“She’s an interesting person,” Cassandra says, after Sattler has walked out the door.

“I kind of got that impression,” you say.

Harvey gets up and leaves the room without saying anything.

“Have you ever seen her before? Or is this like, completely out of the blue?” you ask, settling into your seat more thoroughly.

“I’ve met her a few times,” says Cass. “Isaac worked with her when he was in the military. He tries to keep his old life separate from what we do now, though, so he hasn’t really said much about it.”

“Isaac’s kind of a mysterious person,” you agree. But also a mysterious person is Cass. She’s pretty much great all the time – you’ve never really met anybody as kind and caring as her before. You’ve just taken it for granted, maybe. But now that you’re thinking about it, maybe she’s more interesting than your Greatest Generation adopted dad. “What about you, though? I mean, what’d you do before you met Izzy Halls? You said you were a cop, but how’d you get to that point?”

“That’s a tough question,” says Cassandra, taking a moment to think about it. “Well, I’m an only child, and my dad was a police officer. I always wanted to be like him ever since I was a little girl. He was the greatest person I knew.” She smiles. “Anyway, he spoiled me rotten. I thought about doing other things, but law enforcement was always in the back of my mind.”

“So, is he still around?” you ask.

“No, unfortunately not,” she says, a hint of melancholy in her tone.

“What about your mom?”

“She passed away when I was in college,” says Cass. “It wasn’t a surprise, really. We found out she had cancer when I was thirteen. The doctors said she only had a few months to live, but she was a stubborn lady.”

That’s kind of sad. “I guess it wasn’t easy for you, either,” you say.
>>
>>33747473

“You’re right, it wasn’t. My dad worked most of the time, so it pretty much fell on me to take care of her. I used to get so frustrated when I was your age,” says Cassandra, smiling wryly at herself. “Between having to drive her to and from the hospital and keeping the house in order, I had no time for myself. I felt like she was stealing my life from me. I’m glad it worked out the way it did, though. I learned a lot from my mother.”

“Well, I’m glad you don’t have cancer,” you say, without really thinking.

Cassandra gives you an amused frown. “That means a lot coming from you,” she says.

You feel kind of out of place, so you stand up. “Yeah, probably,” you say. “I’m going to go do demon yoga now.” You walk out before she can say anything else.

You retreat to the sanctity of your room, and clear a spot out on the floor. You take a second to calm down. Then, shrugging off your jacket and kicking off your socks, you let your claws out and assume the Fau Genrah stance, which is like, a kind of crouched thing with your hands kind of poised above your head.

Somehow, you felt less weird doing this when Ranthix was there yelling at you to do it. You’re about to stop because of how self conscious you feel, when you imagine what he’d say if he were here. “Non-existent people never made me feel awkward,” you growl to yourself, mimicking Ranthix’s gruff voice. “Assume Fau Genrah, spawnling, or I’ll shout even louder!”
>>
>>33747486

You snicker to yourself, and continue with the basic forms, as far as you can recall them.

--

You’re standing on your hands, your legs folded above you in an upside-down kneeling pose. Your tail curves out behind you, hovering a fraction of an inch above the floor. And then you lose your balance and fall over. Carpet’s not really that great for this yoga thing. Don’t they sell mats or something for this? In either case, putting so much effort into approximating what your remember Ranthix telling you to do has done a good job of bringing you down to a sense of calm. (Stress: -10: 0/100)

You listen to the house for a moment. You can hear Rowan in the room over talking to somebody, probably on the phone. Sounds like she’s back from her lunch date. You right yourself, hide your demonic features just in case, and go over.

You can hear snippets of conversation in the hall.

“-no, yeah. Totally.” A pause. “Yeah – really, next time I know this one place you have to see. It’s this awesome little mom and pop store, it’s exactly the kind of place I was talking about.” Another, longer pause.
>>
>>33747506

You gently knock on Rowan’s partially open door, and stick your head in. You see Rowan sitting up on her bed, on her phone. She has a goofy smile on her face, which disappears into something more Rowan like the second she sees you, and the deep impression of tangy, citrusy excitement radiating from her shuts down almost immediately. “Oh, sorry, I have to go,” she says, holding up a finger in your direction. “I’ll call you back.”

“I’ve heard that before,” says the voice on the other end. “Text me if you’re busy.”

“Okay. Bye!” she abruptly hangs up, and looks up at you. “Hey Sierra,” she says a little too quickly, absentmindedly gathering all her hair to one side and letting it fall over her shoulder. “How did the lesson stuff in the woods go?”

>As lessons in woods go. (Tell her everything.)
>Wait just a minute, don’t switch topics on me. How was the date thing with the guy person? It went good, didn’t it. Didn’t it?!

So, I've been thinking of the Glamouring, right? It's not just illusion, it displaces whatever is glamoured. Some sort of reality-shifting spell or whatnot. Bloody quantum spell.

Would it be possible to glamour Sierra's tail to be a... fluffy one?

This is important.
>>
>>33747759
>Would it be possible to glamour Sierra's tail to be a... fluffy one?
Who would want to?

A better question is whether we can glamour Zelathis to be a switchblade that, when we flick it open, reverts back to Zelathis in full, glorious splendour.
>>
>>33747520

Step it up, Anon.

I do like that switchblade idea. Maybe there's some sort of, uh, packing spell if glamour doesn't work.
>>
>>33747819
>I do like that switchblade idea. Maybe there's some sort of, uh, packing spell if glamour doesn't work.
If it does work (I really hope it does) we should try to do something similar with whatever big fucking weapon we get as our primary gun (I'm hoping AA-12). Have it appear as a tiny derringer when in a concealed carry holster, then back to full size when we draw it.
>>
>>33747633
That's only because they're paque to the wavelength of light needed to see in the dark.
>>
>>33747913
Why not just a Saiga? That way we have access to a ton of aftermarket parts instead of an extremely limited weapon that's not being produced any more.
>>
>>33747819
>"Would you like to touch my fluffy tail?"
>The tail is not fluffy at all
>BAD END
>>
We risa now?
>>
>>33747959
Because the AA-12 is tough as fuck, while the Saiga - though easy to repair - jams and breaks like a motherfucker if you try to do half the shit Sierra does during every fight.
>>
>>33747998
I'd touch Sierra's fluffy tail.
>>
>>33748044
Saigas are reliable as hell. Where did you get your information?
>>
>>33748066
painful/10
>>
>>33748163
Not if it's glamoured since there's no way glamour is just a mere illusion. It would be the fluffiest/10.
>>
>>33748100
Real life? They're reasonably reliable under normal conditions, but in situations where they're being dragged through the mud, getting caught in fires, shot underwater, and so forth, they can and do regularly jam or break. Their upside is that they're incredibly easy to repair - but the problem is, Sierra fights tend to be 50% explosion and 50% hitting the ground very, very hard.

And in situations like that, you want the AA-12, because it's rugged as fuck.

You want a weapon that won't break or jam in the first place, no matter the conditions you put it under, not a weapon that's easy to fix during downtime. The latter is irrelevant to us, because we have the dosh to afford expensive repairs. The former's all that matters.

“Killed deer, climbed trees, got chewed out for not benching my weight in – “ you pause, and point accusingly at Ro. “Hey, no switching topics on me! How was the date thing with the guy person? It went good, didn’t it. Didn’t it?!”

Rowan gives you a flustered look. “It wasn’t a date!” she exclaims.

“Pfft, what’s a date then?” you say, smirking. You let yourself in and falling into the beanbag chair by Ro’s bed. “You get a guy, you get a cool place, and you hang out with the idea that if you like hanging out, you’ll hang out again, and then make out with him.”

“There you go,” she says, triumphantly. “I’m not going to make out with him. It doesn’t fit your definition of a date.”

“Well,” you say. “Do you think he’s hot?”

“Why does that matter?” Ro asks. “Can’t a boy and a girl just be, you know, friends, like regular people?”

You narrow your eyes at her, suspiciously. “So you’re saying you don’t even think Red Hood’s a little cute at all.”

“Just FYI, Red Hood’s name is Will. And no, for that matter, I don’t,” Ro says, bothered by your questioning.

“I think you’re either feeding me a bunch of BS or that you’re just in denial,” you tell her.

“Okay, maybe I do like him a little bit,” Ro admits. “But I have to get to know him better before I decide whether it’s friend-liking or more-than-friend liking.”

You chuckle. “But that’s exactly what dating is,” you say. “You totally just went on a date. Don’t play the mind games card on me, Ro. I’m immune.”
>>
>>33748489

Rowan tries not to laugh.

You think about what you said a little more carefully. “I mean, you know, you can’t fool me,” you clarify. “Just admit you went on a date! It’s not the end of the world.”

Ro rolls her eyes, and rolls onto her stomach on the bed. “Fine. But it wasn’t a real date,” she reaffirms, making a point of not looking at you. “Just… a preliminary date.”

“Ha!” you say. “I knew it!”

“I don’t know. Everybody I go out with winds up being a jerk,” says Ro. “Or they just get all weird once we’re actually dating, even if they’re usually cool, you know?”

You snort. “That’s dating for you,” you say, smirking to yourself. “So you like this Will dude then?”

“He’s pretty fun,” Rowan says, smiling at the thought. “He’s like one of those guys who’s always revving to go do something. I like people that have that kind of energy inside them, you know?”
>>
>>33748503

“Yeah, kind of,” you say. “I don’t know if that’s what I’d put at the top of the list for a guy, though. Too much energy and they’re always just going to drag you all over the place.” Sometimes you just need to lay back and do absolutely nothing.

Rowan looks over at you, curiously. “Well, what would you put at the top of your list?”

You consider your feelings on the subject.

>Well, coolness, obviously. When a guy knows what he’s all about, I’m all about that. He’s got to have a sense of style.
>I like people who don’t take stuff too seriously. I mean, if somebody can’t take a joke, what fun are they?

>How he makes you feel. If you’re going to spend a lot of time with a guy, it just has to be about if you feel comfortable around him. Nothing else really matters if you don’t like his manly radiation.
>Confidence takes the top spot for me. If you’re not sure of yourself, then why should I bother wasting my time with you? I’ll find someone who’s fine being himself.

AK platform weapons can't aim worth a damn, jam constantly, and regularly break. The advantage is that they're so simple that you can usually repair them using tools and junk you can find in Shithole Nowhere. If you intend to be in a long-term engagement with frequent-but-short bouts of fighting and little in the way of resupplies, you can't do better than an AK. If you intend to be in short-term engagement with rare-but-intense fighting and constant access to resupplies, you want something that is TOUGH AS FUCKING NAILS, if expensive.

The Saiga is a cool gun, and I'd totally be down for it if we didn't have a rich family or crazy explosion-demons that try to kill us.

We have both of those things, though.

Hitting something with our gun if it runs out of ammo is stupid. The claws are deadlier and have PP drain. And we might not have enhanced strength yet, but I'm willing to bet that we'll eventually be strong enough to break an AK by hitting things with it.
>>
>>33749308
It's generally a tactic to stun someone so you can shoot them when in close. But with elbows/knees/claws/horns, we don't really need it.

>Meh, I don’t have a list. I play by ear.
>>
“Well here’s how I look at it,” you say. “Hotness, coolness, and humorness are all like, important stuff, but those are just the basics. The most important thing – the thing that, you know, if they have I’ll overlook maybe other stuff, it’s confidence. Like, who wants a hot guy who’s unsure of himself?” Well. “Okay, maybe that’s not a good example,” you say. “But if somebody doesn’t think they’re worth anything, then why should I invest in that? That’s just a bad idea. I’ll take the time finding someone who’s fine being who they are.”

“You seem to have put a lot of thought into this,” Rowan says, entertained.

“Oh you wait, I haven’t got to the most important clause,” you say. “All of everything I just said doesn’t even matter though if a guy makes you feel like crap. This is somebody you’ll, you know, hopefully spend more time with than anybody. It has to be about if you feel comfortable with him. All the stuff in the world doesn’t matter if you can’t handle his manly radiation,” you say.

Ro grins at you. “So, just go with how you feel, is your top slot on the list?” she asks, her expression incredulous.

“You make it sound lame,” you say, drawing your knees up to yourself.

“No, there’s nothing wrong with that,” she says, chuckling a little. “I’m impressed. It’s more touchy feely than I expected from you.”

“It’s a touchy feely subject,” you reply, setting your chin on your knees. Geeze, it’s not like you’re totally out of touch with your emotions.

Rowan decides to drop the topic. “So, you said Ranthix yelled at you about lifting?”

You grin. “Man, let me tell you about it,” you say.

Stress: 12/100
Sanity: 83/100
Bloodlust: Subdued

It is the middle of the night. You cannot sleep.

Everybody’s home, the gun range was fun, and Harvey did his spaghetti magic, once more, which was also good. Sattler’s Kriss gun thing was awesome to shoot, too, even if it looked way weird. And now, since there is no guest bedroom in the Hallow household, Sattler has been placed in the family room with an air mattress. You have to be pretty careful, just in case. You’re sleeping with your glamors and everything up, and it taxes you.

You sit on top of your blankets in the dark, and stare at the wall. You try not to think, but such is a difficult exercise in the middle hours between Saturday and Sunday. Should you try to force yourself to sleep? It might be a lost cause.

You feel a hollow space inside your chest, as if something’s missing. It’s kind of like hunger, maybe. It distracts you slightly from thinking about other things.

>Try not to think about other things. (Dice)
>Try to sleep anyway.
>Midnight snack. Maybe you’re hungry.

Our little Sierra is growing so fast ;_;

You numb your mind by concentrating on your surroundings. They seem almost to press in around you, confining you. Trapping you. You can’t be yourself here, right now.

You need to get out. You need space.

Silently, you pull on a pair of jeans and grab your cool jacket. When you’re dressed, you vaguely consider where you’re going. Downstairs isn’t a good idea. Stairs make noise when you go up or down. There’s an angel downstairs, and you don’t want to interact with her. She’s a complicating force.

You blink away your shadow sight, and look to your window. You stand up from your bed and creep over, and pull the curtains aside. You’ve never really paid attention, but it would be really, really easy to climb out from here. The roof ledge before your window runs to the front of the house, and you could probably figure out some way to scramble back up when you came back.

Without thinking about it, you open the window and climb outside. The roofing is cold and has a rough texture to it that grips your feet, but it’s solid, and provides great footing. You allow your feet to stretch out, and you flex your claws.

You turn around and close the window behind you, then gently crawl along the roof to above the driveway. You jump down in the orange glow of the light, and suppress a shiver at a gust of wind. You look up and down the street, and see no signs of life.

The sense of freedom is exhilarating. You can do anything right now. There’s no limit to who you can be, or where you can go. (-7 Stress: 5/100)

First thing first, you flit out of the light and get some distance between you and the Hallow house, suddenly fearful of being spotted by someone, somehow. You crouch down low in the dark, in the shadow of an SUV, and breathe in the night air. It’s refreshing.

As you hold still, you hear a siren somewhere in the distance.

Unbidden, images and sensations nag at the edge of your consciousness. (+4 Stress: 9/100) It’s best not to dwell on them.

You creep through the dark, feeling like you’re in a dream. There’s no sign of life anywhere. Though no one watches, you move carefully, mindful to keep out of sight. You cling to shadows and dart through the light of streetlamps, your destination unknown.

The quiet and slow, methodical progression of your journey, however, fail to keep your thoughts wholly occupied. You start feeling sick to the stomach. That siren still calls to you, in the distance.

Just like all of them were calling for you, because of what you did.

An image hits you. Blood and fire, mingled with scorched meat. (-2 Sanity: 81/100)

Somehow, you’ve fallen to one knee. A cold sweat runs down your brow, and you wipe it off with a shaky hand. You’re breathing hard, though you don’t feel fatigued at all. You look around, and see that you’re alone in the darkness. Everything’s fine, now, isn’t it?

Those damn sirens are still going off. What the hell could possibly be going on over there?

The thought is crazy, but it compels you. What if they’re after somebody like you? A hellborn, unable to stop murdering everybody. You think you can smell blood, somewhere. Or is it just your imagination?

>arguing with fallacy grobber after they've revealed themselves as such
It's pointless. They'll just spew bullshit and then then point at everyone else and say "nope. fallacy nope wrong" while spewing more bullshit.
>>
>>33751289
The first response was an assertion that the other guy was making the assumption that he could tell the future, and a snarky remark requiring that he back up his precognitive powers.

The second response was to the first response. It disparaged the comparison to fortune-telling, and then insisted that I would continue to make another argument which I never made (it's good to jump off roofs). That was the strawman.
>>
There's a lot of aggression in these threads, but I guess that's a sign that the participants care.
>>
>>33751347
Please, the revelation of the common use of fallacies can only serve to bring good arguments to light and condemn the bad arguments, thereby uplifting discourse. The rampant abuse of poor logic is immoral.
>>
>>33751479
You mean autism, not aggression. But I suppose you're right, nobody wants to see Sierra lose it and get in trouble.
>>
>>33751421
Both responses exaggerated some element of the replied post (namely assuming things about the future, and doubt in certain conclusions), both with some hostility and accusasions. Neither one is superior to the other.
>>
>>33751543
Sometimes I push for it, when I think it fits her current mood. But right now, she'd be wary to lose it again. Hence not fucking investigating the sirends that bring up bad fucking memories.

"Don't need that shit right now, no, no, no, fuck."
>>
>>33751576
The question wasn't about which one was superior, it was about which one was strawmanning. The first response wasn't strawmanning and the original statement deserved to be put down because of its naked assumption, faulty premise.
>>
>>33751606
I on the other hand think it is worth investigating, the way Languid worded it.

Well whatever, something neat happens anyway, I think. I'm not going to lose sleep over this.
>>
>>33751652
Yes, of course, there was absolutely no basis to the original statement. You're right, I apologize.
>>
>>33751662
Yeah, but see, my own response comes from how I read the protagonist, whereas yours comes from meta-knowledge. Of course there is something where the sirens are. We both know that. Sierra doesn't necessarily knows. She just has flashbacks of mayhem.
>>
>>33751421
Both of you were being snarky jackasses and misrepresenting the other's arguments. You by saying that the other guy's guesses about consequences were baseless and then comparing it to fortune-telling, and the other guy by saying that you would ignore obvious cause and effect relationships such as gravity making things fall.

I think that other guy is overreacting here, but I can see where he's coming from after having played this quest for 45 threads and seeing how Sierra is right now. That's not the same thing as pulling lottery numbers out of thin air, and saying it is is strawmanning, just like he did by saying that you would ignore obvious cause and effect relationships.

Both of you probably thought you were just being cutsey about it when you were really being hostile jerks to eachother.
>>

No need for apologies, glad we're on the same page.
>>
>>33751712
This.
Roleplay, don't metagame.
>>
>>33751712
Hn, that's actually a fair point.

Suppose you could also technically consider this discussion of ours (and others too, I guess) a battle of wills within Sierra. Part of her wants to check what the shit is going on with the sirens, the other wants to get the fuck away to avoid mental damage.

Or maybe I'm just trying to justify my meta.
>>
>>33751740
The first statement presented no argument, it was just a baseless assumption.
>The minus 2 was just from thinking about what -might- be there. We go investigate the sirens and we're going to have a full-blown flashback to the end of the last bloodrage.
No one can know this except Languid, and yet it is spoken as if it is true with zero justification.

I was a little snarky, true, but so what? Unfounded assertions should be shot down with at least a hint of derision, less they be given undeserved creedence.

You kick to your feet and run away. You’re not sure where you’re running or what you’re running away from, but it’s important that you don’t stop. You claws hit the pavement, dig in, and push off, propelling you forward at great speed. The distant call of sirens grows quieter, after some time, it’s silent once more.

You keep running for several minutes anyway, sprinting past looming shapes of trees and flashing through circles of illumination under streetlights. The feel of your feet on pavement, along with your steady breathing and pumping your arms, does something to occupy your mind so you don’t have to remember what you did, even if it’s trying to claw into your being. (+5 Stress: 12/100)

You slow down out of your run when you find yourself in a darkened, forested park. You jog off the path and sit down heavily on the side of a hill. You find yourself crying, for some reason, though you don’t know exactly why. All you know is that you think you can taste a little blood in your mouth. It doesn’t taste like yours – you reach in and touch a claw to the spot, and bring it out to examine it. Actually, it is your blood. You must have cut your tongue on your teeth while you were running, maybe.

The sight of the blood on your claw seems to grow before you. One time your claws were covered in blood, and you didn’t know where any of it was from. You can remember it vividly. The smell and taste of it everywhere. (-1 Sanity: 80/100) (+3 Stress: 15/100)

You wipe your claws on your shirt, and force them to become hands again. Then you wipe your nose, and grab your phone. You’re not doing so well, right now, for some reason. You dial Moriah up, because you don’t feel like you can call any of the Hallows right now, and explain to them why you ran out.

The phone rings. Then it rings some more. Then you get voice mail. You rub your forehead and close your eyes. Of course she’s not going to answer, it’s the middle of the fucking night.

You run through your options, and through your contacts list. You come across Ranthix’s name, and hold up. If there’s anybody who’d answer a call from you in the middle of the night, it’s him. You hesitate for a second, but then hit the call key.

It goes straight to voicemail, and then cuts out. He probably didn’t charge his phone. Great. That’s just awesome.

You feel anger well up inside of you, and you take it on your phone. You chuck it away from you, and it bounces a couple times in the grass before coming to a stop. Then you burry your head in your arms and sit there for a while, your face burning and your nose all stuffy and crap.

Then, suddenly, your phone rings.

Moriah’s on the other end. Her voice is barely a croak when she speaks. “Sierra? What’s happened?” she asks, hearing the stuff not right with your voice. “Why’re you calling?”

You feel terrible for having woke her up. How the hell are you supposed to explain this?

>You're the only one I can call right now.

We already have enough rolls to talk and not hang up.

Also, we aren't very stressed, and we aren't hugely insane; so what is causing this? Could something or someone be trying to fuck with us from a distance somehow? Are we just picking something up empathetically?
>>
>>33751911
>>Sorry, I… I’m just kind of scared right now.
>>
>>33752006
It's generally best of three, and we got an 11. I presume Conversation Is Go.
>>
Totally unrelated to what we're doing, but is the guy that made the PDF thing here?

Something about it is bugging me; we don't know anything about how Verwelkens look. You said they have black horns and claws, but we don't actually know that. Just because we have black claws and stuff doesn't mean that they're Verwelken features. All of the demons we encountered who didn't know we're Corithis' daughter thought it was weird that we could do shadow stuff. The hallows too. Cordeliate said "you managed to get a Verwelken to work with you?!" when we shadow'd her sword and then was surprised when we answered "no, I'm a Verwelken". Moriah also said that we didn't look like any demon kind she knows about.

Also, now that we know that there's a type of angel that's just made of light, I think that Verwelkens might actually just be living shadows.
>>
>>33752101
Oh, it's lower is better? Nice, I had forgotten what system Languid uses it seems, I thought we were aiming for high numbers for some reason.
>>
>>33752068
There is an angel who will smite us if we slip up. I'd imagine there would be great deal of subconcious pressure on Sierra to not fuck up and lose the family she had been missing for so long. That's just my interpretation.

Still, it could be an outside source trying to drive us to suicide or rage so we would have to be put down.
>>
>>33752131
>Re:Angel types
I think stygians are just mob of creatures like rats and things too, now that we know there's a birds angel.
>>
>>33752068
It might be Philo messing with us. Maybe she managed to get another Belphegoran ally. This does look like emotion fuckery, so it would make sense.

Or maybe Waldo is making his move.
>>
>>33752169
That's the best case scenario, combined with having to sleep glamoured up, but it's probably best to be paranoid. We still don;t really get the capabilities of everything around us, and for all we know this could be the result of Philo doing something strange to a landwell affecting our landmaster traits, or even just her dicking with us directly by virtue of her weird disconnected-from-reality powers
>>
>>33752246
Belphegorans are common as fuck. We've seen so many of the damn things around here.
>>
>>33752252
Maybe the landwell is here in this park and we'll be able to snatch it out from under her nose.
>>
>>33752169
Speaking of, if this turns out to be nothing (or close enough as far as Sutt is concerned) how are we explaining this? We could probably pass it off as needing to get some air because we still get bad dreams about our past, plus taking the opportunity to see if we spot the landwell. If we do actually find the latter, probably want to get some backup to keep guard before we nab it though.
>>
>>33752246
I don't think a Belph could keep up with us running blindly at full-speed, at least.
>>
>>33752376
We don't have superhuman speed, just really good stamina. They might have +stam too.

Or they're hitting us with something that doesn't need to be constantly applied. Most of their powers seem to work like that. It's not a constant stream of depression, it's a ball. Same with Inflict Pain; it's not a constant stream of pain, they hit you and it stays hurting for a while after they fuck off.

So they might be able to keep up with us, but even if they can't they probably don't need to. Can probs just zap us and then catch up when we stop and zap us again.
>>
>>33752068
Its really just reading as ptsd for me. Everything she's spazzing about has a direct trigger laid out in the paragraph. Sirens, blood on her hands, the taste and smell of it.
>>
>>33752459
Dude, no, we're part Infernus, we hunt things with claws and teeth. The faux-vampires definitely aren't keeping up with out fulltime sprint thanks to stamina.

Which is sort of middle-tier unpleasantness, between just regular stress and supernatural dickholery. It seems pretty likely, and we probably need a little therapy to come to terms with some things.

It's been mentioned before that learning to distance ourselves from stuff is probably going to be key to managing our sanity meter. Some CBT or whatever to go with our demon yoga.

“Sorry,” you say, trying to keep your voice even. “I uh… I’m just kind of scared, I guess.”

There’s a pause. It seems like a long time, and you look up into the colorless stretch of plants and stuff before you, seeing all of it tremble slightly in the wind. Now that you’re not running anymore, the cold starts to get to you. You rub your arm with your other hand, and put your hood up.

“Are you all right?” Moriah asks, sounding more alert now. “I can get my father….”

“No, don’t,” you answer, shutting your eyes. “Just… don’t hang up.” You have a terrible headache coming out of nowhere. You don’t really say anything for a while, but you can just barely hear Moriah breathing on the other end of the line.

“Sierra?” she says. “Are you still there?”

“Yeah,” you answer quickly, almost before she’s done talking. You take a deep breath. Deep breaths are good, probably. “I just wanted to hear somebody.”

“Oh,” she answers, still confused. But she doesn’t question it. “All right.”

You both sit in silence for a while.

After a minute, Moriah speaks up again. “Do you want to talk about it?” she asks.

>No.
>Maybe later.

“I don’t know,” you say, feeling perhaps as confused as Moriah is right now. The prospect of being alone again, however, is not something you can bear right now. “I’m sorry. This isn’t… it’s not me right now. Don’t hang up. Just...” you fish around for something to say, anything to talk about. “What’d you do today?” you ask.

“Well I… Maviel had some of her things in an art show,” she says, picking up certainty as she speaks. “We went to that and visited with her. Waldric was there too. He’s looking better, but you know, he doesn’t recover like you do.”

“I bet,” you say, trying to smile. “How’d they… like the stuff? The people there.”

“I’m not sure. Her pieces didn’t seem to attract too much attention, but there were a couple critics that kept coming around to talk to Maviel about her work.”

“But that’s a good thing, right?”

“She draws inspiration from Drathinian styles,” she says. “It’s subtle. I think it’s too subtle, myself. But some people bought a couple of her paintings, so maybe I’m not a good judge.”

“Next time, maybe give me a call or something – I’ll have a look myself and let you know if you’re being snooty or if your sister’s just a snooty painter,” you say.

“I guess it slipped my mind,” says Moriah. “It seemed like a family thing, I don’t know.”
>>
>>33753711
Meant like the gut pangs earlier hard, murder angst only started after she left.
>>
>>33753750
She's been having murder angst since her latest blowing up session.
>>

You and Moriah talk for a while. Eventually, you start feeling less shaky and more normal-ish again. (+1 Sanity: 81/100) (-6 Stress: 9/100) You feel like you should probably let her go. “Anyway,” you say, “sorry for the weird call. I’ll let you go back to sleep now.”

“It’s okay,” says Moriah. “Are you sure everything’s all right?”

“Yeah. Maybe I’ll tell you about it later,” you say. You don’t know what you might have done if she didn’t call you back. “You’re a good friend," you tell her. "Just so you know.”

You hear Moriah yawn on the other end of the phone. “Okay," she says. "Have a good night.”

“Yeah, good night,” you say. You hold off for a second, and then hang up.

You are alone in the park.

Might find the landwell if we're lucky. Might find Philo and one of her friends if we're unlucky. Might find some cop who wants us dead if we're slightly less unlucky.

Or we might just cry and hallucinate. That could also happen by itself or on top of one of the others.

I guess the four votes to call home plus the four to go home will mean we contact them so they don't panic if they wake up before we get home. Agreed. Hopefully it'll be softer, having done it before, but it's not something we want to rely on. We really need to get some therapy of some kind in us to help us deal with these sorts of things, though at least meditation and demon yoga is giving us a handle on our stress.

Something to put stuff in perspective at least, like reminding ourselves that for all the problems we've caused at least we're genuinely remorseful, and trying to get the control to stop it happening again. Meanwhile, the people we were fighting when we screwed up were gleeful mass murderers engaged in literally enslaving people and sending them to hell planning on razing the city.
