Previously, on Avatar Quest......

Left in charge of the new settlement along with your mother and Sena while your father travelled to the capital, things began with a rather peaceful night, during which you learned Waterbending. Things went South the next day, however, when you and the others were attacked by a group of bandits. Despite fighting fiercely, you and the others were soon captured. You learned that the bandits planned to take you to their leader, Ming. Felna managed to break free and kill several bandits before the others fell into a retreat. Knowing they'd return in greater numbers, you all set to creating a sand fortress on the beach. Felna taught you a new Firebending skill in preparation, and the bandits soon arrived. At first, it appeared that they would be unable to reach you, until a pair of Airbenders showed up. After a brief but intense fight, the two Airbenders died, and you confronted Ming. He challenged you to a duel, and the two of you battled. Slowly but surely, you managed to defeat Ming, who eventually died from both exhaustion, and the wounds you inflicted on him. In the following weeks, everyone trained, but stayed close to the fortress. Your father soon returned with more settlers, and two of the Queen's elite guards. You were told that you were to go to the capital, and went to saying your goodbyes. You bid farewell to both the Shark Turtle and Ren.

>Welcome to Avatar Quest. Here are the rules.

Decisions are made by vote. Each vote has a ten minute interval, after which, the option that receives the most votes it the one that is chosen.

There are no write-ins unless explicitly stated

Some options require rolls. In that event, rolls will be out of 100. Whether rolls succeed or fail is decided by the first three rolls. If one passes, then you succeed regardless of the other two. Rolls will really only occur during training, or when trying something new.
All decisions are final. If you regret voting for something, too bad. Think carefully before you make decisions.

Try to keep waifu bullshit to a minimum.

"Anything you'd like me to say to the Queen?" you ask Ren.

A look of pure rage and hatred appears on his face for a moment before he takes a deep breath.

"No, I...no thank you," he says.

"Does she have any allergies?" you ask.

"Not that I know of..." he answers, confused.

"Anything else I should know?" you ask.

"Not that I can think of. Just be careful," he says.

"I will," you promise. "You stay safe too, okay?"

He nods. "Of course."

"Goodbye," you tell him.

He smiles. "Farewell."

Behind you, your mother clears her throat.

"I hope you were planning on giving me a goodbye," she says to you.

You walk over to your mother and hug her tight. You soon feel her arms wrap around you, holding you in a warm embrace.

"I love you, mom," you tell her.

"I love you too, Shin," she replies. "So, so much."

She pulls back and holds you by the shoulders. Looking into her eyes, you see that they are full of concern, but also love and pride.

"Be safe," she pleads, the two words sounding more like a prayer to the spirits than a statement directed towards you.

Just looking at Aang's actions, he has to have killed hundreds if not thousands. So many people thrown off cliffs or into freezing arctic waters. And that fight at the Earth King's palace might not have killed the people he was fighting, but it definitely crippled them (though to be fair, that was mostly Toph's doing. Girl is hardcore). Hell, even in the final episode where he was all agonizing over the idea of killing Ozai, he still lit an airship on fire and crashed it into the rocks. For a pacifist, he is remarkably callous.

He laughs. "Galda, kill me? Please, the girl is crazy about m-" he is cut off with a yelp as a dagger is suddenly stuck in the ground at his feet.

"Okay, fine, I get it!" he yells in Galda's direction. "You know, if this is the kind of thing I can look forward to while you're gone, I just might miss being launched into the lake."

"One would have to question your sanity if it was," Lee comments, walking over to the two of you. "By the way, your brother is coming.....quickly."

Bulo looks towards the lake and his eyes go wide. He turns and runs towards the woods, Sonyo running swiftly after him.

With that, he walks towards your brothers, who are now at the edge of the woods, hurling sand at one another.

"I didn't even throw you in the lake!" Bulo yells as he ducks under a glob of sand.

"Shut up and take your sand like a man!" Sonyo retorts, continuing to attack.

Bulo stomps on the ground and thrusts his fists downward, dropping Sonyo into a pit. He takes a deep breath, then runs back towards you. He doesn't stop, however, and keeps running until he nears the lake, then launches himself into it and swims deeper.

"Protect me, Shark Turtle!" he cries as he continues to swim.

Sonyo, meanwhile, lifts himself from the pit and gives chase. "There is no force on this world that can save you now!"

Without saying anything else, she makes her way over to the fortress.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say she was feeling concern for you," Lee says. "Speaking of concerning....."

He points to the lake again, where Bulo is riding on the head of the Shark Turtle, which is swimming after Sonyo.

"Cower puny mortals!" Bulo yells. "You are ants, and I am your destroyer!"

Sonyo makes it to shore and runs for the trees as fast as he can. Bulo stands up on the Shark-Turtle's head.

"Alright, launch me!" he commands.

The Shark Turtle lowers its head, then flings Bulo into the air.

"This was a bad idea!" Bulo yells as he flies through the air, crashing into the trees. "I'm okay."

"About yourself?" you ask.

She nods. "When I was little and first found out what I was, my parents were terrified. They thought that if the Queen found out, she would take me away from them. See, she never had any kids, so they were afraid that she'd take me and groom me to succeed her in order to keep a bender of her bloodline on the throne. Now, with all of this...."

Her hands shake as she trembles, looking more frightened than you have ever seen her. "If your dad told them you were the Avatar, the Queen is going to have people keeping an eye on all of us. I'll slip up, and they'll find out what I am. They'll take me away from my family. I don't want to help the Queen, but if I don't, what will she do to my family and friends? And what if your dad told the Queen what Galda did? Galda can't go through what happened last time the Queen caught her again..."

The trembling gets worse.

For what purpose? She won't be able to help us on her own. Definitely not with force and not with political pressure.
If our father and mother pulled on one string in that matter, I can imagine them putting maybe enough political pressure on them(powerful bender family and shit).
But again: Dad.
Second: When it's about the avatar, the queen might not even give a shit about 'political pressure'.

Leaving the fortress, you seek out your father, who seems to be speaking with Kana and Narlonok. As you approach, the two take a step back away from your father.

"Are you ready to depart?" Kana asks.

"I want to talk to my dad," you tell her.

She nods and turns, walking away to give the two of you some privacy. Narlonok follows, leaving you and your father alone.

"What's their story, anyway?" you ask.

"Well, they're two of the Queen's elite guards," your father reminds you. "They're benders who have spent years training to serve the Queen and become some of the best in the world at their element. Kana and Narlonok are Waterbenders, I believe."

"So, what did you tell the Queen?" you ask. "I mean, we're a family of great benders, nothing I did is really that impressive."

Irritation flashes on his face for a fraction of a second. "Not that impressive? You've done things at your age that most Earthbenders never manage in their entire lives. As for what I told her, I just gave a report of what everyone has been doing since we left. I left out the part about you being the Avatar, of course, but otherwise I gave a complete recount of all that's happened."

"Can those two be trusted not to out me?" you ask.

"I wish I could say for certain," your dad replies. "I ordered them not to say anything, and the Queen instructed them to follow my orders, but their loyalty is to her above all else. Be careful when it comes to them."

"It shouldn't take too long to reach the capital," Kana tells you. "And, with the three of us, the trip shouldn't be dangerous."

"Our combined skills are more than sufficient to deal with any threats we may encounter," Narlonok agrees.

The pair proceed to lead you into the woods, and you begin the trek to the capital. The two remain almost completely silent for quite a while after you depart. Getting a better look at them, you see that they both look to be about Bulo's age, maybe slightly older.

It takes nearly a week for the awkward trip East to come to an end. Luckily, during that time, neither your guards nor any wild animals attempt to kill you. The only real threat you face is boredom and loneliness. Your escorts are hardly the chatty sort, and you find yourself missing your family and friends more and more. Your thoughts are almost constantly focused on them, wondering what they're doing, and wondering if they're okay. You know they can take care of themselves, but some part of you worries that something terrible will happen without you around to protect them.

Nah, you're probably being paranoid.

When you reach Biànhù, the familiar sights and sounds feel like a distant memory rushing to the surface.

A pair of guards standing at the gates step aside as you and your escorts approach, and you step into the residential district. Single-story buildings stretch on as far as you can see, home to the majority of the over two-thousand citizens of the great city. Children run and play in the streets, under the watchful eyes of their parents, and the city guard. While you take a moment to observe the place you called home for so long, Kana and Narlonok seem rather disinterested, and simply keep walking.

Maybe this is your chance to get away from them.

You decide that trying to run would only make things worse, and follow the two, praying that you won't regret this decision.

The three of you soon make it out of the residential district, and find yourselves in the market district. Merchants of all kinds sell their wares to eager customers. You consider stopping to see what's for sale, but then remember that you don't have any money with you. So, with no reason to stick around, you follow Kana and Narlonok as they make their way towards the palace; a massive, three-story building that towers above all others in the city.

The guards at the gate, immediately recognizing the pair escorting you, step aside and let the three of you pass. You spot another pair of guards at the palace entrance, but, like the last two, they simply let you pass.

Stepping inside, you take a look around. The walls are adorned with weapons, armor, and beautiful paintings. One in particular catches your eye; a painting of a dark-haired man surrounded by Earth, Wind, Water, and Fire.

He looks eerily similar to the one in your dreams.

You don't have much time to think on the connection, as Kana directs you to the stairs leading up to the second floor. You follow Narlonok up the stairs, reaching the next floor. You have no time to observe the floor before you are lead up another set of stairs to the top floor.

The walls are bare, and there is nowhere to go save a long narrow hallway leading to a single, large set of doors. Predictably, that set of doors is where your escorts lead you, pushing them open and taking you inside.

You find yourself in a large room illuminated by torches. At the other end, atop a small staircase sits a golden throne, and on that throne sits the Queen.

You've been told that she's about your mother's age, though she still looks quite young and beautiful. Long, flowing black hair cascades down her back, and her deep green eyes stare at you with gr-

"A fair question," she replies. "Though, I thought someone would have told you by now."

She turns away and gestures to a table on the right side of the room. You follow her over to it, and the two of you sit down.

"As you know, your father was here recently to report on the progress of your settlement," she begins. "I am pleased that things are going so well, of course, but what really caught my attention in his reports was the many impressive things you accomplished. He says that you fought Crocodile Wolves, saved two girls from a Shark Bear, discovered how to use highly advanced Earthbending techniques, tamed a Shark Turtle, and even located the spot upon which the new settlement will be built. She nods. "Your father did mention that your entire family fought the Crocodile Wolves in your first encounter, and that a girl named Felna helped you locate the spot for the settlement. But, even so, you have done much more than what can be expected of you. But beyond that, your bending skills have me intrigued. The reason I wished to speak with you personally, is that, while I respect your father, I'm not entirely sure I can trust him not to embellish in his reports. Your father wishes to make himself look good, and to draw attention to what he has accomplished, so I worry that he has exaggerated in his reports. A brief talk with Kana and Narlonok will give me all the answers I need as to the status of the settlement, but as for your father's assertions of you abilities, that's a little tougher."

"Of course," you tell her.

"Wonderful!" she replies happily.

"What exactly did you have in mind?" you ask.

"A suitable demonstration," she tells you. "Come with me, I'll explain on the way."

The two of you exit the throneroom and walk down the hall together. You don't see any guards anywhere, but the Queen seems to be completely relaxed. Either her guards are very well hidden, or she is confident that her abilities can protect her from any threats. As the two of you start down the stairs, she speaks up.

"Behind my palace, I have a little arena," she explains. "It's mostly used for my guards to train by sparring one another. I am going to request that one of my guards, an Earthbender, faces you in the arena. Don't worry, I will be perfectly clear that excessive force on his part will not be tolerated. It is my hope that through this, I will be able to witness your abilities first hand, and you will be able to test yourself against a worthy opponent."

As the two of you step onto the first floor, she glances at you. "Of course, if you feel uncomfortable with this, you need only say so, and I will find a different way for you to demonstrate your skills."

"I will face your challenge," you tell her.

She nods. "Very well, then. I look forward to seeing what you are capable of, Shin."

She leads you outside and behind the palace, where you see a shallow but large pit. It's edges are covered in water, but the center is dry Earth; a battlefield where any type of bender can fight at their best.

"Go wait in the arena, and I will fetch your opponent," the Queen instructs. "And, best of luck."

You do as she says and enter the ring, wading through the water to reach the central area. Looking around, you see several people stop training and gather around the ring, eying you curiously. After a few minutes of waiting and enduring the stares, you finally see your opponent arrive.

He is a tall, extremely muscular man with a bald head and no shirt. As he marches into the arena, his eyes remain trained on you the entire time. He stops once he reaches the Earth portion of the ring, staring you down.

"You may begin!" the Queen calls.

The pit is one of our best moves. But remember to press the attack afterwards. Don't just expect him to get stuck there, use the lapse in his concentration it'll cause to attack him further.

>E. Quickly rise a pillar beneath him

>C. Open a pit beneath him

You make the first move, stomping on the ground in front of you and thrusting your fists downward.

Your foe's face takes on an expression of surprise as he falls into the pit. You have the feeling that this won't keep him down for long, however, and prepare an attack for when he emerges.

Seconds later, your foe is launched from the pit, and lands on the ground in front of it. You immediately hurl a rock at him, but he sidesteps and answers in kind. Ducking under his strike, you attack once again, only for him to evade it and create a pit beneath you.

Turnabout is fair play, you suppose.

You fall into the pit and quickly get back to your feet, planning your next move.

>A. Launch yourself from the pit and hurl fire at him

>B. Launch yourself from the pit and throw rocks at him

>C. Launch yourself from the pit and create a pit beneath him

As you stand in the pit, you decide that you're done fooling around.

You launch yourself from the pit with a fast-rising Earth pillar, landing a few feet in front of it. Your foe gets into a defensive stance, likely expecting more rocks to be thrown his way or a pit to open beneath him. You take a brief moment to examine his current spot. With water behind him and close to his sides, it seems that he'll most likely move forward in an effort to avoid an attack.

You stomp forward, and your foe begins to move forward. You use this to your advantage and thrust your hands upward, rising a pillar beneath his feet at a diagonal angle. Not expecting this type of attack, your opponent is caught completely off guard and launched high into the air. He goes soaring above your head and out of the ring, where another Earthbender raises another pillar to catch him and lower him to the ground.

He gets up and turns towards you, glaring at you before giving you a nod, acknowledging you as a worthy opponent.

The sound of clapping gets your attention, and you turn to see the Queen at the edge of the pit, looking down at you.

"Wonderful," she compliments, smiling at you. "I can see that your father wasn't exaggerating your abilities."

She turns her attention to the gathered crowd. "This is Shin, the son of Greto and Talga. Keep an eye on this one, because I believe he will go on to do great things. Now, all of you, return to what you are doing while I speak with him. And Gulon, let this battle be a lesson in what happens when you underestimate your opponents and don't pay attention to your surroundings."

Your opponent nods, then bows before he and the others return to what they were doing.

The Queen looks at you once again. "Can I offer you something to eat or drink? I imagine you must be at least a little hungry and thirsty after your journey and that battle you just fought."

"Some water would be nice," you tell her.

She nods and turns to a nearby servant. "Please get some water and bring it to the throne room."

"Of course, your majesty," the servant says, bowing and scurrying off to do as the Queen asked.

The Queen turns back to you. "Shall we return to the throne room, then?"

The two of you walk back around the palace, inside, and up to the third floor, making your way to the throne room. The Queen immediately strolls over to the table and takes a seat. You do the same, and moments later, the servant returns with water for the two of you. He bows before departing.

The Queen chuckles as she takes a sip. "I have to admit, the look on Gulon's face when you defeated him was pretty funny. And, I must admit, your level of ability surprised me. To be perfectly honest, I had my doubts when your father told me what you were capable of."

She takes another sip of her water. "For right now, that's not important. But, you know, I am curious. A lot of the accomplishments your father spoke of, he wasn't there for. But, you yourself said that they did happen, although you did have some help. I'm very interested in hearing your accounts of those events and how they happened."

Setting down her drink, she grins. "I imagine you and I have quite a bit to discuss."

In terms of credibility, I'd side with the 7 year old who got tortured. It's improbable that the Queen didn't at least know what happened.

The Queen probably has more character depth than that, but it means that I'll be naturally suspicious of her offers.
>>

Fair enough. I'd be concerned if you weren't suspicious of her.

>>33710852
And even if she somehow doesn't have anything to do with what happened to Galda, that doesn't mean she's not trying to manipulate us. She'd be an idiot to not at least try. We're the Avatar, there isn't a single person on the planet who doesn't have some sort of ulterior motive when it comes to us.
