Sorry I'm late, got caught up doing stuff and then grabbing some food.

You take a drag on your cigarette as sailors struggle to get the Evangelion prepped for launch to combat the enemy, and you wonder what would have happened if you'd stayed at the police station when you were sixteen like you should have. Maybe you'd have become an archaeologist, like you always wanted. Maybe you could have played professional rugby and maybe even gone on to represent the UK at the international stage.

Would you have been happy? Probably, you think. A wife, three point six kids, a dog, and a house in the country. But perhaps you weren't destined for something so mundane as professional rugby or teaching university to get research grants and trips funded. Perhaps you were destined to be here, right now. You can't think of any reason why. So you take another drag on the cigarette, and watch men younger than you struggle to prepare for combat against an unknowable enemy. You shouldn't have kissed Misato. You don't know what came over you, but you're glad she dropped it. Wouldn't do to be hung over a radar array on a friendly warship, after all.

This enemy.... Not much you can do, is there? Your weapons won't hurt it. You're not a fifty-five thousand ton machine of war designed to inflict the kind of damage necessary. You're just a man. Sure, you're strong and you're skilled, but those pale in comparison to the Angels. You'd seen footage from the Third and the Fourth's attacks on Tokyo-3. You'd watched Shinji, in Unit-01, mangle them beyond comprehension. Quietly, you wonder if it was the machine or Shinji that had brutualized them after killing them.

>>
You take one last drag from the cigarette, deciding it doesn't matter, and then toss it into the ocean behind you with finality. “The game's afoot,” you tell the empty air beside you. “The game's afoot and I'm but a mouse caught between the hounds and the bear.”

>See if you can't find a way to do some damage.

You wish you hadn't tossed your cigarette into the ocean. Another drag would have been nice. Shrugging, you head for the bridge once more. The admiral and captain have stepped back to allow Misato control, and she's busy giving off a rapid string of orders in a combination of English and Japanese. Shinji is standing out of the way, in a corner, and you move to rejoin him when Misato spots you.

“Cryan,” she snaps. “Are you any good with battle rifles?”

“Good?” you ask her, surprise coloring your voice. “I shoot straighter than men piss stone cold sober.” Several of the bridge crew snickers, and you're reminded that most of these men are barely out of high school.

“Good,” she says. “Find the armory and get somewhere to try and help distract the Angel from 02 and 04.” You sketch a salute and don't tell her you know where the armory is. You glance at Shinji.

“What about Shinji?”

“He's staying here. I don't want him with you, in case something happens to you.” You don't care for the implied 'like I'm hoping,' but you nod.

“Probably for the best.”

“Get going,” she orders, and you take off.

The fellow in charge of the armory is a middle-aged man, going gray in the hair. He looks you up, he looks you down, and you can tell he doesn't like you. But when you mention your need for a rifle, he puts it aside and hands you an M14, along with several magazines.

“Best of luck,” he tells you. At least he can respect professionalism.

REQUIREMENTS TO STOP THE THIRD IMPACT:

1. Destruction of EVA-01. (Most likely avoidable in the long run, recommend assassination of SEELE and Gendo)
2. Destruction of EVA pilots, specifically Shinji. (Again, possibly avoidable in the long run, recommended assassination.)
3. Death of SEELE and Gendo.
4. Sealing or destruction of Adam (This will put a stop to the 3rd impact forever, as it is an essential part of the process.)
5. Ensure Shinji's ego does not break as GNR and the mass produced Evangelions initiate the 3rd impact (This may be exceedingly hard, but if achieved, it will ensure the 3rd impact will be a failure.)

Recommended actions:

1. Ensure that Shinji has a healthy and stable mind.
2. Save Kaworu. (This is shown to be a possibility in the Evangelion 2, PS2 game, where he desires to see everyone's futures. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI0nY2NYpZg This can and will invalidate SEELE's mass assault, as well as the fake Evangelion units)
3. Ensure Pilot cohesion and mental stability (This will support Shinji mentally as well as allow for a coordinated effort to protect NERV from SEELE)
4. Ensure the safety of Tokyo 3 residential areas (This will keep Shinji from breaking down mentally as his friends leave him, which led to reliance on Kaworu.)
5. Ensure Toji's safety if he participates as a Pilot (See 4.)
6. Work with Kaji and Misato to backstab NERV and uncover the truth, and in the end plot Gendo's downfall (This may seem rather far fetched at the moment, however Gendo is hellbent on regaining Yui. There are two ways to achieve this, meld his soul with the Evangelion or the 3rd impact. The former is practically impossible, and the latter is not one we want to have him achieve.)

Hopefully this list will help us in the future.

“You too, mate. We're all going to need it.”

“Heh,” he chuckles. “Give 'em Hell, you jackass.” You shoot him a thumbs up.

“I plan on it, mate. Hell raising's my middle name.” It's not. Not really. You don't tell him that. He probably doesn't care what your middle name is. Sometimes you wonder why your mother gave you your middle name.

You head for the flight deck, and take a look at the top of the carrier's island structure. Yeah, that'll do nicely. You head upwards, and take a perch over looking the ocean. The armory officer didn't give you a rifle with a scope, so you check the sights. They look okay. You'll see how it shoots, eventually.

Five magazines. One goes into the rifle, you slap it in place, rack the bolt back, and flip the safety off, and settle your back against the antenna structure, and settle in to wait. Waiting is the worst part of any engagement, you think. It leaves you time to think about things you'd rather not dwell on.

So instead you think about how Mari's been avoiding you, which is good, you guess, since it means she's not trying to play tonsil hockey with you until you're killed by the heat death of the universe. Basically, you've managed to figure out, she's a lonely girl with a probable? Possible, at least, Electra complex displaced from her father or uncle to you because for whatever reason she thinks you're a decent father figure. Or something. You don't know.

But like you've said before, you're a shitty psychologist and basically all you do is self-medicate with alcohol. And then the ship shakes underneath you and you're thrown against the railing, cracking your head. You wince and rub the spot, before looking around.

Ah, the Evangelions are up and running, both of them. They're probably plugged into the N2 reactors aboard the carriers, then. They both take crouched stances, low to the ground, like wrestlers waiting for an opportunity to strike. You seize the rifle again and stand.

“Route me through to the Evangelions. I'm up high, and I might be able to see things the Kids can't.”

“Don't distract them. They don't need you yelling in their ear.”

“It won't happen.”

“See that it doesn't,” she orders with a finality you don't like. And then you're listening to Mari and Asuka bicker about who would take the lead. You mute your phone, so they can't hear you snickering, and prop the rifle on the railing to lend it some stability.

“Clearly it should be me,” Asuka is saying, “as I'm the better pilot. You're just a silly girl-”

“I am not!” You choke back a laugh, and scan the ocean. You think you see a flash of movement to your left. You check, and there's nothing there.

Swiveling the rifle to bring it to bear, you begin firing, aimed at the large eye. Your rounds slide off something in the air as though there's a wall there. Swearing, you empty the magazine.

Ejecting the spent one, you slap another into the M-14 and swear. “Misato, I'm not doing damage up here and the girls are engaging. Permission to try something else?”

“What are you going to do, throw rocks at it?” She snarls at you, and you swear back.

Sorry about that, needed PIZZA.

>You need to find a helicopter.

“Misato, I need a helicopter. And an N2 mine from the arsenal on board this ship.” You don't know if the kids can hear you, and you don't particularly care, either. There's an enemy that needs killed.

“What are you going to do?”

“I'm going to ride the N2 mine off the helicopter and aim it for the Angel's mouth. When the angel's mouth opens, I'm going to separate from the mine after activating it,and hit my parachute, and aim for the water and not the giant beast's mouth.”

“You're a goddamn fool, Cryan.”

“They pay me to take risks, ma'am. If taking this risk means the kids don't have to, then by goddamn you can bet your ass I'll be riding a mine off a helicopter.”

“Okay,” she sighs. “I'll make it happen. Asuka, Mari, keep the angel above the surface.”

As you descend from the top of the island structure, a quote comes to your mind.

And each man stands with his face in the light
Of his own drawn sword,
Ready to do what a hero can

You cross yourself, wonder why Napoleon III in Italy is coming to mind, and cross yourself again.Odd. You're not a hero. This is probably going to be incredibly dangerous, you realize.

The helicopter is a Black Hawk, like numerous you've been on before. The N2 mine is shoved onboard, and you're handed a parachute. Giving the man the M-14, you strap the parachute one. An ear radio goes on next, and you listen to Mari and Asuka asking what's going on crackle to life in your ear. They've managed to keep the Angel from doing too much damage to the fleet and themselves, thankfully, but the thrashing beast is getting closer to doing such damage.

“I'm doing something extremely stupid, girls, and I want you both to NEVER do something like this. EVER. Unless you're saving the world or something. And only in your Evangelion.”

“Oh,” you think that's Asuka but you can't be sure, they sound similar sometimes- “What if you die?”

“Then it's up to the two of you,” you tell her. “And God help me, I'll die before failing and forcing you two into that.”

“This is going to end very badly,” Mari tosses in as you board the helicopter and strap yourself to the mine.

“I know,” you tell her. “But hey, I'm doing something extremely stupid at risk of life and limb to myself, so you and Asuka can enjoy being teenagers a little longer. You're only fourteen once, Mari!” She mutters something you don't quite catch between it being muttered and the helicopter lifting off.

The ride is swift, at least, leaving you a minimum of time to reconsider and decide, no, you don't actually want to die and this is so stupid you're going to wish you h-

You're there. Mari and Asuka are forcing the beast's mouth open and aiming it up at the sky even as it struggles to free itself. The pilot gives you a thumbs up and nods at you once. You open the door and then you fling the mine out, and it drags you out after it. And then you're falling

Fuck, there's nothing that says you can't improvise. Clinging to the mine, it descends towards the Angel at a startling pace, and you wonder why you have such ideas. “MARI,” you yell over the wind and an explosion off to your left, “CATCH THE MINE AFTER I ACTIVATE IT AND SHOVE IT INTO THE ANGEL'S MOUTH.”

“WHAT?” Mari asks as Asuka hammers a fist into the Angel's eye. Oh god. They can't hear you. “WHAT?” She asks again as you hurtle ever closer.

“C'MON AND SLAM, MARI, IT'S TIME TO JAM,” you bellow. Apparently she catches the reference or the gist of what you're trying to say as you flip the switch on the mine and cut the cord connecting you to the mine, and then you're in freefall tumbling tumbling you're falling down so fast-

You get an arm up and jerk the ripcord on your parachute as hard as possible. The 'chute opens above and behind you and you're hanging for a sickening moment, staring into the maw of an unholy beast the likes of which you never want to see again you need bleach to drown yourself with-

and then you're falling slowly past it as it's hurled into the open ocean beyond the fleet by Asuka's Evangelion, and then you land heavily on a warm mass and something curls around you and your fists tighten and you bring one back-

You're cradled in an Evangelion's hand. Laughing weakly, you struggle out of the parachute. Mindful of your training, you pack it back up neatly in case you need to use it again or so some poor sod doesn't have to do so himself as the pink Unit behind you stands.

You surmise Mari is discussing things with Misato and or Asuka, so you sit down, and watch the rain of fleshy bits as the N2 mine explodes inside the Angel and creates a hole in the ocean where there's absolutely nothing for about one second but nature abhors a vacuum and water comes rushing in.

Seeing as how Lilith technically has claim on our soul or something and her mother already tried to have us blow our own brain out, I think we are past worrying about that.

>>

Lillith doesn't have crazy space powers like that. You're thinking of Giant Naked Rei.

But still, as long as Mari's Evangelion didn't attempt to erode our AT field we wouldn't feel a- WAIT A FUCKING SHIT IS THAT WHY WE TRIED TO KILL OURSELVES? SHE ATTACKED AND BROKE DOWN OUR EGO
>>
>>33855054
OK, well whoever it was that was in our dreams saying she stopped counting how many times we'd tried to save the world, thought it was Lilith but maybe I'm wrong, has claim on our soul.

And yeah, thought it was pretty clear Mari's mom was what made us fellate our pistol.
>>

Rei has those crazy space powers, but they need unlocking.

I have no fucking idea. Apparently "This is a job. You do your work and get paid for it. If you do not work, you do not get paid. Your feelings are not an excuse to get paid without working." is the most sexist thing in the history of mankind, and "If you harass another employee, get the fuck out. Forcing political views on people counts as harassment. Unwanted sexual advances count as harassment. Harassment of any person is not cool, regardless of their position on the privilege chart" is literally Hitler.

Okay nigga lets get some shit straight.
There are three beings involved in instrumentality and the third impact.

One is Adam, which Gendo swallowed. His original form was the giant of light, but is now otherwise inert in that form.

Second, is Lillith. The giant being on the cross. Who basically sits around doing jack all, all day and night. Basically exists to drip LCL to create Lilim.

Now, put these two together, and add Rei, and you get...

Rei/Adam/Lilith hybrid being. Or, Giant Naked Rei, GNR for short.
Who is suspected of being the phantom Rei shown in NGE's episode 1, as well as also being suspected of being akin to the beings that created the white and black moons which give planets life in the form of Angels/Lillim, because they're basically gods.

>>33855256
>Awakened
You mean fused with it's counter part entity and given a will through Rei?
>>
>>33855311
Wait... we're ALL Hitler? Why am I now just being informed about this? This seems to be pretty vital information to have.
>>
>>33855311
Can we round all the gypsies, jehovah's witnesses, slavs, political dissidents, blacks, homosexuals and jews up into labor camps, keep them healthy enough to do work, then attempt to contain a typhus epidemic with damaged supply lines?
Or do we have to focus entirely on the Jews and murder them as soon as they come into camps?
I need to know what kind of Hitler we're following on this magical journey.
>>
>>33855403
There are plenty of different kinds of Hitler.
>>
>>33855339
>You mean fused with it's counter part entity and given a will through Rei?
No, awakened.

Lilith stands there soulless, Rei returning is awakening Lilith.

Rei can do some magic hax, in episode 24 she makes an AT-field.
>>
>>33855339
Yeah, OK. I didn't understand Evangelion when I watched it and I doubt I ever will, but I'll take your word for it. But by that logic, GNR who dresses up as our mom in our head has claim on our soul.

From within the breast pocket of your jacket, you withdraw something sacred to all Agents of all Agencies. A pair of black aviators. With cool finesse, you slide them onto your face, even as the explosion finishes. And then you cross your arms over your chest.

“Yeah,” you say. “Smooth as a motherfucker. I still got it.” The Evangelion behind you doesn't give off the feeling you need to be eating 9mm, so you're going to chalk this one up as a win.

“So,” you ask to the world at large. “Who gets credit for the kill?”

“I'm marking it as shared between the two pilots. Since you're not a pilot you can't share in the credit. However, I will be recommending you get a substantial bonus or time off,” Misato tells you over a PA system on the Evangelion behind you.

Oh god. Time off. You don't know whether to giggle or weep at Misato's pronouncement. You haven't had time off in- years, at least. Unless one counts forced stays in the hospital time off.

“Neat,” you manage to scrape out. “I'll take the bonus, if that's okay with you. I wouldn't know what to do with time off.”

“See a movie, go out to eat, meet a girl?”

Rei is Lillith's will.
This makes them capable of generating AT fields, but not time space warp shenanigans, you need to fuse them for that to happen.

Not at all, it's merely a psychological phenomena that becomes so strong in angels (and human souls amplified by the evangelions) it becomes a physical rejection of reality.
>>
>>33855339
You need the body of Lilith, which is EVA-01 or Lilith. Seemingly, any random human does not count.
You need the soul of Lilith, which is Rei.
You need the body of Adam, which is an angel or the regressed embryo. Unknown whether Unit 00, or 02+ will count.
You apparently do not need the soul of Adam.

Rei entered Unit-01 for a sync test. No third impact.
An angel merged with Unit-00 and Rei. No third impact.
An angel absorbed Unit-01 for a while. No third impact. Additionally, Unit-01 has gone berserk and consumed an angel's S2 engine. No third impact.
Eva-01, Rei, and an Angel were together in Near Third Impact.

Presumably if Rei gets in the fucking (01) robot, and goes berserk while fighting an angel, 3rd impact will happen.

“NOTHING IMPORTANT,” you deny loudly and some sort of scoff greets. Besides, knowing your luck, if you did meet a nice girl, she'd probably turn out to be some kind of super assassin hired to kill you and you still don't know why someone would want you dead. You should probably rectify that.

But for now you don't want to run the risk of the Evangelion accidentally crushing you.

“Asuka, could you help out here?”

“No,” she tells you and you can almost see the shit eating grin she's wearing.

“Don't make me come up there,” you warn Mari, and then add, “kiss whatever dreams of me teaching you to shoot properly goodbye.”The descent of the hand cradling you to the deck of the carrier is swift and abrupt, and you fall onto your rear end, landing heavily. Grunting, you force yourself back up and off the hand.

Brushing nonexistent dirt off your rear, you glare up at the Evangelion.

“I didn't appreciate that,” you tell it. For some reason, it looks like it doesn't care. Yeah, you head for the bridge, still tugging your parachute with you, eager to escape a fourteen year old girl and her machine of death. When you step onto the bridge, you realize you're not on the Taffy Three. You're on the Over the Rainbow.

You make your greeting to the captain and admiral, and then glance at the displays. What you can read indicates that the fleet took casualties, but nothing horribly susbstantial.

“Rescue operations are underway now, sir,” an aide informs the Admiral and Captain in front of you. Arguably, you could offer your help, you're passingly familiar with what it involves, but if something has changed since your training, you'd be out of your depth. Not that you're not already, what with this whole boat business.

“Captain, is there anyway I could get a ride back to the Taffy Three with the Fourth Child?” He turns towards you and struggles to keep from laughing.

“They actually fooled you into calling it that? She's the Leyete Gulf, son.” The past week and a half have been a lie. Why would the sailors perpetrate such a cruel thing upon you? Why would the girls help? You need a drink.

“But sure, sure, we can get you back over there. One of the SAR birds should be able to help you out as soon as they're finished. Go wait on the flight deck or something, all right?”

“Yes sir,” you don't salute, but calling a man sir on his own ship never hurt. You head back to the flight deck and take a seat against the wall of the island structure. You close your eyes behind your sunglasses, and try for a catnap in the sun.

It doesn't happen. Someone sits next to you, and you sigh. “Hello, Mari.”

“Hi, Dec! Did you see me totally punch the Angel?”

“Yes,” you tell her. “I saw you punch it in the face. That was nice.”

“Right? Someone should make a movie about me staring me and Liam Neeson as you since he's Irish and more handsome than you.”

“You did good, kid. But next time you need some crazy cunt to ride a live warhead off of a helicopter, don't call me.”

“It was your idea to begin with,” she points out. You nod.

“Yes. Yes it was. And it was stupid and if anyone ever tells you otherwise, you tell them the cunt that did it said it was stupid and he did it for lack of anything better to do. The entire reason I'm still working for NERV is that I can't stomach sitting back and letting you kids do all the work to protect humanity. Granted, I'm not a very good person, but still.”

“I don't know, Dec,” she says, and the pet name sends shivers down your spine, only the woman in your dreams calls you tha- “I think you're better than most. You're not the best, of course not, but-”

“Why do you like me?” You ask. You're tired of pussy-footing around. You're a grown ass man and she's old enough to talk about shit like an adult or at least pretend to be, if she's going to kiss you in front of a giant machine that is also possibly a cyborg-

“You're handsome and you're brave,” you're not brave you've never been brave, you've only done what you had to do, “and you can be really nice some of the time, but others you're a real jerk.”

Yeah. This is not going well. You need to be able to ask someone about this but you can't, not until you get back to Tokyo-3, so you can discuss this with Tricky Dicky, maybe. He's generally given you good advice when you've asked (never, a voice in the back of your head whispers,) but he's played everything straight before, and probably will this time.

“Work on your cohesion,” you tell Mari as you stand and head for a helicopter. “You need to be able to trust the fellow at your back more than you trust yourself.”
