While it's definitely true that you ere looking forward to today's trip into town, you still have your duty as Marianne's bodyguard and all that. Not to mention that she's your friend and you'd feel like absolute garbage if you just went and ditched her.

"...well at least let me walk you to where your father is," you say. "For all we know, whatever message this is might not even take all that long and then we can still go out into town today."
"Yes, Reinhold's right," Luciana joins in. "So how about it, Marianne?"
"If you insist," Marianne sighs. "But don't be too surprised if it's not the case."
"Expect the worst but hope for the best," you nod. "Got it."

With that, the four of you follow Arnaud as he and Anatole lead the way to your next destination.

Suddenly you flash back to something that Citrine told you when you were little about lies spinning out of control.

"Er, no," Luciana replies with a nervous smile, "He's my half-brother."
"...half-brother?" Anatole looks at him with an astonished expression. "Oh, the hair," he nods. "Yeah, I see it."

Luciana's handling this stuff like a pro...

Opting to avoid getting trapped in the web of lies that Luciana is masterfully spinning around her alter-ego, you instead stay out of it while making an effort to listen on just in case there are details of her cover story that you'll be forced to corroborate later.

Before long, you end up stopping in front of what you assume is a conference room. Following Marianne inside, you notice an unfamiliar man sitting at a large table... and someone else who's become -very- familiar to you.

"Marianne, nice to see that you could make it!" the King says as he runs over to his daughter and gives her a big hug.
"...yes, it's nice to see to see you as well, Father," Marianne replies, decidedly less happy to see him than you've ever known her to be.
"And thanks for looking after my baby girl like always, Reinhold!" he laughs, slapping you on the back.
"Just doing my job and all," you reply, trying not to wince.

"Marianne's SOOO pissed at me for screwing up her day," Thierri says, slumping over like a child who's just been scolded.
"Um, I don't think she's really mad at -you-," you reply nervously, "she's just annoyed that her position's-"
"No, I know that look," he shakes his head. "She's pissed at me, and I deserve it for not bothering to keep track of my daughter's plans for the day," he sighs.

He's really beating himself up over this.

"And that's where you come in," Thierri nods.

The King reaches into his breast pocket and pulls out a large coinpouch, then shoves it into your chest.

"...Your Majesty?" you say as you look at the pouch.
"Take that and go to that bakery that Marianne likes," Thierri says. "Buy up all the stuff she likes, that should be more than enough."
"Uh..." you look into the pouch and see that these are mostly GOLD coins. "...this is WAY more than I'd need for something like that," you reply nervously.

Seriously, this looks like more than your already-exorbitant month's pay in here. Does he just casually walk around with this much money on him all the time?

"Well yeah," Thierri shrugs. "Get Luciana... er, -Violette- something nice too while you're at it, show her a good time to make up for me snatching Marianne away like this."

Clapping his hands, Thierri turns to the three of you who won't be sticking around.

"Once again, Miss Violette, I'm REALLY sorry for screwing up your plans for the day," Thierri says.
"No, I understand," Luciana replies. "Marianne and I can always hang out some other time."
"Yes, I suppose we can," Marianne replies.

After some more short farewells, the King finally gets to business and you, Luciana and Takamaru leave the conference room, en route to the castle gate.
