chance (how?)
>>
>>33980196

Tell him what he told us, that he seemed more skeptical than merely disinterested. Perhaps she could try to understand his point of view before she tears out his heart next time. (not in those words). Then tell her goodbye and let's move on.
>>
>>33980193
>I gather that the first change (general improvement) remains chosen?

Yes, I'm sticking with stat boost as first choice, though exactly which stats get boosted remains up for voting.

The second option is open.

“When I spoke to Dravere” you say “he seemed skeptical that you would ever change your mind, he didn’t seem like he hated you, more that he regretted his choices.”

Ilveyen shakes her head “In another lifetime, perhaps that would matter.”

You say a polite goodbye and leave, meeting up with your allies before moving on.

You make your way back to Dravere’s place. After you knock loudly at the door for several minutes he wakes up and lets you in.

“Yeah?” he says

“I’ve convinced Ilveyen to give you your heart back” you say.

Emotions chase across his expression: shock, disbelief, joy, and finally he settles on amused “All right, so when should I turn up at the House of Flesh?”

You decide to take Dravere to the House of Flesh later. You return to Ellahi’s house and tell her the good news.

Angelique tells you that her mistress is enjoying a bath in her custom-built bath house, and that she expects to be there for the next several hours.

“The mistress told me to tell you that all of you are welcome to join her. As the bath house is usually filled with steam, she recommends leaving your clothes in the changing rooms.”

You all decide to go and see Ellahi. You separate off into changing rooms and put on the long robes provided.

Entering the bath house you can see several large round baths, each of a size suitable for a couple dozen human-sized people. Some have steam rising from them, others don’t. Each is a circular shape with a ridge around the inside so that you can comfortably sit down with just your head above the water or you can swim out into the depths.

You can see Ellahi sat in the one with the thickest steam, her head back and her eyes closed.

“Ellahi?” you ask, wondering if she’s asleep.

“Hmm, oh? What? Oh Sireyi” she says, grinning “And friends I see.”

She stands up, the water coming to mid-waist height, she’s naked “Come and join me.”

You take off your robe and sit in the bath with her. It’s so hot it’s almost painful. Sofia joins you, and seems perfectly confortable in the high temperature. Jal hangs back, unwilling to enter the water.

Bokin heads to the coldest bath available and Gendric sits in one nearby, the two of them talking, though they still seem to be figuring each other out.

“What’s the matter?” you ask Jal.

She looks at you, somewhat nervous “Can’t swim” she says.

“That’s ok” you say “You can just sit on the edge.”

“Oh for-“ says Sofia “It’s not deep, look” she wades out into the deepest part, her head still above the water “Get in here you baby.”

Jal gets a mulish expression, then strips off her robe in one go and takes a flying leap into the water She surfaces yelling and swearing “You ole cob!” she says to Sofia “Ya coulda told me this were a billy pan!”

Sofia just laughs at her.

You leave the two of them to their own entertainments and talk to Ellahi, telling her about your success with Dravere and Ilveyen. As you do so you notice her slowly edging along the seat until you are hip-to-hip and shoulder-to-shoulder, Ellahi’s arm creeps around your shoulders and you can feel her tail winding its way around your leg, the tip trailing along your inner thigh, working its way upwards.

You firmly grasp the tipped appendage and unwind it from your leg, giving Ellahi a pointed look “Not an invitation, or an opportunity, sister” you say firmly

“Just being friendly” she chuckles, but backs off.

“Ilveyen offered to modify me” you say “She said I could pick two changes of my choice.”

Or maybe a retractable something for you to use on your two girls?” She nods at Sofia and Jal and leers at you “It’s always the prim and proper ones who are into the strangest things in bed.”

“I haven’t decided” you say, ignoring her attempts to shock you “I need to think about it.”

Her eyes widen slightly “Would you sell me one? Please?”

“Maybe” you say “How’s your health?”

She shrugs, sending ripples through the water “Well enough, no changes yet.”

“The other tasks” you say “Any more information there?”

“Not really” she says “Nothing has changed there either, though if you want to discuss a specific task, we can.” She trails her fingers down your spine, in-between your wings “Though there are better ways to pass the time.”

As far as regeneration goes, I'm interpreting 'down-time healing' as an out-of-battle full or partial heal, similar to how the regen bracer works.
The real benefit is that it'd regrow limbs and organs, since replacing those is evidently very high-tier healing magic.
Also, the boosted natural healing rate makes using HP as DE more viable, since we'll recover a lot faster.

>What will you offer me for a body-mod?

Reminder that Hanandrirac is a trap option and one of his powers is to route-lock us out of better options in future encounters or undo things we've done in the past.

>>
“What will you offer me for a body-mod?” you ask.

Ellahi ponders the question “What do you want? Money, magic items?”

“What should I do about Gulkil?” you ask

“Ugh” says Ellahi “If he can’t be convinced to help, perhaps you need to speak to Hanadrirac, either that or I’ll need to have Gulkil killed”

“And how should I deal with Hanadrirac?” you ask

“Tricky” she says “He probably won’t attack you outright, but he’ll try and sucker you into a bad bargain, if you deal with him at all, find out what he wants, but don’t agree to anything, and then come back here so we can talk it over together.”

“And Sumin?” you ask

“Double-ick” she says “You can either try charming him into making bad bets – and watch out for his hands – or I could get you registered as an arena fighter and I’ll spread rumours about you being a ringer and dead-set to win or lose.”

“Are the doctors ready yet?” you ask “Oh yes” she says, waving a hand dismissively “But there’s no rush, I feel fine.”

Gendric bursts out laughing, looking over you see Bokin sunk up to his eyeballs in the water, his hands over his face “Quit it” he says to Gendric.

He's just as powerful as a demon lord, or close enough that it doesn't matter.
He wouldn't even die if he's killed.
Either we circumvent him entirely by dealing with Gulkil directly or try to make a deal with him, but fighting him is just 'you lose' or at least 'you get part of your fate/past devoured'.
>>
>>33981268
He'll be decent practice before we kill the demon lords
>>
>>33981284
We were straight-up told we need the army of the horn to kill a demon lord, and that Hanandrirac is almost as powerful as the demon lords.
He's not 'practice', he is a full power end boss in his own right; we'd just die.

“How strong is the competition in the arena ? Would be better for us to try to win or to lose?” you ask.

“Well that depends” says Ellahi “How good a fighter are you? In any case there are two main divisions – the Regular Division and the Arcane Division. In the Regular Division no magic is permitted at all, purists prefer this one.
In the Arcane Division anything goes: magic weapons, spells, natural powers, anything. The bets are higher in the Arcane Division and the fights more impressive.
Sumin Fallos prefers the Arcane Division.”

“What's the joke, Gendric?” you call over.

“Oh nothing” he says, as Bokin groans in frustration and sinks lower in the water “It’s a guy thing” says Gendric with a chuckle.

“Did anything else that would require our attention happen? If not, I should get back to work” you say to Ellahi.

“Oh surely you can take a few hours off” says Ellahi.

Not that guy, but I don't think the fate eater is a joking matter. If we'll be fighting him, we better have really fuckhuge ace up our sleeve - and one that would not bring the demon lords on our heads if deployed. Which rules out usage of the elemental nodes. "No really, Gendric, what's so funny?" you ask, as you contemplate your options.

"Oh, just that this is Bokins first time in a mixed bath" says Gendric "You just never know what's going to pop up at any time. We were just talking about you and-"

There's a splash that looks like Bokin just punched him on the arm.

Bokin is now sunk so low in the water you wonder how he's able to breathe, he's glaring at Gendric.

Jal and Sofia's fight escalates. Sofia scrambles out of the bath and run off, naked and dripping wet, as Jal, also naked and wet, runs after her "Gonna batter you!" threatens the elf-girl as she chases.

"Really" says Ellahi archly "What do you feed them that makes them provide such entertainment?"

Bokin and Gendric politely look elsewhere as Jal pins Sofia down on the floor, trying to slap her as Sofia giggles and holds Jal off.

>>
“Are the arena fights to the death?” you ask Ellahi

“Oh no” she says “the professional fighters are too valuable. Whilst real weapons are used, fights last until one fighter surrenders or is deemed unable to fight. Killing ones foe is considered bad form and can result in fines and a ban. Slaves are kept on hand so that their life-force can be used to heal wounded fighters.”

You decide to get registered as an arena fighter and that everyone will be going with you. You have resolved to deal with Hanandrirac whilst you are there, you haven’t decided on how yet.

You spend some more time in the bath, before Angelique announces that dinner is ready to be served. You all get out of the baths and get dressed, though Bokin waits until last to leave.

Before dinner, Angelique offers Ellahi a bottle of green liquid, Ellahi doesn’t look too pleased but takes a few spoonfuls of whatever it is, with a grimace.

After a pleasant dinner you have a free evening. Tomorrow you’ll be getting on the airship, what will you do tonight?
You’ll only have time enough for one task

You cast your spell and slip into a semi-conscious state, reaching across the planes to contact Isla.
You find yourself in a well-tailored nobleman’s suit, walking across the courtyard of a small castle. As you approach the gates of the main keep a small door opens and Isla comes running out to see you. She runs up to you and embraces you, kissing you deeply. She’s dressed in a revealing dress, something you think she’d not have the courage to wear outside of a dream.

“My darling wife” she says “solving all the kingdoms problems, and still home in time for dinner.”

A pair of children with silvery hair, perhaps 10 years old, a girl and a boy, also coming running out of the door and rush up to you, hugging you tightly “missed you” says one, face pressed to your side.

“They’re getting so big now” says Isla “Aren’t our children wonderful?”

You take Isla by the shoulders “Isla this isn’t an ordinary dream” you say “I’m reaching out to you from another plane using a spell.” The dream ripples around you, like an image on the surface of a pond.

“Sireyi?” she says, disbelievingly then continues “Oh it is you!” and hugs you hard.

She then blushes deeply, looking around at where you are, and the two children by her side “I...um..this is...it’s not, I don’t...you what...” She stammers

“It’s ok” you say kindly “I have no right to tell you what to dream, but I came here to talk.”

“Of course, of course” she says, her dress changes to her more familiar travel clothes and the children fade from sight. She sits down on the edge of a fountain.

“We all panicked when you disappeared” she said “But I knew I had to keep everyone together, we went back to the church of Velya and the priestess there told us that you were ok. We’ve just arrived back on the Kingdom of Dornmer.”

The two of you exchange stories, there is not much of note to tell, except that they returned to the guilds in Silas, and have kept out of trouble. They still keep in touch, and Jianxi has found a ship that makes occasional trips to Kugan. She plans to leave in two weeks time.

Matthias has apparently learned how to control his shifting.

Comparing notes you realise that it has been 5 weeks for Islsa, but just over 15 weeks for you.

We can catch up to Jianxi easily. We don't know how long we will stay here but it will probably be more than 2 weeks in her world before we come back. I say Jianxi can go ahead, but should be exceedingly careful and not rush things. Given that the place from which we will re-enter our world will likely have little to do with the place we left, there is also no reason for our party to stay at that place. If any of them want to go help Jianxi, they are free to go.

“If Jianxi is set on going to Kugan” you say “make sure that you and Matthias go with her.”

She nods.

“And see if what you can find out about Lost Primes, Demond Lords called the Warrior, Sorcerer and Leader, as well as a demon called Hanandrirac” you say

“In case Jianxi believes this was just a dream” you say “Tell her about the tattoo she has on her back, just above her buttocks – she’ll know it was me then.”

Isla goes still “When did you see Jianxi’s ass?” she asks

“It’s not like that” you say “I had this vision of possible futures and-”

“And one of them had you and Jianxi naked?” asks Isla incredulously, her eyes wide

“I wasn’t naked” you explain “in the vision-”

“In the vision just Jianxi was naked” says Isla, breathing deeply, you don’t know if she’s upset or angry “What, was she dancing around naked for you? Was I there too?”

Ok, She’s missing the point.

“Thank you” you say “I’ve also found all sorts of interesting devices you’d enjoy, and-”

Isla flickers in and out of the dream “I think it’s morning here” she says sadly “I think I’m waking u-” And she’s gone.

You come out of the dream spell feeling fatigued, judging by the candle you set burning, it’s almost midnight, you decide to get some sleep, perhaps you can contact Isla again later.

The next morning you all make your way to the airship port. You board without incident, falling into your accustomed roles of Sireyi and Gendric being a married couple, Jal and Sofia as maids, and Bokin as your ogre bodyguard.

You spend several nights trying to contact Jianxi, before finally getting through to her.

You’re standing in a huge, opulent court, you are one of a line of petitioners approaching a throne, upon which is sat Jianxi – though her hair is longer, her face is perfect - free from any flaws, she’s taller, and her hips and chest are more generously proportioned.

Next to her, on a smaller throne, is Matthias, the two of them are holding hands. Standing before the throne, facing the petitioners is Isla, though her glasses are much larger than normal, and she reads aloud from a scroll each petitioners full name, place and date of birth, town of residence, occupation, known family, any criminal record they have and various other facts, until Jianxi interrupts and asks the petitioner what they want.

You are finding breathing a bit difficult, glancing down you see that your cup-size has increased drastically, you are dressed in form-fitting armour that fits as close as a second skin, leaving nothing to the imagination. Your hips are wider than should be possible, and you tower over the other petitioners, almost seven feet tall.

The dream flickers briefly as you take control of it, and you’re at the head of the line. Isla pauses in her recitation of the previous petitioners details, then resumes.

“Sireyi Valyenya, Paladin of Velya, unnaturally blessed with a body to die for, attracts every eye to her and acts like she is unaware of it, whom Jianxi is not sure if she wants to be, or to be under, probably as flexible as a snake, and those wings so soft-“

Jianxi is lounging on her throne, smiling at you with a smug, satisfied expression.

“Jianxi” you say “As Isla told you, I’m able to contact you in your dreams.”

Jianxi sits bolt upright on her throne and the dream ripples, everyone disappears except for the two of you.

“Isla tells me you’re planning a trip to Kugan” you say.

“Yeah, and?” she says sullenly

“I received a vision that you going there could be very dangerous” you say “I’d be happier if I could come with you. Since I might be some time returning, please take Isla and Matthias with you.”

She relaxes somewhat. “Alright, sure” she says, not meeting your gaze.

The two of you spend some time chatting about what’s happened to you both, Jianxi’s account matches Isla’s – though with her own cynical cast on things, and describing Isla as being bossy for taking charge, when no one else knew what to do.

Throughout the conversation she seems tense.

“Is this” you say, gesturing at your exaggerated appearance “Really how you see me?”

“Yes, no, I don’t know” says Jianxi, putting her hands over her face “You just seem to have everything, a great body, guys – and girls – falling all over you, you’re half-angel, you’re a paladin of a goddess that never takes paladins. You get all the luck – you’re even really tall.”

“I didn’t have any choice in any of that” you say gently “I’m just trying to help people.”

“And you’re too nice” she says “If you were a stuck-up bitch at least I could hate you then.”

“So” you say, looking for a change of topic “You and Matthias eh?”

Her shoulders hunch, tension visible in the way she sits “Please don’t tell him, I haven’t told him I like him yet.”

Some of the tension leaves her shoulders “Yeah ok” she says “But come back as soon as you can, things are boring here. Plus this Jal girl sounds like she’d be fun, bring her with you.”

You shudder inwardly at the thought of those two colluding.

The two of you spend the rest of the dream chatting about inconsequential things, and then you wake up.

You spend the next few nights trying to contact Matthias, finally you get through to him.

You’re standing in a dense jungle – much like the one the werewolf clan lived in. You’re wearing good stout boots, your armoured gloves, and you’re carrying your halberd. You don’t feel any taller or shorter. Finally, at least Matthias doesn’t see you as some caricature.

And then you realise that gloves and boots are all you’re wearing – from ankle to neck you are not wearing a stitch.

You can’t see Matthias anywhere.

You concentrate and then you are fully clothed. Matthias is still nowhere to be seen.

You pick a direction and start walking, after a while you come to a pool of water, several deer are drinking at it, they look up when you approach but apparently decide you are not a threat and go back to drinking. Then you feel a creeping dread, like cold fingers on your spine.

Turning around you see a werewolf in man-wolf form, crouched to spring. You set your halberd and prepare to receive a charge without even thinking. There werewolf springs over your head and tackles one of the deer to the ground, biting through its throat.

The werewolf ignores you and starts eating the dead deer.

“Matthias?” you say tentatively. The werewolf blurs and in its place is Matthias, gory with deer blood, and looking human.

“Sireyi” He says, standing up, naked.

You spin around, facing away from him “Clothes, Matthias, clothes" you say.

“Oh” he says “sorry, you can look now” you turn back and he’s fully clothed “Sorry, after living with the werewolves for a while, I tend to forget about them.”

You and Matthias spend some time catching up. His view of events is more concise than the girls, and he points out that the two seem friendly, but also antagonise each other a lot.

He’s also worried about Jianxi, she’s been acting strange, and in Matthias’ words she “smells worried”. He thinks her trip to Kugan is bothering her more than she lets on.

“Isla said you can control the change now?” you say “congratulations”

“Thanks” he says, trying to look humble “I finally got it, like you said, it wasn’t about fighting the beast, but working with it, I’m much happier now, and I’m slowly learning some of the abilities the tribe taught me about.”

He seems content.

“When you do go to Kugan, stay near Jianxi and be a good friend to her would you, as a favour to me?” you say, knowing he’ll keep an eye on her.

“Of course” he says “I’ll stick close to her.”

The rest of the night you just spend talking about unimportant matters, seems Matthias is looking forward to meeting Bokin and Gendric, because “They sound a bit like me”.

Eventually the dream ends.

The rest of the trip is uneventful, and you arrive in Falhird and travel to a hotel Ellahi picked out for you.

You have your Arena registration all sorted, you just need to go and present your credentials in person and compete in a *qualifying fight* whatever that is.

Ellahi also gave you the name and description of a man called Knowles – a cleaner at the Arena who is her spy and agent – as well as a code phrase he’d recognise to identify yourself to him.

Of course, Hanandrirac also lives in Falhird, it’s late when you settle into the hotel, but the next morning, what do you intend to do?

The next morning you approach the arena. It is a huge building with lots of doors and annexes, getting lost in their looks easy. You approach the east gate as Ellahi instructed and you see a man sweeping the steps.

“Fine morning for an arena fight” you say, giving the first part of the code.

“Could be rained off later” he says, giving the second he says, still sweeping.

“Knowles?” you ask

“Yup” he says “Lady Victoria Sammi” he says, lingering over the last word “Was told to help, foller me.”

You and your companions follow him into a small run-down shed in the shadow of the arena.

“Was told you wanted to get at Sumin Fallos” he says “What canna do ferya?”

“Tell me about the arena fights” you say

“Not much to say” he says “Arena fights can be single fighters or teams, can be normal or arcane division. The normal and arcane divisions each have four arena ranks based on skill and number of fights: Novice, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Fights between fighters of different ranks is rare. Fights are until one fighter surrenders, collapses or the judges say can’t fight.

“Healers and slaver-donors are on hand to prevent deaths, though they do ‘appen.”

“Anything else I should know about the arena?” you ask.

“Betting runs in two kinds” he says “official bets, with limits, and regular collection rules, and underground, with no limits, and if ya can’t pay they break yer legs.”

“Rich patrons often pay for the privilege of taking pleasure from some of the fighters – though only the slave fighters have to do this.”

“Fighters are some slaves and some free – including bored nobles fighting for fun, which is what you’ll be.”

“All fighters wear some kind of armour, but are expected to show some bare flesh – to keep the crowd entertained.”

“What’s Sumin like at the arena?” you ask

“Scum” he says “He’s made big bets in the underground betting ring and I know he’s had fighters who displeased him crippled or killed. He’s also paid a lot of money to have his way with some of the female fighters – with them being chained to the wall. And I heard – but can’t prove that when a young girl noble what fought in the arena for fun was *mistaken* for a slave fighter and chained to a wall for use he arranged for it to happen.”

“How can I get Sumin to make bad debts and go broke?” you ask.

“Fight and win” he says “I know who Sumin gets his betting tips off, if I can convince them you’re all flash and no substance, Sumin will bet against you, keep winning and he’ll keep losing.”

“How can I make Sumin a lot of money so he’s grateful?” you ask.

Knowles sucks in air through his teeth “Trickier” he says “we’ll need to build you up as a good fighter first by giving you easy wins, then have you take some falls.”

“Either way” he concludes “you’ll need a lot of fights in the general division or a few in the arcane division to affect his purse enough.”

“I’ll speak to you before each fight to tell yer what yer facing, and which way Sumin is gonna bet – and I’ll speak to yer afterwards to tell yer what ‘appened to ‘im.”

Would it be a safe assumption that team fighting and singles fighting are separate divisions, or that we won't be matched up against any team way more powerful than us?
Also, where did everybody go?
>>
>>33985309

Before committing to Arcane division, keep in mind we should not be using divine powers. No halo. Not sure about storms.

And I'm not sure if we should sign up as solo or as two-man team with Gendric.

>>33985363
>Would it be a safe assumption that team fighting and singles fighting are separate divisions, or that we won't be matched up against any team way more powerful than us?

Teams can fight singles, but generally only higher-ranked solo's take on lower-ranked teams.

>Also, where did everybody go?

Dunno, just the three of us right now I guess. I'm still willing to run, if you're still willing to play.

So, looks like Arcane division, either solo or with gendric.

Please revote and roll unmodified d20 - highest wins.

Yes, definitely no usage of Divine powers.
Angelic abilities register as divine, and storm abilities are considered Angelic, so those are out too.
This is why I was pushing for at least one offensive spell earlier, and why we wound up getting disintegrate.

>>33985434
Eh, we don't need a rollvote, I'm not opposed to a two-man team with Gendric, so I'll change my vote (>>33985363) to that.

“Right” he says, taking all the paperwork back “Welcome to the arena, your qualifying fight is in 2 hours.” He nods to an assistant, who gives you a tour of the arena, including the stands for the public, the private boxes for the wealthy, and the changing rooms where you’ll prepare for fights.

When he’s done it’s almost time for your fight. Knowles is waiting in your changing room, sweeping the floor “Qualifying fight ain’t nothing to worry about” he says “Just some other wannabe fighters you gotta deal with.”

You and Gendric are getting ready for a fight, strapping your armour on and talking strategy.

“Your first fight” says Knowles “is a pair of blood nobles, ones a sorcerer, one fancies himself a fighter – both novice division like yourself, so almost no one will bet on yer.”

He looks at the two of you critically “Nah” he says “Not full armour, gotta win the crowds attention, he” he points at Gendric “needs a bare shoulder and leg, and you” he points at you “need to show as much skin as yer can”

You and Gendric share a look “Fine” you say, taking off much of your armour until you’re wearing what could charitably be described as an armoured swimsuit. The two of you enter one of the smaller arenas.

“Iiiinnnn this corner we can the dragon-blood Lady Victoria Saaaaaaamiii and the bounty hunter Geeendriiiiic!” yells the announcer.

“And in thiiis corner we have the Ragil broooootheeers!”

Across the arena are two demon-bloods in their early 20’s, one is armed with two curved swords and the other with a staff, they are both half-armoured, as Gendric is.

Your arena has little more than 100 spectators. You’re in a roughly circular arena maybe 50 yards across, your foes are 30 yards away.

“Beeeeegiiiiin!” yells the announcer, as Gendric summons his burning blades.

Gendric heads towards the sorcerer, you match up to the fighter, casting shining scales on yourself as well as a speed spell.

You manage to strike a glancing blow on your opponent, though with your strength, even a glancing blow hurts.

The young demon-blood with two swords comes at you with a flurry of blows, but he telegraphs his attacks and you easily defend against them.

“Freak” he says, trying to get a rise out of you “I don’t know why they don’t consider your kind slaves.”

As Gendric approaches the sorcerer, the young demon-blood levels his staff at Gendric and blasts him in the chest with a blast of fire (Gendric HP 49/68).

Gendric likewise only gets a glancing blow on his foe, to little effect, the sorcerer must have defensive spells active.

You spin your halberd around and badly wound your foe, knocking him him back several yards and to the ground. He raises a hand in surrender.

Gendric hits the sorcerer twice with his swords, wounding him, but the sorcerer is still protected by his spell, and is soaking up hits that should have ended the fight.

The sorcerer hits Gendric with another blast of fire (Gendric HP 31/68)

Your spell strips away the sorcerers protections even as Gendric wraps him up in burning shackles. The judge calls the fight for you and Gendric.

“Thee winnnnnnerrrrs, and our newest novice fighters” yells the announcer “Lady Victoria Saaaaaaamiii and Geeendriiiiic!”

Back in your changing room Knowles congratulates you on a fight won “Good one” he says “Building tension like that with a weak start, good strategy. Now your next fight is in 2 days time. You’ll be fighting against a single demon-blood called Masonic – he’s a Bronze class fighter, I had to pull some strings for ya there, but Sumin loves to bet on him, beat Masonic and you’ll be on your way to knocking Sumin down.”

“Tell me about Masonic” you say.

Good to know that we're allowed to layer defensive enchantments before a fight.
Wish we had known that before, we could've gone in with Shining Scales and Speed already applied.

Is 'all of them' an option, or would that split our focus too much to have any meaningful effect?
>>
>>33987056
>Is 'all of them' an option, or would that split our focus too much to have any meaningful effect?

Yes to both questions.

All is essentially spending time with all allies, and thus not really having time to discuss anything in depth with any of them.
>>
>>33987117
Well, if we don't choose all, does that mean we neglect anyone unchosen?

You spend your time with all of your companions, seeing the sites of the city, making sure Gendric is ready for your next fight and making sure you stay out of trouble.

Eventually the day arrives. Knowles meets you and Gendric in the changing room “Good news” he says “Sumin is betting heavily on Masonic – he expects an easy win.”

“Now” he says “Before the fight starts, anyfing you wanta do?”

>No, let’s get this fight started

With your spells prepared you walk out into a larger area, there are hundreds of spectators this time.

“The newcomers!” yells the announcer “Lady Victoria Saaaaaaamiii and Geeendriiiiic!”

“Today they fight against the mighty Masoooooniiic!”

Across the arena from you is a massive demon-blood, towering over 7ft tall and balancing a huge metal hammer over one shoulder. His skin looks like it’s made of stone. He moves slowly as he comes towards you, taking the hammer off his shoulder and trailing it behind him, leaving a track in the dirt of the arena, like it’s too heavy for him to swing easily.

Your spell strips Masonic of his protection, dropping a foot off his height and making him revert to a standard demon-blooded appearance.

As he pauses in shock, Gendrics burning shackles wrap around him, restraining him, the metal hammer dropping to the ground.
Masonic struggles but is unable to break them, you look to the judge but he’s not willing to call the fight yet, with Masonic still struggling.

Gendric focuses and the burning shackles squeeze tighter and tighter around Masonic, even as his struggles get weaker and weaker, finally he slumps, unconscious.

“The winners, with a near-instant victory!” yells the announcer “Lady Victoria Saaaaaaamiii and Geeendriiiiic!”

With that fight over, you head back to the changing room.

“Very nice, very nice, Sumin lost a lot of money” says Knowles “But with that victory he won’t want to bet any time soon. You’ll have a few fights over the next few days, but I don’t expect Sumin to bet on these – this is to move you up the rankings a bit, get him ready for another fall – you might want to throw the odd fight, make you look weaker than yer are. As loathe as I am to not crush them all, he makes a good point.
Make sure the fights we throw all have the odds against us, that way people might start thinking the odds are actually correct.

Ok, language lessons it is, as well as spending time with the whole party. I’m ending the thread here as we’re about to drop off the board and I’m not staying up long enough to justify a new thread.

Thanks for the thread OP.
Error dump and other things in a moment.
Fuck serial commas.
>>
>>33988337
I enjoyed it as always. Thanks for running Pally.
>>
As always, some of these errors may have been corrected in the time between when I found them and when I got the chance to post them.

Worldbin Error:
>Drache
>Anyone harming a dragon hatchling, would be committing a grave crime.
That comma isn't necessary, and it'd be a little better, as far as phrasing goes, written as:
>Anyone caught harming a dragon hatchling would be committing a grave crime.

Worldbin Error:
>Hanse
>Princess Sofia Jalweyen is the current ruler of Hanse.
The true ruler, yes, but given that Ninver has taken over the Island of Storms, which is all that's left of Hanse, he's *technically* the ruler. For now.

Worldbin Error:
>Hanse
>Princess Sofia seems to have a natural talent for developing martial paladin powers, though the exact nature of Konigs involvement is unclear.
This was cleared up at the end of Thread 12, Konig is Sofia's ancestor.

Worldbin Error:
>Gorim
>The Council consists of: 4 generals; 4 guild reps; 4 religious leaders; 4 senators (only two from nobility)
No ending punctuation, and the phrasing on the aside at the end feels odd and might be misconstrued as only two amongst all those positions being possible nobles, ergo:
>The Council consists of: 4 generals; 4 guild reps; 4 religious leaders; and 4 senators, only two of which may be taken from nobility.

Worldbin Error:
>Gods of good and light
>The following are some of the religions in Dornmar.
Dornmer, and that period should be a colon as it preludes a list. Example given:
>The following are some of the religions in Dornmer:

Worldbin Error:
>Beastmen
>Beastment often take females of other races as slaves to keep their tribes numbers high.
'Beastment' should be 'Beastmen'.
Never enter a beastman's beastment. Never.

Worldbin Error:
>Beastmen
>Beastman shamans powers are primitive and often make pacts with powerfuk magical creatures
>Pacts with powerfuk magical creatures
>powerfuk
OP.
OP please.
>>
>>33988565
Worldbin Error:
>Beastmen
>Beastman follow the same conventions of clan warfare as orcs do
Beastman should be Beastmen.

Worldbin Error:
>Goblins
>Orcs do train them as spies infiltrators and saboteurs however.
Need some commas there OP. I also don't like that however with no comma before it in this context, but it'd look weird near a serial comma string. Ergo:
>However, Orcs do train them as spies, infiltrators, and saboteurs.
Or:
>However, Orcs do train them as spies, infiltrators and saboteurs
Depends on which way you feel like using serial commas. I prefer the second way in most circumstances.

Rules Error:
True Seeing and Disintegrate appear in both R3 and R4 sorcerer spell lists.

Rules Error(?):
Veil and Seeming appear to be the same spell with a slightly modified description.

Rules Error/Question:
>Protection from Spells M F: Confers +8 bonus to resist magic.
What does 'M F' mean?
It works on males and females?

CS Error:
In the XP record
>3 level 3 spells -3XP
Should be:
>4 level 3 spells -2XP
>2 level 3 N spells -1XP (1 unpurchased)
I'm assuming the leftover L3N spell can be spent in the future, since it worked that way with the L1N spell we had leftover a while back.

CS Error:
Dismissal is listed under our third level spells.
We purchased Disintegrate.
