@QMKingofHearts.

The date is October 15th, UC 0083. You are Commander Dominic O'Hara, and you just wrapped up crushing another young man's hopes and dreams under a merciless barrage of paint grenades. Ensign Kou Uraki in Gundam GP-01 faced off against yourself in the modified Kämpfer meant for Rossweisse, and suffered a savage beating the likes of which you've rarely seen. The poor guy's been pretty silent for most of the trip back to the Albion.

On the upside, you'll be happy to report that you figure Rossweisse's new machine should be capable of keeping up with her growing abilities... at least for a while.
(1/2)
>>
>>33824142
As you step out of Rossweisse's machine, you give Uraki an understanding nod. Despite his obvious disappointment, he manages to return a salute. That's a good sign that he'll take your advice to heart and learn from his defeat rather than wallow in self-pity, and you make sure to return his salute.

Others around the hangar seem to be reacting to the results of your mock battle as well. You can see Nina at one end of the hangar, furiously marching in your direction and parting the sea of technicians and crew between you like she's Moses: likely coming to scold you for kicking the shit out of her Gundam and its pilot. On the other hand, you also see Monsha and Bate up on one of the catwalks making no attempt to hide their delight at Uraki's embarrassment. Chap seems to be with them as well, though his thoughts on the battle seem more mixed.

Nina's anger is perhaps understandable, but something about Monsha continues to rub you the wrong way.
>Face the wrath of Nina: it's better to turn and face into the storm (write-in)
>Go tell Monsha and Bate off: their attitude is toxic to the rest of the crew(write-in)
>Neither of these things concern you, go give your report to Karen and South (write-in)

>>Neither of these things concern you, go give your report to Karen and South (write-in)
Make sure to not look at, acknowledge, or recognize Nina's existence as we leave.
>>
>>33824240
> Face the wrath of Nina: it's better to turn and face into the storm (write-in)
Be professional about it. Besides, the Gundam isn't trashed, it'll just need some cleaning.
And the pilot is now more experienced and has a feel for the machine, unless she wanted both him and the Gundam blown up the first time they deploy. And that'd just leave a bad impression in the Feds' eyes.
>>
>>33824240
>Face the wrath of Nina: it's better to turn and face into the storm (write-in)
"Wake up, princess. You both needed to see that's combat's not purely about who has the better MS. Better for Kou to face this defeat and learn through it, than for him to be defeated in battle and lose his life as well as the suit."
>>
Was re-reading last thread and we have THE Kampfer that fought the Alex, right?

>the one that attacked Libot Colony.

>>33824240
>Face Nina

Calmly stand there and listen. Say nothing.

When she finishes her tirade, "Aptitude doesn't mean jack if your pilot is an amateur. He could have gotten himself killed - and your precious toy wrecked - if he went out against the 02 as he is."
>>
Fucking Nina, what a bitch. Even Quess is better than her.

These guy's aren't under our direct command. It's Burning's job to kick their asses

>Face the wrath of Nina: it's better to turn and face into the storm (write-in)
"Specs-wise, the GP-01 is an excellent machine. But we're going to be fighting against veterans pilots who survived the War; you have to assume that they're all Ace material, and an Ace with an inferior machine can still take out a superior suit."
>>
>>33824347
That is correct. This unit belonged to Mikhail Kaminsky, and has been slowly repaired for evaluation.
>>
>>33824240
>Face the wrath of Nina: it's better to turn and face into the storm

Just give us our thoughts and recommendations on the performance of the GP01.
>>
>>33824414
We'll haft to install a mini-fridge in it to keep our beer frosty.
>>
Kinda dissapointed everyone's being so reasonable, she's basically chewing us out for getting paint on her Pewecious Gwundam during a practice match.
>>
>>33824450
And panoramic cockpits, in case we don't have those. Because those things are nifty.
>>
>>33824450
I thought Rossweisse is going to pilot it?
>>
>>33824485
They all have raging secret Nina boners.
>>
>>33824494
Then she'll be able to keep her beer frosty.

>writing
>>
And by the way, I thought we selected hard mode and got somewhat upgraded suits? How did it go to becoming better that the Gundams?
>>
>>33824485
I hate the bitch, but the only way to deal with her is to be reasonable and GTFO before she goes nuts. Minimize the reasons for her to bitch-out and we should be fine.
>>
>>33824494
Doesn't mean we can't get her a Mini-Fridge, some Shag Carpet and a love seat for when we come over.
>>
>>33824518
Kou just sucks so much.
>>
>>33824518
The dice. Plus Kou a shit.
>>
>>33824518

It was a case of a One Year War Veteran Ace in a modified Kampfer Vs a Rookie Pilot in a Untested GDP MS...
>>
>>33824494
The drunker you are while in a Kampfer the better you pilot. Cold beer is equal to being a newtype.
>>
>>33824518
Our bullets were replaced with carrots.
Kou stood no chance.
>>
>>33824531
Right now, but we will make a Man of Destiny of him yet.

We are just early in his character arc.
>>
>>33824609
I meant the machine specs. Didn't it say that the Lilum was better than the machines we're helping to develop?
>>
>>33824641
Kou can eat his carrots for all I care. He already has his own commander
>>
>>33824672
His commander gets killed trying to deliver Gunpla torrents to /m/.
>>
Man, I dunno what the fuck's going on the counter for unread posts at the top seems to be permanantly stuck at (0).

Fucking 4chanx.
>>
>>33824622
It would be funny if the paint rounds were orange. PTSD route is a go.
>>
>>33824642
I think King said that the Lilum and other machines are slightly below the specs of the GP series. But it doesn't matter because we're a better pilot than Kou and Gato
>>
>>33824642

... Our suits are are spec'ed for New Types, not to mention we have been exclusively playing with Axis's Psyco-frame prototype, which is currently on the ship acting as a control system for our lovely little Psyco-Mines... We also have strapped many extra thrusters onto it...
>>
>>33824642
Our machine is a Frankenstein's monster from all the crap we've been upgrading it with, and it still gets torn apart if we aren't careful. I think difficulty was more related to plot armor than mech specs.
>>
>>33824693
Probably FF31. Turn security.use_mozillapkix_verification to false in about:config.
>>
>>33824642
Mostly that's because we're using Newtype-customized mobile suits, so we've got more responsive suits than normal to accommodate our reflexes. But in terms of armor and weaponry they're about equal, and the Full Burnen pack gives the GP01 better control in space than we have. The one big advantage we have, tech-wise at least, are the Twin Hyper Rifles. Those things are just broken. Hearts gave us ZZ-level firepower in a pre-Gryps suit. I expect we'll wind up fighting some units with I-Fields to compensate for that.
>>
>>33824517
As much as you'd like to take time out of your day to deal with the three stooges, you'd like even better to keep Nina as a friend... or at least not have her out for your blood. And something about that bright red, nearly demonic aura radiating from her makes you think it'd be well worth your while to nip this potential issue in the bud.

"Miss Purpleton," you greet her coolly as she closes in on you, followed by the nervous stares of many of her subordinates.

"Don't you pull that 'officer and a gentleman' act on me now, Commander," she snarls.

You shake your head. "Didn't think that'd make it any easier.... go ahead."

"What the hell is your problem? I mean, we all know you're the better pilot by a fair bit, but did you really have to embarrass Kou like that?"

"Kou?" you ask, raising one eyebrow.

"Yeah," she retorts, "the guy piloting MY masterpiece? While he was out there getting pummeled by you in a restored antique from the war, *I* had to explain to Admiral Kowen why he was under-performing so badly! It's a goddamn nightmare for both of us!"

Wow, was the Admiral really watching the fight? That's different... you're not used to flag officers paying this careful attention to what his subordinates are doing. It strikes you as an almost hands-on approach.

"Look," you explain to her calmly. "I had to remind Ensign Uraki something that every mobile suit pilot learns in basic: that the machine is only as good as its pilot."

This time it's Nina's turn to look skeptical. "So you're trying to say you did him a favor?"

"Exactly. The guy has some aptitude even being able to get that thing to move after just a day or two, but he still needs to improve. Far better that he find out now instead of halfway through a fight with the guy who stole Unit 02, wouldn't you agree?"

Nina visibly deflates.

"Fine," she eventually concedes. "I see your point. Just... try and go a little easier on the guy? He's got enough to worry about as it is."

That reminds me: Aubrey said we could hoverskate with them. But we don't have the air intakes suits like the Dom does. So does that mean we have to limit our use of it to short bursts of speed to conserve reaction mass? Sort of like boost dashing in an Armored Core game, that sort of thing?
>>
>>33824764
"I'll consider it," you tell her, earning a scoff as she turns to walk away.

Looking around, you notice that Monsha and the other pilots of the "Immortal 4th" have left the scene. You could try and catch up to them and give them a piece of your mind, but then again it may be the case that the moment for that has passed.

As they should be, the GPs are already like Zeta "powerlevel" IIRC, so that is 4 years ahead of time?

I'd rather not get involved in Monsha, but I have to admit, he's done well to come back from our humiliating him before, he's like a cockroach.

No point of chiding Monsha for being a asshole if we act rude ourselves when doing it.

We need to tell the old man our concerns and see what his suggestion is. We want to nip this shit in the bud but it's Souths call on how we go about it.

Was thinking about alternative uses for our psychomines. Remove the explosives, wrap the thing in neodymium, and maglock spare e-caps and ammo to the thing. Basically a mind controlled resupply drone.
>>
>>33824917
Well this is partially because the power levels of the GP suits are bullshit in comparison to Zeta, because laziness. At least the stuff in 08th MS team and 0080 are about close to the original series power level.

Lady, those are fightin' words. The Kampfer may be old, but she ain't no antique just yet.
>>
>>33825062
The Kampfer is younger than Nina lol
>>
>>33824977
I support this if for no other reason than that extrapolation of the technology over the years would mean that Katz would stay on the god damn ship. No excuse for him to go flying off in the G-Defender when we can have a Newtype remotely fly it in for us. Imagine a Zeta without Katz constantly underfoot. It would be magical.
>>
>>33825062
Yeah, it's only 3 years old, and can probably run around with at least the Hi-zacks. But meh, she's a bitch and anything that isn't her Gundam is shit.
>>
>>33825083
We may also need to get a first aid kit on the Kampfer. You know, for the Burns.
>>
>>33824955
In universe? That would require outright replacement of the legs due to the fact that this all occurs prior to the movable frame. Foot boosters could be added as a relatively quick field modification.

Out of universe?

>>
Question; due to our seeming love of turning Zeon Pilots, how likely are we to recruit Cima?
>>
>>33825083
That's the case for most people. I think the Zaku I was first produced in 0076, so there might be a few of those lying around. But even then it would only apply to seven year-olds. Nina's 21.
>>
>>33825166
Somewhere between Sahalin and Hamburger.
>>
>>33825166
Cima was already about to join the Federation before Kou up and vaporized her, so probably very likely.
>>
>>33825166
Probably quite low. She's not the type to care for UNDERSTANDING, and that's pretty much all we've got.

Seriously, about 90% of the problems we might face in Stardust Memory can be solved by getting Kou to think a little before he acts. That's why we're beating caution into his head now, so he doesn't do something stupid later.

Can we stop the colony drop?
>>
>>33825324
Only if we have a Nu GM Sniper.
>>
>>33825195
But both are dead.

But really the way to recruit Cima requires doing something to prevent her "disabling" of Burning (or at least do something to make the damage less severe so we don't get that spark.), im pretty sure we can't stop Kou from Friendly Fire no matter how hard we try to cool him down.

At least if i remember my facts right, because then Cima is pretty much already "recruited", we just need to make her survive.
>>
>>33825324
Potentially. If we can prevent Gato from destroying the Naval Review the Federation will have the forces to deal with it. And if Kou acts a bit smarter in his fights with Gato there won't be a chance for the atomic bazooka to be fired.
>>
>>33825324
I'm still trying to figure out where this is going. If we had stayed up in space, we could have shot down the HLV capsule before it breached atmo and kept Gato in the mud. Right now we're loosely following canon. My guess? Pretty low at stopping the colony, but we'll probably interrupt the nuking of the majority of the fleet.
>>
>>33824873
Deciding to leave the idiots alone, you instead head towards the Albion's ready room. You can tell that South and most of your team are there waiting for you, and your time spent talking Nina down has kept them waiting long enough.

As you pass down the hallway, you feel a slight vibration as the Albion's Minovsky drive begins to come to life, and you hear a female voice on the PA system announce: “All ground personnel and Anaheim staff, final call to head ashore. All crew, prepare for cast-off in seven minutes, repeat: all crew report to cast-off stations.”

Good, that Gundam-jacking Zeke bastard has had enough of a lead already.

"Welcome back, kiddo," Karen greets you casually from the couch. "Saw your fight earlier, and it reminded me why I'm secretly a little scared of you."

South shakes his head. "Did you really have to beat Uraki that badly?"

"Yes?" you reply. "That was kind of the point, South."

"How's he doing?" the Lieutenant presses.

You shrug and sit between Rossweisse and Haman. "There's a good chance he'll take the lesson and work on improving his skills. But as much as I can lead that horse to water, I sure as hell can't make him drink."

"I see your point," South muses. "Really it's too bad all you young people got dragged into our generation's problems. Teenagers on the battlefield... makes me wonder where it all went wrong."

"Don't think of us as victims, Lieutenant," Haman replies. "We all have our reasons for wanting to be here."

"And what might those be, Miss Noin?" the old lieutenant asks. "Hm, Dominic? Why should all you be the ones to chase down a nuclear-armed superweapon?"

>Why are we here? Is it to protect peace? To protect your loved ones? is it a responsibility? Or is it just because you can?

Of course we don't need to mentioned it is to protect our loved ones from being cut up or being just considered weapons by our own side rather then "Protect from the other side." as one would assume upon hearing that.

>Why are we here?

"Between everyone in the room? This entire thing stinks."

How much do we trust South?

If we trust him like our team, give him the [redacted] version of what we've uncovered so far. Internal memo regarding the disgruntled tech leaking info to the Cima fleet. The fact the designer for our Gundams had to fake his own death. Little tidbits. Another man in on the conspiracy that we can rely on wouldn't hurt.

>>33825435
>Or is it just because you can?
"We've already worked out the older generation can't do it, maybe it's time the world let youngsters take the reign. But really 'All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing'."

"All that's needed for evil to triumph," you sigh, "is for good men and women to do nothing. If fighting to end the last generation's war is what I have to do to make sure others don't get dragged into it, then that's what I need to do."

Surprisingly, it's Rossweisse who backs you up first. "We can fight," she adds quietly, "so we will. For those who cannot."

The sisters, who are sitting on Rossweisse's opposite side, clap their hand on her shoulder, and Haman nods to herself silently. The normally mute young woman seems to have summed up your team's thoughts on the matter quite nicely.

South, meanwhile, chuckles to himself. "You've got a great bunch of pilots there, Captain Joshua. See to it they stick around a while."

Karen leans back in her chair. "I'm not too worried about them."

The Albion lifts off a few minutes later, bound for eastern Africa in pursuit of Gundam GP-02. Your mobile suit teams are as follows:

Lt. South Burning, GM Custom
Lt. JG Monsha, GM Custom
Lt. JG Alpha Bate, GM Custom
Ensign Chap Adel, GM Cannon II
Ensign Chuck Keith, GM Cannon II

O'Hara Team
Commander O'Hara, Lilium
Lt. Marseille, Viola

Haman Karn, Newtype Support System
Ensign Kou Uraki, Gundam GP-01

The date is October 16th, UC 0083, and it's around 09:30. There seems to be some sort of commotion down in the hangar that has some of the alarms aboard the Albion blaring, though it strikes you that there's no emergency. A quick look at your unconcerned Newtype comrades confirms that you're not the only one who doubts that the alarms are anything serious.

On the one hand, you really should go help Karen and Captain Synapse figure out where to go once you actually REACH Africa, but you also find yourself curious about what's going on in the hangar that has people so excited.

Hey, i am interested in learning more about this qeust.

but i have 1 important qeustion.

In gundam, one of the series.

There is a kid 16 year old brown hair.
He's basically a super soldier trained to fight and has no real goals for himself and has an overpowerd gundam

Or are we a dude with white hair, who has goals.
Is extremely bad ass.

And goes 1 to 1, with a generic mobile suit. And manages to force the Gundam away after blowing its arms off. While being in a generic Pleb mobile suit.

I need to know before i waste my time reading.

Send the twins and Blitzen to maps and charts to give their insight. Blitzen is more up-to-date and twins are, well, the twins.

We drag ourselves to the alart.
>>

Yeah thats good too.
>>
>>33826272
That sounds like it's Wing, maybe? It doesn't really matter though, we're neither of those character archetypes. We're more like Zeta-era Amuro. An ace veteran who just happens to be too young to say he's too old for this shit.
>>
>>33826169
Just key our units freq and ask if anyone is down by the hangar.

"The fuck is going on?"
>>
>>33826402
Blitzen has a near photographic memory. She can memorize the charts and redraw them for us so we have our own copy.
>>
>>33826272
First thread has a vote the difficutly level of the quest. Super Soldier with OP GuNDamz was easy mode. A Veteran who is skilled but his suit isn't invulnerable was hard mode and that's the option that won the vote. I suggest reading the first thread in the archives for a better idea if it fits you wants or not since the MC doesn't fall into either extreme you presented but has elements from both.

Wow.
Thanks to you i found the gundam, i always watched as a kid.

it has been 11 years. I think.
I thank you, I thank you so much for this.

It hasn't aged the best, but there's a lot of more stuff you might get, or appreciate, now that you're old enough to see it.

Also, you should pick up Gundam Build Fighters. You'd like it. It's 25 episodes or so with nothing but Gundam fanservice.

"Hey, Audrey?" you ask loudly over the sound of alarms.

"Yes, Commander?"

"Mind heading down to the hangar to see what the big deal is?" you ask her. "And take Haman with you, she looks like she could use a little excitement." Haman, who had until that point been doodling in a notebook she brought onboard, seems to relish the opportunity to actually do something interesting for the first time since the Albion left Torrington. Audrey tosses you a salute and leads the young Newtype down towards the hangar.

Next you turn to the sisters. "Come up to the bridge with me? Might be nice to help Karen and Captain Synapse puzzle out our next move."

"Might as well," Carya replies. Catrina then turns their head to look at Blitzen. "You have the specifications for a Mad Angler-class sub bouncing around in that noggin of yours, yeah?"

Blitzen nods. "Among other things, yes."

Rossweisse looks expectantly at you, and it's clear from her expression that she'd rather not be left alone with nothing to occupy her time.

"Sure," you tell her, much to her relief. "You can come along too, but it's probably going to be just as boring up there."

When you arrive on the Albion's bridge, you quickly spot Karen, Captain Synapse, and Reiko surrounding the chart table. South stands off to one side looking bored as all hell.

"Ah," he exclaims as he spots your group. "I'd have thought you'd be downstairs where all the action's at."

"I've got some of my best looking into it," you reply jokingly. "So what's the situation up here?"

He shrugs. "That sub of ours has to come up for air at some point, so we've been trying to figure out where."

Hey guys I got a great idea! We've seen how shitty Kou was earlier right, so we can send him at Gato to flail around uselessly like Judau at the beginning of ZZ, then when Gato's distracted by the drunken cripple Gundam, we shank him from behind.

He'll never see it coming!
>>
>>33827367
Holy shiet that is... actually brilliant.
>>
>>33827367
Seems a bit callous for Dom though. The chances of not only the suit getting wrecked but Kou getting himself killed would seem pretty high if we were to use him as live bait while he's so green.
>>
>>33827367
I'd rather take him out from range with the Twin Hyper Rifles, though it occurs to me that such an action might detonate the nuke. Normal nuclear weapons aren't subject to sympathetic detonation, but this one might be some I-Field fusion implosion device or some such thing, in which case hitting it with a relativistic beam of Minovsky particles would activate it. We should check with Nina on that. Also whether the warhead can still be detonated without the launcher as a self-destruct mechanism. It would make things so much easier if we could just destroy the bazooka and be done with it.
>>
>>33827367

Or we could let Gato continue to assume Kou can't pilot for shit while secretly powerlevel the fuck out of him, so that when Gato makes the fatal mistake of underestimating his opponent despite them using a Gundam, Kou fucking ruins his shit.
>>
>>33827503
Wait WHY is he on our team again? I demand a Retcon! We should be the only male in our unit! And besides, giving the gundam to the other unit makes it more even.

>>
>>33827552

Jesus, calm your tits. It got mentioned earlier in the thread when we saw the team setups and people had your little panic moment too, except they weren't doing it over being the only male there.

Besides, are you seriously implying Kou has the swagger to put the moves on anything?
>>
>>33826834
You lean up against the wall next to South, and motion to your team to take up their own positions around the chart table. Carya eyes you cannily as she passes, and you ham up the 'cool guy' act for her by crossing your arms and putting one foot against the wall behind you.

"So, what have we got so far?"

"If I were that Zeon skipper," Synapse begins, "I'd do my best to keep undetected. But he has to make landfall somewhere, so it's just a question of his range and what spots within that range would be a good place to unload his cargo."

"His submerged range should take him to somewhere in South Africa, Mozambique, or Madagascar," Blitzen muses, closing her eyes and going over the figures in her head.

Karen shakes her head. "Probably not Madagascar," she says. "That's pretty much the only part of Africa that's solidly in Federation hands."

"And likely not South Africa," Carya adds. "Too populated. So that leaves Mozambique."

Captain Synapse shakes his head at your team's impressive headway as he pulls out a chart of the Mozambique coastline. "I wouldn't take it too far north if I were him," the older man tells you. "Too much shipping and military traffic running up the coast of Madagascar to slip by unnoticed."

"Then the south coast it is," Reiko concludes. "Here. This stretch of coastline is marked with a bunch of colony wreckage. He could have hid in that and passed himself off as a bit of uncharted debris. None of these charts are perfect, after all."

Karen shakes her head and puts her finger to the map. "There'd be no better natural harbor on this stretch than here, Delagoa Bay." You see that around her finger is a series of lagoons separated by low sandy strips of land and sand bars.

"The Mad Angler's draught is shallow enough to make that work," Blitzen confirms.

Rossweisse seems focused intently on the mouth of the Zambezi river: the fourth longest in Africa. Catrina seems intrigued by Rossweisse's selection, but says nothing.
(1/2)
>>
>>33827552
To be frank, an even split of Gundams and GMs in each unit would balance the odds instead of keeping all of our eggs in one basket. Or send one of our snipers to shore up their long range fire support.
>>
>>33827608

Problem with those kinds of jokes is that there's always going to be at least one guy who thinks it's a great idea, and takes it 100% seriously and pushes it at every opportunity.

And then he somehow manages to push it through, due to either samefagging or convincing other players who aren't as well-read on the Gundam sidestories that it's a great idea and that Kou can take care of himself.

Putting an idea out there, no matter how stupid, is always going to mean someone wants to adopt it as their own.

I mean, shit, just look at Scientology if you want proof.
>>
>>33827639
Maybe, but I don't trust Monsha and his lackey friends to actually follow orders properly. We need at least one squad running at maximum efficiency
>>
>>33827636
Seems your vote is going to decide it again, as everyone else around you seems stuck. Carya registers some amusement at your frustration... why can't anyone else make up their damn minds aboard this ship!?
>Delagoa Bay: ideal spot to come ashore
>The Colony Wreckage: great spot to 'lose' a floating metal coffin
>The Zambezi Delta: Rossweisse seems to think it has merit, but why?
>>
>>33827704
Ask Rossweisse why she's interested in the delta.
>>
>>33827664
Bah, if anything, Scientology just preys on dumb people to make money, like Astrology or Homeopathy.

Don't you wanna play Gundam Xabungle Quest? It'll start lighthearted with silly hijinks, then take a turn for the serious partway in, when Kou gets a new MS. The Double Zudah Gundam.
>>
>>33827704
>The Zambezi Delta: Rossweisse seems to think it has merit, but why?
Maybe she knows something?
>>
>>33827704
"What's caught your interested, Ross?"

"Maybe the thieves aren't going to ground. Could they possibly be looking to get back to space?"
>>
>>33827704

An ideal spot is far from an ideal spot purely because that's the first place your enemy will put under surveillance. Gato's not dumb enough to go into a place where there's a huge risk he'll lose the Gundam over it.

The colony wreckage would be a better place but I don't imagine it's going to be easy to transport the GP-02 into space from there on out.

That leaves us with the Zambezi Delta, which I would pick if I were in Gato's shoes purely because it'd be very easy to just follow the river to a point where the Feds have a much less focused security grid and get a pick-up from there. And it's obviously unassuming enough that there'd be minimal to no security, the thought of them taking this route didn't even occur to anyone but Rossweisse.
>>
>>33827704
>Ask Rossweisse about the delta.
>>
>>33827828
Agreed.

Not to mention that the colony wreckage would make navigating the sub a living nightmare.
>>
>>33827704
>>The Zambezi Delta: Rossweisse seems to think it has merit, but why
I guess ask her about this, but she's not the talkative type, so we'd probably not get anything useful out of her other than newtypiness.

Could we send one squad to Delagoa and ours to the Delta?
>>
>>33827636
>Captain Synapse shakes his head at your team's impressive headway

Kek. Once he puts the pieces together he'll spit take.
>>
>>33827828
I like it.
>>
>>33827918
Delagoa Bay is near the border with the South African badlands, all the way at the south of the country. The Zambezi River delta is much farther north.

So it's possible, but highly impractical, and it would take half your forces too far away to be of any use if a fight breaks out.
>>
>>33827966
Maybe, but it's better than letting Monsha drag people on his one-man journey. If he's got something to do that'll distract him.

Gods we really need our own ship.
>>
>>33828018
We had our own ship. We left it back at Torrington when we disembarked. It was only a freighter, but it was a damn ship.
>>

You walk up quietly behind Rossweisse and peer over her shoulder. "What's got you so interested, Ensign?"

"The submarine draws too much water to sail up the river," Blitzen observes.

"I'm not sure that's what she meant," Karen replies with a frown.

She points at the mouth of the Zambezi River. "Salt," she nearly whispers.

It takes you a second to realize what she's saying.

"... of COURSE!" you shout, spinning Rossweisse around and kissing her on the forehead. "Salt! Oh, he's a clever one, but good thing Rossweisse's much cleverer than he is. Ooooh, you're good. Salt!" Rossweisse blushes furiously and resolutely refuses to make eye contact with you. The crew of the Albion, South included, stare at you like you've grown a second head.

"Of course," Carya sighs, smacking herself on the forehead. "The halocline formed by a poorly mixed estuary. That took me way too long to catch."

"The difference in water density messes with sonar systems," Reiko observes. "He could hide his boat there and surface at night."

Karen nods. "Captain Synapse, I recommend we set course for the Zambezi River delta, and start Ensign Uraki off scouting in the GP-01's Core Fighter II."

Synapse nods, satisfied. "Very well, we'll have him sortie right away. Lieutenant, can we work up an ASW package for the Ensign?"

"I'm sure I can think of something," South replies. "Good job, Gundam team," he adds.

"Pasrof," Captain Synapse orders, "set course for the Zambezi River, best speed."

"Carya?" you ask, turning to face her.

"Dom?" she asks quietly in response.

"I'd like you to go check on the situation in the hangar. Bring Audrey and Haman back to the briefing room if they're free, and crack heads together if need be."

"Of course," she replies. "How badly can I crack said heads?"

"No fatalities."

"You never let me have any fun," Catrina teases you.

You take South and the rest of your team back down to the ready room and find that Kou and Nina are already there waiting for you.

"Good to see you're here, Uraki," South tells the young pilot. "We have orders for you."

"Sir? What is the mission going to be?" You get the sense that Uraki is eager to prove his usefulness after the beating you handed him yesterday... too bad it's just going to be patrol duty, you think to yourself.

"Patrol duty, basically," South explains. "We're headed for the mouth of a river in Mozambique, and the Captain wants you in your Core Fighter doing aerial patrol ahead of us."

Uraki seems a little disappointed at the mission, but nods to the Lieutenant anyway. "Understood, sir."

"You'll be looking out for that Zeon submarine," Karen adds. "You have permission to engage if you locate it."

"But prioritize reporting the sub's position and heading," you interject. "If need be we can send naval assets after it, but it's more important to ascertain where it's going and where it's been. Understood?"

"Of course, Commander," Uraki replies, saluting you.

After the Ensign leaves, Nina seems to want to say something to you... but you also get the feeling that things in the hangar have heated up a little.

God I hated the core fighter, not the fighter itself, but the combining aspect with the Gundam felt to Super Robot-y for my tastes. Its one of those aspects that sticks out that 0079 Gundam, while helping pioneer the Real Robot genre, showed that it was still trasitioning from the Super Robot genre.

That and that G-Armour, which was rediculous. the Core Fighter should've remained a completely seperate entity from the Gundam, and just got the Core Booster upgrade, instead.

I've always found the idea somewhat odd. The docking thing is kinda stupid, and the ZZ is the worst of it, but at the same time I love the Bawoo's two-part combo. And the idea of a unit that can eject after damage and escape the combat with combat data is super useful.

>>33829055
I was fine with the G-Armor, but I agree that the Core Fighter was dumb. I mean, a detachable escape pod thing is fine. That makes sense. But the fact that they'd combine before every fight. Just stay docked, there is literally no reason to keep the parts separate. maybe if they could each individual fly like the ZZ or S's components could, but the Gundam's parts are just carried along in the Gunperry. Which has been show to be able to contain the entire Gundam by itself, so there was no benefit to it.

>>
>>33829054
"Can you talk and walk?" you ask Nina. "I feel like there's a fire to put out down in the hangar."

"Is it the Gundam?" she asks nervously.

"I wish."

Nina nods. "Sure. Besides, it's just a personal issue."

"Regarding?" you ask her, rounding the corner and heading down the hall towards the hangar.

"Well," she hesitates. "It's about some of the pilots we picked up in Torrington. Some of them have been giving Kou a hard time, and one in particular makes a lot of the female crew... uncomfortable."

"Monsha?" you ask as you hit the button to open the hatch to the hangar.

"Monsha," she agrees, only for her eyes to widen at the sight that greets you as you step into the hangar.

Audrey is standing between Bate and a visibly, almost palpably angry Haman. Meanwhile, the head mechanic on the Albion is doing her damnedest to keep the sisters from ripping Monsha to shreds with her bare hands.

"If you'd just let me KILL the fucking pig," Carya snarls, "the problem would go away entirely!"

Sneak up on Monsha and just laugh in his ear. "Ha Ha ha." and then whisper in his ear "Did you know, Newtypes can manipulate an Oldtype's brainwaves, I could make you comatose, and no-one would ever be able to realize it was me, or how to get you out of it."

He's an idiot so he's almost certain to believe it. And it should scare him away from our crew, but not Nina's which is fine by me.
>>
>>33829477
Go into full no bullshit mode. We are about to lose a boot in someone's colon and they need to clench their sphincter in anticipation. Dom doesn't throw his authority around much but it seems like a good time to use it.

Roll up a bunch of papers and smack him on the nose. "Bad Monsha, stop creeping out the ladies!"
>>
>>33829623
They actually can, but only if they're really strong. I wonder if Monoeye Gundam is canon for this quest? Because Seirene would trigger the whole team's empathy. Also, I want the Despada and Sisquide.

"Audrey, Noin, Carya; Might I steal you away for a brief moment?"
Then if/when Carya retorts
"Consider it an Order"
we then get a run down of what happened from the three of them. From there we can determine how to resolve the conflict... I suggest a 'friendly' boxing match between Monsha and the twins... that way, any injuries can be passed off as 'over enthusiastic competitiveness'...
>>
>>33829682

On the plus side, he could add sphincter destruction on top of his testicular devistation.

Because he'd just bitch about losing. If he is in a weaker suit, he'd complain about the difficulty, and if CC was in a weaker suit, it'd be of Zeon make and he might work it out.

I'll be happy so long as we get the psychorod technology. All the best parts of incoms and heat whips in one. I think we should give Haman a suit with them.

I meant more proper protocol kind of devastation. We haven't gone after him since his balls were crushed out of respect for South, but he apparantly has a memory problem. We promised we'd rock his world if he fucked with anyone from our unit again and he's been fucking with Kou who's technically part of our unit for the time being. anything he's done to piss of the sisters is just adding more to the the pile.

"Attention on deck!" you bellow at the top of your lungs. Almost everyone in the hangar, regardless of rank, snaps immediately to attention at the sound of your voice. The notable exceptions are Haman, who continues to glare icily at Bate, C.C., who eyes you with some curiosity, and Monsha, who glares defiantly in your direction.

"Do you have some sort of learning disability, Monsha?" you ask. "Some kind of battle-induced hearing loss?" you ask as you walk towards him.

"No," he replies.

"No, WHAT?" you hiss, allowing your eyes to widen dangerously.

"No, sir," he corrects himself.

"Mora, wasn't it? What happened?"

"Sir," the dusky, rather built woman replies with a salute. "A disagreement between myself and Lieutenant Monsha over his conduct towards my female subordinates. I struck him. His team stepped in to defend him. It seemed like things were about to simmer down again, but then he..."

"The fucker smacked Haman's ass on his way out," Audrey finishes. "Lieutenant Marseille saw it happen and, well, you can figure out the rest from there, sir."

"And with every word," you mutter with a scowl, "I just get more and more sick of you and your shit."

You take a few steps further towards Monsha, past him, and stop at a comm panel. Quickly finding the button for the ready room and the bridge.

"Lieutenant Burning, report to me in the hangar immediately. That's an order." You hate to pull rank like this on an old friend, but this shit needs to stop. Today.

South arrives in moments, clearly realizing what must be happening. He looks first at Monsha, then to you.

"What do you want to do, sir?" he asks, resignation clearly etched into his features. He looks more tired than you've ever seen him.

To be fair this isn't the first time it's happened, in less than a day, he sexually harassed 1 pilot, got into an argument about harrassment with another, and then harrassed a *third*. >>33830180
You take a few moments for some deep breaths. As desperately as you'd like to make good on your threat to break off Monsha's fingers and force-feed them to him, it's still ultimately South's responsibility. The 4th MS isn't within your regular chain of command on this operation, and so any punishment you could inflict would be outside the bounds of military law.

"I want your team put on report, South," you tell your old friend, "but I trust you to handle it from there. Either way, this shit stops today. Understood?"

Burning salutes you. "Of course, Commander O'Hara," he replies through gritted teeth. "Monsha, THANK the young master for letting you live this time, and apologize to the young lady you accosted."

Monsha glares at you. "Thank you, sir," he tells you, though he makes no attempt to hide his disdain. "A thousand pardons, MADAM," he adds as he passes Haman, who Audrey has to restrain before she smacks him.

South, however, backhands the fuck out of his junior officer in Haman's place.

"Pathetic," he mutters. "Absolutely unbecoming of an officer. I'll be reporting you to JAG this time, Monsha. Let them decide whether to court-martial you."

"Oh, and South?" you ask, suddenly inspired.

"Yes, sir?"

"Have Monsha clean off the last of the paint from Ensign Uraki's core fighter. I think his toothbrush should be sufficient."

South grins at you. "That sounds like a job he can pull off without becoming an embarrassment to himself and the rest of us. It's a fine idea."

Turning back towards your team, it seems some of the anger has subsided, but far from all.

The rest of the 4th files out after South and Monsha, leaving just your team and the Albion's repairs crew. Calmly, you walk across the hangar towards a storage shelf.

"Dominic?" Carya asks you as the sisters begin to calm down and separate again. "What are you doing?"

You retrieve a can of paint and open it. "Nothing important," you reply, walking past the Core Fighter and pretending to trip.

"Ooops!" you shout dramatically as you throw a gallon of green paint onto the Core Fighter's wing. "How clumsy of me! I sure hope that doesn't make more work for Monsha!"

Haman snickers to herself a little, and Audrey finally seems to relax. Several of the female technicians are laughing to themselves as well.

"Well, I'm glad that's over," Mora admits. "You think it's done for good this time?"

"Probably," you reply, putting your arm around Haman's shoulders. "I trust Burning to handle it. He's a good man, it's just he's been saddled with a team that's both talented in the cockpit and a pain in the ass the rest of the time."

"How'd a guy like that Lieutenant even get where he is now?" Audrey wonders aloud.

"Incompetence and complacency," Catrina replies caustically. "He's got some talents the Federation needs, who cares if he breaks all the rules of military decorum before lunch?"

"Come on," you tell your team. "Let's head back to our quarters and rest up... and for the love of God, please stay away from the 4th for the rest of the trip?"

Haman and the sisters look at you tensely. "I don't blame you for standing up for yourselves, but when there are a bunch of angry Newtypes all in one place..." you trail off.

"We get violent," Haman finishes a bit sheepishly. "I was wondering why we all seemed to escalate that quickly... it's unusual for me to lose my temper."

"Then it seems like things are settled."

>>

Technically, Article 89 of the USUCMJ doesn't care about chain of command. It's 'a' superior officer, and 'striking' can be any form of physical insult including groping.

Conduct unbecoming is definitely something he's guilty of at this point: drunkenness, assaulting junior officers and NCOs, and assaulting a civilian are all major no-nos in their own right.

In terms of confinement to quarters, he was let out this morning to resume his duties.

You shrug. "How would you ladies like to join me for some afternoon exercises? Something calming, like meditation or something like that. Gets you in the right frame of mind, and might just help Haman and Rossweisse expand their sensing abilities," you offer.

"Sounds good to me," Haman sighs. "I could use something relaxing."

Carya is quick to agree. "We might try it with the two of us combined. It might help us keep our emotions in check when we're like that."

With your afternoon activities scheduled, you head up to the ready room where there is a television screen set up. Nina is sitting in front of it.

"Kou's going to launch in a few minutes. You want to watch his mission?" she asks.

"Sure," you agree. "Why not?"

Fifteen minutes later you're bored out of your damn mind. Rossweisse has fallen asleep with her head in your lap and some of Haman's spilled popcorn in her hair, and Haman herself is asleep on your shoulder. The twins are reading a magazine of some sort: only Nina and Audrey seem at all interested in the feed from Kou's cockpit as he rattles off some data at the Albion's operators.

"So," you venture, "how much of a beating can the GP-02 take? There any risk of accidentally detonating the nuke?"

"Nope," Nina replies succinctly. "And there's no self-detonation system. And even if there were, I doubt the pilot would waste the nuke... that's the whole point, right?"

"Where do you think he'll strike?"

"Or she," Nina teases. "Probably Dakar, if I had to guess."

"Dakar? Why not space?"

"Maybe the Naval Review," she concedes. "Flashy target, but big payoff if you can manage it."

Well thank fuck for that. Okay then, first priority is destroying that shield. The bazooka itself is split into two parts, with one of them stored on the back and the other on the shield. Destroy the shield, Gato can't fire. Also, even if the barrel itself survives, he needs the cooling and radiation-blocking systems in the shield to survive firing the nuke from anything shorter than maximum engagement range. So we blast that shield apart.

We could always ask Nina what drives her to design gundams if we wanted to get to know her or something (since I haven't watched 0083, Z, ZZ or Victory I have no idea why she's queen bitch of the universe)

"So, had any luck tracking down the supposed leak?"

The shield is designed to withstand the force of the nuke in case it detonates too close to the machine and the pilot can't get out of dodge in time. I'm sorry to say that destroying the shield would probably be a poor tactical decision when you could spend that time blowing the cockpit out or taking out the actual weapons.
>>
>>33832369
Why destroy it when we can join 'em after everything goes to hell?

Cima will require pilots.

Dominic Cuddles Time.
>>

Nope, the shield isn't much stronger than a conventional MS shield when it comes to direct weapons fire. It's mostly meant for absorbing the incidental effects of the nuclear explosion rather than than the actual force of the blast. And we have ZZ-level firepower. I think we can destroy it.
>>
>>33832598
The thing is, I don't think the shield actually has Anti-Beam Coating, meaning that beam weaponry will pretty much chew through it. It's designed to survive nuclear blasts, not particle weapons.

It's like how a bulletproof vest does shit all against swords.

You settle into the couch a little more, causing Rossweisse to stir briefly before drifting off.

"Dakar, Jaburo, or the Naval Review..." you muse.

"Jaburo?" Nina asks.

You shrug with the shoulder that isn't currently occupied by Haman's head. "The Zekes seem to have an obsession with it."

"Fair enough," Nina replies. "You've read that the Delaz and Cima fleets may be involved, right?"

"Yeah," you admit, "and off the record? Thanks for leaving your office door unlocked for us."

"So you noticed, huh?" she chuckles. "I hope you found something useful."

You nod. "I have to wonder what's really going on, and how much of it we can see?"

Nina shrugs. "I don't know. All we can do is deal with what we can see, I suppose."

On the screen Uraki flips a few switches and puts his Core Fighter into a bank to come back to the Albion off its first patrol. It's the most interesting thing you've seen him do for a good while.

"So," you press, "are you and Uraki..."

Carya raises the sisters' head and casts a sidelong glance at Nina. It seems you've piqued her curiosity.

"That guy? He's dense as a brick," Nina admits, blushing slightly. "But he has his own sort of boyish charm, you know?"

"Oh, I can tell you all about 'boyish charm'," Carya teases.

"I wish you wouldn't," you moan to yourself.

GODAMMIT NINA, STOP BEING NOT-CRAZY!
>>
>>33832741
No, remember, we're in the first half of Stardust Memory. She doesn't get crazy until they go to space and we switch directors. For now she's pretty cool, actually.

And I've officially run out of steam... the sprint to the end of my dissertation today took it out of me.

Thanks for playing, and look forward to tomorrow: for tomorrow, things escalate yet again, and Zeon officially declares war.

Archive goes up in a few minutes, and feel free to talk strategy for a while. I may not pass out right away, so you might even get me to answer a few questions.
>>
>>33832799
That's fine. See you tomorrow, Hearts. Get some rest, you've earned it.
>>
>>33832799
good luck on your dissertation!

Thanks for running. It's a shame I don't know more about this particular timeline, but I enjoy the quest all the same.

Five quid on Gato not being the pilot.
>>
>>33832966
Could be. We've altered the timeline enough. Wait, can't we just ask Kou? He talked with the pilot during the fight in canon, if that happened here we'd at least have a hint.

It's Mullet Char.

Huh? Full Frontal hasn't been born yet. He's a clone. Or something like that, I don't know. It's complicated.

I'd take that action.

Passing out now.

Not when we can have those glorious golden locks it's not.

Didn't the Nina-go-crazy thing was a Ryosuke Takahashi tweeest! because he got shoved in as director?

>>33833678
Yes. That was what I was referring to.
