Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you got bounced around some rapids, discovered a nest of corruption, and fought giant spiders.

You take your chance and charge towards the nearest spider. It rears back, as if to try and scare you off. All this does is provide you ample access to its underbelly. You drive the tip of your spear into the joint between the two halves of its body and thick, black goo sprays out of the wound to coat your hands. You twist the spear sharply and shove the spider back, causing it to go spilling over the side of the walkway. Unfortunately just as you're turning around you're hit in the chest by thick glob of black goo.

The impact knocks you off balance, as do the two that follow it. The substance spreads out seemingly with a will of its own, crawling into the joints of your armor and making it difficult to move. When the fourth blob hit you were already teetering on the edge, and it was just the push needed to send you over. One minute you were standing on more-or-less firm ground and the next you were tumbling through pitch black.

Your shoulder hits the water and you hear a pop as it's pushed out of place. You open your mouth to scream but cold water and some sort of thick, bitter paste rushes into your mouth. You try to swallow, but find yourself choking. It's only your armor that saves you. The visor slides out of your helmet and the mask slides up. Finally, a bag deploys from your lower back, and you find yourself drifting towards the surface once more. Your limbs are caked in that black slime, very nearly immobilized. However, it seems to be slowly breaking down in the water. You ought to have freedom of movement back soon.

The only light seems to be coming from the yellow glow behind the wall far above. It barely reaches this far into the nest, and you're surrounded by sounds of skittering and the soft hum of insectoid wings. It seems as though, by some miracle, you've escaped notice. Perhaps they think you're dead, because nothing comes to attack you. You take a moment to channel some healing magic into your shoulder and suppress a yelp of pain as the bone pops itself back into your joint.

You just float for a short while. This is good, you can live with this. Sure, there might be an untold number of hideous monsters lurking just below the surface of the lake, but you just don't feel like moving right now. You'll wait until the gunk covering your upper body dissolves and then make your way to shore in your own time.

You start to slowly work your arms back in forth, careful not to make too much noise lest you attract undue attention. More and more of the dried gunk starts to flake off or dissolve. In the pitch black it seems to take hours until you have full range of motion again, but in reality it was probably only a few minutes. Actually, you're not even sure how time works within Fulvia's mind, or if it flows at all. For all you know it's only been a few seconds since you entered her mind.

You feel something tug on your leg, and another something trying to pry your spear out of your hands. You glance down, but see only a pair of sickly yellow eyes peering at you above the water. You feel another tug on your leg, and suddenly you're being pulled along the water. You tighten your grip on your spear, and whatever the creature is trying to pull it from your hands relents. They don't seem to be hostile yet, but damned if you're heart isn't racing. They're obviously corrupted, or else they wouldn't be in here...

>Attack the one trying to pull you along, it won't be expecting it.

You relax, deciding to just see where this goes. After all, they might be taking you to the Broodmother. That would save you a ton of time searching this damned nest high and low for whatever horrible monstrosity is cranking out all these other horrible monstrosities. You have to say, if you were going to get dragged towards your death by any monster this particular variety seem fairly gentle. They don't unnecessarily rough you up, merely pull you smoothly and quickly through the water.

Eventually you feel your back press against stone, you seem to be in some sort of stream draining from the lake behind you. A creature rises out of the water in front of you, submerged to its knees. You'd estimate it to be five feet tall, at most. It's covered in pale, slime-coated scales from head to toe. Its eyes are a sickly pale yellow, they seem to glow in the darkness of the cavern. Two sets of gills cut into the flesh of its neck, flapping uselessly now that the creature is no longer submerged.

Another rises from the water behind you, and grabs you by the shoulders. You find yourself being carried much like a sack through the darkened corridors. As you watch, the creature behind you opens its mouth wide to reveal a row of long, wickedly sharp teeth and a horrifying maw. It leans down towards you, as if to tear out your throat. Fortunately the other creature gurgles something and the other looks up, before snapping its jaws shut and standing up straight again. Well, straight-er. They seem to walk in a sort of hunch-backed shuffle while on land.

(1/2)
>>
The air grows warmer, and then downright hot. The stone floor starts to give way to more of that black ichor and you find yourself in a room filled to the brim with small, buzzing insects. They coat the walls, the ceilings, everything. One even alights on your chest and tries to shove a long proboscis through your armor, only to injure itself in the attempt. The fish-creatures set you gently on the ground, and the one who'd prevented the other from biting you earlier points to you, and then deeper into the cave before turning around.

That was odd. That was extremely odd. Mainly because they seemed almost intelligent. They obviously had language of some sort... you'll need to ask Fulvia about that later. Regardless you stand up slowly, trying to avoid the attention of the swarm of insects surrounding you. They're only about the size of a rat, the largest being closer in size to a small dog, but it's a thousand against one. Sure you'd probably take a hundred or so down with you but you'd still die.

>Sneak off in the direction the fish-thing indicated. He seemed reasonable.

You push yourself up, your cloak billowing around you formless and indistinct as it always is in the dark. You must look like some sort of vengeful spirit as you stalk off towards the tunnel those fish-creatures indicated. You manage to get through without attracting too much attention, one of the bugs did land on your shoulder briefly but you froze in place and waited. Eventually it decided you weren't worth investigating further and flew off. You vanished into the tunnel without further incident, and from there all you had to do is follow the path.

The air continues to grow hotter, and the humidity continues to increase. The goo that had covered the floor nearer the water's edge has turned into some sort of thick, fleshy growth. It throbs and pulses rhythmically, not unlike that mutated heart you found in the first Rhynian ruin you ever explored, in the same room where you found Profectus sealed within a strange pod. You're sweating terribly by the time the tunnel begins to widen and you hear the sounds of movement from up ahead.

Finally, you emerge into a large chamber. Unlike the tunnel, this one is filled with a warm glow, radiating from the fluid-filled sack atop what you assume is the Broodmother's head. Two thick tendrils extend from the sack into the ground around her, into the fleshy growth that covers the floor. The entire nest seems to throb in time with the pulse of what you assume is her heart, or at the very least some vital organ. A proboscis extends from her mouth flanked on either side by spiked tentacles, and attached to her back is a long series of armored plates under which innumerable bugs seem to reside. You assume those would be her children.

It doesn't seem to have noticed you yet, a good thing too. This is likely your ultimate target and if you can take it out quickly that ought to end this whole adventure and you can return to the 'real' world. At least, a world slightly more real than this one is. You clench your hands tighter around your spear, trying to think up a plan of attack.

>Sneak up as close as you can get and launch a piercing strike at that weird sack on its head.
>Try to keep your distance, the air here is replete with moisture. Form a cloud of ice shards and hurl it at the broodmother and her welps.
>Set as much of the room on fire as you can and then make a run for it, that ought to take care of her.

This seems to have the popular vote. It will take 1 vys to charge the shot and since you've spent quite a fair bit of time in this universe around guns, seeing them used extensively, I'll go ahead and remove the usual -2 malus you get when you use a firearm.

Thus, I need 3 rolls of 3d10 flat, vs a DC of 15. You're aiming at a large target and you're not very far away. Your vys pool will be 6/29 after this.

>>33953176
This is indeed something you could do. Normally you would need to cast a ranged, weapon channeled, poison spell but because of the enchantments on the pistol it will merely be a weapon channeled poison spell. Thus, it would reduce your pool by an additional 2 vys, leaving you at 4/29.

An idea strikes you. A devious, ingenious idea. You switch your spear into your off hand and reach into your cloak, unable to resist grinning like an idiot. Maybe it's just the exhaustion finally getting to you, but you feel genuinely giddy about the absolute carnage you're about to witness. You feel a smooth wooden handle pressed into your palm, and run your thumb along the gold filigree as you withdraw your Officer's Pistol from your cloak. Both barrels are loaded, but you should only need one shot for what you have in mind.

You level the pistol, aiming into the dead center of the bulbous sack protruding from the creature's head. You start pushing fire magic into the weapon, the barrel beginning to smoke. You decide that's not enough though. You push more and more vys into the weapon, until the barrel is glowing red hot. Then you channel a poison spell into the weapon just to really insure that this thing dies and stays dead. The wood warps and rots before your eyes, the metal adopting a rusted patina. Normally you would be worried, but the poison spell always has this sort of effect on weapons.
>Vys Pool: (2/29) You're absolutely dead on your feet. You're primarily still functioning due to adrenaline.

You pull the trigger, and the gun barks in your hand. Your shoulder is nearly dislodged just from the force of the blowback. The sound alone is loud enough to deafen you and it reverberates throughout the room, and surely into the rooms beyond. The Broodmother has only a moment to contemplate the events unfolding before her head turns into a miniature sun, filling the room with blinding white light and blistering heat. Your armor seals itself off just to protect you from the heat, a warning light flashing in the corner of your visor.
(1/2)
>>
When the blast finally subsides, you see that only the lower half of the Broodmother's torso survived the shot, and even it is scorched all to hell. Only a handful of her children still live and the majority of those are in the process of dying. As you stand up, you notice a creeping, black rot spreading across the fleshy growths on the floor and covering the walls. It seems your poison spell will do its work. To all appearances, your work is done here. You take a moment to repair your burst eardrums and notice that the room is filled with the sound of buzzing wings, likely coming from that room the fish-creatures dumped you in. You should probably make yourself scarce...

Uh, yeah....I was there for that. I wonder how he's dealing with the angry dragons? Any bets on whether or not he's still un-alive? Guy sneaked up on a bunch of mostly competent people and a chick with some sort of eldritch hunter death-mask.
>>
>>33954000
>except he came back as a 'Revenant', whatever that means.
It's a type of vengeful undead.
>>
>>33954000
Speaking of that, it's the first hint we've gotten of undead in this setting. I wonder if necromancy is some obscure Rhynian thing?
>>
>>33954071
It could be possible with water, animate and permanency on a corpse as cheap golems.
>>
You sprint past the smoldering corpse of the Broodmother on your way to the other tunnel, your only escape route. You send a quick message to Fulvia as you duck into the tunnel, this one significantly smaller than the one you entered through. {The Broodmother is dead, and the hive is poisoned. Send in your security force.} She responds immediately. {Understood, it will take a short while to safely remove you from my programming. Do try not to die.} Well, you weren't exactly planning on it but it's not like you can prevent your death if you're facing overwhelming odds.

The tunnel becomes progressively narrower, until you're forced to practically crawl along the floor to make any progress at all. The fleshy growths that had covered the chamber with the Broodmother turn first to black goo and then to metal. You can hear the distant sounds of combat from behind you, but you ignore them in favor of figuring out where this tunnel leads. Eventually you come to a metal door, barely large enough for you to fit through. Heavy iron chains bar the entrance, but apparently since the corruption began to infect Fulvia's mind the chains have rusted. A steady breeze could probably break these off of the door.

Still, this raises a moral conundrum. This IS Fulvia's mind, even if it was deep within the territory of the Broodmother's hive it probably isn't right to violate her privacy by poking around locked doors. Not to mention this particular door seems to be buried pretty deep, judging solely by the lengths you had to go to in order to get here. Do you really want to go poking around a thousand-year-old AI's suppressed memories? Your curiosity is killing you, but it just seems wrong...

We should teach hayes this shit, i have a feeling he would be a great partner for duel enchanting and mediating.
I wonder if his crazyness would lower our DC.

What?

I sort of forgot about it after some guys kept pushing for a traitorous bitch to live because she was a crying girl.

Pretty sure we aren't gonna get brainjacked by anything in Fulvias mind.

Well..
There is that dead god inside of ours.

Guamless, baseless reference to excellent quest that finished this year.

Ended on a high note. The Lord Bill Clinton stepped forward to deliver Venia from the clutches of the Doompauls, and the Knights of Wrenloft swooped from the skies to save the day as all seemed lost.

Badly. The penultimate threads were all from the perspectives of the companions while the MC was on Ereboat mode.

>>
>>33954698
You do realize teaching people enchanting is a bad idea.
>>
>>33954643
Erebus was the ancient evil of Shadow Quest, the MC was a shadow of erebus.
MC fought Erebus because Erebus wanted to kill the world and MC didn't.
MC beat Erebus and when we had the choice of how to kill Erebus choose to eat him(that's one of the power we had as a shadow)
Turns out Erebus planned on that and activated his trap card and eat us instead.
Had to spent the last few threads running around trying to prevent Erebus to destroy the world.

Not the place for talking about other quests

How is resurrecting a lost ancient art a bad idea?

You stare at the chains for a short while before coming to a decision: It's easier to get forgiveness than it is permission. You grab you spear firmly and use the haft to break away the rusted chains sealing the door. You reach for the handle with no small amount of hesitance and with one great jerk pull open the doorway. A soft, green light shines from inside, and you carefully crawl inside. The hallway on the other side is large enough that you can stand up, and you turn around to slam the door behind you. The last thing you want is a swarm of bugs following you inside.

The hallway makes a sharp, ninety-degree turn directly ahead. It seems the green light originates from just around the bed. You make your way forward, trying to be quiet. However, when you round the corner you can't help but take a sharp intake of breath. You're face to face with a woman, or rather the projected image of a woman's head. You recognize it as Fulvia's face, except not quite. This woman's skin is perfect, if terribly pale in your opinion. Her eyes are half lidded and framed by heavy bags. Machinery encompasses her, and tubes pump a red substance startlingly similar to blood towards the central platform.

Her eyes focus on you, a tired smile gracing her face. Even by your standards, the woman is beautiful. She shakes her head slowly. “You're not supposed to be here.” She whispers. “She'll be angry.”

It was said because it angered the gods, it was never bad per say but i have a feeling that the rythians made too many enchanted items.
>>
>>33954729
Not here hombre. I'll leave the problems where they lie. It's best to let these kinds of things keep to their own spaces.
>>
With that ominous statement the world begins to disassemble itself. Slowly, the world turns to naught but a black void. You hear vague voices, seemingly calling to you from a great distance. An eye flickers open, and you see Fulvia perched above you. Her face is a robotic mask, her projection dropped. As soon as she sees your eye open she stands and stalks off towards the doorway without a word. No 'thank you' despite the fact you just risked your sanity to help her clear the corruption from her mind. Not even a gesture. You're left to the quietly humming portal, your only company the black, androgynous figure dwelling within. It speaks solemnly. “What's her problem?”

>>33954868
Opening that door will come bite us in the as isn't it? We must have lost some point in her favor with that aye?

>>
>>33954844
>>33954920
If it's what I think it is, then its definitely a good reason for the gods to smite the empire. Because using runes that way is just OP.
The gods would probably see it akin to using cheat codes in the most extreme sense.
