Sometime I wonder if I’ve abandoned any premise of wisdom, as if saying «that’s a bad idea» was somehow enough to childishly motivate me to carry forward, perhaps all the sticks I’ve been beaten with during my youth softened my brain too much, for this isn’t the first time I’ve given grief to my generous rulers. Sieglinde Jawahir and Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto couldn’t possibly make their animosity more obvious yet both were restrained by pure, simple common sense; power is the law of this world and I sincerely doubt we’d escape unscathed from any eruption of violence, thus the short fluffed one and the tall redhead demon could only glare at each other’s with the kind of animosity you’d see in rivals.
It was a brave, foolish man that broke the status quo of silence; Kyorn easily dwarf Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto even being a few inches taller than Siegfried, added with his long dark wing and you have the reasons why I tend to stay on my toes around this angry marauder. He broke the ice of silence by uttering a dangerous sentence consisting simply of «Welcome back» which was quickly interrupted by Tsu who whistled in his direction, promptly reducing him to silence, yet the second man beside her took this chance as Siegfried successfully managed to fully untangle himself from Emeth wrestle-hug and I gave him a little smug smile of my own.

…payback for that eloping, yep.

‘’You’’

Zechariah spoke without a hint of his usual awkward friendliness; instead his glare peered right unto Sieglinde eyes while everyone attention turned toward him as he clutched the pommel of his holy sword, the Lilim merely locked eyes with him without acknowledging anything, simply taking a half cautious stance, with her mother swallowing awkwardly beside her (taller) daughter, patting her shoulder gently. There wasn’t any attempt at friendliness in his attitude and Tsukiyomi stayed silent and observed him carefully.

‘’Thirty years a-‘’

Thus the proud eldest daughter of the Demon Lord couldn’t resist such an obvious guilt trip and fell hook, line and sinker; the hot, nearly explosive atmosphere similarly changed as the fuse wasn’t lit anymore, Siegfried managed to sneak a greeting of his own and something akin to a conversation almost happened until the Lilim put forth a deal of her own.

«Information for the continued good health of my mother for as long as she stays within you and your daughter care.»

Resulting in this current situation…

--

A line was formed in the mattress, Tsukiyomi sat in the center, Siegfried to her left, myself to the right with Daiyu on my side with Kyorn to my right closing this awkward position fully, the young man kept on glancing my way most likely observing the Demon Lord herself as his wings politely hovered slightly out of reach (displaying some impressive flexibility) the poor man looked quite awkward and whispered in my direction why as Sieglinde prepared some kind of spiel.

«Hard to relax with the Demon Lord so close…sorry»

Not that he was inconveniencing me in the least, Daiyu arm stretched to encompass my shoulders while her daughter seemingly grew satisfied by the line of students (something I had to vouch for, again) until a loud thud on the door made her whirl around, bellowing «quiet!» toward the closed exit which made the culprit relent as the Lilim large tail whipped the air a few time.

‘’Now, I assume the majority has no clue about Blood Magic, yes?’’

The lack of immediate response was enough for the succubus to agree with herself and she gently pushed aside the twin metals constructs trying to climb up her leg with her second foot, the only person to present a semi-disagreement was Tsukiyomi who simply huffed; the majority obviously lacked knowledge of this peculiar ‘’science’’.

‘’There’s one thing to understand about the entire concept of Blood Magic; it act as magic and science due to its nature and employ. Personal use of blood magic as a strictly offensive tool like Holy or humanity elements is very inefficient, even worse than Earth, cutting yourself open to use the blood inside you as projectiles is just about the best you can hope for.’’

The demon turned professor smiled ominously afterward, glistening golden eyes peering onto a certain person in the middle of our pile before continuing as the small electric constructs bounced on the floor toward Emeth, I had to lean forward to continue observing and witnessed the little things climbing up her clothes to rest on her crossed legs.

‘’So think of it like alchemy in the sense of creations and the need of study to actually understand what you are doing; while failing at your job as an alchemist isn’t lethal in most cases that doesn’t hold true for any would-be acolytes who are likely to get slaughtered by whatever it is they tried to summon or construct, rituals themselves are well beyond the ranges of neophytes, I’ll focus on those later. ‘’

I wonder if actual alchemist would feel insulted by this comparison, the way this demonic professor talk, it’s as if the two ‘’sciences’’ have some form of connections; perhaps I’m reaching too far, although, Kyorn looked rather displeased or maybe simply tense, those dark wings had taken to flap continuously, some of the feathers rubbing on the scales of my tail without producing much sensations (the whole thing feels rather numb anyway) as he listened on.

‘’Now, materials procurement asides, the main use of blood magic lies in the summoning of Outsiders and the creation of powerful artefacts, that’s where things start getting very tricky and even less bound by common sense despite the rigorous study needed to avoid getting eaten by your own craft. I’ll start with summoning and confirm what ‘’Outsiders’’ actually tend to be.’’

With nothing else than practiced tempo Sieglinde pointed to the roof with her index as a small, smug smile appeared on her features.

‘’Creatures that aren’t native to our lovely world, some pass themselves as demons but don’t go believing these posers. They tend to be highly anomalous and usually work beyond common senses, for example the entity known as ‘’Shoggoth’’ used extensively during the Great Crusade by the mages loyal to that peculiar Demon Lord is one of the most widely used monstrosity. We all know very well the might of these rapacious organic-eaters, now try to imagine organisms just as weird and deadly stretched to almost infinity; life always find a way and some like to invite them inside our lovely home.’’

The Great Crusade… while it affected the entire world and every culture reference it in their own way, I wonder how many undocumented things went on back then…

Why is my missing arm feeling tingly?

‘’I could go on for a long while about this subject but I’ll move on, for now; I don’t think this conflict is plagued by these creatures so thank your lucky star for that.’’

I doubt the church would stoop low enough to unleash these kinds of entities upon Zipangu, whilst their Holy weapon is a cause for great concern it’s an entirely new menace; I felt myself sighing, leaning onto the Daiyu shoulder, Sieglinde words rekindled some bad, bad memories of that swamp.

«A humanoid form floating into a white background, unending clarity stretching into the horizon whilst its half melted, expressionless, porcelain-looking face gaze dully in front as dark slimy entrails stretches out, exiting its body to-»

I have to close my eyes to chase the memory, what the hell is this…? It’s too familiar, as I’ve remembered a dream.
Sieglinde stopped her next spiel to gaze at me for a few seconds before proceeding, I barely noticed Daiyu wings stretching to rest on my back, hard, solid yet warm limb that felt like an arm ready to support me.

‘’Creation is much trickier but also very similar to summoning; to make a long story short the two main reasons why there is no epidemic of Blood Artefact is because, mainly, of the sheer materials needed to successfully accomplish the first half of the forging. Next is the sheer danger of it all; you need to slaughter a summoned creature and successfully keep its blood in order to try and transfer the desired anomalous characteristics, the chosen weapon itself might be too brittle to endure the transformation, the desired forge might become corrupted and turn into an anomaly… but most of all, such forging attract attention’’

Sieglinde seems to stifle a chuckle, marking a brief pause but moved on quickly to avoid boring her audience.

‘’Persecution of blood mages isn’t sufficient to keep them from misusing these rituals or increasing their numbers; now I want to make a little parallel. Magic isn’t something unknown to any of us, it is the act of imposing one’s will upon the world but still obeying its laws up to a certain point with summoning acting similarly, if in a much, much trickier vein; in the end, the world wins as the imposed will of the mage disappear. Blood mages want something else, imposing another form of rules upon our world, a form of permanency that simply run anathema to common sense, with the proof of the deadly swamp as a success of some twisted ambition.’’

Finished with her mannerism the would-be professor cupped her hands together while peering onto our group soundlessly, large, thick tail whipping the air softly, her gaze stopped to me for a few seconds, something I decided to ignore.

‘’These ritualist lay low because they are hunted and exterminated with extreme prejudice when attempting their magic at any kind of levels; small spells are usually successful because they tend to be quiet, otherwise…. Something called «The Golden Guardian» appear in close proximity of an affected area and ruthlessly slaughter culprits and invading creatures with extreme prejudices, while trying to save any victims of both. Quite the magnificent guardian angel, right?’’

Sieglinde promptly stopped, gazing at our long line, Kyorn seemed to wince slightly as he crossed eyes with the demon but otherwise silence reigned, quickly stomped by the redhead.

The overtly aggressive woman ready to pick a fight with a eight tailed Kitsune was nowhere Ii sight, that demonic dame seemed to be glowing, her large (albeit smug) smile showing a row of healthy white teeth as her tail kept on swishing to and fro, nearly whipping the door a few time, her whole expression was enough for Tsu to utter a «hmph» that nearly made me burst out laughing.

>Here you can ask questions as Siegfried or Athena, I’ll act them both accordingly. There’s another part of the explanation I have to write up of course, but I want to see if you guys have any peculiar interrogations

Athena: What is the nature of the "Golden Guardian"? Is it actually an Angel, or something else?
Siegfried: So the main uses are summoning of Outsiders and the creation of Blood Artifacts; what are the other uses?
And for summonings, are the things that are brought through capable of summoning their brethren, or does the ritual need to be carried out by a native of this plane?

Lacking the talents and inherent knowledge of mages make Sieglinde entire spiel increasingly hard to understand; this whole talk surrounding ‘’conquering reality with your mind’’ is the kind of thing I’ve heard children play around with. Obviously I’ve seen more than enough proof myself that it’s no childish mumbo jumbo.

‘’Any idea about the nature of this Golden Guardian?’’

Since she’s fishing for some question I might as well give her what she want; Sieglinde shake her head slightly as her emotion cloud over.

‘’None whatsoever. No matter how well hidden a blood ritualist believe to be, the vast majority of mid-to-high scale ritual are ruthlessly interrupted by this golden shape; some believe it to be some kind of angel, as that entire race bear a great grudge on the art of blood magic itself due their high value as materials, others gave it the name of Mother Earth due to its feminine forms. As far as I know there hasn’t been any kind of dialogues, that thing appears, kills, and either disappear or transports the victims somewhere secure, moving them into an adjacent county or region if need be. Only practitioner of the Sanguine are at risk.’’

I feel a slight wind as Kyorn hush over and the demoness nod in his direction as her large tail snap again behind her whilst her arms cross under her breasts.

‘’Does it make some distinction, or is every use of blood magic at risk?’’

The answer is swift.

‘’Blood Magic has been used for good in the past and is also found in alchemy in some vague shape; what seem to trigger the emergence of this justicier is the act of killing or bleeding the captured victims, I do believe it understand the intent of most rituals and careful preparation without slaughtering anyone beforehand should keep a practitioner safe. Can’t make guarantee tough’’

A satisfied sigh escape the marauder and he visibly relaxes as another question come from the other end of the line, the clear voice of my soon-to-be husband send a brief flutter in my guts that I make sure to ignore.

‘’So the main uses are summoning of Outsiders and the creation of Blood Artifacts; what are the other uses?’’

‘’Ritual; I’ll get on this subject shortly.’’

‘’Then… can whatever summoned creatures pull some of its brethren with a ritual of its own?’’

‘’Yes, it all depend on the entity itself’’

If that Nightmare could reproduce…

It’s image popped to mind once more, our struggle in the swamp becoming near futile as it seemed to toy with our entire group, only to end up contaminating my body; I’ve thought about the entire things time and again, I’ve grown increasingly convinced that it wasn’t some kind of opportunistic move, but it’s entire objective all along.

"Even if this war doesn't use many, it's still possible that one or two could be employed by at least two of the factions, couldn't they?"

Siegfried pursued relentlessly and Sieglinde turned toward him fully, giving a large, bright smile as she tapped the tip of her left horn, shaking her head slightly.

‘’The church consider the entire thing taboo, Zipangu has used Blood Magic during the demonic war but nothing was summoned, nor did they create some kind of rampant, uncontrollable disease; rogue agents of both factions could do it, but…’’

She shifted her stand toward her mother, a brief glance between them was exchanged in silence and I felt the Demon Lord tense up.

‘’I’ve got a rude little sister giving you all grief; I don’t think she’d have much reservations to summoning something, other than that I believe the church is too proud for high-scale rituals and Zipangu is much too careful and benevolent with its citizens to massacre them for power. But I can’t pretend to predict the future actions of such a large groups of people, so that’s just my take on it; I’ve been dancing around the subject but I’ll make it clear here. Blood magic work with death as much as the vital fluids running in our body, neophytes tend to slaughters group of people like cattle which is only moderately successful, but the bottom is; ‘’materials’’ consist of living, breathing human, elves, dwarves, monsters and animals with a few catalyst used to pinpoint and bait the desired summons’’

Time for question is over, the grim subject was brought with the delicacy of a punch in the face and I felt my tail tap the mattress a few time; what an insulting loss of life…

‘’There’s also a difference of quality; the virgin blood of young women is highly praised and sought after as their subsequent sacrifice is akin to lighting a torch in the darkness; entities of all kind are drawn like a moths, unable to resist such purity. Doubly so for angels, especially if they, themselves, are virgins women. However that’s not all, some entity respond only to peculiar people, young male would attract another kind of Outsiders, people suffering from highly contagious diseases can create a particularly disgusting creatures, chicken blood attracts imps; virgin girls translate to precious gems as blood currency, but there’s obviously lots of uses for different people’’

Sieglinde considered herself a ‘’master blood mage’’ and she was certainly showing, talking with assurance and a complete and total lack of guilt; did she practice what she’s teaching? I’d like to believe otherwise.

‘’My daughter is no demon…’’

I heard Daiyu whisper in my ear; I can only hope and believe as hard as I can, dear friend.

‘’Now Rituals are simple to explain but hard to put into practice. They encompass everything that isn’t conjuration or construction; hexes, weather and land corruption, misfortune, the spreading of diseases… the way magic was used in the olden days can be successfully reproduced with the right knowledge, without touching or calling upon Outsiders; it’s the closest thing to the magic we understand today as it use the mind of the mage as catalyst, and every successful ritual can be catalogued and reproduced somewhat successfully, with or without the aids of intelligent summons’’

Our orator stopped momentarily, closing her eyes and sighing before continuing.

‘’Here’s an example; nine people slaughtered in a drawn, white pentagram with chains attached to the tenth one, cake those in blood and chant the ritual that may or may not attract some anomalous entity. If you do, slaughter it to avoid being disturbed, otherwise continued on until the blood flow out of the bodies by itself, coloring the entire symbols in Sanguine and then, once everything inside your nest is started to waver and move in a heat gaze; step inside the cocoon to merge with your desire body, effectively changing physique with the victim aside from the color of ones eyes.’’

She stops as Tsukiyomi grunt audibly, and I find myself turning to look upon the Demon Lord whose face is a perfect statue of non-emotion.

‘’Obviously there’s the added risk of your consciousness being overruled and eaten by your prey, being successful in the battle of will means acquired an entirely new body while retaining all of your memories and personality; the only thing you mustn’t do is enter Trance or Focus, for doing so will reshape the illusion and break it. These are what blood rituals consist of; ill-defined exercises that can be very useful in some situation, like infiltration.’’

That’ll take some time to sink in.

"You said that even death can be used as a raw material. How large of a ritual circle can be created? Would it be possible to turn an entire battlefield into a sacrificial altar for a large-scale spell or ritual?’’

The words of my husband were tense indeed and I heard the Demon Lord beside me sigh softly; she’s been very obvious with the reasons concerning her alliance with Zipangu, all this talk of blood magic mustn’t be easy to bear. Sieglinde furrowed her brows while turning toward him, taking some time to think silently on her answer.

‘’It’s very hard to properly pinpoint the usefulness of ‘’death’’ itself for blood magic; the realm gem come from the Sanguine liquid with the loss of life used as a bit of a icing. If you will as some entities are drawn in by the mere act of slaughter; now as for large ritual, records show that around 150 virgins women were used as sacrifice in the Age of Pretender in a ritual to corrupt the very sky of the world, resulting in rampant disease afflicting every population, save for the undead and other resilient creatures.’’

She paused again, opening her brilliant golden eyes, peering unto our group one by one.

‘’Using an entire battlefield for ingredients is, in theory, possible but concealing the needed circles isn’t going to be easy, doubly so if both factions treat these renegade blood mages as enemies. I’ve no idea how it could be accomplished.‘’

I heard Tsukiyomi move, letting out a slight cough as her big fluffy tails retreated on themselves slightly, and her voice and movement didn’t seem to make the Lilim tense despite their animosity.

‘’I presume it’s impossible to properly detect a blood magic ritual?’’

‘’The art of Sanguine sometime need a magical stimulation, but, the entire ritual can be concealed easily without magic; it’s only when the sacrifices and the drawing of blood occur that they run the risk of being discovered by other people talented in the craft if those seekers modified themselves to be ‘’sensible’’ much like how mages feels each other’s powers once Trance is opened. Otherwise, perfectly mundane people can become potent sorcerers of blood if they survive long enough, us mages are completely numb to its phenomenon but normal non-mage tend to report feeling of increased dread and fear the closer they are to an active ritual.’’

‘’Then… is it possible to force a reaction with the blood disguises in order to disrupt it?’’

Sieglinde seemed to grow bitter at this next sentence but her anger wasn’t directed toward Tsu; she snapped her jaw shut for a second while stifling a sigh.

‘’I don’t know; I’ve studied blood magic for years upon years but I haven’t found anything of consequence concerning this ritual, thus I can only speak in conjecture; a ‘’sensible’’ blood mage could – maybe- feel the oddity. Being sensible require an act of reinforcement, changing one’s body and mind forever, it allow someone to understand the ‘’purity’’ of a peculiar individual, making choosing your samples much, much more convenient. The only certainty is Focus or Trance; once they enter it, the disguise is broken.’’

It’s a much more convenient spell compared to Daiyu near-literal transformation into another person, if that agent used this to infiltrate Zipangu, we aren’t dealing in any kind of hypnotisms or geass…

Not necessarily, the fallen maidens obviously made use of them to close in on their targets. Even that damned mutt was sporting one before she decided she no longer needed it and utilized her abilities. I'm assuming that the tenth sacrifice also loses their life in the ritual, or at least has their consciousness totally subsumed.

Oh boy it could have a big drawback potentially. Yeah, you get their body and all, but they get a residency among the voices in your head, and they are unlikely to mean you well. Enjoy your nightmares!

Sieglinde said that blood magic is as much science as art, so mundanes can use it.
How do we detect a non-Mage that's gone through this ritual and so can't be detected by tricking them into embracing Trance/Focus?
We should ask her that.

No, all magic users we've seen cast magic so far are safe; that's the point. What magic user hadn't used magic in the battle just a few days ago?
Any known Mages who didn't use magic would be immediately suspect; something the Mantis and Redcloaks should have already noted as odd, and that we should get a report on.

‘’Could alchemy be used to discern a flaw in the disguise? Difference in the blood before and after?’’
This idea sparked in my head after thinking it over; I’m no specialist but Alchemy is almost magical it itself unfortunately, Sieglinde softly shook her head.

‘’No, the blood remain the same, corruption is hidden inside the host; up until the lines of Focus disrupt the subject body, the host is perfectly hidden, with their magical potential intact. In fact if the Sanguine Practitioner doesn’t have inherent talent in magic, the ritual makes the changes permanent, and corruption will seep into the new subject and –stay- there, making this practice useful to get rid of the poison at the cost of twenty lives’’

Hearing about this craft convinces me more and more to support the taboo and wide ban of the church of its practice, nothing good can come out of such slaughters.

‘’You’ve mentioned hexes, can you give some details on those?’’

Siegfried asked, which seem to puzzle Sieglinde slightly as she took a few moments to rub her bottom lip while peering upward.

‘’Think of them like minor rituals that can be used without killing anyone; sometime offensive in nature like transforming some of your blood in needles but most importantly they have some great utility, like sacrificing some of your blood to mimic the entity known as ‘’shades’’ in order to sneak more effectively by obfuscating your ‘’presence’’. Making it so you are very easily hidden in a crowd or, if you are following someone alone, a trained target would have a lot of difficulty of picking up the trails, easily dismissing their doubts as imagination. Diseases can also be transferred by hexes, but nothing major; a cold, a night-long indigestion. Simple inconvenience that only target a single person without spreading, high scales hexes can be much more fearsome but require high profile activity that usually fall without the realm of ‘’rituals’’.’’

Daiyu’s daughter let out a long sigh and stretched, tail whipping the air a few time as her bones audibly creaked.

‘’Nngh~ That’s about the big line of blood magic, I could occupy the next two days while going deeper and deeper with how blood type or a person life affect certain entity and rituals but… I believe I’ve given enough of a proof of my good will, right?’’

She said, peering onto Tsukiyomi, Siegfried and finally my eyes, obviously seeking allies.

‘’I’m still a gracious teacher tough, ask away!’’

This bitch better have a better answer than "lol I dunno".
Sure, knowing the underlying mechanics of blood magic is interesting, but we don't have any applications we can practically use from it right now, and all we've gotten is "get disguised agents to use magic" as our only countermeasure; not really useful unless the agents are stupid enough to fall for the one trick that would expose them.

Siegfried: "Is there any way to detect the use of hexes, or active ones? And what about using hexes agains large groups I people? Can they be used to make large groups tired, or unwell, or even make their weapons and armor rust and fall apart? In short, the strategic application of hexes on the battlefield, aside from moving fast assault teams to critical points with little detection.
"Can they be use to alter a person's, or army's luck?"

So someone can rid themselves of corruption at the low, low cost of mass homicide? Oh joy. So is this like a body swap or something? I'm still not clear on what happens to that last sacrifice you actually impersonate.

>>33900290
There is a way, though it's very risky and desperate. Thing is, Deruella has a soft spot for her subordinates. She doesn't want them to die to the point where they will allow themselves to be captured over completing their mission (e.g. the damn werewolf).

Thus, if you can trick them into believing their cover has been fully blown and that you're about to summarily execute their asses they'll go for their magic to save themselves.

I don't like that our only play at this juncture is, metaphorically speaking, to get them to fold on a hand in Texas Hold Em' while they're sitting on pocket Kings and a decent flop, but we still have a way.

Again my husband almost stepped forward, is thirst of knowledge’s and curiosity for magic seemed to mirror Tsukiyomi as every single one of his questions looked to be the same interrogations of the queen-mother.

‘’About the practice of hexes on the battlefield; I assume anything regarding that would need a consequent amount of sacrifice?’’

He stopped and Sieglinde nodded visibly, adding a clear «yes».

‘’I see, then could hexes affect, for example, the luck of an entire army?’’

‘’No, luck is much too intangible a concept to be properly grasped; it CAN affect a few individuals, allowing them to be ‘’lucky’’ but such hexes are very short lived, usually lasting a few weeks at most while needing consequent, pure sacrifice in return. While Blood Magic can translate as a manipulation of anomalies, forcing such hard to grasp concept like ‘’luck’’ and ‘’fate’’ could only be done reliably through a summoned proxy which in turn, is bound to attract the attention of the Golden Guardian. There’s only a certain Demon Lord that managed to create a high-scale ‘’Fate’’ and it only affect a select few people in the entire world, but in theory yes; you could make an entire army lucky or unlucky through carefully prepared massacres and obedient otherworldly pets if we discard the sheer impraticality of the ritual, it’d be much more effective to target a single group and their descendants.’’

‘’Sieglinde, I have another question, concerning that blood disguise…’’

This time it was, surprisingly, Daiyu who spoke out; she straightened herself, pushing me slightly while simultaneously pulling me closer with her wings; everyone eyes fell upon the Demon Lord as her clear voice seemed to carry out of the room itself.

‘’…if someone were to become ‘’sensible’’ could they identify them?’’

‘’Yes’’

Sieglinde answered back with gravity.

‘’The ritual to become sensible require two virgins or five normal people; slaughter them, take their blood onto you and you’ll gain that power’’

Say, I feel like total shit for asking this but, do the sacrifices have to be "nice" people or otherwise uncorrupted? Because if not I say we get some death row inmates up in here. Anyone who is terminally corrupted or in the final stages of vampirism are also candidates if their use is allowed as well.
>>
>>33900854
A better question than asking how to best kill two virgins or five people is, who does Sieglinde know that is already "sensible" and that we can get to do the searching?

How quickly could such a ritual be put together? What are the requirements for the people to be sacrificed, besides that two virgins would be ideal?

For this peculiar ritual? You don't need any peculiar people as materials aside form ''the purer the better'' general stance with blood magic, becoming ''sensible'' is one of the most widespread ritual out there because it's very easy to do.

I'll answer that with another post

Sieglinde doesn't know anyone ''sensible'' that could be reached; and she hasn't done the ritual so shecan't point out if anyone is in disguise.

And let's see, if I'm counting right she's used the blood disguise for at least 5 different people. That's at least 50 poor dumb shmucks offered up unless she took the time to find virgins. Though using them would kinda go against her ideology. So... shit. Talk about grey vs. black morality.

I still have some questions regarding blood magic.

It wasn't answered if hexes can be made to affect inanimate objects, or an area.

I also want to know how easily the hex for mimicing shades can be taught, and if active hexes can be detected.

Also, how good is Deruella in blood magic compared to Sieglinde? Is Sieglinde good enough that a breakthrough, such as "a ritual to tag a blood disguise" by Sieglinde would be considered very likely to be true by Deruella?

Can hexes be forcibly depowered, or deactivated?
>>
>>33901709

>It wasn't answered if hexes can be made to affect inanimate objects, or an area.

Blood magic cannot affect non-living things accurately if at all (reason why creation of blood artefact is so damn hard in the first place). Thus, Hexes can't be put on object.

>I also want to know how easily the hex for mimicing shades can be taugh

It's a hard thing to teach due to al lthe technicality of BLood magic but someone knowledgeable with the Shade ritual can easily do it for someone else.

>if active hexes can be detected.

Sensible people can detect them.

>Can hexes be forcibly depowered, or deactivated?

Killing the host is msot efficient, otherwise a quarentine of Holy magic helps in that departement, around a week of carefully projected Holy would be enough to break most hexes.

>Also, how good is Deruella in blood magic compared to Sieglinde? Is Sieglinde good enough that a breakthrough, such as "a ritual to tag a blood disguise" by Sieglinde would be considered very likely to be true by Deruella?

Sieglinde describe her little sister as a pure bred, natural genius; when she lsot contact with her family, Deruella was a mid-rank mage in blood magic, it's highly likely she became much better after the years. As for your second sentence, you I'm not too sure I understand; you mean to ask if Sieglinde is good enough to identify a blood disguise?

Also I'll consider this discussion to be part of background infromation given in this briefing, while I love characterisation I shouldn't bury important information in it too much.
>>
>>33902002
>As for your second sentence, you I'm not too sure I understand; you mean to ask if Sieglinde is good enough to identify a blood disguise?
No, I'm asking if Sieglinde is good enough that if Deruella or her agents were to hear that Sieglinde had found a way to pierce or at least detect in some way the blood disguise, that they would take the rumor seriously and believe it with only minimal evidence.
>>
>>33902053

I can't give a straight answer regarding that; Sieglinde and Daiyu haven't talked with Deruella for a long, long while but everyone in the family knows that Sieglinde studied blood magic seriously -and dangerously -.

Whatever reaction that'll cause in Deruella faction is not something I can answer with certainty.
>>
>>33902165
Given their nature, are Angels considered to be 'sensible' towards blood magic?
>>
>>33902165
Damn. Oh well, we know at the very least that her involvement is a unique event within the loops. Her being here and breifing us on the forbidden lore of "Blood Magic" is likewise a unique event. That has to mean something at least somewhat positive.

It's another variable they couldn't have encountered before even if, in the worst case, Deruella and Orion have total knowledge of the loops like we now essentially do. Thus her effects cannot be accounted for.

Once more, both we and our enemies are in uncharted territory. That's both great and terrible for all of us. Hope it all works out for us in the end.
>>
>>33902289

>>33902317

>Charms

If the host know how they work, they'll dodge easily enough, charms don't really trigger blood magic reaction.

>Soul Magic.

Given how out of control it is, you're likely to obliterate your target without much fuss instead of breaking the disguise.

Now then, I think it might be time to close this briefing.
>>
>>33902378
I'm merely making my own observations. I encourage you to make your own and voice them. Nobody really knows what is and isn't useful here except in the most obvious cases. So please, tell me how you're seeing this. Multiple perspectives are hardly ever detrimental to a cause.
>>
>>33902425
Does the person taking on the disguise also get the memories, skills, and mannerisms of the victim?
>>
>>33902492

No, they speak in the same voice; otherwsie the personality is entirely different.
>>
>>33902522
So they don't get the memories of the victim?
Then it would be possible to trip up an agent by asking questions with answers that only the victim would know?
How long does such a disguise last?
>>
>>33902522
Then that's a tell. Sadly, you'd have to find a close friend of the victim and get them both in an interrogation room to land a true positive or negative as they ask the relevant questions whilst analyzing "how" they answered the questions as well.

Except that the difficulty is compounded by charm magics, false memory implantation, and all the other wonderful possibilities of mind fuckery. We do at least have actors that can detect when such effects are used. So that makes it hard for them too.

Damn, am I the only person who knows about gambling in here? Who else in here knows how to use poker theory to win a given hand?
>>
>>33902472
Deruella and Orion not expecting Sieglinde is a bit too much of an assumption. Previous loops had Siegfried allying with Daiyu before; as such, gathering allies loyal to her would be an expected course of action, and Sieglinde was well known as being loyal to their mother.
It may have only happened in a small number of timelines, but it wouldn't be completely unprecedented, and could be planned against.
Deruella likely didn't move against Sieglinde because her previous loops didn't show her where Sieglinde was hiding, or because she felt that other objectives had priority and that the Sieglinde allying with Siegfried was considered to be unlikely enough to not expend resources preventing.
>>
>>33902553

They do not and yes, asking personal question would be a good way to start; disguises don't have any time limit tough, so an imbedded agent could be there for years.

This is truly the endgame, we'll either win or lose it all in this loop. This is all things all sides were going for coming to a head. Read the archives if you think I'm wrong on this.

We are thus on the "alternative" path, the one path that never occurred before in all the loops.

Blood magic or Practice of Sanguine, a proper name for heretics in a non-ending quest of power no doubt; I’ve had more than fill of this entire ‘’craft’’ in the swamp and the nightmare. Whatever happened during the Purge was mere child play indeed, rumours of the Duchess of Blood actually stopping her damnable magic might have been true after all…
Sieglinde diligently answered questions after questions with Kyorn and Zechariah growing surprisingly vocal and thirsty for knowledge, Emeth to my right, Tsukiyomi at my left, I spent the entire briefing with a handful of fluff and the queen-mother never once break her proud expression and, now that discussion were winding down, I saw the ears of the Tenko twitch as lowered her face, leaning in toward me slowly.

‘’I’m not going to tell this to anyone else’’

She spoke low, almost in a growl as her lisps barely moved; I caught Zechariah briefly looking in our direction until Sieglinde announced a loud «Phew! Done!» which provoked Daiyu (and Athena) to jump on their feet with my poor wife to be nearly stumbling face first on the floor.

‘’I’ll proceed to make myself Sensible today’’

I had to refrain a disgruntled growl of my own; there wasn’t any if or buts nor was Tsu willing to let hesitation ruin a potential solution, she’s has made important decision in past and doesn’t lack the resolve to do it again and, as my words were lost behind anger the queen-mother slowly rose up, clapping her hands together two time while the succubus tensed and Athena tried to sneak away from the fox.

‘’I’ll be needing your help for the time ahead Daiyu, Sieglinde; pray forgive my first actions’’

A little bow afterward which seemed to fluster the redhead as she scratched the side of a horn going «Ah well, its okay, this mess is partly my fault anyway and well, my mother look healthy too and Athena is a pretty cool girl and all…»

Ah dammit. Why is that fox so pragmatic?

Niet, the soul merge with Athena is starting to do things to her body since she's mundane, otherwise nope. You need a link or the disguise.

>And would this artificial stimulation of magic be enough to cause the blood disguise to fail?

Can't force a mage to enter Focus unless they do it themselves.
>>
>>33903690
>As in making a mundane a mage?
No, the question is whether magic can be forced into a person's body, and whether that forceful flow of mana can disrupt the blood disguise in a manner similar to the disguised entering Trance/Focus.
>>
>>33903732
Siggy is fateless, and thus, by estention, so is Athena. Point is, by being stupid, we were in fact being pretty damn smart. We shared our nature with her to save her from dying. Oh.

The answer is still no because there'S no such thing as ''pure mana''. Magic need to enter a form of some kind to act upon the world, can't force someone to enter Focus as a physical side effect.
>>
>>33903825
That doesn't answer the question at all.
This >>33903842 was the answer; Athena sharing Siegfried's nature of defying fate has nothing to do with whether magic can be made to enter another person to induce a pseudo-Focus state.

So if I read the explanation right, not even using Corruption or Holy can affect the blood disguise, because until the user enters Focus, it's a perfect union between the wearer and the disguise.
Is that right?
And while a Charm could work, such a Charm would be easy to sidestep.

This all leaves either becoming Blood Sensible (which may not even work to detect the disguise since it's an untested hypothesis), or somehow trick the wearer into entering Focus.

>And while a Charm could work, such a Charm would be easy to sidestep.

Charm would work like they usually do regardless of the disguise, it all depend on the occupant experience.

So she's basically the counter force. At least the victims both deserve their death and also get a view of something beautiful before they meet their most certainly earned demise.

Mass murder folks, don't do it.

Murders happen every day. 2-5 in a single spot would likewise be a "mundane" occurrence and not draw her attention most likely. She's looking for summonings of Nyarlathotep, Cthulhu, and other such high-level Eldritch Abominations.

Basically, if it isn't a "Keter" class containment breech you're pretty much good. But if it is, you're well and totally fucked. Pity for the cultists that they seem to like to go for that right off the bat so yeah, fuck them. Dumb people deserve what they get.

INH already stated that not all blood magic is condemned by the societies that practice them. Some even have it as the foundation of their society, religion, and culture.
To those civilizations she is the ultimate evil because she acts against what they see as right and good.

It's not just secretive blood cultists that practice blood magic, and some societies have no problem with it.

It's not the deaths that catch the Golden Guardian's attention, it's the release of energies when a blood magic ritual is invoked.

So... Is Tsu undergoing the ritual or is Sieglinde? Because while it makes sense for Tsu to do it the Chillim seems more able to "do it right" as it were as Tsu seems unfamiliar with Blood Magic Ritualism whereas the lilim seems to know it inside and out.

Since we're talking human fucking sacrifice here I'd like to not fuck this up. We need this to work on the first try, if only to minimize the literal cost in sentient lives. Even if they were going to be killed anyway.

Of course not. Most anything seen as "unacceptable" by one culture is fully embraced as awesome by another. Such is the way of things.
>>
>>33910390
As is your point that "they deserve it" and that's why those people deserve to die, for doing something that their society and culture says is okay but that you don't like.

Even so, I'd still rather Sieglinde undergo the ritual as opposed to Tsukiyoumi. She's a Tenko and an artificial being in the end. Those are variables I'm not comfortable with. It may not even work with her, given what she truly "is". Thus I'd rather entrust it to something that is at least somewhat natural. Daughter of a broken Demon Lord yes, but still something not outside the true order of the world like Tsu sadly is.

And those who truly "deserve" death are pretty obvious in my book. Those are the people who kill with joy in their hearts with no trace of regret or desire for redemption, those who molest the innocent as if it were the only way they could find happiness. Such people exist and, regrettably, the only cure for them is bullets to the brainpan. Wish I could save them, but it just doesn't seem at all possible.

So you ignore that the so-called "victims" we're volunteers, or that the rituals are considered to be a foundation of the society, you egotistical shit.

And then you'll pull out the Captain America image saying that right is right regardless of what society says, further cementing your position as a self-absorbed narcissist.

Huh? I wasn't talking about them, I was talking about our own situation. If some tribe sees it all as necessary and the "victims" are volunteers then I am no one to judge. If they think bleeding out for some witch doctor is the best way to do things then good for them.

I'm talking "unwilling" victims here. If you are going to utilize them, you should utilize the most evil people you can find. Egotistical or not, it's hard to sell "using an innocent unwilling sacrifice" as anything but evil. Period.

>I wasn't talking about them
The post you were replying to was talking about the Aztec, Mayan, and African civilizations that utilize blood magic in this world, and INH's post about Mother Earth having killed a lot of people was a reference to her killing large numbers of people from civilizations that see no problem with blood magic.

So you're talking in your own little bubble ignoring the actual topic, which was civilizations that are based on blood magic and see it as good and revile the Golden Guardian as the Yellow Devil because it disrupts the basis of their society.

That's why you're and egotistical shitstain.

Well when the consequence of their culture is inviting the friggin' Outer Gods from the Mythos into your reality damn near every day you've got a choice to make. Stop them by any means or watch as your reality is deleted by said Outer Gods. Did you do a bad thing? Yep, killing people is always bad. Did you do the "right" thing? Yes, because if you didn't something objectively far worse would have happened for certain.

When the stakes are the entire world's population (possibly more, given this example), most anything is forgivable. Doesn't make it any less condemnable, but still rational and understandable from most standpoints.

She killed the few to save the many. Can't really fault her for it. Can still say it was wrong if you wish, but you can't really hold it against her like a strong grudge. Hell, Tsu did something similar. That vamp pot isn't a nice way to go but it ain't like she made people drink it.

Whether stopping blood rituals by killing the priests was in the best interests of the rest of the world is not what the conversation was about.
It wasn't even about whether these civilizations need to be destroyed, either through cultural modification or outright military conquest, or that destroying these civilizations would be better for the world. That eliminating these civilizations would be for the best was already a given.

The problem is that first, you injected yourself into a conversation about other civilizations in other parts of the world when you were only talking about the specific region we're in.
Second, is your attempt to make this about how Maya should be forgiven for the people that she's killed because it was for the greater good, when that wasn't even being discussed; the only thing being discussed was whether all of the people she's killed would have been punished by the societies they were in or not.
