Character Sheet: http://pastebin.com/rNg3Yw8m (picture included)

You’re not ready to go home just yet. In fact, now that you’re feeling back to normal (kind of) going home is the last thing you feel like doing. You’re too wired to sit in a room and wait for the sun to come up.

But where else can you go? You don’t want to go anywhere you might run into people. You’d rather be able to be yourself, and in a city of like, what, two million people, that’s kind of a tall order. You look around for a solution.

In the distant darkness, you see the hazy silhouette of San Bruno Mountain, peppered here and there by blinking red radio towers. Your shadow sight doesn’t hold up so well when it comes to long distances, but you get a feeling that’s where you should go.

Maybe, if you can get there in time, you can head off the sun before it rises. You don’t know why the idea is so appealing. Maybe its something about seeing the birth of a new day in action? Or maybe it’s just that you like the idea of mountains. Your name means mountains, after all. They’re places where you can be higher than everybody else. That’s got to count for something.

Destination in mind, you zip up your jacket and prepare to take off. But then you get a little guilty about the fact that nobody knows where you are.
>>
>>33780196

Nobody even knows you’re gone. Because your plans maybe don’t encompass getting home before anybody wakes up, you decide to play it safe and shoot Rowan a text, saying you went out to run around because insomnia or whatever.

Anyway, information sent out, you pocket your phone and take off for real. You run fast. You run through the park, and you run through a golf course. You run past soccer fields. You book it across empty roads, and into quaint, colorful little homes that seem dark and brooding in the twilight.

You begin running uphill, beside lines of precise, cookie cutter homes that look like they were built in the eighties. You run the length of the long zig zags that bite their way up the slope, finding nothing and no one in your path.

You chance a glance back at the city. It looks collected and small, all stuffed at the end of the San Fransisco peninsula. Hundreds of thousands of people, all sleeping. The whole scene glows in the darkness.

You turn your attention back to where you’re going: up. Your breathing is furious but even, and your muscles burn with exertion. You can run forever. Cold air whips against your face. It doesn’t make you uncomfortable – actually, it’s anything but. It feels great.

And then, after a stretch of measureless time, the picturesque, quiet little neighborhoods run out, and you’re confronted with a wall of trees and wild brush.
>>
>>33780204

Since this place is probably a state park or something, there’s bound to be a trailhead somewhere, but you don’t have time for trails. You’re a trail blazer.

You hop off the road and continue your journey off road, jumping bushes and dodging your way past trees, all while enshrouded in the protective cover of darkness. The trees give way to plains of grass and sparse brush, and you have an unhindered view of the sky and the tops of hills. You always know where you’re going, because you’re going to the top. You just need to keep running up the slope.

But running uphill over wild country isn’t easy, even for you. The ground is sharp and meddlesome even to your claws – you have to watch carefully where you tread, and even then you wind up getting all kinds of scratches up and down your feet. You can’t ever seem to fill your lungs enough, and you find yourself gasping for breath, even as you force yourself to keep moving. You wish you didn’t have your jacket on you, right now – you slow down long enough to tie it about your waist before picking up speed again.

Suddenly, you encounter a trail snaking its way up through the rising foothills. You have no idea where it begins, but you’re for sure going to find out where it ends. You merge your course with the path and speed onward.

The trail undulates up and down over the mountain. As soon as you get to the top of one ridge though, another rises before you, mocking your attempt to conquer it.
>>
>>33780228

You grit your teeth and keep running. It can’t fight you forever.

An indeterminate amount of time later, your speed has slowed to a crawl, and sweat drips from your brow and stings when it gets in your eyes. You’re thirsty as all get out. Maybe running up a mountain in the middle of the night barefoot without so much as a water bottle wasn’t the greatest idea.

But whatever. You’re full of not so great ideas. That’s like, what makes you unique, probably.

Then you reach the top of one slope, and see a radio tower blinking its red lights maybe a hundred yards away. It’s spire stretches into the sky high almost forever, and the lights are so dazzling to you after you’ve spent so much time in the dark that you have to keep your focus on the ground. That’s when you realize there’s no more slopes or ridges left to look up to. Only sky remains.

You’re at the top. A cold wind whips hard at you, tossing your hair into your eyes.

You can’t stop running, so instead you keel off to the side of the path and collapse into the tall grass. You lie there for a while, stunned by the sheer force of exhaustion you’ve been ignoring for who knows how long.

You feel dazed for some time. You don’t know why you felt like you needed to run up to the top of a mountain on such short notice, but now that you have, you definitely feel a sense of accomplished meaningfulness. You did something worthwhile. (+4 Sanity: 85/100) (-15 Stress: 0/100)

You sit up, and take stock of your surroundings. The ocean stretches out forever on the horizon, while San Fransisco glows hazily far away, surrounded almost all about by dark expanses of water. You try to make out where you live. Of course you can’t, but you’re surprised at how far you came. You must’ve gone five or six miles at least.

Being far away makes you feel far away. You’re outside of your life, right now. Demons, angels, the regular crush of life. It doesn’t mean anything in this moment. Right now, it’s just you and nature, and you’ve just made nature your bitch.

The thought fills you with an overwhelming sense of pride. “Eat it, nature!” you scream into the night air, if only for no other reason than nobody can hear you. If you had a point to prove, you sure as hell proved it.

Seeing nothing else to do, really, you sit up, cross your legs, and watch the city. Then when you get bored of that, you fall backward and watch the sky. You can see a couple stars, but there’s supposed to be like, a few more probably. Light pollution and all that probably is making the view less cool than it should be, but it’s still pretty neat.
>>
>>33780837
When your heart rate returns to regular levels, you start to feel the cold again.

And you also feel something else. A kind of invisible thrum, like when you’re standing under power lines. Except this is less about electricity and more about… something else. Something you felt back in Muir Woods.

You push to your feet and look around you. You most certainly don’t see anything besides normal stuff, but in the peace of the night air, you can feel it tugging at you down the hill, on the side opposite the city.

You found it.

Huh. How about that. You thought land magic current and stuff went downhill, for some reason. Maybe it’s not so much topography as it is… geography? Only mountain in the city seems like a damn good place for a landwell, now that you think about it.

You shoot off another text to Rowan. It’s really hard to use little numbers and stuff to text. You have to hit each one like, a million times to type anything.

k so u kno I found sf land well on san Bruno montain, you text – there’s not even autocorrect on this phone. You wince and keep typing. Im goin 2 find it now. You hit send and make your way down the hill. Once you’re off the ridgeline, everything becomes dark once again, the glow of San Fransisco obscured by the earth. You follow the vague veins of power that you begin to feel pulsing deep in the earth beneath your feet, and concentrate mostly on not falling over from your lack of coordination.

You should have thought about checking around here earlier, actually. It would have made a cool hike if nothing else. Maybe you can bring some of your friends up here sometime. They’d be up for that kind of thing, right?

You wander around, leaving navigation to your internal compass, which says that you need to go straight. The power in the air thickens, and though familiar, it isn’t quite the same brand of slow life and ancientness. It’s more of a cool mix of like, rushing energy and warm sparks. Either way, the sensations begin to become oppressive and overwhelming, especially in your fatigued state.

>>33782072
Only the first three rolls are looked at. The 1 was the fourth.
>>
>>33782072

>>33782078

At one point you trip and fall pretty much flat on your face, skidding to a stop only a few feet later – good thing you weren’t wearing your glasses. You scowl and get back to your feet, and move forward, your view blurred and hazy in the light of the invisible energy.

Then, as you walk forward, a tiny star of bright, colorless light begins shining clearly out in the middle of the grassy slope. It surprises you that you didn’t see it sooner, and you take a step back. The light vanishes, as if it can only be seen within a certain range. You shrug to yourself and continue forward, heading for the light.

You can’t imagine a legion of demons marching through such an unassuming point of light and life. But hey, if you can just poke it, your landmaster powers will make sure nothing crazy ever happens here.

You’re prepared for the magnetic pull of the landwell, and you don’t resist it. You begin your approach to the landwell.

It’s not until after your legs are yanked out from under you that you realize you’ve been baited into a pretty well-orchestrated trap.

You slam into the ground and twist around to find out what’s on you. And it’s a fucking hissing, snarling condapede, wrapping around your legs. Another one bursts from the dirt and bites at your face, and its all you can do to wrestle it away while you’re still on the ground.
>>
>>33782104
EVERYTHING IS SNAKES
>>
>>33782104

In a big circle around the landwell, huge, thousand legged snakes writhe and slither toward you from all directions.

Not again. Not this crap again, not after – no, no no – please not this. (-1 Sanity: 84/100, +16 Stress: 16/100)

“Countless gifts given, and countless more wasted on you, Daughter of Corithis,” says Philostrathus, appearing out from behind a cluster of condapedes as they worm toward you. She’s far off, at nine o’clock if you’re at six and the landwell is the center of the clock thing.

A corona of unseen flame licks from the demon’s pale form and brushes the earth about her. (Philostrathus: 6/6 HP; 55 PP) She leers at you, her snake face smug in a smug face snake smile. “Let’s see you wrangle your way out of your fate while the Butcher slumbers!” he screams, her voice strident and cutting. Excitement and hatred break off of her in great waves.

>You and your fucking snakes, woman!

Right, do not touch the landwell, the last time we touched one it knocked us out for some amount of time and left us at 98 Stress. We have to eliminate Philo first.

The first step is to use Explosive Flare, the mass of condapedes should keep the fire from spreading too far. Then charge Philo, hit her with Sap Will and Terrorizing Gaze, restrain her with shadows, and Soul Drinker her bitch ass until she dies.

Then we can drink her presumably delicious blood, and follow that up with a shiny new landwell.

It might not be quite as bad as it was the first time, but it'll probably still be bad enough to make it a really bad idea with Philostrathus around.

We just need to kill her and eat her heart first, then we can get the heart of San Francisco.

Running means she can harry us with condapedes, possibly teleport after us, build up swarms of them to drown us in. It also means we won't be getting PP back, and she's got a fairly large pool to work with.

Going in close means we can drain her PP, causing actual 'damage' to her, and use that PP to fuel our abilities. We can cut the condapedes off at their source. We might force her to spend her PP on abilities to escape, we can regen our PP from her, her PP regen probably isn't that fast in a combat situation, and hunt her down again.
>>
>>33784868
If that's true then why hasn't she done it already?

Waldric told us about the plan like 3 weeks ago. Philo has to have known about this well for at least that long.
>>
I wonder if Stain of Sin can nullify Philostrathus's passive teleport defence. If it can't though, we may have to run, since we have no way to deal damage to her otherwise.
>>
>>33785743
It wouldn't get through. Her thing isn't armor, it's a reactive teleportation that works on some kind of seer magic.
>>
>>33785743
Stains of Sin only penetrates 'physical armor,' so I'm quite certain it doesn't.

The only way we're going to win this, though, is definitely NOT running - we need to drain ALL of her PP. Spend every point we drain on defenses and healing if we have to, but drain that bitch DRY without so much as harming a hair on her head. Grapple and start sucking.
>>
>>33785875
Or hit her with a SW and call backup, THEN do your plan. Or just keep SWing her until backup arrives.
>>
>>33785743
I don't think it would, it might, but I'm guessing it won't. Satt guessed that it dislocates her when she's going to get hurt, I don't think that's the kind of thing Stain of Sin, which can damage targets otherwise impervious to physical and mundane damage, is meant to get around.

However, Soul Drinker, Terrorizing Gaze, and Sap Will should work just fine on her, as should binding her in place with Shadows. Just think of her PP as her HP now since we can do 10+1d6 damage to it, while getting 3 less PP back. Her "health" pool is pretty much a buffet that we re-purpose into trauma, depression, and shadow binding. And once she's out of PP, hopefully she can't port around anymore and we can just rip out her heart and eat it.

Okay, so the idea I'm getting is explosive flare to clear off the condapedes, followed by trying to debuff Philostrathus in every conceivable way and grapple her.

Dice for stuff.

Also, there is no forest on San Bruno. Do Google things.
>>
Alright, I'm heading to bed now. I just want it to be known that my vote is for milking her dry of PP and burning any and all PP beyond our maximum on keeping our defenses high and health topped off.

We can give her some BS explanation if need be, like we sucked the heat out of her, we consumed her inner metaphorical flame, we burned her soul, her teleportation didn't stop her from burning from the inside out, or something along those lines.

As long as it's plausible Issac will support our story. And she hopefully won't press it.

“You and your fucking snakes!” you shout. You try to tear the condapedes off you, but for every one you manage to kick off, two more latch onto you, biting and writhing. Strangely the shadows rise up to protect you from their teeth. Then you realize, the light isn’t physical. You and Philostrathus are in pitch darkness. You take some confidence in that, despite fending off more and more snake things.

You’re beginning to learn to hate snakes.

You growl and let your hatred bubble and explode to the surface. (-8 PP: 19/27; +10 Stress: 26/100) A brilliant flash with you at the epicenter illuminates dozens of toothsome, reptilian creatures in a circle about you. Fire burns devastatingly around you, incinerating grass and snake devils alike. They hiss and screech as they burn, which makes it all the more satisfying.

You leap from the snake-free blaze, and make a beeline for Philostrathus, who begins cackling madly. “I’m tearing your head off!” you scream at her, throwing your intensity into a negative-energy laced glare. (-2 PP: 17/27; +2 Stress: 28/100)

Philostrathus casually breaks eye contact with you, rounding around your psychological assault. “I hope you die with that stupid look on your face,” she says, smiling broadly.
>>
>>33787958
You need to get closer so you can do something to her she can’t dodge. You power forward, leaping over a snarling condapede and getting into the empty stretch in the center of the snake-lined circle. If you can get closer, everything will be just fine. You know how to kill her now.

Philostrathus lets out another titter of laughter, and something in her expression cues you in that she knows exactly what you’re trying to do. Perhaps your movements betray you, somehow?

Wait. How old is this woman? Has she fought Belphegorans before? And if so, how exactly does she fight them? Is snakes really the only trick up her sleeve? These thoughts and more fly through your head as you charge.

And then Philostrathus does something unexpected. She points at the landwell and flicks her wrist, and a bolt of blue lightling zaps out from her fingertip to the well. The tiny start of light suddenly spirals open, like a gaping maw, burning blue on the inside before it turns into a black void of fathomless space. “Euphraxia, quae el itte!” she shouts.

You’re passing the well now, and Philostrathus is within charging range. Except a wall of motion catches your attention, from the landwell. Or rather from out of the landwell.

It’s a condapede. But it’s bigger. It’s the mother of all condapedes. It’s as wide around as you are tall, and it barrels out of the engorged landwell as if spat from the jaws of hell. (MOAC: Holy Hell/Sweet Mercy HP)
>>
>>33787995

It comes at you fast, countless arm spines wriggling it across the ground at a feverish pace. Your mind shuts down at the sight. (-5 Sanity: 79/100)

“Behold the power of my fucking snakes, hellborn!” Philostrathus taunts, laughing.

You don’t have time to do anything. The snake overtakes you, and bites at you with jaws that would give a Great White a run for its money. You yelp and leap backward, hurling yourself away from it, though not far enough. As its jaws close at you, you panic, and you grab the shadows about you and drag you out of the way. (-4 PP: 13/27; +9 Stress: 37/100)

But then its tongue lashes out at you. Though by tongue, you mean several snapping condapedes. Condapedes within condapedes. It’s a fucking Russian nesting doll of condapedes! (-2 Sanity: 77/100) They lash out and wrap with crushing force about your legs, and drag you toward the inside of its shredder jaws, even as it pulls back toward the well. The pressure causes you to cry out – you can feel your bones straining, inches away from snapping outright – only the shadows are keeping their grip tolerable. (-4 HP: 23/27; +5 Stress: 42/100)

You grab at the shadows around you to extricate yourself from your current predicament, but you’re held fast about the legs, and everything you can do is not enough to stop yourself from being pulled backward. (+5 Stress: 49/100)
>>
>>33787995
Oh god damn it.
>>
>>33787995
OH COME ON!
>>
>>33788021

“Farewell, hellborn!” Philostrathus calls out, still laughing as you’re dragged backward away from her. “Enjoy hell! She ruined it for you, after all!”

The huge condapede pulls inexorably further back toward the portal, its rancid breath smoking out at you in waves, overpowering your senses, even as its multi-snaked tongue tightens its grip. The snakes in its tongue bite into your flesh. (-3 HP: 20/27 HP) You think you’re about to be able to put up an effective resistance as you start clawing at the earth to slow yourself down, but then the grassy floor of the mountain suddenly gives way to dusty red sandstone.

Your view of Philostrathus and the mountainside narrows to a wide hoop, around which is inscrutable darkness. Somehow, your line of sight begins shrinking, and Philo's laughter grows more distant. You catch glimmers of churning black skies in your peripheral vision, and the smell of smoke and burning sulphur is thick in the air, and the temperature has plummeted to something colder than a freezer. Lightning cracks deafeningly in the ash-choked skies above – but there wasn’t even a hint of rain a moment ago, was there?

It hits you. You’ve been pulled through the landwell. You’re not in San Fransisco anymore, not if you can’t get back through the shrinking portal before it closes.

Screw hell. You don’t even know where that is.

You feel power siphoning into you from tongue serpents biting your legs. (+2 PP: 15/27) You have no idea what you’re doing, but that doesn’t mean you’re not going to do it.

And then, for the second time, you explode. (-8 PP: 7/27 PP; +10 Stress: 59/100)

The force and intensity of the flame gives you the opening you need to claw your way out of the graboid’s tongue snakes and jump to your feet – and then the giant condapede stops and comes back after you as you lunge for the portal. You’re not going to make it, so you leap forward, propelling yourself further with shadows, expunging as much power as necessary to make up the difference. (-4 PP: 3/27 PP)

The ring of Earth closes quickly, and it’s small, now, getting smaller faster and faster. You tuck in your legs and hunch your shoulders, hoping, wishing yourself through. It’s not enough.

You shoot out of the landwell like a smoking meteor, and sprawl out onto the dirt. The raging MOAC is just a few feet behind behind, screeching awfully as the portal ceases to be in the tiny point of silver light. The sound cuts off abruptly, and as suddenly as there was a huge snake trying to eat you, now there is not, and you are once more on US soil.

Thank God. The cold air feels almost tropic after your brief stint in the abyss.

But then there’s this thing about there being like, a billion snakes everywhere and Philostrathus glowering at you.

Thankfully it should be pretty dark so we have our armor.

I'm paranoid that it's just another trick for us to fuck ourselves over with, that it'll make us go apeshit and ruin things further.

What is Mind snakes? Is that just to be aware of them? because definitely do that, whatever else we do.
>>
>>33788671
Claiming a Landwell will cause stress. We need to be VERY careful, as we're at 59 stress. Either running, Minding Snakes or charging Philostrathus are variably good ideas.

>>33788752
Yeah, if we can see PPs now, can we see if Philo took herself out of being able to send us to hell? That would massively reduce the pressure on us, down to just being an army of fucking demon bug snakes
>>
Ok. It looks like people want to claim the well.

Cal we at least summon the imp and either have it attack Philo or try to wakes us up if the well knocks us out.
>>
>>33788794
It gained us 50 stress. We have like 10~ more stress to start now than we did then I think.
>>
>>33788811
No whip, no imp unless it's precharged.

We have 3 PP. Imp costs 5, Whip costs 2, Soul Drinker costs 3. We need to get a Soul Drinker off on her if we want this fight to work.
>>
>>33788726
How much PP is Philostrathus at? I want to know if she has enough left to pull that portal bullshit again before I commit to claiming the landwell.
>>
>>33788831
That's why I said Soul Drinker, Mind Snakes, or Run.
>>

That would be good. If we can get it off. I'm not sure if we can.
>>
>>33788726
Would we have been stuck in hell with murderous condepedes if we didn't get out?
>>
>>33788800
If we do have it ready to go, there is literally no reason not to

Unless philo has drained her reserves, we need to claim the landwell since we haven't got it in us to make a getaway or fight directly, and if this is the case then we want at least some sort of ally as backup.

>>33788823
that's not so bad I guess, since this time it's more familiar and we should be a bit better with stress anyway what with our EXTREME YOGA
>>
>>33788831
Summons are always pre-charged now. I don't know why Languid hasn't added it to the char sheet since it's a big deal, but they are.
>>
>>33788671
>say stuff - "your too late!'
>claim landwell
>>
>>33788845
What we do here depends a bit on exactly where everything is right now

If we are in poking distance of philo, then there's no harm in dark hearting her and gaugeing her PP to see if we need to go after the landwell critically or somewhat less critically
>>
>>33788851
We have 20/27 HP, we're not really worried on HP.

If we get a Soul Drinker off we'll be at 11-16 PP, which is not a bad amount especially if we can keep on draining her.

We're not that worn out, we just need to get close to her and we'll be back in fighting shape.
>>
>>33788734
Put a blanket on top of it too.
>>
>>33788873
The key issue is if we can tell whether Philo is capable of that last stunt again. That is what decides whether we risk claiming the well in the middle of the fight or not.
>>
>>33788873
>We have 20/27 HP, we're not really worried on HP.
Honestly, stress seems to be the worse problem for us in general. The fights that have gone badly with us have all ended in berserk, not Sierra getting rekt.
>>
We need to know Philo's PP to be able to vote on this. I don't understand why you wouldn't tell us.
>>
>>33788873
Keep in mind Dark Heart works with Soul Drinker, so that's 12 pp. Stress is a valuable commodity right now.
>>
>>33788885
Agreed, it'd be good to see the risk, but we can't give her an opening to, well, open it again. Also, Sierra is at least moderately aware of what claiming a Landwell is like. There's a good chance it won't lay us out quite like last time (when we weren't even entirely aware of the landmaster thing).
>>
>>33788890
which is why I'm really fucking reticent about the landwell. It's only something to do if we think there's a risk of a second hellportalling. Otherwise, it's far more preferable to try and tank out way out and darkheart the PP we need to put distance between us.
>>
Rolled 9

>>33788890
Languid really needs to tell us how philo is doing for us to make a smart decision.
Claiming this landwell surrounded by condapedes+philo would be one of the riskiest things we've ever done.
>>
>>33788916
Definitely, if we're blind on this we have to take it since getting sent back to hell is basically Party Over, and we can't allow it to happen at all. If we can determine that it;s not a risk though, then we don't want to flirt with massive stress dumps and potential temporary loss of consciousness here.
>>
>>33788926
I couldn't agree more. We need information on Philo, both location and current PP.
>>
>>33788916
keep in mind the hellportal happened after a nat100, after getting a nat100 on our stealth.
Philo isn't that tough an attacker, we're just panicking.
>>
Sorry, you're just a little too stunned to be checking PP potential right now. Sierra's not that great at power reading yet to do it on the fly, when she's just escaped getting sucked into hell.

Anyway, are you claiming the landwell or going for Philostrathus? If there's unanimity, roll dice.
>>
>>33788926
where were these rolls earlierrrrrr

I know you can't "use shit up" but don;t roll outside of when we need it, the good rolls just hurt us more.

>>33788954
Good point; now that we know to avoid the portal zone it should be a massively smaller risk. May be worth leaving it outright, even if she does have PP high still.
>>
>>33788954
We are in a shitty situation right now though. Dick all for PP and our stress has been blasting up. That said, we're not immediately fucked. Especially if we can somehow land Soul Drinker.

If we get a level up from this and get to choose abilities, we really should get Inflict Pain. It gives us a big edge against tough opponents, and it synergizes well with working with a group.

I'd suggest Blood Curse as well, we don't have any ways of dealing with buffs and magical protections, and Blood Curse should help with that as well as giving us a solution to regenerators.

Blood curse has looked like a pretty solid option for a while now, and lately we have been getting fucked by regenerators and enemies with buffs.
>>
Voice of One Thousand Teeth would have wrecked Philo. Every single time she materialized, we'd just turn the area where she's standing into an umbrakinetic woodchipper and she'd go poof and give us a second to reposition and think. Maybe call someone.
>>
One thing to consider, as soon as we're not completely in the shit we should start keeping alert for incoming angels. I strongly suspect the Hallows may have noticed the fight on the mountain at some point, and we really don't want to be all demonic if Sutt turns up to the party
>>
>>33789185
This is a decent point but it's so many kinds of the least of our worries right now.

Hence "as soon as we're not completely in the shit"

You smile broadly back at Philostrathus, an unnatural giddiness overtaking you. “I didn’t give you permission to use my landwell,” you say, your voice low and threatening. Without looking, you reach up behind you. Your claws make contact with the muted point of light shining over your back.

You feel tangible light, barely a feeling at all. Then, a familiar jolt of electric energy zaps up your arm and through your body. You bar your teeth in a smile as your muscles spasm at the influx of raw power. (+10 Stress: 69/100)

Rich red, crimson light bathes the entire hillside in shifting, hellish light. Implacable shadows wave and dance all about you, as if in celebration of a dark victory.

Condapedes close in on you from all sides.

Then a heavy thrum of pressure blows past you, washing your jacket and clothes flat against your back like a current of unstoppable water. You feel like you should be carried away by the force, but something roots you in place, even as the blowback washes all of Philostrathus’s snakes away from you.

The burning behind your heart reignites and redoubles, from what was once a soft flame to a raging firestorm. You laugh maniacally and grasp at the twinging pain that shocks through your body and with every heartbeat. You’re already on your knees and you stay there, knowing you probably couldn’t stay standing anyway. (+10 Stress: 79/100)

>>
>>33789519

You can’t fight the painful fire that spreads from your chest down through your entire body, so you embrace it instead. The power is so full, so much of everything, that you feel like you’re going to explode, in the best way possible. You can go for exploding right now. Explode forever. (-5 Stress: 74/100)

The force pressing at your back suddenly has physical effect, but you root yourself to the ground and keep your eyes fixed on Philostrathus, hating her with all the force of your being. The same shockwave hits all of her creatures and catches her right in the chest, bowling her over with great force, and slamming her frail frame to the ground. She cries out in surprise, and immediately five snakes are beneath her, pushing her back to her feet. (Philostrathus: 5/6 HP; 31 PP)

Your body ceases to feel exhausted, drawing upon the frenzied energy shooting through your veins like lightning.

The light behind you pulses in angry shades of red, erattically switching from quiet tones of maroon to brilliant scarlet and red. You can tell by the look in Philostrathus’s eyes that it’s not just you that’s seeing it, either.

You feel more powerful, though not quite in the way you were expecting – some of it seems like it should be outside of you, even though it’s not. Either way, confidence suffuses your being, and you know that you’ve got this. (-5 Stress: 69/100)

HP: 20/27
PP: 32/32
Bloodlust: Rising
Summons: Imp; ??

The fury of the landwell has granted you additional powers.

>Shadow Self: Your shadow is an extension of your body, and you can manipulate it without special concentration or effort. It can also take the form of four shadowy tendrils, which you can use just like your other limbs.

Choose one of the following.

-Infernus-
Red Quickening
>While in battle, tasting fresh blood sends you into a frenzy, making you faster, stronger, and more violent than before. (Gain bonus to damage and physical checks for one round after imbibing blood)
Bloodletting
>You reflexively know where to hit to cause the most bleeding possible. (Melee attacks cause damage over time at a rate of 1d3 per round on top of any other wounds or status effects inflicted, if left untreated.)
Blood Curse
>You cause the blood of your target to become unstable, greatly weakening it. (Target takes increased damage and suffers great penalties to healing. Causes random bleeding, which allows for easy tracking. Persists for at least one day, if not removed.)
Blood Rage
>Whenever you kill an opponent in close quarters, gain a small amount of HP and PP proportional to the strength of the creature, and lose stress.
>>
>>33789869
I don't want him to be influenced by us regarding this at all, to be honest. I'd rather he plan our growth, with us only choosing skills.
>>
>>33789906

-Verwelken-
Voice of One Thousand Teeth
>You can push shadows farther than they like, and cause them to bristle. Turn a space of shadow into a cloud of cutting darkness. (4 PP, area effect, effective against unarmored targets)
Whisper of Lightlessness
>Sometimes, you can hear the shadows speaking to you. They tell you what they’ve seen, if only you listen.
Translucency
>You can bend light around you for a short period of time, making you difficult to spot. (1 PP/ sec when moving, 0.5 PP/second when still)
Stepping of the Corner.
>You now understand how to pass through corners and other angles, unhindered. (Low power charge on use.)

-Belphegoran-
Inflict Pain
>Ignite an opponent’s senses with a crippling overload of pain. (High cost, powerful debuff)
Spell Eater
>Parry incoming magic and absorb it, negating its effects and gaining a part of its energies. (Arcane defense, Cost: ~ varies on spell being countered)
Unnatural Charm
>Influence others’ perceptions of you, and gain some insight as to how to manipulate them into doing what you want. (Activated power, uses PP)
Corrupting Hex
>Destroy spells, buffs, or debuffs on target. (Moderate cost, utility spell)

Also, upgrade one of the following.

Hellfire -> Hellblaze
>Becomes 3d5 damage up from 2d5 damage. Includes hellbolt and the fire whip.
Claws -> Rending Claws
>Becomes 3d3+1 damage up from 3d2+1.
Venomous Fangs -> Paralytic Venom
>Add alternative, nonlethal venom.

Get this, it's a really damn good debuff, gives us a serious edge in any 1 vs 1 fight, and works well when we have a team with us.

I'd get Rending Claws. Extra Hellfire damage is nice, but there seems to be a good number of things that resist fire, and our Claws get us PP back on use due to Dark Heart and we can penetrate armor with Stain of Sin with them.

I could see wanting Paralytic Venom for nonlethal takedowns.

I'm more interested in non-combat powers like corner-stepping and Unnatural Charm. Corrupting Hex and Translucency both seem amazing, though. Languid does these abilities so well.

For the upgrades, I think we'll get the most mileage out of Rending Claws.

>Red Quickening
Seems kinda cool I guess. Useless right now for Philo
>Bloodletting
Really cool, but even more useless for right now with Philo
>Blood Curse
Very good, but not very good for right now with Philo (if we get through her trick with a real hit, she's done anyway)
>Blood Rage
Really cool. Not really useful unless there's summoners or lotsa killable mooks. Amazingly awesome for our fight right now with Philo.

>Voice of One Thousand Teeth
It'll be pretty good for future things. It'll also be pretty good for right now with Philo; it'd shred Condapedes and easily force her to port or die.
>Whisper of Lightlessness
Very useful for the future. The improvement of not always taking san loss is nice. Useless for right now with Philo unless she runs away and the shadows help us track her down or something weird.
>Translucency
Very good for the future. Lets us actually do stealth in the light. Might be good for Philo now? I dunno. She probably has magi-vision or something, but maybe not.
>Stepping of the Corner
Awesome for the future, another [VE] power that doesn't need darkness and it's walkin through walls!. Probably not good for right now with Philo.

>Inflict Pain
Really good for the future and probably pretty good for Philo.
>Spell Eater
Same as above.
>Unnatural Charm
Cool in the future for politics stuff, worse than shit for Philo.
>Corrupting Hex
Awesome for the future, probably the biggest middle finger we could possibly give Philo right now.
>>
>>33790321
Why do you care for what the power will do for right now against snake lady?
>>
>>33790342
Because we're fighting the snake lady right now. It's less important to me than how it will be in the future, but it is a factor to consider since we really don't have anything that's good for dealing with her right now. Yeah, we have the PP drain, but that will take several rounds and requires touch and she can teleport.
>>
We should get blood curse, Corrupting Hex or Inflict Pain for the debuff/damage over time.Hella hard to hurt Phil otherwise. This also provides us with some armor pen, that we need against stronger opponents.

Corrupting Hex lets us remove debuffs from ourselves( or friends), so I recommend it. We newer know when someone will be hit by weird ass curse, or use buff magics.
>>
>>33789921
Spell Eater
>Parry incoming magic and absorb it, negating its effects and gaining a part of its energies. (Arcane defense, Cost: ~ varies on spell being countered)
This.

Venomous Fangs -> Paralytic Venom
>Add alternative, nonlethal venom.

This would be damn perfect for snake bitch right now. That hellblaze though.
>>
>>33790883
Has she thrown magic at us aside from the Centicondas?
>>
>>33790765
I'd say Corrupting Hex would be best RIGHT NOW because of Philo, assuming it removes her disjoint ability or whatever as well. Inflict Pain is just good overall debuff, and can wreak havoc even on those who don't have spells and shit on.

I'm leaning towards Hex myself just so Philo dies for sure and we can deal with the likes of Meckor more easily in the future. This would mean dealing with the likes of Ranthix would continue to be difficult if not almost impossible.

Blood Rage is super important too, though maybe not right now.

Why is this so hard?
>>
>>33790908
Lightning during the fight with Meckor, when Ranthix and he dove into a store.
>>
We should learn magic.
>>
>>33790950
On the other hand, Translucency would be hella good because we rely on ambushing to not get wrecked and our only stealth requires night or a closed, dark place. The Stepping of the Corner would also be fuckin awesome for the ambush potential as well as the escape artist shit we could pull.
>>
>>33791010
Word. They're all really good.

But honestly, I want to win this fight really badly and Hex would provide that most likely. I really really want her dead.

Related to relying on sneaky attacks, that might change in the near-far future, if we start lifting like Ranthix said.

Fuck, man, I don't know.
>>
>>33791161
Even if we do get stronger, there's no way in hell I'm going to vote to run at a dude and tank bullets and then tear his head off when we could instead track him with super senses and then walk through the wall behind him and tear his head off or sneak up all invisible and tear his head off. Or use some future Belph suicide aura and make him tear his own head off.
>>
>>33791178
>future Belph suicide aura and make him tear his own head off
Causing people to commit suicide in front of you might be one of those things that causes Sanity loss.

If Corrupting Hex can be used to remove debuffs on an ally, that makes it more interesting. At this point, I think Blood Curse might be better, but for Philostrathus specifically I think being paranoid and choosing Corrupting Hex could work in our favour.
>>
>>33791178
>suicide aura

Goddamn, son, I like the way you think. Also a good point.

>>
>>33791533
>>33791564
Just wait until it drops below 75. I bet that shit is going to be dark as fuck.
>>
I haven't really seen anybody discussing it, but I like the hellblaze way more than the rending claws.

Fire gives 1 more damage minimum and raises the max potential damage by 5.
Claws doesn't increase the minimum damage at all and only raises the max potential damage by 3.

On top of that, a lot of the things that are immune to fire are going to be pretty resistant to the claws anyway, which means we're going to probably be using Stain of Sin to hurt them, which we'd want to put on a gun anyway so we aren't within melee range of the physical brawler. Or SoS on Zelathis because that thing causes explosions.
>>
>>33791787
We use claws much more often. They are more efficient. There are a lot of situations we wouldn't want to go around shooting fire.

>a lot of the things that are immune to fire are going to be pretty resistant to the claws anyway
This is just not true.
>>
>>33791826
>This is just not true.
Name the things that can deal with fire but not claws. Then name the things that can deal with both.
>>
Did we get any more additional physical features other than the shadow?
>>
Actually, also additionally, how come we don't have Mix powers to choose from?
>>
>>33791970
We'll probably find out next thread since Lawnguy never updates the char sheet until the start of a new thread.
>>
Hmmmm....
I wonder if Corithis also purchased Unnatural Charm and used it regularly on her children
>>
>>33791982
Probably because Languid isn't completely sure what constitutes a [MIX] power himself. The claws used to be one, but now they're [IN]
