You newest purchase in hand, a super-fancy velvet mantle and red dress, you depart Percival's store having secured a new supply of clothing for your store. The dreary grey sky seems to be driving most of the more casual townsfolk inside in anticipation of the rain, though some seem to be too busy to notice it or otherwise simply don't care.

For you, though, it doesn't really affect your plans. You've got a little time before lunchtime.

We've been spending a lot, though. It's not because we made three good sales we can start spending money on luxury.

cheap rings, weapons or armor

So it makes more sense when we sell more expensive stuff.

Picking your way along the quiet streets, you make it back to the store soon enough. The empty store doesn't respond to your greeting, something which disquiets you a little. It's been a while since no-one was here to welcome you home.
Pushing the thought aside, you flip the sign on the door to [OPEN] and take up your usual spot behind the bar.

"Hi Caillou!" You smile happily. "How can I help you?"

He grimaces as he begins his explanation. "I find myself in need... For my experiments, I need some water shrooms, the kind that only grow in dungeons. I cannot proceed until I have them."

Water shrooms? Hmm, you don't have any in stock, but you're pretty sure you know which mushrooms he's talking about. You've spotted them growing here and there on your visits.

"I'm sorry, I don't have any in stock! But it should be easy enough to get some for you. How many do you need?"

"Hmm, about twenty should do. Though if you can acquire more I will pay for those too."
You do some mental arithmetic. Then lose your count and try again. Then lose count again and resort to the calculator on your counter. Twenty mushrooms isn't a big order, and will probably only get you 1,000Pix. You'll just have to make sure you can pick something else up while you're there!

"Okay, I can manage that! When do you need them by?"

Caillou frowns in discontent at you. "Were you not listening? I need them right now. However long I lack them is time spent not continuing my experiments."

"R-right! Okay, I'll try to get them as soon as possible! Is tomorrow morning good?"

He sighs. "Fine, it will have to do." He leaves the store.

After his departure, a man arrives with a delivery of clothes from Percival. You thank the man and show him where to drop the crate of clothing ready to be sorted later.

Shortly after that, your next customer appears.

You hop down off your stool and walk around the counter to help him look around the store. "That offer of a 10% discount still stands, you know! Since you're such a nice person."

"Oh, haha. That's real nice of you. Really, I do appreciate it."
You start to show him some of the items you have on offer and guide him around. Very quickly though, you notice that he seems to be shying away from anything expensive. In fact, he seems to be specifically only looking at the things that are only a few hundred pix tops.

>Ask him what his budget is?
>Let him choose for himself?

As he continues looking, you idly ask him a few innocent questions. "So what do you do for a living?"

"Hmm? Oh, I do odd jobs here an' there. If someone needs somethin' doing, I'll give it a go if I can!"

"That sort of sounds like something an adventurer would do."

"Haha yeah well that's good. Since I am one."

Your eyes widen at the claim. "Really? So you go into dungeons and stuff?"

"Aaah, well. Nothing, really. I sort of don't have anything spare. I just spent the last of my money on gifts."

"Gifts? Who for?"

"Well, the kids at the orphanage. I owe the place, so I stop by when I can with presents for the kids."

"Wow!" you exclaim. "You really are super nice!" He scratches the back of his neck again, laughing gently.

"Well, I try."

Seeing a chance, you bring up the mushroom order. "Say, would you like to help me with a job? I need to go into the dungeons soon to get some mushrooms for a customer. I'd love to have you along!"

His eyes go wide. "Yeah! Yeah I'd love to! When are you leaving?"

He nods eagerly, then quickly exits the store.

Following his departure, the store remains quiet for some time. One old man visits and buys your rusty old dagger, claiming to need a tool for something, but other than that you get no custom.

He swings the thick metal shield from his back and rests it against your counter, then proceeds to unbuckle his sword belt. "And. From a purely economic standpoint, taking the gear back now would increase the chance of them being in working order, and Alouette will certainly provide Louie with something better.

From a personal standpoint, I'm not saying we get hostile or even mean. I just say that, as far as Louie is concerned, any relationship can only be purely professional. Alouette and her fairy, on the other hand, are aquaintances, and perhaps can become friends if they want to.

Question: we're doing an official dungeon dive, with the paying entrance fee, right?
>>
>>33770834

You would make a terrible friend. We can still be friends after all this, we just have to not be cunts about it.

Also, I kind of want to partner up with Alouette (or expand and absorb her) when we start getting older and more ambitious, if we are going to take over from Terme, with or without his help and blessings, then we're going to need allies and friends, people we can trade with and business partners.

"Keep the gear for now," you say. He stops unlacing long enough to stare at you in a light state of shock. "You can give it back later." A difficult expression forms on his face, he tries to take in your meaning.
"I'm actually going into the dungeons this very afternoon! You two are more than welcome to come along! I'll be leaving right after lunch. And if you do come, you might as well have your gear until we get back safely right?"

"Right- yeah, right okay." He laces the plate back on, then picks his sword and shield back up, then nods his thanks to you. He looks away. "I guess, I'll see you after lunch then." You agree, and he swiftly makes his way out of the store.

You treat emotional investments, the people you make those ties with, as individual savings accounts, and when the market is right, you can further your investment, or call upon it.

You wouldn't want anyone to go hungry just because they're not here right now. You're sure they'll be back soon enough, and if not... well, you could always make something that can be heated back up for dinner later.

Some time later, you've eaten your fill and left the rest on covered plates at the table, along with a note explaining to the others that you'll be out for the afternoon. Right on time, Elan appears at the store's window, waiting patiently for you. As you're locking up the store, however, you realize that only you and Tear actually have keys to the store. Well, you'll just have to hope Tear gets back before Charme or Euria.

You look to Elan. "Uh... I thought you were going to get your gear?" He looks confused at your question. He's standing before you in the exact same clothes with no weapons or armor in sight.

"I did," he says. He rolls up his sleeve to reveal a wooden armband with some pattern scored in, and shows you a lucky charm around his neck. "Can't be going into danger without these!"

...You decide not to inquire further and depart the store.

Louie and Alouette are waiting for you at the Adventurer's Guild.

"Ohohoho," Alouette laughs aloud as she sees you approach. "I see you have once again chosen to employ the lowest adventurer plebeian you could find!"

The process of entering the dungeon takes way, way longer than you'd anticipated, with how you end up having to fill out a whole bunch of paperwork stating who you are, why you want to loot the dungeons, which adventurers you're acquainted with and other pointless information the Guild probably doesn't need to know. Elan helps you through the whole thing though, and you suspect this would've taken you hours if you'd had to go through this alone.

Still, after a grueling twenty minutes, you're accepted as a valid Sponsor within the Guild and permitted to pass the portal gate and into the Living Dungeons beyond.

Once more, Louie and Alouette are already there, waiting patiently for you to catch up.
The superior smirk on Alouette's face gives you a rather foreboding feeling that this only marks the beginning of how this jaunt is going to roll.

>Let the jibe go?
Glance towards Louie, then back at Aloutte.

>Split the fee fairly?

And that's it for now. Thank you all for reading!

The rest of the thread is open to debate and discussion, and for Q&A! Beside that, I hope you all had fun and I hope to see you all again same time next week!

Why do I have a bad feeling that the bitch is going to fuck us over somehow? Also, we should ask our adventurer what that charm of his does.

Nagi is random. Purely random. she is but a leaf in the wind.

Nagi?

She probably is. And it'll turn out to be completely inconsequential because both she and recette are adorable and so is their rivalry.
