You are Melarracal, a recruit of the Renais army, and are currently deployed on a special assignment with your squad. And you just beat the Pegasus Knight in a sparring match!
Current Stats:
Recruit
Level 5
Weapon Rank: Lance D
Supports: Forde E, Gareth E

Christine is laying on the ground with my foot on her chest, and both of us smiling. The dizziness from my spinning slowly dies away and I hear a metallic clap from my Sergeant. “Good job you two.” He says, slightly muffled by his helmet. I can’t help beaming at his praise, to which he quickly adds, “But don’t get cocky Melarracal. Had Christine been on her Pegasus, there is no doubt she would have won.”

I see the rest of my squad nod in agreement as I help Christine to her feet. “Thanks,” she says, “But he’s right. I’m not as skilled fighting on the ground as I should be. So you had the advantage this time.” She gives me a coy smile and adds, “Maybe next time, I’ll ride Tabitha.”

I just smile nervously as she goes over to the winged creature in question. Something tells me that I won’t exactly get out of that unscathed.

Shortly after Gareth and Chris give us a quick check up to make sure we didn’t break anything, we turn in for the night. Hearthsted took first watch, and was later relieved by Kellen.

In the Morning, we have a quick breakfast of pre-packed biscuits and dried deer meat. We break camp early and set out to the south again. Our first objective is to liberate a small town from Grado control. The town is less than a day out, so we should arrive before nightfall.

Nothing wrong with playing it safe.
>>

[] Keep our eyes peeled. No telling when an ambush might happen
>>
I need to keep my eyes peeled. We’re in enemy territory, so it’s likely that they’ll have scouts as well as small regiments stationed about. I can’t afford to be caught off-guard.

It seems like everyone else had the same idea. Christine periodically flies down to let Hearthsted know that everything looks clear, Kellen and Gareth are watching the sides of the road, and Chris is checking behind us to make sure we’re not being followed.

As we get further south there are more trees lining the road, a stark contrast to the plains we have been trekking across. The tree line isn’t particularly thick, but it is enough to hide an ambush.

Christine flies down as the sun starts to tip into the horizon. “Sir, I can see the village from the air. We should be there within an hour or two.”

“Excellent,” he responds. “We will move forward a little more before resting. We shall attack under the cover of night.”

(Part 1/2)
>>
A little further down the road we encounter a wagon with a broken wheel. There are two people next to it arguing rather loudly.

“And I say that they should have been back by now!” A woman in green yells.

“They could be having trouble with finances. I told you we should have given them more gold.” Argues another woman, this one wearing white. Her outfit looks like that of a cleric, while her companion looks far less, holy.

“What we gave them was plenty for someone to replace the wheel!”

“Excuse me,” Hearthsted says as he moves to the front. “What appears to be the problem?”

“Who the hell are you?” The woman in green demands rudely.

“Leah, where are your manners?” The Cleric(?) chastises her friend. “I am Nicolle, and this is one of my companions, Leah.”

Leah appears to be wearing a long green cloak over a tight brown top that stops above her midriff and a short brown skirt. She has a few knives strapped to a belt that doesn’t seem to be holding up her skirt.

“And the problem,” Leah says, looking more than a little annoyed, “is that our wagon is busted and the people we sent into town for help haven’t returned yet.”

“Sir, perhaps their being held up by the Grado soldiers?” Gareth offers.

Hearthsted nods in agreement. “How long have they been gone?”

“They left before midday.” Nicolle says, sounding a little worried now. “You said there were Grado soldiers there?”

“Yes ma’am.”

(Screwed up... Part 2/3)
>>
“Oh dear. They moved far faster than I had thought.” The cleric frowns. “Please sir knight, will you help us?”

“We were going to liberate the town regardless. Wait here and we will take care of everything.”

“No way!” Leah shouts.

“I agree, we are asking for help, not for you to do all the work.” Nicolle says as she digs pulls a staff out of the wagon. “Please good sir, allow us to help you.”

There is a pause ash the sergeant looks them both over. “Very well,” he says reluctantly, “but you must follow my orders exactly.” Nicolle nods readily, and Leah simply grunts. “We had planned to attack during the night, but if anyone has any new ideas speak up now.”

>New Plan?

So, I'm writing slowly today. Oh well, gotta work through it!
>>
>>33866069

>Not really new plan, but more like, can we get an elaboration on what exactly the plan is? 'Attack under the cover of night' is kind of vague.

>>
>>33866125
I know, but I cut/paste too much from the initial post and had too much in the second. I write it in MSWord first then copy it over.
>>
“Uh, sir, can we go over the plan in more detail?” I ask.

“Certainly. The village does not have a wall, therefore getting in will be easy, as long as we avoid the patrols. For that we will split into two groups. Chris, Melarracal, and now Leah will slip past the patrols and find where the Grado soldiers are holed up. You are to ascertain whether or not you can take them out on your own. If you can, do it. If not, find a way to prevent them from joining their allies outside. Gareth, Kellen, Nicolle and myself will attack an hour later, or sooner if you need us to. If you need help Chris will send up a signal flare. That should be done as a last resort though, as it will get the attention of all the Grado soldiers in the village.”

So I'm working on drawing Mel, but I want to make the drawing look as close to official Fire Emblem artwork as I can manage without directly manipulating sprites or what have you.

Right now, this is the best I can do, but I'll be doing a more intensive study of the series' evolving style.

Well, I copy-pasta'd the official description given in one of the previous threads and worked from there. Her armor setup is basically an exact copy of Amelia's (which is very similar in design to the pegasus knights, except that she wears the armor skirt there)
>>
“So, Leah, Nicolle is obviously a healer, so what do you do?” Chris asks.

“I sneak.” She answers curtly. “I’m also good with locks and shit.” You and Chris simultaneously raise an eyebrow inquisitively. “Oh don’t look at me like that. Nicolle won’t let me do that kind of thing anymore.”

>Anything else?

>>33866453
That is by far better than anything I could do. Also, Thanks! It's nice to see that you like this enough to do that!
>>
>>33866700
>How about this then? Leah will be better at staying out of sight than any of us. She can scout ahead of us and alert us to any Grado soldiers that are nearby. If we get the chance, we should try to ambush and neutralize as many of the enemy soldiers as we can without raising the alarm.
Off the top of my head, this is what I came up with. Not sure how feasible, but anything that helps even the odds would be helpful.
>>
>>33866700
Thank you. I love fire emblem, but I haven't played Awakening yet, so I'm staying away from anything that could even remotely spoil it for me, so I couldn't take part in the Awakening quest.

Plus, this gives me an excuse to do fanart-y stuff when I don't normally do fanart.
>>
“What if we have Leah scout ahead? She can alert us to any guards and we can ambush them without raising the alarm?” I suggest.

“I think we should pick off the patrols,” Gareth says. “If we all work together, we should be able to do it without any real problems.” Kellen, Chris, and Christine all agree as well.

“Very well then,” Hearthsted says. “We will wait until the moon is up high overhead before we go in. That should leave most of the guards asleep and that there are no townspeople out.”

We are then ordered to wait just off the road until night falls. Kellen and Christine are talking about their respective mounts, Chris, Gareth, and Hearthsted are reviewing a map of the village, Leah and Nicolle are talking about if their companions are okay. Not really sure of what to do, I…

>>

>Aye, reviewing the map seems like a good idea

Holy crap, I am so glad we went to Starbucks to get internet access right now!
>>
I decide to review the map with the others. Maybe I can use the knowledge of the town to better position myself later? Hearthsted is leaning over the map which he has placed on a rather large rock, and Chris and Gareth are both pointing at different spots on the map.

“I’m saying we should approach from the south!” Chris growls. “They control everything down that way so they won’t expect to be attacked from that direction!”

“And what if a Grado regiment decides to march through the night? What if we end up flanked?” Gareth barks back. “We should approach from the east or west! They’ll see an attack from the road coming, but if we come at them from the sides then we’ll definitely surprise them!”

“Unless they are smart enough to post guards there! We would just walk right into them!”

“Uh, guys?” I say hesitantly.

“Going by the map, there are trees flanking the town! Meaning they’ll expect an assault on the roads, leaving them open for us to move in from the woods!” Gareth ignores me.

As does Chris. “Don’t you think that they’d have traps set up in the woods?”

“Guys?” I try again, this time looking at the map.

“WHAT?” They both snap at me.
(1/3)
>>
“Well, the town doesn’t have any walls, right?” I ask for confirmation.

“Yeah, what of it?” Chris grumbles.

“Well, if I had to guard a town with no wall, I would build makeshift walls out of whatever I could find. And if they did that, going in from anyway that isn’t the road would prove difficult. And if they didn’t do that, they would likely have guards positioned around the entire town.” The two men look at me, astonished. “And attacking from the south does leave us open to being flanked by the enemy should they march through the night, but that is unlikely. Just as unlikely as them leaving any part of the perimeter unguarded.”

“She’s right,” Hearthsted says as he straightens himself. “You were all taught that back in basic training. The lessons you learned back then are likely similar to the lessons our enemies have learned.”

Gareth and Chris look away from each other. I guess being a recruit among knights has the advantage of my lessons being fresh in my mind.

“Now then, take a close look at the map,” Hearthsted says as he points to a building near the center of town.

We spend a good while going over the various buildings and what to keep an eye out for. The town hall is likely to be where the Grado soldiers are using as their base. The local prison is likely holding any captured soldiers and freeing them would tip the tide in our favor, especially if we find ourselves in a fight with the entire occupying force. The guard barracks is likely being used to house soldiers as well, presumably the lower ranking ones. Hearthsted also warns us that the church has a bell in the steeple that could be rung should we be spotted.

We also quickly review the plan. Leah will sneak around and tell us where a patrol is so we can ambush them. Christine and Kellen will be staying back due to the possible noise from their mounts, but will join us if we need them.

After that we have a quick dinner and we rest up for tonight.
(2/3)
>>
When it is time, Christine flies high above the village to do a quick scan of the patrols. When she returns, she says, “It’s all dark. They are likely not using torches to keep their numbers hidden from an assault force. I also noticed that they have barricades set up around the town hall.”

“Good work,” the sergeant nods. “Leah, you will lead the way. The rest of us will follow your lead. When you think it’s safe to attack, just give us the signal.”

Leah nods and leads us to the north eastern corner of town. According to the map, the prison should be around here as well. Entering from here might prove to be our best option.

We sneak into the village with no problem. While between buildings Leah raises her hand and we all come to a halt. She quickly disappears around the corner. Chris nocks an arrow and I ready my lance. Behind us I can hear Hearthsted and Gareth ready themselves as well.

Leah reappears suddenly and just as quickly vaults up and climbs onto a rooftop. “Get ready,” She whispers down to us.

A group of four soldiers in a square formation walk past our hiding spot when Leah hisses, “Now!”

Chris lets loose an arrow just as a knife flies down from the roof, both strike the same target.

[]Strike down the last one in the back!

If we can somehow do it quick and quietly, the soldiers in front may not immediately realize what's happening and be slower to react. Kind of a longshot, but I don't think we'd be wise to just rush past the rear soldier.

I rush forward and thrust my lance into the back of the last one in the back row. The tip cleanly pierces through, but misses the heart, causing him to scream in pain.

His two companions quickly turn around and get ready to call for help when Leah drops from the roof onto one of them, thrusting a knife into his neck.

I remove my lance from the soldiers chest and quickly reinsert it in his spine, silencing him.

“We’ve go-“ The last soldier is cut off prematurely by an arrow in his mouth and a knife in his gut.

“Damn,” Leah curses. “I bet they heard that.”

“Indeed,” Hearthsted says disappointedly. “It looks like we’ll have a fight on our hands after all.”

“What now?” Nicolle asks, looking worried.

“Melarracal, Chris, Leah, and Nicolle, you four are to go to the prison and release any prisoners. There should be a room with weapons inside as well. Gareth, Christine, Kellen, and I will draw their attention to the other side of town. Meet us there when you’re ready. Understood?” We all nod in agreement. “Good, now get moving!”

The map fresh in my mind I lead the way to the prison, which isn’t that far away, but it’s guarded by at least three soldiers outside, and possibly more inside. Two of them are wielding swords, and the other has a lance.

“Chris,” I whisper, “aim for the guy with the lance. Leah, if you have more throwing knives, use those on the sword wielders. I’m going to try and keep them back. Nicolle, can you heal me if I get hurt?” She nods. “Thanks.”

Leah quickly pulls out another knife, and from the corner of my eye I can see small leather pockets on the inside off her cloak with numerous knives sticking out of them. Chris fires an arrow at the spearman, grazing his armor. The enemy starts to advance, except the spearman who is being pinned down by arrows. The swordsmen are lightly armored and as such have to avoid the knives or risk injury.

“Get them!” The lance wielder shouts. I wince, but accept that stealth is already out the window. An arrow grazes his leg, but he doesn’t go down.

“Rrraah!” One of the swordsmen charges forward and attempts to slash at me.

>>
>Rolled 77

I spin my lance to parry his slash and in one swift movement bring the lance back around as I slash at his chest, but he jumps back and quickly rolls to the side to avoid a knife. The second one tries to close in, but I force him back with a couple thrusts.

Chris is having a hard time hitting the solder with the lance, but has nicked him a few times. Leah also has managed to hit the swordsmen a few times. The first sword wielder charges me again, this time with the second following close behind.

I rush forward to meet them. With a quick thrust at the firsts feet, I put him off balance and throw a few more thrusts at him all while knives are thrown at him as well. My lance finds home in his kneecap as a knife digs into his abdomen.

I pull my lance out as the second soldier tries to move past his comrade. Before he can however, I swing my lance, hitting the first soldier into the second, sending them both sprawling. I finish of the first while he’s prone, and the second has to roll to avoid another barrage of knives.

He quickly gets up and prepares for another attack, but gets stopped by the lance wielder. “Enough! We’re too open out here, get inside!” An arrow flies into his shoulder but plinks off the armor harmlessly.

The swordsman turns to flee, but Leah throws another knife hitting him in the back of the neck. “We won’t be having any of that!”

Chris is aiming his shots for the door now to keep the last one from retreating.

I can’t let him get inside!

I sprint towards the spearman and slash at his neck, he leans back, but not far enough. I leave a slight cut on his throat, but nothing that will debilitate him. Another arrow hits him while he’s recovering from his dodge, this time in the elbow where his armor is weakest.

Sadly it wasn’t his right elbow, which he uses to thrust his lance. I sidestep it and return with a thrust of my own, digging into his already wounded arm. With the lance still in his arm, I pull it to the side, tearing it out.

Howling in pain he tries to tackle me, but gets stopped when Leah tackles him and slits his throat.

The prison door bursts open right in front of me, revealing a knight in white and green armor carrying a sword. “I should have known those fools wouldn’t have been able to handle a group of kids.” He says, his eyes glaring at me through his visor.

“Surrender? To children? I think not.” He scoffs at me. “I should be offering you that option girl.” He draws his sword and adopts an unusual stance. He turns his body to the side and has his sword arm positioned away from me and his sword is pointed away from me as well. “Come child, if you wish to save those inside, you will have to go through me!” He taunts as he retreats inside.

“Damn,” Leah mutters. “He’s smart. Fighting us out here in the open would be suicide. Instead he’s forcing us into closed quarters where Chris and I won’t be as effective.” She pulls out a dagger from inside her cloak. “I can still help you take him on though. Just say the word.”

>Knight has retreated indoors. New plan?

NOTE: The prison building has a few lanterns inside that are keeping the interior lit, so fighting in the dark is not a problem. I nod to Leah who smirks. “I’ll go in first, back me up.”

“Got it.”

I move in cautiously, but not cautiously enough. A wooden chair is slid along the ground and knocks me over. Leah rushes in as the knight charges towards me, sword raised to strike.

She tries to slash at him before he gets to me, but he’s too fast. He brings the blade down as I roll to avoid. The blade sinks into my side, but I can still keep going. He tries to attack again, but has to dodge a slash from Leah, allowing me to get back up on my feet.

The wound will definitely slow me down, but with Leah here, it shouldn’t be a major problem. At the door I can see Chris trying to aim a shot, and Nicolle looking at me worriedly.

Readying my lance I prepare to…
>Do what?
More Rolling please~

>>33875113
Mel is about average height for a 15-17 year old. I'd say similar in height to Neimi and Erika.

>We need to not aggravate how wound until Nicolle can get to us and heal it, so move cautiously and keep the knight pre-occupied. See if Nicolle can take care of us while we do that...

Alright dice gods, how are you feeling now?

Aim a shot at his face to get him to flinch, then throw the chair at him. While he deals with that, get a second to get healed.

We should play this one defensively. I doubt we can take another hit.

>Names the two characters I didn't put on my FE height comparison chart

Welp, time to put them on it
>>
>>33875424
Alright, that puts her at the average height for female FE characters (~6 1/2 heads for anyone that's wondering)
>>
>>33875551
And... well, I suppose it had to be asked at some point: what's Mel's bust size compared to, say, Neimi?
>>
>>33875871
D for double hers.

>Rolled 79

I take a look at the chair that knocked me over. This chair is an eyesore.

“Leah, pull back!” I call and she does so without question. Doing my best to not agitate my wound any more than necessary I kick it across the room towards the knight.

He jumps to the side just before it would hit him, but that gives Leah enough of an opening to dig her dagger into his upper arm. He goes to strike her but she’s already out of reach. Chris fires an arrow in and it glances off the knights bracer.

While he’s distracted I move closer to the door where Nicolle is already moving to meet me.

“Hold still, this will just take a moment.” She holds her staff over my wound and I can feel it close. It feels, unnatural. The pain still radiates slightly, but is far more bearable. “Please, be careful.”

“I’ll try.”

Leah is pulling some hit and run tactics while Chris fires off a shot when he gets the chance. His arrows are more of a nuisance for the knight, but it’s something else for him to watch out for.

The building room is mostly barren except a table against the far wall, and the chair in the center of the room. I can’t see the cells from here, but there is a door on the far side of the room. That’s likely where they are.

>What now?
Keep the rolls coming please!

>>33875871
I'd say about the same as Neimi's, but Mel keeps hers bound. Makes fighting a little easier and helps her fit in the armor better.

>Try to flank the knight, force him to further divide his attention between us and Leah, wear him with minor wounds if we have to. Wearing heavy armor like that should be wearing him down with all the running around he's been doing.

We do this like pack animals: if he turns to hit Leah, we move in to harass him, and back off when he goes to retaliate, at which point Leah moves in and so on.

Seconding. Also, try and get a bit behind him if possible so that Chris can maintain some cover fire.
>>

While Leah has him distracted I slowly make my way around them, trying not to be noticed. He does notice me, but too late. He tries to slash at me, so I duck and roll under the blade and am now opposite Leah. She gives me confident nod and tries to slash at him. To which he responds by kicking her in the gut.

This maneuver leaves him open for me to stab him in the back, piercing his armor and pull back as he yells in pain. “How do you like it?!” I growl at him. The pain in my side still fresh in my mind.

He spins around and slashes at my neck, but stops suddenly when a dagger is plunged into his shoulder. He drops his sword, spins around and punches Leah in the face, knocking her onto her back. Before I can react he’s turned around and has a hand on my lance and is trying to pull me down onto Leah.

>WHAT DO?!
Roll please!

Let him pull the lance, but use the momentum to thrust ourselves at him and topple him. Leah at least should recover fast enough to do some damage before he can stand.

The butt of the lance, I should say, not the point

Also, thank you anon for that timely high roll
>>
>Rolled 96

I pretend to resist him as he pulls on my lance, all the while keeping an eye on Leah who is staggering to her feet. She draws another dagger since she dropped her first and she looks absolutely murderous.

I push myself forward surprising the white and green knight, and when the butt of the lance is behind him I quickly pull back and slam the end into the back of his knee. He falls into me and Leah stabs him in the back and drags her dagger down his back as I right myself and spin my lance overhead. Leah jumps back as I thrust my lance into the knights’ throat.

He gurgles when I remove my lance and collapses to the side in a pool of blood.

Alright, I can keep going for a little while longer, but this seems like a good stopping point for the night too. So, if the thread is still here in the morning, I'll continue. If not, then keep an eye on my twitter feed (@EmblemQuester) for updates. Also, if you haven't check out the squad roster, which is updated too (http://pastebin.com/fQDpzdvc).

If that's the last enemy in the prison, we could finish out with letting out the prisoners, and then continue from there with introductions and the like then.

Thanks for running EQ. Can we get a guestimation on when the next thread will be, or is it going to be announced the day before like today's thread?

Also, doing another drawing of Mel, while I practice my FE. We'll see how well I can do, hopefully by next thread.
>>
>>33877071
Assuming the thread is not alive in the morning, no later than next Sunday. Also, releasing the prisoners could be rather lengthy depending on how many questions you have for them. As well as how many you wind up with after hearing them talk. (Wall of Text is likely to ensue)
>>
Oh, and in case anyone wants it, here's the impromptu, approximation height comparison for some of the FE characters from different games. Scaling is based on the number of heads tall each character is, so I can't guarantee if these are entirely accurate.
>>
>>33877116
Alright, next thread then. Thanks for the heads up!

Well then, i better keep this alive.

>>
Okay, Since the thread survived the night I'll keep going! Give me a little while to wake up and eat something and I'll be good to go.
>>
>>33887163
Oh sweet! I was worried I wouldn't catch the continuation of it.

Drawing of Mel continues, by the way. I doubt I'll have anything to show for this thread's continuation, but it is in progress.
>>
>>33888152
I'm really sorry, my family is making do errands for most of the day. I'll have to run it Sunday. Sorry.
>>
>>33889166
Yeah, I saw the tweet, it's okay, EQ. I shall keep working on Mel, and see if I can come up with something better than what I put up before.
