You can't prove I'm late.

- - - - - -

You bend your legs to absorb the impact from jumping out of the pelican. You've landed on a narrow walkway in the Traxus Tower complex, with a smattering of Covenant between you and friendly forces. To your right, a brute captain, a few jackals, and a handful of grunts. To your left, a grunt heavy weapons team with fuel rods and a plasma cannon. The fuel rods are preoccupied with firing at Penny's Pelican as she flies off, but the plasma cannon has wheeled around to face you and the squad. You duck into cover right before it opens fire.

You've got yourself a battle rifle, a bandoleer of grenades, and three squadmates to back you up.

The spartan can probably make use of the fuel rod guns. If these ones don't self destruct.

if we don't get another reply in the next ten minutes, would it be alright to begin writing?

What makes you think he isn't?
>>
>>33835114
I remember from a previous thread thread, he said that he would wait until he felt there were enough votes to begin writing.

of course, I'm not sure how much is 'enough'.

Still, maybe he should make a post that indicates that he has begun writing?

"We've gotta do something about that heavy weapons team!" you tell your squadmates.
"I'm open to suggestions," replies Lancer. "We're kinda pinned down, though." To demonstrate, he waves his hand outside of cover, before pulling it back in, and is answered by returning plasma fire.
"Don't get your fucking hand shot off," says Erika.
"I got some grenades," you say. "Should soften them up enough for us to pick them off."

Matilda coughs and clears her throat, drawing your attention. She then leans out, fires a shot, then ducks back, and the plasma fire stops.
"Got the wanker," she says simply. "Those fuel rod guys have caught on, though. There's two of them, so if I get one the other my get me."

"I'll take down one as you take down the other," you say to Matilda.
Matilda nods in return. "You two," she points at Erika and Levern. "You give us covering fire." She turns back to you. "Count it down from three."
You ready yourself and your rifle. "Three... Two... One!"
Erika and Levern both poke their heads out, firing their rifles on full auto and suppressing the grunts at the other end of the walk way. Matilda pops out on one side and shoots one of the grunts. You follow it up by taking down the other.

Erika and Lancer halt their fire, and you see the grunts panic and scatter, running about screeching and squealing.
"That's got them stirred up," says Matilda.
You look behind you to see the Brute's pack, but they're preoccupied with firing on the other group of marines in front of them.
"Finish off those grunts, or do we kill the gorilla and his buddies?" Asks Levern.

"Let's push forwards, finish off those grunts. The others can handle that Brute."
You step out, and use your battle rifle to pick off one of the screaming grunts, silencing it forever. The others follow, advancing slowly and using single shots to pick off the flailing creatures as they go.

The remaining resistance gets cleared up with little effort, leaving you on the walkway surrounded by grunt corpses.
Matilda contacts Penny over the comm. "Penny, how's it look from up there?"
"You're clear on that walkway," comes Penny's reply. "The building ahead of you leads to the landing pad. Looks like a Brute pack and a couple of anti-air shades. Lot of heavy resistance down there."
"Thanks for the heads up, Penny." Matilda turns towards you, ready to speak, but is interrupted by the screech of your comm unit.
"Watch out! A pair of banshees are vectoring onto your position!"
You turn, and see the pair coming towards you. Why has it always been Banshees today?

Today's session will probably be short, because if I wanted to do the standard six hour run it would end up being something like 5am on the American East Coast when I'm done.

Probably another hour or two left, I'll try and finish this engagement.

"Lancer, laser!"
"On it!" He replies.
"Everyone else, scatter!"
You duck out of the way as the banshees start firing, narrowly avoiding their plasma.
Despite the incoming, Lancer stands there and charges his laser, keeping one of the banshees in his sights. With a roar, the laser fires, piercing one of the banshees, and splashing off the side of the other. The banshee that took the hit directly goes down in flames, and the other one flies away, intimidated.

"That's another kill for me!" the ODST gleefully shouts.
"How many does that make?" you ask him.
"I don't know, I lost count at thirty! And that's just banshees!"
"You're a walking anti-air battery," says Matilda. "Let's keep moving."

The four of you charge forwards, towards the building that stood between you and the landing pad. Before you even round the corner, plasma fire reaches out. Matilda, in the lead, ducks back and sticks to her cover, and holds a hand out for the rest of you to hold. Out of one of her pouches she pulls out a fibre optic camera. She snakes it around the corner, looking around.
"I see a brute pack, loads of grunts, and a few jackals," she says. "Oh, bollocks."
"What is it?" says Lancer.
"There's a pair of chieftains in there too, one with a gravity hammer and one with a fuel rod."

"Any cover?" you ask.
"Sparse at best. There's a second level walkway around the entire foyer. Part of it's collapsed near us on the right, enough to form a good barrier between them and us. That one with the gravity hammer could put one hell of a wrench in whatever plans we come up with."

we need height if that gravity hammers going to ruin our cover, stay high and keep moving

> Aggressive assault
keep them off guard so they can't swarm us and when the rest of the force shows up they will blindside them

"Let's take the upper level and give 'em hell from above."
Matilda looks out with her fibre optic again. "Right, when we get in there, hug the left wall and head up the stairs. The other side's collapsed."
"Okay, let's get moving."

Matilda counts it down, and the four of you sprint in, hugging the wall on the left. Plasma fire bites at your heels, but none of it catches you. You make it to the stairs in one piece, and gun down the single grunt standing at the top.
Plasma fire hammers over your head as the majority of the covenant below open up, keeping you suppressed. With no other options, you ready a grenade, and toss it over the top. The explosion occurs, and a brute growl and grunty squeals ensue. The fire lets off for a moment, allowing you to stand up and pour lead into the horde below.

You mow down the mob of enemies. Your fire isn't as effective against the brute chieftain, who stands and roars defiantly, pointing at you. To your utter shock, he picks up one of the grunts and throws it at you, nearly hitting you as you duck back below the railing.
"Bloody hell," says Matilda. "Never seen them do that before."
She readies a grenade of her own, then tosses it over. More death to the covenant, but they've learnt now, and the fire doesn't let up. Your cover is beginning to glow red from all the plasma it's taking.

"You didn't happen to have a back up plan, did you?" asks Lancer.
"Covies are climbing up the stairs!" says Erika as she begins to fire her rifle in full auto. "They're swarming us! They're seriously swarming us!"
A green flash thunders over your head, as a fuel rod impacts the ceiling above you, showering you in hot embers.
"This is NOT how I envisioned this going!" you yell.

The battle is interrupted by a cry from the entrance. A full squad of ODSTs rushes through, firing their weapons and screaming a battle cry. And at their head, a spartan clad in grey armour.
"Someone you know?" Levern asks.
You add your fire to the assault as the new wave pushes in, clearing out the building. After a short battle, only the landing pad remains to be cleared. The four of you climb down from your perch, and are confronted by the new arrival.

"Radio's buzzing about you, Spartan," the grey-clad super soldier says. "Something about treason, and a Detain on Sight order. You've been stirring up trouble."
"Never thought I'd meet another S-III," Matilda replies. "Isn't this one hell of a day?"
One of the marines walks in from outside. "Landing pad's clear," he says. "Our evac's gonna be here in a few minutes."
The grey spartan nods, then turns back to Matilda. "Got a few minutes to chat?"
"We're not going anywhere."

And that's all for tonight. As always, relevant links are in the OP. Next thread will be on Thursday (Wednesday for Americans) at the usual time, an hour after I say it is. See you then.
