You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

THUNK! Like those before it, the dart hits home in the centre of the target, quivering there a moment. That’s six bull’s-eyes in a row now.

“No, man, no.” Jebediah Guthrie leans heavily against one of the nearby bookshelves, a crooked grin on his face. “That’s not natural. You have aiming powers or something.”

You’re not entirely certain how far you trust the Young X-Men, but Kevin and Lucas seem to appreciate the rare opportunity to be out of your hole in the ground, so you stuck around a while. Turns out they had a weather-worn dartboard hanging around, which you decided to try your hand at. Pretty much all your turns so far have looked like a lot of this.

“I guess so…” Well, you had your suspicions, but this pretty much confirms it. Time to add FPS Protagonist Powers to the growing list.

“Most certainly so.” Says Jeb, grunting a little as he wrenches the darts out of the board. You may or may not have embedded a few of them in the wood behind the board. “You’re about five shades of disqualified. Victor, you’re up.”

You watch young lizard-kid carefully lines up each shot. He’s not bad. Jeb punctuates each throw with a “Nice!” or a “Good shot!” – but you get the impression that’s less about Victor’s performance than Jeb being himself. He’s certainly a lot more… approachable… than Hisako, and you guess he kinda owes you. Quickly checking that nobody’s listening in, you consider squeezing for a bit of information from him.

Could JJ make Creeper visible in a way similar to how Ultimate Kitty can make her punches hit harder?
>>

Doubtful. Creeper's Invis is mind-based, ignoring him instead of actually disappearing. Ult. Kitty sounds like some kind of density control (never read it much, just guessing).

It's unrelated in what causes it, so I doubt it. Plus the example was someone using her powers on herself, pretty sure it's different than if she also has made people denser or something. Not sure Invisiblity powers can make people more visible, unless it just does some light-control to do a strobelight/discoball effect.

THUNK! Victor hits one of the lighter segments, near the centre. None of you actually know how to play darts, so you’ve no idea how many points that is. You knew where he’d hit before the dart even left his hand. You turn toward Jeb, a thought dawning on you.

“Hey… what happened to that Vance guy? He alright?” You’re almost a little ashamed of forgetting about him.

THUNK! Outer ring.

“Oh, he got up, eventually.” A small frown passes across Jeb’s face. “Blew over a load of bookshelves, too, which was annoying. We only picked this place ‘cause they buffer against the breeze.”

“You should find somewhere underground.” You reply, watching Victor’s wrist and determining that his next shot will be a bull’s eye. “Much warmer.”

THUNK! Yep.

Jeb shakes his head. “No-go. Sofia’s afraid of the dark.”

Sofia. You don’t know that one, do you?

“What about Rahne? She afraid of the indoors?”

THUNK!

He frowns again.

“No, not exactly.” He pauses to commend Victor on a good round, and sighs heavily. “She’s not… comfortable with her appearance. She comes and goes, but she just doesn’t like being seen. Not when she’s all wolfed out, anyhow.”

You assumed as much.

“She transforms?” You ask. “And she can’t control it?”

He nods, watching Victor tug the darts free. “Yeah, not really. She can’t always keep herself in one form. She spends most of her time sort of in-between. It’s not pretty.”

Yeah, doesn’t sound like it would be.

“And I guess she helps you… I dunno, what? What do you guys actually do around here?”

Jeb laughs.

“Well, Hisako…” He can’t help but grin broadly as Victor hands him the darts. “…Hisako wants to be the X-Men, for real. But really, we spend most of our time just settling stupid arguments. Why’d you ask?”

He shoots you a playfully narrowed glance.

“Thinking of joining?”

“Nope. No offence.”

Jeb chuckles a little as he takes aim. “None taken. Honestly, none of us really think we can change the world…” THUNK! He hits the nearby bookshelf. God, no wonder he disqualified you. He’s terrible. “…but I think we do a little good here.”

Well, you don’t dispute that, and safety in numbers of an alluring prospect… but something just doesn’t sit right with you about the whole thing. Probably the name.

Checking your watch, you frown a little at the time, and tell Jeb you’re gonna have to be going, calling for Kev and Lucas. On your way out, Hisako calls after you:

“Hey! Are you heading off to meet Jono’s lot right now?” Hmmm. As you mull it over, she continues: “I could send someone. We’ve got a flier hanging around.”

Flier. You can’t help but notice that Hisako often refers to her companions by their powersets. Reminds you of pieces on a board.

Well. That’s helpful. You wonder if it’s Jeb. He seems like the classic superpowers sorta guy.

“I was… but I think I’ll take you up on that.”

You wave goodbye and head out into the cold. The evening has slipped away into night, and the scar is a long stretch of awkward black shadows. It’s been a while since you went this deep during night-time, so you’re a little surprised at how creepy it gets in places.

By the time you get home, it’s a little past seven, and the charge that sprang in your step this morning is well and truly depleted. You fold down at the bottom of the stairs and allow yourself a moment or two of just doing nothing. You think about the text from Peter, and the Kamar job, and Creeper. It all bleeds to and fro in your head, the edges of your thoughts blurring.

You sigh, as if trying to vent it all somehow, trying to loosen it all into the ether.

Well, you’ve earned a rest. And something to eat, too.

It doesn’t take long to whip up some stew out of the various ingredients procured via your detective money. Layla has to light the stove for you, of course – which she still finds hilarious – and while you eat she chatters incessantly about how cool it is to be six or seven or even eight people at once (much cooler than any of your powers, apparently). You’re just glad she doesn’t have bees for ears or glowing antennas or whatever. Your own disfigurements are hard enough to hide.

You ask her how Noriko’s doing, eying the girl from afar. She seems to be making a concerted effort to avoid looking anyone in the eye, but Layla insists that she’s okay. Hmm.

Sated, you set down your bowl (hah, you have bowls, unreal, truly unreal) and flop straight down onto your back, momentarily considering the options another payday could open up. You should meet up with Remy as soon as possible, shouldn’t you?

Whatever. Tomorrow. You’ve got all tomorrow to waste however you see fit. You’ve got food, and shelter, and people.

You close your eyes and the warmth of the stove gradually lulls you into sleep…
>>
Considering Christmas happened very recently, one would think that Peter would have vacation from school till the end of the year.
>>
>(2/2)

You awaken to the sound of something rustling nearby. You breathe in sharply, tasting the cool, clear air, and determine that it must be early in the day. Cold, but not too cold.

Rubbing your eyes, you pull yourself up. The stove is out, and your various bags of shopping lie at the base of the stairs, where the cool air will keep them useful a little longer. Nobody appears to have thought to drag you into the tent – you guess you must’ve looked pretty tired. Typical that you’re the last one to try it out.

Or not. You blink, shifting sleep from under your eyes. Noriko sits on the edge of the nearby platform, still awake. Laura sleeps nearby, her sleeping bag rising and falling with the rhythm of her breath. You guess neither of them really felt like being around anyone.

The rustling hits your ears again, and Noriko throws an empty candy wrapper down on the tracks.

You check your watch.

>[X] Contact Remy.

Fumbling with your phone, you send Remy a quick text, just to get things rolling. You're not sure exactly what level of clandestine you're supposed to be operating at, so you keep it short and vague.

That out of the way, you make your way over to Noriko, finding yourself hitting a palpable field of static the moment you’re within several feet of her. Oof, it’s like suddenly walking through syrup – electricity has this acrid, cloyingly sweet taste to it that you never fully appreciated before your sense shifted into overdrive. The hair on your head must be practically reaching for the ceiling.

“Hey.”

She glances back at you, dark bags under her eyes. “Hey.”

An awkward few seconds pass.

“Still not feeling 100%?” You probe, trying your best not to bring up Jack specifically.

“No, I’m… I’m fine.” She turns back to the tracks, and seems to tense up for a moment. The electricity flowing in the air disperses a little, though you can still smell the odd packet of ionized particles. You hear her biting down at her bottom lip. “Do you… do you think the X-guys go after Jack dealers? Anna said someone handed her a dose near the scar.”

You can see where this is going, and you don’t think going out and randomly attacking Jack dealers is a good idea right now. So that’s exactly what you say:

“I don’t think going out and randomly attacking Jack deals is such a good idea right now.”

She wheels around on you, her eyes gleaming indignantly. The background voltage spikes, buzzing faintly in the air.

“How could it not be!?” She says, raising her voice. “These people, they’ve made it us or them!”

Well, that’s… just about the truth. You backtrack a little.

“Yeah, most definitely.” You nod in agreement. Noriko deflates just a little, as if she never really expected you to agree with her in the first place. Maybe she just kinda wanted to shout at someone. Whatever. You keep going: “But they’re going to notice if their guys just start disappearing, so we all have to be prepared.”

You put on your best assuring smile.

“Don’t worry. When we have everyone on the same page, then we can…” She probably wants to hear something like ‘bring the fight to them’ or ‘dust these guys’ or something similarly cool, but you can’t say it. The whole idea that you’re going out looking for a fight is alien. “…get started.”

Nice and vague.

She looks at you for a moment, as if sizing you up, and sighs.

“Thanks.” She smiles a little reluctantly, before turning away again. “You know, you’re not at all what I first thought you were like. When I met you, I mean.”

Your phone buzzes in your pocket.

You pause in the middle of retrieving your phone, Noriko's words catching up with you.

"Wait." You narrow your eyes suspiciously. "What did you think I was like?"

She smiles wryly.

"Naive. Easily bullied. Afraid of everything."

But you are all those things.

"Then I started to think of you as being like me. A survivor." That's a little haughty, isn't it? You don't go around calling yourself a survivor. "But that's not really you either..."

You wait a moment for her to continue, but she doesn't, instead noting that whoever's on the line is waiting. Feeling a little sheepish, you pick up, placing the receiver to your ear, and are almost blasted off your feet when your "Hello" is answered by a resounding, explosively cheerful "Bout time, mon ami!"

That would be Remy, then.

"You wid' me, eh? I knew the lady couldn't resist all 'dem superpowers of yours." He laughs heartily. You think you can smell his accent. "You wanna meet, we can meet this afternoon. That all good wid' you?"

Well, if we punch the Hulk with Strength 3 you are probably only making him angry. If you stab the Hulk with Strength 3 and Claws 3 you are probably going to kill him given that Hulk could be killed by Wolverine in a What If and Claws Three are as hard and sharp as his.

Seriously, Adamantium is fucking bullshit with only peak human strength behind it, with Spiderman level superstrength there should be very few things it cant slice through like butter.

“Yeah, uh, that… that sounds fine.” You think. “We can talk over dinner.”

You actually can, too. You have money and stuff.

“Sounds like a plan. Five thirty, ‘dat alright?”

“Yeah, yeah, that sounds…” Good. Super good. You brain is full of cartoon money at the moment so everything sounds good. “…great.”

“Alright, you know a place goes by the name of the Tabbycat?”

Um. Ummmmmmm.

“Yeah… but I kinda…”

“Great, five thirty, ya? Be seein’ you!”

It goes dead, Remy having presumably gone back to his no-doubt frantic life of conning barflies into his bedchambers. You guess this is… acceptable, in some kind of way. If you’re particularly sneaky maybe you can be in or out before Ms. Hardy even knows you’re there. You could find the darkest corner under the darkest nook and hunker down into supreme smallness.

You wonder if Remy would consider it a social faux-pass if you went through the whole meeting invisible.

>[X] Drop by Peter’s place.

Well, at least you’ve got some time to kill. You have an appointment lined up that seems long overdue to you.

Informing Noriko of your destination, you grab your backpack, shrug on a new hoodie, and head out across the scar. It’s an invigorating morning – the cold prickles against your flesh, harsh but not laceratingly so, keeping you fresh and awake. As you approach the borders of the Exclusion Zone and the ruins begin to give way to the lands of the living, you feel about energetic enough to try holding your invisibility as long as possible, vanishing into nothingness as you cross over onto the city streets.

Surprisingly, it’s not that hard. You pass unseen through the rush hour bustle, feeling a little as though you have this buzzing, unsurmountable buffer of energy within you, keeping you warm and spry and able. An hour into the journey and you aren’t even feeling an inkling of a headache.

You must’ve really pushed yourself beyond all known limits back at Creeper’s factory.

Eventually, the urban shadows give way to the low, squat outlines of affordable housing, and you find yourself making you way up the steps to the Parker’s household’s porch. Your ears twitch as you listen in, divining four heartbeats from the low electrical mutter of the modern household. Two downstairs, on opposite ends of the building. One old, one young. Two upstairs.

Listen, I get that your mocking the guy, but JJ isn't a murder hobo. He murdered one guy in self-defense, is kind of traumatized about it, and is uncomfortable as fuck at the thought of killing people, even people he hates like Creeper.

Not arguing that putting someone down isn't necessary, but there is in-character reasons why JJ isn't going around picking off the mercenaries chasing after him besides not being outfitted to do so
>>
Why are you people so obsessed with being lizard taskmaster? agility 3 I could understand, but the rest just seem like min-maxing, and also incredibly inappropriate for this quest. JJ isn't a super soldier hobo , he's just a hobo mutant genetic experiment. Do you want the government to crash down on us when the find out we know kung fu? I think geointuitive vision also a dumb idea, since it made us more obviously mutant, didn't fit with either our powerset and only slightly helped with dodging bullets. People obviously just panicked after after that fight with toad. But I'll refrain from bringing that up from now on.

>[ ] Ring the bell.
>>
>>33729794
He's dead Jim.

Look, JJ has and will probably continue to kill people in the rare circumstance of necessity to protect himself or others and even less frequently during momentary loses of control. It's not the end of the world or the end of the game. No one is seriously advocating we go full murderer in the quest, but we are not adhering to a strict moral code of conduct that might endanger our friends or allow serial killers (of which there are many that prey on our kind) from running amok. Not every choice is going to be clear cut, and that's ok. Now please stop trying to claim our hands are clean of blood like that mattered to begin with.

>[X] Ring the bell.

You breathe in.

Okay. Right. Time to be a man. Of sorts.

Your finger hovers momentarily over the doorbell, before finally you depress the fell mechanism, sending a low, synthetic chirp through the building. One of the heartbeats moves.

A second or two later, the door opens (oh god what’s that smell, is that banana cake? It smells like banana cake…), and you’re face to face with Peter’s aunt. Her eyes fall swiftly over you, a flicker of recognition budding, and eventually she smiles, though you’re quite sure she’s putting it on a bit. She probably only vaguely remembers you.

“It’s… it’s Joshua, isn’t it?”

You nod. And then listen. And then shake your head.

“Uh, it’s John. Johnathan.” You extent a gloved – thank the Lord – hand. “Nice to see you again, Mrs. Parker.”

She chuckles a little and takes your hand. Man maybe all washed and stuff you look like a normal dude. With big red shades and super-duper concealing gloves and… floppy elf ears.

“I suppose you’re here for Peter?”

You nod vigorously.

“Y-yeah, is that okay?”

“Of course it is.” She steps back a little, giving you room to manoeuvre your way in. “He’s upstairs.”

“With his girlfriend.” Chimes in Gwen’s voice, from what must be the living room.

Oh.

Mrs. Parker swats the additional information aside with a curt flick of her wrist.

“Don’t worry, it’s fine. Those two have to come up for air eventually.” She gestures for you to enter, the motion functioning like some kind of tractor beam, dragging you over the threshold by sheer force of personality. A sharp, cunning sort of gleam plays at her eyes. “You can bring up their cake. Lord knows it’ll spend the entire afternoon down here before one of them thinks to come get it.”

Oh. Oh no.

You don’t want to cockblock your friend. That’s something bad people do, isn’t it?

>truly the worst
>[X] Well, you’re not talking back to Mrs. Parker, so…

What time is it? It is time to stand up and say ‘no’. It’s time to rally with your friend and invent some kind of excuse or lame reason why, actually, you can totally come back later, and in fact that would be better, and clearly it was a rash of cold-fever insanity that brought you there in the first place.

But that’s not going to happen, so you accept your evil fate.

Mrs. Parker fetches a platter of banana cake – you mutter a garbled ‘thankyou’ when you realize she’s cut a third slice – and shoos you up the stairs. As you ascend toward the landing, you hear her clear her throat, and turn back.

“By the way, could you relay something for me?”

You nod.

“Let’s see…” She pauses, and turns her gaze upward in thought. “It goes something like this: ‘I know what you two are doing up there, and if it goes any further, there will be consequences.’ Did you get that?”

“Uh…” Oh god. “…Yeah, that’s… I can relay that…”

“Good.” She smiles. “I think you and I are going to get along very well.”
>>
>(2/2)

You make your way onto the landing and – argh shit man you can smell and hear sloppy teenage makeouts dear god this must be the long-awaited downside to supersenses – find yourself standing in front of the only closed door.

You are about to become a monster.

You knock. The heartbeats spike. You hear (and feel) them disentangle, the heavier, most likely Peter-er of the two tumbling down to the floor. Oh man, you can only laugh, right? But somehow you don’t.

“Hey, uh…” You clear your throat nervously. “…it’s me.”

A moment of expectant silence passes. Then:

“…John?”

“Yeah.” Oh my how awkward this is, it’s possibly the most awkward. You couldn’t make it more awkward unless you were to say something like, you dunno, something like: “Your aunt asked me to tell you about consequences.”

Oh. You said it, didn’t you? Out loud.

You think Chat actually laughs. Someone opens a window, and then, a few second later, the door creaks open, revealing a very red Peter and a very struggling not to laugh Chat. Peter's shirt is on backwards.

“Um… come in, I guess…?”

>No. We can walk there.
Technically we can. But, the only reason we need to roll for flight is because JJ doesn't have enough practice. Once we do JJ will be able to fly from one end of the city to the other in no time with no dice roll and while staying invisible. No more getting jumped by [fill in the blank] while on route.

>Crusty said that JJ's flight is comparable to a WW2 plain.
Meaning his top speed is around 300 mile per hour. Max speed will probably cancel out invisibility the same way max strength does. But that leaves us with a comfortable cruising speed of 150 mph to get around town.

Yea, if we went with the late me163, me262 or meteors, it would be even faster than that.

>[X] I am so sorry

“Look, um…” You trundle your way in with the air of a guilty man. “…I am so sorry, but bear in mind that your aunt may be some kind of Jedi.”

Peter cringes. Apparently the embarrassment hurts more than the disappointment.

“Sith, clearly.”

Giggling quietly on the end of the bed (ugh it smells of second base), Chat waves shyly at you.

“Does Aunt May often call you over to discuss consequences with Peter?” If possible, her boyfriend goes a little redder around the cheekbones. “Congrats on the job, by the way. I guess we’re colleagues or something.”

Well, at least they’re not angry or anything. After the initial wave of embarrassment, you have time to soak in Peter’s room. It’s nice. Small but cosy, in an aggressively nerdy sort of fashion. Random engineering tools litter the tables and parts of the floor, and where most kids his age would hang a picture of Kat Dennings with her tits out, Peter has elected to put up a poster of Isaac Newton. Cool.

“Thanks.” Yeah. You guess you are colleagues. That kinda just dawned on you. “I, uh, I actually just came to talk to Peter about some stuff, and…” And things got weird.

Peter perks up.

“Oh, yeah, right…” He springs to his computer, waving away the screensaver and going through a labyrinth of impeccably marked folders. “Actually, some of this stuff is really interesting…”

Chat guffaws. “You’ve just flipped his switch in ways I never could.”

Know what's even better then looking like someone for infiltration? Not being seen at all.

If only we had some kind of power that made it so other people couldn't see us.
>>
>>33732048
Kimura and that guy with carbondium "skin", assuming he isn't dead of cancer or whatever in the Crustyverse.
>>
>>33732066
Bank takes it by two votes, sadly...
>>
>>33732011
Didn't notice Crusty's post before typing this. Pretend the vote isn't there.

Good to know. Adamantium2stronk
>>
No, fuck you with your vampire shape shifting power
>>
Wow, that was close.

POINT BANKED.

Next thread should be Thursday or Friday.
>>
>>33732134
What?
>>
>>33732139
Thanks for running Crusty.
>>
>>33732082
Kind of hard to talk to people while invisible. Well you can but they'll probably freak out.

Mimicry allows us to look human. Which means we can walk around and talk to people without them calling mutant control.
>>
>>33732154
The power that allows you to copy people's features, so long as you swallow some of their bodily fluid or flesh. Seems pretty clear cut
>>
>>33732139
You sticking around or calling it a night?

>>33732139
Thanks Crustles

Thanks Crusty

>>33732082
I'd rather take 1 more level in adhesive touch, then go into the meeting place and stay on the ceiling invisible for the whole thing's duration.
We could do that with adh.lvl2 right, Crusty? stick to the ceiling for hours while invisible with little to no effort?
>>
>>33732139
thanks for running.

have fun commuting from England to the Moon.

Sounds bad ass.

There's one more tier. Sort of. And levels will always be 5, but what those levels mean can change.

I'd have to run some numbers to come to a concrete decision on that.

Yes.

Cool.

Well, giving him a codename would be counterproductive to billing him as an unmasked, just a guy hero.

When he gets drunk the choice will be yours.

Nice actor, but probably a bit severe.

Nah.

>There's one more tier. Sort of. And levels will always be 5, but what those levels mean can change.

When will the powers shift?
>>
>>33732239
Technically JJ can do that now. Level 2 would allow us to do it without a roll.
>>
>>33732289
>Sounds retarded.

And people said they didn't want to go druid, but I guess you people want to have your wild shape...
>>
>>33732312
if we boosted our senses with Photo 4 how good would they get?
>>
>>33732336
>when will the powers shift?

When it's appropriate that the powers shift.
>>
>>33732386
JJ starts seeing through clothing.
>>
>>33732385
The only options are
>Sapeshifting
>Dr Doolittle
>Electric smoke bomb

My decision to go shapeshifter has nothing to do with druid build.
>>
>>33732386
hopefully better precognition.
>>
>>33732460
Do we really need to see through cloths? Laura would probably take hers off if JJ asked.

She's been dtf since we hit relationship level 3.
>>
>>33732489
That doesn't you further their agenda by pushing your shit power
>>
>>33732533
Is that English?
>>
>>33732532
>She's been dtf since we hit relationship level 3.

Level 4, actually
>>
>>33732460
>Gambit turns him gay
>>
>>33732561
Level 3 actually.

After Laura's relationship leveled up, people asked if she was dtf. Crusty said that she had been for a while but JJ needed to be the one to make the move. Which he never did. Victoria was at 3 when her and JJ was dating.
>>
>>33732533
>>33732557
Sort of. Meant to say:

*That doesn't mean you don't further their agenda by pushing your shit power

Forgive my sloppiness, anon
>>
>>33732532
Yeah sure, but being able to see through clothes would work with anyone within his line of sight. They'd end up doing pretty provocative movements without even knowing. Every single physical thing people do clothed would have whole new meanings to JJ.
Fug, I think I might be getting aroused.
>>
>>33732312
So did we just interrupt awkward teenage first time love?

Because only those types are the ones stupid enough to do the dirty deed when someone else is in the house
>>
>>33732859
Probably. Chat's a pretty cool chick, and she's a really nice person. I'm glad Crusty made her canon
>>
Next thread we should talk about how vaginal intercourse is the best thing ever.
>>
>>33732340
So level 2 will actually let us do it.
>>
>>33732991
>JJ not critfailing his seduce roll and tripping causing Laura's foot blade to react and slice his dick off

more correct
>>
>>33733269
Creeper will find it and use it as a masturbation toy as he clutches a worn photo of JJ close to his chest
>>
>>33733269

schlack it into a dildo

If she makes it into a hair braid like the one she already has wouldn't JJ need a matching one?

I just re-read this before posting. What has /tg/ turn me into?

this is just your true self boiled down to the bare essentials anon.
>>
>>33733373
Then she can collect all the penises off of our fallen enemies and make a trophy necklace

Cuda's would weigh it down a lot though
>>
>>33733491
Even better. it's surprisingly small. Only a two-footer.
>>

>Watch ANIMORPHS on TV
Man they had to whore out that awful tv show on the covers of decent books didn't they.
