OPENING
>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F468us4qCUE

Previously: Cerulean arrived upon a mysterious island after a mission to rescue shipwrecked personnel had gone awry due to mysterious humanoid monsters.

Meeting the natives, Cerulean found aid in the form of a humanoid monster by the name of Kurojo, a tusked Kahkori of Kakarkiko island.

With his and his uncle's help, she had been reunited with Marine, her friend from training and childhood.

After killing a fierce foe reviled by Kahkori, Cerulean fell ill, and was given a cure by Kurojo. In the village, she learned of a strange ability and found herself able to utilize "Aura."

Journeying with Kurojo, Cerulean and Marine make it to the joint city of races amongst the island chain. It is there in Raguna city that she fights to the death with a rambunctious Smolderan.
Slipping out of her right mind, she executes her foe with absolute certainty, earning her some recognition with a Smolderan leader and the right to engage in a hunting exam at his request.

Cerulran takes a test with another species known as the Araraki, an infallibly polite and timid representative of her people.
Upon completing the hunt, they are put through a naming ceremony and engage in some festivities, taking a somewhat heavier turn as Akabaron, Vi-Smohkan of the Smolderan, goes over his deal with Cerulean.

A ship made through the efforts of the three great races...

>Season Finale

Ah well, its been fun.
>>
Cannons erupt from the broadside of the ship, the shells delivering a punishing payload that forces the beast's beam up, grazing over the deck and through one of the masts on the forward deck, The entire sail comes down onto the ship with a slow fall like a lumberjack's tree. Onto the deck it falls, and the residual beam singes the air with electricity, causing those caught in range to suffer severe electrical birds. The screaming of Khakori can be heard even from your end of the ship down in the mid.

The smolders manning the cannon below deck unleash a cry of victory in battle, a decisive blow on their part.

The echo of lightning lingers in the air, jumping and sparking across the moisture, the Leviathan's own body glowing with a similarly violent charge. As the monster dips back into the water with a slow methodical churn, suddenly turning and smashing its side into the ship, splintering wood and knocking more water on deck. Seems it didn't like the cannons below.

The thing's ram sends you and the others sprawling from the sudden jolt. Jojo grabs your and Sera's hands and steadies the two of you to your feet. Marine makes do by breaking a handhold into the deck to give herself something to grab.

“This thing is just too big!” She yells out with a wicked grin on her face. Something's ignited in Marine, something fierce. Her eyes scan over the injured on the deck, the fallen mast, the progressively worsening state of the ship.

“We can't keep getting hit like this!” You cry out, “If this keeps up, the whole ship's going down!”

“We must go on offensive! Eyes, ears, and where else we can hit.” Seralana hisses, letting go of Kurojo's hand and drawing in a storm of natural energy to her claw. “Come, we fight!”
>>
>>33757175
yeah, I'll meet you guys again in like, I dunno, months.
A few months I guess.
>>
The beast's back crackles haphazardly, the damage done leaking out the electric charge at an alarming rate, yet it still shines brighter than before. Its entire body, in fact, has taken on a considerable charge since that beam was fired.
The Araraki hunters throw another volley of natural energy at the beast, giving it cause to dive to rid itself of the irritation.

“I don't like the look of that.” Jojo glares at the thing's crystalline back as it slithers around the ship, only its back partially exposed. “Does it seem brighter than before?”

An electric field engulfs the beast as it dives, leaving only its crackling back exposed as it circles around, made wary by the damage done by that last cannon offensive.

Up high on the ship, the captain calls down to a Khakori that's stayed resolutely by the hunting gong, “Is it ready yet!? It's going back under!”

The Gong Player holds a small metal mallet, standing by a similarly metal device, the one used to call the beast out in the first place. “Not yet cap'n! The Gong's vibrations haven't stopped yet!”

They told you about that device before. When chimed with absolutely no vibrations it sends out a shockwave effect that can summon faraway monsters due to the irritation they feel, or stun them when they've come up close. If they hit it while its still vibrating though, the monsters will be adjusted to it and it'll only irritate them more.

This means you'll have to deal with drawing the monster out manually. And with how cautious it's being since that last bit of cannonfire, it'll be wary of surfacing. It almost had you all after it wet the deck's cannons, but the ones within the walls of the ship had remained dry.
At this point, the ship won't hold up to a drawn out confrontation with this monster. What you need is the impaler.
>>
Marine steadies herself to her feet, eyeing the thing from around the shaking deck and turbulent sea “The electricity doesn't bother me.” She grins a dangerous grin, one that tells you she has a bad idea. “But I'm thinking we need to hit it with something big...” Her gaze lingers on the fallen mast..

Jojo draws his spear from the deck, the thing crackles with his own determination. “If it comes out of the water, I can get one of its eyes.”

>Whats the plan?

>Marine seems to have some crazy idea about the broken mast.
>Jojo's ready to drive his spear through the monster's eye at the next chance he gets.
>Seralana is ready to attack a weakpoint.
>>

Marine is immune to its electricity
>>

Seduce the beast.

Or lure it somehow.
>>
>>33757298
Im going to at least try and follow the other quests, just in case something bad happens to Dran while they go on.

Just like with Gobble.
;_;
>>
>>33757342
What was the effect of having attacked the blue crystals? Or did you forget that we did that?

>Marine seems to have some crazy idea about the broken mast.
Let's do this. Get close, have Marine drive in the mast through its eye. We can distract it.
>>
>>33757342
why not all three start with johobto distract it then sera an finally marine to finish
(if not just the crazy mast plan
>>
>>33757342
Marine, I thought you were in the water already. I was about to jump out and join ya!
Your plan about hitting it with the mast sounds like exactly what we need though.
Unless I'm reading this prompt wrong, in which case upon re-reading it my plan is
>give jojo handholds to climb up to the beast with ice-spike shooting
>assist marine in making the mast hit with frost slicks to reduce friction and cutting leftover ropes holding it down
>toss seralana at weak point with perfect accuracy

No, I didn't, though I did mess up this part in editing.

>The Beast's back crackled haphazardly, the damage done to the blue crystals(etc)

>>33757412
She got brought out with the wave the monster laid out on the ship.
To touch on it a bit more, the monster specifically wetted the ship before using an electrically charged beam.

Go crazy or go home.
>>
>>33757342
Freeze the water into little sharp scales. Hopefully we can stick the fuckers into the beast to impede its movement. Have you guys ever crawled on broken glass?
>>
>>33757510
Hey, how does the 3DMG work? We just shoot stuff and then press a button to get reeled in?
>>
>>33757654
The beast is in the ocean...?

Unless you mean to try freezing the ocean...
>>
>Frost Wave still rank 5
It should be 7
>>
>>33757688
now that we're on the topic, how much seawater can we freeze mid-combat?

We could create effective single-fin restraints if we have a fair bulk of water we can freeze. It might take him a while to break out.
>>
>>33757685
There are two harpoons located on your side. And yeah, pretty much. In the ocean it can give you extra propulsion and reel in while simultaneously bringing you closer.
>>
>>33757688
I want icicles sticking out of the fucker and I'm not picky how it happens.
>>
>>33757654
That won't really be effective since it's easy to displace them. It's....in the water, you know?

>>33757716
What's the range? If we got tired after using something like Blizzard, would we be able to manipulate it?
>>
>>33757715
A good portion, it'll require some focus and effort, but it can be done.

>>33757731
Range is pretty decent. Mid-range at 20M
And yes.
>>
>>33757821
well, after marine tries her stupid/great plan, when the thing starts running, let's try using the 3d gera to follow the creatures while we freeze sections of its' movement apparatus
>>
>>33757342
Jojo throws Seralana at eye/weakpoint

We do the mast thing with Marine
>>
>>33757715
>>33757821
Now I'm all for this, but you realize that the electric aura thing is still crackling, right? If we don't this, I'm not sure Ceru will be up for actually damaging the beast.
>>
>>33758034
This is a thing we're doing later, not right now.
When the thing starts to want to dive deeper, or flee.
Or after the marine plan.
basically, whatever time we are forced into the water with it.
>>
“Marine, what are you thinking?” You follow her eyes to the mast, it weighs heavily into the ship, rocking and still just barely holding up with the presence of ropes.

She smiles back at you dangerously, the whites of her teeth flashing with the thundering sea's light, “I think we need a bigger harpoon.”

Considering your options, you smile and seek Jojo and Sera for approval, they seem to like the idea. “Hey, if you can lift it, lets do it.” You give her a nod of confirmation and run across the boat with the others, calling out for them to cut the ropes of the mast.

With the leeway you've been given by way of a cannon cross counter, you take the time to give the mast a sharp ice-capped point. Freed of the ropes save for one secured to a winch and manned by a Smolder that's returned to the upper deck.

The grace period is interrupted by a sudden thrashing upon the ship as the beast tears into the rear with all of its fury shining like a great white star at the peaks of its charge, falling rapidly into its normal hues due to the electrical leakage.

“Its tearing into the rutter! Get this thing off!” The helmsman shouts down, rear mounted ballista firing thick bolts to fend off the monster. With a crunch and the splintering of wood, it shakes off, disappearing into the sea, streaks of pink trailing from its head in clouds amongst the white electrified waters.

You give Marine a pat on the back. “Time to get to it, we're backing you up.”

“Alright!” Marine grabs the colossal mast, hoisting it up with all of her muscles in full flex, the sheer cut of her muscles rippling through the exposed portions of her shell armor. With a final grunt and a yell, the entire thing is over her shoulders, a great metal, wood and ice lance mounted upon the back of the strongest girl among the islands. The Khakori witnessing the spectacle stare on with wide eyes. You run to the broken railing of the deck and wave her over.
>>
“C'mon Marine, it's coming around starboard!”

“Right...” She takes a sing firm step that cracks the wood as she presses down, then another, and another faster still, in the next she breaks out into a full sprint, teetering the already rocking ship as she bellows out a wordless warcry, leaping through the air, sailing with the weight of her spear.
With a single taut motion she forces the entire thing to change direction, pointing it down into the crackling water, digging her fingernails deep into the slick wood for grip, she throws the entire thing with all of her strength.

From where you stand, the ocean accepts the weapon, suddenly finding resistance, and then the whole thing dips down from the force. The sea darkens and the point of impact reverts to red before flashing again with a pink static.

The Beast's head explodes out of the water with a roar of agony, unleashing a charged beam wildly into the mutual darkness of sea and sky, alighting abyss and space alike with its pain.

A cheer rings out from the upper deck, but your eyes are on Marine as she slides down onto the mast transferring herself atop it at an angle, she slicks it with muddy water and slides down, riding the wave of her attack into the drink, all the while firing Mud bombs at the thing's head and slowly exposed back from where the mast made contact.

In a blur of red, Kurojo leaps out for the beast's head, the determination of his spear crackling like a raijin straight into the eye of the beast. This time the cheer is a round of cannonfire from those unbroken below deck. A pitiful squander from the first attack, yet welcome nonetheless.

Seralana leaps out for the mast, sending a vine out to swing for the back of the beast's head just as Kurojo makes first contact, she sends out the delayed orb of energy. Causing the thing to shudder in even more pain.
>>
>>33758378
>mounted upon the back of the strongest girl among the islands
Considering Nala beat her at arm-wrestling, I wouldn't say she was the strongest.

With Kurojo taking out an eye, he begins to try to wrench his weapon free as the beast thrashes, threatening to send him flying. Seralana runs over the head and lassos him with a vine, before leaping back to the ship, sending out a flurry of small energy spheres to cover their departure, the thing turning to get away as Marine smashes into the crystals on its back with her bare hands, throwing out her overwhelming strength.

With the damage done, the beast's crackling charge that'd been spread throughout the ocean has dissipated, and it dips down, preparing to dive.

You won't let that happen. With a shuddering breath you tap deep into the cold within you, the air crystallizing at your respiration. The cold is good. You are the cold. You are winter.

The warm air of the sea plummets in temperature, the ocean spray as it hurtles itself onto the boat turning into a hard glitter. Seralana lands with Jojo, the two of them rolling onto the deck of the ship, sliding due to creeping ice, forcing them to create footholds much to the Araraki's dismay.

“Ceru?”

“Shhh...” You quiet him and the atmosphere drops from hot and humid into a cold howling wind whisking away at the sea, surrounding the leviathan at your command. The cold creeps in and wraps around it, layering the surface of its body with a slick ice from the accrued moisture. Soon it creeps deeper, dragging at the beast's movements, slowing it down as it struggles to free itself of the mast impaling it.

“Marine! Get out of there!” Jojo yells over the blast of the wind, shouting down at your friend. You continue the technique, the air snapping and the wind finally blowing on strong with the moisture in the air transforming into snowflakes, harassing and battering the monster.
>>
With a death roll and a flick of its tail it snaps the mast out of its body, struggling and writhing in pain for a moment as its armored belly is up in an attempt to shake off the cold, Marine submerged underwater...

>>33760251

>>33760240
Marine can breathe underwater. And yet Dran used language to indicate she was in trouble, Just like describing the ship crew as "Hostages" when they were merely food for the Esper thing leading the Dagons.

>>33760251
According to Dran, "REASONS!!!!"
>>
>>33760285
But that's not fair to manipulate us based on his own missteps in the past.
>>
>>33760320
The problem is that he hasn't actually done anything to prove that he's changing. He's continued to make the same mistakes. So the same things will be assumed of him.

Like this fight. He's really killed the momentum by throwing in that cheap "Marine might be in trouble" flag in. He just doesn't understand how to write a good fight. This is the "season finale" and he's already made the thread this weak so early in the thread. He's killed any hope for excitement in this fight. It's just not enough to say "Oh, the monster is hurt and also close to death". His descriptions of the fight are just too sparse and unengaging.
>>
>>33760442
ugh thats a bit harsh I'm enjoying the fight don't see why everyones getting worked up. if were worried about marine we can stop blizzard but we don have to stop attacking and don't forget about the rest of the crew, ceru is not alone here she dosent have to micromanage things, pluse the beast is close to death if i read the las few posts right so even if we let up on the blizzard the cannons, bell, and impailer along with the araki and kakori should pick up the slack. to cut things short just chill.

He didn't even do anything yet, and you guys are all just speculating if marine will die or not because of QM fiat. Jesus christ, you guys are terrible.

Marine is underwater, big deal. Doesn't mean she will die. because of it or now.

Also, the ship being destroyed is to be expected, since, you know...this is an Epic Boss, not a silly nar kage.
>>
>>33760763
Heres the thing. Something the players actually give a shit about is suddenly under threat, for a pretty nonsensical reason. Marine can swim away from the beast before it does whatever bullshit its inevitably going to pull out of its ass.
However, the way Dran wrote it, Marine is now in trouble. The other times he has done this have resulted in shitstorms. I have seen no reason that it wont happen again here.
>>
>>33760763
>pluse the beast is close to death
Which is part of my complaint against Dran and his inability to write a good fight.

I know WE don't have to be the ones to keep attacking. We've got cannons on the ship. The problem here is this; why is Marine in danger? There's no logical reason why she'd be in any danger. She's even better capable of escaping than Kurojo or Seralana are. So either she's in no danger and Dran is manipulating guys like you or she's in actual danger because of bad luck (otherwise known as, because Dran wrote it so).

Dran doesn't know what it takes to write a good fight. What he's written so far hasn't even been that good and somehow he thought putting Marine in some possible danger would make things better.
>>
Just saying this to confirm, Ceru is shooting at its belly and diving.

Almost done.
>>
>>33759449
>>[x] Continue the blizzard, Marine can take care of herself.

Marine would be disappointed if we stopped because she fell into the water, she'll be fine.
>>
>>33760876
Eh i dont come to Dran's quests to read the fights. He IS actually pretty decent, IMHO of course, at writing character dialogue.
>>
>>33760970
Even if she wasn't hurt, Prof would probably just write something like "Aw, but you really care for your friends" or some cheap sentiment like that to try and make it sound like it was "okay".
>>
You abruptly end the blizzard for fear of Marine's safety. More harpoons are fired and you run yourself to the end of the deck, leaping off into the dark waters amid the missiles as they fly, unleashing a flurry of your own icicles into the beast's underbelly, green power igniting against the thing's armored scales and forcing out more thrashing.

With hands angled forward, second eyelids sliding into place, ears and nose plugging up, you enter the water, initiating your A3PMG's jets and angling your own guns back to speed through the dark blue waters. Just as you get close, the thing's body sinks down, the charge from its crystals earlier becomes all the more apparent as it once more lights the sea.

You try to scream as the electricity tickles over your body, a precursor of what's to come. In the very next moment your body is wracked with pain, seizing up as the stored electricity explodes throughout the ocean.

Everything goes white, and for a moment you lose consciousness before struggling back into a fragment of what your awareness should be. Your hands spasm and your gear fires off randomly, forcing you to unclip it from your equipment and let it speed off into the unknown.

>Hydration activated!

The water begins to soothe your senses, fending off the inevitable paralysis from severe electric shock You move your tail, arms and legs to find that some faculty's returned to them.

The water surges past you, and before you realize what's going on, you realize that you're staring right into the the crimson reptilian orbs of the leviathan. Without a moment wasted, it opens its jaws, charging up another beam, one different than before... This one bears a golden light that reaches all the way down to the sea floor and above, into the sky.
Staring into its maw is like staring into the sun itself.

This is its last attack. The dying breath. And it blames you for everything.
>>
You try to move, to attack, to get away, but the paralysis isn't out of your limbs yet. You can't quite move fast enough to escape the awful glare of what's to come.

Then suddenly, you feel something hit you, sending you on a mini-current away from the epicenter of the blast.

You look back, curiosity your first reflex.

In the golden light, you can see Marine, gritting her teeth, ready to boost her own self out of the way.

But it's too late. The light engulfs her, a blinding stream shooting down into the sea and up into the far reaches of the sky's heavens, as though she were sent right up to Arceus...

You feel your skin draining, turning an ice cold as the fatigue from the blizzard's ignored by the surging mix of despair and adrenaline. In your rage, you fire at the Lord of White Waves again and again as its eyes go dark, its blood filling the sea.

It takes you some time before you realize as the residual golden energy fades that the monster's already dead. That was its last wish. To take something from you. Something important. You keep shooting until you can't feel your hands anymore.
Each shot gives you next to no satisfaction. Alone in the dark blue slowly filling with red, you take everything out on it.

...

Eventually you make it back up on the ship when they finally pull it in. Some of the other hunters wonder why its face is so mutilated. Some try to ask you, but your desolate aura holds their questions at bay.
Jojo and Seralana put it together themselves. Everyone saw the last attack. Because of your 3PMG spazzing out, you went to the other side of the monster causing it to shoot away from the boat.

He's made empty promises to improve his fights before. He's made small steps, but he's slid back a whole lot more. Especially ever since he stopped using dice, because now what happens is based (even more) on what he wants to happen. I mean, it's not as if he didn't stack the odds on either side when he wanted to (although almost always with the enemy), but he's gotten even worse since he's effectively removed any limiting shackles for himself.

His character dialogue IS better than his fight scenes. But they can be really cringey sometimes too.

You're given a blanket by Kurojo. It's wet and it heavy upon your shoulders. You're not sure why he'd give you a blanket, even if it is a waterlogged one. You don't really understand until he escorts you below deck and you start crying into it.

He and Seralana stand by your side in silence. Above deck they clean up the wreckage, help the injured, reel in the kill and gather the dead from that initial beam.
Below deck you have a moment of silence for your own lost, Seralana seems to consider something and leaves the room quietly.

Jojo puts an arm around you for comfort. Still he says nothing.

Why are you not annoyed at Dran?

We got played and now we lost both Marine and our gear.

Even if Marine is gonna miraculously survive, it'd still be an annoying waste of time.
>>
>>33761152
Oh, no, because apparently Marine only died because Ceru was there.

And the ship only survived because Ceru was there.

Prof is crappy at this. He's written a bad fight. Not only that, he manipulated people into this situation, gave it a horrible consequence, then some "consolation prize". He does this ALL the time. He's been told to cut it out. He said he would. And then he doesn't.

Fuck, this is the LAST THREAD and he couldn't even make it enjoyable.

Prof knew what he was writing. People POINTED IT OUT multiple times. People knew Prof was manipulating everyone else into jumping into the water. And Prof did the same thing as he always does. You can't really defend Prof here.

In fact, it's so typical of Prof to do shit like this that no one can really trust him not to have somehow caused the same thing to happen no matter what.

Prof wants to make this fight memorable? He can't write a fight for shit? Better kill someone. That's SOOOOO dramatic. The fact that Marine got killed because Prof thought it would make this SEASON FINALE better makes it all so much worse.
>>
>>33761361

>>
>>33761436

But here's the thing, he took advantage of that distrust to do the thing everyone wanted to stop him from doing.

That's not good QMing. That's being a douchebag.
>>
>Marine dead
>Kurojo alive

Literally the worst outcome.
>>
>>33761361
I'm with this guy. (I think?)

I mean the only foreseeable alternative to Marine dying after the choice you all made to jump in was Ceru dying to hyper beam, which is probably how it would have gone had we kept up the blizzard, or at least having had the hyper beam aimed at our MC and having had a chance, however low, to dodge it.

Personally, I'm just glad the choices we made kept Ceru alive as a result, and we should be able to track Marine's gear and index to find what's left of her if it survived, if she didn't ditch it like we did.
>>
>>33761454

Staying on the boat would have killed Kurojo or the araraki, both options better than Marine to die.
>>
>>33761113
Anyone else feeling a lack of player agency around here?
It seems we were set up to lose Marine regardless of which option we chose.
>>
SO who's up for Jojo Dying? What about Seralana?

Hell why should we go back to the Dome if Dran is just going to continue to kill all of our friends? Honestly, im willing to bet money at this point, when we get back Devon will be dead, Lilac utterly enslaved by Sabrina whom is slowly being tortured to death and just as we get to her she dies in our arms.
>>
>>33761480
marine's gear is fucking fried homie.
We need to do a visual tracking of where the beam went, and bust out some quick index calculations if available.

>>33761385
no i didn't wich was why i voted to just ice spike him from the ship and not dive. i wanted to trust in marine to get herself out of trouble but not endanger her with our blizzard. im normally a pessimist but i had faith in marine simple as that. (again not meant to be an argument)

The prophetic dream that Seralana experienced notwithstanding, it's pretty obvious that Prof has removed any possible tension at all from the story by removing the dice. Anything that happens, happens because he says so.

There's no way to confirm that unless Dran chimes in to the effect. I mean really anyone -could- die for any number of reasons, who knows? You're blinding yourself to the truth of the situation to defend Prof.

He manipulated people. There's nothing I could do about that. There's nothing you can say to make that any less true. Prof refused to even post about how everyone was right about Marine being perfectly able to swim out of the way or that she had her 3DMG. Which makes it even more obvious that he had planned to kill her no matter what we did. And offer the consolation prize of us somehow saving the ship and crew somehow. You CANNOT argue against this. Do you know why? Because Prof has done this before. He doesn't have the trust of the people.

>>33761873
The save marine option was actually to pull her out of the water quickly and efficiently before the hyperbeam went off. With use of radios, even.

There's a reason he included three trap options that ALL kill marine. Because the other two, theoretically, COULD work if he wrote it slightly cheerier, but would actually kill marine.
>>
>>33761640
it was what ceru saw she saw her friend fall into the water and she was worried for her. when someone you care about looks to be in danger even when she is not you normally assume the worst until proven otherwise. we could have had ceru remain calm and remember that marine is a tough girl and can take care of herself but instead we jumped panicked. >>33761873
>The freeze option was to actually trust in Marine to get away before that happened.
Oh wow, really, do you have any reason to think Marine would be fine? Any at all? Or are we just supposed to trust you?

It's not about trusting Marine to survive. She only survives if Dran writes she survives. So, like everyone has been saying (and which you have been ignoring), it's about trusting that Dran didn't have plans to kill Marine no matter what. Which is hard, given his track record.

Cerulean is a soldier, albeit child soldier. You can't expect her to not have been trained to keep calm in conditions far worse than these, especially when Rocket Mode is brought up. The problem here isn't that everyone is paranoid, every quest has that. The problem is that Prof is actively fueling the paranoia every thread, then punishing us for listening. Noone could trust him to not pull some bullshit where the Blizzard freezes Marine to death, monster killing her, or anything else even against all the evidence pointing that she was perfectly fine BECAUSE Prof refuses to word anything in a way that isn't ominous and signals impending doom. He's made it so that none of the players trust him and if you can't even trust the QM, what the fuck are you supposed to believe?

My biggest concern (besides the QM turning out to be a flake) is that the playerbase will be as shitty as this one.
>>
>>33761890
well you seem like a lost cause but come on a guys sating his opinion and you say he's blinding himself to defend a qm. kinda rude don't you think (not the guy to quoted)
>>
>>33762121
It will take largely from this one. So yeah, of course it will be as shit as this one.
>>
>>33761928
how do you know that tho your currently just assuming that dran was going to kill someone no matter what
>>
>>33762109
No, the distrust for the QM made every option dangerous and risky.

We blame the QM for making it so marine would freeze in her own stupidity if we chose freeze, get maimed in her own stupidity if we chose spikes, and get blasted if we chose save her.

This is what happens when QM trust is in question.
>>
>>33762182
>how can you know?
He killed off a character for dumb plot reasons, thus confirming the "he will kill marine off for dumb plot reasons" people were right.

now you have to let them rub it in your faces.
>>
>>33762150
Yes? What does that have anything to do with the situation? The situation being Prof's horrible policies and decisions?
>>
>>33761943
but your not your saying that no matter wha dran just to be a dick was going to kill marine so instead of trusting her and by proxy dran you jumped into a dangerous situation which led to us being save by marine. this distrust is just going to piss more people off then it needs to
>>
>>33762182
Its because of the way that Dran wrote the "MARINE'S IN TROUBLE!!!" bit. Every single time he has done this, it has resulted in a fucking shitstorm.
>>
>>33762223
Actually, they were right. No matter the choice, marine would have died.

And look at that,
>save marine
got marine killed.
They were right.
>>
>>33762109
Except every choice was 'dangerous and risky'
They were essentially:
>Freeze your friend to death
>Get your friend killed saving you
>Get your friend killed by the monster

There wasn't a right option, because Prof would have just twisted the result into being the same.
>>
>>33762223
This is just proof that we have no reason to trust Dran in such matters.

Because he wrote her being in trouble, knowing what we would do.
>>
>>33761950
rocket mode recognizes marine as a rocket so that would not happen the way you think. and id like to point out that your just grasping at straws to probe that you think dran is evil (an opinion)
>>
This reminds me of those Japanese authors who listen to the fans talk about who they DON'T want dead and then immediately kill them off while leaving the shitty characters behind.

Dran's a real weeaboo, so he absolutely must be taking a page from that book.
>>
>>33762250
yep, this pretty much.
>>
>>33761890
>He doesn't have the trust of the people.
>of the people
Nigger, who do you think you are? Do you have some kind of insane pathetic belief that you are the "voice of the people" in this quest? Ewww. I just want you to know that even when I agree with you (I always know it's you because you always act exactly the same.) I still think you're an odious douche, and I really don't want to be associated with you in any way.
>>
>>33762259
At this point you're just doing exactly what people called earlier, when they said dran was doing three dangerous options that COULD work, and picking whichever one that wasn't chosen as the correct one.

You are doing the exact argument they said would prove he was a bullshit artist.
>>
>>33762223
And you're ignoring all the possible explanations given for why Marine may have died?

Or the fact that Prof refused to comment on people being right about Marine capable of swimming away? Because if he actually said she was capable of saving herself, he wouldn't be able to write about all the ways she could die from any of the other options.

Morning comes and the ship floats, on, derelict at sea. You haven't slept yet, tears dryed and salty as the remains cling to your fur along with the salt of the sea. Jojo's stayed beside you, though he fell asleep.

Seralana comes in, bringing food, setting it down beside you.
“They say that we will return to current soon.”

You nod distantly, not much caring about anything anymore. For what awaits you at Kanto, Marine gone... You just...

“We... thought that one may still live...” Seralana whispers, your ears perking up a little, the slightest glimmer of hope beating in your heart.
“But... We spoke to that one. From the other side.” She lowers her head apologetically, she had last words to you, from her. And to this one,” She gestures to Jojo.

You look up, eyes dead tired in more ways than one. A medium. You consider, you hadn't known that Sera could do that. If it was Lilac, you'd be able to hug Marine one last time. You feel the sting of tears, but they don't come out.

“For you...” Seralana crouches before you, clasping her hands over one of yours the green scales shimmering from a ray of light streaming through a bit of damage in the hull.
When she speaks, there's a strange flange and it's in Marine's voice. For the moment, her eyes shine white to deliver the dying message.
“Ceru. You're strong, stronger than me. I know you can't do anything without me, but that's just because you're always looking out for me. I tried to look out for you too. I'm sorry I didn't make it. But she told me that you're okay. And that's good enough for me to move on.”
>>
>>33762299
she said she'd do it for us otherwise.
And that nojo option was still an "I like him" option.

>arguing about a general phrase
What am I supposed to say? A number of people? But I suppose that's the only thing you can complain about at this point since you're unable to come up with any justifications for Prof at this point. Look at all that blind loyalty.
>>
“When you get back, don't tell them that I died, okay? It'd be better if I didn't die on everyone a second time... Take care of yourself, okay?”

With a sniffle, you nod and put your arms around Sera. “I will Marine. I will... I'm so sorry...”

Sera's shocked out of her trance for a moment, taken aback, but then she holds you gently. Patting your back. “It's okay.” She says in her own voice for your comfort.
She looks to Jojo while she still holds you, “That one said for you to take care of This one. If not, That one will haunt you.”

Jojo sniffles back his own tears and nods, putting his arms around you and the lizard, “Of course. I'll stay by her side, it's a promise.”

The three of you mourn together in the lonely cabin, the mirth that was Marine claimed by the distortion.

You aren't sure if she's in a better place, but your world lost a lot of light with her absence...

It's not paranoia. Especially because it's completely justified. If all you're capable of doing is ignoring what everyone's saying and telling them it's their fault that this happened, then all you're doing is trying to defend Prof's "honor".

You don't have anything reasonable to say. You don't have any convincing argument. All you're doing is stroking Prof's ego after it gets bruised by people calling him out on his shit.

Past evidence.

We know from the Boat debacle that Prof intended for us to get lost in the waves no matter what. That it was completely irrelevant whether or not we fought those monsters because the Tentacruel would come crashing in anyway. He even said that the leader of those monsters didn't summon it and that he just sensed it coming, so we know that he's not above coming up with excuses for his plot twists.

Then there are his other quests. He's very partial to cheap twists.
>>
>>33762575
well, I'm sort of sad marine's dead. I wanted to do so much with her.

Eventually, the ship finds a tied and the Lord Of White Waves is looted, all the important pieces carved out by the Araraki and Smolder and stored in the cargo hold, extra parts such as bones and scales saved for extra profit and possible equipment.

A funeral service is held, rolling off the deceased into the sea with a special honor made of Ultramarine, the strongest, mightiest hunter of the Empire come from a distant land to open the way to one entirely new to the three great races.

This honor is repeated by Hao back at Raguna City, and a statue is commissioned in your honor. You know that Marine would've liked that. Even if only in memory, she'll live on forever.

A few months later, the Arc is built, a thundering juggernaut built with the help of Araraki and Smolder, most of them from the guild and thus less affiliated working together. It is a ship powered by the Lord of White Waves, invisible to anything below with a persistent electric field for anything that dares come too close.

You're amazed that the Smolder managed to reverse engineer the Repel tech, when you asked Akabaron about it, he simply claimed that they found new uses for previously useless materials. Yet the Arc wouldn't have been this successful without the Lord Of White Waves.

Standing upon the deck risen high out of the water, with Jojo beside you the wind rolls past, fluttering through your hair. The salt of the sea carried upon it as the ship goes against the wind in complete and utter defiance of the elements.

Akabaron walks beside you, leaning upon the railing, gripping firm with his claws as a smile is traced upon his maw.

A lingering thought from you as you head home finally after months of preparation, you look to him.
“Was she one less hungry mouth?” You say out of the blue, seemingly coming completely out of context.
>>
>>33762810
At least Dran doesn't always try to combine every player choice, or include crazy amounts of character-development situations.

But I really did appreciate Gobble's work for what he did with it. Dran, not so much.
>>
>>33762965
If he says yes, we are required to bitch him out.
>>
Akabaron looks to you with his one good eye, shaking his head, the smile fading.
“No. She was the one that fed them all.” His claw taps upon the railing, as though to point down.

Pounded proudly onto the starboard bow of the ship in great iron plates against white steel...
“S.S. UltraMarine”

Weeks pass and you eventually see land on the horizon. The starcharts courtesy of Hao worked wonders in leading back home...

The Smolder, Araraki, and Khakori tuskless representative(Lord Hrozai volunteered, a gentle one he's been) have been getting wrestless, some wondering if the trek would end, Akabaron putting down any hint of revolt.

But here it is, the first spot of land and the closest you've been to dome in what feels like a year... Everyone gathers up on deck to witness it. A burnt land in the distance, yet a range of impossibly large mountains from there and further green lands from there.

You point at the burnt fields, “Jojo, that's where it is.” His eyes stare out into the horizon. Neither of you see anything, but you know it's there. Just a few more days...

“Mrow. Sow that'sh ware it eesh.”

Your ears twitch, and you look at the bow, beyond the railing. The White Cat is there, the ferrine leader... Why... There were no ferrines on the boat. You haven't SEEN a ferrine on this boat, what-

The cat turns around, grinning wide, showing its teeth as an apparent facade glimmers away, a long tail with a bulbous end, a softly furred pink body, and a distinct alien nature emanating from it as even light seems to bend around it.

In your next blink, it's in front of you, smiling a mad, toothless smiles, <I've been looking for it for quite some time. How you humans deceive us with tricks of technology. A shame that we are not omniscient... How quickly this would end, this long cat and...>
It's speaking into your mind... A playful, yet childish voice. With a single nubby little finger, it touches your nose, sending a tingle through your body, harmless, just a playful touch.
<Mouse!>

Before you open your mouth to say a thing, the monster disappears. Jojo seems confused, startled even as much as you. “What... was that?” You whisper with a sense of impending doom.

Another day of training with Team Rocket. The days have been going by quickly. A low-level mission here and there, the expedition past the Veridian-Pewter fissure. It took around a month and a half. Kitty called it something of a “tour.” At least. That's what it had been up until the divide. From beyond there lie monsters that only get stronger and wilder as you delve into the unknown lands.

Bruise and I got in a fight again, I mentioned queenie again. I swear that he's in on it too. The fucker was always so close to her too. Thought they were friends at least, but it makes sense that it's a damn lie. Or maybe Goldie played with everyone's heads, or that mother of his. Sabrina.
She stays away from me because she knows I'm onto her. I'm onto her but no one will believe me because of the way I am.
They're all liars. I know that she existed. That fatass is real. My brain might be fucked but I'm not delusional, just paranoid.

Training goes on and no one asks me to hang out or anything. Even Sanna won't look at me anymore. Not after the ruckus I made at first. They took away that girl that smelled like death too. Who knows where she is. She went on crying “Ceru, Ceru! Where is Ceru!?” When Sanna came back from that rescue call. I heard they didn't bring anyone back and that Ceru was gone.
But when everyone just forgot about her and her friend one day, I threw a fit. Nearly got that faggot Goldenrod in my teeth.

Wanted to show him how I deal with Espers.

Boss himself told me not to talk about her anymore but it just comes out now and then. Can't really help it, I just can't think a thickheaded bitch like her could die so easily.

I'm restricted to the dorms. They don't want me going anywhere with the way I've been behaving. They want to watch me, control me. Sure, I'll let them for now but... When I see my chance, I'll rip them a new hole.
>>
>>33763497
Not ygg.

The ass-pain on both sides is hilarious. Much better than ygg's mediocre-at-best writing
>>
>>33763706
yeah, nah, I still feel pretty confident in saying fuck off with your not wanting to go to the dome thing.
It was obviously just another extension of your core "I don't wanna go home, need juntaaaa" stuff you've been doing for weeks.
>>
So what would have happened if we never did the electro-therapy? Would nothing have changed?

Or did we just not do it to begin with?
>>
Closing my eyes, meditation is the only thing that quiets the mania of my brain. Sorting out what is real, what is not, and reminding myself of who's friend and foe. Boss is a traitor, Bruise is a traitor, Goldenrod is a traitor... All of them are traitor except for that death chick. If I could find her... Yeah.

Leaving my room, I walk around the Dorms, a fuming sentry. None of the other Rockets try to stop me or ask me where I'm going. So long as I don't try to leave anyway.

I notice something, like a strange wave's washed over the place. Looking back at a Rocket I passed by, they're just standing there rigid, silent, and stunned. Keeping on like it's nothing, the worm of panic creeps back up into my mind as I find another, and another, and another just standing there blankly.

“What the hell is going on...” A stunned growl. At first there's surprise, and then I abandon my hesitation. I can leave while this is happening. Whatever it is.

Once I open the door to the dome, I notice that there's something wrong with the color of the ground, and look up to see two conflicting halves of sky. A snow-white blizard frosting up one end of the glass, the other, a raging electrical storm. In the middle, there's something flying around... and I can feel its voice just at the tip of my ears.
A psychic echo, this must be what's got the others acting all stiff, I figure... Then I think of the sky and I realize what's happening.

With a smile that could only be worn by someone in full realization that he's about to lose everything, I watch... and listen.

“... And so- those that hide from Arceus shall receive his wrath. From the most ancient elder to the youngest babe. Feel the cold of the Heavens and the storm of the Earth!”
>>
From the mutual cloud-fronts, I see the blue of the sky emerge, a frosty blu- No. It draws itself further and sheds the cloud it's hidden within to reveal the body of a bird, great, frozen, and of a terrible crystalline beauty beyond words. From beyond the dome, it screeches and frost forms over the glass, the breath of winter itself touching the wall of your city and steadily obliterating it.
From the black clouds, a great avatar clad in powerful, erratic lightning pours out, the charge skittering over the glass like countless legged spiders searching and hunting for a target.
I recognize the lightning one. It flew by after the Rocket test a few years back... It knocked out the central systems and left everyone powerless until everything was back on line.

I don't recognize the other one. And there's fucking TWO of these things?

Sweat drips from my brow and I can't help but laugh, slipping off into my own psychosis, a coping mechanism.

“Well if that's how it's going to be!” I yell at the sky like a man with nothing good left to say, a dog with a worse bark than his bite, “Then I'll just take you down to the reverse with me!”

“Bring it on you pink sunnabitch!” Flipping the thing off.

Distort this world and everything in it. If I'm going down, I'm taking everything else with me. Anything I can sink my teeth into.

Anything that I can blame.

>[Season End]
>>
>>33763720
Really?

Are you just being terrible on purpose now?

That seems like a dramatically irresponsible use of psychic power.
>>
>>33763747
Devon, you know what to do.
Shoot that bitch pink thing with a sniper rifle it never saw coming.
>>
>>33763720
they erased us from our friends minds? the cunts
>>
>>33763747
>>33763769
So Mew just teleported the Three Legendary Birds to that location?

Sure. That works.

You have fallen to depths I've never thought possible, Dranule.

Go eat a million dicks in hell.
>>
>>33763769
thanks for running prof.
>>
>>33763769
>Dome destroyed
>Status quo ended
>Most of friends probably survived
That's not actually half bad for Ceru. Terrible for the civvies and Ceru's conscience, but not bad for Ceru.
>>
>>33763769
Did we seriously only get two prompts all quest today?
>>33763842
It's going to make all the next threads (which there won't be) whinefests, though.
God forbid we even get a single happy slice of life episode in the dome.
>>
>>33763769
Oooh, woooow, sooooo exciiiitiiiiiing. Maaaaaan. I caaaaan't waaaaait fooooor neeeext tiiiiime.
>>
>>33763769
>>33763747
I like it. Looking forward to the sequel.
>>
>>33763842
I'm not entirely sure why MEW couldn't have just read our mind whenever it wanted because it is an obscenely powerful psychic, unless it was enough of an asshole to make sure Ceru knew it was her fault.

Which is the case, because Dran is an unimaginable douchebag.
>>
>>33763860
>Did we seriously only get two prompts all quest today?
Yes.
>>
>>33763727
LOOK AT THE FUCKING POSTS! ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING I HAVE BITCHED ABOUT FOR MONTHS HAS HAPPENED!

>Brainwashing away our memories?
Check.
>Acting like nothing ever fucking happened?
Check.
>Fucking everyone in the Domes being doomed because reasons?
Check.
>All of that effort being wasted, all of those threads of character development being erased for no good fucking reason?
Fucking check.

Fuck you Dran. Go and die in hell.
>>
>>33763886
yeah, if it's psychic enough to do all... that, you'd think it would be able to read our mind easy peasy.
>>
>>33763902
Technically our memories weren't erased.

The alternative was even dumber.
>>
>>33763860
Dran wanted to kill of Marine, and he wanted to kill of this quest. Id say he succeeded.
>>
>>33763905
Read our mind, steal our gear, teleport to the Dome's general location, transform itself to our appearance, etc.

Our decision to go home played no role in the Dome's fate, it was doomed the moment Mew met us.
>>
>>33763940
yeah, pretty much.
There is absolutely no reason for it to have stuck around other than to be cruel to us specifically.
>>
>>33763912
We dont remember Jojo, the smolders, or ANYONE else from our trip. PERIOD! Id say we had our minds wiped.
>>
>>33763769
Do you honestly think that what you've wrought today is good writing?

You know it's possible to drop a quest with a good end right?
>>
>>33763886
It probably did, but that doesn't help it find the Dome. It WAS kinda stupid to point it out for everyone to see, though. You'd think someone would have the foresight to lockdown information like that.

>>33763902
>Fucking everyone in the Domes being doomed because reasons?
>All of that effort being wasted, all of those threads of character development being erased for no good fucking reason?
at this point, it's just boring, I have to agree.

>>33763860
or a single Dome hunt. Just more drama.
>>
Why-... why would you purposely do the exact doomsday end of the world thing that everyone specifically said they would hate not only you, but the quest for? Prof are you honestly just truly tired of it, I can't even begin to understand why you just right after pissing the whole thread off decided to unbelievably go completely all the way?

I don't even, the fuck is wrong with you?
>>
>>33763747
Fuck you Prof. Just pandering with Devon isn't going to make everyone forget all your other screw-ups. God. Did you even THINK any of this through? This is the worst and most thoughtless you've ever been Prof. Blows out all those other times you've been a bitch out of the fucking water. Oh! Just like Marine! Wow! So poetic! See! I can do this shit too!
>>
>>33763968
Yes. All I wanted this ENTIRE jungle arc was to get back and have an episode of slice of life in the dome, and a real dome hunt.
>>
>>33763769
>we bring destruction to the dome
>no foreseeable way of realizing it other than a tiny little plot thread we spontaneously dismissed because of how unimportant it was
>this entire situation would have never happened if Dran didn't decide to railroad us on that boat

Oh, okay then.

>>33763886
All legendaries are automatically level 100, and we had no reason to go into evil mode at any point on the islands.

So there's pretty much no way we could have possibly made a roll that could have contested Mew trying to read our minds.

Ceru also didn't actually know WHERE we were or where the dome was, so when we finally pointed to our mainland, it finally knew where the dome was.
>>
>>33763962
We switched to Devon. It's still bullshit though.
>>
see you guys when the hiatus ends.
>>
>>33763982
all the mew needed was the charts and our memories.
That's it.
It could have gone in the direction we planned on going and found the mainland in a fraction of the time with no hazard to itself.

USING the information we gathered on how to get home.
>>
>>33763902
The Kanto City perspective was from the viewpoint of Devon, you know.
>>
>>33763982
It could have read our memories. It could have read Hao's memories.

It can fucking teleport anywhere. It's not as if it would have to wait for us to return to the Dome.
>>
This quest is based on Attack On Titan right? So why is everyone so surprised that the last stronghold of humanity is being destroyed by fucking huge monsters?
>>
>>33764049
they want moecatgirl SOL on deathworld.
>>
>>33764043
Hell, it didn't even have to wait for us to get past the repel grid, it just somehow KNEW where it was.
>>33764049
We expected the dome to fall this entire time.
We also expected dran to have the common decency to let us get back to the dome and have one happy thread before more bullshit happened.
>>
>>33764049
Because it was done in a way that the QM promised he wouldn't do.
>>
>>33764049
>Hey, I'm not even gonna bother reading the posts. I'm just gonna act like a smartass.
>I won't even talk about how forced, cheesy, or convoluted any of these twists are because I know I can't defend Prof at all
>Which reminds me, gotta keep sucking that cock
>>
>>33764049
Nobody is surprised? Everyone is just pissed at Dran for being a faggot.
>>
All this pure vitriol over losing a character really shows how awful his writing is, right? Totally terrible that he made you feel things.
>>
>>33764015
Don't forget astronomy

>>33764049
because the "huge monsters" deliberately did things slowly and stupidly just to increase SUFFERRING levels. Just Ceru/Marine's memories and some astronomy charts would be enough to find the Dome.
>>
>>33764096
If he made us feel things, we'd be sad, or angry marine is dead.
Instead of being angry his writing is contrived.
>>
>>33764049
We're upset about how it happened, like Marine's death.

It's a cavalcade of shitty writing and forced drama.

And I will haunt Dran throughout all his quests, warning everyone from participating in his next couple failures.
>>
>>33764049
The potential is being wasted in favor of Ygg wanking himself off.

He also wants to end the quest quicker since everyone is so fucking against him.
>>
>>33764049
Who's surprised? No one.

Who's angry? Quite a lot of people, I guess.

>>33764096
See
>>33763408
>>33763551
Marine isn't an incredible character. She was likable enough that we didn't want to get away from her (like, say, a certain Araraki). And then she died for cheap drama and a quip from Akabaron about her death.

I think it's pretty obvious that Prof is trolling the fuck out of everyone here.

He literally took every single thing that has been complained about most over the life of the thread and made sure to hit every single one of them like a checklist and it was fucking brilliant.

Bravo, Prof, bravo.

>>33764096

Cracking open the can of worms now.

Comments, Questions, Concerns.

>The Good.

Also, thank you all for playing this. I know I haven't been the best, I've tried to improve and consistently fallen into the same conventions as before.

I'm also sorry that the early threads have been misleading to the point that you misconstrued this quest for the two leading contributors of for the basis of this quest.

Attack on Titan and Pokemon.

In any case, you guys have been great to a point.

Sometime in the future then Rangers.
>>
>>33764096
He writes like shit and Marine's death was fucking pointless and BAD. AND FORCED. He did the characters no favor and she went out like a bitch. YOU DONT DO THAT TO A FAN FAVORITE. I mean come the fuck on, prof could have at least made her death awesome, or cool. Not oh this thing gets a wish and it wants to fuck you, in whatever way possible.
>>
>>33764149
Oh yeah. There's no way he could have ever thought that anything that happened this thread was actually cool or interesting. No, he's just a spiteful bastard. God, such a spiteful bastard.

But I'd fucking take that over him just being THIS legitimately incompetent. Because if he's dumb enough to actually pat himself over the back for all this, he's never ever going to admit he's done anything wrong at all.

Don't give me that shit.

Attack on Titan hasn't had a major character die in quite some time. Nor has it had all the walls be blown up by gods.

You can't be so blind as to think people are just objecting as to what happened, and not how it happened.

I pray that in time you will become less stupid and realize what an atrocity this thread was, and have Celebi just go "you know what? Fuck all this biz." But you won't.

And that's why you have no place being a QM.
>>
>>33764178
>I'm also sorry that the early threads have been misleading to the point that you misconstrued this quest for the two leading contributors of for the basis of this quest.

Fuck you Prof. Fuck you and your holier-than-thou attitude. You'll never fucking change. You'll never feel any fucking shame.

I've seen you do this before. You get off one line that's supposed to somehow prove you're in the right, then you proceed to ignore everything else. It's like you're completely incapable of responding to criticism positively and actually applying it to improve yourself.

By making sure that Overhuman and Dead Last Ninja die from lack of participation before he can drag them to contrived cliffhangers as well?

Even though it seems like that stuff is pretty expected in Overhuman and I'm perfectly fine with terrible things happening to the cast of Dead Last Ninja.
>>
>>33764338
Not unsurprising, considering Prof says shit like this
>I'm also sorry that the early threads have been misleading to the point that you misconstrued this quest for the two leading contributors of for the basis of this quest.
I mean, wow. How smarmy can you get? It's just unbelievable to think that he might really, sincerely think this.
>>
>>33764178
Would it be possible to play as Devon in the next season? I miss his perspective.

>>33764434
The worst part is that Attack on Titan really cooled off on the "kill everything" once the author got a solid cast established.
>>
>>33764178
Ygg, why do you not give us the slice of life that is your strong suit.
Why do you always place obstacles between us and it?
>>
>>33764377
I actually liked the characters and how they interacted together a LOT. My heart went out to Marine and her trials and tribulations. Her interactions with Ceru were amazing and it was a lot of fun to play in this quest and watch them go on awesome adventures together.
SO i was invested in Marine as a character. Dran proceeds to kill her off like a bitch. All of that character development and emotional investment from me was utterly wasted.

Gods damn i have felt this pissed in a long time.
>>
>>33764468
He wants to be hardcore and edgy, but just doesn't get that he's awful at it.

This entire thread failed to make me feel anything but irritation and maybe some disappointment.
>>
>>33764361
I just don't get why people would play with somebody they don't like or trust.

I was invested in Bleach too but it got to the point where it wasn't' worth it anymore. I dropped that manga during the Quincy invasion and haven't looked back. Should have done it a lot sooner to be honest.

Prof isn't changing how he does things. You guys are just raising your blood pressure and getting bitter.
>>
>>33764409
Overlimit is already pretty out there. I swear the mc must have the grim reaper living in his cock or something because fucking someone is the only thing that makes them die faster than liking them.

Asher's mild affection is more deadly than his pyromancy.

>>33764497
>He wants to be hardcore and edgy, but just doesn't get that he's awful at it.
God. He already admitted that once and said he'd do a brighter tone. Then completely shits on that. He makes a lot of promises, but he never follows up on them.

The Vandenreich arc has been great.
>>
>>33764489

Now I'm being told the opposite. I just can't find a proper medium with you guys I guess. Besides that, ever anon has a personal preference.

>>33764228
For Ceru to grow up. And she would've been fine if you trusted her.

Also, the electric conditioning allowed Ceru to retain consciousness. I explicitly stated that it wouldn't make her immune to the damage, just some of the effects.

>>33764235
Hard to say with everything that I've been told. Some things already being established in the story...

I'll say though, i did try to increase the quality of prose to make combat a bit more engaging though I think I've gone off on the wrong definition. My thought of "engaging" must've been more to the point of being more spectacular or sensational, heart pounding. Though it seems what you're all going by has to do with more player economy.

There's a problem with the last fight though, and the problem is that it was an epic level that couldn't necessarily be taken by just a quartet.
And thus limiting the real amount of influence Ceru had up until she brought out her blizzard.

There's a lot wrong, and I have to read more books. I've also been procrastinating hellblazer. That charges up my prose a lot more than anything else though.

>>33764271
If I act cranky, you all yell at me. If I act patient I'm holier-than-thou.

>>
>>33764302
I do wrong by not knowing what I can do right and thus fuck everything up even if I think I'm doing alright.
That's kind of circular, but yeah. I know I'm kind of a cheese at plots, and my combat sucks because I've most certainly not read a lot of action books outside of Snow Crash and my only other fallback are action movies, anime, and manga.

I'm going to try to improve it in the future. Prose isn't quite enough.

Also, admitting mistakes in the middle of a quest is hard.

I'm DMing without an actual rulebook here so if what I say goes I need to stick to my guns. So when challenged I've always had to deflect it.
>>
>>33764589
>If I act cranky, you all yell at me. If I act patient I'm holier-than-thou.
You know what you need to do?

List down your mistakes. Admit you made mistakes. Fuck. Rewrite all this.

>The problem is that when I've engaged in the past I was told that I was directing and influencing decisions. People didn't like it and so I stopped.
Do you know why people said that? Because you made them paranoid and scared to say anything.

You know what people are fine with? Having you confirm their thoughts and worries.

Dude, are you literally autistic?

We had no reason to trust Marine, because we had no reason to trust you. And still don't.

Because you're an awful QM.

It wasn't deep, it wasn't meaningful, no one learned anything, it was you realizing how much everyone justifiably mistrusted you, and you deliberately decided to take advantage of that mistrust to make us hate you more.
>>

That's not the problem. You don't need "pretty words" to make combat actually enjoyable. You just have to make it smart.

>>
>>33764589
>she would've been fine if you trusted her.
NO. FUCK YOU. you are NOT allowed to bring this up.

EVERYONE trusts marine. NOBODY trusted -you-.

Because we knew -you- would kill her off even if we chose to save her.
And look at that, we were right.

-you- are the one people don't trust. We can't trust the characters until we can trust -you-.

You must address this, or admit you were going to kill marine all along regardless.

Prof. I could forgive you if you just admitted that you were wrong and that you regret what you did in this thread. You don't even need to do more than that. All you need to do is show that you understand you did a crappy job by killing Marine and that you promise that you'll try and learn from this mistake. I won't even get angry if you screw up again. All you need to do is apologize and show you've got a little humility in you.

We knew Marine could breath underwater, had the gear, and was immune to electricity.

What we also knew was that the QM was a hack who had decided that Marine must die.

And he did not disappoint.
>>
>>33764688
I was the one that brought it up, i said, a whole 40 mins before hand that prof was fucking with our emotions. I voted to blizzard the beast to death three times. I fucking Gods Damned knew Dran was going to do this and say what he is saying now.

YOU WANTED TO KILL MARINE YOU BASTARD!

Fuck you!
>>
>>33764589
>For Ceru to grow up.
people dieing does not make people grow up. It just creates an emotional reaction that they have to deal with. There was plenty of emotional reactions to go through just with Marine's refusal to return.

>And she would've been fine if you trusted her.
I didn't vote to save her, but I'm on the fence about believing you on this. Considering the "death throes" bullshit you pulled, anyway. Death throes are random spasms of the body. No intention in aiming, no focus or direction. More importantly, THE MORE COMPLEX THE CREATURE, THE LESS LIKELY THEY WILL UNDERGO DEATH THROES. It's a biological thing. Check out a youtube video of a snake head that still bites or something.

Point is, it requires coordination to use the various organs needed to produce the beam AND aim, it's nowhere near as simple as a bite, and even then, that's nigh impossible for a beast of that size.
>>
>>33764589
I don't think I would have been nearly as mad if Marine was just doomed to die as
>For Ceru to grow up.
seems to indicate. But then you had to go and post
>And she would've been fine if you trusted her.
which is just rage bait. People are mad because it's impossible to trust the characters when the QM is untrustworthy. They're going to be madder because the way you said it makes it sound like you're lying through your teeth.

I have to wonder if you're doing this on purpose, because this is almost formulaic at this point. I can't even be mad. This is just so much that it's overloading me and I'm giggling. I can feel the acid in my stomach and I'm light-headed like I'm mad, but I don't feel mad emotionally. I'm amused, laughing like a child, with only a couple physical symptoms of anger.

This is like going to a show that you'd been really hyped for and then watching your favorite actor shit his pants on stage. It's like getting on a huge roller coaster and then having it break down and make fart sounds while it did it. There's just no way to respond to this but to look at it and crack up and wonder if it's all a bad joke.

You went over the SP on the things offered and the purchase of blizzard. I figured that you'd need both at a point so I didn't mind it especially with the time involved.

Also, it got off two charge beams before using discharge and then the Hyper Beam.
Special Atk up stage 2.

>>33764656
I didn't realize how bad the distrust was for me. But what am I going to do?
Say that trying to save her would kill her? When she was in that water perfectly fine from last thread?
Not something I can really do unless you all just want spark notes for every decision and what happens next.

If it'd please you, I could list the outcome of every single decision next to the option so that no one is surprised. You could pick the exact way that you'd like the story to go.

>>33764669
I think I should read Joker Quest then and take some notes because I haven't been too smart about that apparently.

>>33764821
Ah, this concern about death throes. THe Lagiacrus kind of looks like an alligator, when I wrote "Death Roll" I meant that it was doing that horridly powerful roll that they do. It did this to detach the hapoons and the mast stuck to it, though the mast made the wound worse.

When it realized that it was going to die, it discharged and used hyperbeam on the first thing it saw.
The hyperbream used up the last of its vitality and put it past the critical condition.

>>33764636
I kind of expected that. I guess I was foolish to think that anyone wouldn't call me a liar.

why did you even bring up a second "stop blizzard" prompt after we voted to blizzard the thing in the first place?

Why do you add "MARINE IS IN DANGER" segments when we know she's not in danger, and the only reason to include one is a meta-game "I'm going to kill marine now" reason?

Why do you give us only two prompts the entire thread, and make one to cancel out the other one?

...Stop. Fucking. Lying.
>I didn't realize how bad the distrust was for me.
The only way that could possibly be true was if you weren't actually reading anything but the prompts, which is shit QMing. It was explicitely stated multiple times.

It was also stated that we knew Marine should be fine, but we figured that due to you being a hack, the combination of our own Blizzard trapping her, as well as the monster pulling some bullshit, would have resulted in a contrived situation that would have meant her demise.

Again, this was said, multiple times.

Ok. I'm seeing a few possibilities for this mess.

>You genuinely don't understand the state of your players and how they think of you and how that influences choices, even when they're saying it in thread, and accidentally constructed the perfect option to bait Marine's death
I don't think it's possible for someone to be this stupid and simultaneously run the quests you have. Maybe it's possible that this is aspergers or something, I'm not a specialist, but just god damn. I hope it's not this because I'll feel bad that everyone is screaming at a mentally deficient person.
>You understand perfectly and were going to kill off Marine no matter what, but don't want people to be mad so you're trying to lie about it.
You're a dick. You want people to like you and you might not even realize just how much of a dick you're being because you think it's for our benefit or the good of the story or something, but you're being a dick.
>You are purposefully constructed the worst thing possible here and responded to player anger in the worst possible way in attempting to piss off as many people as possible before the hiatus in order to kull the population for some reason

This leads back to the problem of people not trusting you. There were other times where, logically, nothing should have gone wrong. And people voted for that and you still made things go wrong. No one can trust "logic" anymore. The majority want to play it safe by taking the safest looking options. Anons like
>>33765234
believe you already had it planned out from the beginning. There were many ways you could have had Marine killed. You always talk about how strong this opponent is, so it can't be helped that we can't do much against it on our own. But the same holds true for Marine, in this case; even near death, we can't be sure she'd have survived without help. You could spin it any way you want after the vote takes place. You have the ability to do that. And that's why there's so much distrust for you.
>>
>>33765072
>>33765146
Alright then:

>Discharge
>Paralysis
It says 30% chance. Factoring the sea water, I can see why you made it 100%, but shouldn't the electro-therapy help against that? Special Attack only affects damage, not Status Ailment chance, not to mention that the blue things were broken.

>Hyper Beam
I hope you mean that after it used it, someone on the surface killed it.

I don't mean that nothing bad should happen: I'm just surprised that it was already dying. I thought it could go another round, even after getting rid of the mast.

Some people would climb on and carve place bombs or something, while others would ring the gong. The wasted effort saving Marine would mean that the Lag would free itself from the blizzard and the fight would continue from there, instead of it ending already.

>>33765160
Economy of action. The rest of the "troopers" doing what they do, the [Kanto-City] part -was- pre-written. The essence of that part wouldn't have changed whether or not Marine was alive and I wanted Ceru and whoever else accompanying her there by this [Season End]

A lot was rushed to meet the deadline for Overhuman, admittedly. Wish called for the lack of prompts and the multiple skips.

>>33765183
I saw that, and after the decision was made I stuck to my guns and wrote what was going to happen.
Should I throw an arbitrary twist to what I was going to right to avoid being predicted?
Sometimes I do. But this is something that was going to happen if you went into the water against better judgement.

>>33765336
IC, Marine would've chosen any of those proposed options. from an IC perspective, Marine did just fine in electrified water before and being put back in shouldn't phase her.
Part of the issue is the meta, another part the setting, and the last part splitting up the fight - again.

I don't know, I'd be pretty pissed at having the Dome decide the best solution was to make everyone forget about us, since that just seems like a tremendous waste of energy for no real gain that couldn't be gotten from making Cerulean and Marine symbols or whatever.

And the way the Dome really was destroyed, with Mew going into maximum overdouche would also have been irritating.

That doesn't answer the question at all.
WHY do a prompt that is

There's no reason for this, and all it does is give the players more chance to fuck up their original plan.
>>
>>33765618
>I can't do it. Not now anyway.
Can we ACTUALLY discuss what will happen?

Prof. Bring back the dice and stop using the monster's level as an excuse. Just start giving bonuses for Cerulean's natural strengths and circumstantial bonuses (like having a boat and a full team). And rewrite the entire fight. Actually get all those other hunters involved in the action.
>>
>>33765618
>I'm not lying though
Yes, yes you are. And because you lie like this, people do not trust you.

IF PEOPLE ARE MAKING META-DECISIONS BECAUSE THEY THINK YOU WILL KILL THE CHARACTER, FUCKING ASSUAGE THEIR FEARS SO THEY MAKE IN CHARACTER DECISIONS.
>>
>>33765182
You want to know what would make people not think you're a liar? Not making important decisions that are blatantly able to generate any

This is like if you pulled out a weird coin; on one side is an ass with a face drawn on it and on the other side is a head with a tail pinned to it, and then you proceeded to say that we need to flip heads to not lose Marine. Everyone sits down and discusses which side they think is heads. Some say that that the assface is heads because it's a face. Some think that the tailhead is heads because it's got a head. Others think that assface is tails because it's got an ass and that's the tailend and others think that the tailface is tails because it has a literal tail on it.

So then you flip the coin and it lands on tailhead and you say it's tails and kill Marine. Everyone flips their shit and you say that if we'd picked assface, then she'd have totally lived and we can totally trust you to not lie to us about the results of a coinflip with a coin that had ambiguous sides tailor made for swindling.

What >>33765681 said.

If you don't want people to think you're a liar, don't set up votes where either option can easily generate whatever outcome you want.

You could have EASILY killed her off if we'd trusted her.
>Oh, she got knocked out by the mast when the monster spun and drifted into your blizzard which encased her mouth and gills in Ice and she suffocated. If you'd stopped the blizzard, you wouldn't have killed Marine.
or
>Marine got her legs ripped off by the shit falling into the water or the monster slashing and biting around like crazy. She could have totally been gotten out of there, but you didn't dive in so she got finished off
or any number of other things. They're all just as likely as the monster suddenly deciding Ceru is PRIORITY TARGET and hyper beaming at her, forcing Marine to push her out of the way.

People didn't trust you and believed that you would make all the options result in death. There were zero meaningful indicators one way or the other which one was right and they were all equally likely to kill off Marine. People voted for the one that would make Ceru less of an uncaring asshole, and you made that one result in death.
>>
>>33765776
>I'll see about writing up an alternative ending on some of my free time. Hopefully one that's a bit more compelling.
YES THANK YOU! make marine survive and honestly try to improve your relation with us payers and I will forgive you, maybe the others will too
>>
>>33765776
Prof, here are the major issues that need to be fixed.
1: marine's death. She died because of blatant failures of QM trust, and would never have died if you allowed us to act on in-character information or answered our questions about "Wouldn't she be entirely OK since she has gills?".

2. dome plotholes. Why did the psychic need us to take them there? why didn't they just read our mind? why didn't they just teleport all the way to the dome? How can they teleport all the mythical birds but not themselves? How did they skip straight into the dome before we even breached the repel barrier?

3. actually 1 and 2 were the major ones.

Return to the former system of rolling multiple dice. Contested dice would have a gap of 10 or more counted as a crit.

Use only ONE dice for the enemy. Have the players roll multiple dice. 7? Maybe increase that when tenacity reaches 20+ (add another dice for every additional 10 above 10 tenacity). The old system was fine.

I decided Mew's persona from thread ~5.

There was a plot thread that had him fucking with everyone pretty bad on a top secret rocket mission that could've happened.
Then nobody wanted to see espers ever again and I decided to switch directions some.

So, to spoil out a plot thread that can no longer occur...
Ceru, Goldie, and two others find an abandoned lab on some island off of the old cinnabar. Mew's lingering around there for shits as the team looks for some scraps of its genetic code for boss.

Goldie's head gets fucked with and starts to slowly go (more) insane.

The team finds a sample after fighting off the delusions and some real monsters, returning to the dome with Mew in tow.

Goldie breaks away from his mom and evolves into Alakazam, threatening dome security at once as an out of control esper. Mew's behind it all along. Just as daage control is completed and Goldie's sane again and Sabrina dead/alive. Mew summons up the harbingers of kanto's end-times.

>>33766200
Serebyi is pretty nice, even if she's trying not to pick a side.
>>
>>33766183
Like I said, I'm not a fan of contested rolls.
>>
>>33766183
We rolled close. What brought us down was the critical 1, which wouldn't be a critical anymore given the new system.

Then there's the idea of increasing the number of dice we can roll when our Tenacity is up. Although, we don't need to limit it to that. Have Charm increase the number of dice we can roll for Charm related acts and Tenacity for actions related to battle.
>>
>>33766212
damnit ygg, you could have had us get home fine and THEN did this. You would have had a much more satisfying end to the island arc -and- you would hold true to your "no more psychic bullshit on the islands" promise.

>There was a plot thread that had him fucking with everyone pretty bad on a top secret rocket mission that could've happened.

Did a genuine fucking spit-take. That you don't seem to understand what you just did is astounding.
>>
>>33766212
well, if mew's fucking with us, then mew's fucking with us.

Hopefully ceru is intelligent enough to recognize the major plotholes like "wait, why did it need to come all the way out here, couldn't it have just read my mind?" and "why did it even need me if it could just find the city repel or not?"

Ceru doesn't seem to be to blame here, even from her own perspective, and I don't want her blaming herself for this.
>>
>>33766212
That's a good plot thread.

What people were angry about was getting messed around with so much with Ni'Abras. He rolled a lot of criticals, he disabled our Evil moves, and our first attack did no notable damage to him (Crossroad Killing and he wasn't affected at all even after getting hit).

Then there's the mind reading. You should have allowed for us to roll to resist it.
>>
>>33766212
So Serebyi self-identifies as female, and Mew as male?

How about Jirachi, Manaphy, and Victini?
>>
>>33766212
so...you never intended to have Dome hunts. Ever. Now that's just disappointing.

As for the plot itself...it's actually okay, if you just had the goddamn Esper powerlevel chart before such a thing happens.
The problem with "espers are bullshit" is that we never knew how strong any fresh esper could be. Special case for Goldie, who would have gone from literally teleport and telepathy only to a goddamn Alakazam.

This frustrates the players in a way that is not IC at all, because THEY should know, either from common knowledge or ranger classes against esper pokemon.
>>
>>33766212
Go read the last half of HQR. Make sure to read all of the player posts, they're important to this lesson.

Once you've done that, you should be absolutely exasperated by how paranoid everyone is about Loki.

Yeah....you also don't really know how to handle mind reading very well, Prof. You should have just relegated it to surface thoughts (like with Aura) or having in-depth readings only possible when someone is tired and defeated. Don't bring it up otherwise.

Don't introduce complicated mechanics like mind reading unless you're smart enough to use it well. A story's depth is limited by the writer's ability.

Look i don't give a fuck. I haven't given a fuck about anything you posted since you killed Marine off. I cant get invested again after something like that. That was horrible.

I cannot get invested in any of your characters because i cannot trust that they will be there in the next thread. All you had to do to end the Islands arc was get everyone to Kanto intact. THEN you could have Mew pull whatever psychic bullshit you wanted it to. Hell if you are going to kill off a main character, then AT LEAST MAKE THE DEATH SOMETHING THAT WILL STICK WITH THE QUEST!! MAKE IT MEANINGFUL. If you off them like candy your player wont trust or care about anything you do in the future.

What makes it worse is the fact that you actually killed her off when we were trying to save her. I was heavily invested in Marines story. I enjoyed her as a character, she was a good best friend. MAKE HER DEATH NEVER HAVE HAPPENED, YOU PRICK! I really don't care whatever else you do. Do fucking not kill off the only reasons i have for following this quest, ESPECIALLY not in such a horribly worthless manner Dran.

There are times when Prof really should have just forgotten about how he'd think an action would play out and met the players' expectations, yeah. Well if you guys'd want to play it despite knowing, I could try to figure out a way to angle it in the retcon.

Though the biggest problem would probably the reaction of the dome after what they're doing along with the arrival of "Outsiders." Well, could be fun to write.

And so the Island arc would end without any additional esper BS.

But- then it would be the occasional Mew antics and so forth and an astronomical possibility of finding Eubrana and getting them involved.

>>33766312
Kind of dipped out a bit on gen 4, but Jirachi wouldn't really have a gender identity considering how long it sleeps between wishes.
Manaphy, i'll need to look up its relevance.
Victini... I'm not even sure where it'd fit in all this yet.
>>
>>33766408
Prof writes puzzle fights like the puzzle is a massive polkadot blanket and there's wrong pieces that still fit mixed in with it but you can't tell because it's all just fucking dots everywhere.
>>
>>33766420
never heard of hollow quest before
>>
>>33766439
No no no, you can't do the same scenario now that we know.

You have to change it enough that we don't know! Also you already blew your mew load!

Have something entirely unrelated when we visit cinnibar labs. Like paras zombies.
>>
>>33766450
Hollow Quest Redux is older than Hero Quest and was being called HQR before HQ came around.
>>

>Though the biggest problem would probably the reaction of the dome after what they're doing along with the arrival of "Outsiders." Well, could be fun to write.
....Prof. Dude. What. That's the whole goddamn POINT. That's what people want to read about, damnit, not legendaries fucking everything up.
>>
>>33766465

That's possibly even worse than mew.
>>
>>33766465
Oh FUCK no. If there's one thing I want to see less than espers, it's paras.
>>
>>33766485
that's why I picked them, ygg.
They're an absolutely horrible thing.

Hopefully, though, we can wear masks or something to not get infected. As otherwise that would just be quest end right there.

>You're getting your sayaka back
THANK YOU FOR FINALY BEING DIRECT WITH US and for admitting to a mistake and fixing it. That took a lot of guts as a QM to own up to that mistake and give the players what they deserved to see happen. Progress Dran, you might have just made some about getting that trust back.
>>
>>33766485
How about fossilized pokemon?

Though maybe have someone other than Ceru and Marine be in charge because all the ancient pokemon are part rock.
>>

>>33766439
yeah, I actually feel really good about prof agreeing to a small retcon, and thus admitting some mistake.

>You're getting your sayaka back
Alright. Good. Still a pretty fruity response, but it's straight and clear enough for me.

>Eubrana
I always thought Eubrana would become relevant again.

>But- then it would be the occasional Mew antics
As long as there are ways to avoid simply getting our mind fucked, that's good.

There's no real problem about revealing plot points. I personally enjoy the reactions and interactions of the characters.

>What light novels would you recommend?
To be honest, I can't really recommend any right at this moment since most of the CURRENT LNs I read are untranslated. So unless you can read Japanese, I can't really bring to mind anything appropriately recent.

THIS! I've been running this scenario through my head for weeks and it's such a great plot point. So much more interesting than mew bringing down heaven's wrath on the dome. Although the wrath thing is cool I really think It should have come into play after we get to the dome so we can have those reunions.
>>
>>33766439
>You're getting your sayaka back

Well i feel significantly better Dran. Thank you. Please do not kill off a fan favorite like that again.

Also a tip. If you really feel that a character that people love and hang out with all of the time needs to die, then please make the death WORTH something to the overall plot. Like make it a part of a heroic sacrifice that helps us win the day and destroy the bad guys.

Don't just have them get axed for no reason.
>>
>>33766482
I didn't know. I heard a lot of screaming about not having them at the dome and dropping them off elsewhere and there's still the fact that Ceru might know too much at this point for the Silph President' satisfaction.

I honestly read almost every one of your posts and it's hard to sift through absolutely everything coherently. It's why at a point I start filtering, tuning out, picking out parts of what I can do, and so forth.

There's a lot to take in and the oversaturation is hard to work through, run the quest, and keep up with my actual life.

>>33766521
I know. But Jirachi is also asleep for 500~ years or so. Can't think anything like that has much of a personality.

>>33766550
Well the outsiders suddenly showing up on a fuckhuge repel-tech enabled ship would actually have a pretty good reception if it saved them from disaster.
>>
>>33766584
Well, it was to save Ceru.

But I see what you're saying.
>>
Here's one way that would make the Dome Breaking okay to me.

After shattering the Dome, Mew and the Legendary Birds just straight up leave, leaving the Repel generators strong enough to keep the wildlife at bay.

Because their goal wasn't to kill everyone, but to make sure no one could hide from the judgment of Arceus.

By which I mean, "making sure everyone gets mutated into an inhuman state by the M-Virus"

That puts things at more of a slow burn than outright devastation.
>>
>>33766591
I'm not so into either the legendaries OR the outsiders meeting the dome myself.

I've been waiting for reunions. That's my hot ticket. Whether before or after the dome is destroyed doesn't matter a huge amount.

I would hammer on about slice of life and days off, but apparently you don't like writing that so I can't really suggest it any more.
It -is- one of your strengths though.
>>
>>33766591
Eh, I'll actually trust your judgment about what to do with the Dome and stuff.

In this case, it's discussed because it is a relevant thing and something to work around, instead of destiny conspiring to never have us deal with the issue.

alright, fine. Like >>33766618 said, I'm really in this for the Ranger life and Dome hunts. We'd deal with the Silph conspiracies just for that.

Alright. Now that things are settling. I like that you're being more open right now, Prof. I didn't enjoy the QM vs Players mentality these past threads. It's better to try and get into the mindset of being a collaborator in the story. As players, we respond to the situations you set up, but as the QM, you also need to respond to the desires and expectations the readers have set up.
>>

I don't feel better because I know he's just going to lie to us about something again.

We all know that Marine having any chance of survival was an outright falsehood. Prof was going to kill her and say the other option was right no matter what we did.

He's a malicious manipulator and he's only caving on this because of this outpouring of hate was probably one of the largest in quest history and could have gotten worse and killed his other quests if he didn't cave. Mark my words, he will lie and twist and wheedle situations into bullshit conclusions and if he thinks he can get away with it then, you will see no concessions or admittance of wrongdoing. Hell, he still hasn't even admitted that he did wrong. All he's done is begrudgingly agree to give Marine back while staring at an angry mob.

His post >>33766604 shows that he still doesn't get it at all and is trying to make excuses. He's like a snake wearing a suit. There's nothing in there.
>>
>>33766645
hey, its the only light novels I have links of. he doesn't have to read 'em if he doesn't want to.

>>
>>33766609
THAT...would be cool too. The problem is that Ceru would still angst about THIS IS ALL MY FAULT, while Devon goes NOT IMPORTANT EVERYONE IS A TRAITOR, and everyone will want to play Devon until Ceru gets over it.
>>
>>33766644
We'll be back to our old state of mind if he fucks up again.
>>
>>33766687
Ceru should just not fall for mew's troll.
that would avoid all the "this is all my fault" plotpoints if someone points out, and she understands, that it was doing all that to fuck with her and didn't need to at all.
>>
>>33766680
It's....a small step, for sure. A really small step since he's not writing it out, but just having some other character intervene to change it all. But I'm a little hopeful. Even if Dran is still too prideful to say he's made a mistake, he's starting to respond more to what people are asking of him.
>>
>>33766706
>>33766687
I just don't really want to see Ceru get into a "angsty MC" phase. It's almost never done satisfactorily; current writers are just too heavy-handed and disconnected with their readers. It's like, fucking tsunderes. The first time they came up? I liked them. But too many writers think that it's okay to raise up the "tsun" to abusive levels.
>>
>>33766746
we've got enough to angst about with the dome falling, without thinking we're to blame.
>>
>>33766644

>>
>>33766746
Cerulean isn't angsty but I'm pretty sure she's legit depressed.

>>
>>33766774
yeah, that's not the best.
I think our ranger training is falling apart without regular psychic maintenance.
>>
>>33766644
He waited until we were already tired and most had left.

And I think some of us are still wary.

But yeah, I don't think anyone is going to chase him across his other quests like the furies of yore, so you can count that as a win in his book.
>>
>>33766651
I lost my way at some point. I used to always believe that I knew who I was writing for and worked with that.

I've been a bit selfish and withdrawn lately to be honest. And indeed, there's been a player-QM disconnect. Started with my fucking up on numerous point. But then it continued with the incessant outcry at every further hint of it making me more withdrawn to the point that I put up a wall of silence and just keep droning on writing with you guys making decisions with hardly any word from my point.

I still don't want to hold hands, 'cause that's 2lewd4me.
But I do want to talk to you guys. I used to have fun doing that.

But then I'm told to shut up and I do it. Then I'm told to talk and I'm just not willing to open up my heart again.
>>
>>33766678
morally questionable science and leaders, keikaku everywhere, action teens with powers.

I think Prof could probably get something out of it.
>>
>>33766714
It's not about pride. This is all about control. A person who is prideful would not produce something like this. They would take pride in their work and not write this trash.

He set out to make everyone upset, got them way more pissed than he'd planned, and realized that he needs to make some small concessions if he wants to continue to hurt them in the future.
>>
>>33766774
>>33766788
>Also so traumatized she's developed a hostile splinter personality.
>I think our ranger training is falling apart without regular psychic maintenance.
I don't think you understand. Giovanni DELIBERATELY creates Rocket Mode, and you're considered graduated from trainee status when Rocket Mode is permanently on(or in Devon's case, when Giovanni says he's ready).
>>
>>33766796
it's a simple lack of trust/ outcry and resentment feedback loop. It's got to be broken on both sides.
I'll try to provide in-character tactically sound choices, but you have to make it not seem like you are going to use them as a trap option.

That's the only reason I wasn't hammering on blizzard and arguing hard for it, for instance.
>>
>>33766796
Don't bother. You're scum. Just go write a fucking novel or something.
>>
>>33766796
>But then I'm told to shut up and I do it. Then I'm told to talk and I'm just not willing to open up my heart again.
Why were you told to "shut up"? If you're talking about the times when people have told you to shut up and write the update, then they were probably being playful about their impatience. That or they were feeling terse with you, depending on how stressful the situation was.

No one wants you to confuse people. No one wants to feel scared to make any decisions. It's alright to talk and just chat in general, but if you're going to make a comment about the current situation, it's better to try and be reassuring. Don't try to act antagonistic.

At this point, it still doesn't seem like you're willing to completely own up to any mistakes, but let's just put that aside for now. Just try to be diplomatic about criticisms and show that you're willing to accept and try to change from them.
>>
>>33766838
nah. Rocket mode is pretty blatantly faulty and unable to complete simple objectives outside of basic survival, and even then fails enormously due to lacking simple tactics.

It's an error in rocket training, not the goal.
>>
>>33766838
No, I don't think you understand. Marine doesn't have anything like that going on in her head.

The reason Rocket Mode Cerulean is insane and makes no sense is because it's not supposed to exist.

It was created to deal with the vast trauma and strain that comes from the Cadet training process, and then it absorbed the memories that Sabrina erased, and probably Ni'Aras's programming, compounded with the vicious insincts we got from Crytten, which is really just a nasty beast.
>>
>>33766857
I'm working off what Prof vaguely confirmed back in the Q&A session, which was directly after Nar-kage. I could be outdated, and Prof may not have been specific enough.

It's also possible that Rocket Mode isn't complete, which is why its an idiot.
>>
>>33766796
People became terse with you the more liberties you took with the story. Stop trying to control every action and thought our character has. No one wants you to use "but it's IC" as an excuse after you manhandle us to get to that point. Stop "stacking the odds" against us all the time. All that does is let you control the flow of battle and prevent us from actually acting until you decide to bring in a deus ex machina.
>>
>>33766796
thanks for opening up and noticing the growing gap Dran, now things actualy have the chance to improve, the story could get more fun, we as players could feel like players again instead of spectators. and you can be our friend instead of the liar that many of us were afraid you had become.
I was thinking that I had had enough with this quest after losing marine but it looks like you finaly listened to your playerbase when shit hit the fan.
>>
>>33766855
Anon, I've been saying that I fucked up.
How is that not admitting to fault?

That said, I was told to shut up and accused of influencing decisions in the way that I wanted them to go.

So I stopped talking.

>>33766879
Marine wasn't in the program long enough.
It's a mix of dealing with trauma and becoming Gio's lapdog.
>>
>>33766799
Which is why I don't recommend it for him. I don't think he can handle it himself.
>>
>>33766879
yeah. It seems like a ceru-unique package of trauma, mental programming from psykers, and pokemon instincts.

>>33766886
The reason rocket mode isn't complete is because it is supposed to be a -part- of us. That's why it fails at all higher reasoning, tactical, and judgement issues.

We're supposed to be able to do all the rocket mode stuff at the drop of a hat without interfering with our base personality. That it cordoned off into a separate thing means it is malfunctioning.
>>
>>33766898
There's influencing decisions how you want them to go, and then there's clearing up player apprehensions and questions.

Besides, people got angry this thread about you influencing decisions. That's what they claim the second
>wait, don't blizzard?
prompt was about.
>>
>>33766796
Dran let me say this. You are a good writer. I loved every single moment we had adventuring with Marine, even if your combat writing could use a bit of work, the character interactions are clearly your strongest point, because they are made of solid gold. The characters that you have written keep me invested in this quest. Its why i am so angry about Marine's pointless death.

Like i said earlier, if you want to continue to pull this Esper horseshit over on us, Honestly as long as awesome stuff happened i really wouldn't care. I was only mildly irritated with the CRITS HAX in the Ni'Aras fight, but that's the dice and shit happens. I didn't care during the Tentacruel fight because well, we tried something stupid based upon our own faulty understanding of the situation.

Killing off MArine like that was just mean spirited. If she really had to die, or has to die at some point because the universe hates her, then make her death meaningful.
>>
>>33766898
>Anon, I've been saying that I fucked up.
You actually haven't said that. There's a difference between saying you'll do something and directly saying that you've made a mistake.

Stop making comments or prompts that would make people doubt their decisions. You're free to comment to help out and reinforce ideas, but no one wants you breaking down their ideas.
>>

>>
>>33766898
>trauma and lapdogness
Yep. It seems like our heavy duty training fucked up and made a splinter personality.

>>
>>33766898
>Anon, I've been saying that I fucked up.
No, you haven't. You've begrudgingly agreed to retcon something that pissed off people so badly that several were swearing vengeance upon your other quests and many more were just pissed off.

You didn't admit fault. You didn't say you did something wrong. You played this like a kid who is only apologizing because he got caught and it all came off as INCREDIBLY ingenuine and nearly as manipulative as your actions that led to this point.
>>

I'd feel weird if I didn't do that.

>>
>>33767004
>I had in mind for her to die but I included two options that had her living to be fair.
Prof, please stop defending yourself here. Look. You're not going to win. No one trusted you to not twist some way for her to die in the other options. You can't even SAY that there's a 100% that there's no scenario where she'd die in those other options.

You wrote the scene. You also should have known people begrudged you. Please stop trying to defend yourself right after everyone has calmed down. PLEASE admit you fucked up instead of defending your decisions.
>>
>>33767014
I actually agree that it's kind of nitpicking. I'd rather reinforce ideas that work rather than damage control the ones that don't. That can become tedious.

>>
>>33767004
yeah, but adjusting combat granularity and prompts is a way of influencing players. It can greatly change their decisionmaking.
Be aware of this, and consider the effects your prompts and the situation you describe will have on the players and their battleplans. Having more prompts in combats for smaller actions is a good thing, sometimes, but at other times just opens the players for additional mistakes.

If this sounds kind of nebulous, it is. There's significant room for shooshy-wooshy I-like-you-don't preference nonsense here.

This is exactly what people are talking about when they say you aren't admitting fault and saying what you fucked up.

You haven't learned shit. This was your biggest fuckup yet and you still assert that you did nothing wrong.

Your "options that had her living" are meaningless because they could have easily resulted in her death and there was not any indication that they wouldn't. You haven't even listed a single reason as to how it wasn't just a guessing game, because you can't, which makes it look worse and worse for you every time you try to say that you weren't lying.

No one can guess what YOU want to happen, so all anyone can do is hope for the best and try not to overextend.

>I totally wasn't trying to force her death because the only option I tied her death to was the "Abandon your friends" option!
Seriously, Prof, you're not stupid enough for us to believe that you didn't know exactly what you're doing.

>Person A asks Person B to guess what number he's thinking, it's 1 through 3
>Person A has a history of lying about shit and kicking people in the nuts because they think it's awesome
>Person B guesses 1
>Person A kicks B in the nuts and says that he was thinking about 2 and 3 and saying either would have resulted in not kicking nuts
>Person B accuses A of bullshit
>Person A says he's totally not lying!
What do you think of person A, Prof? Do you think they're telling the truth?
>>
>>33767220
Prof.
>I'm still not lying about Marine though.
Shut up when you're thinking of defending yourself. That's all you need to do. You can have pleasant talks with your players, but if they call you out on a mistake, stop trying to lie to them.

Especially since you said you were apologizing for your fuck ups right here.
>>33766898
>Anon, I've been saying that I fucked up.
The fact that you said
>I'm still not lying about Marine though.
Shows that you were insincere about saying that you've fucked up (which you haven't actually said).
>>
>>33767220
Lines of communication are important.
he's just angry because you claim you were planning for marine to die, but had two living options.
It requires quite a lot of the already tenuous trust to not think you might be running a shellgame on us.
>>
>>33767220
You could always calm him down by admitting your mistakes another time or so. Y'know, actually give him a straight answer.

Another opportunity to build player trust, Ygg.
>>
>>33767169
>You know that con trick where a guy puts a coin under one of 3 cups? The one where they can switch the coin out to any other cup they want? That's this exact situation. But you're making the absurd claim that there were coins under 2 of the 3 cups.
This is exactly what it's like.
>>
>>33767220
Prof, can you reply to this?
>>33767250
What EXACTLY did you think you were "apologizing" for?

Look, it's great that you've made an effort to make up for your mistake, but you're just committing a back step right here. You admit you made a mistake? And then you defend that it was reasonable and logical?
>>
>>33767220
Prof. Before this thread 404s, just apologize. Okay? If you really want to solidify any peace between you and the players, please apologize for saying
>I'm still not lying about Marine though.
>>
this fucking playerbase man...
>>
>>33767220
How do I say this?
>I'm still not lying about Marine though
means that you don't think you did anything wrong.

What everyone is trying to say is that the way you wrote it feels as if it manipulates us into abandoning our friends. So the point is: It doesn't matter whether you were lying or not, you fucked up on delivery.
>>
>>33767220
Yeah, okay.
>>33767300
I'm good with this. Apologize and I'll drop it. Just don't ever try and rationalize your decisions to us.

>>33767169
>You know that con trick where a guy puts a coin under one of 3 cups? The one where they can switch the coin out to any other cup they want? That's this exact situation. But you're making the absurd claim that there were coins under 2 of the 3 cups.
Since this is the exact claim you've kept making to us for a while now.
>>
>>33767319
it's amazing how consistently you manage to be both more vitriolic AND more passive aggressive than them.
>>
>>33767300
I can't because I'm not.
If I was I'd own up to it.
But I could say that I'm a half-black male right now and you guys wouldn't believe me.

I'm shutting up. Going to bed. I'll try to update the retcon sometime in the next 2 weeks. I'll post it on the AoPH twitter.
>>
>>33767335
Oh, and forgot to include
>and ashamed of my nigger blood.
>>
>>33767335
See you eventually, I hope, then.
A lot can happen in a few months. Hopefully nothing that severely interrupts your life and questing habits.

And don't think you should always clam up. It's important that you talk with players.
>>
>>33767335
>You know that con trick where a guy puts a coin under one of 3 cups? The one where they can switch the coin out to any other cup they want? That's this exact situation. But you're making the absurd claim that there were coins under 2 of the 3 cups.
Does this not actually make sense to you? Or apply to your situation?

Do you have ANY reply to it?

If you were honest about what you're saying, then apologize for the way you set up the situation. Okay? Apologize for all your actions that caused us to lose trust in you.
>>
>>33767335
>>33767350
and the cycle continues. This is the problem with text-only conversations
>>
>>33767335
g'night, hopefully things get less salty over hiatus
>>
>>33767357
A retcon is enough of an apology for me.
A guy can say he's sorry without outright flat apologizing, and save a large degree of pride.
>>
>>33767335
Then if you're not going to apologize for it, APOLOGIZE for all the shit you've put us through. APOLOGIZE ONCE. Because you haven't actually admitted that you made a mistake.
>>
>>33767370
He tried, and then some anons failed to break it.
>>
>>33767379
The retcon is his apology.

I'd rather not get him defensive to the point where he takes it back.

He's not going to admit he made missteps in the past, we just have to pay attention to when it looks like he's going to make a similar misstep in the future, and make sure he's aware of it.
>>
>>33767386
Keep sucking that cock, anon. So dignified.

Especially right after he said
>Anon, I've been saying that I fucked up.
>How is that not admitting to fault?
>I'm still not lying about Marine though.
>I had in mind for her to die but I included two options that had her living to be fair.
And ignored
>You know that con trick where a guy puts a coin under one of 3 cups? The one where they can switch the coin out to any other cup they want? That's this exact situation. But you're making the absurd claim that there were coins under 2 of the 3 cups.

He hasn't admitted to any fault at all and is still lying barefaced to everyone.
>>
>>33767335
If you weren't lying, tell us what we were supposed to see at the time of the vote that indicate that saving Marine was the death option. Tell us what you could point to after the fact and say "this thing right here. See this? This showed that she had it.". Point to the thing that showed the other two would have resulted in living.

POINT TO THE THING THAT SHOWS IT WASN'T POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO LIE, BE CAUSE JUST REPEATING "TRUST ME!" LIKE A FUCKING PARROT DOESN'T WORK.
>>
>>33767386
He didn't try at all if he just immediately went back to it.
>>
>>33767418
what the fuck would she have died from in the water?

she has gills
she was shock proof

tell me
>>
>>33767335
All you're doing is telling us to "trust" you. Which is one of the major issues here that you seem to have forgotten about. We CAN'T trust you until you start being more open. Until you STOP punishing our logical, rational decisions.

If all you ever do is listen to the people who reassure you that you're right, then this is going to repeat itself again and again. Read the players' posts. Read their reasoning. Apply it to the story and forget about how you think the situation would play out.
>>
>>33767432
the giant monster.
Or freezing.
Which is what option A and B left her open to.
>>
>>33767432
The ice from our Blizzard could have trapped her. The monster in its death throes could have bitten her in half or something.

We didn't really have any plausible reason to think she was in danger, but more a lot of implausible ones, which means that this whole thing is impossible to settle.
>>
>>33767432
One option would have her die from our Blizzard. The other would have her die from the monster's thrashing.

This was ALREADY stated before. That you're asking for it shows that you never actually read any of the posts. Is the only thing that registers in your mind the complaints against Prof?
>>
>>33767432
Maybe the giant monster flailing around? Or all of the projectiles getting shot from the boat into the water? Or maybe the huge mast? Or maybe the monster decided it wanted to be spiteful when it put its head under and had bitten down on Marine and we needed to shoot it to get her out before it broke the shell? Or maybe the waves from the monster diving again pushed her into our Blizzard area of effect and started freezing her? Or maybe any number of things?
>>
and now we're back to the shitstorm, right when we were making some progress too. I really hope Prof has already gone to bed because if he sees shit like this we might loose our marine retcon
>>
are we gonna hit 900 posts?
>>
>>33767432
Do you really think Ygg couldn't have fabricated a reason? All of the things listed by
>>33767445
>>33767456
>>33767457
>>33767462
were just as plausible as the "final fuck you" hyper beam that she died to when we tried to save her.
>>
>>33767469
Even though I agree, I'm gonna have to second this.

We need to just let it go, we've already got more than expected, so we shouldn't be greedy.
>>
>>33767469
>>33767492
No chance of that happening. At all. So feel free to continue chewing Ygg out.
>>
>>33767492
Dran is just going to keep doing this if he doesn't understand what he did.
>>
>>33767511
Nah, he might not understand what he did wrong, but he knows people didn't like it, so he's going to avoid doing it in the future.

That's the best we're gonna get.

Bullying him at this point will only risk losing what we've won.
>>
>>33767556
It's impossible to lose anything except to have him drop it all entirely. Which I'm fine with at this point. The prospect of a retcon is nice and all, but if Prof is going to continue to make an ass of himself, people will continue to treat him that way.
>>
>>33767575
Eh, I'd say a retcon is actually a pretty big concession on his part, and it's worth holding off until we see how it is.
>>
>>33767575
Or prof's making an ass of himself because people treat him that way.
You get what you give.
He used to be pretty cool.
Remember when he was pretty cool? It's been a while.
The vitriol has been here a while.
I wouldn't be surprised if he really did articulate all this just to get us to not want AoPH to return.
>>
>>33767614
>He used to be pretty cool.
Then he fucked up. Starting at the boat. Then that's when people started treating him like an ass. Because he was an ass.

I remember when he was cool. And I remember when he became an ass.
>>
>>33767614
>sucky sucky
Oh wow, anon, you really love the taste of that cock.

>Or prof's making an ass of himself because people treat him that way.
Oh? Really? He started acting like an idiot because people treated him like one? God. The amount of circular reasoning idiots like you come up with is disgusting. The lengths you'd go to defend Prof....you're grasping at straws.
>>
>>33767656
>Continue being an ass.
>Continue getting an ass.
Your circular reasoning is why idiots like you aren't helping.
>>
>>33767656
Eh, as much as he sucks, I do think that that might be a part of it.

Like our own vitriol, instead of making Prof stop sucking, makes him suck harder.

Maybe we should try to be patient and polite when pointing out the many ways in which he fails us?

Because our current tactics don't seem to work. He just gets our tone and shuts down, and doesn't respond to the content.
>>
>>33767680
He's treated like an ass because he became an ass. No one would treat him like an ass otherwise. See
>Other QMs
>>
>>33767690
>Maybe we should try to be patient and polite when pointing out the many ways in which he fails us?
That's how it was in the beginning. But as you just saw in this thread, that does nothing. He doesn't ADMIT to any mistakes. He never owns up to them. See the post about him saying that he "owned up" to fucking up? Browse his previous posts. Nowhere does he actually apologize for fucking up. He's a slimy bastard.
