Previously, on Avatar Quest.....

Left in charge of the settlement in your father's absence, you were informed that the Queen wished to meet you upon his return. Making your way to the capital with two of the Queen's elite guard, you were escorted to the palace, where you met Queen Alara in person. The two of you spoke of events in the settlement, before the Queen requested a demonstration of your Earthbending abilities. You provided the demonstration by dueling one of her elite guards, managing to defeat him by throwing him out of the ring. That night, your predecessor came to you in a dream, and the two of you had a tense discussion filled with insults directed at one another. The next day, the Queen revealed that she knew of your identity as the Avatar. She then introduced you to Lathic, the son of Avatar Gonyo. The two of you discussed your distrust of the Queen, and Lathic told you the history of Queen Alara and Ren. You resolved to patch things up between the siblings, and requested that the Queen allow you to explore the city. She agreed, but asked that you attend a rally of the Bender-Non-Bender Alliance, a group that she wished to know about. After doing some shopping with money given to you for defeating Ming, you went to the rally, where their leader, Nur, revealed that the organization planned to overthrow the Queen in response to her policies. You spoke up and advised simply talking to the Queen, volunteering to do so yourself. On the way back to the palace, you were ambushed by four benders who attempted to kill you for supposed treason. Things looked bad, until Felna came to your rescue.

>Welcome to Avatar Quest. Here are the rules.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes it the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be out of 100. Whether rolls succeed or fail is decided by the first three rolls. If one passes, then you succeed regardless of the other two. Rolls will really only occur during training, or when trying something new.
All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Think carefully before you make decisions.

Try to keep waifu bullshit to a minimum.

You stomp on the ground in front of you, and focus on the spot where the Firebender is standing. Thrusting your hands downward, you open a pit beneath him. Caught completely off guard, he falls into the pit with a loud cry.

"Watch, this is my ancient technique of throw rock!" you shout.

"Ancient technique?" a familiar voice asks. "You came up with most of your tricks a few weeks ago."

Your rescuer finally gets close enough for you to see her.

Felna puts her hands on her hips and looks at you with a mixture of amusement and concern. "So, what trouble have you gotten yourself into this time?"

"Trouble?" you ask, "What trouble? I was just taking a leisurely stroll through the city."

Felna snorts. "Right, nothing like being throne off a roof to help you relax."

She walks over to you and looks you in the eye, her expression serious. "What's going on?"

"The usual," you say. "People want to kill me. Not my fault...again."

"Why do they want to kill you?" she asks. "What's the situation? Beyond people wanting to kill you, because, let's face it, that's pretty typical for you."

"Well, first of all we've got people who want to start a civil war," you inform her. "Possibly external kingdom spies wanting to weaken our kingdom. Then we've got these guys, who say they're agents of the Queen. They want to kill me for supposed treason because I said a bunch of baloney at the rally to win crowd support. Now I'm going to see the Queen to iron it all out. Hopefully without dying."

"Shin, if she sent people to kill you, is going to the palace such a good idea?" she questions, pointing behind you.

Turning around, you see the Airbender leaping across the rooftops towards the palace.

"I think she'll be expecting you, Shin," Felna warns. "I don't think you should go. But, if you're set on this, and you need my help, I'll do my best to make sure you make it inside."

You throw your arms around Felna and give her a hug.

"Thank you," you say. "I could use the help."

She smiles as she hugs you back. "Well then, looks like I'll be in charge of keeping you alive, like usual."

"I don't suppose you brought everyone else along with you?" you ask as you step back.

She shakes her head. "It was just me, Galda, and my dad that came here. I don't think either of them will be much help; my dad won't be eager to go near the palace, and if we bring Galda, we'll just be getting a blood bath, not the best conditions for negotiating."

Deciding not to waste any more time, the two of you begin to make your way towards the palace, leaving your wounded and trapped foes behind.

"Not that I'm complaining, but why are you guys here?" you ask Felna as the two of you travel.

"Our parents figured we could use more people to help with the settlement, and my father volunteered to come here and recruit them," she explains. "Galda was asked to come, and I volunteered to go as well."

The two of you move quickly, and soon the gates are in sight.

"Once we get into the palace, find Galda and your father," you instruct. "Get out of the city. If things don't go well, a head start would be very useful."

"Are you nuts? I'm not abandoning you in there," she replies.

Wanting to handle things peacefully, and not start trouble where it might not already be, you calmly approach the gate and ask to be let in, rather than attacking the guards.

"Yes," you tell her.

"Good, just so we're clear," she says before smiling sweetly at you, planting a kiss on your cheek, and strolling calmly towards the gate.

You turn and follow, and the two of you wait quietly there until the guard returns, Queen Alara accompanying him.

"Welcome back, Shin," she says, stepping beyond the gate and walking up to you and Felna. "And who is this lovely young woman you have brought with you?"

"My name is Kurna," Felna replies, giving the Queen a polite smile and a bow. "It's an honor to meet you, your majesty."

The Queen smiles. "The pleasure is mine. I apologize for the delay; Shin did not inform me that he would be bringing a guest. Still, you are welcome here, Kurna."

The guard stand aside, and the Queen escorts the two of you inside the palace.

Yeah, it is a bit weird that they showed up in town just as this happened. Though the stated explanation could be sincere. The new wave of settlers that came with our father are likely all the Queen's people, Ren might have wanted to recruit some of his own supporters. And it could have gotten out from him even if he's not behind the attack. Like, say, he was using the "fact" that he had the Avatar's support as a recruitment tool.

You tell her everything that happened tonight at the rally, and the events following it, including Felna's rescue, though you do, of course, refer to her as Kurna in the story.

"If you don't change your policies, you'll be forced to execute your own people to slow the rebellion," you conclude. "And that may only make it happen faster."

The Queen is trembling when you finish your story. Not in rage, not entirely even in fear, but in what looks to be grief or disappointment, or both.

"I...I can't believe this," she says softly. "I knew some people were upset about my policies, but this.... and you say a group of benders tried to kill you after the rally?"

"Yes," you confirm. "Considering how polite you're being, and the fact that you're not immediately trying to execute me, I imagine that you're not behind the attack. But, I also imagine it's riled up anyone who saw it. You need to act now."

"But, you said they called you the Avatar," Felna points out.

"Right, and who in this city outside the palace knows who you are, other than....Kurna, here," the Queen says with some suspicion.

"What are you implying?" Felna asks.

"Just that the timing of your rescue was a bit convenient," the Queen answers.

"I had nothing to do with the attack on Shin!" Felna insists.

"Look, the point is, either your guards are overly zealous, or someone is playing us," you interrupt "You didn't have anyone else at the rally, did you? Because if you didn't, then you have an information leak."

Felna smiles at the compliment, while the Queen nods. "You're right. I'm sorry for what I said to you, Kurna."

"It's alright, your majesty," Felna tells her. "I can hardly blame you for not wanting to believe that your own people are involved."

The Queen sighs. "But, it's beginning to look more and more like one of them is. The question is; who?"

"Well, it could just as easily be Lathic as Kurna," you comment. "However polite he may be, he considers you a pupil, and he might have sent those men there himself since everyone knows he acts with your will. Additionally, there was an Airbender on the scene who swiftly fled. I have little doubt he could have beat us back here."

The Queen looks at you in outrage. "Lathic is a dear friend and my most trusted advisor. To even suggest that he would do something like this is ridiculous, not to mention insulting to an honorable man."

He constantly called her a monster and a tyrant, and talked about how her laws were nothing but pure oppression and would lead the kingdom to ruin."

And, after what she did to Galda, I hated her, and was terrified of her. My dad didn't make it any better by telling me that if I didn't keep my bending secret, she would take me away from my family."

"What did your father think of benders in general?" you ask.

"Well, actually, his opinions of them were a bit like Galda's, though less extreme," she tells you. "He basically thought that bending was useless in most cases, and after what happened to Galda, he gained the opinion that they were all monsters who would gladly go along with the Queen for their own benefit, regardless of what it would mean for nonbenders. There were exceptions; after all, he knew I could bend. And, since we've met you, he's said almost entirely positive things about you."
