So.. how does one get hold of this game?
>>
>>33842845
There is no game, all that exists is a bunch of concept art and screens and iirc a design doc with lofty goals made by people with no programming experience. Sorry bro but it's not looking likely at the moment.
>>

>he thinks he knows shit

the doc file was made by few retard that were not part of the team and they thought, that they may contribute or somehow affect the process of game development

>>33842945

>If he made sure to make the game generic enough I think it'd work, but at that point the main draw would be gone.

we already had this exact same posts you and the other guy is making before. But the "why not kickstarter?" was a op of a thread.

At the thread we had the idea of creating our own setting. And we made polls to decide it.

After days of polls, interest on then ended. At the time we were at this:

A science fantasy (with the fantasy part being high fantasy and the scifi part being hard scifi).
This setting has more than one god, (sapient and sentient) aliens, magic and monsters. Time travel is impossible on this setting, and multiverse travel is impossible and there is/was only one universe.
The setting is on present(last year july, when the poll was created) or future. The exact would would be decided on next polls
PS: The difference between monsters and aliens is that monsters are magical or arent realistic/pseudo-realistic.

Nope.

The exact same thing that happened here
1-"why not kickstarter it"
2-"they will sue us"
3-"why not our own setting then?"

happened on a thread, the thread creator created the thread with the kickstarted question if I remember (and so was not posted on a thread). The thread derailed into the exact same thing "lets build our own setting".
People start to discuss around this idea and polls started to be made to decide how the setting would be. The idea was that even if we continue to make a 40k one, it would be a fun a idea see how a collectively decided setting from scratch would be, so if we continue with 40k nothing would be lost.

On some chapter master threads some told that talking about this new setting would run the fun of the thread (trying to imagine how the game would be if real), and people started to create separated thread for this setitng idea.

Every marine has about twenty or so variables that are stored in several arrays. They have a primary weapon, secondary weapon, armor, gear, and mobility slot to be equip with, in addition to other stuff like experience/corruption, etc. Combat is decently detailed in a sort of Dorf Fortress text-style. Used to work differently.

Managing forge-worlds currently is not a thing, since it's assumed the Mechanicus handle all that.

Excellent. Going through the document now. I have a bad habit of checking email way after other tasks. But yes, answering questions every now and then is amusing.

>>33848085
Kind of depends. There are a few ways to lower enemy forces from a planet- you can unload marines onto it, and get attacked (if the PDF and Guardsmen are gone), taking the brunt of the enemy forces. Instead you can load up ships and STEEL REHN right into the enemy, attacking less of them at once, doing more damage, but lacking access to most vehicles. Each time this happens the enemy forces will be depleted by a certain stage.

You are also able to trade with the Sector Commander to call for a crusade, which has ships and Guardsmen start migrating en masse to a selected area, likely taking out enemies with them.
>>
>>33848018
How will recruitment work? There'll be a steady flow of neopythes periodically or will teher be any other way?

Also, will we be able to manage a bit our chapter's homeworld and fleet? with things like upraging gear or build stuff?

How will marines climb the ranks up to the first company? or better, will they?

Or a marine from the 4th company will remain in the 4th company until forever?

You can set the rate of recruitment for marines/specialists and also trade or purchase additional recruiting planets, which greatly accelerates the rate of neophytes.

That is correct.

Once they have enough experience they are eligible to be promoted to whichever target company. Random events, missions, and combat gives them more experience.

About 25-30 stars, but it's all procedural generated. If that turns out to be too small then it can be easily changed.

This screenshot is the baseline for a starting chapter, without selecting certain advantages. Honor Guard are not shown in this screenshot but are a valid unit type. If any of you are insane enough to chart out Founding Chapters, down to the company and vehicle occupants, that would help considerably.

Not many at all. All marines have a good chance to survive, even at 0 health, and those that don't might be saved by present apothecaries. 100 Space Marines vs 100 Orks should evaporate them in the first round of combat. 10th company vs 300 or 400 orks might lose a handful of scouts, and actual marines are more than twice as beefy with their armor.

Turn-based, object-oriented game. Characters are main objects, they got classes. Classes got functions - choices of character of a class. Outcome of a character choice creates a difference in characters stats and can kill a character.
It's going painfully slow because I'm a lazy fuck who can't do stuff alone, but anyone who wants can help by learning python with me and coding with me.
Bonus is once mainframe of the game is done, there can be simulated any setting with multiple planets.

Fluff-wise, it is possible if you perform galaxy-wide planet exterminatus by fire. Or borrow dem dark eldar stuff and use it galaxy-wide. But they will probably adapt to the last in some places where WAAARGH is too strong.
In a game, theres going to be a sector to be simulated, so orks may come from outside. But would be fun for there to be metagame options to unlock like "burn fucking spores once you kill orks". Chance to unlock them should come at price and need random event or hard work.
>>

>Stockpiling a certain amount of Artefacts will result in a Blood Ravens Visit, which means your stock goes missing, and Blood Ravens unfortunately have some kind of benefit from dealing with on regular terms meaning working against them to ass fuck them means you loose these benefits, so it's a doubled edged sword

Yeeeaaah except they don't really need support, you can just install a virtualization layer in between and run pretty much anything you want. It doesn't work for everything such as graphic intense applications a.k.a. video games in most cases, because vidya is generally optimized and linux virtualization isn't made for video games in the first place.

Something text based like this with minimal graphics, based on an existing framework? Should run fine with some tweaking.
>>
>>33851273
That is true, I have just had bad experiences with my own GM8 applications in wine.
>>
I know it is far too late for this, but I would much prefer a time system similar to aurora.
In aurora the game is technically turn based, but everything is measured in seconds, so you can advance time by anything between either 5 or 30 second I can't remember which, and a month.
With 40k's metric-esque time system this would be child's play by allowing you to move fractions of a year
This would be easily modded in I think, simply changing values and only checking certain things every certain amount of time to cut back on performance issues.
>>
>>33851948
Duke here, pretty much out of screenshots.

I agree that would be relatively simple to implement, provided that I started with that in mind from the beginning. It's theoretically possible that I could implement a 'choose time' button with the end turn button, and increase time by a fraction, and make the chance for events to be a fraction, and ship distances a fraction. It'd probably take a day to do so.

What is your reasoning behind adding such a feature, hypothetically? Ship still would take months to get places, and random events would still happen in the same number of intervals. Training and recruitment would also take the same precise number of time, simply more or less turns depending on how much you skipped.

How would you see this being used?
>>
>>33852024
Well you obviously know more details than I do.
The reason it matters in aurora is because of the combat, and multiple "layers" of things happening.
So if combat is pretty simple in this requiring little direct imput from the player, and there is little to no in-system movement, the only real use for this would be if you want to micromanage production or something, which I don't even know is a thing.
I guess there is one big question that needs answering; will planets be a single "unit" or area marines are assigned to, or will a planet have multiple areas your marines can move around in? If the former, my idea is likely useless, and if the latter, my idea might have some use.
>>
>>33852024

Different anon, but I figured it would be more like FTL? There is time that passes based on what you're and events happen in between. For example, it takes X amount of time to get to Ork infested planet. While travelling through the warp, events happen based on how much time you're using to get there. Same for real space but with space hulks and other stuff.
>>
>>33852107

>If any anons wish to take a crack at calculating the Lamenters/Blood Raven/Lamenters (should be less calculating with them)/Angry Marine/Star Kraken companies that would be nice.

If I'm understanding the question correctly, this should do for the Star Krakens:

>The Star Kraken are organised into a non-standard arrangement: Every company has a single scout squadron, five tactical units, two assault units, one devastator unit and a unit of veterans whom accompany the Brother-Captain. This configuration best suits the nature of the Deep, where the Strike Cruisers of the Kraken are often separated by weeks of travel time, yet still expected to operate despite such isolation from one another. Likewise these units may be of differing strength or size dependent on the vessel they serve aboard, as individual Captain's may scale their forces based on experience, and any number of the companies veterans may be serving aboard the Holdfast at any given time. The exception to this rough rule is the First Company, who replace their scout unit with the Chapter's only unit of Terminators - Mokoyll, first company commander, believes there is no situation that can be solved via scouting, that can't be more effectively solved with a full terminator assault.

There are specific differences among some of the companies (at least some of the more fleshed out ones) that are all available on the legacy page.

I was in several of the first Star Kraken threads, however long ago. They're one of my more fond homebrew chapters. Even if I don't like the direction they later took.

As is, in the first Chapter selection slide, you can choose from the loyalist founding chapters, several existing/homebrew chapters, or custom/random. There's about four or so slots left for later-founding / homebrew chapters. Pretty much what I have shown in the screenshot.

Those last empty slots will be replaced by popular request, most likely, assuming it isn't all redone for the later Beta UI. I imagine then I'll be able to fit a lot more chapters regardless of what you see now.

I took a lot of inspiration from MOO2. The UI and fleet movement is pretty much the same.
>>
>>33852577
excellent work.
>>
>>33852576
>>33848401
Once a fleet battle occurs you go to the battle and get to watch it unfold in real time. Ships blow each-other to bits, explosions, gives you a post-battle screen that shows damage/marines lost.

Ground combat used to be the same, but it has since been replaced with a text-display sort of battle screen. Think Dwarf Fortress.
>>
>>33852528
what precisely do you have planned for in terms of support? Or rather, support for the Chapters?

Like lets say I court a rogue trader and kill some annoying aliens/people for him and he gives me artefacts in return?

Or lets say I do dirty work for an inquisitor and he overlooks me being chummy with the tau so I can get xenotech weapons etc.

you plan to implement things of this nature?
>>
>>33852630
And how good are SM vessels compared to others? Although I trust you've found a good balance.
>>
>>33852528
I was around during their founding as well, though I didn't have anything meaningful to contribute. They're easily one of my favorite chapters and I'm currently painting up an army of the 9th company.

I had some questions about the game, though I think they might have been asked before:

Do your marines ever interact with other Imperial elements, either positive or negative?

Is there some kind of generic feature that lists the honors/glories your chapter has earned?
>>
>>33852700
I almost directly pulled the stats from Battlefleet Gothic, but ended up needing to halve the enemy health and firepower to give the player a chance. Even after that losing ships hurts, and it's pretty easy to have happen.

>>33852692
>Support From Chapters
Currently there is very little interaction with other Chapters. That's one of the things I need to work on.

Rogue Traders are more events/forces of nature/discounts at the moment, but you can get artifacts from great crusades, the inquisition, exploration, and random events.

In short: yes.

>>33852750
Your marines have a chance to eat Guardsmen/fallen allies if you take the Flesh Tearers mutation, which name I forget. Otherwise not really.

There is not a HONORS page yet, which is in part due to the need of a new UI.
>>
>>33852810
okay cool, I wasn't asking about support from other chapters so much as support you can get from like, the ecclesiarchy and what have you. But yeah, sounds cool.
>>

I guess I'll have to prioritize ship production.

Do you have an orbital bombardment system in place yet, and if not is it a goal?

Is Geneseed modification going to be a thing and does mutations and seed defects similar to the space wolfays and Blood Angels affect combat?
>>
>>33853882
When you create a custom chapter, if you did not pump up your Gene-Seed purity with points, you have to select X mutations from a list. They affect random stuff like combat effectiveness. It's not quite filled out/planned to the extent that I would like. It's also possible to mutate from random events, and other stuff*, but that moreso hits your loyalty then offering any penalties/bonuses.

One of the last things I need to do is get ALL the mutations in the game programmed and working, now that I look at the notes.

The Red Thirst is already working, since that's one of the disadvantages you may take. I'll need to read up upon the Wolf Wolfs before I program theirs.

In case you're still reading this, how about an array of arrays in arrays?

Basically
>1000 size array for chapter
>each array has a 1000 arrays for companies
>each company has room for a 1000 marines

It's not like empty arrays use up a lot of memory or that modern computers can't handle something like this if it's text based. Arrays use static memory calculation anyway so it wouldn't even affect speed.

>I almost directly pulled the stats from Battlefleet Gothic, but ended up needing to halve the enemy health and firepower to give the player a chance. Even after that losing ships hurts, and it's pretty easy to have happen.

Since BFG is balanced internally, yeah. Similar sized fleets engaging will hurt both sides badly. Which is fine for one-off games like BFG, but for a continuous force, having every engagement lose you 30% or more of your force doesn't really work. A bit of tweaking in that regard sounds reasonable.

Not that I'm a 40k fluff expert, but while the Marines do have their own fleets, don't they tend to leave most of the heavy, front-on space battles to the Imperial Navy, simply due to the Navy having more ships and personnel? I was under the impression that Marine naval forces operated under similar principles to their ground forces- small in number, elite, usually doing quick surgical strikes. Is that not how things are going to go in Chapter Master, or am I simply misremembering?

You generally want your fleet spread out to multi-task threats. The AI opponents and Imperial Navy always have like 10x as many ships as you, which in part is why losing ships is easy. You might decide to send a vessel or two to raid some Ork forces, at planet X, only for it to be overwhelmed and start pumping out ships before you get there.

>>33866909
I enjoy making games like no one's business, of pretty much every kind. Especially programming them. Close to a year back I saw a Chapter Master thread where several people parroted the "TG never gets shit done" and "It will never happen". Lacking any large project at the time I decided to start on CM. Several breaks have been taken since then, but it's too far along now to call it quits.

Alrighty. I was just thrown a bit by the screenshots of space battles so far where it's a head-on fight between what seems like roughly equal forces.

Needs more wolf, otherwise looks legit.

That is so obviously paint I don't know how you even have to ask. The things he changed are off-color slightly and you can see where the A in Ultra got nipped off on the right side when he deleted 'marines'.

All of my thumbs up then. Good luck!

Not to mention everything is off center and heavy wolf isn't even centered with itself

>Start a random chapter
>Blood Angels successor
>Pretty standard, got a decent fleet and armory, at full strength
>Boring for a while, clearing my system of local xenos
>Suddenly Ork Rok appears and lands on a hive world before I can even react
>Send my entire chapter to respond
>STEEL REHN, with fire and sword in this motherfucker.
>Going pretty well, only about 3 squads down as we encircle them and push them back to the Rok
>Suddenly PDF starts dying way quicker
>My space marines too
>whatthefuck
>3 companies and two dreadnoughts succumbed to the Black Rage at once, rage spiral
>ohshit
>Four chaplains, scramble all of them to rush to join those companies
>Two die in transit, the others simply can't command that many units at once
>Destroy the Ork Rok, but also 70% of the PDF and 15% of the Hive world in the process
>Lose 50% of the chapter putting down our lost brothers
>Down to about a company worth, as well as one chaplain with death company squad and dreadnought
>Xenos contact detected
>Craftworld appears above the planet, ready for battle
>All planet defense systems offline or destroyed
>Let them come, brothers.

>Make my own homebrew chapter, IF successors
>Badge, banner, all my captains named, aw ye
>Play this game for MONTHS
>Destroy an Eldar Craftworld, Necron World Engine, several Ork Roks, drive back a tyranid hive, and take out an entire chaos fleet.
>The Chapter has suffered and prospered, risen and fallen, tasted victory and defeat
>I have watched many great heroes rise from scouts to captains, all stalwart and proud
>My chapter master is still the original, however. Commander Abraham, Chapter Master of the Sons of Abraham
>Chapter Master is absolutely venerated, held next to the Emperor himself
>Causes much strife between between us and some of the others
>At the Feast of Blades, my brothers start a fight with the Sons of Dorn over who are the truest Sons
>Our brother chapters eventually abandon us for our pride, but our Chapter Master does not even flinch
>He does not flinch even when a warp storm breaks out on our world, all around our fortress monastery
>He does not flinch when Mortarion himself comes with his Death Guard
>Signal a nearby Black Templar fleet, but they relay they have they are pursuing an unnamed warband and leave us.
>Months pass in this siege, our numbers dwindling by the day, down to two companies worth, mostly veterans.
>Mortarion finally breaches the walls himself and Abraham moves to face him in an honor duel.
>Battle rages for hours until Mortarion gets hit in the leg and topples into the warp storm
>Abraham goes after him
>Warp storm dissipates, battle is won.
>The remaining brothers, led by First Company Captain Jeremiah and Sixth Company Captain Jericho lead their 137 men into the remaining barges
>They set off for the eye of terror
>They will find their chapter master

>Playing the Crusade against Chaos mod
>Have a great time purging some chaos infested worlds.
>Get bored.
>Looks around for the "abandon chapter" button.
>Notice the modder renamed it "Launch for the eye!"

Anyone got any good Men of Iron stories?

>Find archeotech station.
>Picking though goodies, trying to find something important enough that the =I= will get off my back.
>Box up the most promising finds, load them back on the ship.
>Halfway back to base, alert pops up.
>Something's shooting up the cargo bay.
>Deploy Devastator squad.
>They get flattened, and whatever got them gets out before I close the door.
>fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck
>Tell every marine on the battle-barge to get his gear on, unlock armour bay.
>Shooty thing (pretty sure by now its some kind of super-Man of Iron) is going through marines like they're made of cheese, devastator hits it dead-on with las-cannon; does jackshit.
>Retreat to armour bay to make last stand.
>Have idea.
>Wait until MOI is right on the threshold of the armour bay.
>Close 600-ton door on it.

Vbcoder hasn't been online for months. Apparently yet another dude is working on it now.

Yep, looked like a tin can that had been run over by a tank. Once we prised the bits out of the door, there was actually a penalty for gathering archeotech from it, cause it was so smashed up.

It's in the OP.

The only response better than that is to actually post the thing I was talking about.
Is there an archive somewhere of all or a bunch of stories for this?
