You are a Female Orc Space Captain trying to destroy the ODIN confederation.
Space is a horrible place filled with people trying to kill you or deceive you.

Last Time:
>Got Captains License and a Crew
>Got supplies from a third party
>Blew up an ODIN ship that was disturbing Trade routes
>Forty shut down by Counter-Hacking measure.

Turns out Forty was only shut down with no serious injuries to his hardware, Neewri fixed him easily.

You pick up a distress signal with someone trying to contact you.
Do you accept the transmission?
>>

Sure, see what they want.

Alright, let's see what they want. I'm surprised Forty survived.
>>
>>33744780
Hmm, weird, it seems that the signal only transmits whitenoise, both sound and image.
The only other information that is still transmitted are their cordinates.
What do you do?

Weren't we checking the ODIN ship? We can still check the non-locked areas.

Otherwise, we could continue the mission and look for trader ships to see if there are any more.
>>
>>33744859
The locked door was the first door to get access to any of the rooms, so you instead decided to leave before ODIN reinforcements arrived, since one of your crew members was down.

>>33744857
As you fly closer, you notice it is in fact a civilian ship, marked with the 'NEUTRAL AND INDEPENDENT' mark, there seems to be no hull damage of any sort.
As you get closer, the signal strengthens, the sound has a very cruncy and distorted sound repeating on loop.

The ship has a large hangar to allow ships to board.

>>

It was pretty easy to land the ship and enter the facility, you let forty stay in the ship, and as you go in the hallway you see this device, it seems to be a sort of directions help to find different places on the ship.

Testing the goo will require a plan.
You say "Captains Log" and the computer immediatly boots up. It shows the captains log of the last few days and you decide to listen to them to find out what happened to the ship.

< Day 1591 >
So this weird fungi, goo is still growing, i've almost doubled our spending for the maintenance and cleaning departments but it seems that it dosen't help. Citizens keep complaining about how ugly it looks, but it just seems to spread.
< Day 1592 >
My second-in-command did not show up on the bridge today, i asked around what happened to him and tried to contact him, but i got no response, i wonder what he is doing.
< Day 1593 >
I got several reports about people going missing, but the logs show no additional ships going in our out of the hangar. I will have a mandatory citizen counting tomorrow to find out if it is just hysteria
< Day 1594 >
Even more people are reported missing, and after counting we found out half of the people on the ship is missing. I have no idea what is going, there are no corpses or anything, does this have anything to do with that weird grey stuff? I sincerely hope not.
< Day 1595 >
I have decided to regroup the remaining citizens to be closer to the bridge, this way i hope we are safe from whoever or whatever that keep making them disappear, the recent counting shows we are down to 25% of our expected population.
< Day 1596 >
Oh god. It is only me and my 2 pilots left. I have no idea what is going on. I have sent out a distress beacon, and i've made it tell them to check this log. If i do not record any more logs after this one, please remember me for my bravery and dream of independence, not for my failure to protect my people. I'm so sorry.

Let's enter the station and visit Neewri, as well as check the place out in general. Any ETA on repairs?
>>
Okay quick disclaimer, i am starving and need some food. Keep the thread alive with discussion or the sort while i'm gone, i'll take any choices or questions when i get back.

If we cannot visit Neewri immediately then we should send him messages through a commlink or something to try and talk with him and keep his spirits up, send him pictures of us or whatever we can to let him know we're going to be here when he's better.
>>
Rolled 50

>>33749241
Yeah, that's a good idea. Definitely need to boost his mood so to speak.
>>
Rolled 27

>>33749190
We probably should also give VIOARR the coordinates of the civy ship we picked up the space aids on so they can either fix it or blow it out of the sky. We don't want other people picking this stuff up and not being able to make it to the facility for treatment.
>>
Ask fluff to send him "cheerful" pictures to "lift his spirit up"

Neewri would probably what pics of machines or new tech of some kind.

There are no external ways to message him except in person in his quarantine cell.
You funny guy though 33749692
>>33749186
>>33749230
You ask the medic if you can visit Neewri
>Vioarr Medic: You can visit him in about 6 hours, we need to put him in the cell, and other things before you can visit him, we also need to make sure both your and your ship is not infected aswell.
6 Hours later after everyone is checked you get directed up to his quarantine cell.
Neewri seems very ill still, and it seems they gave him new clothes.
He says in monotone:
>Neewri: O-Oh. You guys have no idea how glad i am to see you. This goo thing, it's, it's, it's, it's like it's spreading throughout my entire body. I think i can feel it in my stomach, kicking around. They hooked me up to these tubes, they seem, they seem to directly inject something into m-my body. Ho-ow long was it since this, goo, crawled into m-my body. i sort of blacked out when i went int- into mmy sleeping cabin.

Explain how long it's been, tell him the doctors seem pretty optimistic that this is just a routine case and he should be out in no time.
Hang around and chat for a while, then let Forty stay longer if he wants.
Are there any stores on this ship?
>>
Rolled 32

>>33749821
Reassure him he'll be fine, stay around a bit longer.
>>
>>33749863
>>33749955
You tell him that it is a routine case and reassure him he will be out of there in no time.
>Neewri: "Th... That is s-so g-g-great to hear from you g-guys."

You stay around and talk with him about various small things with no real point other than making him feel safe.
As the conversation goes on you notice his eyes get progressively grayer, and his speech becomes more and more slurred.

There are a few shops on the ship selling various vares.
>>
>>33750148
Check out what personal weapons they sell.
>>
Rolled 54

>>33750148
Ask if Forty wants to stay with him.
Ask the doctors if the whole gray eyes thing is supposed to happen.
Go check out the stores, especially weapons, systems and clothes. What? We can get some of those too!
>>
>>33750148
I think we should get some suits so we won't have to worry about stuff like this.
>>
>>33750263
>>33750193
>>33750284
You tell Neewri you will go around the ship to see what else is there, and ask Forty wether he wants to stay or not
>Forty: Yes, i would prefer to be with Neewri.
You then try and find a doctor and mention his eyes are turning gray, he then follows you back to the quarantine cell
>Vioarr Doctor: This is not really, normal, uhh, i will upscale the treatment.
Neewri seems to be in a different world right now and dosen't register any of this is going on.

You and Fluff then goes up to the store floor, there are not too many of them but they seem to focus on prevention of future injuries that would be costly for Vioarr, and a clothing store, most likely to earn some money since this facility is expensive to run.
>>
Rolled 21

>>33750494
Let's visit them all. Suits first, see what proper space-suits cost. Then get some basic medical supplies. Finally, let's try out some clothes and relax a little.
Damn, guess helping Neewri won't be that easy huh. Wonder what'd happen if we took a longer route.
>>
Rolled 4

>>33750494
get suits and some first aid stuff, then shop for clothes, sure
>>
>>33750597
>>33750527
When you go to check the stores, you see one room with all 3 room codes, and there is a giant computer inside that can dispense supplies. They probably replaced payed staff recently and did not have time to redo all the signs.

>Fluff: Ooo, cool. We should not spend all our money though, what if we lost it all when someone raided us?

You put on the new captains hat, it looks fancy and adds some authority to your appearance

There is not too much more to do here, do you return to the ship and wait it out or go back to check up on Neewri?

>>33751431
As you walk down to check on Neewri, it seems that they temporarily blocked the windows, by further inspection you can see the small text saying.
"Patient treatment is currently being revised, the doctors prefer to not be monitored during this time."
Forty is just staring blankly into the wall.

You try and find anyone who is in charge, the best you can find is an doctor managing the various patients. You ask him why patient 5IF's treatment is getting revised.
>Over Doctor: 5IF, 5IF, oh the mantis one with the infection? Yeah it was spreading pretty aggressively, we haven't seen this type of Goo or Fungi before. It seems to be focused on spreading as much as possible for what we have collected from his behavior, since it resides mainly in his stomach to be coughed up and absorb any food he eats or has eaten to grow itself. The eyes thing is pretty unnerving, we suspect it may also be in his brain region. You should not worry, the treatment we are changing to will yield a... outcome, but it has a much better chance of stopping it from spreading. You should be glad that stuff did not get inside any of you.
Forty or Fluff heard none of this conversation.
You then decide to go back to the ships control deck to find it has been repaired while you were away, you play cards and time pases very quickly, forty leaves after a while but it kept his mind on something else. Fluff seems to be in a better mood after playing cards. You feel pretty tired at this point.
It is now you and Fluff alone in the control deck-

You ask her to talk about her species and her childhood, she seems exited
>Oo, where do i start. Well, like most species, once we reached space travel we quickly separated into entirely different cultures. I was raised in one where we mostly valued nature, we had plants and nature almost everywhere, in our cities or ships, it was actually really nice. My childhood mostly consisted of running around with my arms flailing pretending i was a pilot. I was just aging out from being a cub i found out my planet had some, valuable, plant nectar that i then learned how to turn into a valuable product by a guy i met, i think he was a smuggler but i never hung too much out with him. I then made a living selling that stuff. And about the petting thing, yes, it has happened, but it's mostly kids.

Most of my childhood games was fighting with the other young orcs, later i would start fighting larger insects that was on the planet with my bare hands. Due to my planets war-loving nature i had to serve my obligatory military service already at age 8, i didn't mind though. I never really made too many friends but people tended to listen to me when i assumed command in different situations. A few years passed by and i wanted to be a captain to explore the galaxy and try to have my own crew instead of just bossing other soldiers around when i was just a soldier myself. I think that pretty much captures most of my childhood."

You go over to his sleeping cabin but you instead catch him in the hallway. You ask him how he is doing.
>Forty: "Why do you organics always die. You would think with all the technology you have created, biological engineering, cyber kinetics, machines like me, that you would find a way to keep everyone alive. It seems every time i feel a little bit of connection with one of you, something happens. I still remember the first person i protected, he got stabbed in his sleep while i was guarding the door. I still don't understand how. Sometimes i still think about it. I know i can just erase the memory from my memory, but why would i, it would also mean i would have to forget him. But something happened down the line, apparently a life became meaningless, after cloning and massive species farms were invented, you can churn out billions upon billions of lives a second. Truth is only we, the select few, will care if Newrii dies. It's something i've come to accept. If he manages to get out alive, i will do anything to never let something like this happen to him again. But for now, all i can do is wait."
