Welcome to Academy City. The time is night, the weather is electric, and the date is August 29.

You are Kyril Torikov, ‘Level 2’ Telekinetic Child Error, and you were leaving. The train that you caught was bound for freedom. After all, where else could you got but out? You don’t think whoever thought themselves your master was going to forgive breaking out of jail. If one Level 4 from ITEM was all they were going to throw at you then this was way too easy. Of course Sparky was also in your way but you had a feeling it wasn’t about you leaving. She had stopped your train easily enough, lashing out with a lance of lightning that knocked the engine out. It took less than a minute for the train to come to a halt, her electromagnetism slowing down the train. Now she was walking towards you. Asuka and Last Order were still unconscious. You didn’t fancy these odds. As good as it felt to be able to tango with a Level 4 Sparky was exponentially more powerful than Kinuhata.

She wasn’t happy to see you. The feeling was mutual. You, because she had ran a high voltage electric current through you, and her, well, you were going to find out. She was walking towards you.

“Aniki,” her voice was even.

“Hey,” you replied.

Your face was a mask of cool, your tone the sound of nonchalance.

“You know why I’m here,” she continued.

“Honestly? I don’t,” you answered.

You did have a suspicion though.

“You’re not taking her away Aniki.”

As you suspected, it was about Last Order.

“Think about what you’re doing,” she shouted, “You told me to keep her safe and now you’re running away. I get that but you’re not taking her with you.”

A city that thinks nothing of our lives and treats us like Lab Rats? That let the Level 6 Shift program run, even when they were losing their facilities left and right? I have to protect my sister, but it can't be done in this place. They used her to threaten me into working for them, to do their dirty work, how long til they'd act on that? I have to get her out of this place."

In the distance you could hear the dull rotation of helicopter blades. You still took the time to argue with Sparky, if only to give the lads more time to clamber out of the train and get a head start.

“It’s not safe for her here, not in this city,” you stated, “When they come for her they’ll stop at nothing. This way, at least she can have a normal life.”

“A normal life?” she asked, “A normal life on the run with you?”

“She’s a target anyway, she’ll be safer with me,” you argued, “Besides she’s my responsibility and you have more than one sister to worry about.”

The helicopter arrived, spotlight glaring angrily down on the two of you. Its downwash kicked up hair, dirt and skirt. The pilot was flying low. With a growl Sparky turned to it.

“You’re in our way,” her shout overpowered the rotors.

Electricity crackled, sparking from her forehead and limbs as she waved her arms. The poor aircraft groaned but was inevitably brought down with a soft crash. Sparky turned back to you, backlit by the sputtering spotlight.

“Look me in the eye and tell me she’ll be safer with you,” she said.

It wouldn’t be the last helicopter to come after you. Sparky had a point though, demonstrating once again that a Level 5 like her was not to be trifled with.

“If you can’t do that then leave her with me,” she continued, “If you won’t then I’m going to take her back.”

Sparks once again danced about her crown. You didn’t have time to argue like this, not if you wanted to keep running. Fighting her, a Level 5, was a foregone conclusion.

You weren’t going to play her game. You couldn’t, you couldn’t afford to. If you surrendered Last Order then she was going to die, or worse. If you fought, then you were probably going to join her. That was why you looked her right in the eye.

“I will keep her safe,” you said.

Her glare was heated but you weren’t going to go back on this.

“You know this city has another side. They used her to try and get to me. She’s leverage. That’s why I have to protect her, to protect them, even if it kills me,” you continued.

She softened a bit and you pounced.

“Besides I already fought a Level 4 tonight. What’s one more level anyway?”

She turned around with a huff.

“Four helicopters, twelve ACPs and I don’t even know how many guns and suits, and that’s only for tonight,” she finally said.

That was a lot of hardware.

“Well?” she asked, “What are you waiting for? Go.”

You didn’t need to be told that twice.

“GO! Baka aniki,” she shouted.

You turned and ran, catching up with the lads as a beam lanced out in to the dark night. It was followed by a fiery blossom. That was one helicopter out but there were plenty more where that came from. It was probably the most problematic thing you would have to deal with. As long as they were in the air you couldn’t outrun them, you couldn’t escape them. She raised the possibility of success from fucking impossible to near impossible.

But it was still not enough.

There was still a lot of ground to cover and the forest that the railroad tracks led into wasn’t going to make it easy. Nunotaba was waiting. She was waiting with new identities, a new cover but most importantly, a new life. Travelling as a group was putting all your eggs in one basket but if you split up, there was going to be no way to know how the others were doing. You couldn’t risk electronic communication.

To be quite honest you’ve never expected to find a forest here. Then again you’ve never really known what lay outside the walls of the city. It was rumoured that there was some flat, farmland up beyond the north-east exit. You wouldn’t know.

“They’re here,” Sagara whispered.

Even with Tadakuni’s Stealth Step, you were pushing the edge of stealth. There was more than one method to track a man anyway. It didn’t help that Asuka and Last Order were still unconscious. You regret the former though. Asuka would have been really helpful should the fighting start. There was no helping it for the moment as you held her in your arms, Last Order secure in Sagara’s. It was like your own personal horror movie. This meant that you should never split up. It was better to pool resources now, better to hang together than hang separately.

Then gunfire lit up the tree line. The wooden bark exploded, showering you in bits of wood as the group had to slow to evade the gun fire. Cover didn’t mean much when the bullet felled a tree in front of you. Still you guys hoof it, running and over and around obstacles. Your Ability and skill served you well here. It was Sagara and Kyousuke who fell behind. The former was encumbered. The latter was out of shape. Only Tadakuni managed to keep up with you but you had an inkling he was holding back.

You stopped for a step, just to grab LO from Sagara’s hand, letting him drag Kyousuke up with him. Tadakuni caught your sister and with a nod, he kept moving forward as you. While Asuka was heavy in your arms now that you weren’t using your Ability to help hold her, you focused on something else. Not all of the fallen trees and bits of wood were too heavy for you to lift. They certainly weren’t harder to throw a good distance anyway. You had aimed for where the muzzle flashes had come from, hoping to hit one of them. Maybe you didn’t throw them hard enough or maybe they say it coming. Your improvised projectiles didn’t get far, bursting into a shower of splinters. They were shredded by gun fire, gun fire that was closing in on you.

Sagara and Kyousuke had just moved past you and now it was time to go. Shifting Asuka a bit, you re-applied your power and go to running again. That delay had cost you no small amount of distance. You took off again. Your legs were starting to burn but you didn’t care. At least your arms hadn’t numbed too much. Dirt and leaves were kicked up by the ever closing gun fire.

Eventually it landed. It struck you in the leg, probably somewhere along your right calf. With a little fanfare you stumbled and finally fell forward with Asuka in your arms. The hole in your leg turned that burning sensation in to a searing ball of pain. It was like something was eating away at it. Sagara turned around to help you up, but you knew this was a mistake. If you didn’t stop to return fire, if only you kept running, you wouldn’t have given them the opportunity. You couldn’t let him end here with you if you could help it.

... They barely hit us, and we were upright. I don't think we're going to float her to him slowly or make her dance around like a marionette.

Floating her to Sagara means we can focus physically on standing up and he doesn't have to run back for us.

Hell, we could even float her along at just-above-the-ground level, if we wanted to.

You met him halfway with Asuka using your Ability. As you were now, you could forget running, let alone standing. Your foot was hanging on by a thread. It was amazing that you were still conscious despite the blood pooling about you. Your heart was hammering in your chest. It wasn’t helping. That was why you gave Asuka over to him.

“Take her,” you told him, “Take her and run.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll catch up,” you replied, “What are you waiting for? They got me because I stopped. Go.”

He didn’t need much encouragement, giving you a nod as he took off once more. The gun fire drew close but it wasn’t aimed at you. Still, you weren’t going to give these bastards the satisfaction. You were going to go out fighting. Crawling as quickly as you could, you braced yourself against the tree. You lost feeling in right leg and everything felt so heavy. It was like swimming in syrup. Still, you managed to liberate your hand gun and held it close, waiting.

It felt like an eternity, just listening to your heart beat grow slower, your sight growing dimmer. But you forced yourself to remain unconscious until you felt footfalls. Your sight was blurred at this point but you could tell it wasn’t a friend. A powered suit whose front was decorated with a white skull appeared before you. How fitting that it was an image of death, you thought. You raised your gun. It was time.

The image of the boy was transmitted back to your camera. His wound was severe. He was already dead. He just didn’t know it yet. You watched dispassionately as he emptied his handgun towards the camera in defiance. He thrashed about, resisted to the very end. It was the death throes of a rabid dog. You had them carry him back. If it were anywhere else but Academy City, your city, he wouldn’t make it. You were going to make sure he did. While you had made promises with his mother that he would be alive and unspoiled, that was before she became the Idol of Lamashtu.

To be fair, even you were surprised that she had survived Anubis. Now she was coming back. Hopefully you could fix this before she returned with a vengeance. It was a minor setback all told but it was an annoyance all the same. Right now you were going to have her killed, again. It would slow her down, buy you time. It was all that you could do to get your plans back on track again. After all, her son still had his uses. He was going to wish he was dead when you were done with him. That and you had to manage the Imagine Breaker a bit better. They had ties after all. This was going to be complicated, you just knew. That was alright though. You could do complicated.

August 29, 20XX, 22:42:05 local time, an entry was entered in to the database.

That's just the setting anon, Bored did the best he could.

The series has been going on for 10 years now, and AC has literally only gotten stronger while all the other factions have gotten weaker and had their members depowered and crippled. All three of the protagonists are no closer to solving the main issues of the series than they ever were.

We're alone in the fridge. I don't think Kakine is ballsy enough to attack Accel if he never got braindamaged.

>>It was a minor setback all told but it was an annoyance all the same.
>This one kinda goes into some shady/gray areas, but "all told" should be flanked by commas, and "but" should be preceded by a comma. Personally, I use hyphens and parentheses to make sure I avoid those kinds of 'conflicts', but it's not much of a problem to people who aren't consistently better at English than their instructors.

>>That and you had to manage the Imagine Breaker a bit better.
>Should have a comma after "That," but otherwise that's fine.

>>They had ties after all.
>Should have a comma after 'ties' and before 'after all'.

>>That was alright though.
>Should have a comma after 'alright' and before 'though'; alternatively, you could merge it with the following sentence to make something like:
>"That was alright, though- you could do complicated."

Your phrasing's not the same that I would use, but I seem to have something odd about my writing style, and I like seeing quirks, so I won't even pretend that I don't like the fact that it's noticeable.

I'd question your tense usage, but, again, that's almost certainly because of the differences in our respective voices.

>>
>>33826633
Railroaded is a harsh phrase, but this whole thing does rather reek of massively overinflated consequences and Bored wishing to end the quest.

He didn't even ask for rolls when Kyril tried to use his power to delay the attackers, which to me sort of shows that he was already planning for this to be unwinnable.

Best of 3d20 is a shit system anyway. Anybody who understands probability can see that it results in wildly fluctuating competence and fucking stupid twists.
>>
In all reality, none of what happened after we got put in jail should count as part of the quest, since the vote to break out was samefagged to all hell. And I'm sure Bored doesn't want it to end like this.
>>
>>33826774

I stand by the fact that escaping was always the bad option. It's 'Academy City Quest' after all, if it's not in AC then it's not really the same quest.

>>33826774
The last part does feel somewhat forced, I mean heck, Bored said that if we fought Misaka we'd have lost an arm, and that kinda shows that there was never any real chance of escape, because the result was predetermined.
>>
>>33826774
>planning for this to be unwinnable.

Anybody with a basic understanding of AC, common sense, and Even the slightest of Meta knew we was not going to win this at all.

Period.
>>
>>33826774
We ended up in a situation where we were vastly outgunned. No amount of narrative bullshit or rolls would allow us to win against a powered suit with just a hand gun, TK, and severe bloodloss.
>>
>>33826846
Board could say Misaka would chop our arm off because we have no means of preventing her from doing that.

The time is morning, the weather is unpleasant, and the date is August 29.

You are Suzushina Yuriko, and you just woke up in Accelerator’s bathroom. Again. It had only been a few days and you didn’t want this to become a habit. The Accelerator, the freakish, overpowered, bloodthirsty monster that he was, hadn’t tried chasing you out. No, he went out as he usually did, ignoring your presence as you followed him. He would find some manner of thug, or thugs would find him, and then he would ‘experiment’ on them. You weren’t sure why he was doing such things, or what he expected out of them. The Accelerator was not something you questioned. It was something you hid behind. Thus you kept your mouth shut.

Breakfast, as usual, was a simple affair. All you needed was a rice cooker and a stove. Ingredients didn’t spoil if you used them within the day. It had taken him two days to figure that out. He had two days of instant noodles and black coffee before he realised you woke up before he did. You didn’t make breakfast for him on those days. It was almost funny, to watch him be so utterly confused, bamboozled by the fact that you cooked. Not only did you cook, you often cooked too much. That was where he came in. It was like house-breaking a kitty to be honest. You thought he’d be harder to condition.

Now that you had established some kind of rapport with him, you had to proceed with the next phase of your plan. That would be to get him in to a nicer place to live. Your apartment, while small, was not trashed, like his, and had a working refrigerator. The only problem was you didn’t know how to break it to him.

If anything you were a straightforward person. You were tired of being the conniving bitch. It wasn’t who you were. You didn’t mind having to stick with him but you needed a change of clothes. While you were at it, you wanted a hot bath, the strength to not need the Accelerator’s protection, world peace and that boy you admired to notice you. Certainly it wasn’t impossible right? Your heart sank. Yeah it was probably too much to ask. Still it was worth asking. If you didn’t then you may never know.

“Hey.”

Smooth, Yuriko, real smooth.

“Huh?”

He turned around as he vocalised the question mark. It was that same nasally, “what are you bothering me for trash?” kind of sound.

“Come over to my place.”

There. You said it. You couldn’t take it back now.

“Huh?” he reiterated.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

“Your place is trashed,” you continued fearfully, “Come to my place.”

He gave it a thought before turning and continuing on his way.

“Whatever.”

That day, you didn’t find any trouble on the streets. It only reinforced your desire to return to your apartment. You wanted to go home. Mr. Apathy only took the usual route. He didn’t mix it up too much. Maybe that was why no one was attacking him. He had become predictable. He was easy to avoid. Accelerator didn’t seem to care. Today he picked up another dozen or so cans of black coffee. However, instead of just heading home he stood there. You almost wondered what he was thinking, circling around until your faces met.

“Well?” he growled, “Does it look like I know where the fuck you live?”

Ah, so that was that. Tonight, you brought the Accelerator home with you.

Maybe it’s the atmosphere, the familiarity of it all, that got you so relaxed. You wouldn’t otherwise have teased him like so,

“So, would you like dinner, a bath, or maybe, me?”

He looked at you as if you went insane. Your felt the blood rushing to your face as you quickly darted in to the toilet, grabbing a spare blanket, and running out to throw it over him.

“Forget what I said,” you shouted.

The thrown bundle of cloth bounced off him and unfurled itself back on top of you.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh,” you yelled in surprise.

You fell backwards on your arse. Escaping the clutches of the damnable blanket was a struggle. The Accelerator then seemingly pulled it off you one handed. You think he was laughing at you. It was hard to tell with that apathetic mask he hid behind most of the time. Slinging the blanket over his shoulder, he took off his shoes and walked inside. You sat there, stunned, among other emotions, in the hallway, before you had the grace to pick yourself up again.

Dinner was a quiet affair. The ingredients that you had stocked several days ago were still good. You made some niku jaga. Apparently guys liked niku jaga, but it wasn’t intentional. You just didn’t have other ingredients is all. The Accelerator didn’t comment or anything. He just ate in silence, even when you told him about the shower and the couch, and the TV. However, now that you were in your apartment, you could finally do things that you couldn’t before. Something like,

You were watching a web stream in the bath. The show was related to the fujoshi scene. While you didn’t like to think yourself a rotten girl, you possessed all three volumes of the Fowl Gods series. Your friends had recommended the series. You just didn’t think you’d like it, to ‘that’ extent anyway. There was a reason you installed a bookshelf in your toilet.

“So, so, what’s this news we have from Heart-Under-Blade-sensei?” one of the hosts asked.

“As you know, Heart-Under-Blade-sensei has declared her trilogy over and that she was moving on to other things,” another explained, “So it was to our surprise when she announced the following this morning.”

“No, it couldn’t be,” the first host feigned disbelief.

“Yes, that’s right. Fowl Gods is getting an anime adaptation!”

There were cheers all around. You tried to keep it down since you had a guest but you couldn’t help yourself really.

“We have a trailer too,” and the trailer played.

While you didn’t watch that many anime, you think they could have gotten a better studio. You’ve never heard of Natural High before. After all, you wanted the story to be done justice. It had to be animated properly, especially when-

There was a knock on the door. The silhouette was none other than your guest’s.

“Oi you done?”

Way to kill the mood asshole. You had half a mind to go out there and smack his gob. The other half just sighed and grabbed a towel.

He was sitting on the throne, volume one of Fowl Gods in hand when you stepped out. He turned to you, completely disinterested in your body. His face was confused as he uttered the following non-sequitur.

“I was beaten by a faggot?”

“What?”

It was a flat “what”, the kind that demonstrated a lack of comprehension. That was why he repeated the question.

“I was beaten by a faggot.”

This time it wasn’t a question. You understood why he’d be confused. In his hands was the first volume of Fowl Gods. It wasn’t a later reprinted edition with the disclaimer, “All resemblances, fictional or otherwise, is pure coincidence,” on it. Heart-Under-Blade-sensei had added the disclaimer due to the people who she had drawn inspiration complaining. Or that was what the magazines, blogs and news sites reported. There was no way those two people existed for real. That one of them was someone who beat the Accelerator was just ludicrous. Your hand reached out slowly for his shoulder as you leaned forward.

Then you let out the most derisive chortle that you could. That was rich. Who knew the Accelerator had a twisted sense of humour?

“Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.”

Oh God you couldn’t breathe. You had to get out before you lose your towel and your modesty. Laughing was something you hadn’t done in a long time. It was almost painful as you left him sulking mightily on the throne. You didn’t stop laughing as you changed. Tears streaked your face as you continued, hugging your comforter. You don’t know when, but you definitely fell asleep.

You awoke to a bright new day. It was sunny, and warm. You moved out of the bedroom. The couch sat a folded blanket. Accelerator was nowhere to be seen, even as you finished breakfast. Where was he? Worriedly, you wandered your small apartment. He was gone. Where’d he go?

Is the crazy power leveling going to slow down as the plot picks up? It was kind of jarring going from high level 3 to mid level 4 all of a sudden. I understand the whole Innocentius thing happened, but still.

I rather liked the format of this quest, where it took us a long time to get from level 2 to just barely level 3.

It's your quest though, i'll probably still enjoy it either way.

(Posting for Bored, http://pastebin.com/atq6jxEi)

You checked the bathroom again. He wasn’t in there. You checked your closet. He wasn’t in there either. Where was he? The question ran through your mind as you did another tour of your apartment. You sat down on your couch. What if he left? You didn’t want to think about it. What if he didn’t come back? That was even worse to contemplate. Your gaze fell on the door that led outside. Outside, you didn’t want to go outside, not if you had to suffer that kind of abuse again.

No. Not outside.

You’re not going outside.

Not again.

Not without protection.

Not without him.

No, you had to remain calm. He’ll be back.

Keep telling yourself that. It’ll be alright. You still had friends. You still had people you could rely on right? Wrong.

Wrong.

WRONG.

You had no one. You only had him. Because he was the biggest. Because he was the baddest. Because he was the monster no one else dared approach. You wanted him. You needed him.

Please, come back.

You sat there. You sat in your apartment. Curled up, knees tucked, holding yourself together. The sun was setting.

“He’ll be back,” you muttered, “He’ll be back."

If you repeated enough he’ll come back. Right?

The food had gone cold.

There was a knock on the door. Your head snapped towards it. There was another knock. You dared not get it. It was him. It had to be him. But you didn’t want to get your hopes up. You didn’t want to destroy the illusion. With a click, the door flew open.

He was back.

Interlude end. It’s all I have for tonight chaps.
