A Tale of Witches Quest Quest

I am Frank Cromartie, and it's been 6 hours now since my QM Hexer has updated his quest and slowly, I feel the madness seeping into me.
At first, it was just little giggles I assumed were from the girl next door, but then HER shape started skulking about at the corner of my gaze, by the fourth hour I could hear "Onii-chaaaaan" echoing off my walls, and by the fifth Heximouto was grabbing at my arms.
Maybe I've been drinking too much waiting, maybe I need more in my life than a quest about little girls and a dead-end job as a super-model mecha pilot. But it's the sixth hour and Heximouto has nestled herself in my lap and started posting in /qtg/.

I've ignored her so far, but maybe... maybe if I please her she'll update A Tale of Witches.

But maybe if I please her, I'll break down for good.

Evangelyne is sprinting towards me, her Timeshadow -because that's what I'm naming it- always a few paces ahead of her.

I can feel my eyes narrowing and my body going taut as the words of my instructors become my thoughts and soul.

Here it comes. A short, brutal swing. Straight for the shoulder. The shape reverses its path, as if blocking a swing and I step aside just far enough to throw her off-balance, the future changed by my reaction. Her shadow turns to launch into a low swing an-- no, I saw that too late.

No matter, I block the attack and redirect it away, the small opening created enough for me to land a crushing blow to her middle followed by a series of cracking hits to her wrist, forearm and elbow that send her stumbling.

Dashing forward I intercept her trajectory and sweep my stave low t-- I catch her, the both of us tumbling across the cold floor before coming to rest at Sora's feet. The world is back to its normal shape. I'm shiverring. I'm empty. I feel drained, yet somewhat triumphant. Evangelyne! I hurt her! I look to where the older girl is lying beside me. Wow, d-did I do all this?!

"--not bad!" What. It takes a while to understand what is going on. She's smiling at me. And… saying something. I sit up and she does the same though with much more difficulty.

"Are you listening?" I was. I just wasn't hearing.

"That was great!" What. No it wasn't, I hurt you.

"Now, don't look at me like that". She scoots closer and brushes a strand of hair away from my forehead, holding me by the shoulder as I start to flinch away.

"Last time someone's given me this sound a spanking it was my mom, you know that?" Huh. The thought of Eva getting spanked makes me gape, and she chortles at my expression.

"You military or somethin'?" Oh right, she doesn't know.

"My… father is a guard".

Apparently, "getting healed up" takes longer than we thought. The teacher seemed not too surprised as we hobbled towards her, only asking one of the older girls to fetch some ink and crystal.

"Okay, your lessons are on hold for now, but I insist you promise me the following: Do NOT try what I'm about to do".

"Yes, mistress". I nod.

"Eh? Thought we were 'ere to learn things".

The teacher glares at Evangelyne, and she swallows audibly.

"I mean… mistress… yes, mistress". So even she gets scared sometimes.

"Hold still". We do, and she applies several signs on our hands, feet and temples.

As she loosens Evangelyne's belts to draw on her belly the girl shrieks and trashes, half-laughing half-pleading for her to stop, but that seems to help her little, teacher drawing on while holding her patient down with the other hand, patiently.

It's interesting how much you can learn when you're near people. Not that I would ever dare and try to tickle her. Probably.

Thankfully she's finished soon after repeating the same with me, drawing a circle on the floor around us both.

Finally, she arranges the crystals - nine if I got it right - outside of the black ring and falls to her knees, extending her hands above us.

"Mists below, clouds above, from eternity called the light of grace, bestow upon me the gifts you promised and…" The rest of the spell is drowned out as my body begins to tingle and hum. It's the funniest feeling, like standing under the summer sun and diving into a frozen-over pond your pa hacked a hole in at once.

I feel my exhaustion drain away and my flesh knitting together, the pain seeping out of me like rain drains into the earth after a drought. My breath comes in short, ragged gasps and I wonder just how long I can stand this, when it already begins to subside and stop.

"--forge a bond between you and them and let thy mercies never be forgotten from eternity to eternity".

All three of us seem to exhale at the same time, teacher slumping tiredly.

"It's okay. You can get up now". Goddess but does she sound tired. I try to apologize, but she just waves me off.

"Comes with the territory. A stiff drink and a bit of rest and it'll be just dandy". Well, I can't exactly disagree with teacher, not after what she just did, so instead I just help Evangelyne to her feet and bow. As we turn to leave, Teacher gives both of us a red slip of paper with a golden Dawnchant rune on it.

Hmm "Pardon"? "Forgivness? "Absolution"? Something like that, the way it's written is terribly old-fashioned and I know I'm not the best student. If only Eriadne were here.
